RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

It was early afternoon in the McCarran Airport. The daily rush was at hand. Whether they were departing or arriving, thousands were gracing Las Vegas' notorious travel HUB. The only thing out of place was the fact military personal were standing guard at almost every corner of the airport. Russel was coming home from a visit to Chicago, a buddy of his was just hitched. It seemed like the place he once knew, was slowly crafting into a nightmare. It all just felt unnatural, eerie in a way. Ever since Obama left office things were never the same.

After exiting the terminal, Russel made his way to the dreaded wait he'd have to make. The people were calm despite the thugs with guns walking about, at least that comforted him. One small hiccup though and the place would be in panic. Russ arrived at the claim with his fellow passengers. The plane was small, not many were on board with him. It was more a business flight, consisting of thirty something business men making a quick trip in the heat of July. Out of the corner of his eye he happened to catch a glimpse of a small Asian man, roughly about the same age as him. He hadn't noticed him on the flight. Turning his attention back to the rotating tred in front of him, Russ soon ignored the man.

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

Two weeks before Russel Ballard arrives at McCarran Airport, Las Vegas

Location: People's Liberation Army Training Camp, China

It was 5:30 am when Li woke up; he was exhausted from not getting much sleep the night before. Today was evaluation day in the People's Liberation Army; the officers would be examining the soldiers to see if they could qualify for promotion and if they failed, they might possibly be discharged or be told to repeat the evaluation at a later date. Li began to worry that he wouldn't be able to pass the evaluations; today would be his fifth attempt. Li slowly made his way to the training course, fearing that he would not pass and be discharged from the PLA after so many failed attempts.
When Li arrived at the training course, the drill sergeants were already barking orders at the soldiers. "I WANT YOU TO CLIMB THAT WALL, DO FIFTY JUMPING JACKS, AND 50 PUSH UPS! AND THAT'S JUST THE WARM UP BOYS!" Li had also noticed that someone dressed in non-typical military attire; it was evident that he had some high-ranking power and influence within the Communist Party. Li began to wonder why someone like him would be at the training course. Just then, one of the drill sergeants noticed Li arriving late to the training course, "LI WHY ARE YOU LATE?!" Li was too terrified to give the drill sergeant an answer. "WELL, WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE?!" barked the drill sergeant. Li opened his mouth to say something, but no words came out. "WELL, QUIT STANDING THERE, AND START THE COURSE, LI!" Li started running, he felt nervous that he wouldn't pass. Li barely passed the warm up exercise; the next part of the training course was marksmanship. In the PLA, soldiers are supposed to hit 85% of targets in order to get a passing grade for marksmanship. Li on the other hand, only wound up hitting 70% of the targets. Just then, the same drill sergeant who yelled at Li for being late, saw Li's test results, "LI YOU'RE OUT OF HERE, GO BACK TO BARRACKS AND PACK YOUR BAGS, WE'VE GIVEN YOU TOO MANY OPPORTUNITIES AND YOU JUST FUCKED THEM ALL UP! YOU'RE GOING HOME!"

Li started walking back slowly to the barracks, when the man dressed non-typical military attire approached Li. "I've seen your results and how you perform," said the mysterious man. Li looking very puzzled opened his mouth and said, "Who are you and why are you here?" The man replied, "Well, you can call me, Mister Red. I'm here to observe recruits and if I see anybody that stands out, then I might recruit them." Li looked even more confused, but Mister Red just continued on, "I work for a special division of the Communist Party, let's just say the work we do is unorthodox. What I am proposing is a job offer for you Mr. Li, will you accept it?" Now, Li was even more confused at what was going on. Li replied, "What does this job entail?" Mister Red replied "I can only tell you that you will no longer be serving as a grunt soldier in the PLA if you do accept this job offer then more details will come later, but for now that is all I can tell you. So will you accept this job offer, Mr. Li?" Li thought about it for a moment, *I might as well take it, since I am pretty much discharged from the PLA anyways.* "I accept your job offer Mister Red," said Li. "Excellent, now if you just follow me, I shall begin to debrief on your mission, but remember this there is no turning back from here on out." "I have one more question, why me?" asked Li. "Let's just say you would blend in compared to the other soldiers here at the training camp Mr. Li."

Li sort understood his mission, Mister Red wasn't too clear on the debriefing, but all Li knew was that he would be leaving for United States, more specifically Las Vegas. Li was also told that once he had arrived in Las Vegas, more details about the mission would come. Mister Red suggested that Li take a longer route to Las Vegas than flying directly, so that Li would arouse suspicion from the U.S. government, who were already on high alert. Li carefully planned his route and decided to fly to Chicago from China, and then from Chicago to Las Vegas.

Present Day

Li boarded a plane-leaving non-stop from Chicago to Las Vegas. It would be a long three and half hour flight to Las Vegas from Chicago. Aboard the plane, Li noticed nothing suspicious, he guessed it was typical for Americans to be dressed so business like when flying to a city like Las Vegas. However, when Li arrived at McCarran Airport, Las Vegas, that when his suspicions began to arouse, military personnel were all over the McCarran Airport. Li felt as if he would be spotted easily because he was one of the few Asians in the airport at the time. Li began to wonder what he just got himself into…

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

The bags were taking longer than usual. Russ was getting impatient. He had to be somewhere soon. He kept glancing back at the Asian who was behind him. Short, skinny, malnourished almost. Russel wasn't the one to be racist, but he felt like the guy didn't belong. Finally the lights spiraled on and the carrier was moving. It took sometime before his bag came out, but finally it did and Russ grabbed it. He made is way to the pick-up terminal and waited for a cab. The young Asian man made his way outside as well. For some reason, Russ had a weird feeling about the guy, he wanted to get away fast, yet he wanted to learn more. A cab pulled up to Ballard, the driver preceded to get out of the cab. Russ glanced toward the Asian than back at the cab. He hesitated for a minute, then turned and waved him down.

"Hey buddy! Do you need a ride?"

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

Li stepped out of the baggage claim and headed towards the pick-up terminal. Once outside, Li started sweating profusely. The heat of mid-July and the fact that global-warming was taking a toll on the Earth, just made the Las Vegas desert, feel like hell on Earth to Li. Li looked around; there were plenty of armed military personnel outside of airport as well as inside. Li figured he better head to his hotel quickly before he would draw too much attention to himself. All of sudden, Li heard call him from behind.

"Hey buddy! Do you need a ride?"

Li turned around; he saw a well built toned American.

"Hey buddy! Do you need a ride?" the American called again.

Li thought about it for a second, and quickly said "yes." Li felt if he traveled with the American, he would draw less attention to himself and be able to blend more. Li walked towards the American, who was standing near a cab.

"Hey buddy! What's your name?" asked the American.

"My name is Li Xiao An, but most people call me Li. What's your name?" replied Li.

"I'm Russel Ballard, nice to meet you Li."

Both of them climbed into the cab. The cab driver turned around, "Where are you guys headed off to?"

His name was Li Xiao An. Definitely not from the United States. Russ smiled and shook his hand, "I'm Russel Ballard, nice to meet you Li." The two proceeded to head into the cab. The cab driver turned around, "Where are you guys headed off to?" Russel turned to Li, then back to the driver, "I need to be driven to the Wynn. What about you Li, I'll pay for the cab." Russel waited for his new acquaintance to answer.

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

"Mandarin Oriental," said Li. The cab started heading towards the Mandarin Oriental. In the cab, Li asked Russel about his childhood. Russel told Li that he was born in Chicago, but his father decided to move them to Las Vegas due to a promotion.

"Tell me about your childhood Li," asked Russel.

"I was born in China, my parents work very hard to send me to school. They could not send to college because they do not make enough money to support sending to college, so I join the army. I serve in the army for 10 years, before I get new job offer. New boss say I work hard, so he let me go visit America."

Russel's detective instinct came into play when heard Li's story, it seemed suspicious to him that Li's boss would offer him a vacation, so soon after hiring him and to send him to the United States as well. However, before Russel could ask Li more about his past, the cab had already arrived at the Mandarin Oriental. Li and got out the cab and bowed to Russel.

"Hey Li, we should meet up either later today or tomorrow, since you're new and all, let me show you Las Vegas."

"Yes, that sound like fun" Li replied quickly, not wanting to raise Russel's suspicion if he decided to say no. The cab drove off heading towards the Wynn. Li walked inside the Mandarin Oriental and headed towards the front desk. After checking into the hotel, Li proceeded to his room on the 22nd floor. Li felt that Mr. Red must of have had plenty of connections to get Li such a nice room.
Li entered his room; the room had a gorgeous view of the Las Vegas strip. Li turned on his laptop and checked his email. He found an email from Mr. Red:

Li,
By now you should have arrived in Las Vegas, I hope that you find your room accommodating to your needs. It should provide you with a nice view of the Las Vegas Strip. I will send you further details on mission later, but for now, I want you to get adjusted to this new scenery. Go out, explore, and have fun. Expect another email from later on in the week.

-Mr. Red

Li took more look outside the window at the Las Vegas strip it was a beautiful sight.

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

Li asked Russ about his childhood. It was weird having a stranger ask him this question, but he didn't hesitate to answer. He told him everything, from his interests as a kid to the time his family moved to Nevada. Russ dived into enough information for now, he preceded to ask Li about his childhood. It was a very interesting story. Russel was right, he knew Li wasn't from America. It was fascinating because Russel had never met a Chinese born citizen before. For being Chinese, Li knew decent English.

The cab stopped at the 'Mandarin Oriental', a pretty classy hotel on the strip. Li must have some money. Li got out and bowed down to Russel, a very odd gesture to the Nevada native. Before the door was closed again, Russ shouted to Li. "Hey Li, we should meet up either later today or tomorrow, since you're new and all, let me show you Las Vegas." Li seemed to appreciate the comment. He responded yes and walked away. As the cab drove off towards the Wynn, Russel realized he had forgotten to give Li his cell number. He really did want to show the guy around, he had nothing to do tonight after his meeting.

He decided he'd head back to the 'Mandarin Oriental' later in the evening, that way, he could try and catch the guy. Now, Russel was headed to more important matters. He was to meet with senior officers of the LVPD. They were to discuss the recent increase in military personal and what the state law would do to handle it. He knew the obvious answer, stay the fuck out of government business. But Nevada wanted answers, and the LVPD were the most prestigious.

The cab arrived at the cab stop outside the Wynn. He thanked the driver and tipped him a large sum of money. His work was hard, dirty, and down right dangerous, but it paid. It seemed like everyone was up and about today, it kept Russel on his toes. The doorman greeted Russel and soon enough, Ballard stepped into the elaborate Wynn Resort and Casino.

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

Li looked back at Mr. Red's email, "Go out, explore, and have fun." No one ever told Li those words before "Go out, explore, and have fun." Li opened up the desk in his hotel room; he pulled out the Mandarin Oriental hotel guide. He flipped through the pages; he finally stopped on the spa page. On that page, he read about the spa at the Mandarin Oriental:

"The Spa at Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas is a two-floor spa with 17 treatment rooms and relaxation lounges that feature views of Las Vegas Boulevard. Among the variety of spa amenities offered steam rooms, experience showers, a hammam, a laconium, vitality pools, and a Chinese foot spa are included."

He didn't know what a hammam or a lacnium was, but the entire spa sounded nice. Li decided that would head to spa for the rest of the day. Hopefully, Mr. Red wouldn't mind the extra charge to the hotel bill. Li called the spa to make sure they could take him on such short notice. Li walked out of his room and headed towards the elevator.

Li entered spa, there two beautiful women greeted him. "Welcome Mr. Li, please follow us as get you started on your relaxation." Li followed the two women; they took him to an empty massage room. "Please get undressed Mr. Li; an attendant will be here shortly." Li quickly undressed and wrapped a towel around himself, he then laid down on the massage bed waiting for the attendant. Soon, a beautiful massage attendant walked into room. Li blushed as soon as he saw her, the fact that he was almost completely naked in front of a beautiful woman and that he never had a massage before just made Li even more embarrassed. "What areas of your body would you like me to work on, Mr. Li?" asked the massage attendant. Li didn't know what to say, luckily the attendant caught notice. "Don't worry Mr. Li, I'll work on every part of your body and make this massage extra special since it's your first time."

Her soft gentle hands started caressing Li's body. Li yawned and quickly his eyes closed.

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

The casino was especially busy for this time of day. Gambling wasn't on the agenda though, politics were and nothing else. Russel cared very little for politics. There were days when he questioned his career choice. But he was good at what he did, that was probably why he accepted it. Nothing fascinated him more than the criminal mind. Majoring in criminal law wasn't a bad trade off for a spot as a special detective. Russel finally arrived at the conference wing of the Wynn and stopped at conference room 1. At the door stood two security guards. Russ made his way to the two and announced his arrival. "Russel Ballard, LVPD and Forensics." One of the guards checked a list and gave him a nod of approval. The door was open up and inside sat six very influential people, one of which being Mayor Carolyn Goodman.

Russel gave a jerky smile and seated himself at the table. Sitting around him were Police Chief and Superintendent Hugo McNeilson, Assistant Chief Buck Kennedy, Russel's boss Deputy Chief and Head of Forensics and Criminal Intent, Mark LaFluer, LVPD Inspector Tom Gohl, Captain of the LVPD Dennis Muller, and of course the most influential of them all, Ms. Mayor Goodman. McNeilson puffed at Russel, "Late again I see Ballard. What's it this time?" Russel knew he would never make this man happy. Six years at the force, and not once did Hugo McNeilson ever compliment Russ. "Plane troubles, and you know the whole thing about baggage claim." No reply, just a death stare. Mark eased the tension, "Enough about Russel, let's begin the meeting please." Mayor Goodman nodded.

"Right. As you may already know, I have brought you here to discuss recent affairs. The past few months, Congress and the Presidential Administration has allowed for the deployment of over 100,000 troops scattered about Nevada, primarily, throughout Las Vegas. Majority of these soldiers are National Guard, but a good handful are actual Army personal. Now, as to why they are here, that is anybody's guess. I've been instructed by the Vice President of the United States himself to withhold any state investigations and allow full confidentiality to the United State's Government and operation. With that being said, our local law has significantly been cut due to the military presence in our city. The reason I have brought you hear is to decide whether or not we should band with the other city governments of Nevada and take Congress head on. But, the risks of creating state exile is at hand if we go about doing this. I believe-"

Goodman was cut off by McNeilson, "I don't care what you believe mam, I'm sorry, but my force has taken significant budget cuts because of the military presence, and frankly, I don't even know if we will exist any longer if more troops are brought in. I mean hell, this is something I don't want happening. Crime rates have skyrocketed and those troops don't know how to deal with it. Their jurisdiction is overseas, they don't know the common law and order of a city like ours, they weren't trained to handle it. Their grunt force is putting fear into every goddamn citizen in Vegas!"

Goodman nodded at McNeilson's comment, "I agree Hugo, but what do you think will happen if we do actually take this up with the Fed's, or even the Supreme Court for that matter. What are we pressing charges? And to hell, can we even over throw the Government's decision?"

Mark began to talk, "I don't think we can, and for that matter we should lay low. But besides this, did you get word as to why Nellis is no longer run by local police authority? The Federal Prison is completely run by the military now, and I heard they just released a bunch of convicts. Any word as to why this is happening Mayor?"

Goodman continued, "Unfortunately, no. Vice President Kurtz gave me no information in regards to Nellis. He said it was all just part of their "operation". There has also been an increase of military personal at J-Tech, the military pharmaceutical plant. God only knows why they are there. But pressing larger matters, I think this is what we should do. Agreeing with Mr. LaFluer's comment, I believe we should let low and allow the military to continue with whatever they are doing. But, I will try to get as much information out of the President as I could. Before we strike with legal matters against our country's government, I think we should get as much intel as we could first."

McNeilson continued, "Agreed. I can get my men to gather as much third party information as possible. We'll continue to leak into you with what we got. We don't want to scare the government especially if they are worried about what's going on overseas. The Chinese and Russkies are already causing alarm."

Goodman finished, "Well, with that being said. Are there any other concerns? No? Okay, this meeting is over. I look forward to hearing from you gentlemen soon." Everyone disbanded from the table and exited the room. Russel was stopped by his boss. Mark spoke in a settling tone, "Hey Russ, I've got a case for you. Two found dead fifteen minutes outside the strip at the 'Lux Motel'. Forensics has the place in lockdown, they say the murders were bizarre and gruesome. Can you check it out?"

Russ had to think about it for a minute. He promised Li he would take him out. He stood their in silence for what seemed a good five minutes, but gave an answer. "Sure. I will check it out later." Mark said thank you and left him alone. Russ would check it out much later. He wanted to unwind with his new friend before taking another case. He thought he deserved a little downtime, especially after that heated meeting.

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

Li woke up from his massage, he never felt so relaxed before. Li was alone; he figured that the massage attendant had already left. Li had completely lost track of the time during his nap, he looked around for a clock. It was already 11:00 o'clock. Li quickly got off the massage bed and got dressed. Li started heading back to his room.

Li got back to his room; he checked his email and the phone. There was no email for Mr. Red or any phone calls from Russel trying to contact him. Li decided lay on the bed, while trying figure out what to do next.

A few minutes later, the phone rang it was the front desk. "Hello Mr. Li, there is someone in the lobby asking for you. He says his name is Russel Ballard and that he is waiting for you. Do you want me to tell Mr. Ballard anything?" "Tell him, I'll be down soon," replied Li. Li quickly ran towards the elevator, he didn't want to keep Russel waiting any longer.

When Li arrived at the lobby, he saw Russel waiting in front of the elevator. The two shook hands. Li could tell Russel seemed stressed, but managed to smile when he saw Li.

"Did you eat yet?" asked Li

Russel shook his head. Li could tell he tired, as well.

"If you're not up to going out tonight, we can see Vegas another time," said Li.

Russel not wanting to be a bad host, "Don't worry about it, Li. I'll be fine. Besides, Vegas is the city that never sleeps."
The two walked out of the Mandarin Oriental and grabbed a cab.

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

Russel took a nap before heading over to the Mandarin Oriental. He had a room at the Wynn. What was supposed to be a nap turned into a slumber. He was asleep for six hours, it was already ten. Russel debated whether or not to just sleep a little longer and head to the Lux Motel to work, but he decided to freshen up and head out to find his buddy. After a quick shower and change of clothes, Russ was ready to take his buddy out on the strip. He took a cab to the Oriental and shifted his thoughts. The meeting took a toil on his mind. A lot was going on, and he had no idea how to handle it. Maybe a night of drinks and socializing would heal him. The cab arrived and Russ once again, paid a hefty tip.

Russel headed inside to the front desk and caught a clerk. He thought it would be the best way to reach his newly acquainted friend. "Hi. I'm looking for a Li...uh, Li." He totally forgot his full name, this would be interesting. "Well sir, there are many Li's staying here, how about Li Xiao An?" Ironically, Li was the first of the Li's to pop up. Going with it, Russel blurted, "Yes. Him. Can you call him down to the front desk if he's available?" The clerk nodded, "Yes. Hold on please." She seemed to have gotten a hold of him. Soon his new buddy would walk down and they'd unwind on the town.

Li eventually made his way downstairs. Same guy, lucky Russ. When Li arrived at the lobby, he saw Russel waiting in front of the elevator. The two shook hands. Li could tell Russel seemed stressed, but managed to smile when he saw Li. "Did you eat yet?" asked Li. Russel shook his head. Li could tell he was tired as well. "If you're not up to going out tonight, we can see Vegas another time," said Li." Russ shook his head, "Don't worry about it Li. I'll be fine, besides, Vegas never sleeps." Li laughed at his stupid comment. Russ proceeded to walk out with his friend to the cab stop.

"So, what would you like to do first buddy? Gamble, dance, drink, see a late show? There's a lot to do and ton's of people to meet, especially some fine Nevada ladies. Americans, sure you would like to try the "white meat"?" Russ started to laugh. He didn't know if he offended his foreign friend or not.

Gamble, dance, drink, late show, "white meat" Li wasn't sure what "white meat" meant. He was a little curious to ask Russel about the "white meat," but he decided against it. "Gambling sounds fun, do where there is a good casino?" asked Li.

"I know plenty of good places, Li." The two got into the cab. "Where to?" asked the cab driver. "Monte Carlo Casino," replied Russel. The cab took off; it was short 3-minute cab ride from the Mandarin Oriental to the Monte Carlo Casino. The two got out of the cab and stood before the magnificent Monte Carlo Casino.

"Have you ever heard about the Monte Carlo before?" asked Russel.

Li shook his head, "This place looks amazing."

"This one is based off of the real Monte Carlo in Europe. Maybe you know it from watching James Bond movie, Casino Royale."
Li shook his head again, "I don't know much about American movies." The two walked into the casino. Right as they entered the Monte Carlo, the doorman greeted them. "Welcome to the Monte Carlo Casino, you'll find the hotel lobby to your left and the casino to your right. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask us. Enjoy your stay at the Monte Carlo."

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

Of course, the two had no intention of staying at the Monte Carlo. To be perfectly honest, Russel hated the Monte Carlo. The Bellagio was his favorite casino, the Carlo was located closest to where he needed to be, the Lux Motel. Just because he wanted to unwind did not mean he wanted to blow off work. He knew it was unethical, but he was just going to bring his new friend with when the time was right. But for now, it was time to gamble away. Russel and Li walked toward casino. Russel was wearing grey dress pants with black Salvatore Ferragamo dress shoes, black belt, red dress shirt with black tie, and he had his hair slicked back. Li wasn't accustomed to the way things were in Vegas, so he had khaki shorts, thong sandals, a blue crue neck, and that was it. Together they looked mighty different.

"So, what do you want to play Li? I'm sure they gamble in China, no?" said Russel awkwardly. Li nodded, "Yes. They do, I enjoy a good game of black jack. Uh, is there an ATM around, I seem to only have this debit card." Russ pointed him in the direction of the nearest cash station, "that way my friend." Odd little guy, another non American thing to do. Russel waited until Li came back, "let's go find a table shall we?" The two chatted while searching for a low stakes table. Oddly, the stakes were rather high this evening. It seemed fifty dollars was the lowest. Russel grunted, he knew the Bellagio would have fifteen dollar stakes, but he didn't complain. They were here and he was going to make the best of it, especially since business was just around the corner. The two stopped at a table with two other players and sat down.

The dealer eyed them, "Welcome boys, stakes are $50." Both Russel and Li bought chips, Russel buying another $50 worth. The cards were dealt and play began. Russel had a ten, with the first card on the table being a seven. Everyone was dealt a first card and the betting began with the second. The first man, older gentlemen, had a four and then a ten. He opted to hit but busted. Russel was up. His second card was an eight, he stayed. Li was next, his first card was a five and the second a ten, he hit and it was a six, 21, Li won the pot. "Wow Li, look at you," laughed Russ. He definitely was in for a treat.

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

Li never had such luck before; he kept on winning hand after hand. After several hands of blackjack, a waiter came up to the table and handed Li a drink, "compliments of the Monte Carlo, sir." Li took the drink, he didn't even know what the waiter offered him, but he took a sip anyways. Right after the first sip, Li started feeling light headed and his face turned bright red. Russel chuckled, "You got the Asian flush Li." "I am fine, my friend. Let's keep playing." However, the alcohol seemed also have an effect on Li's ability to blackjack because soon after he lost most of his winning just from making bad calls.

"I think you had enough for tonight, Li. Let's take you back to the hotel and hopefully you sober up in the morning. Here put your arm around me." Li put his arm around Russel, while they walked out of the Monte Carlo. The two got into a cab and headed back to the Mandarin Oriental. Russel walked Li to the front desk, "My friend here needs help in getting back to his room; his name is Li Xiao An. I would help, but I need to be somewhere right now." "Thank you, we'll help Mr. Li get back to his room." "Oh and tell Li to call Russel in the morning, my number is 702- 320-7110." Russel then walked out the Mandarin Oriental and into the night.
The next morning, Li woke up with a major hangover. "Ugh, what did I do last night?" Li found a note written next to his bed, "Call Russel at 702- 320-7110" -Mandarin Oriental Staff. Li looked at the clock it was 6:45 am, "Too early to call Russel." Li then decided to check his email. There was an urgent message from Mr. Red:

Li,

By now, I am sure you are adjusted to your new settings in Las Vegas. I am also sure that you have noticed an increased U.S. military presence in Las Vegas, as well. We believe the increased military presence has to do something with J-Tech, a pharmaceutical military plant. Why they require such a large military presence is something we are interested in. Your main goal is to find out what is happening at J-Tech and why they require such a large force to be present. Report back to me when you have solid evidence of what is going.

-Mr. Red

J-Tech, the name kept on racing to Li's head. Where had he heard the name J-Tech before. Li was definitely aware of the increased military presence in Las Vegas, but he didn't know that they were related to J-Tech. Again, the name J-Tech sounded familiar to Li, but couldn't figure out where he had heard the name before. It was a new day, Li planned to call Russel later morning, and then he would go start investigating the whole J-Tech scenario, but first he needed breakfast.

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

:Night:
Li kept winning hand after hand. Russel was really impressed with his new friends skill. A crowd was forming and cheering as Li kept racking in the dough. Servers proceeded to serve the table drinks, and Li got a little bit carried away. Russel couldn't help but laugh at his buddies lack of ability to hold down his liquor. The Asian flush was apparent and Russ burst out laughing, "You got the Asian flush Li!"

Li told Russ he was fine and kept playing. All seemed to fall so quickly. The over confidence and constant pounding of alcohol took Li's mind away from the game and made him lose everything. The crowd soon lost its excitement and dispersed. Russel could tell Li was starting to get sick. He definitely would not be able to come with him to the Lux, he would just have to drop Li off at his room. "Come on buddy, I think you had enough for tonight. Let's take you back to the hotel and hopefully you sober up in the morning. Here put your arm around me." The man couldn't hold himself up, as soon as he stood he fell to the ground. Russ picked him up and put Li's arm around him. Luckily for Russel's sake, Li was super light. They exited the Carlo and snagged a cab. The cab immediately took them back to the Mandarin which wasn't a far ride.

Once arriving, Russel walked Li to the front desk, "My friend here needs help in getting back to his room. His name is Li Xiao An, hopefully I pronounced it correctly. I would help, but I need to be somewhere right now." The concierge gave a warm smile and small giggle, she knew he was toasted. "No problem, thank you, we'll help Mr. Li get back to his room." Russel nodded thanks and walked away. He caught himself and turned around. "Oh, and can you please tell Li to call Russel Ballard in the morning, my number is 702-320-7110." The concierge nodded again and Russel gave his thanks. It sure was going to be an interesting night. A spur of the moment case like this was rare. Normally he had a heads up, but LaFluer threw this out of the blue.

He waited for a cab at the cab station thinking about the night ahead. Hopefully this was just another double homicide and nothing else, he wasn't interested in working tonight. Russel got into the next available cab and headed to the Lux Motel. The Lux was a little bit further from the Mandarin than the Carlo, but he arrived in due time. "Thank you." Another big tip, he was tapping out from cab fare, he definitely should have taken his car.

The Lux was really run down, for Motel's that is. He went into the front office and rang the bell. The clerk came up to the window, "Hello?" "Hi, my names Russel Ballard, I'm with LVPD." He showed the man his badge. "I heard there were two found dead on your establishment and our department boarded up the room, is this true?" The man nodded, "Yea, second level, room 212. I'll take you up there." Russel said thank you and followed the man. Sure enough, room 212 was tapped up with police scene tape. The man grabbed his master key and opened the door. Inside the lights were on and the whole room was set up for investigation. The two bodies had death cloth draped over them and were at the far end of the room, near the second bed. "Well, I'll leave you be." Russel said thank you and proceeded to close the door.

He whipped out his white latex gloves and put them on. He wanted to investigate the bodies first. Russel walked up to the dead bodies and knelt down. He pulled the cloth off of one of the bodies and the aroma of decay struck his nose. "Ugh, fucking sick." After the smell receded, Russel took a look at the body. A huge chunk was missing from the males neck, it seemed like a heavy bite mark. Another chunk of flesh was taking out from his arm. These were definitely bite wounds, but from what? There were no traces of an animal or anything. Russel needed to call the office to set up a forensic kit request. He needed more information.

Russ walked out of the room and dialed work. "Hi, Becky? It's Russ. Yea, I'm over at the Lux, I'm going to need you to send out a few other officers here and make sure one picks up a forensic kit for me, I need to scan these homicides." Becky replied in a undertone, "Negative. LaFluer doesn't want you to scan the bodies until tomorrow, he called for you to do an observational investigation." Russ clenched his fist, "Beck, the wounds won't be fresh tomorrow, they are already starting to decompose. These deaths didn't occur today. Do you have any information on how they were killed?" Becky responded again, "Negative. No information was given, the ward said housekeeping found the bodies, no one heard of anything." Bizarre. It was going to be more difficult than he imagined. "Alright. Thank you Becky." She replied no problem and Russel hung up. He turned back into the room and stopped dead in his tracks. One of the bodies was missing.

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

Li walked down to the reception room where breakfast was being served. Breakfast was being served buffet style, omelets, scrambled eggs, French toast, fruit platters, bagels, cereals, oatmeal, and Danishes. This was all new to Li; he found it strange that Americans would so much different food. He was used to having a bowl of rice or porridge in the army and it was all you can eat too. Li grabbed a plate full of scrambled eggs, French toast, and fruit. He took a seat and started scarfing down the plate of food. Suddenly, a staff member from the Mandarin Oriental walked up to the table Li was sitting.

"Glad to see you awake this morning. You might not remember me, but I helped you get into your room last night. Did you call your friend yet? I just wanted to make sure that you got the note I left by your bed," said the concierge. "Thank you for helping me last night. I do not remember what happened last night. I did not call my friend yet, I will probably call him after breakfast," replied Li. "Well, if you have any questions about anything just ask. Oh and when you do call your friend tell him I said hi, by the way my name is Vanessa." "My name is Li." "I should get back to work before I get into trouble, nice talking to you Li."

Li finished his breakfast and headed back to his room. It was now 8:30, so Li decided to give Russel a call. Li picked up the hotel phone and dialed Russel's number. The phone kept on ringing, but no answer. Finally, it went to voicemail, "Hi, you reached Russel, sorry I am unable to take your call right, so please your name and number after the beep and I'll get back to you as soon as possible." *Beep* "Hi Russel, this is Li, I got your note telling me to call you in the morning. I assume you're busy at the moment, so give me a call back when you get the chance. I think I will go out and explore Las Vegas in the morning and Vanessa says Hi. I think she helped me get back to my room last night after you dropped me off. Anyways, give me a call back when you get the chance my room number is 2207. Bye."

Li decided to use this time to go and check out J-tech. Li grabbed his camera and left his room. Li entered the lobby, where Vanessa saw him. "Going out already, Li?" "Do you know where J-Tech is?" asked Li. "J-Tech, the big military pharmaceutical plant?" "Yeah, I was wondering where they are?" "They have corporate office in city, and I think the actual pharmaceutical plant is out in the desert. Why do you want to go there Li? It's not a tourist destination." "I am a photojournalist, so I want to take pictures of the big industry in Las Vegas." "Li, J-Tech is very secretive, especially with the military everywhere now, you should be careful, but if you really need to go there just tell the cab driver." "Thank you Vanessa."

Li walked out the Mandarin Oriental and got into a cab. "J-Tech Corporate office," he told the cab driver.

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

revious Night:

It vanished. The one body lay alone on the motel room floor. Russel rubbed his eyes and looked again, maybe the alcohol was playing with him. Nope. There still was only one body. He closed the door behind him and checked under the first bed. Nothing. He walked over to the second bed and looked under. Nothing. He walked back towards the end near the bathroom, stepping over the one body and now empty sheet. The bathroom door was closed slightly, he saw something inside. Carefully, Russel creaked open the door. Inside huddled over the toilet was a person, breathing heavily and gasping for breath. Russel couldn't make out a face, the person was facing the opposite direction, as if he/she was vomiting into the toilet. Russel calmly spoke, "He-hello. Are you alright? I didn't mean to scare you, I am a police officer, I was only interested in investigating. Hello?" No answer. The heavy gasping continued. "Excuse me, do you know what happened to the other dead body...I need you to tell me where you put it. Excus-"

The person turned and Russel took an immediate step back. The person had a chunk missing from their jaw and forehead. It looked to be a female. Her eyes were blood-shot red and foam was pouring out of her mouth. She snarled at Russel, twitching her neck. Slowly she rose, eyes fixed on Russel. "Mam' are you alright!? I'm just looking to he-"

Before he could finish his sentence, the lady let out a howl and darted at Russel. She tackled him onto the tile floor, snarling right in his face, saliva spitting against him. Russel was in shock, he didn't know what to do. She was snapping towards him as if she wanted to bite him. Russel managed to pull in his right leg and strike forward with a powerful kick pushing the deranged woman off of him. She flew into the toilet and cracked her head on the wall behind it. Russel quickly shot up and looked at the woman. She snapped her neck and got back up, charging yet again. Russel ran towards the entrance and starting fiddling with the door. The sweat from his palms kept preventing him from opening the door. He turned around and saw the women standing at the far end. At that moment, the other body sat up. The sheet fell down and the body, or man, turned his attention toward Russel. He let out a snarl just like the women and pushed himself up.

"You've got to be fucking kidding me." At that moment, both of the attackers charged at Russel. Russel dodged the women, her momentum sent her flying into the window shattering the glass. But the male tackled Russel after the initial dodge. Russel quickly rolled out of the man's grasp and took the lamp sitting between the beds. As the man regained his posture, Russel smashed the lamp over his head. Immediately the man went down. The women got back up from her crash and let out a monstrous howl. She was hungry and Russel was her prey. Before she could charge again, the motel room door flew open and LaFluer stormed in. "GET DOWN!" Russel dropped to the floor and the women turned towards the noise. Before she could let out another snarl, LaFluer put her down with a bullet to the head. Blood splattered from behind her skull and the body collapsed on the floor.

Russel shaken, slowly rose back on his feet. "What, the fuck, was that!!!?" LaFluer, breathing heavily, gestured for Russel to follow him outside. What was supposed to be a routine investigation turned into a nightmare that was just about to begin.

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

Li stood in front of the J-Tech Corporate Office. The building was 30 stories tall with tinted windows. Just looking at the building, Li got a bad vibe about the things happening at J-Tech. There were two armed soldiers standing in front of the door. It looked like Li wouldn't be able to get in, but he decided to try anyways. Li walked up to the front door.

"Identification," said one of the soldiers. "I accidentally left it at home," said Li. "Identification number then," said the same soldier. "56908," said Li off the top of his head. The soldier repeated the number into a walk-talkie. "You're free to enter," said the soldier. Li walked in through the front door, he saw more armed soldiers. However, as just soon as Li entered the building, one of soldier took his rifle butt and nailed Li in the head. Li fell on the ground passing out.

Li awoke in the middle of white room with a large one-way mirror inside the room. Li was strapped to the chair with his hands bound. There were two armed guards standing by the doorway holding M16s. Li figured that even if he managed to untie himself the two guards would just shoot him before he could try anything. Suddenly the door opened, a man wearing a white lab coat walking into the white room.

"Who are you and who do you work for?" asked the man in the white lab coat. Li just kept his mouth shut. "Let me ask you again, who are you and who do you work for? Because obviously you do not work for us, using some fake identification number that you just made up to try get in here." Again, Li kept his mouth shut. The man in the white lab coat signaled one of the guards to come over, "Hit him a couple more times, and then we'll see if he's willing to talk." The guard walked over to Li and took his P226 out of its holster started to beat Li with it. Li coughed out blood, "Talk, otherwise I'll just have our friend here continue to beat you." Li continued to keep his mouth shut. Beating had brought back memories of when Li was serving in the People's Liberation Army, he had been beaten many times for insubordination, so Li was used to the beating, but he didn't know how far these the guards would go just to get information from him. The other guard standing by the door walked up the man in the white lab coat and whispered something in his ear.

"Stop, I think our Asian friend here has learned his lesson. Fortunately, for you, I have other urgent matters that need to be attended to. Clean him up and give him to the Las Vegas Police Department, tell them that our friend here was trespassing on our property and interfering with the U.S. government protocols." "Understood sir," said the guards. The guards unbound Li and threw him a towel; "clean yourself up you commie," said one of the guards. "Call LVPD now and tell them we got a trespasser, that needs to be picked up." The guards blindfolded Li and led him outside of J-Tech.

Once they were outside of J-Tech, the guards handed Li over to the LVPD. "This one is a trouble-maker; he managed to sneak inside and knocked a guard before we managed to catch. Even then he put up a fight," said one of the guards. "Don't worry; we'll take him from here. Sorry for bothering you guys. Our orders are to not interfere in your business," said one of the LVPD officers. The officers put Li in the squad car and drove off to the LVPD Police Station.

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

-Previous Night-

Russel and LaFluer hopped into LaFluer's squad car. Russel was still breathing heavily from his recent encounter. For awhile, the two drove in silence. LaFluer let Russel calm his breathing before he said anything. "I didn't want you to find out that way." Russel turned to his boss in disgust and confusion. "Find out that way? Find out what!?" LaFluer continued speaking, "I sent you on that case not knowing anything about it. I thought it was a normal investigation. Until I got word." Russel stared at him waiting for more, "Yes..?" LaFluer continued, "Until I got word that it was a case dealing with unusual circumstances." Russel knew LaFluer was beating around the bush, "Mark, you're not telling me something and I want to know fucking what."

LaFluer took a deep breath while pulling into a parking lot. He parked and continued talking. "Look Russ, a lot of shit has been going on lately that higher ups don't want anyone else to know. Recently, there have been calls to dispatch dealing with out of the ordinary attacks. Bites, forceful beatings, cannibalism, just crazy shit. McNeilson was issued by Goodman not to arise concern, motioning to tell those who dial 9-1-1 that it is a simple virus, to remain calm. The shitty thing is, we aren't sending help. The first call we sent in, two officers wound up dead. We were ordered not to deal with it anymore and every call we got we were issued to put under the table. God only knows how many calls we've gotten, but this thing is not normal. That's why the military is here. So far, Vegas is the only city with this thing occurring. They are making sure it is contained."

Russel was still confused. Mark fired off all of that fast. He had no idea what came out of his mouth. "Mark, I don't understand any of that. What the hell are these calls exactly?"

Mark shook his head, "I don't fucking know. Okay? That's all I can tell you. Look, head home. I'll talk to you about this later on." With that Mark started the car and pulled out of the parking lot quickly. Eventually Mark took them outside the strip to the more suburban area and arrived at Russel's house. Russel got out of the car and headed toward his front door. Before he could open the door, Mark yelled, "Russ. Do not repeat any of this at the station! They're keeping an eye on us! If you leak this, we're all screwed!" And that was the last thing Mark said. He sped out of the complex. It all was too much for Russel. He shook his thoughts away and headed straight to bed.

-Current Time-

Russel woke up late. He was off for the day. His phone went off buzzing. Quickly Russel answered. It was McNeilson, "Russel, there's someone at the station. Says he knows you."

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

Li sat in squad handcuffed; he felt that he had already screwed up the mission. On his first recon, he managed to get knocked unconscious and possibly alerted J-Tech to the presence of the Chinese investigating them. He was worried that as soon as Mr. Red found out, he would be off the mission and sent back home or possibly killed. It was a quiet ride to the police station, until one of the officers spoke to Li."

"What were you doing at J-tech?" Li just kept his mouth shut. "We're going to find out one way or another; we can't have the government on our asses, so we need to know." Li opened his mouth, "I am a photojournalist." "Photojournalist…are you kidding me? There is nothing to take a picture of…J-Tech Corporate Offices is a tall tinted building." Soon, the squad car drove to the front of the Las Vegas Police Department. "We're here." One of the arresting officers took Li out, while the other went to go park the car.

The police officer directed Li to another officer, "Take him to booking, I need to file a report." Li was led to booking area. Li got his mug shot taken first, "Smile for the camera," said the cameraman. They then took him over to another area to get his fingerprints taken. "Alright go sit over there; we'll be with you shortly." Li sat in an empty chair waiting for an officer.

The arresting officer arrived with a blank report, "Name, date of birth, phone number, address, and nationality?" Li answered all the questions, "Li Xiao An, born May 9th, 1987, I don't have a phone right now, I am staying at the Mandarin Oriental, and I am from China." "Great, we got other foreign tourist over here," yelled the arresting officer. "We're going to put you in a holding cell for now, until we can figure everything out." "Wait, is Russel Ballard here? I know Russel." "First you go to the holding cell, then I'll go and find out if Russel is here or not."

Li was placed in a tiny holding cell; there was a small toilet in the corner, and several other men sitting in the cell. The arresting officer walked off. He went to the police chief, Hugo McNeilson. "Mr. McNeilson, the Asian we just brought in for trespassing at J-Tech, says he knows Ballard. What do you want me to do, sir?" "I'll handle it, I haven't seen Ballard all day yet, so I'll give him a call.

McNeilson grabbed his phone and called Russel, "Russel, there's someone at the station. Says he knows you."

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

Russel sat up in bed trying to comprehend what the chief was saying. "Wha-who?" The chief responded in a scruffy tone. "Someone was booked this morning. He's in the holding cell, he says he knows you." Russel was curious now, "Who?" McNeilson responded, "The name's Li Xiao An, says he knows you from somewhere." Li? What the hell did that guy do. Russel was silent for a bit, trying to picture Li committing a crime. "Hello. Ballard?" Russ snapped out of his thoughts, "Uh, yea, I know him. Why's he in there?" McNeilson continued. "He was caught trespassing on J-Tech property. He had no papers to check it out, said he was a photojournalist, but without papers, you can't do shit. If he's with you, I'll let him loose, but you have to come pick him up." Russel replied, "Yea, he's with me, can you put him on the phone quick?" McNeilson sighed but answered in an unfriendly manner, "Alright. Hold on."

J-Tech. Why was Li trying to scope out J-Tech, his father's company? Sure, no one has really heard much about J-Tech. Everything was kept under wraps at that place. It was top secretive and all that shit. But why Li, this random Chinese tourist. Russel was even more curious about this guy now, it seemed like he had a new case at hand. After about five minutes, Russ heard Li's accent over the phone. "Hello?" "Li, it's me. Russ. What the hell were you thinking trying to get into J-Tech!?"

"Hello?" "Li, it's me. Russ. What the hell were you thinking trying to get into J-Tech!?"

Li felt that Russel didn't seem to happy about the idea Li try to get into J-tech. After all, it was Russel had been a good friend to Li ever since he arrived in Las Vegas and Russel's job might be on the line because Li decided to associate himself with Russel. Li wanted to tell Russel the truth that he was working for the Chinese government to spy on J-Tech, but it was too risky to tell Russel over the phone.

"Russel, I haven't been entirely truthful with you, but I can't tell you everything on the phone right now. Let's just say that my job requires me to work closely with J-Tech. I can't tell you anymore than that over the phone right now. If you want to know more, then you need to pick me up from the station. If not, then I'll just stay here and you can forgot about me. The choice is yours…"

Li hung up right after he said, "the choice is yours." He didn't want to hear Russel's answer over the phone, he wanted to know if the small amount of time they spent together was enough for Russel to trust Li. "Alright, Mr. Li time to go back to your holding cell." Li got up walked back to the holding cell and waited.

Li responded, "Russel, I haven't been entirely truthful with you, but I can't tell you everything on the phone right now. Let's just say that my job requires me to work closely with J-Tech. I can't tell you anymore than that over the phone right now. If you want to know more, then you need to pick me up from the station. If not, then I'll just stay here and you can forgot about me. The choice is yours." Russel was getting an unclear answer again. He didn't like it. First Mitch, now Li. Sure, he didn't know Li at all, they've known each other for a day, but after thinking about it for a split second, he realized that this was his chance to piece things together. Things have been so different lately and maybe this random stranger could be the key to finishing the puzzle. He was going to get Li, and they were going to get things straight. Sure, trust was still an issue, but sometimes its best to just say "fuck it". And that was what Russel was feeling at that moment. There really was nothing else to lose.

Quickly, Russ shot out of bed and went in the shower. He wanted to wash up before rushing out to the station. After a brief shower, Russel put on clothes and headed out the door. The drive to the station took longer than usual. Traffic was heavy for the mid-morning, probably because military convoy's were moving about the streets. Finally pushing through the traffic, Russel made it to the station. He walked to the station offices and swung open the door. The station was going about business as usual, Mitch bumped into Russ unexpectedly. "Oh hi, thought you had the day off today." Russel sighed, "I did, but I have to pick somebody up." Mitch opened his mouth wide, "Ah, yes! The Asian. He's in cell B, here, take the key." Mitch handed Russ the holding cell key and walked away. Russ made his way over to the cell and sure enough, Li was there, sitting down with his head facing the floor. "Li, get up." Slowly the Asian lifted his head and looked at Russ.

"Come on, you're free to go." Li bowed thanking Russel and walked towards the entrance. Open exiting the cell, Russel grabbed Li by the neck and whispered in his ear. "Look here, I don't know what you know, or who you're working with, but alls I know is, if you try to pull anything on me, I'll knock every tooth out of your fragile little mouth, understand?" Russel let go and Li nodded, rubbing the back of his neck. "Follow me." The two made their way outside and to Russel's car. They got in and pulled out of the station. The ride was silent for awhile, until Russel decided to speak up. "Alright Li, lemme hear it. Why were you really at J-Tech. Tell me everything." Russel waited for his answer.

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

"Alright Li, lemme hear it. Why were you really at J-Tech. Tell me everything." Russel waited for his answer. "I will tell you the entire story, but let finish me before you say something."

"I don't know how much you remember from our first encounter, but most of what I told you is true. However, when I told you I got some vacation time from my new boss, well that was a lie. I did serve most of my time in the military, but I was recently dismissed from the China's military. Soon after I was dismissed, a person named Mr. Red claimed he works for the a secret Chinese government agency. I don't know what he saw in me, but he offered me a job. I was told that this job would involve traveling to the United States. Seeing how I had no other option, I accepted his offer. Soon after arriving in Las Vegas, he told me to enjoy Las Vegas, while I had the chance, and that he would send me more details about the mission. This morning, he sent me the details about my mission to the United States. He seemed to know about the increased military presence in Las Vegas, and he told that the increased military presence was related to J-Tech. The government agency he works for is interested in what they are working on that it would need such the presence of the U.S. army. I believe that this worries the Chinese government, that the United States is planning something, seeing how the tensions between the United States and China aren't very good right now. I decided to go investigate what was happening at J-Tech, but they caught me. In short, I work for a secret Chinese government agency whose goal is to spy on J-Tech. Whether you want to believe this story or not, I'll leave it up to you, but that is all I know."

"In short, I work for a secret Chinese government agency whose goal is to spy on J-Tech. Whether you want to believe this story or not, I'll leave it up to you, but that is all I know."

Russel didn't know what to believe. Here he thought he had it all figured out. Life, work, even family. But he knew he would never figure that one out. His father and him never were close and his father was always away at work. Now some stranger wanted to get into the very place Russel's father worked. It sure was a full circle coincidence. But why J-Tech, why were they the target of this military ploy? Why did the Chinese government want access to a pharmaceutical plant? It just did not make any sense. Russel continued driving for a bit, remaining silent for the time being.

Out in the distance was a Starbucks. Russel decided he would sit Lee down and talk about the situation at hand. Quickly Russel pulled into the coffee shop parking lot and parked the car. "Come on, let's chat over coffee." They both got out and headed inside the store. There really wasn't anyone there, save for an old couple chatting and a man on his laptop. Russel walked up to the counter and turned to Li. "You people drink coffee right?" Li nodded in silence and Russel turned back towards the barista. "Two grande Pike Roast's please. Black." The barista smiled, "Alright sir, I'll have those up in no time!" The two grabbed their coffee's and Russ paid, leaving a generous tip yet again. There was a nice and quite table near the back of the store, perfect for privacy and discussion. Russel sat down and Li followed. Taking a long sip of his coffee, Russel began to eye the man in front of him. "I believe you Li. I don't know why, but I do. There's too much fucked up shit going on not to."

Li nodded, "I know, and I'm not even from around here." Russ chuckled, "Yea. This must be one hell of a welcoming party for you. But seriously Li. This thing with the Chinese government you are talking about, what is exactly going on?" Li shrugged, "Honestly, I do not know. I was given pretty private commands, and well, when I was in the military, let's just say I wasn't the favorite." Russel nodded, "Well, whatever is going on, I would like some answers, and I don't think I am the only one." Li nodded and the two continued to drink their coffee.

About this time, a middle aged gentlemen stumbled into the store. He was pale and decently skinny, except for his beer belly. Russel's attention was caught as the man walked closer. He seemed like he was sick. The man was sweating and had bags under his eyes. He walked to the counter and put his hands on the table top. "Excuse me, may I get a tall, extra hot green tea please." The barista smiled, "Why sure sir, you don't look too good." The man smiled a weak smile, "Yes, I know. I had a long day with my dog and well, it seems like I got something from him. Never good never good." The lady smiled, "Of course, dogs carry a lot of germs you know." The man nodded, "You can say that." "I'll have that green tea right up."

As the barista left the counter to start his tea, the man began moaning loud and grabbing his stomach. Within an instance he dropped to the floor on all fours. Everyone was watching the scene unfold. The barista's ran from behind the counter and aided the man. The lady serving him knelt down. "Sir, are you alright?!" The man was screaming, unable to respond. "Sir, please, do you need me to call 9-1-1!?!? The man was spitting blood, it was a chaotic scene. The barista on the floor turned to her co-worker. "Dammit Darrel, call 9-1-1!!" The African-American male nodded and ran to the back. Russel stood up and watched the rest of the scene unfold.

The man started seizing than immediately plopped to the floor. The girl knelt down to check his pulse but couldn't read anything. She moved in close to try and see if he was breathing, but couldn't feel anything. All of a sudden, the man snapped at the girl and ripped a chunk from her neck. She started screaming and fell backwards. The man stumbled up and jumped the girl, ripping her to shreds, grabbing the flesh and sticking it in his mouth. Everyone got up and ran out in panic, the scream from the girl was the only thing heard, minus the ravage scrowl coming from the now rabid man.

Russel couldn't believe the sight, it was chaos. Li was panicking too.

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

Russel couldn't believe the sight, it was chaos. Li was panicking too.

It happen all too fast to Li, one second the man was on the ground unconscious, the next second he was attacking the barista. Li grabbed nearby chair and swung at the man. The man turned his head towards Li and moaned at Li. He slowly got up and turned towards Li. The man started walking towards Li; Li took another swing with the chair. Li managed to hit, but he kept on walking towards Li, while groaning.

Russel managed to maneuver around the man, "hey you, over here" shouted Russel. The man turned his head towards Russel, but looked back at Li. "Get down Li." Russel grabbed a nearby table threw it at the zombie. The table managed to knock down and pin the man down. "Quickly Li, hold down the table." Li held down the table, while Russel ran over and pulled out his gun. He took two point blank shots in the man's head. The man dropped dead and stopped groaning.

"Crap this is a repeat of last night," said Russel. "What are you talking about Russel?" asked Li. "I'll explain it to you later, but first we gotta…"

All of a sudden, the dead barista slowly got up and started walking towards Russel and Li. "Distract her Li and we'll use the same strategy as we did on the last one." Li nodded, he grabbed another chair and swung at the barista. The barista staggered a bit, but continued moving towards Li. Russel grabbed another table threw at the barista. It managed to knock her down. "Pin her quick!" yelled Russel. Li managed to pin the barista, while Russel drew his gun and place two shots into her head.

"Russel, so what do you mean this is a repeat of last night?"

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

"Russel, so what do you mean this is a repeat of last night?"

Russel regained his breath, "I was called on a case last night. Thought it was a nothing out of the ordinary. But as I was investigating the bodies, they jumped me. But they were more vicious than these two. No, these two here were not a problem at all. But the bodies I saw last night, they attacked me like rabid animals." Li was speechless for awhile. He was analyzing what just happened. It was a lot to take in. Soon sirens would arrive on the scene. "We have to get out of here, we need to talk about what just happened at a safe place. My house, quick get in my car." Li nodded and the two darted off in his vehicle.

[OOC - Sorry for not posting right away Justin. I've been super busy with mid terms and I am on vacation soon. However, I have everything scripted and it's going to get intense!]

RE: Civilian Chapters 2015

Whatever just happened, Li still haven't had time to finish processing it. If Russel had encountered something similar last night, Li figured that it could be related to J-tech, but he wasn't a hundred percent sure. Li decided he would hold off on reporting to Mr. Red.

Traffic was bad, there were police cars heading towards the coffee shop, but Russel and Li managed to get on the highway and they headed towards Russel's house.

"Li, you okay? You seem a little shaken up?" Li nodded, "I'm still trying to get a sense of what just happened. It has been a long day for me and the attack at the coffee shop just added to the confusion. I'm gonna take a nap, wake me up when we get to your place.

Li shut eyes. This would last time for a while that Li would be able to get some rest with what was about to happen soon.
