star wars rpg

I have decided to put my other idea on hold for a moment and delve into a style that I greatly enjoy and know alot about and that I hope will catch on. Star wars is something that I'm really really into so this should be easy to GM.

I'm a member of the lightsaber enthusiast collective known as Saberwars.com, and we are in the process of creating a timeline of events in our characters history to create a working fan fiction. I think it might be a fun idea to rp as the characters that my friends and I portray because it isnt entirely canon, as long as you can make a character make sense in the SW universe than you can join. the link to the current list of characters and the ime line are here:

If you can't see a character that appeals to you then feel free to design your own. Many of the members are not listed because there are well over 200 members and not everyone has submitted there characters here, but the story we are going to be following takes place in a currently working story in the process of being written by us called Chaos theory which can be found here:

only four parts of the story have been written so far so it will be both easy and a good idea to continue from where it leaves off...let me know what you think

I love Star Wars RP too but I am a little turned off by the fact we are going off of a story that has already been started...I feel like this may make an inconsistency in characters and ideas as we might see the story going way differently than your members have. Why not start a new RP hear, new characters. I mean give us a brief time line if you want it to fit into the scheme of your idea of Star Wars history works. One of the great things about the Star Wars novels is they are very disjointed and allow for new stories that don't relate but make sense and are important in their own way. Utilize that.

Sometimes I feel, that starwars is just done too often... What about something in the mass effect universe?

Its open ended, and has a VERY strong "Wild West" atmosphere to it, along with plenty of room to create. The only limitation is that its in the milky way galaxy, but even that could probably be expanded on if you could come up with the new means of transportation.

Any interest in that?

I don;t know much of the Mass Effect universe, develop something and maybe I would be interested. I am a huge Star Wars fan though. It used to be used a lot in FFRP not so much anymore.

I'm definitely not the best GM, but I will see what I can put together for you. It really is a simple universe, you don't have to know a lot to do well and have fun. Its also very easy to pick up on.

I appreciate the input, mainly I was just going to use the basic plot of the story as a basis for the rp...that there has been an explosion on coruscant followed by an ominous message and everyone is in a state of panic would be the bare bones of it. Unfortunately I have no knowledge of mass effect other than it is a game. This story unfortunately has been put on hold for a while so I dont expect my friends and I to work on it for a while which leaves a nice oppurtunity to flesh out how it would work in your minds. I'm willing to take ideas on what you feel would work better for star wars?

I'm just having a hard time breaking the Canonical history. Some of the events in your time line are hard for me to grasp. Maybe provide me with a starting point for your rp. When in the Timeline. Could we maybe instead introduce new characters to your new canon. So as to not step on the feet of your other collaborators so maybe a story line that has little to nothing to do with what you guys have been working on. I get the major conflict you are presenting but I need a little more to beginning brain storming.

Thats cool, perhaps the Mass Effect isn't the best idea for these forums. Sorry btw Riochi I shouldn't have tried hijacking your thread like that. Twas disrespectful.

And I agree with Animus, I am having a bit of a hard time figuring out where to start with this to make a CS as well.

It's perfectly fine refuge no harm done, as for a starting point on the timeline, I wanted to put the starting date at the time of the story plot; not sure if it is stated in the timeline already but I'll double check. Yes new custom characters are very welcome, I thought I specified that but if I didnt then my apologies so Feel free to create someone of youer own design to fit into the storyline I just thought it might have been an interesting Idea to see how people roleplayed our characters and I'll keep the option open for anyone who wants multiple characters.

[edit] the events of chaos theory take place in 531 ABY so that is when I'd like this to take place sorrounding the events of Chaos theory

i know this is a little late but if youre not too far into a plot have you ever heard of firefly? or serenity? its a great universe and the one thread that got started (but the gm had to quit) is not longer going. i loved it and had a lot of fun. its worth a try

I've never heard of firefly or serenity so I'm sure that if I tried to gm one of them I would completely butcher the story, I wasnt planning on doing something that has already been done with this rp...I do have an original storyline that would be my own persoanl adaptation of my friends, the only similarities would be the starting point, A massive ship has crashed on coruscant killing millions in an apparant terrorist attack, other than that my ideas deviate from his. I just thought it would be interesting to see if anyone wanted to rp as some of us but if no one wants too then of course they are free to make their own characters, I never said they couldn't from the beginning. Please if anyone is interested just know that my ideas are of my own creation and I'm more than willing to take advice

sure, My character Janon Vek is a jedi knight that has spent the last few years searching for his brother Kastor, the Sith lord Darth Vadion. The recent attack on coruscant has forced the hand of the jedi into action, while they frantically try to keep control of the corrupt central republic government, the Emporer and his advisors have begun to suspct the jedi of being behind the attack to impeach the current administration. It is only a matter of time before the republic declares outright war on the jedi leaving only a little time to find the true culprits behind this attack and what their intentions are. You are free to create just about any type of character, jedi, sith, republic or otherwise and they can have any sort of occupation, merchant, soldier, senator etc...

Being this is the Star Wars universe, and I am a nerd, I am obligated to figure out more specifics:

I take it this takes place near the time period of movies 1, 2 &3? You said all out war against the jedi, so considering Obi Wan, Luke, Laia, and Yoda are basically the only "jedi" left after order 66 is carried out. I guess this might also take place in the Old Republic time frame too being there were a lot of jedi then too.

I'll discuss my character soon.

Actually this is going to take place several centuries after the movies about 531 aby roughly, I need to double check on my home computer

EDIT: yes it starts in 531 ABY, the time in the republic where they still had an empire but it was more of a thing where the emporer is elected and such
