Time for a Sci-Fi RP!

"Welcome Professor," whispered that familiar female voice, in her usual seductive tone. "How are you?"

The Professor made no attempt at a reply. He knew it wouldn't matter anymore. Nothing did. He clicked on the icon on the screen that read 'Log.' A blank page rolled up in front of his eyes, and the typing began.

"The world has turn to shit. The Machine is dying. Soon, there will be no more Alphas, and Betas are only useful for manual labour. Humanity has nailed its own feet to the floor.

Personally, I blame the previous generations. If they had taken care of the planet, we wouldn't be in this mess, this God-awful mess. Speaking of which, where is God? The oh-so-divine creator should have at least hired an oh-so-divine-custodian."

He stopped typing. The arthritis in his hands was making this tough work. But it was necessary work. He continued.

"Nuclear power: that's where everything started. One leak is all it took, and now look where we are. It actually rhymes with 'look,' with and added 'ed.' Sex was useless after 'a little leak here and a little leak there.' Thank politicians for that information, now we can all sleep easily at night.

The Machine is dying. The only Machine that can create Alpha clones, the almost perfect replicas, is dying. Beta clones can only do so much before they die, Alphas can live an even longer life than regular humans. But now the Machine is dying. Soon, it will be as dead as the human race. There is nothing I can do; the plans for the Machine were destroyed long ago, so as not to allow more Machines being built... and ending up in the wrong hands."

The aged professor stood from his chair, and sighed. He picked up the ancient revolver that lay loaded on his desk. Soon after, everything went dark.

So, anyone interested? I'm expecting a lot of questions, so ask away. I didn't want to write too much too soon, as it might turn people away. So this is but a taste!

well...what exactlty is the storyline?

LunaMaria

Wow like a children of men thing with clones... I like... but how far way in the future.... 70, 80 years?

CandlestickJay
05/20/2007 11:24 AM

this could be cool, but can I have some more details?

Darthwedge
05/20/2007 11:27 AM

seriously, it sounds really cool. But you need to give more details

Honestly, I was going for vague.

It's about one hundred actually. The people need time to develop the right technology for the Machine.

Right now, I'm tired. I'll post more information tomorrow.

This is a really interesting concept, would we be playing humans, clones, or both? Either way, if I could get a little more info I'm definitly in :]

I'm going to take back what I said yesterday; it is not one hundred years in the future. This is the future of a fictional, and so far nameless, Earth-like planet.

You could play as either a human or an Alpha clone. Beta clones aren't all that great for advancing a storyline.

Nobody knows how exactly the Machine works, so it is nigh impossible to fix. It is the only place where Alpha clones can be created.

The government is severely crippled. This is due to the fact that it practically caused the nuclear disaster, and therefore a citizen's revolt.

While I'm here, I'll explain why I'm doing this RP. It is to explore the ethics of cloning and what humanity will do in its final days. It is also meant as a warning about the use of nuclear power, due to its dangers. Chaos Theory and The Butterfly Effect also factor in at a later stage.

People, if you would plaese ask specific questions, as opposed to just asking for details.

So explain to me more about these Alpha clones. How close are they to human? Do they have excessive attributes, like smarter, faster, etc? What about emotions? Are they like the clones/robots in iRobot?

-So i have kind of have an idea, how bout an attempt at making an omega clone ( aka super) whic requires mods to the machine which where stored on some kind of computers in of the "destroyed" ( i'm guessing) part of the world and a group of Alphas, Betas are sent along with a few humans.

-Maybe a quest to recouperate the brain of the original machine maker held by the government?

Sorry if this is to much but i just feel it going somewhere in this area

Also, i'm new so hi

Alpha clones are just that: clones. They are identical to humans, except for the fact that they are easier to genetically engineer post-"birth." These kinds of clones are often seen as emotionless, but in reality, they just aren't always sure how to express themselves. Sometimes, an anomaly in the original DNA can cause a defect in a clone, such as a disability. That makes them even closer to humans when you think about it.

Often enough, more than two sets of DNA are required to make a clone; usually about five or six.

Beta clones are the labourers of the world. They are a more recent attempt at cloning, by the humans and not the Machine. Their intelligence levels are often low, leading to their previously mentioned work.

The Machine itself is an ancient artefact, seemingly with a mind of its own. If there are DNA samples in its database and it is left unattended for a particularly long length of time, it will begin cloning. So far, this defies the understanding of the current humans.

Mmmkay, so is it safe to assume that the humans who created the Machine (assuming they were human?) were of a far more advanced society, and then something happened that destroyed them, and left the Machine behind.

Sorry, I'm just trying to get a grip on this world. I'd feel odd if I didn't have ANY clue what was going on. Think, Chewbacca in a Star Trek world.

Yeah, that's about the jist of it. If you need to know anything else, just ask.

Recko_glyph

Yeah, I really like this idea, but maybe you should give me a little more information on how far ahead we are in the future and why exactly we use clones instead of humans (are we infertile 0.o)

I really want to join to I'm thinking of maybe being a scientist or a historian type character, but for that I'll need information.

I've already explained this stuff. Humans are infertile, due to a nuclear disaster caused by politicians not really trying to do anything about a few leaks.

We are not on Earth, so it is hard to judge how far ahead we are. I suppose the technology in about one hundred Earth years in the future will suffice. Just no rayguns!

When do all of you participants want to begin? When is suitable?

I'd be interested in playing. Any time soon is fine by me.

Wouldn't mind joining in when it gets up and running, just post a character outline soon and I'll get on to making a character.

Zombie-Pop

I'm good with anytime you'd like to start. Would you like character bios first?

TheCritch

Yeah character outline would be nice and more storyline details please. This seems to have alot of potential.

I've run into a problem. I won't have time to do this now, as exam season is starting up. By the time they're over, I'm pretty sure people will have lost interest.

So, this is a melodramatic goodbye to Machine, the RP that never was.
