im interested to know if anyone would like a pirate rpg in relation to POTC. it would be based off of the general idea of the movie but it will be set before the first movie even takes place, the most popular choice of character...you know who it is, will be reserved for me, sorry. Let me know if you are interested

Shigetomo- another interest thread about a pirate RP just went up: do you not think it would make more sense to let that get off the ground first?

Usually if you have multiple threads on the one topic only one of them will really thrive.

And I won't be interested- I hate water, don't especially like pirates, and don't really like threads where pre-existing and well known characters are being played.

Shigetomo

so im guessing no one is interested

I didn't see the other pirates of the carribean thread...but oh well ill just keep looking, and oh btw i want to be someone like gibbs, read again someone LIKE gibbs. if its before potc 1 then hes still in the royal navy, so that wont work.

nanuk

I didn't see the other pirates of the carribean thread

It was another pirates thread, nothing to do with the film, but it's still similar enough that it could cause problems running the simultaneously.

adamsonite
06/01/2007 2:37 AM

I just don't see whats wrong with having 2 of the same topics, its not like theyd run out of things to roleplay about. Theyd still be different. I'm used to doing 12+ rps at a time and not have them inter-twine or get repetitive. On middle earth online there were hundreds of defend helms deep rps and we enjoyed them all. Thats what makes rping fun. Its not the same as middle earth, but it's still roleplaying. My favorite type of rping is no planning, anyone can join, 25 people into it, and having 5 different strands of the same rp. Because you could do a different thing in each thread...oh well...

nanuk
06/01/2007 10:01 AM

But this isn't the most active of forums.
If it was, there wouldn't be a problem with having multiple threads.

adamsonite
06/01/2007 11:26 AM

I see your point................well...i'm an idiot heh heh

I'm just mad because ever since the new company took over and re-did middle earth online as lotr online, the forums havent been moderated, so its hard to roleplay because it is littered with "JOIN OUR GUILD" spam threads. I havent had a decent rp since.

I would love to find a website that is like meo rping in its prime, but most of them are way too busy (*ahem* Gaiaonline *cough* *cough*)

Shigetomo
06/01/2007 4:33 PM

if i get some more interest ill start this one

nanuk
06/02/2007 3:28 AM

Like I said in another thread, one of the ways that'll get you partway to having people interested in your thread is to use decent English when posting it- if you don't use capitals or any kind of punctuation it doesn't give people confidence in your ability to run a good thread.

adamsonite
06/02/2007 9:32 AM

Capitals? Wow...people here are so serious...

nanuk
06/02/2007 11:24 AM

So what?

Am I to waste my time trying to create a decent character and write something of quality just so illiterate plebs can vomit something half-assedly back at me with no thought or effort whatsoever?

I think not.

It's disrespectful and insulting- and, moreover, is not just a matter of personal preference: clearly in the forum rules it says a good standard of English is expected. There's even a video about it.

I, for one, am tired of the dross that's been around here lately, and am not going to be silent about it any more- so if you have a problem with that, well, *insert something colourful*

Max
06/02/2007 11:37 AM

Damn it nanuk, I'm tired of your incessant need for everyone to put thought and imagination into their work, to care about what they do, and to write legibly coherently!

It's like you're a fuckin' teacher or something!

*ahem*

And in conclusion:

u r teh suxxorz! LAWL!!!1!!ROFLCOPTER!!one!!!!ZOMGROFLMAOBBQWTFuck!!!

And oh yeah, I'm Drizzt, and I pwn you. Bitch.

Well then let me spell it out...

Yes, my previous post is all sarcasm, and I am in complete concordance with nanuk's statements and overall general feelings.

Except during a certain time of the month.

EDIT: I couldn't find the HTML code...oh well...

You guys seem to think that rping is a proper form of english literary...its a bloody game an only to be fun...if one is having fun, one is doing it properly, there are no real rules of

how to roleplay.

Yes, one must have grammar to be able to read,

but the main point is to have fun. If you arent here to have fun, and you constantly nag

at people, telling them they are wrong, interrupting the topic, and labeling yourself as a

superior when we are all just in many ways, then one is wrong truly.

And there,

I

split

it

into

bloody

paragraphs,

and

spelled

properly!

There! See? Was that so hard?

Now if only we could work on that spacing...

Sorry I couldn't help myself. That was sarcasm, this is serious:

It's not 'just a game,' or at least it isn't to me. If you want to play a game, go on your X-Box. Role Playing is an art, and it takes patience and skill to learn. I'm not saying that I'm superior, because I have a lot to learn, and I know that you can do some things that I can't, or maybe know things that I don't: but you have a lot to learn as well. We all do. RPing isn't something you just blurb out, it's something you put a bit of yourself into, it's something you create, and when done properly can be just as amazing as the Mona Lisa (although I don't really like that painting...so the Sistine Chapel..I dunno...pick some art that you like).

That's what an RP is to me.

Very well said Max, and I for one agree with you wholeheartedly. Im tired of putting imagination and creativity into my stuff, and having stuff like this spit back at me.

Walks over to the warrior, and nods his head in respect. "Shall we ride to Helms deep for no apparent reason?"

The woodelf archer responded.."Yes I <3 LEGOLAS!!"

See, I would have gone with something like "if you have such a problem with the style of RPing favoured by most of the people here why don't you fuck off elsewhere?", but I suppose both of your ways of saying it were far more diplomatic and effective.

there are no real rules of

how to roleplay.

Can we start a 'very silly quotes' thread to put this in?

xXRathXx
06/02/2007 3:43 PM

AHEM, Nanuk, I'll be the thirteen year old to say it for you because I know you really wanna say it ^-^, Like everybody else!

If you have such a problem with the style of RPing favoured by most of the people here why don't you fuck off elsewhere? We enjoy our good grammar and spelling, and when you put it all together in a post with a little bit of skill, imagination, and spirit, it turns into a tasty roleplaying sandwich. Now, when you take bad grammar, horrible spelling, and smush it together with no originality, no skill, hardly any imagination, no effort, and a blatant disregard for the rules you get a mushy pile of slop that tastes like dog vomit and looks like goat shit.

The point is this, We like our tasty roleplay sammiches and we don't want any of that horrible gray mush! So be kind and feed the RPGC and it's members some roleplaying sammiches.

That was my most childish anology yet! ^-^

If only you were older... we could have tequila slammers to celebrate, lol.

Well said, my dear- but he posted in the SW forum saying he was going to bugger off because we're 'too formal', so no harm no foul.

Start storing up some bile for the next silly billy to come along.

Please read the newest SW messages, i apologized and everything. I dont like the gray mush that you said about. I like formality and properness (if thats a word lol), I just dont think of rping as an art, more of for fun. I agree with you in every way, but ive just had a bad week. What i meant by no real rules was that there are many ways to rp, AND THE WAY I SAID IT IT SOUNDED SILLY LOL oops caps, too tired to edit...Oh bugger im going to have to quote myself, please keep reading :)

Sorry bout my posts, i'm also sorry you misunderstood me...i was very angry when i replied, i will delete them when i'm not feeling really lazy.

I'm the kind of person that hates having people think bad about me. I dont get angry from insults, juts because i dont like to think i'm a bad person, i accept other people's opinions, and you guys are right.

I never was a hardcore roleplayer, but i got good at it, and i havent really done it in a while. I'm sorry to the other people and im sorry we got on a wrong foot.....although (quite honestly, and i hope im not sounding liek a whiney baby) the newb thing did bother me a little.

I can understand the rash (i forgot how to spell that word) thinking because of my flames (angry posts) and bc of the number of them...God i feel awful...I was 67 under in my till because of voids i didnt know about at work (KFC, im also a cook there), so i was pretty mad...i also may lose my job cause of it, though it wasnt entirely my fault.

To make a long and angry message short, I was simply not used to planning in the sense that you guys do. I know it is better to plan roleplays, but the old forum did not have a planning section and people got used to the "post a rp and hope someone likes it and replies" technique.

We posted bios before our first messages to keep from interrupting the flow and if a message wasnt replied to it was accepted that it was a bad rp and it was deleted.

I know you guys rp proper, but ive just had a bad week, and i'd really like to be forgiven and for this post to continue

PS: I'd also like not to be called a newb, it may be true, but I really don't like it, thanks, and sorry again

See. I agree with you, ive just ahd a bad week. Lets start over.

I'm adamsonite, how are you?

Newb is affectionate around here!

Honestly!

I don't know if you've ever been to Kerry or Cork but it's the equivalent to langer or mong- and it was more of a 'newb to the site' than to RPing (it was clear you were experienced at that).

And do you think if we didn't find our style of RPing fun we'd still be here?
We're not sadists, lol- a little extra planning means you're more likely to get immersed in the game, so it can be very satisfying. You'll end up loving it ;)

Thanks for explaining youself and shall now attempt to wipe part of yesterday from my memory (with a B12 deficiency it's not too difficult, lol).

Welcome, adamsonite! :P

adamsonite
06/03/2007 1:44 AM

Thanks so, so much

I was really angry when i posted the all caps post about someone calling me a newb in star wars forum...

i am now sad though, ive never been told off by a 13 year old like the guy that did on star wars. havent been that depressed in a long time. i wish people would calm down before posting.

its not that i dont put quality in my posts, I really try to, they must have mis-read my post. I said that i liked to post shorter, around 15 - 20 line posts (separated of course), and that i rp-ed without a planning forum (we petitioned for one, we really did). That's all I said. Of course our topics never lasted long, and weren't too deep. Thats why i like it here :)

Once again im sorry if i upset anyone.

Back to us pretending we just met...

Thanks for the introduction and the welcome. I used to post on an rp forum, but I posted wrong and i hope people would help me learn to do it right, from reading the posts i seem to have gotten the just of things here.

Don't be sad- Rath puts most of us to shame at one time or another. He's tenacious and fantastic.

i wish people would calm down before posting.

And you're including yourself in that, right? :P

I don't remember ever saying you didn't put quality in your posts- in fact, I remember saying the opposite in the SW thread (your character for Jay's Night at the Museum post looked really good), so I don't know where you got that idea- but, c'mon, get your character posted for the Funny thread and we'll stop hijacking Shigetomo's thread and go have fun and bond ;)

Well it seems like this little argument was actually started because i suck at grammer. For that I apologise and yes i agree with Max, Roleplaying is and art that those of us who are interested in learning must learn properly. I will attempt to work on my grammer if other people will show interest in this forum.

adamsonite
06/03/2007 11:14 AM

Lets agree to disagree.

I don't think that rping is an art. I think of it along the lines of sudoku, crossword, or something like that.

But we can all agree that for me, rping is a place to kick back and get away from the real world (thats also why i have WOW).

Of course that don't mean that i think less of it. It is a great skill and it expands creativity and imagination well. And should be taken seriously.

Now what about that pirates thread. I havent seen the other one, yet ive been looking.
How long ago was it? I'd think it would be okay to start another if it has been more than 10 days because by then the post will probably be dead.

What you think?

nanuk

It's the 'pirates of San Tosa' (? or something similar) - it's only just started in the general section.

Actually, it is "Seas of San Tosa", and yeah, I've already started it in General RP. If you want, adamsonite, you could join us. You'd still be RPing a Pirate, and you would be in a cool new world. That is, if you want to read the long-ass post I had to make for it.

Sorry to start a Pirates thread around the same time as you, but I guess mine had more appeal. See ya'll later.
