Based on 'A Walk On The Wild Side' (Cyberpunk) by Jonathon Turner and strongly influenced by Escape from New York / L.A. , I'm hoping for some interest in an RP based on the following idea. I won't be presetting any major plot or storyline, although I do have a few ideas, but I'm simply hoping for players to create appropriate characters and to develop our own plots within the set environment. Is anyone interested?


When Richard Night decided to create his own future city, he went all out to create a metropolis that even Fritz Lang would have been proud of. Planning to attract jobs and industry to the area, Night planned construction of five huge arcology domes in the south sector of Night City. These domes were to house the workers who built them in comfortable, corporate guarded apartments. Night reasoned, quite correctly, that business and other corporations would rush to move into this new safe heaven: the first truly corporate city in the world.

Night planned to use the services of Militech to enforce an aggressive policing policy that would keep crime in the domes to a minimum. Night's corporate police were making life difficult for the criminals who sough to run the city and began to stamp out organised crime.

The local Yakuza struck back. Hard. In a series of brutally effective attacks, they assassinated Night, his family, his major business partners, the head of Militech Night City Division and corrupted the computer files containing the future plans for the area - as well as the bank accounts that the construction workers were being paid from.

In a week, Night City the dream was gone, lost to the cold reality of Night City the nightmare.

The workers and their families were left unemployed and living in poor, unfinished housing they could hardly afford. The street gangs and criminals which had been kept out of the city by Night's troops flooded back in. Gangs roamed the streets, burning houses and destroying the domes, leaving only their shells. Anyone who wanted a piece of corporate pie made for the city. They were tearing it apart. Gangs and Nomad packs from all of the country came to join the party. Chaos reigned.

The government was forced to send in the military to what quickly became a battle for Night City. Street gangs and Nomads were fighting a desperate guerrilla war on their own turf and would not be so easily defeated. The government quickly decided the war was too costly to continue. The solution was a simple one, first used by the Chinese as far back as 206 BC. They built a wall.


The Wall is almost 60 ft high, has gun towers every 150 meters and is built from concrete and reinforced steel. The military stationed on the wall carry out a shoot on sight policy towards any unauthorized persons.


Gangs are the cornerstone of life in Night City. There are nearly thirty major gangs, each numbering a hundred or more. In addition there are various splinter groups, religious fanatics, ronin, and crazies too spaced to team up with anyone else.

Even though none of the arcology domes were more than half complete, the domes cover most of the south of the city and provide the inhabitants with some shelter. They also have several unusual side effects for those who live under them. Condensation builds up inside the 300 ft shells, causing more or less permanent rainfall. The exposed titanium and tungsten frames creates build-ups of static electricity, triggering occasional bursts of lightning above and below the domes. This sporadic lighting makes it extremely dangerous for any aircraft to fly low over the city.

The residents of Night City inhabit the burned out skyscrapers and office buildings that were left in the aftermath of the government invasion. The streets are blocked with wrecked cars, debris fallen from buildings and impromptu barricades thrown up by gangs to mark their turf. Paving stones have been torn up for use as barricades around buildings that serve as gang strongholds.

Buildings not used by gangs are stripped for electrical wiring, water piping, timber, plastic and anything else that could be used to reinforce or improve a stronghold. In addition, since money has little value within the city walls, the gangs use much of this stuff for use as barter items.

Power is no longer supplied to the city, and although some gangs have rigged generator systems to their strongholds, at night the city is mainly in darkness. The only light usually comes from the occasional muzzle flash of a weapon, bursts of lightning from the domes, or the searchlights of police watch towers from The Wall.

There is no sanitation. Food and clean water are in scare supply. Disease and malnutrition are common, although not present on a universal scale. Children are born straight onto the streets into lives of gang warfare, prostitution and drugs. A growing number have serious birth defects caused by the drug addiction of their parents.

Firefights rage among all this as each gang sees just have far they can push their neighbours. These battles are dirty, bloody, with no rules, no compromise, and no police to get in the way. There is often plenty of urban flotsam in the way, getting cut down in the process.

The workers originally brought to Night City, most of which had brought their entire families to what they hoped would be their new homes banded together against common enemies. It was obvious that when everything fell apart, they would be pushed together in a desperate effort to survive. Unfortunately many of these people were unable to escape the city, trapped by gangs on either side, they still reside there today.


When The Wall was built around the city, the government also sealed up the old Metro tunnels at their end. These tunnels have since become a major part of life in Night City. The pumps which prevented flooding in these tunnels have long since broken down from lack of power and maintenance. The tunnels have thus become the main source of fresh water since the rainfall under the domes is often polluted by chemicals picked up from the interior surface of the domes.

Gangs also use the tunnels as more easily defendable bases, but here there are some of the most established black market trading centres, as well as brothels and various other facilities of entertainment. People who live in the sewers and metro aren't exactly hygienic, therefore disease is most common amongst these groups of people.

[b]Personality:[/b] Rainer is a strong but quiet character who usually only speaks when he has something useful to say. He is the sort of guy who likes to remain in the background and is often forgotten about. Those who know him best consider him to be a reliable and trustworthy, but a bit of a loner. He is intelligent and practically minded, although not greatly educated. One of the strongest traits of his personality is his ability to remains calm and think clearly in a crisis.

[b]Background:[/b] Rainer grew up in an average lower middle class family and didn't particularly do very well at school. His first job was as an unskilled laborer on a building site where he showed a keen interest in learning to drive diggers and cranes. His talent for driving large machinery was excellent and he quickly became highly skilled and experienced in that area. When Rainer heard about Richard Night's mass recruitment of construction workers to build a futuristic city, like many others he jumped at the opportunity. Rainer was one of the very first workers to arrive at Night City and has been there ever since.

[b]Allegiance:[/b] The Roustabouts - The Roustabouts are a group of Richard Night's laborers and tradesman who were left behind, trapped within the city. With no hopes of a rescue, these people have been long since forgotten by the government and are presumed long since dead. Due to their presence from the beginning of the saga and their various skills, the Roustabouts have managed to secure one of the best and most well equipped stronghold within Night City which is positioned under one of the domes. The Roustabouts are less than 50 in number, which includes families with many women and children.

[b]Skills:[/b] Rainer can drive just about any ground based vehicle imaginable. He also has a decent mechanical knowledge of repairing and maintaining ground based vehicles and firearms, of which he has fairly accurate shooting skills.

This looks like a good time.
I don't need to know much about the Turner stuff, do I (other than apocalyptic-esque scenario and what Militech is...)?
Assuming that I don't...definitely interested. Do you want the character now, or later?

Some interest ha ha! (Looks like my shameless plug worked after all) :D

The idea is you don't really need to know anything other than what has already been specified. I've intentionally left some things quite vague to allow for players to be creative and invent their own aspects of the RP world, (also no one likes to be baffled by too much information from the beginning).

Take Militech as an example; I've been intentionally vague because they might never even feature in the RP depending on how it pans out. If however someone likes the idea of Militech then by all means feel free to add your own detail and even base a character around them.

Do you want the character now, or later

A character now would be ideal so that it gives me some idea of the direction players want to take things before I start up the actual RP thread. No rush though, I'm hoping we can get a couple more players involved before we start.

Deal. Here goes.

[b]Name:[/b] Nizreya Morgana. Niz for short; Reya if you're a client.
[b]Sex:[/b] Female
[b]Age:[/b] 24
[b]Height:[/b] 5'8"
[b]Weight:[/b] 127 lbs
[b]Physical Description:[/b] She is painstakingly thin, with sallow, olive-tone skin and strange green-grey eyes. Her hair is long and dark, poker straight. She has an affliction (from her longstanding drug addictions) that causes tremors and fevers occasionally. All this together (despite her actual age) makes her seem perpetually 17.
[b]Personality:[/b] She's generally quiet and passive, but prone to inexplicable fits of temper. She's also inordinately clever (some think she's some sort of empath) and often able to discern truths she should not be able to see. Those who know her view her as unpredictable, but a very useful ally - and a very skilled professional.
[b]Background:[/b] Nizreya's father was a Militech man - personal bodyguard by trade. He never came home from a shift on Night's Last Night.
Her mother took to the streets in the chaos that followed. She followed her husband a few months later, consumed by the drugs she had found to help her through the nights she'd spend "making ends meet." While her mother was still alive, Niz was often subject to unwelcome visits from the various dealers her mother owed - eventually, she too took up the trade, to take advantage of the small protection that being a paid professional offered her.
She was orphaned in her teens but stuck with prostitution, already heavily addicted to amphetamines thanks to some of her mother's 'friends.' She spent a lot of time as an 'indy' - without the protection of a brothel thanks to her already widespread reputation for violent mood swings.
She rose up the ranks when, in one of her fits (and probably high) she killed Benny Maktab, a notoriously cruel pimp trying to secure Nizreya's skills by force. The stories says the only thing she had on her at the time was a silk scarf.
[b]Allegiance:[/b] After Benny's death, Nizreya was taken on by Mama Starlight. She's now one of the senior girls at the Starlight Room - Mama's club by old Park Station in the Undercity. Mama is currently negotiating with some of the gangs in the city for protection. At the moment, Niz's skills - both professional and intellectual - are being applied almost exclusively to scoring them a good, safe deal with one of the more powerful syndicates.
[b]Skills:[/b] Nizreya's incredible seeming-vulnerability combined with her young beauty and grace makes her very good at her profession, as well as getting hold of her fixes. She can get under the skin of nearly every man she's ever met (and most women too). She's an incredible judge of character, good at anticipating other people's behavior and unstoppable at poker - when she can keep her attention focused on the game. And when she's angry... anything is a weapon and they're all a surprise - which makes them deadly.
Nizreya could be schizophrenic. Though, it could just be that people who call her "Niz" and people who call her "Reya" just know different versions of the same woman.
It would explain a lot, though.
[b]Inventory:[/b] Niz normally wears a one shoulder, blue tank top that stops just below her breasts paired with an assymetrical black skirt. She's wearing a number of bracelets and necklaces of varying material and quality (gifts from her patrons). She keeps a small switchblade that used to belong to her father sheathed around her left thigh and tops the outfit off with dirty black sneakers. For a belt, she uses a silk scarft that used to be crimson (and is now more of a grimy burgundy). Her most precious commodities are her body, her insight and her reputation (thanks in part to the dearly departed Mr. Maktab).

What an excellent and perfectly formed character. You've included just the right amount of background information to get us off the ground and make things interesting without going overboard. Perfect!

I'll leave it just a little while before I start up the actual thread because I think we may have another interested person creating their character (hopefully).

Kia, are you still up for this RP? I'm temporarily giving up on the fore mentioned person. We can either start it up and see if anyone joins in later, or we can call it quits now and looks for something with more interest. I'm easy either way.

Hi Rei. Long time no see. Actually I'd given up on this idea. Kia seems to have vanished and the current lack of interest has completely killed off my motivation. Feel free to hijack the idea if you like, but I don't much feel like GMing this at the moment. If not I might revive it at a later date.
