Apologies if we are only supposed to suggest ideas that we are prepared to GM, but I would like to play in a First Age setting serious players only who have read at least the Silmarillion.
The sorts of things that would interest me are:

The final days of Barahir
The establishment of the northern kingdoms
Living in Gondolin

The first has a fixed ending and will probably be quite short and bloody while the other two are more about politics and society. I am not so much concerned with forging new epics as with living out the story.

And there's. . what. . all of three people on these boards who are actually familiar with The Silmarillion and are also RPers?

I dig the idea of a First Age game. But you have to remember that there are a LOT of big names in the First Age, and sometimes it can seem really trite to have a character that knows or is related to a big name, but it seems just as trite to have no relation between established characters and RP characters (Go ahead, TRY to make a First Age Elf that is in NO way related to one of Tolkien's Elves).

But like I said, I dig the idea. I'd be in on it. I might even consider GMing it as well -- but I have my doubts it's going to gain sufficient interest.

I'd be most interested in a Gondolin RP. Although if I were to GM or play in such a game, I would insist on there being no film references, including Elves with curved swords wearing quasi-bronze lamellar or Men in plate armour.

'Ello, I'm back (yet again). You can never be rid of a Bard. Well, it seems like fate called me back at the exact right moment. I finished the Silmarillion not too long ago and have read almost all of Tolkien's works (man, what an f-ing genius). Furthermore, I've been looking for a Roleplaying Game with some depth to it and freedom from intricate rules, and what fits this decription more than a free-form Tolkien game? Anyways, I'm interested in joining, and hopefully this won't die off halfway through like most of the games I've been in. Oh, I fully agree with Damien on the references to the book. I'll keep an eye on this thread in case more players arrive,
Cheerio
