Howdy, thought since I'm new I would query an idea.

I've always been interested in the less action-intense roleplaying. I enjoy roleplaying as a simple character, to help along larger stories or larger characters. I'm trying to look for the best way to do that on a large community like this.

My ideas thus far are basically like, setting up something like a tavern or small-medieval shop type location with a tavern owner as the character. Other people roleplaying could use this setting to connect to their roleplaying stories and characters. But I don't mean have the tavern idea interject or mess with any other roleplaying thread.

Maybe when they have no current roleplaying going, they could visit the tavern thread (or however it works, need to read the guides ASAP!) and find something to do. Meet others, roleplaying as customers or wandering travellers stopping in. Maybe even meet other roleplayers and start a new roleplaying thread because of it!

I basically am just wondering if anyone has an idea on how I would go about setting up a more "community" or "social" roleplaying setting for myself that others could interact with, and which I could play a role in. Like I said, I enjoy being more of the off-characters that help the main story, rather than the action-packed characters most people go for.

Thanks for any help!

Interesting idea. I'll tag along if you can figure out how exactly to do it...

You're proposing a thread where characters can visit, more or less socially? Pre-established characters, from other threads? It really seems like it could work, to me. Then characters can even embark on their own quests together...

The only problem I see is the amount of people that would join, it could become extremely difficult to have a conversation. It would be easier as a chat room sort of situation, where conversations can happen without having to wait such a long time for the other person to post...

I don't know. It still is a great idea, definitely.

Yeah I know its a bit more chat-room geared, but seeing as this is a roleplaying forum I'm going to try and work or modify it to apply it to a forum environment. But your exactly right, almost like a social center for roleplayers to use their pre-established characters. Characters would have to be limited to more generic ones (no three headed dogs buying beer). They can always make up a new character simply for the Tavern idea.

I'll keep thinking about ways to apply it, but I don't know. Maybe I should stick with the chatroom play, but then where and how? IRC? Does this website or its affiliates have chatroom based roleplaying?

Thanks for all the help thus far!

I think its a great idea but there's also the problem that JawHun talked about but its still great.

I like your idea. It could be a good place for people to send characters who're done with whatever game they'd been in earlier, or to test out the "voice" of someone new. I would definitely hang out there, as I'm very fond of social RP.

If you're planning to start this thread/have started it already and I just haven't found it, please mail me a heads-up link? I would really appreciate it.
