Here is something that I wrote a few months ago and never got back around to. Anyone interested in turning it into an RP?

It is a beautiful day, is it not Thomas, the young man stated with a touch of sarcasm in his fair voice. Vincent sat atop his war horse, fully armored in plate and chain mail save for his head. The cool autumn breeze brushed lightly against his face and sent his dark brown hair wavering about in the air. His green and golden eyes stared somberly at the destruction that lay before him. Where now only charred wooden beams and blackened foundation stones could be found, a village had once stood proudly days earlier, its occupants no doubt living out their final days in peace.

Why do you think they have done this, Thomas? Vincent sighed and turned in his saddle, revealing the trepidation that lurked below his otherwise unemotional and withdrawn appearance. For the first time in years, Vincent reminded Thomas of the little boy whom he had watched grow up under the watchful tutelage of the Kings Court more so than the man he had so quickly become when he finally escaped that invisible prison.

Thomas smiled weakly, a poor attempt to hide his own emotions. He shifted uncomfortably in his saddle and quickly averted his gaze from the Princes. The elder knight stared downward, mailed hands tightly gripping the reigns of his mount.

There reasons are unclear to us at the moment, Sire, Thomas slowly replied, his voice quickly welling with unwelcome emotion. Vincent cast a sidelong glance at his advisor, noticing for the first time the passion that stirred beneath his old friend.

If you have further need of me, I will be in my tent, Thomas interjected before Vincent could respond. The knight swiftly turned his mount about and headed back to camp. Vincent nodded in silence as the hoof beats faded into the distance.

The Prince and second in line to the Kingdom of Arian dismounted and sat atop a grassy knoll overlooking the recent destruction. Vincent greeted the coming night in silence, staring upward as the sky slowly turned from hues of red to purple, the stars twinkling to life from their celestial hiding places, the moon a faint outline in the darkening sky. He had been fully greeted by the night before he finally remounted and spurred his war horse to return to camp.

---

Sleep came none too readily for Vincent, who tossed and turned on his cot throughout much of the night. Occasionally, his dreams would linger on the pursuit and hopeful battle that would commence on the morrow, but more often than not, he was haunted by complete darkness. A lone robed figure, clad all in black with an impenetrable cowl stalked him throughout the darkness, hands extended revealing a skeletal hand, fingers stretching outward seeking to grab a hold of Vincent.

These were the dreams that left Vincent breathless, heart pounding as he jolted into awareness to realize there was nothing there. Continually, he found himself sweating, the sheets sticking relentlessly to his perspiring body. The apparition visited him no longer and Vincent drifted off into the slumber he had long been seeking, unaware of the events that were transpiring outside of his world.

Let's wait to see if anyone else is interested.

*Notes*

*Limited magic use (If you are going to use a magic character ask me about it first.)
*Humans are the only race (However, if you must play another race and have good reason, we may be able to work something out.)

*Ideas are welcome.

Huh...I want to read the rest of the story :).

It does not really give me any ideas, just questions about the world around it. I am curious as to whether the army that destroyed the village is a mundane one or whatever is giving Vincent the dreams. I am also curious about the balance of power in this world. Is Arian the dominating force, does it have bitter enemies, etc. In any case, it looks interesting.

It is a small scouting/raiding party for a larger host. It's basically just testing out the defenses.

Is Arian the dominating force, does it have bitter enemies,

For the most part, Arian is the only civilized kingdom known to them. There are other continents but they have not been explored as of yet and little is known of them. There are nomadic peoples on the outskirts of Arian.

whatever is giving Vincent the dreams.

Yeah, there are a lot of stuff put into mystery. I totally agree with benjamin. I wish that you could expand your setting a bit more. Now, i thought it was a very well written piece of work but...

What type of setting are you using? How much magic do you intend there to be? If a lot, you might want to add some magic towers, fortresses made by nature, glass walls for protection.

As for the human armies, what is their level of technology? Sword and shield? Huge ballistics? Has this civilization advanced to the point of gunpowder? It'd be interesting, I think, if we had a story in which elves competed with humans, whereas human technology advanced beyond elven magic.

From your post, I wonder if there might be two battlegrounds, one in the real world and the other in the "dreamworld". Unlikely, but the real world battles could hinge on the information gathered in the dreamworld.

From the looks of it, this rpg could be based on players who control the kings of opposite nations. In otherwords, we don't have to be on the same team.

correction: not "nations", for example, another player could control the band that just sacked one of your villages, etc

Very limited magic.

Mostly sword and shield. Infantry. Medieval stuff.

I don't really want elves and magic in this. However, I am sure that your idea would generate interest with other players and I say you pursue it in another thread.

There could be a dreamworld in which events take place but it would have very little outcome on the real world.

This is a good idea but I do not want this to become a battleground RP. It is more for plot, storyline and character development.

well, the reason why i asked about magic is because you used this "invisible prison" idea which I thought was very odd...

well, anyway, tell me how it turns out. I'm interested in joining, but i'm a little unsure how we'd play. For example, how can other players contribute to the storyline? do we just add along? How do player's characters relate to each other?

And i didn't mean we'd have a pure battleground rpg... just that it seems to me that there's just not enough conflict for other players for good plot and character development on their part... are we all on the same side? if we are, is it going to be one of those follow me and we'll kill while exploring our inner sides - type-of-things?

also, are other players allowed to be the same status as you or is it only you who is allowed to be "crown-prince"?

It was just a figure of speech about his childhood.

How do player's characters relate to each other?

Companions.

Hahaha. No, we aren't going to get "emo" on each other.

No one has to be anyone in the already written story. It is just an opening and an idea. If whoever decides to join wishes to follow those characters then we will. However, if new, lower level, characters are wanted then it will happen.

In my past RP, What it is to Burn, I played a sort of DM that controlled all of the NPCs, but no PC. However, I would like to participate with a character in this one.

As for storyline, I would like to be in control for the most part so it does not stray too far and become uninteresting. This does not in any way limit what you will be able to contribute. If you propose to go hiking (in character), and the rest of us agree (IC), then by jolly we will go hiking. If you would like us to get ambushed by a group of scantily clad women, then so be it, just keep it realistic. :-P

I will probably be offering story line advances, such as "Should we go to such and such" but I do not wish for others to take over the story. Think of it as an Elder Scrolls game in which you can continue the main quest at any time or go off on your own mini-adventures. I find that when too many people contribute to the main story line it becomes too chaotic and uninteresting.

You've caught my attention now, Exile. ;)

No seriously, that was a good little piece of writing (as usual). I've enjoyed roleplaying with you in the past so I may well be interested in taking part. I'll have to warn you though, I'm already running two other threads so I'd probably be looking for a minor role for now.

Good luck with getting this thing off the ground.

If you guys want to post a character that would be great. Get it posted and I will try to help you out if it doesn't fit the setting.

Any preference as to the storyline (following the Prince or creating a new one with lower prestiged characters)?

I have no preference concerning storyline...since you asked. In fact, I think I have a character in mind that would fit either. Something like a minor officer, in the army because he was a noble's sixth son, or something along those lines. Could distinguish himself in some way if the prince storyline goes (or be of higher birth), and could either become disgraced or remain unnoticed should the lower prestige story be decided upon.

Sounds good.
