I am considering starting a new thread based off of Mercedes Lackey's Heralds Of Valdimar books. I'm looking for those interested first, then see if we can figure out a plotline and such.

I was thinking of setting it for after the Mage Storm trilogy....*shrug*

Deep into the stony hills
Miles from town or hold
A troop of guards comes riding
With a lady and her gold
She rides bemused among them
Shrouded in her cloak of fur
Companioned by a maiden
And a toothless sated cur

Three things see not end
A flower blighted ere it bloom
A message that miscarries
And a journey that is doomed

One among the guardsmen
Has a shifting restless eye
And as they ride he scans the hills
That rise against the skies
He wears both sword and jewels
Worth more than he could afford
And hidden in his baggage
Is a heavy secret horde

Of three things be wary of
A feather on a cat
The shepherd eating mutton
And the guardsman that is fat

Little does the lady care
What all the guardsmen know
That bandits ambush caravans
That on these trade roads go
In spite of tricks and clever traps
And all that men can do
The brigands seem to always sense
Which trains are false or true

Three things are most perilous
The shape that walks behind
The ice that will not hold you
And the spy you cannot find

From ambush bandits screaming
Charge the pack train and its prize
And all but four within the trade
Are taken by surprise
And all but four are cut down
As a woodsman fells a log
The guardsmen and the lady
And the maiden and the dog

Three things hold a secret
Lady riding in a dream
The dog that sounds no warning
And the maiden who does not scream

Then off the lady pulls her cloak
And armor she is clad
Her sword is out and ready and
Her eyes are fierce and glad
The maiden makes a gesture and
The dog's a cur no more
A wolf, sword maid and sorceress
Now face the bandit horde

Three things never anger
Or you will not live for long
A wolf with cubs
A man with power
And a women's sense of wrong

The lady and her sister
By a single trader lone
Were hired out to try to lay
A trap all of their own
And no one knew their plan except
The two who rode that day
For what you do not know
You cannot ever give away

Three things is its better part
That only two should know
For treasure hides who shares your bed
And how to catch your foe

The bandits growl a challenge
And the lady only grins
The sorceress bows mockingly
And them the fight begins
When it ends there's only four
Left standing from the horde
The witch the wolf the traitor
And the women with the sword

Three things never trust in
A maiden sworn is pure
The vows a kings has given
And the ambush that is sure

They strip the traitor naked
And then whip him on his way
And to the barren hill sides like
The folk he used to slay
And what of all the maidens
That this bandit raped and slew
So as revenge the sorceress
Makes him a women too

Three things trust above all else
The horse on which you ride
The beast that guards your sleeping
And your shield mate at your side

This is the Filk songs written by Mercedes Lackey to accompany many of her stories (actually probably all of them....) just figured I'd share... ;)

I wish I'd been able to get further into Lackey's writing. It's been so long that I don't even remember which books I've read that are just hers. I love and have the Mage Wars series, but I don't think that would help me here. I need to find a better library.

meh, it could help you with the ideas of the magic settings and such, and you're familiar with the critters of the setting/world.... *shrug* up to you :)

That all depends. Are we talking hertasi and kyree and such, or was that just Urtho's peoples and irrelevant to where you wanted to go.

01/07/2006 5:27 AM

Kyree and Hertasi, yes, as I'm using a race of people decended from Urtho's people, the Teyledras, or commonly known as the "hawkbrothers"

01/07/2006 11:57 AM

Well then, I guess you can concider me interested. Hopefully I'm not the only one.

01/08/2006 6:50 AM

well actually you are at the moment.... the story was already started... "Heralds' Lamnent" in the General RP forums.

01/10/2006 8:27 PM

Not the only one.. just the only one around just then... :P

Heya Kalia... hoping to get back into things... wondering what you have planned for this and for Witch's Wheel. Look forward to both of them.

well this one will be a bit of a spinn off from the Owl Knight trilogy, and a bit from the last story we attempted...

as for Witches Wheel, I'll be working on it again soon :D

Cool, cool...

as for Witches Wheel, I'll be working on it again soon :D

Yayness! :D

Unfortunately, although the author has her own section at barnes and noble, the library here in Vichy carries none of her works. :(

So perhaps I should turn my attention to the works I know, like Feist and Robin Hobb. Perhaps I can start something in that area? ;)

(I have tried to get a star trek rp off the ground, but there is little demand for it.)

You'll have to go on this one without me, Kalia.

01/11/2006 1:12 PM

woohoo... are ya back Caelin? been worried about ya...

01/23/2006 11:51 AM

I was worried too, computer is in the shop now after the mainboard died on me, 10 gigs of 3D art data gone and probably having to reinstall the entire thing once I get it back, as changing the mainboard generally means they run a full system recovery. :(

On the bright side, i'm soon upping my connection from a 2Mb DSL to one of 8Mb a sec, so this will definately be improving. Not to mention that the comp will get extra mem (1 gig added) and an external HDD will be next. (250Gb)
