Logan rode on into the coming dark. It had been a couple days since he left Virginia, unwilling to stay with his pack, his family. It wasn't safe anymore. A couple of the younger members, one of them a good friend, had broken the ban. They had eaten human flesh. Noone he was aware of had started hunting them, but it wouldn't have been much longer. Someone always figured it out. It had happened in Louisiana, and even back in France and Germany, which had driven many packs to the new world. The pack had delt with the offenders, but they had lived in Virginia for decades. There were too many ties for someone to follow. So here he was, rolling down the road on his big black Harley Indian. He had watched the cities turn to fields, the fields to mountains, and was now roaring through the forests of Vermont. He didn't see signs of the town untill he was right on top of it.
It wasn't very big, but it would be a place to stop for the night. It wouldn't have been his first night of sleeping under the stars, but he wanted a bed, and a bath. He hoped that there would be some sort of inn or motel. There was a bar, at least. That was always a good place to start.
He pulled his Harley into the lot and shut off the engine. Some of the lights were blown outside and it looked run down, but it would suffice. He left his bag on the bike as he crawled off, his short brown hair barely moving in the gentle breeze. He strolled up to the door and let himself in.

"Hey, Mikel! When are you going to get your ass in gear and change those bulbs out there?"
Nikki was in a foul mood tonight. There had been nasty rumors of a rogue pack hunting humans. It disturbed the female lycan, and she hoped that it wouldn't cause anyone in town to start up another werewolf hunt. The last thing she and her pack needed was to be rooted up again. Especially with some of the female members carrying younlings.
The door opened, and Nikki looked up from her account books, brushing her long auburn colored hair out of the way so she could see who was entering. She knew her bar didn't look like much from the outside, but inside is was nice. Cozy. Almost like a den. The thought caused a brief smile to cross her face. Truth be told, for some of the members of her pack, the bar was their den.
She studied the man as he entered the building. Short hair, somewhat good looking, and definitely not human. She could smell it on him. Not only was he lycan, but he was an outsider. Straightening, she smiled at the newcomer. If he was a stray looking for a home, she might consider taking him in.
"Hey there," she said. "You look like you could use a drink. What'll it be?"
06/08/2005 12:36 PM
The lupine musk hit him as soon as he entered the bar. It was stronger than stench of the bathroom. There weren't that many in there, but there were a few humans that were oblivious to it all. As he looked around he realized that the outside appearance had betrayed the interior. It was very cozy and it had a feel of being home. There were personal touches all over.
He finally looked over to the woman that was asking what he wanted to drink. She had been huddled over books and papers, but that wasn't surprising. Many of his kind had businesses. It was a good way to support the pack and keep everything close within the family. But her eyes trapped him. The blue and the green blended together, ensnaring him. He stepped forward and tried not to stumble over his words.
Staring straight into her eyes he said, his voice a little rough, "Sure, I'll take a shot of whiskey and a lager, what ever kind you have on hand."
06/10/2005 3:14 PM
Nikki stared back at the stranger, letting him know that she wasn't going to be intimidated by a newcomer. Nodding slightly, feeling her message had gotten through, she turned her head slightly toward the back.
"Mikel!" she yelled. "Bring up a mug of the good stuff!"
"What good stuff?"
"The stuff that we bring out for the special customers," Nikki called out, a slight growl in her voice. Mikel looked out at her from the back room, took one look at the man at the bar, and hurried away again. Nikki turned to her customer, and smiled, showing all her perfect teeth.
She ducked down, grabbed a bottle of Bushmills, and a shot glass. In one seemingly fluid motion, she slammed the glass down, and poured the shot. She handed the man his shot, and put the bottle away. When she straightened up again, Mikel was standing behind her, a mug in his hand.
"Here you go," she said, pushing the mug towards the stranger. "No charge. It's on the house. And if you need a place to stay, we have plenty of rooms available."
She looked at her customer, giving her words time to sink in.
06/11/2005 2:28 AM
Logan was surprised again. She didn't seem wary of him even though he knew that he must look gruff from his days of riding.
*Maybe the news hasn't reached this far north yet.*
"Thanks," he said as he took the shot. He downed it and slapped the glass back on the bar. He picked up the mug and told her, "Yeah, I could use a room. Maybe for a few days, maybe longer. If I find a reason to stay," he looked Nikki over, "I just might." He took a long swig from the mug.
The alcohol had covered the smell, but the coppery taste was instantly evident, even with the strong taste of the beer. The blood laced beer was something he wasn't used to, but he liked it. A few members of his former pack had worked one of the local bars, but none had owned it, so it wasn't something that was readily availible. He took another long swig.
"The name's Logan, Logan Richards." He offered his empty hand.
06/15/2005 3:04 PM
"Nikki," the female lycan said, shaking the proffered hand. "We'll be closing up soon. Mikel will get you a room ready in the meantime. But, before you can go off and get some sleep, I think you and I will need to have a little...talk."
She left Logan at the bar, gathered her books up, and went into the back room. He seemed a little nervous, and nervous fellows wasn't something Nikki liked in particular. As soon as the rest of the bar cleared out, she'd talk to him about where he came from. If she was going to let a stranger stay in her den, she needed to know more about him.
06/16/2005 9:58 AM
Logan nodded as she walked away. He sat down on one of the tall padded stool's to wait, and to think, while he finished off his drink. He had an idea of what was coming.
*Perhaps the news has hit up here. I might not be staying too long after all. If she doesn't believe me...*
His thoughts trailed away into the not so distant past, and then to dreams of the centuries before. He had often longed for the old days when packs were as large as the dark forests would allow. Back then, a pack could run for miles and see no signs of human life. The world was largly oblivious, and his kind were not so hunted or hated.
He was so lost in his thoughts that when Nikki came back, he hadn't even noticed.
08/26/2005 10:32 AM
Nikki walked up to Logan and placed her hands on the bar in front of him. All the humans had cleared out. Now all that was left were a few members of her pack. She looked out into the main room, and nodded at them. They were to remain where they were unless trouble broke out.
"So," she said, "where do you come from? And why are you running away from your old pack?"
08/26/2005 11:11 AM
Logan jumped, as much from the surprise of Nikki appearing in front of him as from the question she asked. He thought the question over before answering, making sure of what he wanted to say. He kept his shoulders from droping before he spoke.
"I've come north from Virginia. My pack was leaderless and in disaray." He paused, unceratain of how much to tell her. One look at Nikki showed him that she wouldn't put up with anything less then the truth. He wondered how fast he would have to be back on the road. "The pack had lived in Louisiana for more than a hundred years before we were driven to Virginia. We thought that maybe we had left our problems behind us, but we didn't. One of my age mates was involved with a rouge that had blood on his hands, human blood. We were in Virginia less than a year before killing started there as well. I fled on my own, fearing for my life. It doesn't take long before someone puts two and two together, and then we are no longer the hunters. I wasn't sure if the forbiden hunger would ever leave the pack."
Logan let his words sink in, waiting for the judgement that he was sure was coming. He was certain that he would be on the road within an hour.
08/26/2005 1:56 PM
Christian opened the door silently and stepped into the room, he nodded slightly to the packmembers and Nikki. He closed the door with a soft click and leaned on the wall next to it.
He looked at the newcomer, and the first thing he noticed was the tension. He slipped his hands in the pockets of his jacket and watched with half closed eyes.
09/13/2005 7:45 AM
Nikki noticed Christian walk in, and acknowledged his presence. She looked at Logan and sighed. So he was from the rogue pack. Under normal circumstances she'd let him be on his way, but these weren't normal circumstances.
"You seem like a decent fellow," she told him. "Follow me, and I'll show you to your room."
She looked over at Chrisitan again, and nodded at him.
"Keep an eye on things out here," she said. She walked out from behind the counter, and led Logan out of the room, and up a flight of stairs. Most of the rooms were empty, but the she-wolf didn't want the newcomer to have a room so close to the main part of the building. She walked to the end of the hall, where there was a small, empty room in the corner, facing the east.
"This can be your room for as long as you like," she stated. "And I hope that it stays your room for a long time."
09/15/2005 3:17 AM
It was hard for Logan not to outwardly show the relief that washed over him. Not only was Nikki giving him a room, but inviting him to stay as well. It meant that he would probably have at least a few days to rest if nothing else. He couldn't help feel a slight pang of suspition.
She could just prefer to know where I am. I know I'd rather have a threat in sight than lurking in the darkness. Not that I blame her. Who wouldn't be worried about someone like me coming around with my story?
The room was not all that extravagant, but it suited him just fine. It had the two things he wanted most at the time, a shower and a bed. Logan didn't bother with getting his saddlebags. Anything of real importance he had with him already.
"The room will be fine, thank you." He paused, and let the thought drop. He didn't want to seem overly enthusiastic.
After Nikki left, he stripped down and jumped into the shower, letting the water wash away the dirt and grime as well s some of his worries. When he was done, her scent was still lingering throughout the room.
09/20/2005 8:12 AM
Nikki let her thoughts run their course as she walked back down into the main room. She had a very good feeling that he was trying to escape the rogue pack. If that was the case, then he could be used as an ally. She looked up at the members in the bar.
"Mikel, Christian, I want you guys to inform the rest of the pack that there is to be a meeting tomorrow night. Here. And it'll be with Logan. We need information, and it's information that only he has right now."
Mikel looked at Nikki, a quizzical expression on his face.
"Why here?" he asked. "Why not in the clearing?"
"Because I don't want this to be a formal meeting," she snapped at him, a low growl emphasizing her words. Mikel nodded meekly and looked away.
"Any other questions?" she asked, looking around the room.
09/20/2005 4:41 PM
Meia opened the door and closed it gently, making sure to not make her entrance noticable. Her body stinged as the coldness of her body and the warmth of the room seemed to battle inside of her.
She pulled her hair tie from the end of her braid and dismantled it. Her fingers raced through her long hair as she started to braid it once more. A good run always lifted her spirits and refeshed her. Her body was warm once again, but it never reached to her hands.
She made her way through the running children and managed to seat herself at the bar. Meia raised a perfectly thin eyebrow at Nikki as she announce if any one has any questions.
"A cup of coffe would suit me well.", she said at the bartender in a low voice.
She stared at Nikki for while as the main room settle down a bit. She wondered if her announcement had anything to do with that new harley outside.
"What's going on, Nikki?" she said taking sips of her coffee. Nikki answered her question as she explained about the arrival of a stranger. Meia felt an odd feeling race up her body, giving her chills even in the warmness of the room.
09/27/2005 8:23 AM
"Come with me," Nikki told Meia. She led the other woman into the back room. She looked her straight in the eye, reasserting her dominance over the lesser pack member.
"I've got a task for you," she said softly. "Make sure you do it well, otherwise there will be hell to pay."
Nikki told the other woman her chore: Watch over Logan anytime he wasn't with Nikki herself. She wanted to make sure nothing happened to the stranger. Not until they knew everything there was to know about him. She trusted Meia to carry out her task, even if she was a bit insubordinate at times.
"You don't need to worry about him when he's with me. We both know what will happen should anyone challenge him in my presence," Nikki finished.
The alpha female turned from her pack mate and went back to the main room. She noticed Mikel sulking in a corner, obviously displeased about being reprimanded, even in the slightest way. He looked up at Nikki, and quickly looked down again. There was no way he was going to even look like he was challenging her.
Nikki tilted her head slightly, and looked at the rest of the pack. There wasn't a single member in the room who didn't know about Mikel's true feelings towards Nikki. He wanted her for his mate. But he, and everyone else, knew that there was no way in hell that Nikki would ever let that happen. She felt him to be weaker than her, and had proven it on more than one occasion. True, she should probably find herself a mate, some day. But until she found someone worthy of her, she'd remain unmated.
"Everyone, that's all," she said. "Christian, Mikel, you know what to do. We'll meet here tomorrow night. All of us. The stranger included."
09/29/2005 4:49 PM
Meia nodded her head in understandment as Nikki left the room. She followed a few minutes later. So, Nikki's annoncement as about the harley outside, apparently there was a new stranger here. Meia set her coffee down in a nearby table as a few kids tugged at her hands. She would always tell them stories she had learned from other towns and this week was about an unwanted villager. Meia pushed them aside as the went back groaning.
She headed to the strangers room. Atfer all she need to know what he looked like, curiosity always struck her. She licked her lips as she knocked on the door. She heard footsteps and wondered why he was here. At soem point he had to have once belonged to a pack. Determined to do her task she waited patiently as her mind swimmed with thoughts.

09/29/2005 8:33 PM
Lost in his thoughts, Logan hadn't noticed that someone was approaching his room. The knock came as somewhat of a surprise to him.
I'll have to pay more attention than this, at least untill I know what to expect.
He was still a little wet and only in his towel, but he went to the door anyway, thinking that perhaps Nikki forgot to mention something. He thought that maybe he could show her something she might like. Logan wouldn't really have minded, even though he didn't think anything substantial would come of it. When he opened the door, he was surprised to see that it was a different woman entirely. It could only mean that word of his arrival was spreading already.
She was also quite attractive, if for different reasons. Her long hair flowing down around her supple curves. Her eyes, flashing red and gold, captured him. He extended his hand to her.
"Logan Richards," was all he offered to her. He might be a little lonely, but he wasn't a fool, not even for a pretty face.
09/30/2005 9:18 AM
Nikki watched as the inn emptied out. Mikel gave her one last look before leaving. Nikki ignored him, her attention divided between closing up, and wondering where Meia was. She knew the other woman had come from the back room. The lycan had not only heard her, but the coffee cup Meia had been carrying was on the counter as well.
Nikki sighed, locking the door after the last member had left. She had a pretty good idea as to where Meia was. Turning, Nikki headed towards Logan's room. Sure enough, there was Meia.
"Shake his hand, Meia," Nikki ordered. "After all, he might as well know your first name, considering the fact that you and I are going to be spending some time with him."
Me more than you, Nikki added silently. She would give Meia the chance to introduce herself to Logan, and then the lower wolf would be shown the door. Once alone, Nikki planned to tell Logan about the bodyguard situation. But until after Meia was gone.
10/01/2005 2:11 PM
Meia's breathing stopped at the sight of the stranger in a towel. She stepped back and blushed as he took out his hand towards her. She kept one heand close to her chest, and the other clentched to her side. She could feel her nails cave into her skin, but ignored the pain. She was more worried about hiding the rednes on her face, being pale didn't help in the least. The voice of Nikki brought her back to reality as her body jumped from the sudden arrival.
"Meia Adir," Meia said as she uncletched her fists and shook Logan's hand. "Pleasure to meet you."
She pushed her hair out of her eyes and smiled. Then turned to face Nikki, an odd look in her eyes. Meia bit her lower lip and headed back to the main room, guessing Nikki needed to talk with Logan. She did what she had came here for and was satisfied. The image of the Logan was still in her head and she silently chuckled to herself.

"I'll be right back," Nikki said to Logan as she walked after Meia. Nikki was hit with the strong scent of lust coming from Meia's direction. Growling to herself, she walked to the front door and opened it without a word. She gave Meia a look as she let her out.
"I'll send for you when I need you," Nikki said as Meia walked out. Sighing, she closed and dead bolted the door before Meia could reply. She shook herself roughly, like she had water on her, and cracked her neck before going back upstairs. She wasn't sure why, but for some reason she was unsettled by the way Meia had been staring at Logan.
"I'm sorry about that," Nikki told him when she returned. "I thought that it would be best if you had a companion during the times I'm not with you. That was her."
Nikki frowned, unsure why she felt a need to explain things to this stranger. She sighed again, and shook her head.
"I'm sure you understand our situation," Nikki continued. "These are nervous times, and we not only need to watch out for interlopers and ourselves, but we also have to protect the unsuspecting humans we co-exist with."
10/03/2005 10:44 PM
Logan barely refrained from a chuckle at getting Meia's reaction. It was everything he would have wanted, had it been Nikki knocking. Even so, He was amused, somthing he hadn't felt in a long time.
Nikki's surprise return had shaken Meia back to reality, but left no time to talk as Meia was quickly dismissed. When Nikki followed, it gave him plenty of time to think it over.
She'd being territorial with me. That could be good or bad. I have to find out what she wants from me. Perhaps Meia could tell me. It would explain why Nikki didn't want her there.
This time, Logan heard the lighter feminine steps coming and could smell that it was Nikki. He listened to her apology and smiled at her frown when she wasn't looking. It seemed to him that her sending Meia away could only mean one thing. He let her finish and put a crooning rumble in his voice when he replied.
"Yeah, I understand what you mean. Do you want to come in and, talk, about it?"
10/05/2005 3:37 PM
"What do you think there is to talk about?" Nikki asked, stepping into the room. She grabbed a chair and dragged it over next to the window. It was a moonless night-no one would be forced into a change until the next full moon.
I wonder what Logan looks like in his fur? she thought as she sat down into the chair. She looked over at him. He was a good looking man. She had a feeling he was even better in fur.
"Actually, there is something I would like to talk to you about," Nikki said. "I want to know about your pack. I've heard some disturbing rumors about wild beasts attacking people in Virginia. You wouldn't happen to know anything about that would you?"
Nikki stared hard at Logan, her eyes starting to switch to their lycan color.
"And I want the truth from you, considering the risk I've taken with inviting you to stay here."
10/10/2005 5:39 PM
Logan gave a disappointed sigh and sat on the edge of the bed. A drop of water tickled it's way down his back. He tried to ignore it as he gathered his thoughts.
"Well, I gave you the general story, so I can only guess that you would want specifics. I'll start with why we were in the shape that we were in. It begins in Georgia, where our pack primarily supported itself by running an inn. One of our younglings revealed himself to his human girlfriend. When she panicked, he killed her, and a few of the other students saw him changing back. While he was imprisoned, a few of his age-mates killed another human to try and prove that there was a wild animal to blame and our 'family' lawyer pointed out that it was just silly that a man could turn into an animal, which ultimately got him released."
"He was, by our laws, killed for endagering the pack, and the other set to face the Trail of Teeth. While proven innocent, the sheriff and several others belived the story of the teens and set fire to our inn and our homes. It was in that fire that our pack leader was lost. He was in the inn saving others when the support beams gave way."
"It was to Virginia we headed, were we had some family. In the following year, two members of our pack started a killing spree. One was one of the youger males that killed to free thier friend, the other an older female that sleeping with him. It was all to target the daughter of our former leader, whom had proven herself queen bitch in the Rite of Combat. Fearing another wolf hunt, I've struck out on my own, hoping to leave all that had happened behind me."
"Which has brought me here. It may turn out to be only a short stop, it may become home. I certainly wouldn't have dreamed of finding a hidden pack."
Logan had watched Nikki as he told his tale. The fact that her expression had changed much gave him hope that he had been believed. "Does that tell you all that you require for now?"
10/13/2005 8:26 AM
"Yes, it does," Nikki said as she stood up. She looked outside, and noticed a change in the light quality. "We need to get some sleep. It'll be day soon."
As Nikki was looking outside, she thought she noticed some movement below the window. She looked again, but saw nothing out of the ordinary. Shaking her head, she walked over to the door, and looked back at Logan as she opened it.
"I'll be downstairs for a little while. I still need to clean up and turn off all the lights. If there's anything you need, don't hesitate to come down and let me know."
Nikki smiled briefly and walked out, shutting the door behind her. It was easy to see why women would be attracted to him. She shrugged the thought away as she made her way downstairs into the bar. As she was cleaning, she heard a thump on the tavern's door. The lycan ignored it. She heard many similar noises almost every night. The first couple of times it had happened, she had looked outside, only to find a drunk passed out, using her home as a temporary resting spot.
Nikki finished cleaning up, and turned off the lights downstairs. She inhaled deeply once, and thought she caught the scent of blood in the air. It was fairly faint from where she was standing, so she attributed it to the normal smells of her bar. Yawning, the she-wolf went upstairs to her own room, stripped down to her underwear, put on her favorite tank top, and went to bed.
10/13/2005 6:00 PM
Meia could not sleep, even if she attempted to it would be useless. She pushed the covers off of her and headed toward her window. Out side the rays of the sun were barely visable, but where sure to spring into the sky in a few hours or so.
She sighed deeply as she unlocked her window and pushed it outward, a blast of cold air made the hairs on her body stand up. A curious sensation ran through her as her long black hair flowed behind her, a strand invading her face once or twice. Her gold, red eyes scanned the heavens, a few faint stars could be seen.
She grinned as she heard a few snors from her fellow lycan's room. Meia's mind left her body, as it had done so may times, as she consumed herself in the layers of the sky. A lound thud soon filled her ears, surprised, she took a step back and scanned her surroundings.
A mutt came to view, it staggered and managed to tip over a few trash cans. She shook her head in disaproval, but she knew that it wasn't the cause of the thud. She shrugged her shoulders and put her hans to her chest. Hoping another homeless human would not do a comotion this time.
She pushed back her hair and retraced the scar she contained on her chest. She sat on her bed, lost in thought again as she heard footsteps down the hall. She figured Nikki had finished her talk with Logan, but remained in her room. For once her couriosity did not not seize her.
10/13/2005 6:38 PM
Logan thought about following her down, wondering if he wouldn't be sleeping alone if he did, but pushed the thought to the back of his mind. He was going to have be patient untill he was sure about what it was he wanted. With nothing left to do, he turned out the lights and layed down. Sleep was fast in comming, but before it took him, he thought he heard something. Logan ignored it, contributing it to being in a new area.
When he woke up the following morning, Logan wasn't sure whether his dreams were pleasent or nightmares. Both women swirled through them, but so had many other images. The sun was barely up as he pulled on his clothes from the previous day.
It was quite as he headed down toward the entrance so he could gather his things from his Harley. The door was latched from the inside still, but he didn't know of any other doors out. He turned the latch and headed out, but he didn't get far. On the other side of the door, laying on the ground, was a man he had barely seen the night before as Nikki led him upstairs. He could hardly recognize him through all the blood and scratches. He stepped back inside and bellowed for Nikki.

Nikki sat straight up in her bed, every nerve in her body jumping. She threw her covers back, jumped out of bed, and grabbed her robe as she ran out of the room. As she ran downstairs, she pulled her robe on, and barely covered herself as she entered the main room. She stopped short when she saw Christian lying in her doorway.
"Oh my God," she said, the scent of dried blood filling her nostrils. She covered her nose, and felt slightly neauseated. She looked at Logan. She was sure the shock and horror of what she was feeling were clear on her face. Noises from outside caught her attention. Turning away from her guest, she noticed people were starting to come from their homes.
"Go get the sheriff," she told Logan. Nikki didn't wait to see him off. Instead, she turned, ran upstairs, and grabbed a clean sheet from the linen closet. She ran back down, and covered up the dead body. She didn't see the need for any children to see it. Once that task was done, she collapsed onto the floor, and began to weep.
10/25/2005 4:05 PM
Meia, having left home early saw the comotion outside. She gasped, dropping her cup of tea as it shattered to the ground. Her eyes caught sight of Nikki and Logan, she quickly bolted into a run toward Logan. "What happened--", Meia cut herself off as she saw the dead body of Christian on the ground. Nikki had came back with a blanket in her hands and covered Christian's body.
Meia's eyes widened as Nikki's tear filled eyes looked at her. "Go get the sheriff." she said to Logan. Seeing as he wouldn't move, shocked seeming to over come him, Meia dashed away to the police station, tears running down her cheeks as the clear image of Christian remained fresh in her mind.
Reaching the Police Station, she burst the doors open and headed to the first counetr she saw. A young, black haired officer jumped up and put his hands on her shoulder. His expression shocked, yet anxious. Meia finally caught her breath and told him what was going on. The sheriff along with two companions headed to the scene. Meia followed behind, her cheeks and nose red as her hair unbraided itself covering half her face.
12/04/2005 8:23 AM
Nikki barely noticed Meia rush off. She barely noticed the crowd gathered outside. And she barely noticed the coroner examine Christian's lifeless body, and cart it off. The sherrif questioned her, and Nikki answers seemed to come from a far off place. After everything was said and done, Nikki searched for Meia. Once she found her, Nikki told her to inform the pack that there was still going to be a meeting.
After seeing Meia off, Nikki grabbed a piece of cardboard and proceeded to do something she had never done before. She took a marker, wrote on the cardboard, and stuck it on the door outside.
The sign read: Closed due to death in family.
Nikki locked the door, and went back upstairs to the bathroom. She took a long, hot shower, and tried to wash the memories of what she had seen away. She stayed until the water ran cold. Shivering, she turned the water off, grabbed a towel, and wrapped it around her. She stepped out of the bathroom, and briefly hoped that no one would be passing her in the hall.
12/05/2005 11:33 AM
Loqan hoped that this was all coincidence. He wasn't even in town for twenty-four hours and someone was dead, obviously to him, and he was sure many others, that it was done by his kind. The only thing that he thought might be his saving grace with Nikki and the others in her pack was that it was not a human that was killed, it was one of the pack.
The sheriff didn't hear any of these thoughts, but because he was new in town, the sheriff kept on him for a while. Logan understood though. It was like so many slasher movies where a drifter shows up and everyone starts dieing. Logan was primarily honest with his vague answers professing that he knew nothing about what happened, and eventually was let go with a warning of being watched.
When he went to get back inside, Logan found the door locked with a closed sign on it. He knocked repeatedly, but noone came to the door to let him in. Before looking for another way in, he went to get the rest of his things from his Harley. There really wasn't much, just a few changes of clothes, a journal, and few pictures from his old pack.
He found an unlocked door around the back and went in. It took him in through a small hallway that came out behind the stairs to go to the second floor, a hallway that he hadn't even noticed. The downstairs was empty, but he wouldn't have stopped anyway. He headed up the steps, not even hear a door shut at the top. His head was down in thought when he got to the top, but a clear smell came through his thoughts. He looked up quickly, and what he saw held his gaze. Nikki stood in front of him as he stood before her the night before, wearing only a towel. She looked especially sexy, still a little wet from her shower.
Logan forced himself to look away, mummbled an apology, and started again towards his room.

Nikki's eyes widened and she was blushing furiously as she ran to her room. She darted inside, and slammed the door, bolting it shut to keep anyone out. She couldn't believe she had allowed that to happen. Especially with someone she barely knew. It wasn't like her to let her guard down.
"It's okay," she muttered to herself. "It's been a rough morning, things are bound to get to you."
Sighing, she shook her hair out, dried herself off with the towel, and put on a pair of jeans and a solid black t-shirt. She grabbed a pair of socks from her dresser, and her boots off the floor. She took a deep breath and opened the door.
"Logan!" she called. "I need you to come downstairs as soon as you're ready. We need to talk."
Nikki didn't wait to hear his response, instead she made her way down into the main room, and there she put on her socks and boots. Just because she had closed the inn for the day, and just because there had been a murder, did not mean that she could stay in bed, hiding from the monster who had killed a pack mate. And it most especially didn't mean that the meeting was cancelled. Far from it.

Logan slipped into his room and threw his things onto the bed. He pulled a blue tee-shirt out of his bag and paused. He held Nikki's image in his mind before pulling his dirty shirt off and putting the blue one on. The thoughts of her in just that towel settled his mind as much as it set it racing. He was staying, unless whatever had happened caused him to be run out of the town.
He put the rest of his things into various drawers and tossed the bag into a corner. He was about to lay down to futher think things through when he heard Nikki call for him. Logan was almost certain that he knew what she wanted. He smiled to himself as he opened the door to his room and headed toward the stairs. When he reached the bottom he found Nikki already sitting at a table, so he headed over and sat accross from her, already planning his responces.

Nikki had been lost in thought, trying to figure out what to do about what had happened that morning. Even though she didn't see Logan come across the room, she did smell him. She looked up at him, and leaned back in her chair.
"We're still having the meeting tonight. I expect someone to come here later to day to ask me that," Nikki started. "Hell, they ask me if meetings are still happening when everything is fine."
She looked at Logan for a second, and then looked down at the table. Of all the mornings since she had quit smoking, this was the one that the urge had hit her greatest. Sighing, she shook her head and looked back up at her guest.
"We're still going to discuss your former pack," she informed him, "but we also need to figure out who killed Christian. There's going to be a lot of people who are going to think that you did it. Don't worry, I'll let them know that it wasn't. I don't know who would have killed him, but I do know one thing, whoever it was, was lycan."

Logan sat and listened, disappointed in the subject. It shouldn't surprise me that this is what she wanted. There are more important things happening. But does she have to ignore what's happened between us? He couldn't really blame her, he had been there before himself. Logan had just hoped that he could help distract her.
He was still willing to help her out. He felt he owed it to here, feeling certain that while he didn't kill the man, it was becasue he was here that it happened. He wasn't sure why he felt that way, but it seemed to make sense. Logan looked Nikki in the eye and asked, "What is it you want me to do?"

Lunaris gazes off over the trees towards the town, thinking back to the first time he had looked down from this spot. Standing on a large rock which juts up above the tree line, the lycan closes his eyes and inhales deeply, savoring the aromas of the wilderness around him. If only I could stay out here for a few more weeks, the weather is perfect, but I said I would be back several days ago and I guess I can't procrastinate any longer With a sigh, Lunaris opens his eyes and begins climbing back down the rock, his hands and feet moving swiftly to the familiar holds.
Once at the bottom of the rocky spire, Lunaris stretches and looks around, ensuring that there are no humans nearby, sniffing the breezes for any sign of them. Once satisfied that there is no one around, he hefts his hiking pack over his shoulder and heads back towards the town, dodging trees and jumping bushes as he goes.

"For now, I just want you to stay out of sight until the meeting," Nikki said with a sigh. "I doubt Meia will be showing up anytime soon."
Not that there's anything wrong with that, she thought to herself. Standing, she went to a window and opened it. A faint breeze wafted in, and she inhaled deeply. A familiar scent was on that breeze, and her eyes widened in surprise.
"Lunaris," she said softly. "My old friend, how long has it been?"
Nikki couldn't remember the last time she had seen Lunaris, but if his scent was on the wind, then he couldn't be that far off. Turning from the window, she smiled her first smile of the morning. Things were starting to look up.
"We might have company soon," she said. "An old friend is on his way home."

Lunaris makes a quick run and jumps over a fallen log, landing in the midst of a jungle gym, swings, and teeter-totters. This was the park for the town's children, which was in a clearing in the woods, just a quarter mile from the inn. Taking a quick look around, the lycan tenses momentarily when he finds several pairs of eyes on him, but relaxes quickly as he recognizes them as cubs. The youngsters growl slightly at Lunaris, who snarls playfully back at them, before snorting and turning his chin up at them and walking towards the trail back to the inn, making sure to take a wide arc around the cubs.
As the lycan approaches the inn from the side, a smell tickles his nostrils which causes his to pause and breathe in deeply. The smell is immediately recognizable...blood... but not fresh enough to be a wound still bleeding. Lunaris walks to the front to to let himself in, there was not usually the smell of blood around the inn, especially not lycan blood, something wasn't right. Lunaris sees something odd as he reaches the front door and looks at the sign, 'Closed due to death in the family'. Well that tore it, there was no doubt that something terrible had happened More deaths around me, I'll not tolerate this! If I find out who killed a member of my pack, I'll rip them to shreds!
Lunaris snarls angrily at the thought of the murder of a pack mate, which it couldn't be anything else with the smell of blood as thick as it was now. The lycan attempts to open the door, but finds that it is locked, with a growl Lunaris pounds on the door a few times, loud enough to wake Nikki if she were sleeping, as she somehow always managed to hear the door when he knocked. It wasn't Nikki who had died, it wasn't her blood he smelled, but he wasn't familiar enough with the rest of the pack to recognize their blood this long after it had been spilled.
