Hello all. I'm a fan of Role-Playing Games, but I've had minimal experience, due to difficulties with scheduling and trying to find a group that doesn't consist of lame powergamers. I've never done anything like this kind of online roleplaying before, but it looks great. I love the idea of taking the numbers and charts out of gaming and instead focusing on the essential activity of creating a story, along with other people who are interested in role-playing rather than "roll-playing."

I have to admit, though, that I'm feeling a bit like a fish out of water. Am I allowed to just jump right into a game, or do I have to check with whoever is running it first? I've seen that some of the games have an OOC thread to introduce characters, but some don't. I like the look of Kalia_Majere's thread about Newbie Adventurers for an D&D campaign. Would that be the best place for me to start?

Hmm.... it all depends. If the game doesn't have an OOC thread, its probably safe to just join in. To be safe, post a short post asking if you can join. Some rp threads require you posts a bio of your character, for others, just a brief description of what your character looks like should be fine.

However, make sure that you read all the posts before you joined and understand the storyline first. Otherwise, if you fudge up your entry by attacking an orc ambush party that the existing heroes had already wiped out about 75 posts before, it's quite understandable if people would feel a little bit miffed.

An RP that you can join in anytime you want would be Future Fellowship 3. Of course, that thing is pretty massive. I think it's the second longest RPG to have ever been played on the RPGC. The 1st would definitely be Future Fellowship 2, with over 3000 posts (I think we were about 200 posts short of 4k when we wrapped that sucker up).

Otherwise, you can also try the RP training grounds to get an idea of RPing in the forums.

Edit: Wait, I just remembered, the second longest isn't technically Future Fellowship 3, it's the original Fernwood Village with about, I think, 1800 posts. But then again, we're hardly finished with FF#3.

Well hi Conrad - welcome to the RPGC! Glad you found us - I think you'll find this form of RPing will provide a great outlet for your creative side to be expressed. Once you get the hang of it, it's actually quite fun. :)

To help with the fish out of water feeling you've got going on, check out the Free Form RP Forums Guide (http://www.rpgconsortium.com/roleplaynow/ffrpforumsguide.cfm" target="_blank).

We also have an RP set up for folks who want to get used to this type of interacting before jumping into a thread - it's called The Traveler's Rest Inn (the thread just above the one you posted in). Since there's a transport portal just outside the Inn, any character from any system can come in - so there's no real setting you have to abide by.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask!
