I'm thinking of starting a Warcraft RP... I guess you would have to know a little about the game to understand this, but heres my idea.

It's set right after the downfall of the Naga uprising. With Illidan safely in captivity, and the Orcs at bay, the Humans and the Nightelves are signing an alliance, so as to increase their power. They want to make sure that nothing like the last great war ever arises again, so they bringing their races together in home and in arms. All goes well for a while, as had been hoped. All, that is, except for the Bloodmage. (I forget his name right now, I will edit this later when I find out.) He has become restless with the boredom of harmony in the village, almost wishing to be back in the good ol' days, fighting alongside his beloved Sylvanus. He wishes every day for some excitement. A small fight amongst the villagers, even. Unfortunately, though, the alliance is going too well for him.

One day, he stumbles upon an old book in the library inside the elven side of the village. He reads of how it can bestow great power upon whoever is to use it. Unfortunately, for the book to be used, a great sacrifice must be made.

I'm going to start it there, with him sitting in his throne next to the king. We will have people join in the Castle, as a council has been called. The people will join upstairs on a balcony overlooking the council if they are commoners, orcs, undead, or anyone who isn't considered of high importance. I expect most people to be up here, but a few will be down in the council. I will control all characters in the council other than the people being played by other members here.

Finally, I wanted to ask whoever is monitoring this section if it is ok if I use the names from the game. Most of them will quickly be kicked out of the story, once the plot gets moving, but for the beginning, many characters will be put into my story. Any objections to this?

sorry to hear that... it's a great game...

I will allow dragons, nightelves, undead, humans, naga, orcs, golems, kobolds, things like that. If you have another race you have you heart set on, just let me know, and I'm sure I could allow it.

I can explain any race you don't understand, if you want.

This doesn't actually happen in any game, but it's after The Frozen Throne. I would tell you more about it, buy my PILE OF CRAP COMPUTER can't support the game any more. I need to get a new one so I can get through the last couple of levels. In the meantime, I'm just going to have people help me make up for it.

EDIT: One thing I forgot to mention before: I'm not going to force people to be a certain race, but I'm only going to allow a certian number of each kind. In other words, we won't end up with fifty elves, 2 humans, and one undead. That's just stupid when that happens, and elves are everywhere these days.

EDIT #2: I updated the plot, go check it out.

Yeah, Im sure that that would work, but this would more than likely be much easier if you had a messenger of some sort so my questions could be answered faster since I am interested in particpating... Perhaps MSN or AIM?

I would join, but I've only played the first and second Warcraft, thus I'd be pretty lost. (I'm too cheap to buy WC3, and it probably wouldn't run on my old computer)

I'll join, will abilities be ones found in the game? or can we alter some skills/add new stuff?

I'd probably take part in it.

Right, and I understand that, so I would be willing to explain it a little more in depth, if people need it. But I would do that in the game, not here.

And yes, you could alter skills, just because not everyone knows every skill in the game. I myself forget some times, and until I can afford a new computer, I can't even play the game anymore. In any case, I don't have much computer time as of right now, because of finals coming up, but once school is out, I will start the RP. Anyone else who wants to join can just post something here, and I will send you a PM or something when I'm about to start it.

Ok, I'ma start this on Sunday. If I have the time. I might be too busy slamming XBOXs into my friends face. Anyways, go check in the general forums for it. If anyone else wants to, you can join there.

I'm not "in control" of this forum, but I'll answer your question:

Yes. You can use names from the game. You can use characters from the game, places from the game, items from the game - whatever you want. Freeform Roleplaying on this site is done for non-profit purposes, and therefore the RPGC is in no danger of being sued because you talk about Akamabagditty the Ninja Wizard. So long as you're not actively engaging in illegal pursuits (which is illegal AND against the Code of Conduct here), then you're fine.

I.E. - No toying with copywritten artwork. No posting large sections of any Warcraft product (for example, it would be illegal to reproduce the entire Warcraft game's handbook here).

Short answer: Yeah, you can use characters from the game freely and as often as you want.

Now for some advice:

Establish a general theme and plot design of -where- you want your game to go. Basically identify the POINT of the game. You've established the mood and setting, now explain the -theme-, concepts, and general plotline that the CHARACTERS will be following (this is different from the underlying plotline of the setting).

Doing this will help potential players create characters that fit comfortably with what you plan to do, and will allow undecided members a chance to figure out if they'd really like to be part of your game or not. It will help you generate interest faster.

And 1-2-3 -go.
