Alright, I feel like a total idiot asking this, but what are the differences between the kinds of roleplaying, such as on boards, on tabletops, live rping, that sorta thing. Can someone explain this to me? thanks.

well the main difference in the different kinds of roleplaying is mainly the way in which you go about it.

>Tabletop rpgs like D&D use set character sheets, lots of dice rolls, and pretty much just luck of the roll to decide what happens around your character (as well as the mighty DM who decides everything about the universe).

>Live rping, like LARPing, involves people actually going out and pretending to be whatever their character is. Dressing and having fake weapons, ( I use pvc pipe, foam, and lots of duct tape) and they role play their characters, although it usually ends up just being sword fights.

>Rping on boards/forums, thread style (like this web site), it's more of telling a story than playing a game. True you have to make your character, set them with limits and abilities (like in D&D) and then decide what your character does. But rather than just telling your group what your trying to do, you explain exactly what you do and make it descriptive and fun to read. When your done with your part, other players will add what happens next and/or what they were doing while your character was active, often telling readers what their character was thinking, making all of the action blend together to form a rich storyline. When this is done well, the RP becomes an enthralling story for both those involved in writing the story, as well as anyone who takes an interest and wants to read it.

I don't know if that helped much, but hopefully it'll give you some clue. :) hope you dive right in and have fun. If you have more questions ask here or mail me. Toodles, ttfn, ttyl and all that blues.... I mean umm, jazz. yeah :D

How do you find people for this? Do you look on the internet for locals, just ask random people on the street? (ha) I think this might be fun. Especially the pvc pipe, foam, and duct tape thing. I love duct tape!

I got involved with LARPing with some of the people from the high school I went to. I kinda got involved with the Magic collecting, D&D playing, trench coat wearing crowd and I got into it from there. I think there might be local groups that post on the internet, but I don't know. It's always best if you go with atleast 1 person you know well enough to clobber 'em and not get mad when they clobber you, atleast until your used to the style (first time I got hit in the face I was pissed hehe)

Nice.

Yeah, thanks for the info. I might try this. I guess that's all, unless he missed a type of rp that someone else wants to cover. Thanks again!
