This idea pertains to my quest for a RP story of great versatility.

Plot:

Backstory:
There is an infinite universe and an infinite multiverse. The Celestial Guardians have been keeping guard over what dimension, and planets within it, they have discovered. It has been their duty and responsibility since they have the great technology of dimension travel. The multiverse however is infinite, that is why they sometimes recruit the Vanguards from the outcropping civilizations.

One of these Vanguards, Mach Lo (Jet Li, hehe), found out that once you killed one counterpart, whatever essence and knowledge that counter part had would be transported to the other counterparts as a latent spiritual essence. This explains why some people seem to remember first lives and believe in reincarnation, this is where everything fits. Once you unlock this latent atribute, you gain strength and etc. from it.

Thus Mach Lo was empowered by it. He grew greeedy of this new found prowess and turned himself into an outlaw against the Celestial Guardians, hopping from dimension to dimension killing his counterparts. It would have been an easy task had not Mach Lo enlisted several others to his side, they were named as the Sins.

The Celestial Guardians in response hurriedly recruited others to counter this effect, including enlisting Moop, one of their Cyborg Clone commandos to lead this team. Four others were called to fight with him, together they were known as the five, Him, Sinus, Gladius, RX-Psycho, and Engineer. Together they were sent about the planes to bolster their forces against this Mach Lo.

Mission: Find Mach Lo, dead or alive, including others under the Sins.

Fun Part: Since this is a dimension hopping adventure the worlds and planes your characters may come from will vary as you wish. You could have Dragonlance, Forgotten Realms, Warhammer, ETC. This also means that the story may bring you to other worlds as well, including any thread I have started out as a DM.

Rules:
1. I am the ETERNAL ALL SEEING DM, WHAT I SAY GOES.

2. When in combat or when doing an action which I deem requires my judgement, you will only RP out the action ,but I will decide the outcome dependant upon your skill level.

3. Magic, there are two kinds of magic, multiversal or local. Local magic is only effective upon the dimension it is home too. It may not be as powerful as it is in other planes, or may not work at all. Same thing goes for physics.

Basic Template(Accepting suggestions)

Name:

Race:

Age:

Sex:

Height:

Worships[Deity, or whatever]:

Physical Appearance: Must be very descriptive and must at least make up one complete paragraph

Personality&Quirks: Same as appearance

Background: Must at least include two complete paragraphs clearly stating where you character came from and an explanation of one's history and why one has what skills, abilities, powers, one has has.

Skills: Must include an explanation of such ability, if magical I will say wther it is local or otherwise. Said skill will come in, Basic, Experienced, Learned, Advanced, and Mastered. Again, why this is so must be explained in detail in the background.

Powers: same as skills

Game system or what environment: The place where the character came from, Dragonlance fiction, AD&D, etc.

Just think of the possibilities, a drow is pitted against Riddick. Knights against a legion of grammatton clerics, and so much more.

More will come as soon as I see some people interested in this. Please.

This sounds like an awesome idea. I'd love to do an RP that is as "twisted" as this, and it sounds like if things go the wrong way (or the right way depending on how you look at it) you could end up with a poor little space marine in a world full of wizards and he doesn't know what is going on. It sounds like an amazing idea and if you decide to do it and have a few others who want to join I'll get a character ready, just let me know either here or through mail when you decide to do it.

sounds good .... just the names suck..
come on can't you think of anything better then that?

mail me when you make it tho...

Lol, I gotta agree, but hey, shouldn't judge something by it's cover... or rather... it's name.. well.. unless it's called "The unholy beast of all evil that wants to drink your blood and eat your soul."... but other than that it's all possibly good :)

You mean the title. It ain't da final draft or anything, but if the Celestial Guardian sucks, then it isn't my fault cuz its the idea of my friend who I would encredit later. We're actually thinking of making a web comic of it too.

a bit of advice... I tried this once actually... based as you have off of Jet Li's "The ONE". Unfortunately it failed, never really got out of the first two posts... so I say now, I wish you all the luck :)

how come you didn't get passed the first 2 posts?? was it because the players didn't know what was going on? or there wasn't any unity? or what was the main cause, maybe knowing that pitfall will let us bypass it. :D here's hopin!

Don't worry, I can try as much as my creative mind can handle. And as long as I can keep the Rpers at a fair leash, I can handle it.

will do, I got plenty of threads but none of them are around as often as I am so I end up waiting for people to post lol (I have no life) :P, so whenever I have more to do is good. I'll be thinking about my character, hardest part is gonna be picking a place to pull my character from, kinda leaning to warhammer 40k ATM but not sure.

Demitrex
05/06/2005 8:38 AM

No problem, holdin tight. :) Got a question or two though, while I still have time to be thinking it over.

Are we allowed to bring our character in from any universe at all? (small list of my ideas) Final fantasy(s), breath of fire(s), anime(s), D&D, Warhammer (40k) etc.. If not what is the limited list.

Are we going to end up all meeting in one same universe or will the story bring us together from our own universes?

What kind of power are you looking for in the characters? like if it's a D&D character what kinda level, if it's warhammer 40k how many points, etc. I just don't wanna plan on a character overly weak or powerful based on what your lookin for.

well thats it for now, no rush to answer. Just stuff I'd like to know eventually before the thread starts.

Truth be told I'm going to invent as system for skills and powers and have been in the process of it only. Still a few bugs to play out with my peeps. As for the characters they may come from any universe and are new recruits in the organization of dimension cops of whatnot. They may come from any system as so may my characters but I'm leaning towards originality with my characters because my group and I are planning on making web comics or flash animations with our owned fiction. I'm just having fun with our ideas here.

Demitrex
05/09/2005 9:14 PM

Sounds good, time for me to settle down and pick a universe then. I don't think I'll be doin warhammer 40k, I like melee and most of their best stuff is ranged (atleast for the more intelligent and agreeable races hehe) Also, since you say your inventing your own system for skills and powers etc. If I picked a character from D&D, will he have to stick to the D&D rule set about skills and powers, or will new and different things be available based on your new system? ( sorry if I ask too many questions)

Azrael_Adross
05/12/2005 10:15 PM

I desinged the skill system to be applicable for any system out there in our little thread. You'll just have to edit it a bit. Chainswords are so cool. Power to the DArk Angels!!!!

Name: Karn

Race: Tyranid-Carnifex

Age: 482

Sex: N/A

Height: when standing fully upright, about 12' 8"

Worships[Deity, or whatever]: none

Physical Appearance: Large bodied, Karn is almost always hunched over in the way that all carnifex are, his flesh a dark red, and his sections of armored carapace a deep black with orange tints. His legs are similar to a bull but without hair, and with alien spikes and ridges. Two sets of mantis like blade arms potrude from the sides of his chest, with a pair of almost human-like arms in between them, although much more powerful than human arms. He has no human-like eyes, but his psyker powers and his sense of smell more than make up for it. He has a tail that extends several feet out, powerful with a spikey ridge on the end. A very large jaw opens to reveal many sharp and nasty teeth in his maw. Large plates rise from the back of his carapace, similar to a stegosaurus.
(there is a picture that is similar to his appearance (http://us.games-workshop.com/download/popup.htm?/games/40k/tyranids/carnifex/images/carnifex-variant-2.jpg" target="blank)) However, the purple of his carapace is orange, the red of his horns and hooves is a very very dark blue, and the white(ish) flesh is dark red. Also he has arms that are not in the picture. The plates on his back are hard to see in this picture.)

Personality&Quirks: Karn has a very direct personality, having lived among creatures with little ability to think with any kind of free will. It is straight and too the point, not caring for emotions, formalities, or feelings. It does enjoy conversation, which was rare among his brood, and enjoys even more the intracasies of cooking, although he has trouble with it, even when his bladed appendages are folded back almost seemlessly into the edges of his carapace. Indifferent to any kind of insult or compliment, he lives for the moment with very little thought for the future, or of his past. This may change over time, as he spends more of it away from the hive minded tyranids.

Background: Karn was a genetic mutation of the tyranids (as they are always mutating and changing genetically to adapt new natural weapons and advantages), and was one of few Carnifex to be born with four mantis appendages as well as a set of humanoid arms. He was also imbued with far more psyker ability than carnifex were usually spawned with, and the link to the hive mind was all but severed, causing him to have free will. With the connection he had left with the hive mind, he was able to continue on as though he were no different from any other carnifex, jumping into battle only a few years after his spawning, when he had reached physical maturity. On the battle field, Karn used his psyker abilities not only to enhance his vision, but also learn and understand the language of his foes, learning to understand the languages of the orks, eldars, taus, and even that of the imperium.

As the years went by, Karn found his way into a sort of leadership position, many of his fellow carnifex had picked up that Karn had a peculiar way of knowing when and where enemies would set defenses and when they were about to break formation and head for cover, allowing the tyranids spectacular ambush apportunities. Eventually even lictors (tyranid elites) and a hive tyrant (tyrant equivalent of a warlord) began using Karn as a beacon for attacks. Karn had become exceptional at using his four scythes in unison and his arms could act completely independant of them, allowing him to grab enemies by either weapons or body parts to allow an opening for a bladed limb to find a finishing blow.

Karn one day found a Multi-melta (a space marine plasma weapon) and recognized it as a powerful weapon of the enemy. He took it up with his humanoid arms and continued with the tyranids in battle. It was several years later that Karn, through his psyker abilities and understanding of the language of the imperium, managed to discover how the weapon worked. He also grew to understand that the weapon would eventually run out of charge to fire it's plasmatic bursts. Through a decade of study, Karn managed to find a way to replace the plasma of the weapon, with a kind of telekinetic energy, managing to turn the telekinetic energy physical, in a similar state as the plasma. Few believe the rumors of a tyranid carnifex leading charges, firing a multi-melta, for the creatures simply aren't intelligent enough... until of course they see it themselves. He has been using his tactics for several centuries now, and learned how to use his psyker powers more effectively, including the ability to "see" the area around him in a radius of up to 10 feet with almost perfect clarity.

Karn was picked up by the Nameless Ones on one of many tyranid raids, the creatures assaulting a large force of Eldar. The carnifex had led a small force of the tyranid creatures to the flanks of the enemy and had begun their attack when a Grav-tank suddenly rounded into their sight. Most of the tyranid were blown away, a few lucky ones, including Karn, survived the initial blast but were thrown many feet away. Skulking away due to injuries, the carnifex found itself alone for the first time in a long time. Reflecting on it's life, Karn found that, while he enjoyed battle, it lacked meaning within the tyranid swarms. Fortunately for Karn a group of Nameless Ones had been watching it, knowing it was different than the rest. When approached about a position among them, Karn agreed willingly, at last finding a purpose, although his brutal style of merciless slaughter continues, generally only assigned to missions where prisoners are not neccessary, most of the time as a shock troop, assassin, or body guard.

Skills: ~Multi-weapon fighting(four mantis arms and a multi-melta) Mastered: Centuries of use have caused this carnifex to practice it's style to near perfection, it's bladed arms moving in complete unison, or fighting multiple apponents independant of each other.
~Marksmanship(multi-melta) Learned: Through prolonged use of this weapon it has become very proficient in it's use, but it's lack of eyes prevents it from true greatness.
~beast talking (ability to communicate to beasts without language) Learned: Through it's lifetime in the tyranid swarms, Karn has learned to communicate through body movements, faramones, and grunts/growls/roars. Perfect communication with tyranids, and works well with other beasts, but not nearly as well as his own kind.
~Multi-opponent fighting, Mastered: Through centuries of combat amongst armies of foes, learning to deal with multiple foes was neccessary for survival, aided by his psyker area detection.

Powers: ~psyker area detection (ability to "see" using psychic ability in a radius of 10 feet around him) Mastered: As with almost all of Karn's skills, this has been honed to perfection through ages of use.
~Regeneration (physical regeneration) experienced : Due to the mutagenic properties of the tyranids, his body regenerates much much faster than normal creatures. With more practice, will eventually be able to regenerate at will, even whole body parts. (mastered)
~Telekinetic ammo (ability to power it's multi-melta) learned: Through long time use Karn has learned to use his physical telekinetic energy as ammo for his weapon, although he has not mastered this skill. Better skill will enable him to fire faster and with larger bursts of energy.
~Psychic shield (resistance to psychic/mental menaces) basic: Not many psychic attacks have been made against the carnifex, but it has learned how to shield itself to a degree.
~willful mutation (ability to alter body parts, and even temporarily grow new ones) Unlearned: It is possible for a tyranid who truly commands the mutagenic properties of his body to alter himself and even grow new limbs. Karn does not possess this ability yet.

Game system or what environment: Warhammer 40k (yeah I broke down and did it, but atleast I did something really original (i think))

If you want any of this changed, or some of his skill ranks lowered or anything lemme know and I'll edit whatever you think needs retuning. I hope you like my character, I took me forever to research him and build up a history and whatnot. :)

Note: All uses of his/he/him are mistakes that I made due to the fact that all my characters have been male, I will attempt to keep them out of it in the actual thread, I just don't feel like going back and editing them all now.

...better on the history? Is that an ok way to join the Nameless Ones? Hope you didn't mind that I put his mission preferance in there.

Powerful, very powerful, now all you need is a backstory of how you ended up with the Nameless Ones, my new name for the Celestial Guardians cuz my friend who invented them uip said they had no name as an organization. However about those skill I believe you'll need to edit them into a counter part in my skill sytem cuz I'm not done yet but your skills are very similar to my system though, only the nem needs changing I think. Oh by the way, I won't allow players to have character on the other threads I made unless they won't overarch with this. And alternate chivalry does overarch with this. So choose mate, what cho want.

Ok I'll edit history to include coming into the organization, I assume they scout out talent and then invite them... And I'll be playin in this one, aint no way I'm gonna pick alternate chivalry over this after I went through all that for this character. Also, just lemme know what changes have to be made to my skills and I'll do it. I'll do the history edit in a few hours when my g/f goes home. Don't wanna bore her to death sittin onthe comp.

name:Orion

race:human

age: 19

sex: male

height: 6'3

worships: none

physical appearance: a tall man with very dark hair and emerald colored eyes. He is built well and looks as if he is ready to battle at any time. His legs are much longer than his torso and he has a heart shaped head(If you know what I mean). He wears camouflage everywhere. His large steel toed boots can knock many opponents down.

backround: he was born on the planet earth and was very good at many sports throughout school. He played basketball, football, and some hockey. This is part of the reason he has a strong build. When he was young him and his friends who some are with him now had many paintball wars being the reason he is skillful as a marine.

His mother was shot when he was only 12. When this happened he declared he would get her revenge. When he became 16 he got that chance. He was drafted into the army because of some terrorists in a country out in the middle-east was thought of producing weapons of mass destruction. He learned in a year or two that the man who killed his mother had ties to these people. He finally got to him and shot him when he became 18. He finally quit the military since this. But then he felt empty. He did not finish high school and was not about to go back. so he joined the marines.

Cool ok, for now I will allow you guys too post your bios here just fro the heck of it and too actually cut up the boredom but please when I get the thread running I need you guys to follow the mechanincs I put Aight. By the way Orion, your skills need leveling up, like ranks and stuff, and maybe even explicit details to better garner my GMing judgement.

did I put too much into my character? Lol I've got so much compared to demon... I hope that you guys don't mind multi-paragraph posts, I tend to post a little bit more than most of the other people in the threads I'm in, I don't do it just to be text heavy... it's just that I like stuff to happen and to put some detail into it... if it ends up bothering people be sure to let me know.

This sounds...really....really bad ass, I think Ill join...no Im pretty damn sure Ill join. Question though, if I wanted to use a character from earth...it wouldnt have to be modern day would it? Because If there were infinite universes then chances are there would be one similiar to ours...but a few hundred generations back or so...right?
Also, im not a stickler on this one but it would be cool...could I use a historical figure as part of my char backround? Such as...oh I dunno miyamoto musashi? Either way on these questions Im anxious to play this one...though I hope its members are active...I too am lifeless and impatient so I end up waiting a very long time for people.
