A chill wind blew through the small village of Solace, swinging the shutters on windows, rustling the large green leaves on the vallenwoods. Sara turner shivered slightly, and continued walking along the high-swinging ropeway, making her way towards the inn where her mother worked. The Happy Hoopak was a relatively new inn, and was drawing enough business to rival the Inn of the Last Home. Even though the Happy Hoopak's owner and proprieter was a half-kender, people flocked to the inn, mainly because of how it was situated on the road leading into Solace. Sara reached the back door, and knocked.
"Who is it!?" barked out a harsh, dwarven voice.
"'Tis me, Sara."
The door swung open, revealing the inn's expert on drink, a black bearded dwarf named Grolf.
"Where's yer mother?"
Sara shrugged.
"She's still sick. The healer said 'tis the aura of the Overlord, creeping over many as it draws closer."
The dwarf snorted.
"Quik may be a good healer, but he's superstitious as they come. Well, in with you lass, in with you. Thandal'll be with you in a minute."
Sara obediently sat in a chair, waiting. In a minute, the hakf kender came in, and started talking to her instantly.
"Sara, quick, you need to wait tables, we're really busy right now, please do get going, thank you m'dear."
Sara tied on an apron, and went out through the swinging doors, into the Happy Hoopak.

The common room was filled with chatter and laughter, and many people were there tonight. Another barmaid pushed a tray into her hand, and mumbled "For the one by the fireplace." before hurrying off.
Sara wended her way through the crowd, and passed by someone in black robes. She shuddered involuntarily, and hurried over to the man by the fireplace.
"Here you are, sir." she recognized him as one of her neighbours. The man smiled, and shook his head,
"Nay, lass, I did not order soup. But I believe she did." he said, nodding to the blak robed figure. Sara shivered, and went over to her table.
"Your order, ma'am."
The woman beneath the hood looked up. Her face was heart shaped, and narrow, with hair so dark brown it was edging on black.
Sara sat the tray down, and hurried away.
Sheleaned agaisnt the bar and pulled her hair into a knot in the back of her head. The almost waist length brown hair stubbornly refused to completely submit, and two long strands fell down, framing her face. She sighed, and waited for more people to arrive.

A man in a Grey Cloak entered the Inn. It was not what had expected to meet a person at, such a merry place of all things. He gripped his cloack and softly padded his way over to a table and waited for the barmaid.

He searched around for moment, noticing nothing but merry fellowship, enjoyment, and drunk dwarves. He only hoped that he could keep his identity unknown to all in the Inn.

Just then he heard a merry exclamation from beside him.

Sara saw a man in a grey cloak enter. She straightened her apron, and hurried over to his table.
"Welcome to the Happy Hoopak. What will it be for you tonight?"

"Give me something hard. I want the best a kender can make..." he stopped.

He thought he heard something...something calling his name. His instincts were in hay wire and he began to twitch uncontrollably. Finally the urge ended.
"Sorry..." And he hid his clawed hand and closed his eyes.

"What is it!?" he replied to the answer. "I have brought a burden upon you Revlic...my pawn. "What?" Revlic pondered for a moment and began to worry. "What have you done?"
"They will be there in a few minutes"

A figure stayed in a far corner of the common room... his golden eyes swept the room for any signs of danger. Tonight, his eyes strayed constantly to the man in the grey cloak, seemingly having a one-sided conversation with himself.

Hiaku was well known by those who ran the Inn, he and his mate, Wylin. Wylin had left on a journey that she had to make alone, and that left Hiaku to protect solace by himself.

Again those golden orbs strayed to the man with the grey cloak, and they narrowed in suspicion.

The door opened and entered a figure that was entirely garbed in black. She did not speak as she walked in, gliding around the tables and chairs as if she were floating. She sat down in a seat from the oppisite corner of Hiaku, her hood hiding her face in shadow. She glanced around the inn, taking in each face. Her gaze stopped for a moment on the pair of golden eyes, a smirk appearing for a quarter of a second on her hidden face, then continued to look around. She rapped on the table, "Barmaid?"

If there was anything that could tear his gaze from the strangely acting man, it was this newcomer... her aura was as familiar to him as his own... and his eyes narrowed in suppressed anger. Standing, he moved toward her table.

Karina noticed Hiaku's glance, she chuckled inwardly as a barmaid walked over, "Buy that man with the golden eyes an ale and tell him it is from me...and give him this," She handed the barmaid a slip of folded grey paper, crumbled from use.

The barmaid nodded as the black-garbed woman handed her a few coins, "sir, this is for you," She placed the ale in front of him, "it was from that person over there," she pointed to Karina, who smirked in the shadows of her hood. She also handed the paper to him, "as was this.."

The message was simple, not bearing a name.

Hiaku Seimiya Star-Shrine,

There’s another world inside of me
That you may never see
There’s secrets in this life
That I can’t hide
Somewhere in this darkness
There’s a light that I can’t find
Maybe it’s too far away...
Maybe I’m just blind...

So hold me when I’m here
Love me when I’m wrong
Hold me when I’m scared
And love me when I’m gone

Everything I am
And everything you need
I’ll also be the one
You wanted me to be
I’ll never let you down
Even if I could
I’d give up everything
If only for your good

So hold me when I’m here
Love me when I’m wrong
You can hold me when I’m scared
You won’t always be there
So love me when I’m gone

Love me when I’m gone...

When your magical x-ray
Can not see under my skin
I won’t tell you a damn thing
That I could not tell my friends
Roaming through this darkness
I’m alive but I’m alone
Part of me is fighting this
But part of me is gone

So hold me when I’m here
Love me when I’m wrong
Hold me when I’m scared
And love me when I’m gone
Everything I am

And everything you need
I’ll also be the one
You wanted me to be
I’ll never let you down
Even if I could
I’d give up everything
If only for your good

So hold me when I’m here
Love me when I’m wrong
You can hold me when I’m scared
You won’t always be there
So love me when I’m gone

It is indeed a pleasure we meet again.

Hiaku's frown only deepened when he read the note...his fist closing tightly over it, crumpling the paper mercilessly... then chuckled softly to himself, it seemed his lot to attract those with demented outlooks on life. With a sigh, he picked up the mug and moved over to Karina's table.

He lay the crumpled paper before her, and offered her a wan smile. "What brings you back here Karina?" He asked, with no preamble.

"Nothing in particular, Hiaku, very few things have the power to bring me anywhere." She chuckled, "And I assume you are merely doing your noble deeds in protecting the quaint little town of Solace? Ah yes, good and noble...do you want to keep that, or should I take it back?" She motioned to the note with one gloved hand.

A kender wearing a green cloak walked in and looked around for a seat. He found one by a very big man and sat down. Soon afterwards the man looked for his knife. The man looked at the kender and noticed that the kender was holding his knife.

The man said, "Kender, give me back my knife or else." The kender looked back at the man. "What this? I just picked it up. It's mine... finders keepers, losers weepers." At this point the kender stuck out his tongue.

A thing he probably shouldn't have done since it made the big man very mad and tried to grab the kender but, the kender was to fast and dodged him. Soon the man and his buddies were chasing after the kender as he ducked, dodged, and ran away from them. Then, one of the men grabbed the kender's cloak and whipped him across the room into the wall. As the kender was rubbing his head the big man and his buddies surounded him. "Now your gonna pay," The big man said as he cracked his knuckles.

The kender looked up at all the big men. They started to move in closer. The kender looked down and knew what was coming next.... a beating.

Karina turned to look at the men, "Let the kender go," she said, her grey features hidden by the shadow of her cloak, magically enhanced, "Leave the little brat alone, and let him have your stupid knife, I'm sure it's a cheap piece of crap that you coudln't get anywhere else." She pulled a knife from a her boot and tossed it to-or rather at- the man, more specifically, his head.

Sara nodded to the grey cloaked man.
"We have somr fresh ale, sir." and bustled off. He yelled her order out to the cook, then hurried over to a table where a man and a kender were fighting. A knife whistled through the air, and Sara ducked just in time. She frowned and turned to the woman who threw it.
"No more of that, or there's no place for you at this inn." she turned to the kender and the man.
"Welcome to the Happy Hoopak, how may I help you?"
-----------

A woman slipped into the crowd and sat down at a table. She waved over a tired looking barmaid and ordered an ale. The barmaid scuttled off, and she leaned back, viewing the room. Her dragon senses had already informed her of the prescence of several mages, another dragon, possibly more than one, and a woman who seemed to be.......divine. She shrugged, and unslung her lute. The Blue-Gold eyed the happy crowd, and pulled herself upright, strumming a single note on the lute. The crowd around the fire quieted down, and several yelled out their requests. Iridia patiently listened, trying to decide on one.

The man was just barely able to dodge the knife and looked at the cloaked women. "I don't like the tone of your voice missy, maybe I should teach you a lesson." At this he grabbed the knife and started to walk towards her with his buddies. The kender seeing that someone had stuck up for him, jumped up and ran infront of the men and said, "Here, have your knife back. I didn't mean to take it but it was just lying there and so I picked it up."

He gave the knife back to the man and the man said, "Thanks you stupid kender now get out of my face!" With this the man upper-cutted the kender sending him flying onto a table that broke when he landed on it, the kender stayed there. The man then looked back at the woman, "Well I guess I don't need your stinking knife anymore so here you go." And then the man whipped the knife at her and charged at her with his knife, his buddies followed. "Your gonna learn a lesson missy!"

Hiaku frowned and though he didn't particularily care for Karina, he didn't like disruptions in his town. Moving at speeds natural for his true form, he intercepted the man, not to protect Karina, far from it. He merely wanted to avoid as much conflict here as possible.

Interposing himself between them, he reached out and grabbed the mans' wrist, twisting it hard to force him to drop the knife. "Not in my town..." He snarled, his gold eyes narrowed in anger.

A hand snapped out of the robe and grabbed the dagger as Karina stood up with a polite nod to Hiaku. She spun it expertly in her hand and watched the men, "I highly advise you stop your charge before I am forced to do something highly unpleasant to you," The demigoddess pulled several spell components from a pouch at her waist and held them in her other hand, "It is your choice."

She frowned as she looked at Hiaku in front of her, "I can handle myself, as you may well know...oh..I have something you might want to see in my Tower, if you would like to return there with me."

The man looked at them all, calculating the odds of weither or not to fight them. "Very well, you got lucky today. Next time you won't." He then left the inn with his buddies. Slamming the door behind him.

The kender got up and brushed himself off. He then looked to the people who saved his skin. "Thank you all, had it not been for you people, I'd probably be out cold right now." As he said this he went up to all of them and shook their hands.

When he reached Karina and shook her hand he said, "What are these things? They look very interesting." He was holding some of her spell components in his hands and looking at them. "Are these music notes? Are you a musician? Huh, huh, are you, are you huh?" He started to jump up and down with excitement.

(((OOC: I'm replacing Willow Nightshade with someone else)))

Willow had just left the inn when someone else entered. She plopped down by the fire, basking in its warmth for a minute, before looking over the rest of the inn. Her eyes were a cheerful blue, and her short hair, curving around her face, was a honey color.

A smattering of freckles splattered over her cheeks and nose, adding to her youthful appearance. At 20, Adrien was neither imposing nor powerful looking. She was a spellfilch to be reckoned with, though you couldn't tell merely by looking at her. Her powers of telekenesis were strong, as was her chameleon skill, and her wide array of magic items rivaled those of a kender.
She took off her black cloak, revealing a dark plum shirt, and elbow length gloves of the same color. On the palms of the gloves, if anyone could have seen them, was the image of a tiny black spider. A pair of black pants and soft black hide boots completed her outfit, and a fine silver chain was tucked into her shirt.

She waved to a brown haired barmaid, and looked around. A minstrel was sitting nearby with a lute, and across the room it looked like a fight was breaking out. A large group of people she assumed to be locals got up and left, leaving the room much quieter then before. She ordered soup and wine, and the barmaid scurried off. Adrien leaned back in the chair, humming to herself. It was a nice quiet inn, and a nice, quiet town.

A loud BANG echoed from the kitchen, and shrieks of fright erupted, causing Adrien to sit up in her chair so fast that she fell out. Hopping to her feet, her years of training in the thieves guild taking over, she flicked a dagger out of her wrist sheath. Cries and crashes were coming from the kitchen.
"What the he-?" she began, and was interrupted by a BANG on the door of the common room. Another blow struck it, and it burst open, spilling in tall, scaled creatures with wings. Crouching behind her table, Adrien gasped in spite of herself. Black Dragonspawn! She had known the Onysablet wanted to expand to Solace, but the audacity of the Overlord was startling. The spawn spilled in, howling, knocking tables left and right. She saw the brown haired barmaid hiding behind the bar as more came through the kitchen. Adrien glared at a table, and it jumped up, crashing into a group of spawn. There were yells from the lizard-men. A particularly tall one gave a hissing cry of, "For Onysablet!", and charged into the room.

Chapter I: Battle for Solace

Karina pushed the kender away as she turned to the dragonspawn...the creatures irritated her to no end. As for that matter, did the Overlords. Her mortal blood burned---she was killable by these wretched spawns. They had enough to magic to strike her down, and so she watched with interest and infuriation as the bastards charged in, the dagger slipping back into one of the pockets of her cloak to be replaced by a thin staff of obsidian, topped with a grey orb which mist swirled inside. The Staff of Dragons had been hidden by her mother as a punishment, so she delt as well as possible with her own creatures: And the Orb of Godly Talking was a nice tool for emphazining power itself.

"Onysablet's spawn..." she muttered to herself, not in the least threatened, "How interesting..."

Avenging_Angel

Sara crouched low behind the bar, terrified by the strange lizard creatures.
--------

Adrien jumped back as a spawn overturned the table she had been hiding behind.
"Filthy Human!!" it snarled, swinging at her with it's crude weapon. She ducked, and swung her leg in a low kick, knocking it's feet out from beneath it. Another took a breath to blast her with acid, and she threw a piece of wood at it. The wood caught the acid, and she repelled the wood at the spawn. It howled in pain as the acid ate away at it's black scales.

Adrien noticed the woman with the dark cloak was moving. She hurried across the room, sending another spawn flying with her telekenisis. She managed to reach the womans side.
"Um, you wouldn't happen to know a very good way to kill these, would you?" she said nervously, sending another table flying with a glare.

SoaringEagle
05/06/2004 12:49 PM

As he was about to reply, he was pushed out of the way and noticed that Onysablet's spawns were here. "This isn't good." He hid behind a fallen table and looked at the spawns. He had seen them a couple times before, but not in such a great number. He decided that if he was to survive, he would need to somehow help those who were fighting.

He jumped up and ran over to were he was sitting only minutes ago and grabbed his staff. He saw two spawns and pole-vaulted over them. And while doing so he nailed them both in the back of the head and landed on another ones shoulders. As the spawn looked up he smiled and then jabbed his staff in between the spawns eyes. He then jumped backwards and landed between a group of spawns.

Once he landed, he sweeped their feet with his staff and then came down on their throats. Than pole-vaulted over to the two women standing together.

Kalia_Majere

Hiaku pulled a small silver cyllinder from a hidden pocket in his tunic and held the two opposing ends in his palms. Slowly he pulled his hand appart and the cylinder grew to resemble an unstrung bow. Glaring at the closest of the spawn, he drew his empty hand back from the bow-like weapon.

From the center of the bow, near his hand that held it, a bright silver sphere sparkled into existance, growing brighter the longer he held his one hand back. His right arm trembled, as if he really were drawing back a properly strung bow back, and the glow was right were an arrow tip would have been, and slowly he sighted on the closest of the spawn....

"It seems I have been assumed that I had any intention of doing anything.." She shrugged, "That I will, I suppose." Pulling out several spell components, she muttered an arcane phrase and waved her hands, sending more then a few dazzling bolts of lightening spraying out from her gloves. Each one of them weakned a spawn a little, then jumped. Soon, the magical lightening was dancing all over the inn, boucing back and forth onto the spawn and around the inn, thought the inn did not catch fire at the lightening's touch.

The lightening danced around the room, avoiding those who she wished it too, Karina promptly turned back to Hiaku, "Whichever warlord decided to do this will be hearing from me, and particular others who you know who I speak up, thought I not mention her name. These spawn will not be happy creatures in a few hours, I can assure you that."

She turned back and looked at the room, "Now..what to do..."

He watched as the lightning danced about and zapped the spawns. He then turned to Karina and started to talk, "Wow, could you teach me how to do that?" He started to jump up and down with glee and after a second, he stopped and thought of something. "Hey, if we're underattack... what about the rest of Solace? I mean I think it would be kind of stupid and senseless to just attack one little inn and not the rest of the town."

Avenging_Angel
05/11/2004 4:38 PM

Adrien simply stared. She knew that High Sorcery was powerful, but she had never known how much. The dead spawn had fallen where they stood, and the inn was chillingly quiet. A whimper cracked the silence, and Adrien spotted the bron haired barmaid crouching behind a ruined table. Adrien leaned against the wall, and sunk to a sitting crouch.

"Hey, if we're underattack... what about the rest of Solace? I mean I think it would be kind of stupid and senseless to just attack one little inn and not the rest of the town."

Sara's trembling voice answered.

"The Happyy Hoopak is the first building in the village from the road."

Adrien jerked, her eyes flying open. SHe scrambled to her feet.
"Then...That would mean that.........."
".......The rest of Solace is under attack." Sara finished.

Adrien sighed.
"Why does it seem like there is always something with the inns I choose to stay at?"

Kalia_Majere
05/12/2004 4:19 AM

Avenging_Angel

"Gods damn" she swore.

----------
Meanwhile, far away...........

Onysablet soared through the sky, enjoying the pleasure of free air over her scaly hide. Since the death of the other Overlords, she had grown greatly. Her serpentine form now rivaled Khellendros. She landed on the plain, and hissed at the hot sand. The other overlords were coming, she knew. She had only to wait.

PrincessOfDarkness

Karina was not much saddened by the burning Solace. In fact, she thought it rather beautiful to see the flaming Vallenwoods.

But this was not the point. The point was that fat dragon bitch had interupted her time. She didn't take well to interuptions by certain dragon bitches. For that matter, she didn't like being interupted by anyone. Therefor, she decided that these bastard spawn were goign to die, and Solace could burn all it wanted.

She stood up and pulled out a thin white powder and wiped it onto her hands, greying her black gloves. A few words of magic and they glowed blue. Another word and the room flashed a briliant, blinding light, and then remained the same. However, the air almost cackled with magic. She turned to Hiaku, "I highly suggest you move your draconic blood out before it buzzes you like it is created to cause much pain to those dragon blood."

She smiled somewhat too sweetly at Hiaku before sitting back down at her chair.

"Very well your Highbitchliness. C'mon...whatever your name is. And you too, kender."

Hiaku had his spectral bow drawn again, his eyes narrowed and focused on a spawn ahead of him, the vile creature was dragging a barely concious human woman from one of the homes. With a snarl of rage Hiaku sighted and relesed the arrow. The shot of light tore through the Spawn, it's screeches echoed as it dropped to the ground, its hold on the woman gone.

Hiaku rushed forward, and picked up the woman, and instantly recognized her as Sara's mother. Carefully he picked her up, the aura of sickness clung to this woman like a second skin, and Hiaku would have to take the time to heal her of it...

"Mother!" Sara, who ahd been looking out a window cried. She ran over to the unconscious woman.
"Mother!" she sobbed. She looked up at the man.
"T-THank you!"

Adrien raised an eyebrow, then grinned.
"Nice one, dragon."

((OOC: Kalia, I posted in Spirits of the Forest. I'm waiting on you)))

Hiaku turned his amber gaze onto Adrien, those amber orbs narrowed in suspicion... not many knew his true form.. not even very many of the townsfolk knew his true form... his eyes turned to sara, knowing that she was one of the few.

"Lets get her inside... I can try to ease her illness... I do not know if I can cure her of it or not."

Karina bristled at being called 'bitchliness' but decided not to send the man up in flames or various other things. Instead, she merely stood in the corner and watched quietly as they healed the woman. She had to admit, Hiaku was growing stronger, of course, there were always ways to counter that. Just wait until they saw her newest idea. She chuckled to herself at the thought, but otherwise remained silent.

holding one hand over the woman's forehead, and the other lightly touching his lips, Hiaku murmered softly in his native language. A blue sigil... a Kanji for Water appeared above the woman.... then layered over that, was another, in silver, the Kanji for wind....

The aura that he can see around the woman was a sickly red... tinted with black... as his spell progressed, the silver and blue chased a good portion of the red and black away... leaving it more vibrant...

Lowering his hands, the Kanji faded from sight. "There, that should help.. Though I do not think I have completely healed her of it... "

Korin was looking at what Hiaku was doing to the old woman. "Wow, thats really cool. Think a kender like me could learn to heal?" He then realized that he didn't even know this mans a name. "By the way, whats your name? My name is Korin." He then noticed that he didn't know any of the others either. "And yours? Yours?"

((OOC: I'm doing that too. Weird.....*twilight zone music*))

Sara stared at Hiaku.
"Hiaku.....thank you..so much..... Is.....Is she alright now?"

By the way, whats your name? My name is Korin." He then noticed that he didn't know any of the others either. "And yours? Yours?"

Adrien eyed him.
"Adrien Starfall Shimmer. Yes I'm related to my annoying, infamous, and disgustingly noble aunt, Adrien Shimmer, so don't bother and ask."

PrincessOfDarkness

"Karina." She replied, obviously not intending to say any more, "But you can call me Master." Her hidden lips curled into a smirk, "Why, do you ask, Korin?"

Adrien choked back a laugh, turning it into a cough.
"coughARROGANT!cough"
She grinned.

"coughARROGANT!cough"
She grinned.

"One could say that I am indeed quite arrogant, though I can assure you I contain all the power nessacery to back up my claims. I am not saying I am more powerful then I am. I am no God. But, do not try and say that I am quite an average black robe....." She looked over at Hiaku, "I am quite..unique in that aspect."

Adrien's laughter choked off abruptly. She had been a spellfilch for most of her life, and she was good at sniffing out different magics. When the woman spoke, she suddenly got a whiff of a magic that terrified her. Divine. She backed up several paces, running into a table. She couldn't believe she hadn't noticed this before, Granted, she had been distracted, but now that she paid attention, the woman's power blazed. She had power. Divine. And a whole lot of it. The only peson she had ever met with this much power had been Oriel Majere. Adrien was alarmed. She had seen what Oriel could do without even really trying. And she had been insulting someone that powerful.

((OOC: Yeah, weird.))

Korin seemed to be out in his own little world for awhile as he chose which to call Karina. "How about I just call you Karina, okay?" Then he looked at Adrien as she exchanged insults with Karina. He then noticed that Adrein started to back off as though she was scared of Karina. Though he thought it was weird he shook it off and decided to play his flute. He pulled out his flute and started to play a melodic tune that seemed to hymn of good and peaceful times.

A slow, predatory smile spred across Karina's shadowed face, "I see that you have realized who I am, or at least what, hmm?" She chuckled softly, "And, I take quite liberal use of that power by the way, so I advise you to quit speaking to me like I am some average mageling. Although I am not particulary violent when I am not after something...I would not go as far as to say that I am a peaceful woman. I am no god..but only a little less. So, for further occasions, do hold your tongue. I have no problem with a glib wit. Just not in my direction. " She peered off into the distance, then sat down at put her blacksteel-toed boots on the table. Leaning back, her head was impossible to see within the shadows of her hood. One did not exactly want to show off with the greyish skin and black lips and eyes that she had taken for her power.

"What do we do now, then?"

Adrien's inner hatred of being ordered around warred with her terror of someone so powerful. She eyed her.
"God or not, I'll treat you like any other."

What do we do now, then?"

Adrien eyed her.
"I would imagine that being a god, you would know. Or perhaps your not as high and mighty as you'd like to say you are?"

Sara eyed Adrien in a puzzled way.
"I don't now, honestly. What should we do?"

The young woman had barely finished speaking when a loud explosion rocked the inn. Adrien flung her arms over her face, and the world spiraled into darkness.................

What happened.........
Out of the few thoughts flitting htrough the fog of Adrien's mind, it was the most coherent.
She groaned. Something hurt. Badly. Her eyes opened. The sun was set, and the moons were starting to rise. The wind rippled through the grass...
Grass? I'm in an inn!
SHe sat up. Her jaw dropped. She truly had no idea where she was.
The other people that had been in the inn were with her. She pulled herself into a stnading position, hoisting herself up on a rock. The rock glowed and she jumped back, falling to the ground again. She crawled away from the rock awkwardly, going backwards. A ray of light shot from the rock, and a beautiful woman, clothed all in white appeared.
"Greetings, my champions. Krynn has great need of you."

Adrien's jaw dropped.
What the hell?

Korin awoke with a start, his head pounding. He sat up and opened his eyes to see a rock in the middle of what seemed to be a forest A forest, what the? Last thing I remember I was in the inn playing my flute, and then came the explosion that shook the inn. This is too strange. He then noticed that a beautiful woman appeared from a ray of light.

"Greetings, my champions. Krynn has great need of you."

He just starred in disbelief. "You've got to be kidding me."

"No shit." Adrien added, staring at the phantom.
"You must be crazy, lady. By the way, who in the name of the Abyss are you????"
The phantom woman's melodic voice replied.
"Who I am is not important. What is, is that you and you alone can face Onysablet before her power grows too great."

Adrien stared for a minute, then burst into laughter. Insane, maniacal laughter. She managed to turn it into sporadic hiccuping.

Karina cocked a dubious eyebrow, brushing her robes off, "Who dares demand something from me? I was quite contented, and now I am not.....oh, and I am not your champion. I am another's champion. ANd regardless, I can face Onysablet now. It is not so complicated ...but regardles of anything, I think you'd best explain yourself before I do something you'll not like..." Her tone of voice left no question to whatexactly she intended to do.

Adrien didn't think much of the woman in the black robe. But at least she appeared to have a personality. Yay. Brownie point for the arrogant chick in the black robe.

The phantom stared at Karina. No wind was blowing, but golden-brown hair billowed around her shoulders.
"Nothing is demanded of any. It is but your destiny no matter how you act. Destiny has woven you into her web. I am but a way for destiny to weave her way about you more swiftly, and less harshly for all of you."

He looked at the phantom. "Ok, the way you said that, was really freaky. And besides that, I don't really think you need me. I mean, I'm just a kender, what could I possibly do?"

The phantom's strange voice replied.
"Have you no ambition, kender? Have you no memory of the mightiest of them all, Tasslehoff Burrfoot?"

Adrien was still staring at her like she was a rabid dog.
"M'kay.................."

The phantom continued.
"But few hours away, down the road, lies the swamp of the wyrm Onysablet. She allows humans to live in her swamp, and the small village of Fekera is at the border. Good luck."

It was silent for a minute.
"Ummmm........"
Adrien looked around.
"Well, I guess that we might as well go to that village or something. It's almost dark, and I don't want to be caught out at night near that swamp, or in it for that matter."
