Hey all!

New prototype feature added. When you first start up an RPG thread, you will see two new boxes. The first one is for the actual LIVE rp thread. The second is to start the first OOC/Recruitment thread. This is how it works.

When you first start an RP thread there are a few way on how people START an RP thread.

Jump Right In! Some people just start one and WOOP! there they go. People look and if they like, they just jump in along. There's no need for Recruitment or an OOC thread because they don't care if the OOC stuff is in the Live RP thread. If you decide to start one of these threads, just leave the second box empty and it won't "attach" an OOC/RECR thread to your RP thread. The Tidy RP Starter Some people start and RP and don't want to deal with all the OOC talk (planning an event in the RP...ect) in the Live RP thread and create a new thread to do all the OOC stuff. You don't have to start a new thread anymore. If you are one of these people, just post your starting RP thread in the first box and in the second box put in a simple message saying something like "Please keep all the OOC stuff for this RP in this section". It'll automatically create the LIVE RP area and "attach" the OOC/RECR area to your thread. The Recruitment Seperator Like the sample above, the RP started will want to keep their OOC/Recuitment stuff out of the LIVE RP area but want to start recuitment first before letting people go wild in the LIVE RP area. In this case, you'd post either an Intro to the LIVE RP in the top box. Or if you don't have an intro in mind yet, a simple message that says, "Please look in the OOC area to learn about how to join". You can then later, go back and edit the STARTING message when you are ready to start RPing. You would then post the rules, how to join, post your character here... etc in the second box which will attach an OOC/RECR area in your RP thread.

I hope I'm making sense. This help keep the RP topic listing cleaner and keep the Live RP thread and OOC/RECR threads together.

There are a couple of examples now in the Dragonlance RP forum. If you look "Tavern of Fire" and "War of Valor" you'll see that right under the PAGES: for the thread, you'll see another page listing for "OOC/RECR". You'll also see a BLUE number for the # of replies. The first white # is the number of replies for the LIVE RP thread and the second it the number of replies for the OOC/RECR thread.

There's a couple more additions I found when playing around with this that I'll add later. One is to give the ability to start an OCC/RECR thread for your RP if you didn't orignially think you needed on.

Two, I need to modify the NEW message count so that it'll show new counts for the LIVE and OOC thread. Right now, the new count reflect either a new message in the live thread or the OOC thread. So you'd have to click a page in with the LIVE or OOC areas to find out where the new message(s) are.

Three, I need to make a link to easily switch between the LIVE and OOC areas when your scanning the reply listing.

[Above #2 & #3 was added 4/7/04]

For those who already have an RP thread and want to attach an OOC area OR already have a seperate OOC thread for your RP and want to combine them, let me know which one in this thread and I'll fix it for you.

That's it! Comments or Suggestions? Let me know!

I think all the chages are great, but if you could make the button to get to the OOC tread bigger it might help.;)

Damn nice! Like the changes a lot Chung... thanks...

I was wondering if you could attach the OOC thread for Rise of the Dead to the RP thread if possible...

Hey Chung, I was wondering if there'll be a way to link directly from the RP page to the OOC/Recruitment page any time soon in the threads?

Yuppers! Soon. :)

This have been added! :) If you see a cyan number in parenthesis () in the NEW, it's the number of NEW OOCs replies.

Done! If you look at the top right where you navigate between pages, you can switch between the RP and OOC sections.

Heeeeeeeeeeeeee! Possible to make a button that brings us immediately to the first and last pages?

Something's up with the message count on Tavern of Fire. It lists the OOC as being two pages, but when you goto page two, there's nothing there.

Another thing I just noticed in general. At the "browse topics" listing, you have the OOC/RECR: part listed as OCC/RECR: not sure what an OCC is, but I think you meant OOC. Just a typo to fix.

Just use the drop down list to go to page 1 or to the last page.

Maybe this is just my computer/internet, but...

When I go to a thread that has seperate RP and a OOC/Recruit pages, I see a drop-box for the pages of the other, but no amount of clicking it, the number itself, or the surrounding text highlighted in gray does a damned bit of good...

I figured that it was supposed to take me to the latter page, but is being unresponsive... is this the same case for everyone or just me?

What kind of computer do you have and which browser and version are you using?

Ah. so you're using the AOL browser? That's probably why. Did you try using your IE instead once you've dialed into AOL?

Mine acts the same way Chung... and mine is a rebuilt HP, using a Pentium IV... running XP Professional, and we are using IE6... (I think...but it's not lower than the 5.1)

Airiana
04/16/2004 5:57 AM

Hmm, well I guess I'll have to go back to the topic screen and select the link I want for a little while yet... parental controls on AOL don't allow me to use other browsers, but we're getting RoadRunner soon, so it shouldn't be a problem after that...(8 more days...)

Hmmm.. by any chance, is it when there's only ONE page of the other section? There's a bug there if it's just one page, it won't SELECT the page so it won't go. I have to fix that.

But if it's because there's only one page then that's the problem. Let me know.

Give it a try now. I have a feeling it wasn't working for either of you because of the one page bug. :)

Hey Chung... when did you add the flashback feature and how does it work... the same as for quoted text? (Sorry, I just noticed it in a couple of posts recently and wanted to comment...)

Also, I dunno if you did something, or my browser has decided to work now, but I can go from RP to OOC threads now.. Oddly enough, I think it all had to do with those two little dashes that're at the top now (--). Before they were there, I couldn't go from one to the other, but now that it doesn't start off on an actual number, it works!

Well, anywho... 'nuff of my ramblings...

The quoted text has always been there. :) The flashback feature isn't a feature. It was just me using HTML to make it look cool, BUT I can make a flashback feature that does that. I have a bunch of those feature type sets I plan to put in like [ooc][/ooc] and [bic][/bic]. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. :)

Oh I knew the quoted thing was there... I make pretty good use of it, often enough! :P I was wondering if it was something like [FLASHBACK] ... [/FLASHBACK] or something like that, 'cause I saw other people with the flashback heading and then had the flashback scene in a little box...

Anywho, that sounds cool, making all of the [OOC] ...[/OOC], etc. stuff.
