OOC:

Well.......
The original Fernwood Village has died, due to a lack of members, sadly. However, it was an incredibly good idea, and I'm reviving it. THe old thread was very long, and took forever to load, and if you wanted to join, the sheer length made it daunting, so here's a new thread for Fernwood.
Any old members of the original are more then welcome to join. Fernwood is a place where newcomers can practice, so let's be nice shall we? Like the original, there will be no DM. ANything can happen.
((On one quick note, this starts just after the War Of Souls, just after Malystryx has arrived))
So, without further adieu........

Fernwood Village II: Age Of Mortals

BIC:

THen slender pale woman flitted nervously to the middle of the glade, knowing she had to gage how much power this would take, and leaving her enough to escape a Krynn devoid of magic. The legacy of Fernwood had to continue, and she smiled as a trill of birdsong roe from the woods behind her. The crumbling ruins of the ancient castle were still, devoid of goblins or gully dwarves, and all was quiet, save fro the gurgling of the brook.

She waved her hands, humming to herself, and a piece off glowing wood grew up from the ground. It formed the shape of a sign without any letters, and finished growing. She raised her hand, and with one finger, wrote on it it dark blue letters, the words "Welcome Back To Fernwood".
She smiled to herself, then left the glade. The sign stayed as evening approached, and the glade was abandoned again. Hopefully, not for long, this time.

The wind picked up, and the ground began to shake.. A small little plot of land began to rise, ever so slowly into the sky.

First a shingled roof, then white washed walls, with brown trim and creeping ivy surfaced, topped with a door made of solid oak. After a second, the wind calmed and the shaking abated, and where an empty plot of land once stood, appeared a small cottage.

The door opened, and a woman dressed in a rather snug fitting red dress walked out. This isn't to say she was fat, but rather chose to wear clothing that was a bit more revealing.

Taking a deep breath, the blonde woman smiled to the other inhabitant.

"What kind of party would this be without me?" She smiled.

A girl, looking to be around 19 or 20 idly wlked along the path, and ran straight into the sign.

"Yeaaggh!" she yelped, rubbing her nose.
"Damn Age of Mortals. I guarantee you if I had my powers back this wouldn't happen."

She picked a bit of twg out of her long red gold hair, and brushed her bangs out of her face, revealing unusualy large, bright blue eyes. She turned around, and looked over the nearly empty glade, the ruins of the crumbling castle, and the house.

"This looks like my kind of place." she murmured appreciatively. She noticed a blonde woman in a red dress.
"Err, hello?"

The woman smiled to herself, and blinked twice realizing she had a visitor.

"My goodness!" She clasped her hands together. "How do you do? My name is Naomi. I'm new here.. Although-" She paused for a second.
"I'm not exactly sure where HERE is. I just saw this cute little glade and decided it would make such a perfect summer home!"

The woman looked to the little girl.
"Oh I'm sorry. Do come in. I didn't mean to be rude!"

The woman looked to the little girl.
"Oh I'm sorry. Do come in. I didn't mean to be rude!"

The girl raised an eyebrow.
"You can call me Falia." she said.
"Nice place. I've heard of a Fernwood Village, on the road to Tarsis. Apparently it was very strange. The Darl Knights weren't able to conquer it." She looked around.
"Obviously this isn't on the road to Tarsis, but it's called Fernwood. Weird."
She swatted a mosquito.
"It's getting kinda dark isn't it? I probably should get my place rigged up. It's harder now that there's no magic, but I still get along. "

She looked around th glade, and noticed the pale moon's light was beginning to filter through the leaves towards the east. She noticed a tall tree, strong and smooth, with branches fairly low down. She went over to it, and scrambled up agilely.

Falia looked around from the top of the tree. THere wasn't much for a ways, except for trees, the snaky road, and the gurgling brook. She hitched her leather pack off of her back, won off a gnome during a card game, and pulled out a fairly large piece of netting, like the types used in hammocks. She hung it in a square shape on tree branches, and jumped up and down on the middle to make sure it stayed secure. She pulled a large piece of canvas out of her bag, the same size as the netting, and hung it up higher, so that it billowed over her net, like a tent roof.

She tugged out a smaller piece of canvas, and tied it to the netting. She pulled a thin cushion out of the bag, long and rectangular, like a skinny mattress, and fastened it onto the smaller piece of canvas. She piled a couple of blankets on it, stuck in a pillow, and flopped down on her newly made bed. She rolled over on her stomach so she could see Naomi.

"See? Anyone can live comfortably without magic. BUt not as comfortably as with magic."

Naomi chuckled watching the little girl climb up the tree. Her eyes danced with the mirth of a mother watching her offspring play with the other neighborhood children for the first time.

"Don't fall now dear." She said, shaking her head.

Er, I hope that's just a matter of opinion, not literal? Falia's supposed to look about 15,16. Just pointing out:).

Falia raised an eyebrow and grinned. She had forgotten that she looked alot younger then she was, just like an elf.
A slight movement out of the corner of her eye caught her attention. A deer was standing, with it's antlers lowered. A wolf had just attacked it. She glared at the wolf, which had just pulled down the deer, and it gave a howl as it's tail burst into flame. It streaked off towards the brook, yelping all the way.
Falia laughed, and rolled over, swinging down onto the ground.

----------------------------

Eric had his eyes clsoed, concentrating on his blood bond with Strike. The wolf had ambushed the deer and was pulling it down. Riding the wolf's mind, his emotions were more powerful, and less complex. He was overwhelmed wth triumph, and the thrill of a climaxed hunt, when a pain in his animal companion's tail jolted him. His eyes snapped open, as Strike ran towards him, yelping.

My brother, it BURNS!!
Go to the brook. The water will stop it from burning.

The wolf splashed into the shallow, gurgling water, and rolled around, until the fire in his tail had gone out.
That is good, brother.
That is very good. What became of the deer?
The horned one? I brought it down, but I was....distracted. It lies there still. You should claim it. For the pack.
I have said before, we are not pack. I allow brothers, but two do not make pack.
Human nonsense. Pack is family. It has no need of numbers or rules.
We are not a pack

Eric rose and examined the reproachful looking wolfs' scorched tail.
What happened?
I do not know. The fire came from nowhere.
Surely not. Things do not just burst into flame.
My tail did.
It cannot have.
But it did.

Eric sighed in frustration.
Did you see anything unusual?
Yes. Humans have appeared in the woods. Or like humans enough.
Eric's forehead furrowed. No people lived in these woods. How had they come to be here?
You should claim the kill. For the pack.
We are not a pack.
Claim it.
It is dangerous. You say humans are in these woods. That makes danger.
You are human. You claim it. Take it as a gift. Peace between our pack and theirs.
They do not trust those who use any magics that are left.
I will hide in the woods. Go. Claim the kill. For the pack. From ours to theirs.

Eric stared at the wolf.
Very well. Stay in the cave. Stay hidden. None can discover our link, lest they possess the same magic.
Go, brother.

The young man brushed a shock of black hair out of his face, and straightened. He had the appearance of a ranger, with a bow slung at his shoulder and a quiver on his back. His hair was black, and cut aroun his face in an unruly manner. His eyes were a startling brown, almost the color of amber, like Strike's. He followed the memory of the hunt to the spot where the deer lay. He lifted the deer, and tapped into the wolf's senses. The scent of humans was not far. He laid the deer behind some bushes, and approached the glade.

A slender human girl, looking to be about 15 or 16, with bright red gold hair and blue eyes stared at him.
"Who're you???" she asked. He noticed a blonde woman in a red dress as well.

"I am Eric. Why did you attack my companion?"

Naomi gfawed at the goings on between the wolf and the little girl, her laugh almost as high pitched as the girl's howl had been.

"How exciting. You use magic too?" Before the little girl could awnser, a man appeared asking why the girl had attacked her companion.

"'Scuse me.. Um.. Eric? Where exactly do you get off accusing little girls of attacking your companion? And further more, there haven't been ANY attacks around here, besides some wolf trying to kill a deer. How Barbaric, some things, no matter what plane of existance they're on.. never change."

"How exciting. You use magic too?"

Dawn opened her mouth to reply, but a ragged looking man with black hair stepped out of the woods and interrupting her train of thought. Before she knew it, her mouth popped open, and words disconnected from her brain spilled out.
"Who're you?"
He glowered at her.
"I am Eric. Why did you attack my companion?"

Dawn grinned. She loved hearin gsomeone besides herself getting yelled at. It was a refreshing change.
One part caught her attention.
Hang on, plane of existence?????? She's a plane walker?????? Then maybe.....maybe...could she know where a portal is stil....open!?

"You're a plane walker??"

---------
Eric glowered at the blonde woman.
"My companion was living out his way of life. What do you expect him to eat besides deer? Grass???? Berries???"

OOC:I had an idea of where Fernwood II could be. The stretch of coast just below Qualinesti and the plains of Abansinia(Where Solace is) is wooded, so it could be on one of those jutting out peninsulas, towards Enstar.

Leda strolled across the everglades, the lush foliages shimmering in morning's rays.
She inhaled, and then exhaled, feeling invigorated by the fresh smell of nature. A squirrel skittered across her path, and disappeared into one of the bushes that sat humbly in the forest's capricious creation.
Voices from a distances pricked her pointed ears, and with her usual unyielding curiosity, she crept quietly towards it.

Strike lifted his nose to the breeze and sniffed. A two-legs was nearby, elf or human. He pressed himself to the ground, and slunk trough the bushes on his belly. He crept up behind the woman, and growled to announce his prescence.

The two individuals stood there, observing the town curiously.

"Uncle Kyosuke, is this place to your liking?" This was said by a man of twenty. He was clean cut with black hair and a pleasant face and would've been of no importance if not for his unusual features. He had two black, pointed ears on his head, golden eyes and a black fox's tail. His smile exposed fangs. The boy's hands had claws on them. One couldn't tell about his feet because of the sandals and socks he wore. He wore a white kimono and dark blue hakama. By his side was a sword in an attractive scabbard.

Kyosuke frowned at his nephew. "Perhaps Seta. We shall see. I smell humans, but that is preferable to our kind." This man wore dark blue hakama but his kimono was light blue. He was a contrast to the boy in many ways. About forty in appearance, his hair was long, down to his waist. The black hair had a rough quality, the bangs hanging into his eyes. The man looked rough all over. He had golden eyes, fangs and claws. But, his ears were like an elfs and instead one black tail, he had three. At his side were two shorter swords.

"Come Seta. Let's go." He said as he walked towards the village, the boy following behind.

(OOC: In case people were curious, hakama are those big pleated pants that get woren over kimono's.

Also, Kyosuke and Seta are both fox demons/spirits aka Kitsune. But Seta is only half fox.

Seta carries a Katana. Kyosuke carries two wakizashi, Japanese short swords.

A now-adult Calista walked happily through the forest. Her long auburn hair waved lazily behind her half-elven form. She brushed a tendril of long, wavy hair over her shoulder and stopped as the path she was following opened into a glade. Squinting her silver eyes a moment to adjust to the different light, the dragoness read the sign aloud, though softly, "Welcome back to Fernwood," and a smile spread across her face. "Well, they've gone and made another one... not even at the site of the old... Oh well, I should probably go and see what this is all about..."

And with those words to herself, Calista walked into the glade and looked around. She saw the people there and smiled. "Hello!" She said with a grin in Common. She smoothed down her red dress with nimble fingers and looked at each of the people in turn. "So someone has decided to create another Fernwood Village?"

ooc: heh, I wouldn't mind bringing in my "kitsune" though she'd be of different origin than Silvermagess's...and from a definite different time-line ;)

Bic: "Fernwood Villiage?" Came a soft, accented voice. From behind Calista a young woman dropped down from the nearest tree. She had short black hair and almond shaped dark green eyes. She wore clothing that was patched and worn, yet was of such unknown material. boots of finely made leather peeked out from trousers that were known as denim from where this girl came from, and she wore a torn shirt of a soft material...

Belted at her hip and another at her back were two scabbards, each decorated with painted feathers. The carved handle of the longer sword, the Katana was made of ivory and was carved and dyed to depict a red fox with three tails.

"Sounds interesting, It wasn't here the last time I passed through... " She mused as she then focused on the dragoness before her. "Konnichiwa, Greetings stranger... My name is Kiyomi Morisato do you know anything about this new villiage?"

Airiana
04/02/2004 11:16 AM

"Konnichiwa..." The word sounded vaguely familiar to the dragoness and she stood a moment, pondering why it did. Her mother had taught her countless languages or fragments of them when she was young. It was amazing what a plane-walking dragon could learn. Then Calista's eyes widened slightly as she remembered more. This was the language her mother had called Japanese, and it was from a strange planet called Earth whose inhabitants were only humans, and no other sentients at all.

"Konnichiwa, Kiyomi Morisato. I am known as Calista... and this village appears to be a remaking of one that was in this land long ago, though it was not here in this glade," Calista smiled. "I am just as interested to find out as you are, stranger."

Kyosuke and Seta were almost upon the village. "Uncle Kyosuke, do I need to hide myself?"

Kyosuke groaned at the boy's question. Kyosuke could easily make himself human. But, Seta's hanyou blood didn't permit that deciet. Usually they had to resort to hats to cover his ears and even then the boy had to keep his gaze downwards to hide his eyes. Then there was the matter of the boy's fangs and claws. Gloves could be word or the claws could be changed. But, hiding the fangs was difficult and forced to boy to either mumble or not speak at all.

"I think it would be better to chance it Seta. It's too much of a hassle." Kyosuke sniffed the air. His eyes narrowed. "Seta, I smell a fox." Seta looked around sniffing the air with his weaker nose.

"I think I smell her too. But, I can't tell if she's of our clan." Seta looked at his uncle, a hint of distress in his features.

Kyosuke shook his head. "Nay, not of the black fox clan." He wrinkled his nose. "But, it doesn't smell like the red or the white." He looked towards the area. "Come on we will go and see. I'm curious now." He could see they were coming upon a small group already.

Kiyomi smiled and extended her hand to Calista. "You don't smell like an elf...." She commented off-hand, then tensed, sniffing the air cautiously.

Behind the kitsune came a figure, who was silent as night. The figure was tall, maybe six a half feet, and was completely cloaked. Not completely, acutally. The cloak covered all but the boots, tall, greyish boots with steel toes and heels. A veil covered the face, save for two eyes: Two eyes, grey eyes, like ice glaciers, able to cut through everything and all things, save the figure's mother and father, of whom (s)he loved so dearly....

"So this is Fernwood..." Said the figure in a soft whisper, "They would talk about it all time....."

"I am Hyate Kyosuke. And this Hyate Seta, my nephew." He said as he pulled Seta to the side. "Or I guess you would say it Kyosuke Hyate and Seta Hyate." Seta nodded in agreement. The boy then clasped his hands together.

"What we would like to know...is well, do people live here? Is there land here? Possibly for free?" Seta had smile on his face.

Eric glowered at her, though his black hair hid his face very well.
"Whatever you say. This deer is for you to do with as you wish."
He set it down, and headed towards the woods. Suddenly Strike's voice sounded.

Brother! A dragon is near! OTher spirits as well! Be wary!Stay there and watch!
What type of dragon?
I smell ice, but other then that, I know not.

He stopped and turned around. He moved into the shadow of a bush, and seemed to melt in with the back ground, eyes and ears alert.

Falia gawked at the newcomers and the dead deer.
Two figures, dressed in an unusual style were conversing, a person in a black veil, another lone figure, and a elf... that wasn't an elf. All of the faerie's memories of the battles between faeries and dragons rushed to her. DRAGON!!??
She just barely managed to keep herself form howlign in anger, lighting the slender woman on fire, and attacking her. She struggled with herself for a moment, the need to preserve her remaining magic and the knowledge of what race she was, waring with her racial hatred. The need for secrecy won out, and she settled for staring.

Her senses alerted her that the two who waled together were some form of spirits, possibly demons. The black veiled one...

Her glare lightened.

Falia heard the dragon's remark, and it snapped into place. Ankh. She knew that name. SOme sort of shadow elemental, she believed. She repressed a snort. (OOC: So many conversations to keep up with...whew. Though, Kiyomi's nature would've been implied by her conversation with Kyosuke and Seta, who have their true heritige out in the open right now.)

"I'm Falia."
She looked her head to toe.
"Erm, if you donn't mind me prying, er, what are you?"

Kyosuke glanced at the girl. "You wouldn't have had our kind here before. While I can't completly speak for Kiyomi, Seta and I are what are called Kitsune. Or we are also called demon foxes or even spirit foxes. Our kind are known by the locals on the otherside of the continent." He was leaving out the facts of the black fox clan, but he'd rather not have the trouble.

Seta walked around glancing. "We are very surprised to see someone like Kiyo here. But, it still works out." The boy said happily. He'd been worried that they hadn't fled their kind, but Kiyomi was obviously not of any of the three clans.

Calista looked at the woman, trying to place her. "Yes, I am called Calista..." Then it seemed as if lightening struck her as she recognized the girl in an off-hand way. "Are you kin to Lady Ankh?"

"That I am, Calista..." The figure continued again in a quiet but travelling whisper, "My name is Kirsei N'rich de Tae'rach, though I have far more names then that, however my extended title seem too long to explain here and now...." She avoided Calista's eyes, looking at the ground.

The dragoness raised an eyebrow at the one before her, wondering at her downcast eyes. If she is kin to Ankh, then she probably has those same, glacier eyes, she thought to herself.

"Well, Kirsei N'rich de Tae'rach... or may I call you Kirsei? Let us speak more... I have not heard word of the Lady Shadowlark since I was bonded to Zynx! You must tell me what has been going on since then," she smiled, radiating the feeling of happiness towards the woman.

OOC: I still need to look up the meaning of Kiyomi ;)

BIC: Kiyo watched the others carefully, this was the first she had seen of her kind since she was stranded on this world... in one sense it filled her heart... in another it made her wary.

"I too am known as Kitsune, though I do not belive we are of the same breed..." She mused softly her green eyes swept over Kyosuke and Seta. "Though I doubt that will bring any problem between us..." She said.

She was apparently unaffected by the hapiness the dragoness gave off, her somber whisper remaining, "I am eager to remove my clothing, that I know you are a companion to Mother...Let us talk somewhere more private...have you a dwelling here, Calista?"

"Perhaps not." Kyosuke mused. He was looking around the place, hoping to find a clearing. His eyes kept falling to a particular area.

"Seta...is that to your liking?" Seta looked at the spot his uncle was pointing at.

"Yes. It has nice shade. The spells will hold nicely." Seta nodded entuhsiastically.

"It's settled than. If you will excuse us, we have some work to do." Kyosuke nodded to Kiyomi. He and Seta walked off to the clearing and pulled out some long strips of paper. They seemed to be having some discussion having to do with said paper.

Flare and Merith traveled through the woods in there elemental form down to the far edge of the glade. Then they changed to their human form, then watched carefully.
Flare “ I sense evil, I think.”
Merith “What do you mean you think?”
Flare “ Can’t tell the beings that are there, I’ve never seen them before so I can’t tell.”
Merith “....”

"Now.. For some furnishings.." She said. Digging around her bag, she pulled out a small book, and a self standing lamp.

Sitting in her chair, she picked up her book, and began reading idly.. watching the conversations unfold.

A house formed right in front of him. Kyosuke wiped his brow, smiling. "Nothing like unpacking after a move."

Falia jumped aside and stared as two more houses sprouted out of the gorund.
"Blast it, all these houses ar growing everywhere, this isn't a village, it's a house orchard!"

She flopped on the grass beside Naomi's chair.
"Well, this certainly seems like a growing village."
She propped herself up on her elbow, and idly began to pluck off pieces of it.
"I wonder what castle that is." she remarked, eyeing the crumbling ruin.
"I wonder who put up that sign too."

Meanwhile.......

Far away, beyond Falia's scope of knowledge, in a place of darkness, a shadow moved.
" White witch? You try and hide this from me? Pitiful. We shall see what becomes of your beloved champions."
The figure rose, and spread dark ings, flitting through the desecrated land, and through the dark woods, leaving nothing but the fluttering of dead leaves in her wake.

Kyosuke nodded. "For most that is true. But, we use a system called Chakra. It's an energy that flows through the body and that we channel into different tasks. You could compare it to mysticism, except that would be inaccurate.

And we also have items that have the magic of the god's stored in them."

Seta had ran up to the house. "Uncle, we should have some sake tonight. And plus, maybe if you could get a rabbit? I'm hungry."

Kyosuke shook his head. "All he ever has on his mind is food." Kyosuke began to walk off into the woods. As he did, he changed. In his place was a fox, no different from any other save that it's fur was black and it had three tails. Kyosuke ran off, disapearing into the bushes with a rustle.

Kirsei was getting fidgety...she could not stand to be in the same place for very long at all. She reached into the hood of her cloak to scratch an itch, a wind taking the rest of the hood and letting it fall down to her back. She cursed softly to herself, and clutched the veil around the lower part of her face, tying it tightly so the wind would not be able to loosen it as it did the hood.

She did not appear unusual at all and let down any expectations of one who expected to see something interesting that she had been keeping so secret. Her gaze was downcast, and her hair was a grey..but it did not seem to be the grey of age, instead, just a natural platinum-like color. She would turn one way and it would seem that the grey was streaked with black, but if she looked another way, the streaks would be brown rather then black....yet anothet turn in direction and they would perhaps be green, or red...they did not stay the same color, and did not always remain there to begin with...It was long enough to slide into her cloak, falling stra

Her skin was smooth and pale, flawless. Flawless, perhaps, unnaturally so, for she did not appear beautiful in a typical sort of way...odd, indeed. Her movements were fluid, again, unnaturally, making even elves seem jerky. There was no way this woman could have been human, and it would have been a stretch for her to be even mortal.

She grabbed the hood from her neck and quickly pulled it back over her face, carefully tucking her hair back into her hood. Turning back, so the wind only blew her hood more onto her, she paced, her booted feet making marks where she stepped back and forth.

Kiyo yawned, and decided that she too couldn't even start to build her home, without eating.... if she indeed decided to even build...

Kiyo was a Kit born Kitusne... born in fox form. And in her time both of her parents were kitsune, making her a special breed, commonly known as a Metis. Where she was from it was a rarity that one's parents were both Kitsune... and, unfortunately, at her birth, both her parents died, leaving her with her older half-brother and her grandparents.

She had long preferred her fox or Juko form... but was raised in her human form... and by sheer habit, assumed it most of the time.

She too shifted, hair becoming a soft silver-grey with black markings on her feet and ears. However, she chose her Juko form, a form of a fox the size of a large wolf, also with three tails like Kyosuke. Yawning again, she stretched languidly.

Calista smiled at Kirsei. "Yes, I suppose we are... an odd contradiction to each other, that is. But then, I believe my Mother and Ankh were the same," she said sardonically as they walked through the forest.

When she judged they'd gone far enough away, Calista motioned for Kirsei to step away from her and the dragoness began to change. Her long, auburn hair grew longer and enveloped her entire body, becoming the large silver-red scales they truly were. Her face elongated and her fang teeth did likewise. Leathery wings sprouted from between her shoulder blades and her elegant fingers became claws. A tail appeared from seemingly no where and grew in length as her knees bent backwards and her feet became claws much the same as her hands had. She grew in size until she was her true height: around thirty feet tall. With her tail, she was about fourty-five feet in length.

Calista folded her wings back and knelt down. "Climb upon my back, Kirsei," she said as softly as she could. "I will make a harness for you once you seat yourself there, and then we shall ride... I think that any city should be of enough size... perhaps we should journey to Palanthas? Yes, I think it will suit us well enough." She said, her reptilian snout forming into a smile.

PrincessOfDarkness

Kirsei nodded once, climbing. THe cloak around her body clung around her, as if some creature that wanted to protect the half-shadow. Not like anyone would want to protect me... she thought to herself as her mind conjured up the similie, chuckling softly, "I do not need a harness, Calista, I assure you, I will not fall off if I do not wish it to be so. Do not worry about it."

She leaned back as if there were some invisible backrest supporting her, gazing down at the silver red scales as her whispering tone quieted.

Airiana
04/19/2004 7:06 AM

Calista flicked her tail in a draconic gesture of a shrug. "Suit yourself; most riders are very much afraid to be that high in the air without something supporting them besides the dragon on which they ride... even though I could easily catch anyone if they did fall." She said, her head snaked back on her long neck to regard Kirsei cooly for a moment. "But then, you are not like 'most' anyone, are you?" She asked, a reptilian grin on her face as she noticed the half-shadow lean back.

The dragoness turned her attention from her passenger and to her takeoff. She opened her wings and beat them a couple of times experimentally before settling back on her haunches and leaping into the air, springboarded by her back legs that were coiled under her only moments before. She snapped open her leathery wings and was soon rising in the air without much more than the sound of those wings.

Once they were high enough, Calista glided on the hot air thermals and aimed herself for Palanthas...

PrincessOfDarkness
04/19/2004 5:12 PM

"Do you land in Palanthas?" She asked, unease growing in her voice, "I am not much fond of cities with a populace as large as such.....would you be so kind as to fly to another town, a smaller one, or perhaps we could merely rest in the forest somwhere, of this i would prefer much more then a bustling city such as Palanthas, there are far too many people for my preference, if you can understand, of course...." She trailed off into silence, glancing around herself as the clouds as the wind again threw down her hood.

This time, however, she appeared different. Her silvery hair varied in color as before, but it no longer fell long into her hood. Now it was short, no longer then her shoudlers and falling in spikes around her face. Speaking of which, the flawless pale skin that she had shown before was now adorned in runic tattos of grey ink, covered almost all of her face in spirals and shapes. What space was not covered by the grey ink was the pale skin that she had shown before. Her eyes were solid ovals of grey. The veil still hung securely over her lower face, keeping it securely hidden for all that tried to see, "I would much prefer a forest, or somewhere mostly deserted."

Airiana

Calista looked back at Kirsei and noted her remarkedly changed appearance. "We could stop off soon; there is forest enough that there are no others around... in fact, there are only a few animals there," she smiled, pausing a moment to send out her senses below her to check the forest.

Having done thus, Calista began and easy, spiraling glide down to the ground, stopping just short of the trees and gliding over them to find a clearing large enough to land in. Once she did, she landed as gently as she could and waited for Kirsei to dismount herself as she folded her wings. "So, what's with the random changes in appearance anyways?" The dragoness asked, curiousity filling her voice as she lowered herself to the ground, making an easier jump-off point for Kirsei.

"So, what's with the random changes in appearance anyways?"

"I do not think they would appriciate my true appearance, therefore, it remains changed when i am in the presence of those who I do not know, or have no connections too otherwise. I learned that when I was a child." It seemed her eyes smiled wryly, her mouth hidden, "This is my true form, but the world thinks that one who appears as such has any kindness and benevolence in them, I have been attacked several times for merely dropping the illusion you saw earlier. I assume yourself, being such as a dragon of mixed colors, can understand my problem. I am aware you know my mother, therefore, I assumed you should be alright with me showing my appearance." She explained as she climbed off Calista's back to assume a crosslegged posistion on the floor, "There is of course more to explain, but that is the short version."

"I understand how most here can be... less than accepting of differences... thus the reason that I usually take a mortal form. And I do not have any problem seeing you in your true form, if you have none of seeing mine," she smiled sardonically. "Now, I do not mean to barrage you with question, but... well, it has been since I was a youngling that I saw your mother... how is Lady Ankh doing? When were you born? Who is your father, or are they the same... being Lady Krystal and...the Shadowlord? Where have you and Lady Ankh been and why haven't you come to Fernwood sooner?" She asked, then she realized the multitude of questions. "It is quite alright," Her eyes smiled geniunely, "I will answer them. Mother is perfectly fine, she is well on her travels around Krynn and such other planes, the reason she has not returned is that she is currently travelling on the outer planes, and it is very difficult to go there and back, she does not want to risk coming here and not being able to return. Calista nodded her head to all the questions answered, filing them to tell her mother the next time she saw her. "Mother and Father are... at odds, at the moment. To be quite honest, I think they became lifemates to begin with only because they were both hybrids of the same species..." Here the dragoness shrugged--an odd-looking gesture for a dragon, that was no doubt picked up from living among mortals for so long. "Father is still in the original Fernwood, not this copy... and Mother is travelling. I think she decided to pay a visit to the homeland... the Dragon Isles." She said, her eyes looking far away for a moment before she shook her head and returned to the present. Perhaps they left on some sort of vacation with all intentions to return..but no matter...what is important is that I have found what I have been looking for, one of the original inhabitants, you. Perhaps I shall visit Matthias as well, my interest is piqued...and it will provide another map, of course, I am told I am quite the cartographer..." Make the originals and then apprentice someone to copy them and sell them... I am sure you could make quite a profit." "They are wonderful! Such detail, and I must say that they look almost exactly as the places do themselves when I fly overhead. You should go into business doing this. Make the originals and then apprentice someone to copy them and sell them... I am sure you could make quite a profit." Calista said with a smile as she went back to studying the maps laid before her.

"Well, of course they look just like when you fly over them...that's exactly how I drew them. I floated over them and drew them, it helps take up the time when you have as much time as I do on my hands." She sighed, "There is little to do for one who cannot risk being in public who cannot completely control how she looks or feels," Self-consciously, she pressed the veil to her face, ""Therefore...I do what I can alone. I am an explorer and a mapmaker." She shrugged, "I merely am."

Calista looked up at the woman before her and noted her unease. "If you feel so wary about how you look in public... "Dont' be sorry. You couldn't have known. I understand how you feel, and you need not feel it. Do not be sorry, for I have not blown up anything...yet. I have survived pretty well for who and what I am...as have you, of course. I'd say we are quite the pair of misfits, wouldn't you say, Calista? Calista seemed to brighten at Kirsei's words, going from her earlier meloncholy so quickly that some would be startled by it--the was one of the few ways the dragoness showed how young she still was, though she hardly ever noticed it. "Yes, we are at that!" She smiled ruefully. "You definitely can't get much more 'outcasted-like' than that!" Her grin spread even farther as to now her wickedly sharp teeth could be seen almost fully, her lips raised in such a grin. "But at the same time, I am sure that we have much we could teach each other... both of us have drifted this world over, but on very different levels, and have seen different parts of it. I am sure that we could think of some interesting tales to tell each other!"

"Only if you want to hear the story of the way a stream flows over rocks, or how the clouds shift on certain days, would my stories interest you. The only story I can speak of is the story of the way the trees blow, or how the wind rolls over the rocks in certain ways. My tales are in the simplicity of things. How snowflakes fall, and why the pebbles at the bottom of a stream get smaller. Why it doesn't hurt when you bite your figernail. How ink flows from a piece of paper." She smiled that strange smile with her eyes again at Calista, "It does not seem to me like you would want to hear how ink flows from a pen to paper. You seem far too young and jumpy for that such."

Calista smiled. "When I was first charged to see the world... when I was first considered an 'adult'... I spent quite a bit of time in the forest, and so those things appealed to me quite a bit. Those were all things that I learned to appreciate and love, but soon after I moved on to more complicated things, like mortals," she said, grinning again. "And to be honest, it has been quite some time since I've even thought about something so simple as wind blowing through trees."

Kirsei chuckled, "It is the simple things I gain pleasure from in life...I have not lived in a house for twenty years, I have not visited a city for more then an hour all my life..I do not know any other way then this. My life is spent watching the water run over the stones in the rivers, and mapping out cities from above. I am also some what a scholar....." She pulled a notebook from the case, showing Calista her sketches and information about the various natural things, "However, I am sure it is not much of interest to you...."

Kyosuke ran through the forest, enjoying a moment of freedom. The fox form was his actual body, but was inconvient when compared to his other form. Still, there were moments he enjoyed like this, where he could hunt and play to a certain extent.

He suddenly sank to the ground as he sensed something. He could see a small patridge walking, bobbing it's head up and down. After a moment, he leaped, snaring the bird. There was a short struggle before it lay limp.

In another flash, a red elf in blue plate mail appeared by his side, and whispered in his ear. The man exclaimed, chanted from the letter, and they both disappeared.

Cly had noticed the amusement in the girls eyes, but he did not mind, he supposed he was an unusual sight, with so many odds and ends hanging off his clothes. However, many served some purpose, while others were just memories from his extensive travels. He had collected protective charms from the four corners of the world, and many more secrets were hidden in his old, worn, traveler's cloak. Even a normal walking stick at his side, by no means a wizards staff; caught light from the sun, showing silvery reflections from arcane runes he had learned.

"Yes, my pleasure. I expect there is an inn, somewhere nearby, correct? Could you please direct me to it? I have decided to seek a permanent home, after many travels. If you have any advice, it would be very helpful."

At that moment his nephew leapt in front of him. "Seta, you're still not good enough to surprise me." Kyosuke frowned, shaking his head. The hanyou kicked at the ground.

"Geez, Uncle Kyo. But, one of these days I'm going to spook you." The boy looked the older man, his fox ears folded down in displeasure.

"Whose that..?" Kyosuke pointed the newcomers. Seta shrugged. Kyosuke cocked his head and listened to the conversation...

"Hey, Seta the house has enough room for a few guests, right?" The boy cocked his head to the side.

"Yeah..." Kyosuke grinned.

"It's settled." He worked over to the people who were talking. "Why hello there. My name is Hayate Kyosuke. Or as just plain Kyosuke or Kyo. I heard you were looking for an Inn?" Kyosuke shook his head. "Sadly Sir, there is no fully functioning inn of which to speak. But, me and my nephew," he gestured at Seta, "would be more then happy to set you up. That is, if I'm not being to presumptuous."

Falcon rode in to the village, talking to Gymis(his horse)which was one of the few talents he had.

OOC: Wow, shadow master, I'm impressed. Most people wouldn't have posted again, or posted to say how angry they were, and flounced out again. A few things on your post though. Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing, just trying to help you out a bit.

Falcon rode in to the village, talking to Gymis(his horse)which was one of the few talents he had.

Ok, you need to work with your detail here. For instance, he was talking to Gymis, but what did he say? Try something more like

Falcon spurred Gymis onward, speaking to him which was a talent of his.
::::This is an example, not a stealing of your characters, Gymis said.
::::I know. Detail is important, especially dialogue, Falcon replied

See how much better that sounds? And don't worry about putting who each character is beside their name, like you did here

Gymis(his horse)

People are supposed to remember that, and if they don't, it's their fault, and they'll ask.:D

Flame(his dragon)flew over head

Ok, here, why don't you try describing Flame a bit? For instance, is he big, little, huge? What color is he? What kind is he? What's his full name? Did he land in the village? Here's another example.

His dragon, Flamewhohasalongdragonname, known for short as Flame, flew overhead, his golden scales gleaming brightly in the fading sunlight. The small dragon circled the village, coming to a landing.

A little detail goes a long way.

Falcon could see there were no inns so he desided to pich his tent on the out scerts on Fernwood village.

((I believe it's "outskirts":)))
A quick note about Fernwood for later reference. There are only a few structures at the moment. My character, Falia, lives in a tree. there are two houses, one belonging to Naomi, a planewalker, and one belonging to the two Kitsune. So there aren't really outskirts. ((Or any kind of skirts for that matter:D)) Why not try something a little more detailed like......

Falcon could see that none of the few buildings were inns, so he decided to pitch a tent by the edge of the clearing that made up Fernwood Village.

See?
Don't worry, though. Practice makes perfect, and you're already doing better then you were in your first post. The spelling isn't to much of a problem, just be careful. Everybody can misspell when they're in a hurry. Falcon sounds like a interesting character, and I'm looking foward to hearing more from him.

IC:
Falia got up, brushing off stray bits of grass and dirt. She shrugged, and went over to where Falcon had stopped.
"Need any help with your tent?" she asked.

Somewhere within the forest...

The massive minotaur stared at his compass with bewilderment. He realized the needle is spinning endlessly around. "What magicks would do this," he spat through tightened jaws.

Eyeing the log in front of him he decides to take a rest. He has spent days trying to find a way out to open ground and wonders if he would ever acheive his goal. Hearing the songbirds whistles brightened his dour mood. Inhaling deeply he began to sing a song his mother taught him as a child. The harsh chant rattles the wildlife from miles around sending them fleeing.

Kour Shatterhorn lowered his black-haired head in sadness. "I am now truly alone," he guffawed.

He lowered his hood, lettenig his hair free. It was streaked with iron colored, but now streaked with gray, countering his youthful face.

"Yes, I am older than I look. Some distant elvish heritage runs through my family, and I have been fortunate to recieve many benefits from it." Even as he said this, however, his eyes dulled, and his smile faded, at some remembered pain. He continued, and his voice ad quieted minutely, only noticeable to the finest ears.

Finally Falcon desided he would like to be high up,so then it was desided,he would build himself an elfen tower out of only the finest wood he could find........maybe even he could find some Cloudtouchers!!!
Falcon thought it woud be better if he started in the morning,so he made himself some dinner and sleept.
The next morning Falcon and Flame-a medium size dragon, black scales and silver flashing eyes-Flame was just a name which was short for Silver Flame.
When Falcon entered the woods he could hardly belive his eyes there where Cloudtouchers everywhere!!!

Falia looked around. Night had truly fallen, but the silvery light of Solinari illuminated the thicket.
"I'm hungry." she muttered to no one in particular. She grabbed her bag, and rummaged around. Her fire from earlier had gone out, which she remedied with a ferocious glare. The fire crackled up, filling the clearing with a shivery, warm light. She instantly felt better in the prescence of her element, and dove into her magic bag. After rummaging for a while, she pulled out a few ingredients.

After a few minutes of mixing, a pan of little bread rolls was cooking over the fire. She felt better, and the fire responded growing larger and warmer.

Eric returned to the clearing, dropping a game bird by the fire.
"Would you cook this? Strike's bringing company. He found a minotaur, somehow."

Falia eyed him a moment, then shoved a pan into his hands.
"You have to pluck it. I'll cook it for soup."

He nodded, and started pulling the feathers out. His amber eyes, exactly like those of his wolf companion, were almost completely hidden behind the fall of his black hair. He watched Falia move about, her eyes gleaming brightly in the firelight. Eric had never felt this way around anyone else, and it terrified him more then a little.

His thoughts were cut short by the fire faerie shoving a tea kettle at him.
"Go get me some water from the spring, please."
Eric sat the bird down, and trudged off to the spring.

When he returned, Falia shoved a handful of spices into the tea, and set it on to boil. He returned to plucking his bird. After a few minutes, he put the bird down, and handed it to her. It took only a few minutes to get it ready, and soon it was cooking with a savory smell. Eric flopped on the grass, watching her. He shook hs head, baffled at the feelings a simple girl could stir up.

Kour caught an overwhelming essence of spices in the air. His stomach rumbled fiercly urging him to find source of torment. The minotaur picked up the pace finally reaching the clearing his guide promised. The moons light was a welcome comfort. In the distance Kour could see the silouettes of two people and....

"A flying tea kettle! How wonderful," he replied to Strike.

Keeping his distance the Minotaur waited before revealing himself, but his unruly belly wanted to be filled.

"Hello there, I am Kour Shatterhorn. May I approach, your cooking has ensnared my senses," he spoke with enthusiasm.

May I approach, your cooking has ensnared my senses," he spoke with enthusiasm.

Falia looked around.
"Uh, sure. The soup's almost done, as are the bread-rolls. Have a seat."
She waved around the campfire vaguely.
"Sit where you like. Just don't sit on Eric."

Strike came trotting over to Eric, and began to busily lick his face.
Little Brother, while you sleep, I bring home friends.
Eric tried to hide his face from the insisten wolf, and couldn't help laughing.
Ask the faerie. She might have meat for you, my Brother.

Strike sat on his haunches, eyeing Falia. She ignored him for a minute, then threw him a generous portion of bird. He dragged a little ways off, and curled up next to the standing minotaur.

This is pack. the wolf informed both Eric and Kour.

"Coming sir?"

"Oh, what was that? Yes of course." Cly snapped back into focus, and followed the young man. When he got to his room, he sat down on a small bed, and started unpacking his donkey. As Seta turned to leave, Cly asked him to help with something heavy, a small cupboard. When that was done, Cly looked at Seta.

"I mean not to pry, but I am curious. I have never seen such intriguing people during all my travels of Ansalon. Even your archtecture is different. Would you mind humoring an old man's curiosity? Unless of course you want to eat first, I can see that dinner is ready."

Seta smiled. "Oh, it's no trouble at all. Besides, my uncle isn't going to be in yet. He'll want to make some arrangements." He sat down, making himself comfortable.

"We call ourselves Kitsune in our own language. That essentially means fox spirit or fox demon." He glanced around the place.

"And yes, our architecture, language, ect is strange. That's because according to the old stories, our distant relatives came from another country, or as some call it a dimension."

"Three clans were brought. Each, based on their natures allied themselves with either good, evil or the balance. White, red and black. Like the three moons. My uncle and I are from the black clan." He held his hands up suddenly.

"But, we're aren't like those people from our clan. There isn't any harm!" He shook his head. "But, anyways...each clan holds it's own lands. We aren't heard of by any large number of people. That's because Kitsune have the power of illusion and can take on many forms. And," Seta whispered, "They're probably lucky if they don't see us again, you know what I mean?" Suddenly his ear twitched and his eyes went wide.

"Oh no! I need to heat up the sake! I'll talk later sir! Besides, my uncle knows a lot more." He ran off to the kitchen.

Kyosuke walked into the room as Seta ran by. "That boy..." He looked at Cly. "So, how are you finding everything?"

tramping through the underbrush, another joined the group. He was slightly above average in height, and of medium build. He had long straight hair the color of burnished Steel, eyes the color of the twilight sky. He wore clothing similar to an elven ranger, but it was clear that though his coloring was exotic, he was human, or at the least looked like one.

though he was dressed as a ranger, he wore no weapon save for a dagger that was tucked under his belt. He moved towards the camp with a confidant step. The sight of the Silver dragon didn't phase him in the least, in fact, he fairly ignored the wyrm.

Nervously, Kour sipped his tea staring at his hostess. As a child his adopted mother would painstakingly try to instill proper etiquette to little avail. The memory of her would always lift his spirits as well as make him laugh.
An Elven mother to a minotaur youngling does create quite a laugh.

She snorted.
"Don't bother. What else was I supposed to do, send you off into the woods?"

She lifted the lid on the soup pan, and stirred it with a carved wooden spoon.
"Soup's done!" she announced. Eric slept on, oblivious. She frowned, and whacked him on the head with the soup covered spoon. He yelped, and sat up, blinking like an owl.
"WHA-! Who! Wher-?" He saw her holding the spoon.
"Hey! What'd you do that for!"
She ignored him, shoving a wooden bowl of soup in his general direction. Shaking his head, he helped himself to a spoon, and started to eat the tasty soup.
Falia scooped up some soup for the minotaur, offering it to him with a wooden spoon.
"In a minute we'll have rolls too." she stated, busying herself at the fire. In a few minutes, she ahd pulled the rolls out, and they were perfectly done, is a little on the doughy side. She beamed at the rolls, and scooped them off the pan, flinging one in Eric's direction, and handing one to the minotaur. After helping herself to some soup, she grabbed a roll , and started eating.

"My name is Kour...Kour shatterhorn, it is a pleasure to meet you Lady Falia," he replied.
"And is this your mate?," he spoke with a sneer.

The minotaur dug in to his soup eager to watch the events unfold between the two humanoids. A very negative trait he pick up from the Kender was the art of the taunt. Either he would recieve a black-eye or a sarcastic chuckle, the only way knew how to judge someone is to test them.

"And is this your mate?,"

Two very similar, yet different reactions came from both of them. With a bizarre gagging noise, Eric choked on a roll, gasping and spluttering, rolling around on the ground. Strike thought this was hilarious, and bounded over to his companion, licking his face. Falia, on the other hand, took a minute for the comment to sink in. The conversation around the campfire was enough to cover the approach of the stone giant until he could smell cooked meat. He liked spiced, cooked meat. Flamed until it did not hold the taste of man impurities.
And it had been far too long since he had last supped. Feasting on drunken merchants always gave him gas, but the way they went up in flames..

Gyorge had seen a great many seasons pass, and the night of the eye this year would mark his one hundred and upteenth life-day. He was as large as his cave could allow, a full 45 feet from toes to scalp. Years of marauding has kept him in his prime and physically fit beyond the norm. Gyorge always takes the risk, likes to challenge his own mortality in an attempt to justify his being. His skin is rock grey, sheer as the face of a slate cliff, and tough as nails. He was smart for his kind, leaping into the fray but not opposed to leaping out as well.
Gyorge had been trailing a caravan as it passed his cave nearby when he had heard the sound of timber crackling. It took him a while to locate the tree that had been felled, and something in him raged at the rapine. That, his considerable hunger, and the fact that he had a rash forming between his legs put him in a fell mood indeed..

Back in Fernwood..
From the campfire, flurrys of fire-motes and embers rose in curling wisps, as the ground shook slightly, an omen of Big trouble. The occupants of the homes in the clearing look about in confusion and awe as racks shake and timbers creak. Repeatedly the great shakes rock the foundation of Fernwood, disturbing occupants human and animal, with each rumble gaining in strength and resonance. Finally, with a silence that reaches out and clutches at the courage of each of the pioneers, the quaking stops..

Gyorge halted in the trough of his passing through the woods, and drew his weapon, a huge splintered branch from an ironwood tree. The roaring blaze in front of him promised a great feast of flesh tonight.
Gyorge squatted down and clenched his leg and stomach muscles, giant, corded masses of pure muscle and tendon utilizing their full potential in a gathering of strength.
"IM HAVING MEAT TONIGHT!!" He bellowed, his echoing voice booming across the clearing, the raw need and declaration leaving no room for doubt. Up he went then, in a great leap that carried him well over fifty yards, to land in the midst of the encampment, faced with a small entourage of tasty morsels, who had not been sitting idly through his approach..

"In these days you can never be too careful." His point was emphasized as he was shaken by another rumble. Cly drew his rapier and gripped his staff, rushing outside.

Eric sat on a tree, eating his soup quietly. He had, obviously, never been a social person. He had never really had much human contact, but he was taking to it more easily than he would have guessed. Even so, he was worn out quickly, and now was quiet on the stump. Then, however, a giant, grey and, well, giant humanoid landed heavily in the midst of the camp. Eric rolled off the stump, grabbing a bow and quiver of arrows.

Battle. This he knew.

He shot three arrows quickly, dipping them in the fire before loosing them. His wolf stood and prepared to leap.

No brother! Eric thought loudly, He'd kill you with a step!

Gyorge had every intent of reducing that flaming-sticker-thrower-weilding human to a puddle of goop but was forestalled by one of the other items of his meal this evening.
The raised voice of a manling called up to Gyorge, drawing his attention.

"In my hand I hold Smite, giant killer! Desist, or I will be forced to use it!"

''Hufawaahahaha..'' Gyorge let out a tent shaking roar of a laugh, mocking the very thought of him leaving without a man-flesh in his stomach. ''Brave you are little man. But your puny stick cannot harm Gyorge!'' The giant growled deep in his chest and displayed his massive weapon, gave the abbreviated tree a shake that sent bark and sticks flying. Gyorge's monstrous eyes squinted at the tiny metal object speeding his way. At another time he would have roared his mirth in the face of such a weak looking thing. But that cautious side of him, the side that tells him not to poke the great sleeping lizard, not to swallow without chewing, made him carefully check his amusement and act.

Bringing up his weapon with alarming speed, Gyorge swatted the minute metal object, intending to fling it away from him and then pounce on the first of his belated repast. How he roared in shock and indignation as his mighty weapon flung backward to strike him soundly in the face.
A loud thunderclap deafened Gyorge for all of five breaths and his chest stung where he had hit himself. Looking dumbly at his weapon, now sporting a large jagged hole down the middle, Gyorge had to admit a new respect for this curious manling.

Shock soon passed into anger, and Gyorge was up on his feet in no time. "Gyorge not hurt! Gyorge hurt you's! Gyorge smash!!"
Anger overwhelmed the giant, and he fell into a rage that was taken out on the nearest tree. Gyorge leveled the tree as if it were but a sapling with one mighty blow from his sundered weapon. The tree split in his hand and half careened off into the night, to crash among branches somewhere in the distance.
"Gyorge shmash!!" The giant was red-faced with rage and hurled himself at the manling who had caused him humiliation. He charged head-on with mighty sweeps of his smaller, splintered, club.
