So far, I've managed to avoid anything related to Tenchi or Gundum. Amazing isn't it? I might get around to them eventually. Remember, I only started this about 2 and a half years ago.

Not too bad, dude. I won't comment on Tenchi, but you might want to reconsider taking on Gundam. Its nothing really great, except maybe Gundam Seed (which I actually also didn't find all that impressive, really, heh). The rest that i've seen just don't strike me as being memorable, tho' Turn A was kind of unique for its Huckleberry Finn style setting.

Hmmm... did I include VanDread in my list? Or did I leave that out?

Oh, suddenly remembered another favourite non-anime (but mostly produced by Japanese) cartoon from my childhood. "The Last Unicorn". Anyone seen it?

Yup I do!! I own it on DVD too they just relesed it on it recently too ;)

Sigh, but speaking of ship captains, the one who was commander of the Futune (the fleet with the crimson flagship) was cool too.

Spoor dies? Sweet! Haven't seen the last few eps of season two yet, but she's always been annoying to me.

Does anyone read Abh/Ahvo writing?

Yes, in fact, Here's a site about it. (http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Shrine/4777/Seikai/language.html)

And while I've seen variations on a few names, not that many most of the time. Although getting Arucard instead of Alucard is annoying sometimes, especially since its supposed to be dracula spelled backwards.

Course, what's worse is when they change the names entirely, such as the Gally / Alita switch. That one, I can deal with, but others, such as Rahula to Rafra (Ryvius), or the worst, Luke to Rock (Metropolis).

Oh, and BTW, Thistle, your pic needs to be resized!

Oh, they had an entire section devoted to that on the DVD, plus of course not a few fansites rave about it. But i don't really think its something all that special tho'. There's been many adaptations before Crest, plus lots of resurrections of dead works. Not just from novel to anime (Perfect Blue), but novel to movie and game (think parasite eve). Turning stuff from one media type to another is hardly new, America does it all the time, come to think of it.

I think, in the end, that its the quality of the adaptation that matters most. I found the LoTR trilogy to be perfectly alright, despite marked departure from the book in some scenes.

Oh, and how could you hate Spoor? She's so cool!!! (You probably hate Dilandau from the Escaflowne TV series too, don't you? :D:D:D:D:D) Oh, but be warned, there are even MORE irritating captains among the Abh fleet. A pair of them, to be exact.

thistledown
05/14/2004 9:52 PM

Yes, I've met those captains, but I'm not as annoyed by them yet. And while Dilandau is annoying, (and insane), I didn't hate him.

And I was refering to the novel thing because it's rare for Anime to do that. Most of the time, anime starts as a manga, then to anime, but rarely actual novels, as far as I know.

And i just mentioned another example of an anime that does that in my previous post. There are more than a few actually, and not all are adaptations of Japanese novels. Besides of which, what i'm trying tosay is that its not really a matter of where or what an anime was adapted from, and how much it resembles the original, what's important is that it should stand be able to stand on its own. It would be kinda pointless to just randomly adapt novels into anime just because its something that isn't done often.

Just saw Troy and Van Helsing. Ask me questions about them if you want.

Anyway, some movie news I've gotten:

1) There will be a Fantastic Four movie, with everyone becoming younger (Reed's gonna be 21???) and it'll be a 'family action COMEDY'!! Oh, and Dr Doom's name is probably changed to Dr Damn, cos he was originally Victor Von Doom, but in the early draft of the screenplay, he's changed to Victor Van Damn. Cool name huh?

2) Might be a Bruce Almighty 2... working on the script.

3) They are preparing for a Hellboy 2.

Well, that's all.

I heard about that one as well. Looking forward to it.

I've got a question about Van Helsing. I talked to one other person who has seen it, and they said the movie sucked (no pun intended). Now, I don't know whether I can trust that person or not, but I can trust you Swifty. So, how was Van Helsing? Entertaining? Or did it just blow?

Ok guys I don’t have much of a anime background. Since you all seem to be very knowledgeable I thought could get some ideas on what to watch next. You see between my younger brother and my best friend I have seen the following anime. (Please forgive me if something I list is not technically considered anime for I’m still very new to all of this.)

Record of Lodoss War
NightWalker: Midnight Detective
Ninja Scroll
Spirited Away
Kiki's delivery service
Princess Mononoke
Cowboy Bebop
Ranma ½
Rurouni Kenshin TV(this is my fav. I got the whole first season on dvd for Christmas from my brother..I was sooo thrilled not to mention surprised.)
Witch Hunter Robin TV

This is what I seen and I liked it all. I was thinking of going to a convention called Otakon since it is right here in town…Baltimore, Maryland that is. Only about 45 mins to an hour from where I live. My best friend is trying to get me to go but I know so little of Anime that I’m not sure if I should go or not.

Oh btw…I love The Transformers Movie! I know this isn’t anime but someone mentioned it so I have to put inmy 2 cents.

eswiftfire
05/15/2004 11:09 AM

Van Helsing = It's non-stop action, eye-candy. Chase scenes, fighting scenes etc etc, with some minor dialogue inserted in between. You might have fun, but for me, I felt bored.

Troy = Pretty spectacular battle scenes (almost rival LoTR movies'... almost, well, nearly... okay, maybe it's not THAT near, but way more spectacular than the one you saw on Last Samurai). The characters MIGHT make you feel SOMETHING (like disdain for Orlando Bloom's Paris... haha). But it's nothing special, actually. You might have a good time in the cinema, but after that, I doubt you'll be talking or thinking about it once you've gone home.

thistledown
05/15/2004 11:24 AM

Actually, I count Transformers as Anime. Haven't heard of nightwalker, but the rest of those all are anime too.

Let's see, if you like Kenshin for the time period, you could try Peacemaker Kurogame, which is set just before the Bakumitsu (Saito's in it!). It's from the viewpoint of the Shinsen Gumi.

I would also recomend R.O.D. tv to anybody. The OVA's good too.

While I liked Ryvius a great deal, most people don't, so I guess I shouldn't recomend it.

Love Hina will keep you amused for a while, and X/1999 is very good (the series is, the movie sucked)

If you want to pick up another Ghibli movie, wait until aug 31 when the new english dub of Nausicaa is released. Great movie.

Otakon since it is right here in town…Baltimore, Maryland that is.

Otakon? Damn... MegaTokyo is probably putting up a panel there again this year. Sigh. Well, aussie's got its own con going in Sydney later, in about two months time i think. Hey Swifty! I think you're outta luck! There are no really big anime cons in Perth, dude, heh. :D:D:D

Ok guys I don’t have much of a anime background. Since you all seem to be very knowledgeable I thought could get some ideas on what to watch next.

Well... Thistle's given some solid suggestions, and if you like Cowboy Bebop for style and action, you might find Hellsing entertaining, even if the ending is a little bit of a letdown. But what the heck, you do have Witch Hunter Robin on your list anyway. Plus if you like swordfighting action, you might also consider getting into Vision of Escaflowne (tho i would only reccomend the TV series and not the movie). Besides there's also the whole fantasy aspect to Escaflowne that might appeal to Lodoss War fans.

Hmm.... i don't see any giant robot mecha genre titles there, except that you did mention you liked transformers, so if you like the idea of reconfigurable vehicles, you might enjoy the Macross Plus Movie, tho' come to think of it, some back knowledge of the Macross Universe might be essential to fully enjoy it.

But if you want to try and experiment with some other genres of anime, you could try Serial Experiments Lain, Evangelion, Perfect Blue.

Jean Claude Van Damme and Rob Van Dam. Two reasons to not like the name change at all.

Sides, if he continues to refer to himself in the third person whenever he speaks, it'd sound really silly.

"Damn! Damn has forgotten to bring Damn's damned toothbrush. Now Damn must forsake his morning ritual of oral hygiene while Damn is in Malibu crushing Damn's damnably annoying quadruple enemies, the faggoty four! Damnit!"

Thanks everyone! I made a copy of all the suggestions you all gave me. I'm going to my best friends's house this coming Thursday night so I'll show her the list as well. I'm kinda of low on money due to paying lots of bills but there is a used games, videos & dvds store not to far from her house. I'm going to see if we can go there. Maybe I'll get lucky and find something from the list. I know they sell Anime and it's not going to break my bank. :) Chances are I will like it and if not then no biggie maybe my friend or brother will. Not everybody has DSL, swifty. And even then, they don't necesarily have the rest of the recourses to download easily.

I belive that legally, you are allowed to download anything that has not been licenced in the US. Companies are getting pretty good about doing that fast now though. I feel that things should be legal until the entire series has actually been released by that american licence holder, but that's not actually the case.

I'm not sure we're allowed to promote downloading here though. Some of the forum rules, I think. Not sure.

Well.... it depends, I guess. It feels a little like the movie Underworld, only less sucky and has better atmosphere/feel, plus with slightly stronger plot in the later half of the series. Then again, considering that it IS Underworld i'm conparing it to, that's not really saying much. Chances are, if you've watched and liked Hellsing, you'll probably like watching this one. Tho' some other people i know are of the opinion that Robin is to Hellsing what Noir is to Cowboy Bebop. A substandard, lesser grade work.

Just want to ask, how many people here actually um... falls half-asleep while playing console RPGs, but could somehow still go on and navigate the heck out of a dungeon, or defeat a boss etc.?

This had been happening to me pretty damned often lately since Wild Arms 2 back in 2002. Since then, the games I've completed were: Dragon Warrior 7, Arc The Lad 1 and 2, Tales of Destiny (yes, the old PS1 game), FFX, FFX-2, Kingdom Hearts.

Among them, only the likes of Kingdom Hearts and Tales of Destiny won't make me sleep during those random battles and dungeon crawling moments cos' those two are action RPGs. (but those dungeon parts in KH did bore the shit out of me though).

Three nights ago, when I was playing Suikoden 3, and I was fighting against a boss, I had no idea how the hell did I kill it, but when I woke up, the boss was already dead, and I've somehow moved my characters to the dungeon save point. Mwaha.

Yeah, it's cool to complete games while you're half asleep, but you'll miss out the sense of satisfaction of beating a boss.

Yeah, I spent around 20 hours (might be less) for Suikoden 1 in my attempt to find 108 stars (should be my 3rd or 4th try) and then 35 hours for Suikoden 2 (I got all stars in my first try).

For Suikoden 3, I'm around 68 hours, and Geddoe had just lost his true rune. Oh, and I've already found almost all Stars of Destiny (except for those who are about to join me later in the storyline like Sasarai etc). I guess I might take a much shorter time if I didn't become so crazy in levelling up my characters, and getting all the best gears for them (which means constantly trying to raise enough cash).

Besides, the theatre part is awesome.

Legend of Mana, Legend of Legaia both come to mind... and Wild Arms 3 as well.

eswiftfire
05/24/2004 1:05 AM

Yep. I have them all.

I think Legend of Legaia ain't my kind of game. I would've played Legend of Mana, unfortunately, I'm too busy with my PS2 games, and er... I'm sorta afraid of running my PS1 games via PS2, will it damage it or something? (my PS1 is broken)

Wild Arms 3... well, my little sister is playing it.

You see, I have a little policy of not touching the games my li'l sister play, more so when she could complete those games.

That's why I didn't touch Grandia 2 (she finished it without a Walkthrough, playing through it myself will be an insult to my manly intelligence :D), Disgaea (saw the perfect ending last night!) and Wild Arms 3. *sigh*

Silvermagess
05/24/2004 6:11 AM

*rolls eyes* Just because your sister played and beat them...

Hey, for Suikdon 3, who did you choose for the flame champion?

eswiftfire
05/24/2004 8:24 AM

Hugo. He's by far my most kickass character. (Fubar is always with him, and both have the Fury Runes and Killer Runes attached on them, both were around level 60, so the damage they did were pretty insane, 1000 - 2000+ regularly for each of their attacks, and since they are multiple attackers... well, do the maths, haha!!) Chris was too uptight, babelicious she may be, and Geddoe's too cold. Game-wise, Chris is highest in defense, but her attack's pretty low. Geddoe is kickass with his thunder spells, so I'm content with it. Haha.

Besides, Hugo was somewhat similar to the previous heroes (of course, Mcdohl's still the best, even though he's mute :D). Story-wise, Hugo becoming the Flame Champion was the best (there weren't any set up for Geddoe, and Chris is better off with papa's Water Rune).

Heck, it's so satisfying to get major victories in all those battles, crappy the prizes are.

And here's my final team I used to beat the last boss just now.

Hugo
Fubar
Sgt. Joe (my healer)
Emily
Juan = I love these two fighters, cos' they do a lot of hits and massive damages when their swing, continual attack, heavy damage were all maxed up.
Geddoe = for his spells, of course.

But I almost killed my entire party when I stupidly cast Geddoe's spell even when the boss cast reflect on himself. Heck, I was cruising through the fight until his spells got reflected and killed everyone but Fubar and Hugo. But these two guys ended up dishing 2000+ damage on the boss, so I miraculously won a fight that was became harder than it was supposed to be. Bah.

And yeah, I've just finished the game just now. So, it seems that my streak has extended to four months! Yes! With Xenosaga, I can reach five completed RPGs in five months!

I avoid games completed by my sis cos' she'll either 1) spoil it for me 2) I can't resist to watch her play, and thus ended up feeling that I don't have the mood to play through something I've seen someone else play 3) she shows me the ending whenever she's done with the game, and I couldn't resist to watch it...

Airiana
05/24/2004 8:25 AM

Hmm, *shrugs* I know Legend of Legaia got boring after a bit, but the beginning was fun... and no it won't mess it up... you can play PS2 and PS1 games, CDs, and DVDs all on the PS2. :) It won't hurt it--it was made to handle all of them. If you still have any doubts, check that huge manual that came with it, it'll tell ya the same! ;)

*Also rolls her eyes* That is quite childish, I must say Swifty-chan... *chides* Not playing a game simply because your sister has?

When she plays, I usually sit next to her and watch (well, except for those random battle, dungeon crawling parts, of course). After seeing what she went through, I just can't seem to find the motivation to go through all those again, without those surprises at all. Besides, unlike action games or fighting games, you don't really lose THAT much when you were merely watching an RPG and not experiencing it yourself.

Well, after adding Suikoden 3 on my list, my tally for the decade is 28. Meaning I've completed 2.8 RPGs per year. Hah.

Games I didn't get to finish:

Tactics Ogre = Was in that 100 floor dungeon, got bored and demotivated (I reached floor 80+). Didn't touch for a while. When I returned to the game months later, realized that my CD was covered with scratches and stuff. Couldn't continue (Even when I bought myself a copy... I can't find the memory card containing the save data for this... bad luck, man)

Chrono Cross = Despite being a fan of Chrono Trigger, this one just didn't work for me. Dunno why.

Tales of Destiny 2 = The last RPG I played before PS1 broke down. (went to this immediately after ToD1)

Valkerie Profile = Was planning to play that after ToD2.

Saga Frontier = To me, it sucked.

Saga Frontier 2 = I know it's much different from SF1, but I dunno, I ended up getting too involved with Dragon Warrior 7 and the Arc The Lad games to play this one (I can't play more than one RPG at once).

You have to understand, in Malaysia, there is no such thing as an UNCRACKED PS2... (well, actually there ARE a few i guess, but only the really rich and the really stupid bother to buy them). And the CRACKED machines... can get quite temperamental. For instance Swifty's current PS2 is the second PS2 he has ever owned. The first one died the moment he plugged in the power and turned it on. So naturally he does get kinda worried. :D:D:D

UNCRACKED PS2

CRACKED

What do you mean by that?

I've started playing Xenogears right now. But, I really have to finish playing Chrono Trigger.

And I can understand what you mean about watching other people play and having it spoiled. That's why I really try to avoid that trap.

My youngest sister just watches me play though because she

1)doesn't have the patience to complete games

2)never has enough to time to play them.
Hell, the only two games she ever beat were Wild ARMS 1 and Suikoden 2.

My flame Champion was Chris. My final team...I think Hugo, Geddo, Chris, Sasarai...and I think Lucia and Aila.

It's fun building up character's in Suikoden 3, so you have a lot of options either way.

Pirated stuff. Ever wonder how I can get so many games? Each of them cost me 5 bucks only. :D:D:D

Hah, but Hugo's insanely powerful when paired with Fubar. Geddoe is a must with his spells. I didn't use Lucia and Aila cos' they weren't exactly spectacular in offense and defense.

But Juan and Emily... whoa, I just love it when they hit the baddie 7-8 times each, especially when they are so high in critical attacks.

Chris was my most powerful character in chapter 1-2 (cos' I insanely attempted the Chris Lv 99 trick... but gave up at Lv 40). Her defense is very high, but not the insanely high like the likes of Fred, Nicholas or Mua. Hehe. Love those guys.

I added Sgt Joe merely for the sake of having Hugo's original party. (You did try bringing Geddoe and Chris' original party members when they went off to retrieve their runes, right?)

Silvermagess
05/25/2004 6:00 PM

No, I think I brought some of them, but not all. My one sister,(the one who plays games like me, but is a prude,) did it though. But, she unlike me likes to go after every thing and do things the hard way.

I personally cant wait for Suikoden 4 which is susposed to be a prequel to all the other games.

eswiftfire

150 years before the events in Suikoden 1.

I think it's about how the Scarlet Moon Empire was founded or something. Might be wrong.

But Jeane is in it. Ho ho ho. Wonder whose ancestors will be there too. I know there will be a Silverberg, but will there be a McDohl? Hm. Ted will be there too.

For baddies, I'll be surprised if Yuber's not in it.

Coming up on 14 years of P&P (or tabletop) gaming here Kalia. You name it I have played it and probably own it in my collection. Playtested for a few gaming companies also and have been a GM and a player during most of this time.

Played D&D campaigns mostly, a lot of which was the 'lance (even played that unfortunate SAGA system version *shudders*). Also a fan of Earthdawn, Vampire (and Werewolf), Deadlands, Star Wars (both West End's d6 version and the new D20 version) and Legend of the 5 Rings (both versions but prefer the older D10 system). GM'd conventions for Call of Cthulhu and Cyberpunk also.

Not exactly sure of what else you want to know...

Weird list. When I see Cate Blanchett, I think of an evil-looking, scary Galadriel.

=========================

HEPBURN TOPS BEAUTY LIST

Film legend Audrey Hepburn has been named the most naturally beautiful woman of all time by a panel of experts.

The star of Roman Holiday and Breakfast At Tiffany's topped the poll of beauty editors, make-up artists, fashion editors, model agencies and fashion photographers.

They were asked to choose their top 10 beauties from a list of 100.

The women were chosen for their "embodiment of natural beauty, healthy living, beautiful on the inside and out, with great skin and a natural glow to their personality, as well as their complexion".

Ms Hepburn was joined in the top five by current US film star Liv Tyler, Aussie actress Cate Blanchett, Tomb Raider star Angelina Jolie and the fifties icon turned princess Grace Kelly.

In 1953 Hepburn's measurements were released in Celebrity Sleuth magazine and were a tiny 34A-20-34.

Notoriously modest, she once said: "I never thought I'd land in pictures with a face like mine."

More than 76% of the beauty experts who voted in the survey mentioned Hepburn in their top 10.

The top 20:
1. Audrey Hepburn
2. Liv Tyler
3. Cate Blanchett
4. Angelina Jolie
5. Grace Kelly
6. Natalie Imbruglia
7. Juliette Binoche
8. Halle Berry
9. Helena Christensen
10. Elle MacPherson
11. Cameron Diaz
12. Princess Diana
13. Kate Moss
14. Charlize Theron
15. Scarlett Johansson
16. Isabella Rossellini
17. Nigella Lawson
18. Beyonce Knowles
19. Madonna
20. Jamelia

Well, I've done a bit of Melnibonean and Warhammer Fantasy RP, on an irregular basis. (It's hard to find a good RP group in Malaysia, and most of the good sessions take place at near midnight hours, which is just hell...)

Silvermagess

Let's see...I've done some Dragonlance and some regular D&D since I was thirteen. But, within the last six years I haven't gotten the chance. I buy the books still and look them over...but otherwise...nothing.

Glasswalker
06/02/2004 5:52 PM

Okay, well I'm going on 6 years of D&D tabletop. I joined a group that still plays the origanal 1st ed. D&D. About 5 years ago I got into Vampire, but quickly decided it was too morbid for me, then jumped imediatle to Werewolf which I fell in love with. (Go figure...) about 2 years ago I started playing Mage (also in the White Wolf system) and I still play that. About 6 months ago I started playing 3.5 D&D and I haven't looked back since. I'm trying to round up the books now so I can run with my own stuff instead of my buddy's. So currently I'm playing 3.5 and 1st ed. D&D, and also Mage, and Werewolf.

Question. How is it that every time I say I'm GOING to get back on, that I end up abandoning the place again?! WHY?!! WHYY??!!! Sorry...just a simple question. I dropped in and said hello...I missed Swifty's jokes so much that I thought to meself:

"why not drop in and visit? Get into a DAMNED RP FOR ONCE AND STICK TO IT!"

And really, if I could remember the link to the place better, I probably would. Yes, I'm making excuses again. Gosh, I hope I haven't been forgotten. I was really working up on the post count...and then...and..then...it happened. Ever since my mom kicked me off of her compy a year back, it's been "Oh Golly, just forget about your favorite RP and ditch it for crap on avidgamers.com! Go ahead!!"

So, sorry for being so...not around? I'll try. Realy I will. And...I'm turning 18 this year! Hoooray!

Again, I ramble. Is it ALL I'm good at??!! No matter... I'm going to jump into some kind of rpg here today, and stick with it. Hopefully I make a good decision and it isn't a lame one. *sigh* Life sucks sometimes. I guess I'll see you guys later, and in the wise words of Modest Mouse...

Ooooh, today's Donald Duck's 70th Birthday! Ah, ever since I was a kid, he's my fave Disney char. Not goody two shoe Mickey.

Yeah, nobody kicks ass like Donald.

================

Donald Duck Celebrates 70th Birthday
Jun 10, 1:40 PM EST

Donald Duck, the cantankerous yet lovable Disney character, celebrated his 70th birthday by dancing onstage under a shower of confetti as hundreds of fans sang "Happy Birthday to You" at Disneyland Paris.

A parade down the theme park's Main Street marked the occasion Wednesday, with Mickey and Minnie Mouse leading the way. Daisy Duck and friends trailed behind carrying a giant pink cake with 70 candles.

Donald made his acting debut on June 9, 1934, in the cartoon "The Wise Little Hen." Since then, the fussy fowl has appeared in hundreds of films.

For the festivities, Karl Lagerfeld drew a portrait of the birthday duck sporting the fashion designer's signature eyeglasses and cardigan.

T-shirts with the image will be sold as collector's items.

"Oh-la-la, what energy — you're always so young!" yelled the master of ceremonies as the septuagenarian bird waved to the crowd, kissed Daisy and buoyantly danced away.

06/12/2004 3:50 PM

Donald duck always raises a question in my head. Is the Ebeneezer scrooge character the same duck, or just a doppelganger duck?

(In my opinion, Bugs and Daffy are better than all of the main disney characters put together.)

I'd like to join FF3. I just want to be in a small part with Skitz. I had plans when I was really into FF2 to do stuff with Skitz in FF3, but I forgot all about them. So, uh, yeah. Probably just a cameo role or something. Nothin too important, just something that leaves me open to pop in every now and then.

Yeap, I mentioned about a FF3.

Cool beaners! If you don't mind I would like to join in when you do start FF3. :)

Sounds good to me. At least then I could get in from the beginning instead of jumping in at the end. It's really a shame that I couldn't finnish, but all of these time limits and that kind of thing internet-wise are realy starting to get me down. I only have an hour a day and I have to make the most of it. And I've decided to jump back in here.

Hey, maybe I could even get my old thread back and running..or at least try something new. I had a good idea going untill I had to leave. But...I have a question for you all.

How's everybody doing??!! It's like, I haven't heard from you all in...almost what is it now, half a year?? Jeez, sometimes I wonder if I'm just annoying to you all...no matter. It happens. Did that annoying princess person ever make a re-appearance or has she been gone for good? I was kind of bothered by that...alright, gotta stop livin' in the past...future awaits...

I'll go back to writting my fanfictions now...and my book. It's due for an overhaul...all 17 pages of it. ^^

Well.... i'm now in Australia, if anyone cares. Damn, i miss my teh tarik and roti canai and all the other Malaysian food i used to take for granted. All the Malaysian style food here is terrible. The laksa is bland instead of spicy, the sambal for their nasi lemak is like some sort of reddish jellied pudding, and their satay tastes exactly like shish-kebabs with peanut sauce. Sigh...

On the other hand, Uni over here is really nice, and on holidays i practically have the whole Mac lab available to myself to dload anime related stuff with, which means 54 G4s are switched on practically all night long getting MP3s, trailers, wallpapers, manga, mini-games, etc. :D:D:D

And my biggest stumbling block to adjusting to my new environment would be... the cold weather. Its winter over here now, and its bloody chilly.

Oh, and i have some more anime to add to my watched list too. Last Exile, Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien, Scrapped Princess, Getbackers, and Haibane Renmei. Plus the I's OVA, which was absolutely craptacular... :D

Announcement

Yeah, I know we have a board for this kind of stuff, but I don't read it, and I imagine that most of the people I care about don't either.

I haven't been around much lately because of computer issues and final exams. But I've been trying to follow FF2, even if I haven't been doing a very good job. Battle Dawn seems to have died, so I'm not so worried about that.

However, it's looking like I'm going to be gone for real sometime in the near future. I graduate from high school in less than a week. A week after that, I'm leaving for Germany for almost the whole summer, where I don't anticipate having computer access. My grandparents' don't even have their own phone there, after all. In late August I'll be starting college, which will be... different.

I'd like to keep on coming here, but I can't feel certain that I will. I've already had trouble with making time, and keeping up with the epic that is the Future Fellowship. I've really enjoyed the time I've spent here, and I consider several of you to be real friends, even if my activity here has seriously diminished over the past year. I guess I'm not expressing this very eloquently, but I guess I didn't realize how much this place meant to me until I contemplated leaving for good.

Anyway, I'll certainly be gone for the summer. Come September, I'll have to see how things play out. I don't read fantasy novels very often anymore, and I haven't read Dragonlance in ages. That's made me feel a little distant from what goes on here.

If I do go for good, I'll try and drop by once in awhile to say hi. And if not... then I'll be back in mid-August, probably. And that'll mean missing the beginning of FF3 anyway, so there's that to consider... (I don't know how much else I'm interested in being a part of).

Swifty, we'll have to work out something for Avalyn and Danae. Send me an email or something... you're welcome to take over the Danae/Alhana/Chemosh bit. I'd rather leave Avalyn lost for the moment, so that she can always resurface with some explanation of what she's been up to as an entrance to FF3 (if I return). And if not... she'd be just another MIA from the battle in Palanthas.

Aww... I hate to see you go, Kit, but if you have to we understand. Just know that you can poke back in at any time and most of us'll still be here! Please do try to drop by Swifty's thread here if nothing else. Hope you have a great summer and that you do well in college in the fall!

06/20/2004 11:05 PM

Yeah... last time I read a DL novel.... Wow... probably two and a half years ago, now that I think about it >_< Still read plenty of fantasy, though. *Shrugs* Just haven't gotten any new books from DL that I found interesting... seems it's that way with a lot of people here. Still love the setting, but not finding the new stuff all that... great, ya know?

eswiftfire
06/21/2004 3:02 AM

- Bah. The new stuff sucked. And the settings? The only reason why I picked it over some other fantasy settings is because I know it more. Grrr...

- Last DL book I read was Dragons of Vanished Moon.

- Current book I'm reading: A Scientific Romance by Ronald Wright (Time-traveling book)

- Anyway, I've emailed Kit, wonder whether she's gonna reply, or maybe she's already gone off. Damn.

- Two more days before my exams will be over.

- In one of my attempts to import a very bad fanfic into my site, I came up with an idea which is to make it a story within a story.

- Oh, and check out this great article (3 parts) here (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5251416/site/newsweek/) if you're looking forward to Spider-man 2 like me!!!!

I think I'll just wait untill ff3 if it comes out. It'll be easier for me to start from the beginning that to jump in at the end if you see what I mean. That way I don't have to be confuzzled all the time...which I am. Yes! I've completed Xenosaga last night!

Heck, it was so insanely easy. *sigh* Another final battle that lasted for only two rounds. (If your Shion has Erde Kaiser, which can do 9999 damage once every battle, and a Jr. with Bravesoul, Doublebuster = God, last one was Momo, as my support character, use her cos' she's fast)

I'm DEFINITELY looking forward to Xenosaga 2, hell, downloaded the trailer and it looked freaking awesome.

Oh, and this extended my run to 5 RPGs completed in 5 Months, one RPG in each consecutive month, by far my greatest streak of all time! Totally unexpected, actually. Cos' I was trying to slow things down with Xenosaga, expect myself to finish it on July or something. :D

2004 RPGs I've completed:
FFX (78 hours)
FFX-2 (60 hours)
Kingdom Hearts (40 hours)
Suikoden 3 (75 hours)
Xenosaga (47 hours)

"Okay, I have to explain why Fruits Basket is on my "sucks but I read it" list. It all goes back to my friend Brian Mao's theory of Fruits Basket. In his view, it's like Dragon Ball Z, but with angst instead of superpowered martial arts. See, in his view, Tooru is like Goku. She has her own angst, and vanquishes it, in the process becoming the pinnacle of anti-angst power. She meets a few people who have their angst, and vanquishes their angst as well. They join her fight against angst as each season, a newer and stronger angst comes to destroy them.

In this light, Fruits Basket isn't very interesting after a while, since I realized that... it's actually following that formula. That, and I have no interest in the last three bastions of angst--Rin, Akito, and that chicken dude."

I saw Spider-man 2. It was ok, but honestly I dont see why everyone thinks it's such a godly movie. While I dont share PoD's feelings for Dr.Oct, I do think the arms were really cool. (Someone please explain to me why robotic arms controlled by the brain need AI?) Some of the things that should have happened didnt which was kind of a let down. I dont what to say what exactly, to avoid spoilers, but those who have seen the movie should know what I mean. The action scenes were good, and i liked soem fo the Auntie May parts. All in all I would give it a 7. I guess after the excellence of all three LOTRs, I can enjoy ok movies ne more... :(

Just saw Spidey 2. Just as good as I thought. They went deeper into the characters than they did before. It also added some really inspired changes into Doc Ock. The wife was a nice touch, for one. The arms had AI because if they had stuck with the Ock from the comics it would be too similar to Norman Osbourne. This time the villian was more human.
