Dear friend!
I hope you have been doing well since last time our roads crossed a couple of years ago. I feel it's time to reunite the companions one more time and I suggest to meet in Caergoth at the inn of the stone gargoyle, where we have met so many times before, on the first day of Autumn Dark.

I also hope that you still love adventures, because I would like you and the others to join me on a quest. I will tell you the details when we meet. And even if you decide not to come along, we'll have a chance to spend some time together and remember the good old days.

I'll see you soon
Love
Cherizal

OOC: I originally posted this quest in a thread called "The tavern had just reopened" in the DL forums. Noone had an idea about an adventure, so I came up with this one. The thread is quite dead now as the other players don't post very often. I like my idea though, so I thought I'd try to post it here and see if it works.

The time setting is after the war of the Lance and before the war of Chaos (after Renegade and before Thicker than blood). I need 4-5 characters (mortals, not too weird, not too powerful) that could be friends with Cherizal (please, take this into consideation, I don't think she would get along with lawful good characters).

Cherizal approached the Inn of the Stone Gargoyle with a tensed smile on her lips. She was lookig forward to seeing her friends again, but she was also a little afraid that they wouldn't show up or that they wouldn't accept to follow her on her quest.

When she entered the inn, most of the guests turned to look at her. She was used to attract attention because of her elven features, silver hair and red robes, but it still annoyed her.

Not letting her feelings show on her pale face, she looked around to check if any of her companions had arrived. She didn't see any of them, so she went to the counter and paid for six rooms, some food and a glass of wine, then she found a quiet table and sat down.

She opened her spellbook and started studying hoping that her friends would not let her wait too long. She couldn't concentrate on the spells though, her thoughts kept going back to the quest and sighing resigned she closed the book.

She ate some bread and cheese that the barmaid had brought her and took a sip of her wine, then the door opened and Cherizal smiled seeing who had just arrived.

Welcome, Farva. I have just one small prayer, please capitalize and write "for" not 4 and so on. It makes it easier to read and understand (especially for people like me that are not from an english-speaking country).

P.S: PoD, there's something wrong with your signature ;) I guess you are supposed to have a picture there, but we can't see it. Maybe you are linking to a file on your harddisk instead of a file on the net.

Oh, and since she's waiting for her friends, I'll assume Cherizal and Eden already know each other.))

Eden, in his strange elven ranger guise, stared about the room until his eyes rested on a certain elven wizardess with long silver hair. Smiling, he made his way through the crowd and fell onto a chair next to the red-robe.

"It's been awhile, Cherizal. How does your Conclave fare these days? Not that I really care, of course."

He yawned and stretched.
"So, miss red robe, pray tell me why you asked for me here at this time of year. You know, Solace's Inn of Last Home'll be having that bard's competition soon. I want to be around for it..."

Staring at the crumbs on the plate before her, he said,
"You know, you really should treat yourself once in awhile."

Sighing, he reached into a sack he wore at his side and took out a bottle of Qualinesti wine.

"I know it's not exactly to your flavor, but Silvanesti wine is so hard to come by these days... Even though I heard that elf Porthios is trying to destroy that nightmare..."

He shuddered.

"I've seen it, and I'd almost rather walk Shoikan Grove." he looked sidelong at her as he poured her a glass. "Almost."

"Anyways, enough about me. What is it you wanted?"

((OOC2: Here's the rundown on Eden.
Magic: Irda Innate magic
Gender: Male
Occupation: Wherever the gods of good need him
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Past: A favorite of Mishkal and Paladine, even amongst Irda. However, as to maintain balance in the race, the ogre blood could not be entirely destroyed. So whenever Eden is filled with too much of the emotions that would normally turn him ogre for life, he is turned into an ogre for a few days, during which he is bereft of his magic.))"Draco dormiens nunquam tittilandus"-"Never tickle a sleeping dragon"

Cherizal smirked at the disguised Irda.
"Nice to see you too, Eden. The Conclave is faring well, I guess."

"Almost."

Cherizal smiled at Eden's remark, but the smile didn't reach her blue eyes.
"Thanks..." she said taking a sip of the delicate wine. "Yes, Porthio is helping... I wanted to help to, but they didn't even let me cross the border"

She bowed her head and bit her lip feeling a sting of pain in her heart. She had been cast out of Silvanesti more than twenty years before, but the wound had not healed yet. Cherizal still mourned for her loss and she found it very hard not to be able to use her skills to heal her homeland.

"Anyways, enough about me. What is it you wanted?"

Cherizal pushed her sad thoughts away and looked at her impatient friend.
"I will tell you very soon, Eden. But I don't want to repeat the tale hundred times, so I'd rather wait until the others come. I hope they will be here soon. Why don't you just relax for ten minutes? Have some food... Enjoy my company!! You don't see me that often, you shouldn't waste the precious time you can spend with me" she shook her head and chuckled.

((OOC: Rp styles have changed since I was gone...Normally we wouldn't use the quotes...oh well. Cut this outdated RPer some slack.
Eden: Looks: In elven guise: Long, black hair that's tipped with white at the end. He ties it back. His normal clothing in this guise is one of an elven arcane archer (a few leather straps for armor but don't impair meanuverability). His Irda form...Well, he's an Irda. 'nuff said.))

Eden sighed and nodded.
"Fine, fine. I offer my apologies. I'm just a little jumpy these days... Doing the dirty work of gods with full understanding that you're doing it willingly is no mean feat. Supposedly they have no jobs for me right now, but I don't believe it. Why would I be here?"

Eden stopped and wondered why he WAS there and shrugged. Let the gods have their way with him if they needed.

"That, and my kinsmen on...the Isle...have been silent as of late. I think I might need to visit my homeland, if just for a few days, to see what's been happening... I think this adventure of yours might delay it a bit... But, I'm here, and I suppose I might as well see it through. E'li knows what kind of things are lurking in another one of your adventures..."

He sighed and took a sip of the wine. Hearing the doors of the inn open and the barkeep roaring a welcome, he glanced up to see who it was, keeping the hood on his midnight blue cloak shadowing his face. The Queen had her agents in the world, too, and many of them did not look kindly upon him."Draco dormiens nunquam tittilandus"-"Never tickle a sleeping dragon"

OOC: my character is an old one so, don't be to hard me if hes kind of out of date...

Name: Farva
Race: human
Class: Enlightened Barbarian Mystic (basicaly im a barbarian semi-powerful mage whos main specialty is metomorphic magic)
Age: 25
Alignment: neutral (very close to becoming a black robe)
Past: cast out out of the Que-Shu tribe 8 years ago he was welcomed back again after his mother died and his mysterious background was unraveled.

BIC: Farva walked over to the apparent elves sitting at the table, as he sat down he took long look at the woman and a single tear droped from his right eye. than he quickly turned away and grunted "who's this i dont recognize him?"

After closer inspection Farva exclaimed "Eden is that you? I hardly recognized you in that elf disguise!

"anyways why are here? I came as soon as I could but I must say I don't like being pulled out of my studies that abruptly!"

Farva pulled off the black traveling cloak and hat, revealing his red robes and the bastard sword and dagger at his waist, "Well, do you like my new editions, convinced the concave last year."

OOC2: I hope you don't mind the weapons I just feel naked without them sorry.

"I'm pleased you could come, Farva and I'm sorry I pulled you out of your studies. I hope I can make it up to you. As I told Eden, I will tell you everything as soon as the others get here. Have a little patience."

She raised a brow seeing his weapons, then shook her head.
"You know what I think about mages and weapons. I would never use one myself, but then it's your choice and if you have the permission of the conclave, then I guess I can give you my blessing"

Cherizal smiled and raised her glass.
"Well, cheers, my friends. It's nice to be with you again. While we wait, why don't you guys tell me what you have been doing the last few years? Any interesting adventure?"

"Well my mother was murdered and my chief unraveled the death of my father at last, 1 month before I was born my father dissapeared on a hunt. My mother went to stay with my uncle, until she married her next husband, my father's killer. When I was older he convinced the chief to cast me out for a crime I did not commit. My younger half-brother witnessed him kill my mother, his fraud was uncovered and I was asked back to my village but now that I have established a life outside our tribe I cannot go back. OOC: HOpe u don't mind me joining. Here's my char.
Name: Mer
Race: human
Hair: chestnut brown
Skin color: pale white
Height: 5’5”
Age: 24
Eyes: deep emerald set
Occupation: village guard
Description: Curly hair shorn to the neck. A loose torso garment worn over a sidesplitted skirt and knee high leather boots.
Her weapons, a long ornate sword strapped around the waist. Below her, concealed in her boot, is a small dagger.
Can be listless at times, but if aroused to foot, she can be a very strong asset to the group.
History: Parents killed in a village raid by dark knights. Survived by herself since the age of 7. No known living kin. Former job was a thief and a head mercenary.

IC: Mer yawn, the sun glinting on her brown mane only to disappear as she made her way into the inn.
She strode quietly across the room, without taking her eyes off from the huddled group. From her standpoint, she saw a male elf and a man, and across from them was a discernable figure, Cherizal, the main elf herself.

Mer had received the notice from a messenger just before she went to bed last night, and truth be told, she had considered on not coming, partially because she would have the trouble of getting out of bed so early in the morning, and more because she knew a meeting with Cherizal entails adventure in which she had no desire to partake. She was perfectly comfortable with where she was now in life to embark in another one of Cherizal’s crazy quest which had almost cost her her life several years ago.

She had a good paying job as a city guard, not to mention the near future promotion as captain of the 45th squad as a result of her display of valor in capturing two of the most wanted men in the city.
But alas, a new day arrived and curiosity took a hold of her, prompting her out of bed to which she found herself now facing her old friends, yet again. Not that she wasn’t happy to see them, of course. She just hoped that this trip was well worth it.

As she stepped closer, she recognized the faces of Eden and Farva! Eden had not aged since the last time she saw him, and Farva, well, Farva had certainly grown far! He was no longer the tall lanky barbarian she knew, as he obviously had quite impressively developed some muscles attributing to his lean figure. There was an aniticipation to hear what they’ve all been up to.

When her friends noticed her arrival, she smiled at the surprised looks on their face. She would certainly enjoy this meeting, even if she had no plans of going on the quest. She plopped lazily down on the seat beside Cherizal and the others.
“Alright, I’m here.” She raised an eyebrow at cherizal, “Two more, eh, cherizal?"

Talk is based on the assumption that you can get somewhere if you keep putting one word after another.

OOC: Some background info on my character before I post:

Name- Kale Winterseed (Male)
Race/Occupation- Kagonesti Wild Elf, Nature Magic
Alignment/Deity- Chaotic Good, Chislev
Background- Kale is a young Kagonesti elf, of almost 100 years, with shoulder-length hair thats white as winter snow, and softest brown eyes. He is a naturalist and a born hunter, highly skilled with the bow, which he carries on his back.
Lived his early life in the forest and has an innate nature magic. He wears the minimal amount of clothing, those being the colour of the forest browns and greens. Carries a quarterstaff made from the core of a strong oak, and this he brings with him everywhere, sometimes used to channel magic. Tattoo of an oak leaf on his cheek.

IC: Kale stood in front of the Inn and looked up at the familiar sign of the Stone Gargoyle. He smiled.
All the old memories of his companions and their adventures together sprung from a well that had long remained unused.

It was quite a shock when he received the letter in his forest glade quite far from the closest civilisation, and knew immediately it was his old friend Cherizal. Cheri he called her for short, because she knew he couldn't properly pronounce the syllables of her name.

Kale was a fine example of a Kagonesti male, with a lean but muscular body and tanned skin, and of course the elegantly pointed ears of the elves.
He wore only buckskin breeches and soft leather moccassins, choosing to go bare-chested even in the civilized city of Caergoth. His bow and a small quiver of arrows were strung to his back, while at his waist he wore a small pouch that contained all his worldly possesions.

Of course, he carried his quarterstaff that doubled as a walking stick and channeler of magic, that granted by his beloved goddess, Chislev Wilder. Her amulet he wore around his neck, made of simple wood and stone, hanging from a hemp cord.

This he grasped in his hand, and he was comforted by the presence of the goddess, and his longing for the forest was subdued, even in the presence of the stone buildings and sparse greenery that was the fortress town of Caergoth.

Standing at the doorstep, he finally entered and immediately spotted his friends. "Oh, what a joy it is to see you all again!" he says as he walks over to greet them.
"So long has it been since we last saw each other." He smiled broadly, and looked around at them each in turn, studying the changes in their appearances. To Cherizal he said "So what is this quest you spoke of in your letter?"

They all knew he was a sometimes brash and spontaneous individual, but that's what they loved about him. He seemed almost giddy at being able to participate in another quest after being so long in the forest, in commune with his goddess.

He seemed to have grown up quite a bit since they last saw him, no more an eager child, but still showing some of the same traits.
He smiled at Farva, Eden and Mer and asked them what they had been up to since they last parted ways. He sat down at the table, and laid his staff by his side, awaiting their responses.

OCC: …Okay things are really busy at work at the moment so I’ll have to be a piker and post my original meeting from the DL.Com forum, modified to fit, sorry Cheri…

IC: …As the small group sat, their greetings still young, a man walked with confident steps down the polished stairs from the darkened shadows of the upstairs quarters. He ran a weathered hand through his longish auburn fringe and scanned the room, quickly finding the table holding his old companions. Albion let a good-natured smile cross his face and leaned his back against the bar. He drapped his elbows over the bars edge, content to watch his companions and let old memories wash over him. With a nod to the bartender, he ordered a round for the drinks and trickled a handful of steel across the bar to keep them coming. With a sigh, the man weaved through the tables and came to stand before the trio.

“You lot could wake the dead!” he said with a laugh that came easy as he eyed his old companions.

“I could hear you from upstairs” he said as he clasped a hand to the shoulder of the Kale before leaning across the table to grasp hands with each of the others in turn. “It is good to see you” he added softly, looking into the blue almonds shaped eyes of Cherizal. His expression begged to ask questions, but a genuine look of concern touched the man’s hazel eyes.

Albion walked around the table to an empty seat, and dragged the chair clear, reversing it so he could sit astride. It was an old habit, picked up during the war when a Nordmaaran officer had surprised him and stuck a dagger in his abdomen. He had reasoned that the back of the chair gave him a little more protection, a precious moment or two to draw his now non-existent sword. If it weren’t for his companions Albion would never had gotten out of that tavern. So many memories, he thought. It seems like a lifetime ago…

OOC: to lazy to think of anew char, usin' Raq! All who don't know her can look her up in Renegade. ^^

BIC~
Hastily looking through her pouches, Raq growled as she realized that she had not a single magic-detecting item. Namely, the human was pissed. Pulling daggers out of her other pouches, she glared at them and wished for them to tell her what they did. But, of course, they did not.

SO she stuffed all of them minus Cryptik (OOC: Cheri, that's the cold-enchanted she's using in Renegade) back into her pouches and stuffed her special cold weapon into her boot. She jumped back out of the room and down the stairs, looking at all the unuseable scrolls she could sell. WHich then reminded her of her jingling money pouch, and then her stomach growled.

She looked throwl the scrollcase while walkign through teh bar and ran into a wall of red.

"Oh! Red robe! Sorry bout that!" She beamed at the back of th ehead of teh magi as her fingers subconsciously dug through the money pouch of the said mage. As she did, she looked back up at the mage. A magess, no doubt.

With piqued interest she turned to see the red robe's face. Elven. SHe knew that face.

Farva almost considered leaving then and there to go to Solace to his Girlfriend, but he thought better and decided to stay, "Mariklan can wait I guess."

Getting up he walked up the bar and ordered a bottle of their strongest dwarf spirits, he walked back to the table and sat down. "If I have to wait I won't have wine, not nearly strong enough. Who wants a glass? Eh?"

OOC: First of all, I just wanted say thank you all for joining my new thread. It's nice to see so many good writers here :)
Arandur, don't worry. It's ok. I'm copying and pasting a few things too. Just don't work too hard and remember to eat ;)

PoD, I assume it is a coincidence that Raq is at the inn, as the companions are supposed to know each other from a time before Renegade.

BIC: Cherizal greeted Kale, Mer and Albion warmly. She was so happy to see them. She had so many questions to all of them and wanted to know what had happened in their life in the last few years. But she knew that they would have time for that on the road, if they decided to join her on her quest.

She was standing regarding them all when her money pouch got warm. She had cast a spell on it to keep kender away from it. She turned and her eyes widened in surprise.

"Raq! What are you doing here! It's nice to see you. Come and sit with me and my friends. And who knows maybe we will go adventuring together again"

Cherizal introduced Raq to the others, then looked at the bottle of dwarf spirits that Farva had bought and grinned.
"Are you planning on getting drunk, Farva? Well, why not? We have to celebrate our reunion. But I think I should tell you why I asked you to come here while our brains still work!"

She smiled, then her expression went serious.
"A few weeks ago I was in the Tower of Wayreth because I wanted to study some of the books in their library and I overheard a conversation between Dalamar and Justarius. Actually I am not sure if I overheard it or if they wanted me to hear it. But in any case Dalamar was very upset.

Something or someone had been in the tower in Palanthas while Dalamar was away. Two of Raistlin Majere's spellbooks and two very powerful artefacts have been stolen. He didn't know how it happened. He was completely sure it was not any of the mages living in the tower. He had questioned them and he knows how to make people tell the truth.

And if it was not them, then it must be someone very powerful. You know, it's not so easy to access the tower, and it's impossible to do it without being noticed... There are lots of warding spells and all the guardians... Anyway Dalamar fears these things have fallen in the wrong hands and they must be retrieved and returned to the tower. He said that if it was a mage who managed to do this, he would choose this person as his assistant."

She fell silent, then she added blushing slightly.
"I would really love to be his assistant. I feel like I haven't worked hard enough with my magic lately. I need some new input and I know he can give me that, he's one of the best and I'd give anything to have him teaching me. I want to be a powerful mage too."

She shot her friends a questioning look and waited anxiously for their response.

Eden, his face still shadowed by his cloak, greeted each of his old companions with general ease but did not mention what he had been doing since he had last seen them. If they needed to know, the gods would let them find out, but if they didn't, the gods would keep the information from them.

His face, even shadowed by the cloak, darkened at the sound of someone stealing into the Tower in Palanthas.

"You can't get in there without permission of one of the gods," he pointed out. "Especially so if it wasn't Nuitari. The Dark Moon doesn't take kindly upon those gods that try to exert their control over his domain."

Sipping his wine thoughtfully, seemed lost in thought for few seconds but then shook his head and said,
"I have no problem with getting these artifacts back. I have no feelings of want of them, of course, but it's merely the fact that someone should actually take them that worries me. If one of the gods plan to make war from inside the pantheon, that is also my concern..."

Under his cloak, the tattoo he wore on his right shoulder gleamed briefly, as if acknowledging him. An intertwining of Paladine and Mishkal's symbols warmed his skin for a split second and he nodded. So it was his next mission.

Sighing and emptying the last of the wine, he said,
"But why, Cherizal, did you choose Dalamar? I'm sure that Justarius is free, now that Jenna has taken her Test...And it is Justarius, not Dalamar, who now resides as Head of the Conclave, though Dalamar is sure to be successor."

"Of course," he added, looking sidelong at her, "the fact that Raistlin was his Shalafi must be tempting, even though your robes, however red, would have to be much, much darker to read upon those forbidden texts...""Draco dormiens nunquam tittilandus"-"Never tickle a sleeping dragon"

"Heya people, maybe we can Cherizal, that would be fun," She agreed, slipping two steel that the magess hadn't been using.

She looked at Eden for a second and considered his words, "He's right, ya know. If ywa wanna be Dalamar's apprentice then ya' gotta be a Black robe, and ya' aint. And those black robes can be funny sometimes, I dun like i'd like ya' as one." She winked, using CHerizal's steel to get herself an ale.

The slight smug smile twitched gently as he surveyed the group casually so as not to bring attention. His glass of spiced wine, held delicately between long and slender fingers was hardly touched, save for the odd periodic sip that aided in suggesting he had something better to do, rather than simple eavesdrop. The thin and pale face was to be best described as.... refined, almost feminine in fact. The acute nose was sharp, but not overtly pointed, and the high cheek bones were emphasized by the pair of deep forest green eyes, that slanted ever soo slightly at the end, giving rise to the suspicion of an elven heritage diluted in there somewhere, surrounded by well kept and unbound raven black hair..... hair the same colour as the robes the mage was wearing, with a rather arrogant pride.

Despite the robes being impecible, the mage wiped at unseen crumbs, almost absentmindly. Ryn then turned his face to that of the oddly assorted group, staring at them openly with little to no expression on his face......

The sight of his old friends returning was heart warming. So long they had been apart, yet they immediately went back into old habits. He greeted them all, and clasped hands briefly with Albion.
He listened to Cherizal explain about the reason for the unexpected quest, and his mind wandered when she began talking about matters of High Sorcery.

Admittedly, it bored him to hear about the robes and their squabbling over paltry magic items and power, but he listened politely and nodded when appropriate. What he was really in for was the adventure, and he knew that was soon to come. "Of course, I always love to help, so you can count me in on this." He winked at Cherizal.

Glancing around the room, he saw the unemotional and unabashed stare of the mage in black. More than a little uncomfortable, he decided he should probably let the rest of his companions know.
"Err, guys, I think we might have a little company..." he says, as his voice trails off, and points over to where the black mage was sitting.

Mer leaned back on the chair and listened to the group’s exclamation and ideas about the quest. As always, Cherizal had once again called them forward to a journey centered on her own ego. To be the most powerful mage’s assistant. How quaint, she thought cynically. Yes, they were friends, but not the best of friends, and after hearing this, it was time to depart and leave before this whole craziness starts to catch up with her.

Mer heard Farva made a comment about a mage behind her and without qualms turn to meet his eyes. He was indeed staring at them in a fashion she disliked. Her composure was suddenly ruffled, and her skin crawled, from that mere blank gaze. Yes, it was indeed time to leave. She can deal with hand to hand combat, she can handle a 300 pound minotaur, but magic? She hated magic. She especially hated mages who practiced dark magic. And she had no wish to encounter anyone of such.

“Alright, I’ve heard enough.” She raised the cup of tea to her lip and took a sip, welcoming the cool liquid that ran down her throat. “Thanks for the tea, this was a really nice brunch, I really did enjoy it, but I’ve got more important things to do. Our path will cross again, I believe.” She winked at the group and turned. With a curt nod directed towards Cherizal she rose from her seat.

Eden made a sudden movement in his seat. The air crackled with the archaic magical energy that poured from the Irda. His elven guise wavered for a split second but was back up in an eyeblink. People around them, feeling the energy, began muttering and moving away. Some put their hands on their swords while others went out of the inn.

Though not actually changing the tone in his voice, the others could hear the venom behind the words.

"I advise against this, my friends," he said softly, the aura around him still up and coming through his dark cloak.

"Never trust a servant of the darkness. I have learned that much in my years, my friends. You who have heard my knowledge before, will you doubt my wisdom now?"

He stood up and faced Ryn.
"You can choose," he said, still softly. "It's either him or me. I advise you choose wisely, as well."

The air stood still as Eden brought his aura down. Or, at least, contained it as one would a dragon before letting it out in a rage of destruction. His eyes, still shadowed by the hood, stared coldly at the newcomer, as if daring him to make an attack."Draco dormiens nunquam tittilandus"-"Never tickle a sleeping dragon"

Eden made no movement, but said,
"I do not fear Dalamar, if that's what you are implying. I have enemies millennia older than him and as powerful as their years are old. I do, however, prefer him to other servants of darkness. The dark elf walks his own path first, his god second. I can trust him more than most."

"Tell him we will bring him these artifacts of Majere he wishes so dearly for, and, if she still persists, a new assistant with plenty of potential in arcane lore."

"However..." he murmured, taking out a small stone and tossing it to Ryn. "If he still wishes in intruding, give him this, so that he may know what he will face." the stone glimmered very faintly with a tiny bit of Irda magic.

He felt a warning prickle at the back of his right shoulder and sat down after one more glare, returning his emotions back stable.

A little bit more and I would have turned into...that thing again. I must control myself!.

Wrapping himself tightly into the cloak, he turned his chair and stared moodily into the fire, which illuminated his strange elven visage."Draco dormiens nunquam tittilandus"-"Never tickle a sleeping dragon"

"But why, Cherizal, did you choose Dalamar? I'm sure that Justarius is free, now that Jenna has taken her Test...And it is Justarius, not Dalamar, who now resides as Head of the Conclave, though Dalamar is sure to be successor."

"Of course," he added, looking sidelong at her, "the fact that Raistlin was his Shalafi must be tempting, even though your robes, however red, would have to be much, much darker to read upon those forbidden texts..."

Cherizal smiled at Eden.
"Justarius has more important things to do than teaching me. And well.. I didn't actually choose Dalamar. I mean he is kind of giving me an opportunity I couldn't look away from... And then he is a dark elf, Eden... I'm sure we will understand each other... I hope at least.

The dark arts are not for me, even if I admit it could be interesting to be able to read Raistlin's books. Just out of curiosity. And Raq, Dalamar takes red robes as apprentices too, so don't worry. I don't wish to change my alignment"

"I do think we should spend the night here, or are we on a time constraint?"

"No, we are not on a time constraint. I have already paid for our rooms. Raq, you can use some of my steel to get one for yourself" she said to the thief with a flicker of amusement in her eyes, then she added. "And before going anywhere, we need to find out where to go..."

She nodded grateful to Kale and Farva when they accepted to join her on the quest. "Thank you, my friends, I knew I could count on you!"
Her eyes darkened when Mer said she would leave. The two of them had always been kind of antagonists inside the group and Mer was actually the only one of the companions she didn't feel completely at ease with. But she had decided to summon her because she knew she could use her skills.

She bit her lip and looked into Mer's eyes trying not to let any emotion show on her face.
"Very well, Mer. I won't try to make you change your mind. Thanks for coming by the way..."

Cherizal's eyes widened hearing Eden's words. She hated to admit that, but she hadn't even noticed the black robe. She had been so focused on her friends and her quest that she had paid very little attention to the other guests of the inn. She cursed under her breath angry with herself for her carelessness.

She shot the mage an appraising look wondering who he was and what he was doing there. Then her attention went back to Eden and his strong reaction to the black robe's question.

He stood up and faced Ryn.
"You can choose," he said, still softly. "It's either him or me. I advise you choose wisely, as well."

"Easy, my friend... You know I would choose you at any time" she said calmly, her eyes still on Ryn. She was loyal to her friend and she didn't want to compete with another mage to get the final reward.

He laughed, eyeing the apparent elf with grim but cold amusement. " I can't say I'm terribly impressed..... ", he looked Cherizal straight in the eye, muttering. " Well I suppose I had best leave. My Lord Dalamar will be most ill pleased to learn of recent events. ", he cast the 'elf' a glance, smiling challengingly.

Cherizal raised a brow, her interest awakened.
"What do you mean with that?"
Then she turned to Eden and looked at him concerned. She squeezed his hand and whispered "It's ok, my friend, don't let him provoke you"

" There was..... something..... the voice...... ", he stopped, shrugging something off. " To be honest I couldn't tell much on the night.... whomever.... or whatever stole the books had cast a spell... a very powerful one as you can imagine. It befuddled those in the tower, caught unprepared, I and the others had no defense against it..... ", such had irriated the black robe, as was very much evident in his tone. " It spoke in a language I couldn't understand, and I don't think it was alone at the time. How it got inside the Tower I'll never know, such just shouldn't have been possible without someone, especially Dalamar, noticing. The only other non magical means would be through the Grove, and you can guess at the outcome of any such attempt... "Apparently there are more important things in life than fashion. Yeah, right.

Cherizal hadn't hoped to get much information from Ryn, so she didn't get disappointed finding out that he didn't know much more than her. But then if he had known more, he would not have been there offering his help.

"What will you obtain if we retrieve those items, Ryn? Will you get any kind of reward?" she asked remembering that he had said that he Dalamar's ex apprentice.

"I would appreciate if you could tell me if the information I have about the stolen items, is correct. One is a teleport sceptre, it's a rare thing made by the Irda centuries ago. The other one is a protection ring that can shield the person who wears it from every kind of magic.

It's made of silver and has three stones, one white, one red and one black. It was created by two renegade mages before the Cataclysm and can only be worn by someone who deals with all three kinds of magic. That means that probably noone on Krynn can use it as mages are not allowed to serve all three gods of magic at the same time.

There were lots of more valuable items in the tower and it's difficult to understand why exactly those two items were needed. The spellbooks are from Raistlin's most powerful days, but I doubt there are mages powerful enough to use them, except Dalamar himself. Is this right? Or were there other things I don't know of?"

Then Cherizal looked to her companions.
"What do you say, guys? Shall we let him come with us? I promise I will keep an eye on him. He's only one, we are six"

Finally, after a few minutes, he said,
"Child of the Irda, what do you want now?"

Eden stared at Astinus' parchment for awhile and said,
"You know what I want. The location of the Scepter and the ring. Those are not things that are to be tampered with."

Astinus, brow furrowed, kept writing for a few minutes. Finally, he said,
"I cannot tell you that. You should know."

Eden slammed his hand on the desk. "Yes, I know. Thing is, Astinus, the gods also sense danger in this. You, avatar of Gilean, should know this already."

Knocks could be heard outside. Louder. Shouting now. People ramming the door.

Astinus stared coldly up at Eden and said,
"The gods guide that group that you have left, Irda. The balance must be maintained. The neutral, the dark, and the light should all have a part in this. You, Eden of Paladine and Mishkal, were one of the defining factors in light. Why did you leave? Because you are intolerant. But you knew this already. Be gone from my studies, Irda."

Eden sighed. He had already known this. But he couldn't help himself. Resigned, he looked at Astinus and said,
"Very well, I will leave. But when I see fit. Allow me to use your library in the meanwhile."

Astinus made an impatient gesture with his hand toward the books and went back to his writing. Eden went over to the books and waved his hand toward the door. A crowd fell through, but when they saw an already angered Astinus, the hurriedly left, shutting the door behind them.

She sighed. Two of the companions had already left. She had had doubts about Mer, but she had really counted on Eden's help.

"He is a renegade, he lives in a cave under the Khalkists, and I think I just figured this out. He and Dalamar are good friends... were good friends. He had a pendant to allow him to pass through the Grove. Perhaps he still has it?

Cherizal listened to Farva frowning.
"I don't know, Farva, it doesn't sound right. It would be too simple if it was this renegade. And Dalamar would have thought of him, if he believed he could be the thief. Remember that there are several people living in the tower and they would have noticed it if someone had entered the tower passing through the grove.

No, we'll have to find our answer somewhere else. During my test I received a kind of wishing box. This box can answer one question, only one. That's why I've never used it. "And I thought he had a girlfriend waiting for him..." she muttered. Then she smiled at the others.

"I don't know what you want to do, but I think we should stay here a little longer and drink some more. We don't see each other every day and it would be a shame to go to bed so early."

She finished her wine and ordered another glass. She needed to relax and shut out all the thoughts about the quest at least for a short while.

IC: …Albion listened to the others around the table, nursing his brandy and connecting the people at the table around him with those he remembered years earlier.

He leaned forward, and rested his arms upon the back of the reversed chair, content to listen to his friends as he slowly drank his brandy. He couldn't help but smile. Time may have passed, but they essentially seemed the same, he guessed it was because each of them had hundreds of years to look forward to, and the short time after the war was little in their over all lifespan. Being human, Albion was already beginning to feel old at his thirty-two summers. As Mer left, he shook his head slowly to himself dismayed that the bonds they had forged had not been stronger.

As Eden also teleported out, Albion began to think to himself that maybe the emotions and bonds he had perceived with these people around him were more in his mind and heart than in reality.

"I am in also" he added hesitantly then looked across the table at Cherizal, "but I've heard Dalamar wears the black robes, are you sure this is what you truly want?" he said, concern in his eyes. "Are you talking to me, Cherizal?" Raq said, looking up, "I'm just listening, you know? Picking up information. It's what good theives do. I"ve beem merely hanging around the place. I realize that it's much easier to take stuff from other theives,s so I've been sticking around them. My daggers are tucked in my boots as well.....they're there, you just can't see them, that's all."

Raq ordered herself another ale and sighed, "I get the feeling that some pretty wierd forces are fiddling with us...."

IC: …Albion’s almost ever present smile faltered for a moment as he thought about the Dark Elf Dalamar and his friend under his tutelage. “If that’s what you truly want Cheri. Just be careful.” He finished meeting her eyes with a solemn glance before shrugging to himself and taking a sip of his brandy.

“As for myself, I took the money I gathered from the war and bought myself a small place not far from Crossing, in Abanasinia. It’s peaceful country really and beautiful too, and I can get most of what I need from the town really. Don’t have the need for a sword anymore,” he said sadly with a glance to his side where he blade used to rest.

“What about yourselves?” he added with eyes brimming with curiosity…

"Is that what you really want with your life, Albion? Living in the countryside? You don't sound especially enthusiastic... And maybe you don't need a sword where you live, but you may need one to defend yourself in the near future.. " Cherizal looked at him with a raised brow. "There's something you don't tell me, isn't there?"

“What about yourselves?” he added with eyes brimming with curiosity…

"I've just saved the world from an evil renegade mage" she answered with a grin on her face "And that's the only interesting thing I've done lately. As for the rest of the time, it went studying and wandering about"

" Lord Dalamar may take on Red Robes, but they must also be deserving of his attention...... ", he shuddered visably beneath his robes. " He has a great many things to teach....", something passed over the dark mages' eyes. " Anyway, as to the artifacts, yes that sounds about right...... and I am inclinged to agree about this renegade. No mage could have cast a spell that powerful within the Tower of Palanthas..... save my Lord Dalamar. No... whomever stole the items was not human, nor elf or dwarf for that matter. ", Ryn took a seat, sighing heavily. " Those books. They must be found. I know you do this for an apprenticeship with Dalamar, Cherizal..... however.... I cannot stress the need to retrieve these books. As you have said, they are from Raistlins more recent years, and hold.... incredible.... power. Dalamar himself has only glanced within the bindings of these books, and barely kept a grip on his sanity.... "

" You see, these books, they are two out of three books not kept within His laboratory.... why, I'm not sure. But seeing as no one can enter the laboratory, their value is worth more than many are letting on. I was one of the Guardians, so to speak. Six mages of the Black Robes set up to make sure that very few knew of their existence..... somehow, someone knew..... giving rise to the suspicion that one of my fellow mages is a traitor, something Dalamar is investigating. ", a ghastly smile broke on his face. "You can imagine his effectiveness.... "

Yawning suddenly. " And I agree to rest... I must study somewhat anyway..... "Apparently there are more important things in life than fashion. Yeah, right.

Albion looked from the black robed figure to Cherizal, there was no smile just a grimace of disdain as he ran a hand through his auburn hair.

“And this is the creature you want to study under? A torturer? A murderer?” he said shaking his head. Perhaps everyone has changed more than I believed in the years after the war, I guess the War changed us all…

Cherizal shrugged.
"I don't care who he is or what he does, Albion. The only thing that matters is that he is powerful and I want him to teach me and share his knowledge with me." she said, then she looked to the rest of the party.

"Well, I guess we should go to bed and get some rest. We'll meet here in the morning so we can plan what to do next. Good night to all of you"

Mer had not return home just yet. THe constant idea of a slight chance that they may need her help filtered her mind. It would lay deeply overher conscience if something horrible did indeed happen to them. They were her friends after all, deserving of her protection, not that she was suggesting that they were unable to fend for themselves. But as fate had had it many times before, one person had did save many lives, however inadvertant or advertant. She paced along in her room in an inn just a hundred meters away from the Inn of the Stone Gargoyle, undecided whether to return back to the companions or not.

IC: …Albion shook his head to himself, already the fellowship of companions had begun the first of its unravellings and there was little the man could do. He would once again wear his blade and help his friend find her path, spilling more blood if need be onto hands already crimson with those slain during the war.

He muttered his goodnight to Kale and clapped a hand to the kagonesti’s shoulder, wishing him pleasant dreams of home and hearth before heading upstairs to his room. Once there, he cast a pained look across to the four foot long bundle which lay wrapped across the nightstand, he could almost hear the blade calling to him to spill more blood…

Eden woke up suddenly, the sunlight lancing in the window full on his face, warming him against the cold sweat on his brow. His cloak was wrapped around him at an odd angle as he sat up in the chair. The tome he was reading was back in its rightful place in the shelf; one of the aesthetics must have come in during the night to pick it up put it back.

The dream had been so real...He thought. Fighting those fiends and outsiders in the Grey...he shivered.

The scratching of a quill shook him out of his reverie. Looking up, he saw Astinus writing as he ever was, now by sunlight as opposed to the candle light he had used during the night.

Standing up, he looked to Astinus a second longer before drawing a sigil into the air. Again, his body changed to smoke as he disappeared. Astinus did not even glance up, though he wrote,
"...The Irda, Eden, left my library."

The blue was in a foul mood. He had not eaten for days, and yet, he felt no need to answer his stomach's constant calls. Angrily, he sat brooding at the mouth of the cavern he had made his home. He would have to eat before going again, he knew, but right now he needed to save the energy and concentration needed to access the gate.

Finally, just as he was going out, he smelled flesh arriving into his lair. He smiled and thought that there would be no need for his going out until he recognized the scent. He dragon's face contorted with anger as he shouted,
"Mortal! Get out of my lair!"

Eden walked in as casually as he pleased. The dragon no longer affected him, at least in terms of dragonfear. The two had travelled far too long together for that. They had depended on each other too long.

"I see, Khellendros, that I caught you right before you were going there again. I won't restrain you, but I needed to talk to you. Actually, I need to ask something of you."

The dragon's lip, if possible, curled into a sneer.
"Why should I give you anything? I owe you no favors."

Eden smiled and said, "I'll give you something back."

The dragon roared with laughter, shaking the cavern walls. Eden stood unmoving.
"What do you have that I could possibly want?"

Eden's smile turned into smirk as he said,
"I'll leave the gate open for you."

The blue started.
"You can't."

"Takhisis gave you the power to travel through it, despite the dangers. I was given the same thing. Don't tell me you don't believe me, after all we've been through on that plane that is not a plane."

Khellendros eyed the disguised Irda more interestedly now.
"What do you want?"

"Information. Allies. And power."

Khellendros smirked. "Are you planning to take over the world, Irda?"

Eden shook his head slightly and said,
"No. I want the means to stop it."

Khellendros looked at the Irda piercingly and said,
"I haven't known you to lie, Irda. I will give you these, but if you don't hold your end of the bargain, I will enjoy slowly ripping your living carcass apart."

Eden nodded and held up his hand. Khellendros took in a deep breath and threw lightning at Irda. Instead of incinerating him, it left a dark blue rune at the back of his hand, which glowed slightly before dimming and disappearing altogether.

Khellendros smirked. "You didn't even have your defenses up. Do you trust me that much, Irda?"

"I trust the fact you know what would happen to you in the Grey if you didn't have a way out."

Khellendros didn't reply for a minute. Finally,
"That will give you the blue dragons. They don't dare go against me, who once fought with the Blue Lady. But why do you now ally yourself to us, the dragons of evil?"

Eden's disguise fell as he walked in full Irda toward the dragon and said,
"I'll have to work with darkness soon anyway, so why not go further? Let's get this over with. I hope your mind is stable right now."

The dragon didn't comment. Slowly, the two began the magics necessary to access the Grey...

I'll move things on to the next morning.

BIC: The sun had already risen when Cherizal waked. She lay under her blanket for a while before opening her eyes and deciding that it was time to get up. They had lots to do and she could not sleep too long, even if she wanted to. She had a light headache because of the drinking of the night before, but it could have been worse. It used to be worse in the old days. Maybe they were getting older and wiser? She had her doubts.

She prepared her pack and went downstairs. The common room was very quiet, a barmaid was wiping the tables with a cloth, but there were no customers around. Her friends hadn't got up yet, or maybe they had already gone out to get what they needed before leaving.

She ordered some strong tea and after drinking the first cup she started feeling a little better. She took a small wooden box from her pack and placed it on the table. She touched it softly feeling the tingle of its magic.

Her hands were shaking slightly and her face was flushed in excitement. She was tempted to ask her question without waiting for her friends, but she controlled her urge. She looked impatiently to the stairs hoping they would show up soon.

“My horse threw a shoe and I needed to see the farrier about a new one. Beautiful morning, by the way.” He said as he smiled good-naturedly at his friend Cherizal, his smile faltered a little as he looked to the black robe but his stride towards the table never faltered. As he arrived he drew out a chair, reversed it and took a seat resting his arms on the head of the chair.

“I took the liberty of checking with the gate guard. Neither has seen either Eden nor Mer, so they may be still within the city” he said as he shrugged, “ but with Eden, you never know.” He said with a broad smile.

The former swordsman felt uncomfortable in his old armour, though it fit as well as when he had last donned it almost three years before. Was it always this heavy?

His hazel eyes looked to the box and his brow raised slightly in question as he leaned forward to inspect it more closely, his eyes darting sideways to watch the dark robed mage before looking up to Cherizal.

“Okay, I’ll take the bait, what’s with the box?” he asked smiling…

"You're perfectly right and he doesn't even need to walk, so it's kind of difficult to keep track of him"

“Okay, I’ll take the bait, what’s with the box?” he asked smiling…

"It's a magical box and it will answer the first question I ask and I intend to ask where the stolen items are kept. When we know, we can leave. I've been carrying it with me for over twenty years and I think this is the right time to use it. I will wait until Kale, Raq and Farva join us, then I will proceed. But if your heart’s set on it then I will help no matter what my feelings are on the matter. Its your choice.” He said and gave her a sad smile.

He looked to Ryn, regarding the black robe for a moment, as he leaned on the back of the chair with his arms and picked at the food the barmaid had brought. “And Ryn, did Dalamar send you expressly here or is it just a bizarre coincidence that you are at the same inn at exactly the same moment that my friend here decides to try to find Dalamar’s lost artifacts.” He asked, his hazel eyes intent on the man’s answer…

“Of course it matters who sent you.” He said matter-of-factly. “I have traveled with these people before, I know them and trust them. You I know nothing about. All I have to go on is this…rather thin explanation or no explanation at all. I know of the theft because I overheard a conversation. So if Dalamar sent you, it's because he let me hear that on purpose and he's planning something"

She shrugged, then looked to the rest of the companions.
"Maybe we should get started, I want to leave as soon as possible."

She concentrated on the box before her and caressed it gently, then she spoke a few words in the language of magic and waited. For a long moment nothing happened, Cherizal was afraid she had pronounced the words in the wrong way, but then the box opened slowly. All they could see was a red vibrant light with sparkles of silver. It was like the box was gone and only this light was left. The light was so strong that it hurt the eyes.

"Talk, child... You are granted one question. Weigh your words, because I will only answer one question, not matter what it is." the voice, coming from the red light, but also from every corner of the room, was deep, soft and kind, but at the same time steelhard.
Cherizal stared into the light feeling reverence and a little fear. She hesitated, but only for a second, then she clenched her hands into fists and took a deep breath.

"A few weeks ago two of Raistlin Majere's spellbooks, a teleport sceptre and a magical ring were stolen from the tower of high sorcery in Palanthas. Where can we find these items?" she asked trying to speak as clearly as possible, then she bit her lip nervously.

The red light seemed to move, change shape and colour for a while, then it returned to its previous shape, even if it looked darker.
"The items you are talking about are kept safe in the lost city of Shalandar, child. I wish you good luck, because you will need it"
Then the light was gone and there was no trace left of the box.

Cherizal had gone pale.
"The lost city of Shalandar? That can't be possible..." she muttered to herself running her fingers through her silver hair. Then she turned to her friends.

"Do you know about this legendary city? It disappeared 200 years before the Cataclysm. Just like that.. One day it was there and the following day it was gone, nothing was left! The legend says that the city is to be found north of Silvanesti and east of Blöde in a place where different energies converge. It's a very powerful place, but... There's absolutely nothing there. I've heard some people rambling about a portal but I don't know any trustworthy person that actually have seen or found it."

She dived into a map case and pulled out many pieces of parchment. Taking out about six of them, she stuffed the rest in back into her bag.

"The problem is that the land changed after the Cataclysm, so we can't be sure we'll find the city in the place shown by the map. IC: ...Albion listened to Cherizal ask the box its question with a mixed look of concern and wonder in his eyes. With the disappearance of the glowing light, he took a deep breath, suddenly realizing he had been holding it while Cherizal asked her question, and ran a hand through his hair nervously. 'I wish you good luck, because you wil need it'. the words had made his heart miss a beat, and now that he had time to replay the foreboding words, a feeling of uneasiness began to grow in the back of his mind.

"I only hope that the boxes answer wasn't too literal," he said, glancing to Cherizal "the items are safe in this lost city now, but did that mean they will be there tomorrow or in a week?" he asked, figuring that Cherizal would understand the intricacies of the arcane far better than he ever would.

He listened intently to the comments of the lost city of Shalandar, never before having heard the name, but intrigued nonetheless. He knew History was also not his strong point, but knew a little about the Cataclysm from when he was younger. He thought over the location in his mind. North of SIlvanesti and East of Blode. He looked up suddenly, with widened eyes.

"North of Silvanesti and east of Blode? Have far east I wonder? If this city was around before the Cataclysm, I hope that it wasn't anywhere within ten leagues of Istar or it would be at the bottom of the Blood Sea now, amongst the Maelstrom." he exclaimed with worry. "I just hope it's on dry land where the legends say it stood, though that would put it close to Neraka, either way that's harsh country. It's probably the best place to start searching I guess."

With that Albion stood to stretch and looked to the others, more than aware of the heaviness of his armour, but filled with a sense of freedom, of companionship even though it was shadowed by the box's grim words. I wish you good luck, because you will need it...

BIC: Cherizal pondered on Albion's words.
"You see, Albion, the box couldn't see the future. It told us the truth about where the items are at the moment. And yes, they could be moved now or tomorrow or when we get there, but I doubt this will happen. I can't think of a safer place than Shalandar. Most people believe it's nothing more than a legend. And I must admit I did too...

As for its position, I don't know if those indications refer to our time or to the time before the cataclysm. But yes, I guess that if they refer to our time, Shalandar could be close to Neraka, or maybe in the Khur region. But let's see if Farva's spell can help us with this"

She turned to the other red robed mage and watched him cast his spell. When he was done, she looked curiously at the map. There was a red blinking spot in the burning lands. The funny thing was that the spot kept moving from place to place. Cherizal frowned and shook her head.

"It looks like the city is somewhere in the burning lands, but I don't know if the spell couldn't define the exact location or if the city moves like the forest of Wayreth" she shrugged and looked to her companions "Well, we have something to start with. His horse was already saddled and waiting from this morning, and he yearned to take the stallion for a decent run.

With one long and somewhat forlorn look around the taverns common room, he turned and followed his companions into the morning light...

Thankful that the questioning had stopped for now, Ryn made his way outside with the others. The box had intrigued the black robe immensly, but after musing on it for several heart beats, he pushed the thought aside. He voiced to the others. " Horses and I do not fair well with each other....... I shall be around...... ", he took out something from one of his pouches, placing the silver ring on his right hand. Muttering under his breath, Ryn made to leap into the air, at which point his body convulsed, apparently rather painfully due to his small scream. Feathers, black and shimmering, sprouted over him, as did wings.....

In the span of a few breaths, Ryn was in the morning air, a black raven to all appearances. His words whispered again. I'll be around....Apparently there are more important things in life than fashion. Yeah, right.

"Let's go then" she said smiling and rode off.

IC: …Albion swung himself up upon his chestnut gelding and touched his heels to its flanks, the horse springing forward suddenly and clattering down the cobbled roadway, the former swordsman’s smile broad as he guided his horse along the roadway, glancing over his shoulder at his companions.

“And I thought you all could ride” he called back at them laughing, as he kicked his heels and urged the steed on faster. He felt good, felt alive, and this in itself frightened him in some ways, as he knew the price lay behind him tied to his saddle bags and carefully wrapped in black silk…

OOC: Ok, DS, this is what's happened so far. The companions met in Caergoth and Cherizal told them about her quest: some powerful items have been stolen from the tower of high sorcery in Palanthas. If a mage manage to retrieve those items, he/she will become Dalamar's assistant.

Mer (played by Erylaen) left after she heard what kind of quest Cherizal had in mind. A black robed mage (Ryn - Dark_Master) heard their conversation and asked to join the group. He had been in the tower when the theft was committed. Cherizal seemed interested and Eden (Arcturus) left because he didn't want to have anything to do with Ryn.

All the others have accepted to follow Cherizal. They had a problem to deal with though: they didn't know where to look for the items. But Cherizal had a magical box which could answer one question. The morning after she asked the box where the item were kept and the box answered that they were in the lost city of Shalandar.

(Shalandar is a city that disappeared 200 years before the cataclysm, there's nothing left where it was once. The legend says that it is to be found north of Silvanesti and east of Blöde and that it can accessed going through some kind of portal)

Farva cast a spell on an enchanted map he had and they found out that the city was in the burning lands. After this the companions left the inn and rode off.

That was it! Hope to see a post from you soon :)

During all the time that had passed while they were trying to discern where to find the magic items, Kale had been sitting in the background, meditating and communing with his goddess.

In a state of almost dreamlike reverie, he had sat in the corner with his legs crossed, and if you looked closely, you could see his wood and stone amulet glowing a faint green and brown, the colours of the wood. Suddenly, when he found out they were prepared to leave, his eyes popped open and he got up and followed them out the door.

They went to the stables and he found his trusty ebony horse Nuin, and they rode off. He smiled when he saw Albion and Raq racing, remembering how those two liked to be so competitive.
Riding up alongside Cherizal, he he adjusted to her horses pace. "So tell me, where exactly our we going?" he asked her calmly, as if he already knew the answer, yet waited to hear it from her mouth.

He picked a fence that bordered the roadway and a garden and galloped his gelding towards it, the chestnut horse leaping gracefully over the stone wall and Albion countered the movements with practised ease, he reigned in the horse on the far side and laughed to himself, happy to be in the free air again as he waved Raq to follow him over the wall...

It's going to be a long trip and I haven't decided which way to follow yet. But we start heading east and then we'll see how things are going. I don't know how dangerous this is going to be. You can be most certain of that, Cherizal., not far above, the dark raven soared, skimming low and coming to land on Cherizal's shoulder. A sound escaped the beak of the transformed mage, almost a sigh. I... I was not sent by Dalamar..... I'm afraid I fell out of favour with the Head of my Order, for allowing the objects to be stolen....... though there was little I could do about it... , the words entering her head where laced with bitter resentment and anger. My stumbling upon you was a stroke of luck, to which I thank my Dark Lord. In aiding to recover the blasted books and artifacts....... I may fall back into favour with him. But we shall see. For now I will scout ahead, as I cannot stay in this form for a great period of time. , in a flurry of wings, Ryn took off once more, racing overhead into the near distance.Apparently there are more important things in life than fashion. Yeah, right.

11/18/2003 3:21 AM

Cherizal nodded at Ryn's words, they made sense to her, but they were a matter of concern as well. If Ryn wanted to regain Dalamar's favour, he could probably try to take the artifacts from her once they had retrieved them. She would have to watch her back and she was grateful for the presence of her friends.

They rode most of the day with only a short stop for lunch. It was now late afternoon and Cherizal's body was aching because of the long ride. It's easy to see that I haven't been much on the road lately she thought with selfmockery.

Everything seemed to be fine, but she had a strange feeling of being watched. She turned her head to the trees along the road and spottet something. She couldn't really make out what it was. It looked mostly like a bunch of dark shadows running at their same pace.

She reined the horse to stop and searched the area with her keen elven eyes. There was nothing unusual or suspicious. She shook her head.
"I must have dreamed. I guess I don't get enough sleep" she muttered to herself. "Maybe it's time to camp for the night and get some rest"

IC: …Albion reined in his chestnut gelding near Cherizal’s shaking his head and wearing an embarrassed smile as he looked to the Silvanesti maiden. He ran a calloused hand through his auburn hair and looked happily over the small party. To the former swordman it almost felt complete again, though he did indeed miss the company of the enigmatic Eden and the company of Mer who he thought shared a similar outlook.

“I must be slipping.” He said as he recalled the race with Raq he had agreed to earlier, he had lost to the young woman but had indeed given himself a good accounting. “I would have won that race five years ago, I must be getting old.” He half-joked. Though only just over thirty summers he was indeed beginning to feel old, especially when in comparison his companions seemed more or less exactly the same.

“Talking to yourself is not a habit I remember you having either Cheri, I would have expected that from Kale, all alone in the woods and all,” he said as he smiled broadly and glanced over to the Kagonesti.

He glanced around the landscape and shifted awkwardly in the saddle, still not quite used to his hauberk armour, as he scanned for a suitable camp…

Cherizal smiled faintly to Albion. That strange feeling was still nagging her and she could not convince herself that it was a fruit of her imagination.

"Have you noticed anything strange, Albion? I thought I saw something behind those trees. It looked like some shadows were following us, but it could have been an hallucination, or some animals... I am tired after all. I think we should stop for the night. Ryn may have seen something though. I'll ask him when he gets back to us."

Kale trotted up beside Cherizal and Albion, a look of fear in his eyes. "I think we are being followed," he said, voicing the fears that were apparent in Cherizal's mind.
His heightened senses picked up the call of the forest, the rustling of the leaves, the call of the wild animals. They all spoke of the same thing: danger. "It would be safe if we found a place to make camp for the night, preferably on higher ground."

Taking his quarterstaff out and jumping off his horse, he ran swiftly over to an overturned rock, and jumped on top of it.
Looking around, he pointed to a bare hill not far to the west. "I think we should make way to that hill over there. We would be able to defend it easier than if we were on flat ground."

He looked at his friends for a sign of approval. Glancing uneasily behind them, he gripped his medallion of faith and asked for the comfort of the goddess. "You cannot reach them. We tried once, yes, precious. I tried once;

"You felt it too... I was afraid I was getting paranoid. I didn't expect problems this soon... " she shook her head with a concerned look on her face.

"I don't know what or who is following us. I can feel this presence, but it's not clear. I guess we will find out soon though. Camping on that hill sounds like a good idea to me" she motioned the others to follow and rode off toward the hill Kale had pointed to. When she got there, she dismounted and looked around to make sure that the place was suitable for a comfortable camp and a good defense, should they need it.

"This place looks fine. Good choice, Kale. Who volounteers to make food? Do you think it's too dangerous to have a fire?" she asked to the others with a tensed smile on her lips.

“If they are following us then I guess they know where we are anyway, so we may as well light a fire and keep warm at the very least.” He said solemnly as he retrieved the silk wrapped bundle from behind his saddle and began working the knots that tied it with some trepidation.

“If there is anything out there I think they will probably come for us at night, when half of us are blind.” He said his smile all but gone as he surveyed the trees once again…

BIC: indeed the group was being followed. A black mare with a white flash down its forhead snorted and pulled restlessly at the reins, and the woman that sat in the saddle soothed the restless horse.

The woman was slender and lithe, and sat tall in the saddle. Dark auburn hair was pulled back from her face in a single braid, her eyes a brilliant emerald green flitted across the trail and the trees around her. Juri frowned, the tracks ahead of her were easily read and the group had picked up their pace.

"Dang... Come on Star... we'll have to move a little faster to keep up..." the mare snorted and Juri allowed the mare her head and they picked their way along the trail at a brisk pace.

The large black crow followed along behind, only the rustle of his wings could be heard over the pounding of Stars' hooves.

Fly ahead Miki... Follow them... her natural empathy with animals allowed her to commune silently with both Star and Miki, the crow cawed and banked into the treeline, as he sped on, finally flying around the group ahead, he cawed twice and then circled back, watching as they set up their camp.

There was a loud and pronounced cawing from within the trees, then a strangled choking noise..... several gasps..... and then he emerged from out of the shadows, a sheen of sweat on his forehead. " Nothing of great interest ahead...... well..... not that I could see anyway... ", taking in another deep breath, Ryn started forward again, taking in the pot of stew. He refrained from mentioning what he over heard about taking watch, not wishing to take part in it.

He found a vacant place not far from fire and sat down, taking off the ring on his right hand, and book from one of his bags. Opening it, he flicked through several pages, finding the on he was after easily. Placing the ring on the page, he traced a few symbols in the air over the silver ring..... the text on the page glowed once. He smiled slightly after whispering several words, and replaced the ring in one of his pockets.

Moonlight streamed into the cavern and fell upon Eden's face. He shifted slightly, then groaned. Slowly, painfully opening his eyes, he had to wait for a minute to get back into focus. Glaring up at the red moon bearing down on him, he began to pick himself up. His whole body ached, his mind ached, and he couldn't think straight.

Looking around, he seemed lost for a moment before remembering where he was. It took him, though, only a second to figure out why.

The portal to the Grey, a dark, shapeless mass, stood before him, its doors still wide open. His mind flashed back to the split second before he had fallen unconcious. Khellendros' talon grabbing him, taking the remainder of his energies before leaving the plane...

Scowling slightly, he raised his hand on impluse to close the portal. Drawing a sigil into the air, he called forth the magical energies locked within him to close the gate.

Nothing came out.

Staring at his hand, he cursed as he saw the dragon's rune glowing softly on the skin of his palm.

The bastard knew. He planned taking the power away from the beginning. Damn me for not suspecting this before!

It was too late, though, to do anything. Sighing wearily, he crawled over to the side of the cavern and sat down against it.

I should return to the group, he thought to himself as he felt unconsiouness steal over him again. I should...

He raised his hand weakly, drew the rune, called the energies. Khellendros' mark glowed brightly as his body turned to smoke...

***

A loud thump was heard in the bushes nearby the camp, followed by the soft snores of a weary, strange elf. He was wearing robes on his bottom half, but was wearing a ranger's attire on his top.

((OOC: Basically Khellendros' mark does thus: Forces random amounts of magic out of the Irda, making his spells extremely wild and uncontrollable. Unless I don't know my character, Eden will be careful when using his magic from now on...Unless he's around Ryn :p.

Cherizal watched the page of Ryn's book glow and wondered what kind of spell he had cast. The mage had said he hadn't seen anything interesting ahead.. But had he noticed the "thing" that was following them?

Still pondering she took her spellbook to do some studying while the others sat around the fire drinking tea and chatting. It was not late, but it was already completely dark and the air was cool.

A loud thumb came suddenly from the bushes nearby and they all fell silent. Cherizal jumped to her feet alarmed and looked around trying to understand what had made the noise. She signed for the others to stay where they were and stalked to the bushes with the words of an offensive spell already on her lips.

When she finally reached the bushes, her eyes widened in surprise and she laughed out loud. Eden was lying there sound asleep and dressed in a quite strange attire.
She turned to the rest of the companions and pointed at the sleeping figure with a broad smile.

Ryn glanced towards the slumbering figure. " Oh my, how exciting..... I can't wait till he wakes up..... would be a pity if he didn't....... ", his voice was dripping with sarcasm. He had closed the spell book, placing it once more in one of his bags, taking a different book at the same time. Passing his hand over the black leather bound spellbook, Ryn opened it, a sudden chill passing over the small encampment........ so sudden is was a simple breeze, but the young magic user would undoubtably know what it was.

" Wonder where he had disappeared to........ ", whilst his voice came across with little indifference, the dark mage was extremely keen as to where the strange elf had been.... a possible spy? The thought had occured when he first left.

Focusing on his spellbook, he started memorising the few that he could with all the distractions around him. Ryn wondered if Cherizal had any useful spells....... but let the thought pass over for now.Apparently there are more important things in life than fashion. Yeah, right.

Juri took note on the setting sun, and debated on wether to continue on in the dark or set up camp. Opting for continuing, she urged the mare onward. The crow had returned, and was perched on her shoulder... the crows vision was now limited in the shadowed twilight, and he wouldn't be much help from here on in... but she could utilize some of the wilder animals around... providing they could be persuded to help....

The mare shied at a noise in the growing darkness and Juri did her best to sooth the beast. "Come on now star... you're not normally so skittish at the dark... what's got you spooked girl??" Juri questioned as she reined the mare in to a halt.

He head over to his saddle which rested near a fallen log and retrieved his blanket, walking back over to the enigmatic Irda and throwing the blanket over him. Once done he turned and walked back towards the centre of the camp and then over to his chestnut gelding and quickly swung himself upon the horses bare-back, tugging on its rein and walking him a few steps towards the edge of the camp.

“Cheri, I’m just going to take a quick look around and make sure nothing is out there, I saw a rise about a mile or so back along the road that should give me a decent lay of the land. IC: …Albion sat astride his chestnut gelding, gazing out over the woodlands below, his eyes searching for signs of whatever was following them. The swordsman trusted his friends’ judgement and believed them when they thought something was out there despite his inability to see or sense anything.

As he watched a dark horse burst from a nearby copse of trees and Albion spied its tack and harness but no rider, he looked back along where the horse had come from but saw nothing but the green canopy of the trees. He touched his heels to his steeds flanks and urged the horse into a run after the runaway mount…

Cherizal walked slowly into the wood with a ball of magical white light in her right hand. Thanks to her elven sight she didn't really need the light, but it comforted her somehow and she hoped it could scare away some of the creatures that were after them.

She stopped and emptied her mind trying to get information from the nature around her. The air there was even colder than in the camp. She kneeled and touched the ground, it was hard and frozen. She pulled up the hood of her cloak trying to protect her face from the icy wind.

Something was moving behind the trees to her left. White shadows appeared. They moved slowly toward her freezing everything on their path. Cherizal felt her limbs get heavy and cold, her cloak was covered in a thin layer of ice. She managed to turn her back on the shadows and run back to the camp.

"Ice elementals! They are coming" she shouted to her companions.

"Woah, Juri!" Raq said with excitement, "I know you! Or by reputation, at least. I'm Raq...and my group is over that hill," She pointed, "You can come if you want!" (http://www.deviantart.com/view/3653881/)

Juri made as if to reply when a pained expression crossed her face, and she shivered involintarily. "Your friends? where are they? We have trouble, we need to get to them!" She didn't make any more explanations, and turned towards the direction that she felt the danger. She could feel the panic of the wild animals around her, and their sudden lack of being... as if they where struck down simulaneously.

"Ice... a cold frozen death..." She muttered as she pushed her way through the underbrush. "They don't call me Phoenix for nothing..." she said, plowing ahead, not noticing or caring if Raq followed.

: Miki, stay away!: She thought-sent, urging the crow away with sharp mental images...

Raq dashed after Juri, wondering what was going on, "What's wrong?" SHe shouted over to her, "WHat's going on?!"(http://www.deviantart.com/view/3653881/)

Juri ran on, her long dark auburn hair wipping in the icy wind that began to blow around them. "Something that is freezing everything in it's path...and from what I'm getting it's heading for a group of people! It can only be your friends..." She panted as she cleared the trees that surrounded the camp....

Kale looked at Juri in surprise. "Ice elementals.... what power has conjured ice elementals to oppose us?"
His eyes wandered down the path that Juri had taken into the camp and saw that what they said was true.

Frost was encasing the leaves and freezing the ground, and the temperature was beggining to drop in the immediate area. "We must do something..." he looked to Cherizal. "We need fire. Fire is the only thing that can stand against ice."

"Raq, Juri, Cherizal! I have an idea! Come to the top of the hill," he said while gesturing towards their camp. He began to sprinkle a fine trail of ashes around the area of their camp. "Hurry, get into the circle of ashes!"

OOC: I'll wait until they get back to camp and use a nature spell to help out ^-^"You cannot reach them. We tried once, yes, precious. I tried once;

OOC: Wow, that was a quick acceptance to Juri's presence.... no "Who the hell are you?" lol... and whatever you're planning Juri can augment with no problem... They do call her "Phoenix" *Hint Hint*

"Come on!" Raq shouted, sprinting up the hill and into the ashes , "I reallly dun wanna die!" She laughed weakly and rushed through her pouches. Pulling out a scroll with a red ribbon tied around it, she thrust it into the mage's hand, "Take this! It's a fire scroll, me thinks! Try it!" (http://www.deviantart.com/view/3653881/)

Juri followed Raq, and nodded to the mage. "Whatever you create I can manipulate Mage... Just create a fire and watch the fun..." she said grimly, her eyes narrowed in concentration.

OOC: Ok, that was strange.... and btw, Kale is very accepting of strangers, a good judge of character ^_~

IC: Kale grinned. "Actually, I'm no mage. I am a follower of the nature goddess, Chislev Wilder. I am granted nature magic through her grace." With that, he grasped one hand to his medallion of faith and closed his eyes, a prayer on his lips.
With his other hand, he pointed around him in a circle and fire sprang up instantly from the ashes. The flames danced high and blocked the passage of the ice elementals, and he looked surprised and impressed at Juri. "I'm afraid that won't be a permanent barrier. We'll have to come up with something to defeat them once and for all," he said, his eyes wandering over to Cherizal. "We will need magic.""You cannot reach them. We tried once, yes, precious. The flames danced higher, and moved slightly away from the group, closer to the elementals.

"Nonsense... I can keep... the barrier up as... long as there is something.. to burn... if I run out of fuel, I ...can burn the air... for a few moments..." Juri's voice came in short pants of breath, her hair wipping wildly about her head and shoulders by the tempest wind caused by the flames.

OOC: Dark Sage, if you read all the posts, you will find out that Juri hasn't been introduced to the group yet (that's what Kalia meant). She has just met Raq, but the others are unaware of her presence (well, not anymore).

BIC: Cherizal nodded absently at Juri. There was no time to be properly introduced and if the girl could be of some help, then she was more than welcome.

"Ryn, Farva... Help me!" she shouted at the other two mages, whilst she found ashes in one of her pouches and cast them in the air chanting a few arcane words. A rain of fire bolts hit the closest ice elementals and dissolved them. But more were coming and they were getting nearer with unbelievable speed.

In spite of the circle of fire Cherizal was freezing, the wind started blowing harder and the fire created by the companions was pushed towards them. The circle was getting smaller and the red robed elf looked at the others in panic. The choice was between being burned or frozen to death.

Cursing under her breath Cherizal called the rain. A magical cloud appeared over their heads and a gentle rain estinguished the fire. Now they were surrounded by a circle of ice elementals.
"I'll try a fire ball now. Farva, rise a protective shield as soon as I've cast my spell, so the wind won't send the fire back to us."

She turned to Farva to make sure he had understood her words, then she threw a fire ball towards the creatures before her. Before Farva could raise a shield a pack of elementals reached the spot were Eden was still sleeping and then they all disappeared.

Cherizal blinked confused.
"They are all gone... And they took Eden... Blessed Lunitari... What's going on here?!" she looked at the others with a raised brow hoping they could give her an answer.

Juri only shook her head, her eyes slightly unfocused as she strived to fight off the reaction-headache of her "gift".

"I have no clue... I do know that I have to find my horse...." She said her teeth gritted against the pain.

OOC: I guess I'm in the killing mood today. I can't really kill people, so I kill threads instead. Well, Arandur, Dark Master, Arcturus and Farva are gone, PoD only writes two lines posts, so there's no meaning in trying to keep this alive. I really hate to do this... :( Anyway I will revive the thread, if people come back.I feel at home among the insane - Overkill
