OOC: … I thought I’d try an idea I had here, about writing about the Second War of the Lance during the Age of Mortals and after the supposed death of the Dark Queen from both sides of the tale. One thread for the Forces of Light and another for the Forces of Darkness. Feel free to join, my only stipulation is that you present a single character only rather than a dozen (it gets too confusing). As you can guess from the title and the prologue below this thread is dedicated to the heroes of the War…

IC: …In the idyllic paradise of the gods of light, walked the blessed Goddess Mishakal, lost in her own grief and sorrow despite the vast beauty that surrounded her. She felt the loss of her husband Paladine as keenly as she would have felt a death blow. She felt numb, and lost despite the love of her clerics and followers in the world below that traveled in the ether of the mortal realm.

She trailed her hands in the serene pools of the courtyard and looked down at her pale unblemished face. There was sadness in her clear blue eyes, a sadness she hadn’t felt since the world of Krynn was young and the first act of murder was committed.

She became aware of the presence of another, his form so painfully in contrast with the soft peace of Mishakal’s favoured garden. She looked up and forced a smile to her saddened face. The newcomer was clad in gilded plate that glinted the light, spreading it’s reflection in a myriad of shattered shapes upon the garden around him.

“I have news” he spoke, his voice filled with courage and loyalty and all things valued by those of a stout heart. Kiri-Jolith looked to his friend, unable to say or do anything to help, despite his vast and unimaginable powers. He hated to force this news upon her, but she had a duty and a responsibility to those on the world below.

“It is as we feared. He has risen once again.” The god said simply as Mishakal’s smile faltered and she dropped her face into her delicate hands and wept. Kiri-Jolith longed to step forward and comfort his friend, but he steeled his heart for the sake of the people and the future of Krynn.

“You know that we cannot aid the people of the world other than through our gift of magic and divine prayer. We agreed on this, after our return and the death of Tahkisis and the banishment of Paladine. Never again shall a god attempt to interfere directly in the world below, so we transcribed in the Tobril, the book of Creation that binds even us to its written word and kept by Gilean, the Master of the Balance.”

The god of valour smacked his gauntlet against his palm in righteous frustration. “The monster will destroy all that we have fought to protect, and we are powerless to stop him. The dragons of Paladine are still lost to this world, traveling through the Grey and still searching for us, a trick of Tahkisis. Even from her grave her hand seeks to choke the life out of the world. There is but a handful of the good dragons left and they sleep, deep within the world.” He shook his head in sorrow.

Mishakal looked to the knightly god and reached out a tentative, shaking hand to rest upon his arm. “Perhaps not all is lost” she said softly “we can still help those below, in subtle ways. Through dreams and portents, we can help them find what they need to fight, to give them hope against the darkness

Finally back home thought Dlenje Aspeløv spotting the vallenwoods of Solace. After a few weeks spent with a party of humans searching for a girl kidnapped by dark knights, she was looking forward to a few days of relax in her little house.

Dlenje had spent most of her life in Solace where she had been raised by her human mother Ralina. She had never met her father, a qualinesti elf who had fallen in love with Ralina during a short stay in Solace. After his departure Ralina had found out that she was with child. She never saw the elf again and the only memory of him she had was a necklace with a lapislazuli pendant.

The necklace adorned now Dlenje's neck, her mother had given it to her before dying. After the death of her mother, Dlenje had tried to enter Qualinesti to find her father but she had been forced to leave by a rain of arrows. She still had a long scar on her left shoulder where one of those arrows had hit her.

She lived alone in the house that had been her mother's and earned her living as a tracker. Once she entered the town she met several people she knew and waved at them smiling. She noticed the looks she got from some of the boys and chuckled. It must be my elven heritage she thought. The slightly pointed years and the almond shaped green eyes made her look undoubtly more exotic than most of the girls living in Solace.

She stopped at the Inn of the Last home to get some dinner and hear the latest news, then she headed for her house and her bed. Sleep came easily but didn't bring much rest. Images of a black robed man and of a red dragon haunted her dreams.

When she awaked she was bathed in sweat and she was at the same time freezing. She rubbed her eyes while she got up and started making tea. She had learned to listen to her dreams, so she sat down with a mug in her hands and tried to interpret the message in her dream.

A red dragon? And a man in black robes? A mage maybe? She scowled. She didn't like magic users. Well, that was wrong. It was magic itself she didn't like, or better trust. One of her best friends ever had been a red robed girl called Bellis. She had even studied some magic with her, but Bellis had died after the war of chaos trying to use a magical artefact. After this sad event Dlenje had abandoned magic.

What has the red dragon to do with the man? Do they work together? And why do I dream of them? Maybe I'll find out more next time I dream Running a hand through her black hair and jawning loudly, she decided that it was time for some fresh air and a morning walk.

OOC: I must admit that starting with a half-elf in Solace is not very original, but I couldn't be bothered to find a better location ;)

"What a beautiful morning." he said as he trudged into town on foot. "Solace at last... damn I'm hungry." It was still early in town, not many folks were outside yet, so he wandered the street a little. The few that were outside turned their eyes from him, acting as though they haden't seen him. He noticed. Furrowing his brow, he drew his sword and looked at himself in it's reflection.

"Well, I need a shave, but I don't look that bad..."

He glanced around, sheathing his sword. Finding a local, he tapped him on the shoulder.

"Excuse me." He said. The old man turned around, looking sraight into his chest. Looking up at the younger man, he squinted.

"What? Ain't ya got nuthin' better to do than harass an old man gettin some fresh air?!"

"I'm sorry sir," he stammered. "It's just, people are..." he looked around, then back at the old man." Well, they're ignoring me...do I have something on my face? Or do I smell or something?

"Oh dear Paladine..." mumbled the old man. "It's yer height ya bumbling fool!" the old man laughed. "What are ya?... Hmmm... Seven? Seven feet tall? Gods boy, people might be used to ya where you come from, but here, if it's as big as you it's usually a bad thing."

The man shook is head. "I didn't even think of that. I'm so used to getting stares, I just didn't think about it the other way." The man laughed. "So where can I get a good bite to eat around here?"

"Gods, boy," the old man chuckled. "Ain't you never heard of the Inn of the Last Home? Best spiced potatoes in all of Ansalon! Right up that stairway over yonder." He pointed towards the base of a large Vallenwood tree.

"Well, thank you sir." The man said as he trotted towards stairway. "The name's Jorgan by the way sir. Thanks for your help!" he said as he crossed the street and began walking towards the Inn of the Last Home.

She noticed a... rather overly tall man striding towards the Inn and her mouth hung open at the sight of someone so tall. The barmaid hadn't seen someone like that in quite some time. She just hoped he wouldn't be trouble.

While she waited for his arrival, she finished wiping down a few tables and went behind the bar. Kilairiandralsilvantaslik.. The Abomination. Known to most as Airiana and Last of the Silver/Red Dragons

OOC: I HATE AA!

BIC: Korso marched through the marketplace of Solace. He was the Head Commander of the new Solace military. It was a newly formed organization and it was fairly small. There were only fiftly soldiers. However, their specialty was the twenty man cavalry, which Korso also commanded.

Korso was well respected in Solace. He held his position with dignity and pride. He was a great fighter of middle age, and did not hide behind his army. He was always in the front of his fleet during battle. Solace was getting more dangerous every year. Sadly, the peaceful, goodhearted town was now a target spot for people everywhere looking for homes. This also brought trouble every once and a while.

Korso stood out in the crowd. He wore his red cape down to his waist. Everyone knew his position and recognized him at the sight of the cape. He wore leather armor belted across his chest and thighs. He was six feet tall and of average build. He had long blond hair and a finely shaved mustache and a small beard. He knew how to wield most weapons, but prefered his two handed sword which was hilted at his side. Along with this he had a long bow over his shoulder and a full quiver of arrows. He also had a few daggers in his belt. Korso was a heart throb at sight, but his personality was tainted with overconfidence and the constant need to be number one, which always drove away the girls that really got to know him.

Korso was making his way up the winding steps to the Inn of The Last Home. Following him were two soldiers in similar leather armor and holding spears. Korso marched strongly into the door. Korso and the soldiers ran to the center of the inn. Korso had his sword drawn and the two soldiers held their spears up and ready. All three looked around the inn sharply. Finally Korso pointed and shouted.

"Over there!" Korso said loudly. The two men with the spears followed Korso to the table in the corner. A skulking man in the corner adorned in brown robes shot up at Korsos booming voice. He was the one they were after. The criminal tossed his robes off. It was a well built man with a thick beard. He began to run for the door. Korso and the two soldiers tackled the man hard to the ground.

"Bind his hands. Lock him away." Korso said, wiping some blood from his lips. The two soldiers quickly did as followed and carried the man off. Korso sheathed his sword and approached the barmaid.

"Good morning. How are you Karissa? I apologize for the mess. Only keeping things safe around here. I wouldnt want you to get hurt before we have lunch down at Crystalmir together." Korso said edging closer with his charming smile that has worked so many times with the more naive girls. Karissa was sort of like a game for him. She could see him inside out.

However, unlike many people on this web-site, I ascribe to "forgive and forget". I have no clue what your problem with me is, but please do not make all the others in this thread have to listen to you random, bizarre, complaints.

IC: …The door to the common room opened and a lithe figure stepped to doorway of the inn. He looked around the room with pale jade eyes full of wonder, almond shaped in the tell-tale sign that marked him clearly as an elf and could be seen plainly from under the hood of his emerald tunic cut in the style of the Qualinesti. He craned his head around as he stood in the doorway looking into the room, his eyes drinking in the common room. The Inn of the Last Home

He stepped lightly across the threshold, and glanced at the men binding the bearded criminal while weaving his way nimbly to a table by the window so he could sit in the morning sun and watched the in from beneath his hood.

Though still fairly young for an elf, he had spent a great deal of his life under the cruel tyrannical yoke of Berrylinthrannox, the great green dragon overlord, who's death had marked the destruction of the beautiful city of Qualinost and left a cold dark lake known to his people as the The Lake of Death.

With nothing left of his beloved home, the young elf had wandered Northwards, rather than cross the Plains of Dust with his people to beg for shelter with the Silvanesti elves.

He smoothed his sweaty palms against his soft doeskin breeches dyed a green so dark it almost seem black and smiled to himself as he thought this was the place where Tanis Half-elven and the Queen-Mother Laurana had once stayed...

Dlenje splashed some cold water in her face and put her usual outfit on: a short leather skirt, a black blouse and thigh high boots. She brushed her long hair and went out. She stood still for a moment enjoying the morning breeze and the sun warming her pale skin. Her stomach was rumbling.

I guess it's time for some breakfast.
Gingerly she walked toward the inn of the last home. She always ate her meals there when she could afford it. At the moment her money pouch was filled with newly earned steel pieces and she felt she deserved something extra good and tasty. She liked the atmosphere of the inn, it was always very friendly, the food and the ale were good and she often met interesting people that would hire her for a time.

It looked like this could be one of her lucky days. The inn was full and besides the regulars there were a few new faces. She regarded them thoughtfully while she found a seat and asked Karissa to bring her some breakfast.

BIC:

Kanir slowly walked through Solace, admiring the legendary vallenwoods, and looking for the inn. The flap of cloth from the back of his odd outfit served as a hood, masking his feline features. The cat-man from the mountains near Thorbardin looked around happily. He entered the inn, and noticed a bar-maid wiping down tables. (Karissa) "Are there rooms for the night?" he asked hesitantly, hoping his common was still good. He had been in dwarven territories lately, and had been only speaking dwarven.

Karissa eyed the strange-looking traveller warily for a moment, wondering if she should allow him to stay or not. Since just about everyone else was off, it was her decision. Well, he doesn't look like he could do too much damage... She thought to herself before flashing a dazzling smile at the stranger and trying to decifer his thickly accented Common. "Of course we have rooms," she smiled, catching what he'd said. "How long do you wish to be staying with us?"

Karissa rolled her sapphire eyes when Korso made his way in, full of bravado and attacking who had been, only a few minutes earlier, Karissa's only customer.

"Good morning. How are you Karissa? I apologize for the mess. Only keeping things safe around here. I wouldn't want you to get hurt before we have lunch down at Crystalmir together." Korso said edging closer with his charming smile that has worked so many times with the more naive girls. Karissa was sort of like a game for him. She could see him inside out.

She rolled her eyes again and sighed when the commander came up to her, spewing his usual lines. "Korso, if you actually think I'd go to Crystalmir with you, you've got another thing coming. And besides, what has that man done, anyways? He came in here quietly and ordered his food and drink, and I've heard not another word from him! He hasn't moved from that spot for almost an hour. What could he have possibly done to 'endanger' Solace and its townfolk?" She said, putting a hand on her hip. She tossed her long, dark curls over her shoulder and eyed the commander unflinchingly.

…The door to the common room opened and a lithe figure stepped to doorway of the inn. He looked around the room with pale jade eyes full of wonder, almond shaped in the tell-tale sign that marked him clearly as an elf and could be seen plainly from under the hood of his emerald tunic cut in the style of the Qualinesti. Karissa turned away from Korso at the Qualinesti's arrival. Gods, she thought. Business is coming along quite nicely! Midmorning and so many customers already!

She went over to the window table where the handsome elf had sat and took out a pad of paper and pencil. Judging that he was Qualinesti, she spoke in that language, though her accent was thick. "What may I bring you, sir?" She asked with a ready smile.

It looked like this could be one of her lucky days. The inn was full and besides the regulars there were a few new faces. She regarded them thoughtfully while she found a seat and asked Karissa to bring her some breakfast.

Karissa nodded to Dlenje as she excused herself from elf for a moment, grabbing the food that was waiting for the woman. She set it before her and returned to the Qualinesti. Kilairiandralsilvantaslik.. The Abomination. Known to most as Airiana and Last of the Silver/Red Dragons

The door opened again, and Jorgan stooped his head to enter. Stretching, he yawned.

"I hate stairs...it's too early in the morning to do anything physical..." he trailed off, looking around the common room.

Among the mercanary crowd, he was well known, his looks were above average, though he was certainly no Bradius Pittius. But the most distinguishing feature about him was his height, standing tall at just over seven feet.

He wasn't a powerhouse by any means, he was rather lanky and dextrous in fact, and his armor was light, aiding in his movement, his body covered with blades. He is dressed in leather armor, with a studded leather sleaveless vest, leather gloves, and a leather bandana (Rambo style) which holds his bangs out of his eyes, but also causes them to spike straight up,

Strapped across his back at his right shoulder, he has a two handed bastard sword, with a strange green metal blade. The sword resonates no magic, yet there is obviously something special about it. At his left shoulder is strapped a longsword. At his waist is a broadsword, in each boot are long daggers, on each hip is a dagger, and on his belt hangs a short dagger among a couple small pouches.

Popping his neck, he went for a table in the middle of the room. Taking a seat, he waited for service.

"Yes, we own it, though it is truly my cousins who do... I merely work here to earn my keep while going to school." When the Qualinesti bowed to her, the barmaid was quite startled for a moment, but kept it in check. "It is an honor to meet an elf as open-minded as you, sir. May I ask your name? Mine is Karissa... Dlenje listened to the conversations going on around her, while she enjoyed her morning meal. Hearing Araydiel's question and Karissa's answer, she took her plate and approached the elf.

Smiling she asked him:
"Do you mind if I sit here? I heard you ask information about Solace and I thought that I could be of help. I've lived here most of my life and know most of the people in town. And then if I may ask, what brings you to Solace? Why ain't you with your people trying to make a new home for yourself? Have you any news about what's happening to the Qualinesti elves right now?"

…The elf nodded, still smiling “I am Araydielinthannis, though I have been told that elfin names are too long for humans to pronounce. Araydiel will be fine.” He said nodding to the young waitress in answer before she moved to the next patron. The elf slid his glance across to the tall figure, his cool jade eyes noting the abundance of weapons the man carried.

Karissa nodded her head, trying to remember the name. Araydielinthannis... wow, what a name! Hmm... what did he say the shortened one was? Araydiel? Well, that'll be loads easier to remember! She thought to herself with a smile.

I'll have some of that spiced potatoes the old man downstairs was raving about." He said. "And the names Jorgan, ma'am. Also, ya got anything good to drink? Any good juices? I'll take one of those." he said smiling, before Karissa could respond.

Karissa scribbled down Jorgan's order and flashed a quick but radiant smile. "Please, I'm too young to be a ma'am, call me Karissa." She said with a wink. "I'll be back with your food and drink in just a moment." She said as she walked off, dark hair trailing behind her as she made her way to the bar.

As Karissa returned to the bar, she looked at the cat-man curiously for a moment. "Five steel, sir. Would you be needing food or drink?" She asked softly, pouring a tea for Araydiel and one of the only non-alcoholic juices for Jorgan.

Before getting his answer, she excused herself to the kitchen for a moment where a short man stood at the stove. "Jay... a plate of spiced potatoes!" She said before turning back from the swinging door to again face Kanir.

"I do not respond to fool, sir. If you are looking for trouble, I would suggest not here, not now. It's too early in the morning, and you are too drunk. At this point in time, a fight between us would consist of three hits. You hitting me, me hitting you, and you hitting the floor."

With lightning speed, Jorgan rose from his seat, drawing his broadsword. With a swing that blurred through the air he knocked the sword from the drunken man's hand, sending it skidding across the floor.

"Go back to your table sir." He stared unblinkingly down into the man's face. The school year has just begun and already the shootings have started. Who would have thought the 3 Rs would be reading, writing, and reloading? Stay in school, but out of the line of fire.

The tall willowy elf-woman idly picked at the mother of pearl hem of her elegant dress. Despite the rustic surrounds of the darkened cave she sat in, the woman looked as regal as any queen. Her dark tresses of hair fell long, almost to the back of her knees and her skin was as pale and unblemished as the moon Solinari.

She listened with a look of disinterest to the armored figure before her as she glanced to her green laquered nails critically, inspecting them for signs of wear.

“All appears quiet in the town milady,” said the man dressed in darkened mail of over-lapping green scale-mail armor, his helm was fashioned like that of a dragon, mouth agape as if it was to bellow forth a gout of flame. He was bowed on one knee, a hand on the hilt of his blade and the other cradled the helm under his arm, his eyes were downcast in a show of respect. Or Fear.

“We have moved the 2nd and 3rd Legions of the Green Army into position. To attack an hour after nightfall, when the goblin troops can use their night vision to the best of their advantage. A courier arrived with news that the 1st Legion has moved into position near the entrance to the dwarven city and also reported that the last elements of the 4th and 5th Legions have moved to encircle the bewitched forest of Wayreth.” The officer stated with clear words that almost hid his nervousness

Voraschai listened to her subordinant's report with a clear mind that calculated every word despite her appearance of disinterest. She prided herself in being as sly as the namesake of the Dragonarmy she was an officer in. She sat back against the cool stone of the cavern and glanced at the sleeping forms of the green dragons. By dawn she, the Captain of the 2nd Green Legion, would be drinking tea over the ashes of Solace…

Karissa only rolled her eyes in response and collected the mugs in front of him. "Slow down there, commander... I think you've had enough for one morning." She said firmly, giving Korso a look that, had he been at all sober, he would have shivered at.

Kanir handed 5 steel to the woman, and turned around at a drunken shout.

Karissa took Kanir's money with a nod as she put it in a metal box hidden beneath the bar. She listened to Araydiel and Dlenje's conversation and thought of how much she would like to journey with the two of them. Anything to get out of Solace. She had been learning the language of magic for some time, and was told that, for her age, she was quite good at it. She could transfer spells to spellbooks and scrolls with ease, though she had had very little practice actually using the spells that she did so with.

For Karissa, thinking of her own future was hard; she wished to follow the path of both a warrior and a mage, which she knew was not allowed. She openly practiced magic, and in secret, trained with a shortsword that had been left to her. To top it all, she was learning, ever slowly, to control premonitions and out-of-body experiences... all while being a waitress.

Glimmer had flown to the edges of Solace Vale, she landed near the shores of Crystalmir Lake, and walked to the side of a pair of entwined trees. A shimmer of light ran down the length of her body, the crystalline dragon fading to reveal the form of a young woman.

Kalia sighed and rested her hand on the monumental figures of the entwined trees. one resembled a weeping willow, the leaves tinted silver, while the other, sheltering tree, seemed like a mighty Vallenwood in comparison...but neither was more beautiful, or stronger.

These two trees, the mark of an enduring love between two people... Her own Daughter, and her newly chosen mate, Hiaku. Kalia knew that they had chosen to stay near the town she herself considered "home", and that they shared the lair that once was occupied by a dragon friend, many years ago, deep within Solace Vale.

Just past the ridge of trees, Kalia could see the mighty Vallenwood that bore the burden of the Inn of the Last Home... She smiled faintly and began down the trail to the Inn, hoping to see some old friends.

OOC: …Okay, I thought I would move the story along to later that day just after nightfall, if it’s alright with everyone else in the thread. I figure pretty much everyone would be back at the Inn of the Last Home for an evening meal or a pint of their finest anyway…

IC: …After his morning tea, Araydiel had spent the day looking around the town of Solace, inspecting the smithy where Theros Ironfeld once worked, the nearby ruins of the failed Academy of Sorcery and the Tomb of Heroes where many of the Companions of the Lance now resided.

He found the people of Solace to be fairly open and seemingly used to travelers and adventurers in these parts and the Qualinesti chatted easily to famers about how well their crops had done or how well the calving seasons had been for their cows.

He inspected the barracks-house of the newly formed militia of Solace, regarding it critically from a distance with his keen elvish sight before deciding it was aesthetically unpleasant to his eyes. He supposed it served its purpose however.

After a long day of roaming the town, he had returned to the Inn, high in the lofty branches of a tall vallenwood tree…

OOC: Im going to do what Glass recommended and make Korso be his last name. So, for now on, regard him using his first name.

Sholan glimpsed out his window as he tied on his red cape and fastened on his long sword. He saw the male elf from the inn staring at the barracks. It was only momentarily, and then he walked away towards the inn. Sholan was about to leave when one of his younger scouts shouted his name.

"Commander Korso! Sir, we found goblin tracks. They are fresh and they appear to stop at the edge of town, then branch off into the forest!" The scout said with panic.

"Are there many?" Sholan asked.

"Yes sir, more than we've ever spotted before!" The scout responded.

"They are either sneaking around us, trying to avoid trouble, or they ar circling us, waiting to attack." Sholan pondered to himself. "Take some armed men with you and scout the perimeter of town. It is probably nothing dangerous, but we cant just let it go. You have your orders." Sholan said to the scout, who quickly jogged off.

Sholan continued out of the barracks and walked through the dark streets of Solace. He was not worried, since they have encountered goblins many times and have always come out victorious with little casualties.

He made his way up to the inn and entered the warm, chatterfilled environment. The Inn of the Last Home was a terrific place to relax and eat a nice meal. Sholan got his meals for free because of his position. He took a seat at the bar, his usual stool. He looked around the inn to see what people were there that night. He spotted the elf from before who had looked into the barracks. He approached him.

Kalia wasn't dressed in her normal white robes... for some reason she chose to be a little more inconspicuous. Tan leather leggings, with soft doe-skin boots. White tunic hidden by a deep green cloak that hid much of her features... Her gold eyes caught the light and glinted like the metal they represented, a lock of her silver hair gleamed in the firelight as she walked through the doorway.

A young, forein-looking man approached her immediately, and Kalia smiled as she recognized Hiaku. He whispered something that the others could not hear, and she shook her head. The dark haired man stepped back a pace, and nodded. with a slight bow, he slipped out the door. Kalia took his place at the small table by the hearth...

OOC: ...OK trying to set some thigs up here, I hope it all maks sense...

…The small group of militia from Solace had indeed found tracks of goblins in numbers far larger than anything in recent Solace history. The scout and his other men followed the tracks, wary and moving stealthily amongst the ferns and streams and moss-covered gullies that lay around the sleepy town of Solace. They wanted numbers, something more than speculation to report to their commander Sholan Kelso.

Crouching as they came closer to a bracken covered cave, the scout held up a hand to halt the other armsmen and dropped silently to his belly, slithering through the undergrowth to get a better look at the caverns entrance. His eyes surveyed the scene below and a cold feeling of ice twisted in his stomach as he saw a camp of goblins arrayed around the entrance.

He squinted in the darkness, and noticed human figures walking amongst the campfires, the light reflecting a sickly green from their serpentine scale armour as they walked amongst the goblins, derision on their face as they made their way towards the cave entrance. At a quick count, he estimated there was one hundred, maybe one hundred and twenty goblins and maybe two dozen humans, but who knew how many other camps like this were hidden in the woodlands surrounding Solace. One thing was for certain in the mind of the scout. They were here for Solace.

Moving quickly on his belly, away from the wooded ridge that overlooked the cavern, the scout made little noise. He allowed himself a small satisfied smile as he moved back to where he had left his companions. He stopped and glanced around, is eyes searching from left to right as he looked for his companions. They were gone, simply vanished. What in the name of Habbakuk? he thought.

A sudden snap of a twig behind him brought him whirling around and reaching for his short sword, his eyes widening in fear as he saw the wicked gleam of moonlight as it glanced off the draconic snout the colour of copper. A blade flashed with moonlight and then fell downward severing the scouts scream as well as his head…

___________________________________________________________

…In the darkness of the night a lone figure knelt on one knee before the tomb that held heroes of both the War of the Lance and Chaos War, his head pressed against the cold steel cross-guard of the sword that rested blade first before him as he said a silent prayer to those within.

The scant moonlight that streamed sporadically from behind darkened clouds reflected off the etched and filigreed plates of his armor wetly in the dim light, the cooling breeze of nightfall caressed his long black hair and blowing it lightly ascross he cheek and revealing a slightly pointed ear that marked him as one with elf in his bloodline

The figure raised his head and craned it towards the distant light, high in the branches of the Vallenwoods, his azhure eyes narrowing at the sight of the building known as the Inn of the Last Home…

___________________________________________________________

…The young Qualinesti elf smiled happily at the militia commander as he approached the table and tucked an errant strand of honey brown hair behind his ear, his clear eyes flicking to the large sword at the man’s side.

“Actually I have found Solace to be everything I was told it was going to be…and certainly much, much more.” He said in his melodic voice, heavily accented by his elvish accent. “Tell me sir, what’s it like being in command of…how many soldiers was it again?” he said as he took a deep drink of his scalding tea and looked about the room with eyes of wonder…

Jorgan cames through the front door to the inn. He had spent part of the day exploring the town. Much of his time was with the old man, who knew much of the history of Solace. As evening approached, he grew hungry and again bid farewell to the old man and hiked back up the stairs to the inn.

Scanning the room, he saw that the population of the common room had grown, and many new faces could be seen. Jorgan lost track of thought as he stood there, taking in every new face, trying to remember if he hasd seen them before. The school year has just begun and already the shootings have started. Dlenje had spent the whole day relaxing. It was badly needed after several weeks on the road. Not loving to cook, she decided to spend some more of her newly earned money on another meal at the inn of the last home. She had been thinking a lot about the dream she had had the night before and had decided to ask some questions around.

The inn was full as always. She looked around, waved her hand at several people she knew, then noticed the tall human that she had met the same morning. Let's hear what this stranger has to tell

"Good evening! I see you've come back in spite of what happened this morning. I hope you won't be harassed again. What brings you to Solace by the way? If I may ask that is..." she tried one of her most charming smiles and waited for an answer playing with a lock of her black hair.

Good evening! I see you've come back in spite of what happened this morning. I hope you won't be harassed again. What brings you to Solace by the way? If I may ask that is..."

Jorgan looked at Dlenje "How did you... oh that's right, you were here this morning talking to the elven guy huh? I'm sorry. I'm bad with faces."

Jorgan offered her a chair at the table he had come to.

"I'm looking for my brother, Duncan. But nobody around here has seen him. He's tall, like me, but a hair shorter, about seven foot three or so."

Jorgan adjusted his sword at his hip unconsciously, making sure it could be easily drawn. "I've been traveling for a while looking for him. I lost track of him in the old city section of Palanthas. I haven't heard anything of him in almost a year now. But I've been traveling the continent as a sword for hire the last ten years. So I just keep traveling. He'll turn up eventually. The gods only know what he's up to now."

Jorgan stopped, and cocked his head to one side.

"I'm sorry, where are my manners? I've started to talk your ear off and haven't even introduced myself! I'm Jorgan. Jorgan Courtland. What's your name ma'am?" he said, extending his hand palm up in greeting to show he was unarmed. The school year has just begun and already the shootings have started. Jorgan looked at Dlenje "How did you... oh that's right, you were here this morning talking to the elven guy huh? I'm sorry. I'm bad with faces."

Dlenje raised a brow.
"I even talked to you and half-elves are not so common that they can be so easily forgotten. So you were not blinded by my beauty. I guess I'll have to live with that" She chuckled and took a sip of her ale.

"I'm sorry to hear that you've lost trace of him. But can't it be that he doesn't wish to be found? I mean, it should be quite easy to find someone so tall. People always remember guys who look unusual... Anyway you sound like a man that have been travelling a lot. Have you ever met a red dragon and a black robed mage together?"

Erin Shimmer walked through Solace, and entered the inn. She savoured the tangy smell of potatoes, and the beautiful Vallenwoods. She looked through the inn, and her eyes rested on th Vallenwood walls. This tree was the one Raistlin Majere had been buried under. Interesting. Sh idly wondered if her younger sister, Adrien, had ever considered attacking the tree with an axe. She definitely hated Raistlin enough.

Event hough she had a good reason, he had damned her to an eternal life and killed her sister, it still was unusual in Erin's eyes. She mused over her family, Her oldest sister Dryana, then the oldest brother Gareth, then came the next brother, Kalen, and then her, and Adrien, and Nyala. (nEE AH LAH) Nyala. She had died in the War of the Lance, and she knew how much Adrien missed her sister. erin missed Naana, their half-sister, (same mother), and hell, she even missed Naana's half-sister (same father as Naana) Burgandy. She gave a laugh to herself.

She knew how much Adrien loathed Burgandy. After all, the woman had tried to kill her. Twice. She went up to the bar, and cheerfully put two steel on thhe top. "A room for the night please," she slapped another steel on the counter, "and a plate of spiced potatoes and ale." she smiled, and sat at the bar.Queen Catherine has finished the War in Enroth, and has reurned to her father's kingdom, Erathia and found it in turmoil. OOC: …Kalia read Angel’s post about Raistlin…

...The Qualinesti elf, Araydiel watched the room with an easy smile as he rested his chin on his palm and nursed his tea with the other hand while listening intently to the Solace Militia Captain.

His clear jade eyes caught the sight of the half-elf Dlenje he had med the day before and noticed she was with the towering form of the bladesman that had been in the tavern this same morning.

The elf started a little as he noticed a figure enter the Inn, his keen elf vision catching eyes of gold as she made her way to the towering human warrior. He angled his head to the side and studied the figure intently for a moment, his eyes somewhat narrowing in his shrewd study of the woman…

* * *

The hobgoblin captain backhanded one of his smaller goblish brethren with a rusty gauntlet, relishing in the feeling of power it gave him over the smaller groveling wretch. He looked to the lights of the houses of Solace with his slitted yellow eyes and imagined himself looting and pillaging the village.

A toothy smile spread across his lips and he booted the sniveling goblin on the ground with a hob-nailed boot, hearing a rib crack and the goblins whimpers increase as it tried to please its commander.

The goblin raised it’s blood spattered gauntlet and waved forward his troops, who began to move en masse towards the sleepy village, slinking and sliding their way as quietly as possible through the darkened underbrush, their eyes seeing clearly in the darkness.

In the town of Solace, horse skittered nervously and the few animals in town shifted and tried to move away from the scent of goblin as they came close. A dog barking could be heard but stopped suddenly and without whimper as a goblin spear pierced its throat, whistling in through the darkness…

…The first of the goblins wearing only a grimy loincloth of human-skun leather, their mottled green skin blackened with charcoal and mud wound their way up the stairs of the Vallenwood tree, while others of their kind scaled the rope that was used as part of the counterweight system for kitchen supplies or climbed the gnarled trunk of the ancient Vallenwood. In their three-fingered, clawed hands or clutched in between their filed crooked teeth were poorly made goblin blades, laid to rest in stagnant pools of brackish filth for days before the attack.

In other areas of the famed town, goblins waited in the shadows, their yellow eyes watching and waiting for the initial shriek of their hobgoblin leaders to start the slaughter. Their misshapen goblin bodies waited in the narrows between buildings or clung to the roofs of houses and waited with baited breath.

At the Inn of the Last Home, the first of the goblins nudged open the trapdoor in the kitchen and peered through the narrow gap at the staff within. The smell of cooking food assailed the goblin’s flared nostrils and caused the green creature to drool incessantly with greed. As the cook passed and turned to ladle a savory sauce over the roasting side of beef, the goblin sprang, shrieking its battle cry and dashed the few steps across the wooden floor to leap upon the chest of the terrified cook, the goblins weight and momentum bearing her to the ground as it’s notched blade struck home over and over again.

In the darkness of Solace the goblins raised their voices in battle cries and rushed to spill the blood of the citizens of Solace…

"Mother!?" The woman whispered, surprised to find Kalia here. "What are you doing here?" She asked.

"No time for questions Wylin dear... We havesome very unwanted company..." Kalia said and pushed her hood away from her face.

"Who knows... maybe one day you'll be lucky. And don't worry about me, I can take care of myself and Jorgan is a kind man, when he's not attacked by drunk soldiers"

She shook her head. Sholan had to be careful if he didn't want to get into trouble. She sat down and waited to be introduced to Jorgan's friend. She wondered who the woman was. There was something about her... Maybe I've seen her before... She looks familiar

She didn't ponder on the question very long as her keen nostrils caught an unwelcome scent... Goblins? What are goblins doing here?
Wondering she slipped to the door, her body tense like a bowstring, and looked into the night. She regretted to have left her bow in her house. The only weapon she had was a dagger.

Then she saw them.

During the long time where the gods where forced to leave this world... Kalia busied herself with the arts of the sword and force rather than the more arcane arts.. she still had such at her disposal now with the return of the Gods, but she rarely relied on them now.

Three steel throwing knives appeared from some hidden pocket, and she threw them in quick succession, each finding and mortally wounding a goblin.

The younger elven woman, Wylin had her back to the man with the dark hair, covering each other. Wylin had a dagger in her hand... and in the flash-fury of her movements, a black scar could be seen on her sternum when the silk of her tunic shifted. Using a pair of Sai, the dark haired man was quickly disabling any goblin that came his way, though he stayed protectively close to Wylin.

"Dlenje, this is Kalia, Kalia, this Dlenje. I've trusted my life to Kalia more than once, so don't wory about her Dlenje, she can handle herself." he said as he went to the front door. Down on the street he saws goblins running amok, killing anything that lived and they were begining to set fires. A smal group of goblins was coming up the stairway towards him. The leader carried a rusty short sword and wore mottled scraps of leather armor, undoubtedly collected from those it had killed.

With a lightning fast swing, the leader lost all of his bodily parts above the shoulders, and Jorgan kicked the body back into the group, sending them sprawling back down the stairs. With a light punt he sent the dead leaders head down after them.

"It'll take more than that!" he yelled, raising his sword into the air. More goblins were coming his way towards the stairs. Dlenje was not a warrior, she wasn't really skilled with any weapon and hated to fight, but she could defend herself if needed.
After a second of hesitation, she barricated behind a table and collected what missiles she could find: glasses, plates, etc... She couldn't wield a sword, but her aim didn't fail anything.

When the goblins poured into the inn, furiously she started threwing things at them aiming for the spot between their eyes. She was quite impressed by her results. A few of the foul creatures dropped to the floor striken by her missiles, while some others tried to shield their head with their arms and were an easy prey for the rest of the defenders.

OOC: Is Jorgan superman or what? How can he stop all the goblins alone?! He's got only two hands as far as I know ;)

two hands... and when the fight gets tough, he 's got two swords. He's on the staircase, stopping/killing anything that comes up. It's a strategic stronghold, as it's a confined and elevated area, there's only so much that can get to him at a time, and it's not too much he can handle. He thinks like a stratigest. Besides, if you wanna know what he's capable of, read the entire Thicker Than Blood thread from the begining.

*edit* Jorgan is a 1st ed. D&D character, 8th lvl fighter, 7thlvl theif, 5th lvl Acrobat, with psi abilities. In DL i don't use the psi cause it's unfair, and don't have him do much theivery. Acrobatics never come into play unless he jumps off a roof or something. The school year has just begun and already the shootings have started. Who would have thought the 3 Rs would be reading, writing, and reloading? Stay in school, but out of the line of fire.

OOC: I've read it all, don't worry ;) And I didn't specify that the goblins were coming from the front door, so I guess I don't need to change my post. Otherwise Dlenje will just sit and watch the others fight :D She can be the cheerleader. Sorry, I'm in a funny mood today.

…The goblins pressed their advantage, seeing easily in the night where most citizens of Solace could not. They raced amongst the buildings slashing and burning, shrieking gleefully as a long held dream of the goblin tribes was at long last being fulfilled.

Out of the darkness of the west road came the sound of running and the rattle of armor as a brigade of twelve figures, moved from the darkness, scattering the rampaging goblins before them. The moonlight glinted off the bronzed armor and scales the color of polished brass as the bozak draconians made their way to the foot of the steps that lead to the Inn of the Last Home.

With a roar, the draconian rushed the stairs, their serrated blades of dark steel waving before them as they charged up the steps, their clawed feet carving into the wooden steps and propelling their thick bodies faster through the night as the sought for the entry to the inn only to find it blocked by a single warrior.

With a crash, the door to the kitchen bursts open and a handful of goblins, slimy with mud and charcoal on their bodies rush into the room brandishing their primitive goblin blades as they rush the common room patrons…

* * *

…The Qualinesti elf Araydiel watched the proceeding with widened green eyes and tapped the militia commander Kelso on his arm, pointing at the stairs that led to the bedrooms.

“We should get the common folk and those who have no weapons out of harm’s way Master Kelso, but we need someone to guard the top of the stairs.” He shouted over the noise as he began waving farmers and merchants up the stairs to the relative safety of the rooms above. Without waiting the elf nimbly rushed up the stairs, taking them two at a time…

OOC: Nice Arandur, i like this...

With a roar, the draconian rushed the stairs, their serrated blades of dark steel waving before them as they charged up the steps, their clawed feet carving into the wooden steps and propelling their thick bodies faster through the night as the sought for the entry to the inn only to find it blocked by a single warrior.

Jorgan reached across his shoulder and drew his longsword into his other hand. Taking a very serious fighting stance, Jorgan braced himself for the defense of countless innocent lives. He clearly had two advantages to the fight. One, he had an elevation advantage, as most of his sword swings came at head level to the advancing Draconians, and two, the stairs were only wide enough for two to fight side by side.

As the Draconians reached him, Jorgan attacked full force. One fell at the first swing of his longsword, his head falling to the ground below. His body slumped to the stairs, hindering the others. Jorgan retreated a step or two with each swing and parry, trying desperately to hold off eleven trained Draconians all thirsty for blood.

Another fell to his deft blade, dark black (is it black? i don't remember) blood spraying from it's severed jugular. Jorgan kicked a third into the group, knocking them back, but the strength of the creatures was too overwhelming and they surged forward again, serrated swords whistling through the air wildly. The school year has just begun and already the shootings have started. Who would have thought the 3 Rs would be reading, writing, and reloading? Stay in school, but out of the line of fire.

IC; Erin smiled. "Haven't had enough yet?" she swung her sword, and a goblin lost it's head. Another died f a thrust through the stomach. Goblins were piling up. She swung her light, steel sword, ad another goblin fell. She faced a draconian, and swung. It died, but her weapon suddenly shattered in the stone. "$hit!!" she yelled, and pulled out her next weapon: a dai-katana.

Another draconian lost a limb in time for a goblin to lose it's head. Her sword was wet with goblin blood. She had an idea. "We can block the doors with some tables, and that will stem the flow. Dlenje, help me wth this." she ranover to a table, and heaving and panting, pushed it against the doors. There was pounding on the other side, and the table wobbled, but they weren't getting in. The stream from the trapdoor was still constant, and she turned in time to save herself from decapitation. "Oh yeah, that's something I'm good at... Let me help you..."
Dlenje ran over to Erin and helped her push more tables against the backdoor.
"Well, I guess we are safe for the time being. Maybe we should make sure that Jorgan is ok. He's taking care of the rest of the goblin all alone. Someone should help him, I guess. Not me though. I'll just get him killed" she said with a grin on her lips.

IC: "I'll go." she said, and ran to the back. A goblin about to atempt to part Jorgan's head from his body lost it's own head. Suddenly a familiar feeling swept over her. She hadn't felt it in a very long time. "Oh gods, help me!" she said feverently, as the dragonfear swept over her. "Dlenje! Dragons!!" she yelled, continuing to hack up goblins. "Jorgan, is it? We need to put something over the trapdoor. If nothing else it'll stop them, but if they have a dragon, then its limited how much we can do." OOC: I think there has been some confusion and some people need to edit their posts to make sense.

First off, Jorgan is OUTSIDE, on the FRONT stairway, fighting back 10 Draconians. When you guys put up the table over the front door, you blocked his only escape.

Secondly, because Jorgan was securing the front stairway, there were no goblins or Draconians coming in the front door, just the trapdoor in the kitchen. The school year has just begun and already the shootings have started. Who would have thought the 3 Rs would be reading, writing, and reloading? Stay in school, but out of the line of fire.

…On the top of the stairs that led to the FRONT door of the Inn of the Last Home the reptilian forms of Bozak draconians moved forward again their talons raking the wood as the moved warily.

The Draconians snarled angrily, their serpent like tongues, lashing against sharp incisors as they regarded the human with narrowed dark eyes. They climbed over their fallen brethren, the bodies hardened to stone as they had died. They watched the human warily as the moved themselves into position for a second attack, the serrated blades ready to taste the blood of the defiant human…

…The last of the tables moved over the trapdoor in the KITCHEN as a reptilian hand with scales of brass lashed out in an attempt to ensnare the foot of one of the people barricading the way…

…From up the stairs, the Qualinesti and the commoners could be heard barricading the windows with beds and other furniture, and anything they could find. After a few moments, Araydiel ran to the ballistrade at the top of the stairs and looked down into the common room.

“Kelso we need a sword up here!” he cried in his elvish accent as he looked worriedly at the tavern door and then to the sounds of distress in the kitchen…

Kalia heard the glutteral snarls of the dragconians, and she joined Jorgan on the stairs... She spat something in her own language at the nearest draconian, (did I miss what kind they where?)

The dragon-man hissed in response to her insult and attacked her with renewed fury. "Pitiful excuse of a dragon... Physical evidance of Takhisis's Treachery!" She hissed, and closed her hand on a staff that appeared out of thin air.

She joined in with Jorgan in fighting them back, Wylin and Hiaku right behind her.

OOC: Kalia, I beleive Arandur sent Baaz Draconians against us... I'm to lazy to backtrack and read tonight.

BIC: Jorgan brought the blade of his sword down on a draconians head, lodging it into the creatrures skull. With a jerk, it turned to stone and pulled the longsword out of his hand. Jorgan parried a blow from another, and with a quick riposte' drove the sword into it's eye. Before Jorgan could pull the blade free, it too turned to stone, trapping his other sword.

Without his prefered weapons, he was left with one choice. Reaching behind his back he flicked the harness free and drew his (almost comedicly oversized... think FF7 Cloud) two-handed bastard sword. It's green blade winked eerily in the night, casting a faint glow off of the metal objects in the area.

With a home run slugger swing, Jorgan sent the blade slicing through bronze armor, the Draconian within, and out the other side in one clean pass. As the two halves of the dead Draconian solidified Jorgan took a deep breathe.

Dlenje ran back and forth without really knowing what to do. She felt stupid for not being able to fight and help the other people, but she hated to kill and would rather help the wounded than wield a sword or any other weapon.

I do hope this will soon be over. I can't take all this meaningless violence she thought shaking her head and trying to find something she could help with.

IC: Erin yelled a warning as the front door, table and all, crashed open. Suddenly, the onslaught in the kitchen was all. The Bozak's by the door ran, and she heard them going down the stairs. She looked out. A small white dragon circled over, and more draconians jumped off, landing on the tree branches and the roof. Erin remembered this tactic from the war of the lance, and cursed.

Suddenly, the one thing she had feared happened. The dragon landed on the ground, and stuck it's head into the inn. Erin panicked, as the leathery head inhaled.............

And a blast of frigid air swept into the inn, just in time for her to duck behind a table.

The draconians surged forward once again with a vigor that was strangely renewed they surged forward with a roar, calling for the Dark Queen's favor in their bastardized version of the Draconic tongue.

In the town of Solace, houses burned and people were dying as the goblins pursued their agenda with a relentless vigor born of generations of scheming to attack this settlement. Their goblin shouts and frenzied war cries encouraged by their hobgoblin masters.

The first of a half dozen dark shapes swept across the red sphere of Lunitari, the moons red like giving their green scales an eerie prophetic glow, as if they were bathed in blood. As the first of the figures landed amongst the buildings in Solace, the goblin attacked scattered as the weak-willed creatures ran shrieking from their dread serpentine forms.

As Karissa ran up the stairs, Aradiel simply pointed to one of the doors with a finely manicured elvish hand. As she turned her head the elf snaked forward and looped a throng of leather around her neck, pressing a knee into the middle of her back.

"If I can’t kill the Dragon Majere, then Mother will be pleased with any Majere" he hissed, his once handsome features contorted into something horrid with his sheer rage. As he tried to choke the life out of the young woman, two farmers ran down the stairs from the confines of the upstairs rooms, their forms twisting and contorting as they sprang down the stairs and into the main room, their silver scales gleaming wetly in the light of the common room and their wickedly barbed sword glinting evilly in the light...
