-Before the return-
Dark clouds rolled over the small island of the Marduk, a down pour seemed to be threatening to bombard the day's fesitivities. Small bolts of lightening danced on a sky painted so grey one would think a cleric of Tahkisis had shrouded Krynn with one of thier robes. A small stone deis stood with the image of a woman clad in tight white robes carved into it.The statue's face was sullen, almost saddened as she looked out toward the sea. The first drop of rain fell right onto the statues cheek, making her look like she was crying. More drops of rain began to fall as a group of blue skinned women walked up to the small Deis.
"Ladies.." Said one of the women, dressed in a gold trimmed robe that covered her entire body. "The time of the festival is nigh.. The weather indicates the goddesses of magic are still present, even if thier eyes are not.. It is time for us to call upon the more barbaric of our people.. the Enki.. so we may keep this race alive." The time of the year matched the night of the eye festival that had been held before the gods' departure from Krynn.
"We of the Marduk have fought to maintain our abilities, and current stature in the eye of our Goddess the great platinum Dragon and her lover Michikale. We, the remnents of the falled race known as the Irda, come to this place to use the last of our power to open the portal between this island and the island of our barbaric counterparts, the Tribe of Enki."
Chieftan Varan spun as she re-enacted the ancient ritual of the portal opening. The lightning shot down from the heavens, striking the stone maiden on the her head. Her eyes suddenly glowed with a yellow power, and from her mouth shot a beam of blue light. THe space in front of her distorted and a small black hole began to open. She turned her head, motioning to two of her guards.
"Bring the young men who are old enough to travel." She said, her eyes viewing them with scorn and disgust. The young boys screamed and whined for thier mothers, and the women just looked on, stoic as ever.
"You must travel to the isle of your elders. We have raised you against thier barbaric ways... may you teach our ways to your people." She shook her head. Thus it had been spoken for thousands of years, and they had never listened. Never heeded thier word.
A shriek sounded from the audience.
"They come through!" Varan pivoted, glancing at the voice. Men, giant and blue skinned came through the portal bearing weapons of steel. Bows and arrows suddenly pommeled the Earth the peaceful Marduk had tread upon.
"Enki!" She shouted. Men.. Barbaric men.. She closed her eyes, feeling for the power of the earth. She suddenly let lose a torrent of fire from her fingertips, scorching several of the Enki, but unfortunatl taking out some of her allies in the process. As a rule the Marduk didn't use weaopons. They were Barbaric, used only by the Enki Tribe. They had brought about the ruin of the Marduk.. That was why they had been exiled.
enki continued to pour through the rappidly growing portal. Years and Years of planning had gone into this plan, that much was obvious. Sorceressess of the Marduk were falling faster then a dead seagul. Varan, shouting some orders ran for the boats.. It was thier only defense. She only hoped some of the sorceresses would follow her. Grabbing her stick like weapon, her Ioree, She ran for the boats that were always at the ready.

fifteen of the women had made it to the boats as they launched, among them her favored seer, Gregorian, and the keeper of records Narissa. They shoved off, making as god a time as possible. They hadn't been off of thier island in thousands of years, and now it was gone all to fast. About four days into thier journey gregorian had a vision. A Vision of a yellow (I can't remember what color Mina's eyes were..) eyed girl riding atop an evil looking steed, a minotaur to her left. She had a dark shadow looming over her, five heads snaked around her body, as if keeping her in a cocoon.
"It is the evil one." Gregorian blinked, trying to clear her head. "Something is happening to the world of Krynn." three days later they reached land. A port town known as Abileen. Voran glanced to Narissa, and then to the rest of the girls.
"We are stuck on this continent for the time being.. We must find out what Gregorian's vision was about.. Return to me in four moon cycles from now. Then we will discuss what to do about the Enki..

-Four months later- (after WOS)
Varan sighed as she stood at the counter of her make shift Inn and Tavern. She couldn't believe the information that had been coming through. The eyes of the three goddesses had returned only a short time ago, and even then two of the Krynish constelations had not re-appeared. She had heard many reports as to what had happened, and some say the dark goddess Tiamat had fallen. along with thier goddess the platinum Dragon.. She sighed, fearing for the worst. The Marduk had never felt thier magical power fade, and she was suprised to find that the rest of Krynn had been affected. The Marduk drew thier power from the elements, something that was termed wilder magic. While the Goddesses were still worshiped individually, they were not the source of the Marduk power. She turned in page in the book she had rented from a small library that was down the street. She stopped, and turned to look at herself in the mirror that hung over the money box.
at the age of three hundred, she looked no more than thirty two, and was the youngest Marduk Chieftan to date. She had cast a glamour upon herself with the help of a sorcerer of the heart and one of his relics. She had aided him as best she could, but even wilder magic could only go so far. She had long brown hair, and her soft nose. Her skin was the only thing the glamour covered, and even that was to turn her into a tanned human. Her ears were still abnormally pointed, but she passed it off as being half elven. She glanced to the now deserted inn and waited. Peak time was just around the corner, and she had to be ready with food.
Imagine, she, a chieftan, cooking for others! The others had come and gone, and brought news of the return of the goddesses to krynn. She had sent them all on recruitment missions to raise help and return to take back thier isle. She knew the Enki would not be satisfied with just thier isle. Reports of blue skinned men had been surfacing for the past few weeks, and from what she heard they sounded like scouts. She supposed it was possible they were looking for her, but she doubted it. It was time to try recruiting... She sat, and waited patiently for patrons to start arriving. There were a few regulars she was very familiar with. Prehaps she would explain her plight to them. . .

He sat in a giant castle, that seemed to raise itself out of the very beach itself. He glanced out over the ocean, holding a cup of wine in one hand, and held onto the chieftan's chair with the other. He was garbed in the velvet robes of the Marduk Chieftan, his subjects all on one knee, nude before him. He motioned to one of the Marduk women. She stood up, wobbiling on her feet. When she was within distance he struck her across the face.
"how dare you get up in my presence." He murmered. She got back down to one knee, but it was to late. He motioned to two of his Enki Guards and made a cuting motion with his index finger across his throat. They nodded, and quickly slit the woman's throat, non-chalantly dropping her body to the ground. He glanced up to all the Marduk women seated before him.
"If any of you dare to raise ANYTHING to me... You will end up like her." He smiled. He had already turned his sites to the Ansalon border. War was about to break out on Krynn, and this time there was no Paladine to get in his way..

OOC: I know it's long, But I thought it sounded like a fun plan. I was thinking we could post both the Enki tribe and the Marduk tribe.. . .
I'm also going to try an expiriment.. I'm going to paste this on the RPGC board to and see how radically diffrent the story lines become :) I'm thinking abileen is off of the Blood sea of Istar. It's a small town, not known for anything other than it's fine liquor :)

OOC: Here's my new char.
Name: Sorin Geledar
race: subrace of shapeshifter
gender: Female
Eyes: gray
Hair: black
skin: fair
Alignment: Neutral/good chaotic
Background: She's a shapeshifter, but she's one of the shapeshifter's who was cursed by Takhisis that everytime she took enough damage from a battle, that she would turn into a statue of a gargoyle, and only become back to her normal form during the day, for a month.

I can't think of a good way for her to meet the Marduk, so you got any ideas?

OOC: Don't mind if i join do you?

Jesselle stepped smoothly into the tavern, the hem of her robes rustling softly. There was certainly a crowd tonight, as wonderful music was being played on stage. Her hands strayed ever so closely to the scabbard on her left side strapped just beneath the ebony velvet robes she had been wearing for these last few days. She wasn't being too careful to be prudent about her life, if she was a fugitive. These last few days had been rough on her, as she straggled over stick and stones to escape her silent assassin. The scratches and tears on her robes, were proofs of such. Why were they after her, she had asked herself hundereds of time. Now as she advanced furthe rinto the tavern, she believe she was soon going to find out.

Her slender fingers pulled the hood down to hidethe countenance of her face, to hide the long red hair that threatened to escaped from its tentative bondage.

The passionate strokes the musician made on the violin with his long bow, elevated the temperature in the room, and she could feel herself gradually slipping into the music, to its rhythm and its haunting tune.
She almost didn't mind the reeking smell of the damn drunks, and the whores' stale breath.

Yet the moment her eyes made contact with the outlandish looking brunette behind the counter, she immediately snapped back into reality to the unpleasant proximity of the people around her.

But she could feel her adrenaline pumping. This was the woman she was looking for, the same height the same description. Her heart quickened in excitement.
This was the women who was suppose to help her, to figure out why in Takhisis's mind were these blasted brutes after her.
But she couldn't draw attention on herself yet. SHe had to wait and bide her time until the woman was alone, lest danger would present himself to both her and the woman.

OOC: Welcome everyone. Angel, just walk her in to the inn? :) She will eventually get to everyone...

Varan met the woman's eyes iwth a gaze of indiffrence. This woman.. she felt a strange aura from her.. Walking over she looked down.
"What can I get you?" She asked, her voice slightly accented.

OOC: Welcome to the RPGC, erylaen! always nice to see a new face around here :):D

BIC: Sorina Geledar slowly walked along the winding road towards the town, looking for an inn to spend the night in. She was in her faorite form, a white cat with one black ear. It had long, luxurious persian fur, and china blue eyes, with a tiny gold stud through it's one white ear, hardly noticeable. She trotted along, towards the town, and entered. The little white cat looked slightly bedraggled, having walked along the muddy road for a while. She stopped in front of an inn, and shifted to her natural form, a curly haired woman with slightly gray-ish skin and light purple eyes. She had multiple little hoops and various studs all over her ears, and a tiny silver stud on the right side of her nose.

She entered the inn, and went up to the golden eyed woman at the counter, and pulled out her money bag. "How much for one night, and food, drink?" she said, in a heavily accented voice. I was obvious that Common was not her native tongue,and that she was not accustomed to using it.

OOC: Thanks angel for th welcoming.....i admit, i'm slightly confused about the line of the plot now...??

krackah
09/29/2003 1:26 PM

OOC: Welcome erylyn :) (Sp?) Don;t be confused. :) Confusions bad. Basically Varan is tryign to recruit people to go back and help her destroy the Enki. . Meanwhile the Enki are slowly invading Ansalon, Needless to say the sorceress as well as anyone she's tied up with are going to get sweapt away in the tides of war.

Bubbles rose on thes urrface of the water as the blue skinned man tip toed across the shallow pond. His eyes rested on the small hamlet infront of him. He motioned to the rest his entorauge, a group of about athousand men. Easily enough to take over the small town. They slowly crept up to the outskirts of the village, waiting forn ight fall.

Varan sighed as she glanced to the newcomer. None of her regulars were showing. She supposed that she coudl befriend some of the new comers, but she was less than thrilled at that prospect,. Magic was not trusted, especially magic not granted by the goddessess of magic. (although the rest of Kryhn was under the impresison that they were gods and goddessess)
She glanced to the newcomer again, this time witha slight smile.
"Six Co-" She stopped dead in her tracks at the streak of blue that passed her inn. Her breath began to came in heaves instead of its normal flow.
Enki.
"E-excuse me for a second." She said, stepping outside.
She sniffed the air. Amongst the normal smells of horse manure and the village food, there was a slight foul smell that wafted through the air.
She ran inside, a worried look on her face, returning to the shape shifter.
"Madame I wouldn't advise staying her tonight. ." A loud thud sounded form outside, followed my screams. Her eyes widened.
"Everyone. We have to get out of her.." She looked aorund the the wildly busy in. OHw was she supposed to help these people?
"Quickly, out the back. If we are to have a chance to survive we must escape."

erylaen
09/29/2003 4:10 PM

OOC: No, I mean there's two conflictions invovling you at the same time...you are waiting on me and then agnel comes to get waited by you so i wasnt' really sure which way it was suppopse to go...if i make any sense at all... but here goes..

BIC: Jesselle was juggled and pushed around as the mob tried to get past her to escape through the only other exit, the wooden double door in the back kitchen of the inn.
From the window, a swish of one single arrow flew past her and struck a man dead centered in his chest. What made it worse than one simple casualty was that the man was twice the size of her and his death meant to only hinder the path further for any other people to get out. His large body soon disappeared under the mass of human hysteria.

The sword sprang readily into her hand and that managed to give her enough time move from the most concentrated par tof the area. She eyes trained on the tan woman who was trying to help the people get out. She forced her way through the crowd, breathing harshly although she wondered how she could breath at all. The smell of human's fear and sweat was starting to clamp down her.
As she begain to follow her target, she noticed a ring studded woman with her.

OOC: Im sorry :) I'm an airhead. You make alot of sense. Dont put yerself down.. anyhoo here it goes!

IC: Varan watched the mob pass, and saw the arrow strike the man. She ran to the front of the resturaunte to face the attackers.
"Those of the Enki tribe be warned... You are not invinted." She closed her eyes taking a deep breath. If she was to die here she woudl take the entire tribe with her. She watched as the last person escaped.
She placed her hands on the ground. Her red eyes flashed with power. Fire began to bubble from her fingertips, forming a small ball. She tossed this ball at the wooden floor of the inn.. Her inn and sighed. Dashign past the counter she picked up her lifes savings and the few belongings she always had at the ready.
She dashed around back, looking for more of the enki.
One of the blue skinned barbarian's appeared before her, and raised his hatchet to strike at her. Summong flame of the burning building she engulfed him in an inferno. Burntt flesh began to permate the air. She quickly glanced around, looking for anymore people she could help. She saw the woman she had first intended to wait upon, and glanced around looking for the ring studded woman.

OOC: Krackah, um, you might want to work on paragraphs.

IC: Sorina whirled around. What the hell was going on? There were blue skinned men that the woman behind the bar was fighting with. Soon she had killed them all. She turned to the woman. "Can you get me a room for the night, or are you still busy killing people?" she asked lightly.

10/01/2003 2:10 PM

Jesselle had her sword drawn out, prepped up and ready, yet she no chance of using it. The golden eye woman had somehow vanquished most of the brutes with a wave of her hand, leaving no room for any demonstration on her part of her swordmanship.

But as she gavea quick glance out the window, she saw more of the blue skinned barbarians lurking outside, and about to any minutenow, burst in.
She hefted her sword in the air, keeping it handy, just as a precaution.

From across the room, the golden eye woman looked pale and drawn. Jesselel asuume her energy was depleted after spending mucch of it on engulfing her enemies into cinders. There was no doubt in her mind that she needed help.
Almost tripping over a broken stool, she leapt forward to aid her.

10/01/2003 2:27 PM

Varan looked the Jesselle and smiled. Her skin was not only pale, but since her magic was very depleted her skin color had begin to turn back to it's blue color.
"Thank you miss." She said smiling. She had to rest. But she couldn't. . not knowing the Enki had landed on the main land. She looked to the other woman.
"My dear, unless you would like to sleep in a heap of ashes, this room is all I can offer you." She looked back to the other woman.
"Now my dear, is there anything I can get you?" She smiled.

BIC: Sorina smiled. "I'm sorry, i've been having troubles with the black knights these past few weeks, and i'm a bit on edge." She raised an eyebrow, the one with the tiny hoop in it, at the words ".......ash heap......"

She frowned. "Why would it be an ash heap. It seems to be in good condition at the moment."

She frowned. "Why would it be an ash heap. It seems to be in good condition at the moment."

Her were drawn together, as she gave a quick worried glance at the window. They were in danger and the women werestill chit chatting.
"We must leave," Jesselle snapped, her sword inadvertantly raised. "There are more of those monsters coming, and unless you have no desirre to be in a much worser state than an 'ash heap' i suggest we better run."

Varan nodded. "The woman's right. It's just.. I'm in shock.. These men.. they couldn't be here.. Shouldn't be here.. Yet they are.." She glanced to the two women.
"If we're escaping together, I should probably introduce myself. I am Varan Mi'frini, chieftan of the Marduk Sorceresses. I'll wait for your introductions until our present situation is.. safer. She turned to Jeselle.
"These monsters are the tribe of Enki. A warrior race decended from the Irda.. I thought once they captured the island of the Marduk they would be satisfied... But apparently that's not the case." She started for the door.
"We must leave at once."

erylaen
10/03/2003 11:06 AM

Jesselle nodded and strode ahead in front of them.
"Alright, after we have reach safety, i want more than that slim summary. I want to know what's really going on. I've been attacked by these brutes more than once, and to tell you the truth, it has not been pleasant."
She raisde her sword and prepared to defend the women.

"I suppose you're entitled to an explanation- Once we reach saftey. Lets go!" She said already drawing up energy. She had had enough time to recopperate. Charging out in front of the two women, she glanced in both directions, motioning for the women to follow.
"The towns out skirts are slightly to the west of here.. It shouldn't take to long to reach."

Sorina was slightly confused. Suddenly a barbarian burst through the door, followed by three more. One of them grabbed her, and with a leer tried to drag her away. She gave an icy glare, and turned into a albino pather, one of her favorite forms. It sprang through the air and finished off two barbarians, and the other two headed towards the innkeep and Jesselle......

10/05/2003 5:49 PM

The woman's a shapeshifter, Jesse realized as she saw Sorina transformed into a panther and took down two of the monster.s

Another two came directly their way.
"Wathc out!" Jesselle cried, shoving the innkeeper away. She parried a thrust aimed at her head abnd with a clean stroke, she decapitated the brute's head.

He body stood still for a minuteas his head rolled on the floor. and then it fell with a heavy thump on the ground.
A minute amount of blood spattered on her robe, but she ignored its foul stench and turned towards another incoming assailant.

It took her less than a minute to disarm him and another to knock him unconscious with the flat side of her sword.
"Let's go, let's go," Jesselle shouted to Varan and the panther.

10/06/2003 2:19 AM

Varan nodded to the woman charging outside.
"Quite militant." She tought to herself. Two more barbarians flew at them from the sides. Without a second thought white hot flame flew from the burning buildings and landed ontop of one of them. She charged full speed toward the edge of the forest, praying that the Enki hadn't made it that far.
More Barbarian's began to file into the small village. Her eyes widened. She glanced back to the shapeshifter.
"No chance you can change into a dragon and get us out of here is there?" She muttered, glancing around.
Mor Enki were on thier way, and they were mere feet from the forest.
"There's a network of cavesin the forest. We should be able to hide there momentarily. ." Again she prayed to the platinum goddess that all would be okay.
"The village is done for.." She muttered.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Enki Emporer hovered over the small village on a green sea dragon. At least they had been useful for somethign.
He looked to the mayor who was being held by a group of his soldiers.
"Your village now belongs to the Enki." He muttered. Two of the soldiers were woman, thier eyes blue and yellow.
:Kill him and hang his head on the post for the Marduk Chieftan to see."
The two women crincged as lightning fell from the sky, electricuting the poor mayor. Two of the Enki chopped of the mayors head.
"You now belong to me.." THe emporer smiled.
Sorina snarled to Varan "I can't become a dragon: the scope of being such a creature would overwhelm me, and I would lose control. I can become something to help speed us up." she transformed again, and became a tirigrian, a tiger like creature that served as transportation in the underworld. A saddle was on her back. She kne wshe could make it through the forest swiftly, she just had to reach it. "Get on!!" she snarled.
Keldin_Redbeard
10/07/2003 10:04 AM
The dwarf was a couple of hundred feet into the forest, he was reaching down and plucking what looked like a dagger out of a dead body. He heard sounds coming from the village ahead, not pleasant sounds either, he feared. He wiped the blood off the blade onto the ground, put his dagger in its sheath on his belt. Then he did the same with his duel bladed battleaxe and put it in its sheath on his back. He stood there in amazement, never seeing this type of ‘barbarian’ – the only word that he knew to describe these guys – before. He was wearing a blue shirt with long sleeves, green breeches and deer hide boots. He picked up his pack from the ground, another dagger, and kicked at the two bodies as if to make sure they were dead.
Startled, Keldin turned around. He heard a noise, “Sounds like a large animal.” He thought to himself trying to see through the trees. Then something… through the trees… ”What…is that?” he said quietly. It looked like a cat of some sort… with a saddle… and a rider. Keldin pulled his axe, not planning to attack unless he absolutely had to. He stood his ground waiting for them to approach.
Varan rolled her eyes at the shape shifter's reaction to her sarcasm, but made no comment one way or the other. Hopping on, she looked to the warrior... "You coming?"
Once they were on thier way into the forest, she leaned down to speak to the shape shifter.
"There's someone up ahead.. be on your guard." Waiting for the shifter to stop, she hopped off and looked to the dwarven man.
"Sir, you're in grave danger here.. You need to escape at once."
erylaen
10/07/2003 3:07 PM
"Talk about a mere dwarf needing to escape," Jesselle added sarcastically, "wer'e the ones they're after."
She groan from the foul smell the sword emit. She dampened a cloth with water from her skin and tried to scrub away the splotches of blood made visibly on her cloak.
"Now if i can just get this damn stain off," she muttered, irked.
Behind them, smoke rose from the village...
Sorina took off through the forest starting slowly, and approached the dwarf. "If your smart, you'll run for it." she said to the dwarf, in dwarven. "You getting on?"
Keldin_Redbeard
10/07/2003 7:05 PM
The dwarf Keldin regarded them in amazement. What the hell? A talking cat, grave danger, run for it? Keldin was thinking these things to himself but he had to ask, knowing that he would probably regret it.
He still kept his axe at the ready for fear of not knowing what is happening. “What’s goin’ on? Are ye needin’ help? What can I be doin’ to help ye?” Keldin asked suspiciously and concerned at the same time.
She said "are you getting on?" He didn't know if he was comfortable with that. Should he trust perfect strangers? It seemed like someone was after them, perhaps some of the 'barbarians' that he had faced. What if they had done something bad? But the noise from the village sounded like they were gettin attacked. It's all happening to fast for Keldin's dwarven brain."Oh, what the heck" he said to himself. "You only live once." He said as he jumped on the large cat.
10/08/2003 7:25 AM
IC: Sorina trembled slightly when the dwarf got on. Then her cat muscles readjusted, and she sprang foward. She was running very fast now, she wasn't sure how fast. Then she saw a knot of barbarians ahead in the forest. No point in bothering with them now. They began to gabble as she raced towards them. Suddenly she shunted sideways, up a tree. She raced along, tree trunk to tree trunk, and soon, she knew, they would be clear of the forest.
Sorina trembled slightly when the dwarf got on. Then her cat muscles readjusted, and she sprang foward. She was running very fast now, she wasn't sure how fast.
"Whoooooooa!" Keldin yelled, startled at how fast they gained speed when they took off. He grabbed ahold of anything he could to hold on, he had to admit he was a little afraid of falling off the great cat - JUST A LITTLE -. "Reorx's beard, this is the way to travel!"
hen she saw a knot of barbarians ahead in the forest. No point in bothering with them now. They began to gabble as she raced towards them. Suddenly she shunted sideways, up a tree. She raced along, tree trunk to tree trunk, and soon, she knew, they would be clear of the forest.
"Hey," Keldin said, there are some of those barbarians, lets get 'em.... Hey, why are ye passin' them? When we're gettin' to a safer spot, I'd be likin' a good explaination of what is goin' on here." Keldin said as he was holding on tight while they were going from tree to tree.
Sorina snarled back to the dwarf "If the only way you believe in traveling now is on my back, then I pray I will never see you again."
"We're heading towards some caves in the forest. And there's no time to bother. Where there's barbarians, there's more barbarians." She needed to check her bearings, and with a leap, topped a tree, and peered around. She could see the rock face jutting out of the thick forest.
She went back down, and slowed slightly, but still going at a good pace. She snarled what would have been a gasp for a human. A large unit of barbarian was a few feet in away, and hadn't seen them. She returned to the tree tops, and went over the tops of trees, instead of on the trunks. The wind was whistling in her ears, as she ran. Suddenly an arrow whistled through the air, and landed on her left side. She growled with pain, and with a final large leap, landed on a rock's top. She lay down. The thick forest surrounded them, but she saw smoke and the remains of the town a ways away. A little ways away were the caves, and out of the bottom of the rock, a shallow creek flowed. She flopped herself down in the shade of an unusually large tree, and turned her attention to the arrow.........
Varan shrieked as the cat/shapeshifter climbed up the tree. Her heart had skipped ten beats, and she was convinced she had lost at least 3/4ths of her life to fright.
She let ot a long breath.
"Those Barbarians are not the like you'd like to mess with." She whispered. Glancing back to Elrynn she smirked.
"What a shame. We'll have to buy you a new one. What is that horrid smell?" She asked, eying the womans sword suspiciously.
OOC: uh krackah, its jesselle...but ah well if its easier for ya i'll go with elrynn...hehe
Varan shrieked as the cat/shapeshifter climbed up the tree.
Another voice, so unlike her own let a out a choked shriek as the shapeshifter climbed the tree. Heights, she hated heights, in fact there was nothing more in the world she feared than heights.
The food in her stomach threatened to come up at any moment now...threatened to realease its yellow putrid matter...
and then she could no longer contain it....the stomach could no longer take it any more. SHe immediately turned her face to the side and hurled.
What is that horrid smell?" She asked, eying the womans sword suspiciously.
A guilty look spread across her face...she could feel the bitter taste still on her tongue and she smiled sheepishly, "i'm not sure you want to know..."
she followed her glance to her sword..."blame it partly onthe sword if yoiu must."
Sorina snarled back to the dwarf "If the only way you believe in traveling now is on my back, then I pray I will never see you again."
“No, no…I didn’t mean that…I…just meant…that I’ve not traveled this fast before…ever. That’s all.”
She flopped herself down in the shade of an unusually large tree, and turned her attention to the arrow.........
Keldin climbed off the cat, trying to catch his balance after the crazy ride. Admittedly glad to be back on his own feet. Keldin did not see the arrow hit the cat, but after he climbed off he noticed her messing with it. “Cat, what can I be doin’ to help ye get that arrow out. I’d like to be helpin ye, after all, ye helped me get away from those barbarians. Ye and yer friends seem to be thinkin’ that they’re pretty dangerous. After I pull that arrow out, I have some dwarf spirits we can be pourin’ on it to keep out infection. Then we can be drinkin’ some of it, just to kill the pain, of course.” Keldin smiled as he walked toward where the arrow was stuck in the cat.
BIC: The cat hissed at the dwarf slightly. "Dwarf spirits!? NO!!!!" she rose, with difficulty. "I will do better in my human form." She closed her eyes, and appeared to concentrate deeply. Then she frowned. "Damn it!! I can't change because i'm too badly wounded!!" She growled, and skittered off the rock, and towards the hole.
She heard some war-yells by the barbarians, and hurried. She ducked into the cave, and hissed at the others, "We need something to close it with. I think there's another way out." The cave was camfortable sized, with a row of stalgmite columns blocking the back entrance, which led into darkness.
IC: Blackness slwoly stoled itself over the group, and soon enough Jesselle found herself groping blidnly along the rough surface of the cave. Her hands scrapped at dirt and she felt an icky gooey stuff staining her fingers...
"We need something to close it with. I think there's another way out."
"There better be another way out," Jessica muttered, not liking the darkness already...who knows, maybe there's something else inhabiting this cave, something big, nasty, and really ugly.
As they descended deeper and deeper, the distant sohuting of the barbarians became increasingly faint, and yet they had not reach an exit.
They smell grew worse, taking a smell of more than a millenia of decay and desolation.
"Don't worry." She looked to the shape shifter. "We need to take care of your wounds.." Stopping the group, she groped the wall for something. Whispering a few words, a dull blue light began to eminate from a pendant that was in her hand.
"Dryads reside in this cave.. or rather thier roots. I had the fortunate exprience of making the aquiantance of one.. They're wonderful for traveling to all parts of Krynn.. Their layer is deep within this cave.." She glanced to the shifter.
-------------------------------------------------------
Kharia LostStar glided on the thermals, over a pleasant forest. However, she was far from happy. She missed her frigid homeland, and found everything too hot. She noticed a group of rocks, sticking up from the forest. She swooped down to land, and noticed an unpleasant looking-group of humans milling about in the forest. Even for humans, they looked barbarous.
She landed on the rock, and rose, stretching her wings. Her human body was roughly 6 feet tall, not inclduing her bird-like wings. Her hair was a combination of white and silver, even though she was young. All she wore was an unusually made dress. It was sleeveless, and silvery with white emdroidery, and a long skirt, slit highly on both sides, and it's collar rose on her pale neck. Her eye color had a habit of shifting according to various things, the moon, planets, temperature, day and night, even. At the moment they shone light purple, as she gazed across the expanses of trees.
Jesselle fingered the small pouch on her right side. In it contained a small piece of herb she had came upon before she had arrived in the village. The herb was designed to alleviate the pain and provide stamina, but not to wholly heal it. It also was a one time use and if she decided to apply it on the shapeshifter, she herself would be vulnerable to whatever infliction she might contract later on. But the more she observed the cat, the more she saw that the shapeshifter, even in her cat form, was slowly deteriorating as it limped along with the group.
The shapeshifter did indeed save her life from those brutes, she mused.
Hesitantly, she withdrew the herb and made her decision. She should stop trying to merely look out for herself and consider about others especially the ones that had plucked her from death’s grasp. Being a lone travelr as she is, she never had an option, and now it was a start.
Moving smoothly towards the cat faltering along, she gently placed a hand on its back to stop it.
“Here,” she said softly, feeling for the injury through the darkness. She felt the soft epidermis of the skin, where there was a deep gash made by the arrow.
“There, this might make you deal with the pain a little bit easier.” She applied the herb onto the wound. Soon enough, the herb would take its effect, and the shapeshifter would have enough strength to reach the place Varan was speaking of.
"You two can continue doing that.. I owe you both an explanation.."
Looking off into the blue glowing sphere she smiled gently.
"Long ago, the gods of Krynn created the race of the Irda. The Irda society flourished, and as with most cultures, Magic flourished as well. But as with everything, the magic began to taint the thoughts of the Irda, slowly stealing away thier innocence.
In a final act of disgust the Platinum Dragon destroyed the Irda race, and the black queen turned them into what are known today as Ogres.."
She glanced up to the two girls.
"Before this happened, A portion of the society rebuked the ways of the Irda, and pulled away into Solitude. Sensing thier sincerity of these groups, the gods offered a boon. . We would live isolated from all of Ansalon, stripped of our magical powers. All of the women agreed with this, as they had heard of wilder magic and had already begun to dabble in it.
The men of the tribe revolted, taking up arms against the gods. These men were sentanced to spend eternity on a small isle. To ensure thatthe two races would propgate, the Marduk, were placed on another island and taught a spell to open up a portal between the isles. On the night of the eye, the two groups would get together and propgate.."
"Awile back the Enki invaded the home of the Marduk on the night of the eye, enslaving some, killing others. These men, the Enki, are the warriors you saw tonight."
"For some reason they have set thier sights on Ansalon. and are harnessing the techknology and magic of the female Marduk to do so.."
"Fearing the worst a small group of Marduk and myself escaped to this town, where we thought we could dig up people to fight these warriors.. Never in my entire life did I ever expect them to show up here..." She sniffled, a tear drop falling onto the dirt ground.
There are so many questions and yet so little time to answer...she thought as she gazed into the shaodws were Varan's face was supposde to be.
She couldn’t see clearly their expression but she could tell their thoughts mirrored hers.
“These warriors are vast in numbers and in strength. There is nothing your small raggedy group can do now, even if it includes us. WE must attepmpt to tell the council in Solamnia, an dlet them handle it. Then afterwards we can deal with the situation with you and your Enkhis.”
"Nice reflexes.." She muttered, pulling a dagger from one of her side pockets. Jumping up off of one of the walls she leapt for the creature, praying against fate that the dagger would hit home..
They were just minutes from the other end.. To meet fataility now would be the worst punsihment the gods could whip out.
Daylight? She blinked, suddenly very confused. They hadn't been in the cave that long...
Daylight streamed from the suddenly bright exit.
"Impossible.." She whispered, turning and waiting for her companions.
The rocks of the cave finally gave in a final blast, the enki streaming into the small cavern. The first scratched his head, and looked to his companion to confirm what he was seeing.
"Where could they have gone...." The captain whispered. The small cavern dead ended about twenty feet back. They couldn't have gone far.
IC: Varan stared at the new comer, slightly confused as to where she came from. Shrugging she stepped out into the light, temporarily blinded.
In front of the small party lie an open green field, filled with flowers colored yellow and white. The sky above shone a crystal blue, and the wind gently blue down from the hills.
Across from where the party stood loomed a black cloud, crackling with lightning. A baren desert expanded from the sudden drop off of lush greenery. To the left was a small grey area, with flowers and sand that resembled much of Krynn.
Voices echoed from the black pit in the middle of the three areas. Three people, one dressed in red, one in white, and one in black stood above a dark pit.
"It was your husband that's the cause of all this! Had he not made the bargain..."
"Sargas." began the woman clad in white. "You know as well as I do, that not all of them are bad. That's why Paladine did what he did."
"It's time for you to take care of his mistake." The dark minotaur huffed.
The blue lady glared at the god of dark, and turned to the grey clad person.
"What does the Torbil believe we should do?" The man in grey shook his head.
"Can't say." Said the figure, still writing in his book.
Mishikal rolled her eyes. "Well clearly killing the whole lot of them is out of the question." She turned from the other two gods, shaking her head.
sargas stepped forward. "We agreed never to let this happen again."
"YOU may have agreed, But I haven't. I will not go killing his children."
"you really have no other choice." Said Sargas.
"We are not allowed to interfere directly with Krynn's affaris." Gilean stepped forward, angrily glancing to his bretheren. "This is the age of mortals."
"Mortals? They are our children. The Marduk and Enki are our children. A parent would never turn thier backs."
Sargas shouted "They have disobeyed! They have broken an oath with the gods of Krynn! They must-"
"Be treated with the dignity and respect we would treat our children with."
Sighing Mishikal floated up to the patch of green grass, casually glancing in the direction of the party. She smiled gently, and winked as the pasture began to wave in and out of sight. They reappeared in the gloomy gray of dawn, A forest surrounded them, birds chirping, and the sound of small game scampering for it's morning breakfast.
"How.. strange.." Veran whispered. "Were we just in the realm of.. and did the blue lady..." She scratched her head, feeling woozy all of a sudden. So much had happened, and so quickly. Her world faded to black.
Jesselle rubbed her eyes, blinking furiously from the sudden shift in the lighting. Pitch black was exactly the word to describe the circumstances now.
What happened, she thought.? Where are the others? She groped blindly around her, hands flailing in every directions yet she was not graspoing onto anything. Then finally after several minutes of groping empty air, her hands smacked into a rouch surface and it confirmed her fears. They were still stuck in the cave. They had not escape.
She raised a raspy voice, dry from the lack of water.
"Sorinda, Veran! Is everyone alright?"
Her thoughts relected collectively. They had heard the gods themselves spoke after the party exited the cave. But what were they speaking of? She wracked her mind to remember clearly, but merely came up with a blank. She shivered. Whatever it was, the party was standing on its hinges, unable to control the inevitable.
"Sorinda! Veran!" This time she heard a groan from several yards away from her.
Sun streamed with an eerlie green light through the tops of the trees. The party had entered a small clearing, that seemed magical in and of itself.
Varan's eyes were quickly adjusting to the darker enviroment. Squirrels and other small animals scurried along the leaf sodden floor, making tiny rustlihg sounds as they went.
Airiana
12/24/2003 10:30 AM
"Something has been burning… Perhaps dragons' breath?"
Varan's assumption had been correct; not far off from them, near a woodland clearing, Airiana was dining on her fresh-killed meal. Unfortunately, distant voices had distracted her somewhat, and her breathweapon had left quite a mark on the ground. It appeared that it had been thoroughly scorched, then frozen solid, as it now was.
I shouldn't have used my breath to kill it, she lamented to herself silently. I could have just as easily snapped its neck. Drat those voices! For a moment, I could have sworn I heard Mishakal! And Gilean as well! But why would I hear the voices of two of my Gods so? They seemed to be discussing something they found quite important with someone else… by the sound of it, a Dark God. Usually if I hear their voices, they speak to me, but not this time… Airiana brushed the thought from her mind with a dismissive flick of her long tail and returned to feasting on the bison before her.
It was not as large as she would have hoped, but it would suffice; the herd beasts of this part of Ansalon seemed smaller than others. Or perhaps, she thought with a sigh. It is I who am growing larger. With that thought, she snaked her metallic-red scaled head up and looked back at herself. She was certainly quite large, but it was hard for her to tell if she had grown any of late.
In her true form—as she was now—Airiana stood nearly one-hundred feet tall, and as much and half again as long. Her wingspan was easily one-hundred seventy-five feet, and her girth was enough, if she was not careful, to shake the very ground when landing from flight. This was only when she was forced to do so from top speed though, which rarely—if ever—happened. Her scales were strange, as was to be expected, due to her lineage; her mother, a Silver dragon known commonly as Lanista (who was among the first generation of dragons), had willingly flown in mating with a Red dragon, known as Chenullo.
Even then, not long after the first dragons were created, this was considered among one of the most terribly actions possible. Lanista had been evil at heart, and had fallen head over tail for the Red, and he for her. When the Silvers found out what Lanista had done, and also found that this flight had brought hatchlings into the world, they decreed that she would be made to kill her own children and then be caste into exile.
This she did, storming into the cave she used for her home and dispelling her breathweapon upon nine of the ten hatchlings. Only one escaped her: Airiana. She had been hiding and her mother did not realize that there was a difference. Shortly after her forced exile, Lanista killed herself rather than be apart from the dragon she loved, which she was also forced to do.
Airiana had been likewise banished from both realms, though they taught her what they could, amidst insults and jeerings, before sending her on her way.
As it were, Airiana's scales were a mixture of her parents': some would call it a silverish-red, others a red-hewn silver; others still called her a metallic-pink dragon, but it mattered little to the dragoness—she was herself, and the color of her scales was something she had long since learned to deal with. She was a hybrid dragon, an abomination… forever distant from both of her parentage's sides, and yet a strange neutral ground between the two.
Her silver eyes looked up from the bison and surveyed the forest around her. With her keen ears, she heard more voices—though they were different ones than those she had previously heard, and fast approaching. Realizing that they would soon be upon her, Airiana scarped down the rest of her meal and transformed to her human appearance as quickly as possibly, though she realized that her stomach would not oblige the change so quickly, and would make her pay for it later.
Her body began morphing quickly; first her tail receded into nothingness and her neck shrank down to a normal human size. Then her powerful, reptilian legs' joints switched position and became much smaller and less powerful. Her long talons receded into long but manageable nails and she was forced to stand, bipedal, on what were now human feet. Her scales seemed to move out and became the soft velvet of a magus's robes, their color shifting back and forth from a crimson red to silver with the light. Her snout shrunk in and became a small, petit nose. Her eyes stayed the same, and her reptilian lips changed into lush, deep-red human ones. What was now skin was darkly tanned, and the long hair that sprouted from her head was auburn with silver streaks that waved lazily down her back.
Her transformation complete, Airiana smiled to herself. What shall I call myself in this form? Hmm… perhaps Riandral? Kildra? Silvan? Kilairiandra? Or perhaps Comet, as I am known amongst the barbarians? Or shall I use my usual name, Airiana? At this, she sighed. Well, with a true Name as long as mine, there are many options to consider. I think Riandral, for now… Yes, that will do.
Thinking thus, Airiana made sure that there were no obvious visible signs of her True form to be seen. The only clue was the frozen scorch mark, but from where the travelers were heading, they should not be able to see it. She made her way over to where they would be passing, and judged from the array of races, using Common would be best.
"Hail travelers!" She called out in the Common tongue. "Where goest thee
?"
Airiana raised an eyebrow at Varan's cryptic answer. "Very well, I was on my way to the village when I saw strange warriors heading in the same direction. `Twas strange... I did not know there were many Irda left in this world," she commented, looking at Varan with a sardonic smile. "But then, I have been away from these parts of Ansalon for quite some time. As it is, I have no where in particular to go at the moment. May I be of any assistance to thee and thine?"
"What can I do?"
Kharia frowned.
"This can be painful. If your friend struggles, please try and hold her secure."
THe winged woman dug through a pouch, and produced a frosty blue gem, roughly the size of a pea, and shaped like a tear.
"In my homeland, these occur naturally. They have great healing powers."
She inspected the leg of the unfortunate and passed out shapeshifter.
"This is not good. She tried to walk on it, no doubt."
Her voice showed that htis was more a statement than a question.
She pulled out a crudely made knife, made from a bright shining silver, and pushed back the torn skin slightly, revealing the beak in the bone.
Sorina moaned slightly, and twitched.
Kharia took no notice, and, still holding back the skin, gently laid the blue gem on the break.
THe young shapeshifter gasped, and jerked.
The frosty blue gem, with it's swirling depths, turned a blood red, with the color trickling in like blood spreading in water.
Kharia removed the gem, revealing the healed bone beneath.
She pulled a thin rod of the same silver, so thin it was almost a wire, and released the skin.
She pulled the two flaps on the sides of the wound together, and with a wince, stuck the wire through it.
Sorina jerked, and then lay still, her breathing easier.
Like sowing pieces of cloth, Kharia sowed the wound back up, and the silver held it closed. It shone in the sunlight for an instant, and the it flashed, leaving tiny flowerlike sparks drifting down, and the wound was closed, and the color returned to Sorina Geledar's face.
Kharia lifted the gem, and threw it into the air, where t gave a tiny explosion, the same sort of flower-like sparks drifted down.
She put her knife back into her pack, and turned to see the newcomer who Varan was talking to.
In her mind, she spoke to the woman that she recognized as a dragon.
Um, her rce was created by the air elementals to guard an ancient city of there's, and are alot like elementals, and thus can see dragons.
Kharia suddenly felt a wave of dragonfear along with the smell of death.
A huge shadow swept over the sun, outlining a dragon.
Airiana looked from the fleeing group up to the bone dragon, unmoved. It did not seem to have seen them, though with a dragon's senses, it would be futile to run and hide if the Bone dragon decided to go after any of them. She thought about telling as much to the group, but found that they had all fled before she was able to do so. Shrugging, she looked up at the Bone dragon. 'Dragonbone... what brings thee to these lands? Thou hast come at a time where Chaos reigns supreme, and the people are encumbered with the barbarian Irda. If thou wishest to cause more trouble, thou wouldst do better to find another, more peaceful place.' She bespoke the Bone dragon, who still rode high in the sky.
Ages ago, the bone dragon had been a silver, known as Icestar.
Millenia of being dead had warped him, corrupting and changing him, but he was notorious among bone dragons for still attempting to follow the alignment of the Light.
The dragon's voice startled him, jarring him to his senses.
Blessed Paladin! What am I doing??? ran through his head.
His senses that sought life, warmth, and the very essence of living beings told him that four or so people were on the ground: a shape-shifter, a being that appeared to be similar to Irda, an elemental being, and a silver-red dragon.
Silver-Red? An abomination!?
His old self, Icestar, would have tried to attack this hybrid, destroy it utterly, rendgng it's flesh for carrion, but now, he himself, was a form of abomination.
He paused.
He knew he had been sent to kill, by a powerful, evil, force, and instructed to....to...
Kill the Marduk.
What?
Kill the Marduk.
That was his command. Kill the Marduk and it's companions.
The dragon once known as Icestar, who now knew nothing, no race, no peace, no hope, no name, settled to the ground in front of the Abomination.
"You, you are abomination. It does not matter. Tell your friends I will not harm them."
Airiana felt the cold sting in her heart at the word abomination. One would think that by now, she thought bitterly to herself. The word would no longer hurt so, but it does...
"Dost thou give thy Word, that thou wilt not harm them, Dragonbone?" She asked in the Draconic tongue, focusing all her attention to the once-Silver before her.
So many things that seem wrong are happening, I shall tell them what thou hast given thy Word on. Canst thou transform into a less gruesome form? These travellers are much frightened by thine appearance."
The human-dragoness turned to face Varan. "As thou are not as thee seem, neither am I," she said with a smile, switching to Common. "This dragonbone... dragonfriend, has pledged its Word not to harm thee or thy companions. Do call them back before they run into thy barbarious other half."
Kharia was bewildered. The dragon-woman was standing there talking to the bone dragon. She couldn't recognize the language, but it sounded familiar. Maybe the dragon language. What was that? Drac?Darg? Draciac? Something like that.
---------------------
Canst thou transform into a less gruesome form?
"If thou means a smaller form, then aye, that power does not leave. Not even in death." he added bitterly.
The bone dragon's body shrank until ti was reduced to a humanoid form, swathed in a long black cloak, wrapped around it's frame, hiding all but the eyes.
The skeletal dragon had changed into a skeleton.
His eyes were glowing with a strange, green-ish light, and a sort of smoke seemed to be inside of his ribcage and bones.
A few tattered shreds of sinew could be found here and there, but mostly, he simply looked like a very thin human in a large black cloak.
"Be this at all better?" he inquired.
Doth thee remember the tongue? `Twould be easier to communicate with these others if thou couldst, though if thou cannot, I shall be thy interpreter(SP?)," she murmured to the now-skeleton before her. In draconic, he said, "I know not. I, I was Icestar. I am........Icedeath."
Airiana shook her head. "His Common is very outdated, and he slips into our own language very easily... He says that he was called Icestar, but he is now Icedeath. Airiana sighed and reached out her ancient mind to that of the bone dragon's, gripping herself for what she might come in contact with. She poured her knowledge of a newer Common into his brain and updates on several others as well: Qualinesti, Silvanesti, Dwarven, Goblin, and a smattering of the Solamnic dialect and Kagonesti. When she was finished, she let her mind recede from his and bowed in respect to him.
Turning to the others she nodded to show that it was done. It took only a few seconds, though for the two dragons involved, it seemed much longer. "I have given him an easier form of Common for thee to understand... though it may take him a moment to assimilate all the information given to him."
"How do you do Ancient one?" She thought for a second, catching her Islander accent. Prehaps she didn't recall enough of the old lanuage... Honestly, she had had one hundred twenty years.... Slowly she walked up to the dragon and extended her hand.
He smiled softly.
In ancient Ogrish, he replied.
"I had much to do with the Irda. A beautiful and wise folk they are. I grieved much when I learned of their demise during the Chaos war."
He saw the winged woman still crouched in the forest. Using this new Common, he spoke to her.
"Be not afraid. I will not harm thee or thy friend."
------------
Kharia stared at the skeleton that had just told her not to be afraid.
Trembling, she rose, and her wings lifted he so she hovered a spare few inches off the ground. She glided over to Varan's side.
