Mirror
06/22/2003 10:36 AM

The cloaked figure looked about, head moving slowly, surveying the scene. A sigh came from deep within the cowl, and a glimmer of reflection shone from two points deep inside it's depths.

The casual viewer would not have paid much attention. After all, how often did you see a hooded and cloaked person in Solace these days, during these times of trouble? War was breaking out, and there were many strangers moving across the walk ways, both on the ground and in the midst of the leaves and branches, looking for the one thing that the name of the town promised. Each person being watched by the light of the sun by day, and the light of the three moons by night. One more did not even seem to stir the casual viewers interest.

However, anyone who looked more deeply into a situation, who watched how a person moved and interacted with their enviroment, who even paid mre attention to the person themselves would have noticed a feew things. one - the way this person moved, it was almost as if they knew the place, were familiar with the surrondings. Secondly, the person was not male as the casual viewer might have assumed (how many females travelled anywhere on their own these days?! If any did, they were soon robbed, raped, or killed), but female. Thirdly, she walked with an unmistakable grace that could only mean two possible things, she was either high born, or she was an elf. Fourth, she was saddend, alone, and quite afraid, it was easy to see by the way she would twitch at the slightest breeze, the sound of revelers returning from a night spent at the towns inn. But what, the more astute viewer would ask, was she doing here?

The lady moved slowly through the high walkways which wound their way through the treetops. she stepped with the surefotted ease of previous traverse, and although she was jittery, seemed to know the exact point of destination. the light of solinari and lunitari glistened off her cape, which, although black, was made of the type of material that reflected any light that should touch it. The casual viewer would have thought the cape to be made of a black satin. the more astute viewer would have realsied that the shine and polish of the cape was far too high for mere satin. It looked as if someone had spun the cape out of black crystal, or black glass........

She reached her destination - The Inn Of The Last Home. It used to be one of her favourite places to spend an evening. She was well liked, and was certain to find company any night she happened to drop by. Many happy nights she had spent in that inn - storytelling, drinking, eating, gossiping, just reveleing in the delight of being with people who liked her for who and what she was.

But would that have all changed? She had been away for a long time. A lot had happened - she'd changed not just inside, but in apperance too. What would they all think to her? Would she see anyone she knew? Would they want to see her even if she did? She paused with one hand resting gently on the strong wood of the door, indisision and fear creeping though her.

She closed her eyes, prayed to any gods that would still listen to her, and entered the Inn.

She let her eyes adjust slightly to the galre of the light from inside the inn, and the sound of merriment nearly deafened her too sensitive ears. Once she had adjusted, she srveyed her surroundings. There was a place in shadow in the corner that would do, yes, somewhere she would not be seen immeadiately. She quickly hurried over to that spot, noticing that no one had really paid much attention to her entering - strangers in cloakes really were getting that common in Solace. As soon as she sat down, a serving girl came over to her and asked if she required anything. She ordered a mug of ale and some bread and cheese, thinking ruefully of her nearly emptly money pouch as she did so.

Once her order had been delivered, she ate and drank in silence, watching to see if anyone would recognise her, or even dare approach her. Ray: It looks like a giant Jello mould!!

A strange kender roamed the room. Looking at the elf, he saw the sad, but amazingly reflective eyes. "Hey, I know you!" He piped up loudly. "You're Mirror! We met at Thorn's wedding!"The sword, it thirsts to drink of man.

Wylin yawned as she helped her step-cousin clear a load of mugs into the kitchen...she loved nights like these. She brushed a stray curl of silver away from her cobalt blue eyes when she noticed the newcomer enter. As she studied the newcomer she allowed her memories to delve into all those she had met as a child, and those whom her mother had described in great detail...

She searched the woman's face for a long moment before a name was connected. She smiled and was about to say something when someone grabbed her from behind, circling their arms around her slender waist.

She cried out in surprise and turned to find her mate, Hiaku there, his gold eyes bright with merriment and his long black hair loose around his shoulders. She laughed and hugged him back and then turned her attention back to Mirror, and then she noted the Kender that was now there, and sighed...perhaps later would be better for introductions...

Since i don't think Kalia's "Desperate measures" is going anywhere, i'll try Ankh in this one as well.

Ankh Shadowlark slowly scaled the steps up to the inn in Solace, one of the more famous ones. Though she was not keen to attract attention, it had also been the easiest to find and was told it sported excellent food. Hence, she decided to try this out and see it lived up to expectations. She qualified herself a good judge becauase of her wide range of experiance: the warrioress had been to virtually every country except the elves' lands.

She sighed, and placed a couple of coins on the bar. "Whatever this inn is famous for," she muttered sharply.

Feeling very bored (and for a entity such as herself, this was not a good thing), she turned to see if there was anyone interesting here.

She noticed an ef...Silvanesti, she guessed, sitting near a human in a strang garb. There was somethign very wierd about them....very wierd. (http://images.quizilla.com/T/trinitykills/1053662988_z3thetwins.jpg" border="0)want it.

(OOC: Hi Thistle!!!!!! :-) :-) :-) )

Mirror shrinks further back into her hood at the approach of the kender. She recognised him, but how had he recognised her, especially with the hood of her cloak drawn so far over her head. Still, she supposed her features must still be visible in the light from the fire, and they, at least, had not changed, as so far as their shape went.

"Oh, hello! You're Thistledown I believe. It's nice to see you again." she said through a smile that was half sincire and half forced. With her left hand she reached out and grabbed the kenders right, which instantly dropped her money pouch. Ok, so she didn't have much left in it, but she wasn't about to let the kender keep it. "I did not think anyone would be here that recognised me." she said, to herself more than the kender.

She quickly cast her eyes over the rest of the inns patronage. No one else she recognised........but...........

She noticed a woman over by the entrance to the kitchen. Bright silver hair (she gazed at it with fond longing and memories) and colbalt blue eyes...........why did that seem familiar to her? She felt like she should know her, but why? Then the womans attention was distracted as a handsome youth, golden eyes, long black hair swirling round his shoulders..........the sort of man that would have, once upon a time, fallen at Mirrors feet had she but hinted at a night of wonders. Another one of Mirror's talents, not lost but seldom used anymore, had been with the male of the species. She used to be able to twirl the hardest of warriors around her little finger and have them on their knees begging for a favour just hours after meeting them, but no more...............not since..............

She was jolted from her revire when she felt the eyes of another on her, a complete stranger to her. Why did this person show so much interest? Another question that she supposed would be answered in time......... Ray: It looks like a giant Jello mould!!

OOC: POD: only Wylin seems Elvish, not Hiaku, unless you meant Mirror as well.....

BIC: Wylin's sensitive hearing picked up Mirror's words and she smiled...so her memory served her well...or rather her mother's excellent descriptions. she started to walk to Mirror's side, intent on meeting one of her mother's friends...but Hiaku rested his hand on her shoulder for he didn't seem to care for either of the newcomers....

His eyes glanced to the one who had just entered, and represed the urge to snarl... his hand tightened protectively on Wylin's shoulder and she glanced at him questioningly. Then she too looked at Ankh... She trusted Hiaku's instincts, they had both sworn to protect Solace, though sometimes, unfortunately, Wylin's loyalties lay heavily in the balance of the world....

She covered his hand with her own for reasurance, and returned her attention to Mirror.

"Mirror? Of the Kagonesti? My mother has said so much about you...I couldn't fail to recognize one of her closest friends!" She said as she neared, her blue eys bright with sudden joy, her hands held out open in friendship before her.

Meanwhile, Hiaku stayed back by the kitchen nook, his eyes kept moving warily between his love, and the two newcomers....

OOC~ Consider it corrected. Or rather, it IS corrected.

Feeling the gaze of the strange elf and human on her back, she turned to stare back at them, gray eyes hardening immediatly. She raised an eyebrow questioningly, "Is there something you wish of me, or am I merely being stared at for no reason at all? Bad vibes?" She asked coldly, a smirk just barely touching the edges of her pale lips.

Without waiting for his reply, she sampled the spiced potatoes put in front of her. Her informat was correct, they were very good. She made a mental note to stop by the Inn of the Last Home more often.

Watching the strange elf suddenly get up and welcome the person who had already been there, she raised both eyebrows and turned back to the human, who was torn between watching her and the other person who entered and the elf, who he most certainly had feelings for.

"Unless you want something from me, human," She said, her tone no lighter then before, "then stop staring. I have few possession you'd want, and those i'd not give up." (http://images.quizilla.com/T/trinitykills/1053662988_z3thetwins.jpg" border="0)want it.

Hiaku narrowed his eyes, and shook his head. "Just doing my job Lady... you might want to watch that mouth though.... might get you into trouble..." he said, leaning against the wall as he continued to watch the Inn.

He wished his common wasn't so heavily accented, sometimes it took a few moments for people to realize what he was saying. Not that it mattered, very few posed a real threat to him, and even fewer tried....

He turned his attention back to Wylin and her conversation.

"You didn't answer my question, human," She replied, "I asked you why you were staring at me. If your answer was implying i was going to cause trouble, then not only would that be making an incorrect assumption, but it also be taking a major guess about who I am."

Ankh took a sip of the ale, "The food is good here, better then most of the places i've tried. I'd guess you live around here, huh? You'd know what i'm talking about?"

All the while, Ankh was trying to figure out what was so wierd about this man. There was something very strange about him, but she couldn't exactly put her finger on it. Something......something outer-worldly or something. Like he was a planar creature, except he wasnt. (http://images.quizilla.com/T/trinitykills/1053662988_z3thetwins.jpg" border="0)want it.

Mirror

Mirror looked at the woman who appeard to be an elf, a look of puzzlement masking the features that were visable through the cowl of the hood.

"Your.................mother..............?" she said, trying to turn things over in her head. The silver hair, the colbalt blue eyes..............why couldn't she connect?

Then she heard the man who was with the elf woman begin to have an exchange with another stranger. She heard the word "dragon" clearly, and that was all that was needed.

"You are...........Kalia's daughter..?" she asked, unsure, daring to hope, and on the verge of tears all at the same time. Kalia.......her oldest and greatest companion, confidant..............friend. She had never hoped to hear news of her, let alone speak to her daughter.......her daughter.......

Mirror shook her head and brought her thoughts back to some semblance of normality. This probably wasn't Kalia's daughter, she had been wrong about other things before in the past, there was no reason why she couldn't be wrong this time...........yet..........

"what is wrong? You act as though a bit of good news is too good to be true.. what has happened?" She asked, concern evident in her eyes.

Hiaku looked at Ankh for a moment before he shrugged. "I was brought here against my will, and now having no home to return to, I stayed here, with Her..." He said indicating Wylin.

"I am Hiaku Seimiya. And yes, the appearance you speak of is common in my home, though far to the west, there are dragons rumored to be similar to the ones you have here in this world..." He said, and failed to add, though none like Wylin.....

"Yes... However I suggest that you refrain from mentioning his name to me... It is still a matter where the scars are still fresh..." He snarled, as regret filled his eyes and he glanced at Wylin.... "You could always check out Crystalmir Lake about a year ago, when I settled here, a pair of trees grew near the bank, one is beautiful, with silvery leaves that brush the water...the ther proud and strong, sheltering. They say it's a symbol of a local dragon, and her undying love. " He chuckled softly.

"Then if you should happen by Sanction, there is the Black Crystal Monument, It's what's left of a Dragon killed by a powerful red dragon, it's kept by the dragon's mate, whose own tower is just south of Solamnia. You should check that out as well..." He said as he turned his attention back to Wylin and her "Friend"

Mirror
06/25/2003 7:46 AM

Mirror looked at Wylin. Her eyes were large and bright with wonder and.........was that relief?

The Kagonesti moved forward and wrapped Wylin up in an embrace, saying "I cannot believe I have met Kalia's daughter, this is so fortunate, I never expected............."

Before she could finish her sentance, the cowl of her hood fell back with the force of the movement towards the embrace. Mirror pulled away instantly, shocked, and tried to pull the cowl up, but saw that she had already generated too much attention to ever try to recover her "normality" stance.

People around the Inn stopped to look at her. Her hair, used to fall in long silver waves and be braided at the temples. It now hung around her shoulders in long, midnight blue waves. In the light of the inn, it almost looked like a black poison poured over the deepest blue ocean in places.

Her eyes, for which she had been named, still held a unrelenting reflective quality to them, but they had turned what looked to the casual viewer to be completly white, with a single black dot in the middle acting as her pupil. If you looked at them long enough however, you noticed that many different colours swirled in them, giving them a crystaline effect. When you looked into them, it was like looking into some garish mirror - the image was reflected back contorted and twisted, the flecks of colour turning your skin the colour of death.

Her skin was pure white. It was streched thinly over her fine bone structure, and was smooth, free of blemish. The tattoo on her right cheek which had been of a dove, had somehow transmogrified to look like a crow.

Her lips were still full and slightly pouty, yet instead of the soft, healthy pink they used to be, they had turned a purple hue. They looked like lips of the dead...............

With tears in her eyes she looked around at the inn full of astonished faces. She tried to pull up the hood of her cloak in vain, it kept getting caught up on itself. she gave it up in the end and turned her frightening yet tear stained eyes up to Wylin.

"I'm sorry", she half whispered, half choked, beofre she ran out of the inn.Ray: It looks like a giant Jello mould!!

though shocked by Mirror's appearance, completely alien to what her mother had described, she was more shocked by her teary reaction. Wylin stood and knocked over her chair in her haste to follow Mirror.

"Wait!" She cried and gave Hiaku a look that plainly meant for him to remain here. She brushed by a spikey-haired man that Mirror had nearly knocked over. She called out an apology as she ran past, and for the hundreth time was thankful for the short tunic-skirt that enabled her to run freely.

"Mirror...don't run from me!" She pleaded, knowing that if she wanted to stop the elf she could...but in her mother's name she couldn't do such a think.

The white skin was the second complete shock, and the dark hair the girl carried was beautiful. She was puffy-eyed and teary.

Mirror
06/27/2003 11:53 AM

Mirror ran.

She ran faster than she had ever run before, ignoring the cries of Wylin behind her, and the hands of others that tried to halt her passage.

She swept past other passerbys, some shouted insults after her, she heard the gasp of others as the light of the moons caught her eyes. She ran, and she kept on running until she found herself on the shores of Crystalmir lake.

She stopped, realising that her feet must have bought her here whilst working in conjunction with her subconcoius (sp?). During her time spent in Solace, she had always found the lake a peaceful, serene and thought provoking place. Whenever she had found it difficulat to deal with the things life threw at her, she found herself back here, always.

She found herself becoming mezmerized by the play of the moonlight over the water, and her thoughts started to drift. the longer she stood there, the more entranced she bacme, until she was in a kind of trance where her thoughts were no longer her own. The moonlight on the water began to take on a life of it's own, started to swirl, to form shapes.

To start off with she saw images of what her life used to be like - first were pictures of her younger days, when she and her sister had first moved to Solace, the last surviving members of their kagonesti clan. Then, the untiely death of her sister - apparent suicide. She was faced with the image of her sister hanging from the branched of one of the vallenwoods, as she had been that day that Mirror found her. The images shifted, and suddenly there was an older version of Mirror, clad in white robes of the order of magic she had once belonged to, sitting across the table from a black robed mage - Triton. She remebered the feelings of love for him, and how, when they had both taken the order of the silver robes, the Thorn had profisised the birth of Triplets to Mirror...............Triplets..................

Then the man in the image changed from Triton, the black robed, dark skinned ERgothian to a young red robed mage - Justin.....then the image changed once anagin.....Tantric.....................then back to Triton, back to the look on his face the day he found out about her and Justin, the look on his face, how he had ridden off, never to be seen or heard from again. He would not stop despite Mirror's anguished screams, despite the fact that his seeds grew larger in her belly each day.

Back to Tantric...the evil gods...the scrolls.........the hedge maze. Gaia, what a loyal friend she had been! Right up to the last.......Her face suddenly appeard, an accusing look written on it, hate in her eyes. Then suddenly they were all there, all of the people she had wronged over her years, the people she had hurt for one reason or another, people she had left behind.

In the centre were her children. Her children, still born in the hedge maze, or so she thought. Yet here they were, accusing her of abandoning her. She hadn't, they were dead, Gaia said so. Had Mirror herself not cradeled each one in her arms as she gave birth to them, watched their little bodies emerge lifless from between her legs? Did she not cry as she buried them? Yet here they were..............

Then came the laughter.

Evil.

Terrible.

Mirror dropped to her knees, yet was unable to pull away from the visions on the water. The part of her brain that was still her own told her that she was just seeing things, none of it was real. Yet there they were in front of her, just like he'd said they would be................she'd hurt so many people through her life, she could not abandon her children now that they were finally there before her. She started to walk forward, determined to be re-united with them, all the while the evil laughter ringing in her head. She wouldnot leave them, not this time.........Ray: It looks like a giant Jello mould!!

"What's up with her?" Ankh asked the kender next to her, talking about triplets, "She's like in some sort of trance."

The strange girl began to walk foward, closer towards Crystalmir lake. Ankh's face suddenly contorted with rage, then smoothed over as she grabbed the girl's arm again and tightened her grasp, stronger then a human warrioress could have, pulling the girl away from the lake, away from the death she was so willingly taking. She would not be breaking her grasp this time.

She grabbed the girl's other arm so they were face to face. SHe looked into those mirror-like eyes to see herself not aging like she was supposed, but a shadowy being smirking at her, a laughing smirk that she hated, hated so much.. Supressing a gasp and a snarl, she shook the girl several times, "Wake up." She said quietly but confidently, "You're in a trance. You were going to drown yourself." Wylin watched the scene in shock.... the stranger that Hiaku was speaking with earlier had shaken Mirror, attempting to bring sense to her. Wylin had caught odd warring of emotions on the stranger's face...

Quietly she moved to Mirror's side. "Mirror! Wake up!" she cried softly, using some of her own power to try to shock her friend into sanity...

She remembered her mother's story about Mirror, the loss of her children, and a battle against their apparitions many years later... her mother didn't go into it any further.... but her father, Navare had spoken of Mirror as well... as he had helped them banish the evil gods from Krynn.... using scrolls....

Perhaps it was the scrolls that had caused such a startling change in the Kagonesti?

"Mirror...come on please!" She begged, wishing ferverently that her mother was here....

Suddenly the world wavered around Wylin and she could see something over the lake... three young people... a boy in white, a girl in red and a boy in black (hope I remembered that right) ... and remembering the part that her mother had told her, these had to be Mirror's children... or rather their apparitions...

"No... Mirror, they're not there, not really... please wake up." She cried as the silver moonlight struck the two intertwined trees, the silver leaves of the willow made the moonlight reflect in hundreds of tiny silver rays... one ray blinded Wylin and she blinked.

Only to see the world as it was, no apparitions of three children, though the trees still glowed with Solinari's light.

"Mirror?" she whispered, her hands trembling...

"Your friend here almost drowned herself by trying to get those apparitions you just saw," Ankh replied, still holding Mirror in a tight grasp on her arm with one hand as the other moved to scratch an itch on her neck, "Mirror, huh? I see where she gets her name from. Nice eyes, she's got there. Freaked me out, and I haven't been freaked out since I was roughly twelve or so."

She was, of course, referring to the situation that had left her the way she was now, but this elf, no elf, some sort of part-Krynn dragon she had not yet exactly figured out what, did not need to know that. And she'd been trapped in the body of a twelve-year-old for almost five years. (OOC: If you are in the Fernwood thread you'll know what i'm talking about. If not, that's alright too. It's only backround information, not nesacery).

"Can you snap her out of this trance?" Her words were laced with a mocking tone that was hidden under layers of concern, and of course, the fact that it would not exactly put her on good terms with Zakuro's dragon's mate. "I can try..." Wylin said, and closed her eyes, cupping her hands together. A silver/grey light shimmered in her hands and gained shape.... a miniature of her own dragon form glimmered in the light of the silver moon.

the miniature dragon was not totally tangible, but seemed ghost-like.

Mother did this, once before to try to pull Mirror out of it before.... she never did say if it worked...but I have to try.... She thought as she raised her hands the miniature crystal dragon spread its feathered wings and shot forward... joining with mirror, in hopes to finding her within her self-imposed nightmare.... and waking her.

OOC: Kalia, Mirror had two girls and one boy - the girls wore white and red robes, the boy the black!!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

The outside Mirror did not hear, see or feel anything of what was going on with her physical form any more. She was off, to coin a phase, in a world of her own.

But the part of her that was still coherant wanted out.

The part of her that was still able to form consious thought fought to get out of the self imposed prison the other half of her had put up, the half that was still controlled by him.................

Deep within the sub concious of the kagonesti's mind, the sane half of Mirror continued to throw herself against the silvery cage that imprisoned her. She could see her other half off in the distance, having imaginary conversations with people who were no longer around. Gaia was there......but she had not been there in the real world for a long time.......ever since Mirror's "transformation", her "becoming". Then there was Samkin. Out of all the men she had known, it did not surprise her that he was the one who was here with her other half now. He had, after all, been the one to find her once she had "become", he had helped her to regain some semblance of her old self. He had loved her for the sake of the God's!!!

But he wasn't around anymore, just like Gaia...............

And if nothing else that was why she must get control over herself again, merge her two halves to become whole again. The sane Mirror continued to throw herself against her prison. Determined. She must get out..........

But then there were the children. Her children. They were with her when she decended into this relm. The sane half of her stopped as she watched her other half embrace each child in turn, two female, wearing white and red robes, and one male, wearing the black robes that his father had worn before him. They all had her eyes, her elvish features, yet they carried his dark skin, his human frame......especially her son.......almost a complete blue print of his father, apart from the slightly finer bone structure and the almond eyes, slightly pointed ears.

The sane half stopped her assult on the cage and just stood there, finally giving up hope. She was stuck here forever. Then there was the laughter.

Loud booming, evil laughter filled her very existance. And then the voice............

"Don't tell me I've beaten you at last! I thought, to be honest, you'd put up a longer fight. But, after all, you are a mere elf. A skilled mage maybe, but an elf none the less, and they are weak by their very nature.

"I honestly thought you'd be different....thought you'd pose me more of a challenge..........still never mind."

The laughter again.

"You're soul will be much more use to me now, now that it's broken a little, now that I know a way I can control you!!!" The words dissolved into another bout of insane laughter that drove the sane half of Mirror to the depths of dispair.

She'd never get out, not now.

Something caught her eye. The glimmer of crystal feathers, the fluid movement of a dragon. She was about to say Kalia's name, but then realised that it was not her old friend, the colours and the shape of the dragon was slightly different, yet still similar. "Wylin........?" she asked, hoping beyond hope that it was really her, not just another image He had decided to put here to break her spirit just that bit more....... Wylin flew harder, hoping to reach her new-found friend in time, and reached out a clawed "hand" Reach for me! She screamed

"Nine-hundred-ninety-nine. One thousand!" Roku grunted wearily as he finished his morning session of push-ups. He was sitting by the lake meditating when he was suddenly distracted by the odd scene occuring on the other side of the lake.

The master of martial arts rose to his bare feet. His flowing white pants fluttered in the wind. He wore no shirt, showing his outstanding physique. It was not bulky, but dense and muscular all the same. A bulky build would get in the way of his fighting. He had a very visible scar on his chest.

As Roku walked to the odd scene to discover what the problem was, he began to think about what had happened to him at this very spot a year ago.........

----------------------------------------------------

He had not been the most skilled martial arts fighter in Krynn at the time because he was the same as all other fighters then, however, he still worked out every morning. He was training in the very spot he was this morning, getting ready for a tournament. Roku had caught a glimpse of a man on the other side of the lake. It was a black robed mage, and he floated across the lake, over to Roku. Roku was very alarmed. In fear, he lept in the air and attempted to kick the mage in the face, but quickly was sent the the floor as lightning shot from the mages fingers and hit him in the chest.

" Do not fight me!" the mage spoke. " That is the last pain you will ever feel. I come offering you power beyond your wildest dreams. I see potential in you young man. I know of the tournament you enter tomorrow in Solace. I have been watching you for weeks here at the lake. What I offer will make you the most skilled hand combat fighter in Krynn. Do you accept?"

Roku rose, rubbing his chest in pain. " Fine! I accept. But what do you want from me? Why are you doing this?"

The mage grinned. He spread his fingers and chanted a spell. Roku was surrounded by a bright green light. It lasted only seconds. Roku fell to the floor.

" What have you done to me?" Roku asked in fear.

" I have made you resistant to pain. You will bleed, and you can brake bones, but you will never quit." The mage said. He tossed a dagger to Roku. " See for yourself."

Roku reached out for the blade but the touch of the hilt burned his hand. He quickly dropped it. Roku stared at the mage with anger. " You lie!"

The mage laughed. "Ha! Now you discover your curse! You cannot hold weapons without burning yourself. The Queen of Darkness is always watching you. Just as us mages cannot use anything but daggers. You may be attacked with a weapon without pain, but you cannot hold one. What i expect in return is your loyalty. When i call upon you, you must answer me and aid me when i am in need. You will hear it in the wind my boy. Farewell!" The mage whispered a spell and disappeared.

Roku snapped out of the transe. He cleared his mind from the memories of the year before and continued walking towards the group at the other side of the lake. He noticed one of them look over to him and he paused in his tracks.....If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

The cage around her instantly shattered, and the sound of laughter turned into a wail. Long, loud, a howl of rage. He would not get her this time, she swore it.

Mirror swung herself with some kind of miraculous agility up onto her friends back and clung on for dear life.

OOC: Wylin's dragon form is small in this "dream", not much larger than a dog.

BIC: Wylin reached out one clawed "hand" and clasped Mirror's tightly. There was a flash of silver light and they where thrown from the dream world.

Wylin swayed on her feet, and nearly fell into the waters of the lake. She blinked her blue eyes and looked up to Mirror....

"Mirror?" She asked.

Hiaku, meanwhile had grown worried when Wylin didn't return and followed their trail down to the lake. Seeing Wylin sway, he wrapped his arm around her shoulder to steady her. She rested her head against his chest for a moment, calming her shakey breathing before turning her attention back to Mirror and the others.

Hiaku's gold eyes watched not only Mirror but Ankh and the newcomer as well. "What's happened here?" He growled, the threat audible in his voice.

OOC: Soz Kalia, thanks for the pick up from my slip up!!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Mirror opened her eyes suddenly. She just stared for a few moment, not breathing, not seeing. Then her breath flowed back into her form again, and she could make out dark blurry shapes. She looked around her, seeing forms, but not being able to tell who they were, friend or foe. Her gaze turned upon one of the crowd, and she thought she recognised him. The figure moved forward, and although it was still blurry, she was certain. She saw the long brown hair, the deep dark eyes, the slightly protruding nose.

"Samkin?" she murmered. She reached out for him, and then blinked her eyes back into focus again, and saw that it was not who she had thought it was. The hair was not as long, darker, the nose not as protruding. She sighed deeply, her breath slightly hitching in her throat from exhaustion. She blinked two more times, the little flecks of colour swirling faster in her irisless, yet still reflective eyes. She looked around the group not recognising any of them until her gaze settled on Wylin.

She settled herself up on her elbows, and then pushed herself into a sitting position, before gingerly making her way to her feet. Her skin was much paler than normal, and her eyes were wider, yet sunken in. She faced the dragon in elfin form and hugged her fiercly.

"Thankyou so much Wylin. Your mother did that once for me before, and I owe you the same great debt that I owe her. Thankyou." As she pulled away, all noticed the tears in her eyes.

She studied each one closley, yet only Wylin and her mate seemed to be able to hold her gaze for any period of time.

Mirror looked around the group, studied them all. There was something about the one they called Roku, but she wasn't sure what it was...............she dismissed the thought from her mind and turned back to Ankh.

"I understand what you say, but I do not mind telling my story. It's he reason I came back here. You see, an evil mage has two people that are very dear to me held captive. I want to get them back. It's my fault that they are where they are now, but I want t oo try and make up for that! I just can't do it on my own..........................."

She paused, and studied the group for a third time, her strange eyes reflecting each one back in turn.

"I suppose I should start from the beginning, and if any of you are still interested when you have heard my tale, then I will be more than welcome for your help. If not, then I will feel no ill will towards you. All I ask is that you listen....................

"My name is Mirror" the kagonesti began, "As you can tell from my features and my pointed ears, I am an elf of kagonesti heritage. I did not always look like this, as Wylin's mother would be able to vouch were she here. The way I look now is as the result of something that happened, but I will get to that in time.

"It all started not long after the Thorns wedding. He was the founder of the order of Silver Robes, a group of mages who were able to draw from the magic of all three moons. I was a member of that order, and friend to his wife. I was bridesmaid at their wedding, and after the festivities I decided to stay at the silver tower for a little while longer, to catch up on my studies. I had been on the road a long time before that, and they had been sorely neglected.

"As I was looking through the books, I came upon one which documented the process of being able to bring those who had died upon entering the world back to life. The book said that these spirits had been robbed of the chance to blossom and age on earth, and that their chance could be given bck to them again. However, the book did not detail the how's why's and wherefore's of the spell. My heart came up into my throat. I had lost three children of my own. I miscarried after a battle with an evil god, which I sure your mother told you of Wylin. All I could keep thinking of was what if this could work for me?! What if my children could be brought back? I carried on searching through the rest of the book, to see if there were any further details. There was no more information on that particular spell, but there was on others, some to terrible to even contemplate! There were details of the best way to use magic to punish adulterers, which was the best herb to use should you need to poison someone without being detected, how to produce twisted hybrid beings to do your biddig...............just thinking of them even now gives me shivers.

"Yet all I could keep thinking of was this one spell. Yes, the book was most deffinately evil, but would I be able to live with myself for the rest of my life knowing that I had let this opportunity pass by? And, as you know, us elves are alive for a very long time. I needed someone' s advise on the situation, so I went to my dearest friend Gaia, a cleric of Mishkail.

"I told her of the situation, and her instant reaction was one of disgust. "how could you even contemplate such a thing?!" she asked me. She couldn't understand why I was so eager to find out more. We argued, and both said things that we did not mean. Finally, although she did not agree with it, she said that she would help me if it was what I really wanted. It was. She suggested that we track down the mage who had written the book, and ask him for more details.

"After months of searching we managed to track him down to a little village outside of Flotsam. He was old and wizened, all but blind, and not at all as menacing and evil looking as I had first imagined him to be. He took me and Gaia into his home, and spoke to us about the book he had written."

Mirror stopped and looked around to make sure she still had her audience. If they had already decided to leave, then there was no point in carrying on.......................Ray: It looks like a giant Jello mould!!

Mirror looked around everyone, her eyes relieved and reflecting the smile that moved over her lips with their strange death purple hue. She licked them and started again.

"Thankyou all of you for your support, especially you Thistledown,"she sadi, looking directly at the little kender, sitting quiet with his hands in his pockets. "The simple fact that you are still here and have not wondered off to find something more interesting is support enough. Thank you again my little kender kin." she said, smiling again. the rest of the group sudenly realised how tired the elf looked, as if the whole experience had been too much for her. Dark circles surrounded her strange eyes, and made them appear sunken. They returned to focusing at a point off in the distance, as they had before. She started her story once again.

"Gaia and I sat and talked with the mage for a long time. although he was a black robed mage, her was old, and seemed quietend by age. He was docile, friendly, like most old people are. He was so convincing, even Gaia was fooled, and it takes........sorry, took........ a lot to fool her.

"He said that all of his speel casting days were well behind him, and he sadi that he did not even remember writing the book in question. I tried to jog his memory, describing some of he other spells to him, despite the look on Gaia's face as I spoke. I needed to know, and the pain of my dearest friend at hearing these things did not matter. I took her for granted. She said that she would support me, so I just forgot that she was a very sensitive person, kind, she was a cleric of Mishkail for the sake of the gods, but I took her presence for granted and forgot her pain. That was a big mistake, as I later came to realise.

"The mage said that he still didn't remember, but thought that there might be something down in his old laboratory in the basement that he had forgotten about that might be able to help me. I was eager to say the least, and set off down the stairs after him, wothout even a second thought for Gaia. I did not even realise she had come down with us until it was too late.

"The moment we got down there everything changed. The mage had his back turned towards us, was supposedly looking through some papers on a desk. I suddenly realised that for a lab that hadn't been used in a long time, as this was supposed to have been left vacant for years through the submission of the owner, it was surprisingly free of dust.

"It was then that I realised. The name of the mage on the book had been Morpheund, and I had thought that I had remembered that name from somewhere. It sounded so familiar, but I could not think where I had heard it before. When I saw the wizened old man that had met us at the door, it had gone from my mind.

"Yet while I stood in that 'un-used' laboratory, free from dust or any sign of neglect, it suddenly came to me. Morpheund had been one of the greatest black mages of all times, had almost rivaled Fistandantilus in his prowess in the evil arts. He had posed a great threat to Krynn, terrorising the entire land with his great power, until his master, Nuitari, decided that he had got above his station. he had stopped paying homage, had forgotten that he owed all of his powers to his God.

"So Nuitari had condemened Mopheund to a life as a recluse, until such time as he had learned who his master was. Once he had realised that, he would be once again able to threaten the rulership of krynn, all in the name of the black god of magic and his mother, Takhisis.

"Standing there, with the realisation of who this man was spinning around in my mind, I found that I was unable to move. Then the old man began to laugh. A deep, terrible, evil sound.

" 'Yes, that's right my dear Mirror, I am the Morpheund you remember. It is just a shame it has taken me this long to realise my mistakes. I am an old man now. But my Gods are nothing if not kind to those sheep who stray from the flock, but come back as soon as they realise that they owe everything to their master.'

"He turned around, and I saw a deep, rich glow around him, a blackness eminating from his very soul. As I watched the black seemed to shimmer, as if all colours, yet none swirled within it's depths. His eyes were wide and terrible to behold, his mouth contorted into an evil mockery of a smile as he began to chant words of magic I had nerver heard, let alone understood.

"It was then I regained the use of my legs. I turned to Gaia, and tried to push her out of the door, but it slammed shut before we reached there. I turned, faced him, and started to prepare my own spell, hoping that i would be able to couteract in some way, praying to any God that would listen to me. However, before I could finish my own spell, his hit me with full force.

"I was envelpoed with the same deadly aura that had surrounded Morpheund. I could not move, I could not speak. Within a few moments, I found that I could not breathe either. I gasped, gulped, but to no avail. I could feel the life essence, my very soul being torn from my body. I turned my eyes toward the mage, and saw his body start to change. His stoop straightened up, his grey hair started to turn back to it's former black lustre, he looked younger. He was draining me to feed himself, and there was nothing I could do.

"Although I fought him, I was loosing quickly. The world started to dissolve around me, and the last thing I remeber before the world dissapeared was the sound of Gaia screaming, and her hands grabbing my arm."

Mirror paused, and the listeners noticed that tears had sprung up in her strange, almond shaped eyes. The far away look was still printed across her face, and for a moment, it looked like she would not be able to continue................... Ray: It looks like a giant Jello mould!!

Wylin was stunned to silence and it was Hiaku who spoke. He was familiar with the art of Soul-stealing, as his former master enjoyed it so much. Wylin, still seemingly unable to speak, raised her hand to her breastbone and felt the black scar there, her own run-in with Zakuro's blade...

Hiaku made an odd sound in his throat and then rested his hand on Mirror's shoulder. "Don't torture yourself further... I think I can surmise the rest... By grabbing your arm, your friend disrupted the spell... Thus transferring it to herself." He said the edge of anger sharpening his voice. It seemed as though he was angered at Mirror, but this was not the case.. as Wylin well knew.

Hiaku had been greatly changed by his freedom from his former enslavement to the demon Zakuro Shijima. He was quick to anger, even quicker when one would harm another in a way that there was no real defense...

Ankh nodded. A slight ripple of anger surged through her body at the sound of the dark god's name, her eyes hardened. But it passed.

"Yes, listen to Hiaku. There is no need for you to work yourself into another collapse explaining what does not need to be said. You do not have to, but you have not explained your strange appearance in your tale." (http://images.quizilla.com/T/trinitykills/1053662988_z3thetwins.jpg" border="0)want it.

Hiaku shook his head and sighed. "I think I may know the answer to that as well... The spell had worked, and very nearly took Mirror's soul, her life to replenish the mage. Her friend disrupted it, but it would't give back what had already been stolen... to look upon her now is to look on what death missed, and what death already has."

His hands rested on Wylin's shoulders. "It is almost as if she is half in this world, half in the world of the spirits. Her life, the part of her soul stolen will not be returned till the mage is dead. Her freind's soul will also be freed with his death." Hiaku's gold eyes where dark with memory, as he had almost lost Wylin to such a fate.

"we'll help you.... I swear it." He said the anger evident in his voice.

OOC: damn Kalia, you're good!!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) If I'd known you'd come to that conclusion I'd never have bothered writing all that other stuff!!! :) :) :) :) :) Do you know how long that took me?!!!!!! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Mirror looked at Haiku, her mouth agape. "You are right my friend, that is what happened. Half of my soul belongs to the black mage in death, the other to me in life. As much as I try to fight him though, it is getting harder. Soon, I will not be able to fight him anymore, and he will have both of us! If we can destroy him, then I know it will bring Gaia back, and might even restore me to the person I once was.

"I don't know where to start though. I cannot find any trace of this Morpheund. When I came too, the laboratory was in ruins, and the mage had gone. I don't know where to, but he's gone. He is being kept safe by his God's I have no doubt, but he must be found and put a stop to. I came here hoping to find someone who would be able to help me track him down. Have any of you heard anything about him, or even anyhting about any strange goings on? Anyhting that might help?!" She asked, pleading. Ray: It looks like a giant Jello mould!!

You SOB, Nuitari......... Ankh thought, her hands clenching into fists behind her back and her body momentarily went translucent.

"Forgive that...i am cursed as well. Perhaps my story shall be shared later, or perhaps not." She shrugged, "I can help you mind Morpheund. Though my ways will not be pleasing to you all. I ask you to trust me, even after i find him. I daresay that that will not be so easy. Especially for you, Hiaku." "One of my friends might be able to find him, but I don't know if I can get ahold of him." The kender explained. "So, Gaia is... gone?"The sword, it thirsts to drink of man.
The sword, at last must win.
Today is gone, and yesterday,
Must echo in the wind.

Roku's mind was racing. Black robed mage! Could it be the one he had met at the lake! The one he had sworn loyalty to! Roku shook the thought off. He decided not to speak of it with the others.

"I know nothing of this matter. However, I will accompany you and assist you in your task. If you find this mage, it wont hurt to have a fighter by your side. Though I doubt I can do much damage to the mage himself, I can defend from anything tangeable. You see Mirror, I am a great martial arts fighter, one of the best in Krynn. I do not feel pain, having my sense of touch nulled. For the price of this gift, I do not know how to weild a weapon and am inable to learn. I've tried, but I just drop the weapon instantly." Roku explained to Mirror and the rest of the group.Detroit Pistons rock!

OOC~
I'll be going away this week. I might not have comp access. After that, i'll only be on on weekends. Kalia, from Fernwood, who knows Ankh, can use her. To her: Minoa once worked with Morpeheud. (http://images.quizilla.com/T/trinitykills/1053662988_z3thetwins.jpg" border="0)want it.
