The Orb of Solomon

Game Info: This particular game is set approximately two years from the Cataclysm, when the Kingpriest called down upon his city the wrath of the gods for his pride and arrogance. Everything prospers, including what some call wealth and power in the guise of good. No, for players, generally, Dragons shouldn’t be around, mainly because, well, they don’t come back until the War of the Lance, do they? Magic users are generally persecuted (so it’ll be fun to play one ^_^)

IC:

A hooded and cloaked figure walked alone upon the well-travelled road leading to the capital of Istar. There were people around him, yes - there were always people coming and going from Istar by the hundreds, but he travelled with none of them. The figure’s head was bent low, his hood covering his eyes from the sun. Constantly, the figure wondered, how am I going to do this?

Three hours of walking later, the hooded man came to one of the middle class Inn’s on the outskirts of the City Istar. Slowly, the person looked up. It was dark by now, and his face could not be seen. He read the name of the Inn quickly “Travellers Passpoint,” the figure said to himself, and then slowly nodded, reaching for the handle of the door.

The door opened with a soft click. The man walked slowly forward, toward the innkeep. Whenever the man moved, his steps seemed precise, almost lethal, but for the fact that people seemed to be more relaxed in his presence than normal. “Innkeep, I would like a table away from any lights - they hurt my eyes, sir . . . ” The man’s voice was soft and almost wheezy, as if he hadn’t used it for a while. The innkeep mistook him for an old man.

“O’course, sir, c’mon, back ‘ere should be good’un for ye.” Said the middle-aged innkeep, leading his customer to a table near the door that was for the most part, dark. A candle stood behind the table but not front, thus saving the man’s eyes. “Is there anything I can get ye, sir?”

“Yes. Co-cold ale, please.” The figured reached up with a smooth, delicate white hand and pulled his hood down from his head. The figure was as his hand was, very pale. His face was strong, though, with a determined look. The eyes were a piercing green, the kind that seems to bore through your soul and into your very being and thoughts. The man’s jaw and cheekbones were strong and pronounced, giving him a very dignified look. The eyes seemed to have some sort of cloud covering them, and people had never been known to be able to read his emotions. His hair was long, just past shoulder length, and brown in colour.

The strangest feature about the travelling man, however, was not his eyes, but it was near the mark. Beside both eyes, in between the eyes themselves and the temples of his head, each side bore a strange, archaic rune tattooed in black.

The innkeep came back a few moments later, holding a slightly dirty cup of ale. “I sorry, sir, we seem to be runnin’ outa dishwashers. Here ye go, sir, anythin’ else?”

“No. I’m fine,” The man responded. “And please, Innkeep.. Call me Lazarus,” Lazarus said, his voice becoming lower now that he had used it a few times. In addition, the good drink of cold ale he had was quite refreshing. Lazarus watched the Innkeep go to attend to other customers, and then relaxed himself into his soft chair.

“Mind if I sit down? Thanks.” Came a low, gruff voice from his side, and immediately a large man sat down opposite from Lazarus at the table.

“What is it?” Lazarus asked, but the man started talking immediately afterward, ignoring the traveller.

“You know there, Lazarus, was it? I believe I’ve heard that name before . . . Hey, boys, you heard that name before?” The man said to a table about 10 feet away, grinning. “I think I do know who you are there, pal. You have quite a lot of nerve showing yourself around here.. But then, your kind breaks the rules, don’t they, Lazarus Kain, renegade sorcerer?” The man sneered sadistically, saying the name loudly so that everyone within the Inn heard him. Lazarus’ body tensed.

“Get out of this Inn, and I won’t report your sorry hide to the Kingpriest . . . for a little while!” The man shouted. When Lazarus didn’t move, he simply grinned again, the same, sadistic grin.

“Well, then, off you go!” Reaching toward his belt, the large thug gripped hold of the handle of his sword, and slowly, deliberately drew it from its scabbard. The five other men at his table also stood up, but drew no weapons. The large man raised his hand and his sword into the air, then paused. “Goodbye!” He shouted, swinging down his sword toward’s the sorcerer’s neck.

Lazarus was standing up when the blow came for him. Acting upon instinct as only a sorcerer knows, He raised his hand with the palm pointed at the troublesome man. A burst of magical energy shook the area around the mage, while his hand sent out a glowing bolt of force energy toward the man in front of him. The thug’s eyes went wide as he flew 10 feet across the room and landed with a large thud upon the wooden floor.

“Wizard! Get ‘im!” The other five ran forward, toppling Lazarus over in his surprise. One of the blows glanced off his jaw, saving him a broken one, but others connected elsewhere. Lazarus reeled back onto the floor from the pain, clutching his ribs in a futile attempt to keep himself from harm. “Stop it! Stop!” Still the blows came, the five thugs kicking the wizard senseless upon the ground, the crack of bone sounding throughout the Inn.

“Help!”

OOC: I intend to make this a large adventure, and I hope you'll all join the ride with me. C'mon, it'll be fun ^_^"Hope is the denial of reality. It is the carrot dangled before the draft horse to keep him plodding along in a vain attempt to reach it." –Raistlin, Dragons of Autumn Twilight

"Alright you Ruffians! LAY OFF!!" Came a womans voice.

She pushed her way through and gave the lead antagonist a hard shove. "Not on my watch you dont! I dont' care what he done or what he didn't!" She had her hand on her sword.

Her sapphire eyes where as cold as chips of the stone they resembled. She had long blonde hair that was braided in a single plait that hung half way down her back. She wore the blue and gold uniform of the City Guard.

"Now, all of you out, before I decide to lock the lot of you in the clink for the night!" She snarled, her sword now halfway drawn. The group behind the leader all backed off, knowing well of the Guardwoman's rep. They quickly left the Tavern.

"You too Gunther...I mean it!" she hissed, as their eyes met, and the tension built. His eyes left hers and stared down at her half drawn sword, and muttered something under his breath and brushed past her. She watched him leave and even caught the glare of hatred in his eyes.

She knelt down beside Lazarus, her sword back within it's sheath. "I am Seargant Cindell Rand.....Though most of my officers call me Dell.....looks like that arm's broken....come on...Up with you."

She tossed a small puse on the counter towards the inkeep. "That should cover the damages Rimas....I'll take this from here.

"Come on, And might I suggest that you don't say your name till you leave this place?" She muttered as she lead him from the Tavern. She lead him down the street into a small home, a home that belonged to a cleric friend of hers....one that owed her a favor.

Lazarus leaned on Dell’s arm thankfully, his other arm hanging limb at his side. The magic user walked very, very slowly, limping his way toward the place the Sargent was leading him. Blood flecked the man’s pale and ashen lips, and he winced whenever he took a step. More than one time on the walk, Lazarus’ eyes folded back into his head for a moment while he nearly passed out. “Ribs... broken...” he managed to spit out, blood trickling down his chin. “Knife... got me... in... leg..” He offered the main reason for his limping.

For the first time, actually looking at Cindell, his green eyes pierced her soul and heart, diving into her core. She noticed out of the corner of her eye that the small tattoo’s on the side of his head glowed briefly and suddenly stopped. Lazarus looked away, his eyes wide, mouth open in silent horror. The man’s eyes seemed to be seeing something else, something not within this reality, not within this time. A whisper came from him, barely audible, “Dead... all dead...”

Lazarus, after the moment of looking into something else, swallowed hard, and closed his eyes for a moment. When the mage opened them, there was a firm resolve in them, an unshakable will. His jaw was set, he wiped the blood off of his mouth with the hood of his brown and tattered robe.

“A-are you taking me to the jail, M’lady?” Lazarus asked, keeping his pain under control. It was a common belief now among magic users that going into Istar and getting caught meant first Prison, and, if one was lucky, death. The Kingpriest strongly enforced laws against the use of magic - an impure form of magic. The only magic the Kingpriest believed in was Devine. Lazarus wanted to call the man a hypocrite. The Kingpriest’s advisor was Fistandantilus, Head of the Black Robes!

"Of course not..." She said softly... She never did care for the kingpriests Ideals...

"Keep this to yourself sorcerer....but my sister was burned to the death by that man....I only stay to help those like you..." She murmered softly as she led him into the quiet home.

"Maya? I've come to collect that favor!" She called as she eased Lazarus down into a chair. A young brunette ran down the stairs and stopped in open mouthed shock at the sight of the mage....she wore unadorned robes of a cleric of Mishakal.

"Cindell! What have you dragged out of the gutter this time?" She asked as she moved forward.

"Through no real fault of his own but his profession Maya....he didn't deserve the beating he got...none of them do..." Dell Hissed, her blue eyes cold.

"I'll help him....I never really understood His reasons....but then, neither has the Goddess...To think the Lady of Healing and Compassion would turn a person away just for the use of magic.... when one of the magical children is Her Son!" Maya was enraged, as she checked the damage, her hand straying to the silver medallion that hung from around her neck. A blue arua seemed to surround the young woman, and Dell Stepped back a pace.

"Holy Mishakal....heal this man of his wounds...inflicted through no fault of his own..." Maya whispered.

Dell watched this carefully, watched the look in Lazarus's eyes, and smiled...another day, another life spared.

Lazarus’ faced relaxed as the light of healing washed over his body, cleansing his wounds, sowing them with the needle of divine magic. The man very nearly smiled, and turned his head towards Maya, the Cleric of Mishakal. “Thank you...” He said quietly, his voice still cracking. He swallowed hard, washing the blood down his throat. “Is.. Is there any way I can repay you? I would have died back there.” Lazarus looked up.

As with what had happened with dell, the runes near his eyes glowed slightly, and his eyes widened. Quickly recovering himself and looking away from the Cleric, he put his hand to his head.

“I keep... seeing... things. Fire, water, ash.. Explosions... a storm. An ocean of blood...confound it! What is going on! Every future I’ve seen here is the same! I don’t understand!” Lazarus seemed lost, alone and frightened. He didn’t appear to be with the two other women anymore, his handsome face was looking around, his gaze completely passing Dell and Maya.

“The orb! Yes, the orb! That can save us! It will save us!... Dead.... all dead...” Lazarus was sitting up, rambling, a mad look on his face mingled with horror and fear.

OOC: Actually with Maya, wouldn't he see something of the Realm of the Gods, since all the True Clerics (which she obviously is) Went with their Gods before the catyclysm struck??

BIC: "Is he crazy??" Maya asked Dell, backing away. Cindell stared at Lazarus, her blue eyes thoughtful.

Slowly she shook her head. "No....I think he is actually seeing the future...and definitly not a good one...."

"I knew it! That damned fool will be the death of us all!" Maya spat, her delicate features twisted in anger.

Dell Layed a calming hand on Lazarus's shoulder. "Take it easy friend, what's this Orb you speak of?" She asked softly.

OOC: Your right, actually. Thanks for reminding me

Lazarus outwardly calmed himself, closing his eyes and whispering to himself in some odd, archaic language, the language of magic. After a few moments of the calm meditation, Lazarus raised his head to look at the two females. “The orb... the Orb of Solomon.”

Lightning crackled outside the house with a loud bang, a streak of bluish light forked down from the sky into the middle of the street, scorching stone tiles that lay there. Rain began to fall steadily, the sound almost calming to the ears.

“It’s a magical artifact, created by the forgotten gods long, long ago. And yes, there were, once, other gods...” Lazarus said, ending his last remark by glancing at the Cleric of Mishakal, expecting a rebuke. “It was said to... to have great magical power. When the Forgotten Ones disappeared, it was believed that their souls, their power, was absorbed by the Orb of Solomon... as well as their wisdom.”

“I believe my cursed eyes have seen the future... everyone I have seen, but you, Cleric of Mishakal, meets an end in fire and blood... I do not understand it. Do the gods favour only their clerics, and seek to end the lives of all who do not actively do their bidding? I do not know if this will come to pass... But I have seen it.. I do not know the circumstances! Damn it all!” Lazarus stood up from the couch he had lain in to be healed, and began pacing the room.

“You probably think I am mad. No one can see the future, no one can change it... least of all some blasphemous sorcerer like myself! But the orb... if the stories are true, that means that the Orb of Solomon contains the power of more than a god, gods! If... if whatever is to happen, whether the destruction is wrought by man or God, the Orb may be able to stop it... But it is only a legend! I am going mad!”

The wizard sunk down into a chair and put his hand to his head, covering his eyes. “I don’t know what to do...” He whispered to himself, not expecting anyone to hear him.

I think i'll make her rather stubborn, but not too bad. Not as bad as teh Syr from Return to Adventure, but not nessacerily open.

Dell stood up, still deep in thought. "well, Lazarus....we'll have to find this orb...maybe we can try to avert this disaster..." She said slowly, her eyes slowly brightening at the thought of such an adventure.

"Well...where do we start??" She asked, now full of energy.

Maya looked at her as though she had gone mad.

"Are you crazy? What of the mages here who will get them out now?" She asked, eyeing her friend.

Cindell skoffed. "well Maya, if we dont' stop what is happening here, it will all be pointless anyway wont it?"

Maya could see Dell's logic and sat back resigned. "well I still don't like it...." She mumbled.

"We'll leave in the morning...." Dell stated firmly.

OOC: No, it's not a doomed thread, don't worry :) Any ideas on how I can get people to come around here? I don't wanna spam, but a couple more players might be useful :)

“I Believe.... I think we should start in the Istarian mountains. It is rumoured that the Orb was created upon the highest peak, closest to the gods - and the top of the Istarian mountains would seem like a likely place, right?” Lazarus sighed, looking around the room, when his eyes looked to both Dell and Maya.

“I can’t thank you enough for your help. It proves to me that not all of mankind has been corrupted by their pockets just yet, it gives me a reason to go and find this Orb, whereas I might have let all of them perish...”

“Tell me, though... do you have many maps of the surrounding area? They might prove useful on our trek up the mountain. I have a feeling more people than I know about what is going to happen - and may not want it to stop, and so some may seek to stop us... My Lord! Three weeks ago I was simply trying to hide from the Conclave, now we are given a mission from some unknown force, to help save us from whatever is going to happen! I swear, by the end of all this, If I’m not dead, I’m going to be insane.”

BIC:A Kender walked along a very long street and seemed to pick up many things. "I didn't do it!' The kender screamed as a guard chased him down the road. The kender had a robe in his hand. The guard was not fast enough to keep up with the kender but, the kender was getting tired, so he saw a door and through it open and went inside.

He looked around and saw three people talking, but without a word he ran around picking up many things while looking for a place to hide.

Dell spun at the sound of the door slamming open, her hand on her sword. She spotted the kender picking something up off the table near the door and then scurry up the stairs.

"HEY!" She shouted, and darted after him while Maya hastily looked out the door.

"Blesssed Mishakal! Lazarus! Hide!!" She cried as she saw the other guard making his way to her home.

Dell ran up the stairs, and quickly found the kender. "What in the name of the Gods are you doing!?" She cried, angered. She reached out and caught him by the collar.

“By the gods!” Lazarus stood up immediately at Maya’s words and began to chant, his cloak flowing about in an unnatural breeze, he spoke softly, “Shiam shi ak nai inves caporum..” Lazarus reached into another pouch quickly and threw something that can’t be seen over himself, and instantly, the sorcerer vanished from sight.

Invisible, Lazarus crept from his point sitting on the couch to stand over in a corner relatively near the door, preparing a sleep spell so that he would have it on his lips should he need it. “My, this isn’t an eventful night, is it?” Lazarus thought to himself, his heart beating faster than normal and his breath coming in quick gasps. He was slowly being drained of his magic. He needed rest.

There was a voice in Dell’s head - Don’t let him find the kender. It saw me."Hope is the denial of reality. It is the carrot dangled before the draft horse to keep him plodding along in a vain attempt to reach it." –Raistlin, Dragons of Autumn Twilight

Dell was startled by the sudden voice in her mind and she nearly lost her grip on the Kender.

Um...don't worry....who'd belive a kender over the seargent of the guard and a High Cleric of Mishakal? She thought back quickly, wondering if she shared some of her sister's gift.

"Come on, downstairs with you...." She growled and dragged the Kender with her.

Maya greeted the Guard as he reached the door. "Thank Mishakal....Where you chasing that kender? Don't worry, Seargent Rand was visiting me.... I'm sure she can take care of this...." She smiled and the guard found himself caught by her smile.

The Guard smiled at Maya dumbly, and nodded slowly. “Thank you, miss. I believe Sargent Rand is quite capable, as you say.. Have... have a good night, Revered Daughter.” He said, and turned on his heal. “Just make sure whatever he stole is put back... the prisons are full tonight, we don’t have enough room for anymore kender.” The Guard smiled again, and walked down the stairs from the house and onto the street, going back to his patrol route happily.

“Thank the gods...” Whispered Lazarus, becoming visible after the Guard had left. “That’s another debt I owe you, Revered Daughter, and Mistress Rand...”

Bringing himself away from the wall he had hidden against, Lazarus stood by the stairs, watching Dell drag the kender down the stairs.

“What is your name, Sir Kender?” He asked politely but with a firm note in his voice, indicating that he didn’t want any wild stories at the moment."Hope is the denial of reality. BIC: Everywhere he walked he got glares. There where few inns that would let him enter for a drink, and most of those where dives in the lesser part of town. As he walked down the coblestone road his hooves beat rythmicly upon them. All of a sudden he heard a voice yell cruelly at him, "HEY COW! Get out of hear we don't take to kindly to you're kind in this part of town! No get before I call the gards and have you arrested for trespassign on a Nobles property!" Turning down the next street he headed away from the voice. With the still yelling noble's voice fadding in the background. He headed for his favorite tavern. One where they didn't care that he was a minotaur, they knew he worshipped Kiri-Jolith and that he was not evil as the Kingpriest claimed his kind was.

Entering the Tavern he noticed that a new sign had been put up. I had a picture of a green lizard like creature. Underneath it read "The Green Newt Inn." sighing he entered. "I wonder how much Remy spent on that?" he thought to himeself.

"Ho Kalkerzec", a voice cried from behind the bar. "Did you see my new sign?"

"It's very nice Remy. Are my friends here yet?" replied Kalk.

"No but I expect they'll be around shortly. Why don't you have a seat and I'll bring you some Ale. I believe it's been a long day for you, hasn't it son?"

"Aye it has, and I thank you Remy, I shall be at my regular table."

With that he turned and walked towards the back of the common room to his regualr seat at the back. For some reason the room's celing sloped up towards the back giving his 6'5" body room to manuver is need be. setting is halfmooned battle axe down beside him he soon became lost in thought. He did not notice that his ale had come until Remy cleared his throught politly. Takeing that ale thankfuly Kalk took a sip. It was good, very good some of Remy's best in fact. Kalk smiled weakly to himself.

Now some would wonder why anyone would take such little heed of their wepon as Kalk seemed to be doing. Yet Kalk knew that even if someone took the axe it would always return to him whenever he willed. For the wepon was the Magical "Honors Face", the wepon of his ancestor the great Kazagnathi who was said to have fought beside Sir. Huma himself and even ridden into battle on a dragon of good. No he was not worried about his axe. the Axe had been passed down through the generations from father to sun or to daughter until finally it came to him, Kalkerzec, the direct dicendent of the great Kaz himself. “Uh..” Lazarus was at a loss for words as he looked at the white-robed mage. His lungs constricted painfully, and he found it hard to breath. His eyes were wide, staring at the elf, and his jaw was slack. “You... you... You’re not here to take me, are you?” Lazarus asked, his voice weak and strained. The sorcerer swallowed hard, wrapping his brown and tattered robes around him. He was a known renegade, and did not want to ally himself to a single robe - he felt it was limiting, and the fact that they forced one to do it, wasn’t helping.

“Because... I... I won’t let you. I have something to do, and I can’t be stopped! Not by you, not by the Gods!... so please, don’t..” Lazarus tried to look cold at the magic user, but he found he could not. He was too weak, and his knee’s were failing underneath him. He had already expended much of his energy getting to Istar already. “I’ve never done anything to interfere with your order!” Lazarus was getting desperate now. He had been running from those who would catch him for five years, and they had not let up. He didn’t think he had the power to stop another attack on him right now.

Cindell was startled enough that she let go of the Kender's collar. She stared in shock at the elf maid in the white robe....seemingly a mage.

"Well...this night is definitly full of surprises....maybe I should've stayed in bed." She sighed, and walked forward.

"relax Lazarus....If she wanted to do so, she probably would have done it already....plus, my sister was a mage...I'm sure i'm not without my own power...." She said this a little questioningly.

She knew she had some power...she just never used it, and instead strengthened her arm, not her skill....she felt she could better help fellow mages by a sword than by the spell....

"well then...Where do you suggest we look Syr?" Dell asked calmly.

"Im Cindell Rand, Seargent of the city guard...You can Call me "Dell" This is Maya...."

Syr looked at Lazarus that clearly showed every speck of inferority she held for the human.

"Like Miss Rand said, if I wanted to report you to the Conclave, I wouldnt have bothered introducing myself. Besides, i'm not all fond of them myself."

She considered this for a second and corrected herself. "I am a White Robe by all standards...except they are forbidden from polymorphing. However, all of them are completely unknown of the fact that half the time i am a dove. I also sometimes know that on occasion, rules must be broken. For the good of the city, of course."

She glanced at Dell. "Tarsis, the beautiful seaport." (OOC: it's wierd thinking where to look before the catacylsm). "There's been rumors of magical items flying around there. Lazarus face was relieved of it’s tension when the White Robe announced that she was not here to capture him and take him to the conclave. He heard the kender sit in a chair near him, but did not take much notice. “I am willing to leave Istar, if that is what must be done. Magic users are generally not as persecuted as they are here, in Tarsis. It may be a good idea... Information might be easier to find, as well.”

“I can get us to Tarsis, If only I can get a good night’s rest... I will, of course, need your help, Syr. There are too many for me to transport just by myself. I hope you are willing. I merely need your additional energies...” Lazarus said, looking up at the elf mage. “Are the rest of you willing to come along?” The sorcerer glanced around, at Dell, Maya, and even the unnamed kender sitting in the chair beside him, attempting to read the spellbook.

Dell nodded. "Of course...." She said, her arms folded across her chest. Maya however shook her head.

"Oh no...no me....besides if I leave who will help the mages that are still here in Istar? I'm staying here....." She paused and looked at Dell and tears shimmered in her eyes.

"Becareful out there Dell....." She hesitated for a moment then crossed the room to her friend. Silently she undid the clasp of the silver chain that hung around her neck. The medallion was warm to the touch, and had a deep blue crystal at its center.

"Take this...it will help you as I cannot...." She said softly, slipping it around Dell's neck, and fixing the clasp.

"You are right Dell, you do have certain powers....wether they are Magi or God given, I am unsure...but I know that Mishakal will answer your prayers should you ask for help.

Dell held the silver medallion in her hand, her eyes depening in color, reflecting the stone. Her eyes misted over for a moment, and she blinked rapidly, and she hugged her friend.

"Thank you Maya....Take care of yourself okay?" She said softly.

As he flipped through the pages he couldn't understand what the words meant. He looked up and saw that the group seemed to be getting ready for an adventure. He stood up and said his name, "Deamus, thats my name. And I'm here for an adventure." He put in a very big smile.

This adventure would be his first. He started to jump up and down at the thought of all that could happen. "So where are we heading?" He looked around the group with an eager face.

Back at the inn several imposing figures entured the inn. Greating them with the same cheerfulness he did Kalk, Remy Eagerly directs them towards Kalk. It is a strange bunch yet they seemed to belong together. 3 weatherbeaten yet vicious looking humans, a stout dwarf, another minotaur and a kender. They were the Rementaurs. A group of of treasure hunters/ mercs. Standing and smilling at the group of which he belonged, Kalk quickly goined them in the secret handshake not incommon these type of bands. And with that the meeting began.

"Anyone with any news?" one of the stern humans began. He was the unquestioned leader. Battle seasoned with many scares on his face he led the group well and brought them good profit.

"I do!" piped the kender. He was known simply as Tro. No one knew his real name no one cared. "I was gazing at an expensive looking dagger that I seemed to have found." He paused for a moment at he watched the eyes of his companions rolled around in there socets. "Anyways. I overheard some guards talking. They said soemthing about an orb. Apparently this orb is very valuable. The Kingpriest himself is willing to pay vast amounts for this orb of... of...Solomoon?...of Salamint, no that wasn't it. Solomon thats it Solomon."

Thinking for a sec the other minotaur said, "I've also heard of this Orb of Solomon. It has been said to have magical powers. That would probly be the reason the Kingpriest is willing to pay so much for it. Last I heard some crazed mage had it somewhere down by Icwall. If you ask me it sounds like a wild goose chace to me."

"Now now Gart, this sounds like a reasonable investment." mused Triton, the leader. " Although I don't think we should send many of us. I don't want all of us running after some orb we don't even knows exists."

"I will go. Alone." stated Kalk all of a sudden. "I need to get out of this place. I'm starting to go blind from all this white. Besides I'm your best man, if anyone can find it I can." With that decided the meeting resumed but Kalk didn't hear a word of what was said. Mentally he was going over in his mind what supplies he would need, and where he would start to look. I'll go to Tarsis and see what information I can find there. Thinking hos plan sounded sound he got up with the others at the end of the meeting and left the still half empty common room and whent to find supplies for his long journey.

But thats not what cought his eye. For then he saw the kender, and he had what looked like a spellbook! There's only one thing worse than a kender, a kender with a spellbook. You never know if infact he canread it. Along with Honors Face Kalk also poses a number of other wepons. Drawing a consealed dagger from the top of his boot he dashed off towards the kender. WIth one hand on the dagger (and holding the minotaur rather well for an elf of her size and stature) and the other in her pouches, she looked at the others.

Moving very slowly, Kalk let go of the kenders hair. With his hands in the air he slowly turned around. Being very careful with his movements, for he knew the tales of mages and there power. Then using his finly tuned body with all his agility and will power he summond his Axe to his hand. with one fluid motion he spun the axe around and hit the mage with the but end of the handle. knocking the mage unconcious with that motion he quickly turned to the other who had seemingly disaapeared into the shadows. Finding him however he pressed the blade of dagger (which he never did drop) to the mages throught. With out even thinking he swung the axe around until it faced the guard who he expected to run at him.

"Don't even think about it mage," he spat. "One word and you will never see the sun again. You guard! tell u'r other mage friend there to back down or els," he said this even as Syr. was bigging to stir and struggle to rise."Never Defend, Never Surrender" - Lyim Rhistadt

"I...." Lazarus stopped, the dagger pressed to his throat, unmoving. He closed his eyes slowly, and then opened them, glaring with intense annoyance at the Minotaur. The green eyes pierced his soul - the runes near his temples glowed slightly, showing him enigmatically the future of this minotaur.

"It would not be wise, Sir Minotaur, to do this.. Rethink what you are doing. You cannot possibly know the consequences. Why do you even come here, into the home of a Cleric of Mishakal, attacking? I know you do not intend to kill us, otherwise you would have killed my Elven aquetance over there. Now, please, put down the dagger, before I am forced to send it, and you, to the Abyss."

Lazarus' look was cold, his energy revitalized, and his muscles tensed. Glaring at the minotaur one last time, Lazarus slid slowly out form underneath the dagger's edge. When the giant of a beast attempted to stop him, Kalk found that he could not move. Only his eyes could move, but his hand, his fingers, his entire body seemed numb and far away.

"It is fine, for the moment, Mistress Cordell. The minotaur cannot move, however, I don't think his actions were initially hostile towards us when he came in... Should I allow him to talk?" Lazarus asked, while striding towards the Elven mage strewn upon the floor, eyes shut and a bruise forming on the woman's head.

'Likely I'll only get an "inferior speech' after I bring her back to consciousness... I really grow tired of this.' Lazarus mused to himself, putting his hand gently upon the Elf's face, a soft glow of magic flowing into her. Syr's eyes opened only a moment later, consciousness had come back to her.

Syr's eyes fluttered several times before her vision returned to her. There were two brown robed mages....no, one. She put a hand to her forehead and shook her head several times. Getting up, she dusted her robes (Brand new!) off. and stood up.

"Stupid cow, brand new robes too." She mumbled and looked at Lazarus.

"Thank you, Lazarus. " She said and bowed slightly. She glanced at the Minotaur. "Silent spells? That's rather impressive, for a human."

Dell had her hand on her sword the entire time, the medallion that now hung around her neck glowed with a soft, warm light. She watched the proceedings carefully then, felling slightly foolish, lowered her hand away from the hilt of her blade.

"Let him speak..." She said softly.

Maya, on the other hand, was quite upset. "Stupid creature!! How dare you barge into my home!!" She cried, her eyes dark with anger.

"Peace Revered Daughter...." Dell Calmed, her hand resting on Maya's shoulder. Maya huffed and pulled away, to sit down in the chair that Dell had occupied till just a few moments ago.

"As I was saying let him speak..." Dell Repeated, as the light from the medallion flashed bright for a moment, and the minotaur now realized he could speak.

Dell did realize what she had done....purely instinct....untapped magical ability would such things......she didn't catch the looks of shock, and puzzlement....she thought one of the others had released him.

"what are you doing here?" Dell asked the minotaur, her blue eyes cool as ice.

“Very well -- ” Lazarus looked around the room, and at everyone, including the Kender. “I believe that in finding this, we need all the help we can get, even if it is - unusual.” Lazarus glanced at the kender again, and continued speaking, “Who’s to know what we will need?” He sighed, his eyes passing over Dell in curiosity, not having noticed what she had done to free the Minotaur earlier. He noticed now, however, but only gave it a fleeting thought.

“I believe, however, when we leave, we should split up. All of you should stay together - I must go elsewhere. I cannot tell you, because there are people after me. I would be a liability to you all, and we cannot afford liabilities. I can send you to Tarsis, with the help of our robed friend -” Lazarus waved his hand to Syr politely, and continued, “And you could continue from there. If it's all right with you guys, i'm gonna skip it to morning.

Each of you find your respective places to sleep, and attempt to make a good night's rest (or whatever you wish to do that night).

When the first rays of the sun wash over the Empire of Istar, the Heroes awake, ready to depart upon an adventure that may well involve the salvation of Istar. The meeting was to be set at Maya's home, as that's where everyone had in common.

When Lazarus awakes, he quickly finds Syr and asks for help in preparing the teleportation device that will help the group get to Tarsis, and before the actual preperation, he tells everyone to be there, ready to go if they intend to.

"Syr. I need your energy to make this ring. It will get you to Tarsis, and anywhere else only three times, no more. You must use it wisely - know that if you intend to go to the Abyss, I cannot find you there." Lazarus chuckled nervously, bringing out minor spell components and a silver ring and laying it upon the table.

"The ring is ready for enchantment. Now all we need is our combined energies, and you may leave for Tarsis.""Hope is the denial of reality. It is the carrot dangled before the draft horse to keep him plodding along in a vain attempt to reach it." –Raistlin, Dragons of Autumn Twilight
