Leila sat on the rock, the panpipes in her hands. The notes she played were discordant and out of tune. It was not long before another dryad came to investigate the cause of the terrible sounds.

“Sister, what plagues you so that you sit on a rock and fill the air with such cacophonous sounds”. Leila lowered the panpipes and stared mournfully at her sister dryad.

“I am bored out of my skull!” she cried out in great distress. “I hate the winter season. There is never enough sun and cold chills my bones”.

“But it will soon be spring”, her sister said wisely.

“The wait still kills me”. Leila looked about her. The winter wonderland seemed to run forever. “I will leave the forest and seek an adventure in the market towns of men. I refuse to sit here and wait for the snow to thaw,” she snapped.

“Do what you will” said her sister. “Otherwise you will drive us all to distraction with those wretched panpipes of yours!”. Leila grinned. When she put her mind to it, the notes from her panpipes could lull even the most fearsome creature. She even knew what disguise she would take on. A bard, she thought. I will venture into the outside world as a bard.
She feared no danger, for she knew no sin.
Doomed to death, though fated not to die.
Panting and pensive now she ranged alone,
And wandered in the kingdoms once her own.

The market place was humming with life. Strange noises and smells filled her senses. The dryad picked her way through the crowd. She had disguised herself in the habit of a boy. She had discarded her panpipes for a small minstrel, which now lay slung over her back.

Leila soon found a deserted spot by the old wishing well, and decided to watch the goings on from the vantage point.
“You there, bard!” a merry woman called out to her. “Aren’t you going to play?” Leila doubted if her music would be heard above the din of the crowd, but she was in such good spirits that she swung round the minstrel and began to strum a few notes. Soon she was happily playing away, her music drifting and mingling with the noises of the boisterous mark place.
She feared no danger, for she knew no sin.

Gobi ran through the streets of the city. He was a kender of course and was running from a patrol man.

" Get back here you thief!" The man yelled at the kender as he chased him for miles.

" Its mine i tell you! MINE!" Gobi kept running until he got into the marketplace. He grabbed a loaf of bread from a cart and started eating it. He heard the boy playing the music and ran towards him. He scurried behind the boy.

" Shhhh." Gobi whispered into the boys ear.

" Keep playing!" Gobi said patting the boy on the back. The kender sighed, seeing he lost the guard. He took the stolen dagger out of his pocket.

" Wow! It's nices than i thought!" Gobi said staring at the golden hilt with wonder.

" Im Gobi! Who might you be?" The kender said coming out from behind the boy. Gobi extended his small hand.If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

She stopped playing and stared at the little man standing in front of her, clutching the knife so proudly. She had heard about Kenders. Had even met a few in her travels, including one who had said he had made a mistake, and had to get back so that he could go to Caramon’s funeral, and had quickly vanished before her eyes. In her mind, Kenders were trouble, but fun!

“My name is Leilan Sandarac”, said Leila with a mischievous grin. She shook his hand, pleased to find that it was smaller than her own was. Usually she was the smallest thing around, except for mice and gully dwarves.

Quick blue eyes darted to the men who were gaining on the kinder. This one seemed to be just as prone to get into trouble as all the other Kenders she had met. Leila quickly began to play a few notes of tune. She imbued the notes with magic, taming the angry men, soothing their spirit, slowing their legs.

“Hurry” she said as she jumped to her feet. “It won’t last long”. Taking the kender by the shoulder, she urged him to follow her into the crowd. “It will be harder for them to follow. More pockets there”, she said, thinking this might encourage him…. what was his name again? “Gobi”, she said, remembering. “Come on!”
She feared no danger, for she knew no sin.

" Odd. Your name sounds awefully feminine, yet you are a boy. Arent you? Well, i guess secrets can stay secrets if you'd like. I know this nice inn nearby, great food, and all for free! I think....." Gobi scratched his chin, remembering all the wine bottles and cheese that luckily came to him in that inn. "Im just a lucky person!" he would always tell himself.

" Follow my footsteps!" Gobi held the boys hand and ran through the crowd. He got to the door of the Drunken Gnome Inn. He opened it and walked in. Sounds filled the air. The inn was packed! One small table was left in the corner.

" Hurry!" Gobi hollered to Leilan as he charged towards the last table. Their was a dwarf heading for it too. Gobi jumped onto the dwarfs back and pulled the dwarfs shirt over his eyes. The kender then dashed towards the table. When the dwarf recovered, he didnt even know the little bugger did it! Gobi laughed to himself. “Well done, Gobi” said Leila, lounging back and enjoying her seat. “Now” she said, her snub little nose twitching with delight, as she fixed the little Kender on the spot with eyes that were as blue as cobalt and as mesmerizing as those of any courtesan, “what mischief made those guards give chase after you? She imagined all sorts”. She feared no danger, for she knew no sin.

Miaka turned at the sudden noise....she exchanged glances with the small dragon-like creature on her shoulder. The small scaled and feathered gold dragon nodded, and Miaka stood. about fourteen human standard years, she was small, lithe and very pretty. She had dark gold hair that fell well past her shoulders and dazzling green eyes. She wore a simple white tunic and dark tan leggings...her boots reached her knees and where well-fitted. She turned and her blue cloak swirled around her.

She was looking for a certain kender that had taken something very precious from her, a ring, made entirely out of cut sapphire. She looked at Valefore and he winked at her. without saying a word, she ran down the street. When she rounded the corner she stopped, at a loss for where they went.

The little dragon whispered something in Miaka's ear and she turned, and saw the two slip into the Inn. "Well...here goes nothing" She muttered and ran towards the inn. Once inside, She stood there for a moment, blinking, for the Inn was dimly lit compared to the bright sunlight outside.See it’s me, I’m the one

Her eyes were constantly roving. She knew that she had precious little time to explore, before the call of spring had her returning to the forest. She wanted to see, hear, and taste as much as possible of this new and exciting life. Leila’s eyes immediately caught and held on the figure of the girl as she entered the inn, the small dragon by her side. Her head tilted to one side. Cobalt blue fixed on the newcomer. She nudged the kender by her side.

“Do you know her?” the dryad asked inquisitively.

Miaka frowned, still unable to see clearly in the darkness. She lifted her right shoulder a bit, the one where the dragon was perched. The little fey dragon looked at her, then flew up into the rafters, quickly lost in the dark shadows. A bit self-conciously, Miaka adjusted the silver sirclet on her forhead...it's dark blue gem centered on her forhead.

Straight and a bit to your right...watch out for that table! Valefor whispered softly in her mind as she stumbled and fell into the table, knocking the drinks to the floor.

The two patrons at the table cried out and jumped to their feet, the burly one reached down and grabbed Miaka by the front of her tunic. "Watch where you're goin' you brat!" He rumbled, his hand raised. Instanly the tiny gold dragon dived down from the rafters, making mock attacks, hissing and screeching. (Valefor's cries and roars sound similar to a Velociraptor)

The man yelled out and dropped Miaka, who yelped in pain as she hit the floor hard.

"Stupid!" She hissed in pain, mostly to herself than the Oaf that was fending off Valefor.See it’s me, I’m the one

Leila's eyes widened in surprise as she watched the dragon attack. She danced over the table and withdrew her lute. She took in a breadth and played the first soft notes of a well-known tavern song. However, it was not the music that lulled the crowd, and the angry men and the fighting dragon, but the spell that was embed into the gentle music. She feared no danger, for she knew no sin.

" Well Leila, mischief is not what i would call it. I found this beautiful knife lying on the floor of a temple. Doesnt it have the most beautiful hilt?!" Gobi said in excitement. He was interrupted by the music.

" Oh there you go again with that flute of yours!" Gobi squeaked shaking his head in annoyance.

" Its only a baby dragon, let them fight, this is entertaining Leila!" Gobi yelled in dissapointment, realizing her music stopped the little fight. If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

OOC: Actually, Valefor isn't a baby, he's full grown...he's a fey dragon, gold scales and gold feathered wings

BIC: Miaka heard the sound of the flute....and watched as the burly man turned away from her, and Valefor returned to her shoulder, his wings tangling in her hair. She turned, the birthmark that was concealed by the sapphire on her circlet tingled with a presence that was unknown to her. She saw the youth with the flute, and her eyes narrowed.

"HEY!" She shouted when she saw the kender, and recognized him.See it’s me, I’m the one

Leila lowered her flute, contented to have ended the fight. She shook her head at the kender’s words. She was not that bloodthirsty. Even though her lifespan had run the same length as the most ancient dragon of Krynn, Leila persisted in seeing the world in black and white. It was possibly something in her genes, but there it was. The time has come, the Walrus said, to speak of many things.
Of Ships and shoes and sealing wax.
Of Cabbages and Kings.
