Rowena sat by the fireside and allowed the sounds of the inn to surround her, to wash over her and fill the numbness in her soul. To one side a group of young revelers were laughing and sporting with the tavern wench. An old man sat in one corner smoking a pipe and still more people were entering, the door to the inn was constantly opening and closing as new arrivals entered the inn.

She knew that this was what she needed, what she craved. The noise of the people talking and laughing, the warmth of the fire. The constant hum of voices and the clink of glass. Life she thought. This was what she craved. Life. Humanity.

Cold eyes stared into the fire as she remembered. She had stepped out of the cottage for only a moment. A moment to collect the firewood for her grandmother and that was all it had taken. A kiss in the dark and her humanity was taken from her. Without thought, cold fingers reached to the tiny puncture wounds on her neck. They were still fresh, even though the incident had taken place many nights ago.

Her grandmother had known straight away what had happened. She had the sight. She had known. Her words still echoed in Rowena’s ears.
“You’ll have to find it and kill it. It is the only way. Hunt it down and destroy it before you are driven to kill yourself. Otherwise you will become one yourself”. Even now, she could feel the bloodlust crying in her veins. Singing. Hunger.

She feared no danger, for she knew no sin.
Doomed to death, though fated not to die.
Panting and pensive now she ranged alone,
And wandered in the kingdoms once her own.

OOC: what's a Vampire thread without the famous Half-Vampire hunter, Ayeka Drache?? hehe

BIC: Ayeka had entered the Inn...Her twilight colored eyes partially hidden by wild golden hair, and the hood of her cloak. The white wolf at her side whined softly. She had heard that there was sitings of the "Cursed Ones" in this town, and she meant to find them, and bring them to the deaths they so justly deserved.

Alright Jennah...I'll see what I can get you Ayeka sent back to the wolf. Jennah Shifted her mis-matched Blue-green eyes to the fireside, and whined, and slipped away from Ayeka. Ayeka watched her friend with a bit of apprehension...she shook her head, and headed for the bar, knowing all too well that if there was to be trouble, Jennah would warn her well in advance.

"I'd like a mug of ale, a bowl of whatever stew you're serving, and a bowl of meat scraps, and bones....no bird bones." She said, and slipped a trio of steel coins across the counter. She watched Jennah closely as the wolf moved towards the fire.

Jennah Moved next to the young woman who was sitting there. Ayeka's eyes sharpened in their intenity of her stare. The wolf whined softly, and nudged the woman's arm.

She smells of the cursed....but she is not turned....yet.... Jenna sent to her mistress with a hint of worry behind it.

Thank you friend, Keep near her.... Ayeka sent back as the barmaid brought back what Ayeka had asked for.We dare to ask for more

Jalen walked through the inn door with a proud stance. He bore the symbol of a knight of the rose on his breast plate. A hilt hung at his side, holding a large, steel, two-handed sword. The hilt was gold and resembled a griffin.

Jalen drew lots of attention in the inn. His black leather boots slammed against the wooden floor with each step. He held his helmet in his arms and let his long black hair flow. He had a long black mustache.

He saw the woman and the wolf by the fire. Jalen walked over and took a mans mug of ale on the way. The man did not argue but just looked the other direction. When Jalen got to the woman, he plopped himself in a chair by the fire and looked at the wolf strangly.

"Maybe you should leave your little "DOG" outside next time." Jalen said in disgust. He took a gulp of the ale and looked into the warm fire.If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

Jennah Growled softly, her lips twitching, but not revealing her teeth. Humans!! came the indignant mental retort. Ayeka nearly choked on her ale. She walked over to the the small little group, her hand resting on Jennah's scruff.

"Vyusher'Enedra, nos nes Kiornth oranan So'trekoth Yuthi'so'coro" (basically, Wolf-Sister, it is bad manners even for one so foolish....treat him as you would myself...) She Murmmered softly into the large wolf's ear. Jennah snorted, and accepted the bowl with a baleful glance at the man.

"Jennah is with me...not this girl. I ask you to be a little more respectful to those around you sir....you never know just what you are dealing with." Ayeka said softly, her gaze drawn by the girl.We dare to ask for more

Stephan was sitting at the table, somewhat away from the woman and her wolf. He didn't like the tone or words the man directed at her. His dark hair and violet eyes, a stunning contrast on the hardend face....hardend before its time. His eyes had witnessed too much in their realitivly short life so far. A wooden quaterstaff, shodded with steel at either end, balanced oddly against the table.

His mug drifted to his hand, though he moved not a finger. A thin white scar marred his face down the left hand side. He brought the ale to his lips, took a swallow, and set it down. He stood up and wandered over to the woman. Taking a seat and pulling it close to her. "Excuse my curiousity mam, but how do you keep such an animal tame...a beauty that it is, but still...??"

On the wings of heaven does my spirit soar high,
Under the ocean does my heart swim free,
In the bones of the earth does my mind lie secure,
And in the pit of fire....my passion burns forever.

The heat of the blazing fire that danced before her eyes was as nothing when compared to the heat of the humans that seemed to be drawn to the inn.

She could almost hear the blood that sang through their veins. Taste their heat on her pale bloodless lips. Their heartbeats were like loud drums that exploded like thunder in her ears.

Somewhere inside her- the animal strained at the leash, clawing, fighting, trying to surface but she held it back. Her hands were fisted tight, her nails digging into her palms. Her teeth clamped together. Droplets of red tinted sweat formed on her brow. Her body was as rigid as steel. The internal struggle had begun once more.

Her eyes began to cloud with smoke. No, she thought. Not now! Not here! She had stayed but a moment but even that was being denied her. She feared no danger, for she knew no sin.
Doomed to death, though fated not to die.
Panting and pensive now she ranged alone,
And wandered in the kingdoms once her own.

Melean sat in a corner of the room, feeling broken. I have wandered this land for so many moons, hunted and been hunted by every beast. I have faced fire and torrents and blizards. But amongst my own kind, I am exile... few friends to name and no woman waiting for me in my home... none that have even noticed me. His eyes fell on the two women, two men, and the wolf sitting near the fireplace. Any of those people would do... what I wouldn't give to be in that circle....

Then he noticed one of the women seem to waver slightly, the younger one. She had been there for a long time, perhaps she was tired...? Then Melean saw her shouler and neck tense slightly, impreceptable to anyone but those behind her. He reached for his dagger and pushed his chair back... something was about to happen."Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

OOC: I don't think that Darkmaster said that his char was a mage, and sorry, this is nothing personal...but your character deserves it.

BIC: Ayeka was about to reply to the young man with Violet eyes, when Jennah snarled, her jaws snapped closed on Jalen's hand, her mismatched eyes glaring with fury.

"Li'sa'eer!!" Ayeka cried, her hands immediatly tightened on Jennah's scruff. "Vyusher'Enedra Iie!!" She spoke the command sharply, with a mental Snap to go along with it.

Jennah Snarled and released the man. Foolish human....shouldn't have gotten his hand in the way.... Jennah snarled, her voice ripped through the packsong with startling fury.

The wolf licked her blood flecked lips and turned her eyes to the one she had bit.....and with a force behind her mind that even shocked Ayeka....she forced her mental message onto him.

No, you do NOT know what you are dealing with.

Ayeka kept one hand firmly on Jennah's scruff, she turned to Stephon. "As you can see sir, she is not tame....she suffers the presence of humans only for my sake." Abruptly, Ayeka tensed, and she turned to the young girl.... Damn! She cursed. And one hand lowered to her sword....steel reinforced silver....

She moved closer, hand outstretched....the girl wasn't fully turned, and wouldn't unless she actually took the blood of a human {I think that's what you have in mind :) hope you don't mind that I add a bit of Ayeka's storyline with it....the vampires as your char are known to Ayeka's kind as the "Cursed" for Ayeka was born a vampire, so had her entire family, on the ones Bitten are considered "Cursed" This is similar to "Blade"}

However....Ayeka's "pure blood" might be able to slow the transition, and even the help of her pendant would help control the girl's "BloodLust". She moved slow, and removed the pendant from her neck, a blood-red ruby with an obsidian rose in the center.

"Here....take this...it will help. I am here to help you...trust me..." She said softly, slowly, trying not to startle the girl

Rowena gritted her teeth together. She had not expected the pain. It had caught her by surprise. She could almost taste the blood on her parched lips. It filled her senses. Her vision blurred and then she saw something bright and red floating before her eyes.

“Take it,” a voice was saying to her. One that she had not heard before her. “Take it. I’m here to help you”.

“Lady” she whispered. “I am beyond help”. Nevertheless, white hands reached for the object before her eyes. She examined it carefully. In her palm lay a ruby, as red as blood.

White fingers closed around the object...

Ayeka watched as the girl reached for the Drache family crest. The ruby gave off a warmth that pulsed like a heartbeat. Ayeka nodded, knowing that the girl's heart would soon match the beat of the pendant...slowing the change, curbing the hunger....easing the pain.

"My name is Ayeka...Ayeka Drache. I want to help you....you where bitten....do you know who it was?" She asked softly, keeping her voice a soft whisper...her twilight colored eyes shifted with a soft gold gleam as her own body readjusted itself to it's normal rhythm without the Crest.Don't follow where the path leads

Ayeka whirled, her hand outstretched. "Vyusher'Enedra hai'vetha!" ((Wolf-sister, RUN!)) the wolf darted between the man's legs, and Ayeka stood before him, her hand catching his wrist, her strong grip was more painful than he would have expected from her slight form. Her eyes where now a molten gold. With a deft twist, his hand went numb...her nails digging into his flesh....the sword clattered to the floor.

"I warn you now....you got what you deserved.... Do no make me repay your foolishness with more of the same...." She snarled, her own teeth clenched in anger, fangs hidden by her lips. "I have shown you curtesy since you walked in this place....and you've done nothing other than be rude to me and my own....let it go..." She said the gold fading....replaced by the blue-violet color that seemed filled with the knowledge and sorrow of the world.

She let go of his wrist, and turned her back on him... "I will clean that wound....but I will not tolerate any more threats of violence while I am here....Is that clear?" She glared at Jennah, and then to Jalen.

Rowena felt the pain ease. She breathed more easily as her heart regained a steady tempo once more. The danger was passing. The animal within was retreating into the shadows.

She could not hide her amazement. She had thought herself beyond redemption. She stared at the ruby in her hand. She did not know what it was but she was grateful for its aid. She raised her eyes to that of the lady standing before her.

"I am Rowena of Tyne", she said. Dark eyes met golden fire. She looked into them deeply. She did not know this woman but something inside her urged her to trust the stranger. This wolf woman who offered her hope.

"How is it that you know?” she asked. She could not deny her curiosity. Did this woman have the sight, like her grandmother? Was that how she knew? Rowena waited for the woman called Ayeka to reply.

"My name is Ayeka Drache....my father Lord Drache is one of the Pure bloods....unlike the one who bit you." She sat down before the girl, casting Jalen a dark look of warning. "and as how I know... It is my job to know...for I hunt the "Cursed Ones".

"I am what is commonly called, and distastefully called a Dunpeal....a Half-Vampire. Now, before you get upset, my father is a pure blood, as I have said before. I do not kill for what I need, unless attacked by someone sorely deserving of it, a murderer for instance.... I have never taken an innocent life in my life, and I never will...."

She gestured to the pendant. "That is a replica of my family crest, the stone in it is ibued with certain magics that will help you. I've worn it ever since my "comming of age" the stone in it blocks the hunger and holds the "beast" at bay." She reached her hand out, and covered one of the girls' hands.

"I suggest that it can wait." A man with long, unkempt brown hair and brown eyes stood near to the people around the fire. His face was covered in a short growth of beard, and he wore a traveling outfit and a short sword.

The eyes that turned on Melean made him rethink his intervention for a moment, but he held his ground. He carefully proffered the fallen sword to the warrior, hoping that the man had learned his lesson the first time and would not lash out again. "Your outburst has drawn attention... this is a quiet town by standards, and this sort of thing is unwelcome." He indicated the rest of the room with a glance- frowns were scattered amongst the company and one of the servers was speaking to the keeper in a low tone, glancing in their direction. "Drache?" she said the word over. Tested the feel of it on her tongue. She had not heard the name before but there was much in the world that a village girl, who had spent all her life living with her witch-woman grandmother, had not heard about.

She lifted her head. Her composure returning little by little, with every moment she held the relic. She met the eyes of the woman.

“You were correct in your estimation. I am damned”. She looked into the golden fire. “Will you kill me too, when I can no longer hold the beast at bay?”. She knew that it was only a matter of time. And if what this woman said was true, then she hunted her own kind. She would hunt Rowena when the time came.

The man who came to stand before them drew her attention. It was only then that Rowena noted that others were also paying attention. “Friends of yours?”, asked Rowena. She wondered if they too were all vampire slayers by profession. She listened to what he said. “It seems the story of my initiation may have to wait?”.

Ayeka looked at Rowena steadily. THough she did not answer the girl's question, her eyes held all the answers in their sorrow. "Come on then....we should go. My camp is just outside the town. We would be better off there. you are all welcome, but please remember my words..." She glared at Jalen...it would take some time for this pompus ruffian to gain her trust.

Back at the camp, Ayeka's half brother, Touga watied. The black wolf at his side yawned as Touga built up the fire. A Blood Bay Gelding and a Black Battlemare milled around the outside of the light cast by the fire.

Jennah returns.....Your Jel'Enedra (little sister) returns as well.....She's got people with them...including a girl on the edge..... The wolf sent scratching at her ear. Touga glanced at the wolf, the firelight lighting his ice blue eyes, throwing shadows on his dark Auburn hair.

"The edge huh? That means Ayeka would've given this one her crest...." He sighed as he rummaged through one of the saddle bags. He pulled out a small leather pouch, it was filled with a resin that to his kind, had a scent that when burned was calming, soothing. He kept two or three of such pouches with him when traveling with his sister. He tossed it, leather pouch and all into the flames. A candidate who passes these examinations is assigned a quest to prove loyalty to the order and its cause. The quest must include a 30-day and 500-mile journey, the restoration of something that was lost, defeat of an evil and superior enemy, and one test of wisdom, three of generosity, and three of compassion. The candidate must be victorious while demonstrating the ideals of honour and courage and without killing his foes. The completion of these tasks must be witnessed or evidenced. A candidate who returns and tells of the quest is judged before a council of the Order of the Rose. If the quest and candidate are found fitting, the person becomes a Knight of the Rose.

Touga had caught Rowena as she fell, his ice blue eyes filled with concern. "This the one?" He asked, his eyebrows raised at his sister. Ayeka only nodded before turning to the group.

"You all will have to indulge me for just a little while longer....The girl is weak, and without help, will turn before sunrise....please, make yourselves comfortable, I will be able to answer whatever questions you may have." Ayeka turned back to her brother, who was already unrolling a bedroll, lying the girl upon it.

"Alight...tell me what happened....we can help you for now...but our little "treatments" won't cure you, only slow the process....tell us who did this...if we can find him, this will all be over."

Touga had tossed another of the resin packs onto the fire, noticing how Ayeka's arms trembled. He had rolled up the sleeves of his silk tunic, revealing lithe, muscular arms....with ivory pale skin. Rowena opened her eyes and nodded. Alright, she decided. Time to spin her yarn.
“He came to the village about three weeks ago”, the girl began. “He was a stranger to us all and none knew him. He was very young, at least his face was; but there was something in his eyes. He had aged eyes. He was very handsome”, she blushed then, or would have if there were any blood left in her to blush. “All the girls at the village were throwing their glances and smiles in his direction”. She shook her head in confusion. “I did not. I stayed away from him because my grandmother told me that I should. She had sensed that there was something not right about him. Even with her art and skill, she could not define what it was though. He masks it well”.

She paused, her mind reliving the encounter. She recalled that the moon was full and that the night had been surprisingly chill. She had been coming along the forest trail. She walked that path so many times as a child. It had always been safe. The village had always been safe.

“Perhaps it was because I was alone and an easy target. He must have lied about his name”, she shook her head. “I doubt very much if his name really was Marius. It was just the name he went by in the village”. Her dark eyes darted to the fire and stayed there. “There were deaths. Mysterious disappearances. People in the village grew suspicious. At first, we blamed the wolves and thought them responsible. We never for one moment thought that we might have a vampire in our midst. The thought never occurred to us”. She was silent for a long time.

“When I found out the truth, it was too late”. She remembered something, something important. “He could read our thoughts. So easily was he able to pluck out my own”.
She feared no danger, for she knew no sin.
Doomed to death, though fated not to die.

Touga glanced at Ayeka and the black wolf snorted, her yellow eyes bright in the firelight.

"I'm her brother, Sir Knight...." Touga said softly, which surprised Ayeka, Touga was always so Hot-blooded. He watched Rowena closely, his pale eyes warming by the moment. "The Cursed often have mutated abilites...some are better than ours....some can be used as weaknesses. Such as the use of wolfsbane, or even holy symbols....these are true creatures of darkness...."

He nodded to Ayeka, and waved her away. Ayeka did as he requested, older than her by fifty years, Touga was always the "Big" Brother. She returned to the remainder of the group. "So....how about a little about yourselves?

The two wolves lay in front of Touga and Rowena, their eyes glowing in the firelight. Touga knelt at her side. "I can help you Rowena....this isn't a cure, but, It will slow the cursed blood within you." using a small blade, he made a deep cut in his wrist....

Her nostrils flared. The hunger that was always upon her seized her with a renewed ferocity as the scent of blood filled her senses. Rowena licked dry lips. She shook her head, and gritted her teeth as the shivers began anew.

This was not right, her mind protested. This was what she had spent night and day fighting against. Surely, this was wrong. The horror was mirrored in her eyes, mingled with another more powerful emotion. Need. Hunger. She had been resisting the call for so many days. Her will was weakening. Her strength drained by another.

The familiar rush of blood sang to her head. His words echoed in her mind. What if he spoke truly? Rowena could not starve off her hunger any longer. She put her lips to his hand and fell into the darkness. Welcomed its claim her soul.

She felt her heart quicken. Heeded to the sound as it strummed to life once more with every sip of the rich wine. A flame was kindled to life and soon burning bright within her. She forced herself to pull away from the offering.

“Enough” she said, and wiped the back of her hand over lips that were stained red with blood. “I am sustained”. She waited for the animal within to spring forth and devour her. To claim her.

Yet nothing happened. She was still Rowena. Her eyes mirrored her surprise. “You spoke the truth”, she said with awe, and then suddenly laughed with unhidden joy. She felt as if she had been given new life. New hope.
She feared no danger, for she knew no sin.

Touga smiled, and wrapped his wrist....The wound would heal within the hour. "See? Trust us...we will do what we can to help you." He smiled at her. "Our kind does not kill to sustain our lives....we find humans who are willing ot help, some become close, close enough to be considered siblings....She'Endrin blood Siblings" Touga sat down, the black wolf sided up to him and rested her head in his lap, her yellow eyes studied Rowena.

"Ayeka lost her She'Endra years ago... thus the pain of our lives...to watch the loved ones pass on. We, the pure bloods, do not kill...we only take what we need, sometimes from those unwilling...but with our abilities, we leave them with no memory of what had happened to them. They are usually left no worse for the wear." He scratched at Nightshades' ears. He looked back to his sister, pride evident in his eyes.

"Ayeka has come along way...we both have.... sixty years ago, I was hunting Her thinking she was misguided in her beliefs....till our father showed otherwise." He smiled at the questioning look on Rowena's face and Nightshade sneezed.

"Our father, Indirectly caused the death of Ayeka's mother. While he loved Lady Sheris, She was human....and any child born from her would be a Dunpeal. When Ayeka was born, he was furious...used his abilities to control Lady Sheris and tried to have Ayeka killed. But, a friend of Lady Sheris stayed nearby to keep an eye on her, for she feared for her baby's life months ago...and asked him to protect her unborn child at all costs.

"There was a brief struggle, and the young Lord had accidentially turned the knife on Lady Sheris, and she threw herself upon it. Father decided to cover it up, seemingly to protect Lady Sheris.... and the young lord. He blamed it on the Cursed....and made the young lord Ayeka's betrothed. Ayeka was raised with that lie, and she hunted the Cursed for that reason, hoping to find her mothers' murderer."

He shifted, staring at the flames. "Our Father is dead now....I finally remembered what happened that fateful night, and he tried to have us both killed.... The tables where turned, and Ayeka suceeded in killing him instead...." He watched Ayeka, a smile lightened his grim features.

Rowena was bewildered, and did not try to hide it as she smiled back. She felt as if she had unwittingly opened a doorway and stepped out into a new and strange world. One with endless possibilities. Her mind whirled. “Your poor lady mother!” she gasped, “And how horrible to have to slay your own father”, she said sympathetically. She was silent for a while, her mind absorbing what she had heard.

“Thank you”, she said quietly. “For your aid and for sharing your story”. Rowena watched the others and wondered what strange paths brought them to this place.
Her own sorry tale was seared into her memory. She wondered if she would ever be allowed to forget. But she wasn’t the only creature on Krynn to have known pain and loss. Touga’s tale was evident of that fact. The other companions too, she was sure, had not had an easy life.

She recalled what her grandmother used to say, “These are dark times, my girl, and they will grow darker yet before the gods smile upon Krynn once more”. She hugged her knees to her chest and rested her chin on them. Her eyes seemed drawn to the dancing flames, the red fire mirrored in her steady gaze. I miss her, she thought wistfully. I miss that crazy old woman.

Jalen stood from his rock.

" Well, i was about to leave. However, i heard you three talking. You say we can cure this girl if we kill the vampire who bit her? I feel i must help. Maybe i can rebuild the trust in the knights. I dont really know what my mission in life is anymore. I suppose i'll just come along with you vampires, try to help out." Jalen kept a serious face and walked over to the fire. The knight sat next to Touga.

" So, what do you vampires fight with? What are these " abilities" you speak of?" Jalen asked with interest. The knight unsheathed his sword, revealing it to Touga.

Touga glared at Jalen, and his obvious need to show off. He looked to Ayeka and winked. "How much like him was I back then?" He asked, rolling his eyes.

Ayeka smiled. "Oh no big brother...you where worse....Much worse."

She sat down. "Yes, as long as she doesn't give in to the dark desires within, we will be able to help her if we find the one who instigated the change with his tainted blood." She looked at Touga, and continued at his nod.

"as for as the abilities....all vampires, even the cursed are inbued with a certain ammount of abilities, and weaknesses. the light of the sun for instance....most of us cannot stand that light...too bright for the eyes, our skin too sensitive to it's light and heat....while we purebloods can stand it during the early morning or late evening hours....we become very lethargic during the noontime hours...

While the Cursed cannot step into the sun without the aid of magic. Most of us have an allergy to silver....I myself excluded...because of my human heritage...I carry steel reinforced silver blades, and take them to a blacksmith every so often with several onces of silver to re-fold the edges. The Cursed don't have our affinity with the wolf pack... our wolves are special, they have the Voice....and speak to us at will....mostly only to their partners, the one that they bind themselves to.

though, if angered, they will force thier voices onto those who cannot normally hear them....as you, Jalen, found out. the cursed are more susseptible to holy artifacts and magics....because they are not part of the natural order of life...they where created...with the sole intention to kill...we aren't...most of the true pure-bloods do not take innocent lives."

She paused, her hands clenched tight for a moment, and she looked back up. "I want to help Rowena, help her as one of her kind once helped me many years ago." She said, her twilight eyes wet with tears.Do not follow where the path leads.

"we could leave before dawn...give us some time to prepare...." He said, with a meaningful glance at his sister. He noticed that Ayeka was fighting her own weaknesses....though they where few....there was one she didn't like...

Ayekas mind spun in chaos, as she fought her own beast... though only half, she had as strong a hunger as any pure-bred pure blood. She shivered as though she had gone cold. She nodded, and stood. "we'll be back before dawn....don't worry about a night watch here....Jennah and Nightshade will remain in the camp....they will warn us of any danger..."

She turned, and as an afterthought, turned back. "Ke'transth Rowena...." The two wolves turned their heads to Rowena, and with their combined telebathy, the girl could hear them.

We too will help you...protect you....but you cannot leave our sight.....

Rays of white light filtered through the canopy of leaves and cast their light on the girl making her way through the quiet woodland trail. There was birdsong in the air. Rowena heard laughter. The sound was achingly familiar. She ran to the sound, pushing clumsily past straying branches and twigs. The laughter grew louder. Rowena burst into the clearing, giggling triumphantly, wreathed in smiles.

“I found you!” she shouted. “I found you”. Her grandmother opened out her arms and Rowena ran into them. Grandma always smelled of warm bread and daffodils. Small hands grasped at the long strands of silvery white hair. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Hylo, lazing in the warm sun like an overfed pussycat.
“So you did, my girl”, her grandmother laughed as she wound her arms around her. “So you did”. Rowena opened her eyes with a start. “Grandma?”. Over her head glinted the light of a million and one stars.

She felt confused and disorientated. She was lying on a sheet in a deserted camp, by the side of a dying fire. She could feel the eyes of the night, watching her. Waiting. She shifted back from the glowing eyes. Her senses were sharp tonight. She could smell wet fur and blood. She could smell rusted steel and wet grass. A fine mist of rain was descending from above in the dark of the night, and all scents were enhanced twice fold.

Then she heard the whispers in the night, the seductive purr in her head. Rowena, someone was urging. Rowena. Leave now, the voice was urging. Come to me. It is not safe for you to keep company to with fallen angles. Come to me now, my girl. Rowena shook her head.

Ayeka wandered the Tavern, her brother kept to the back of the spacious common room. She watched the room for a likely candidate. She sipped at the wine she had bought, though it made her head ache....her face remained calm though her taste screamed at the bitter wine.

She noticed the other two from before, but ignored them....and watched the room. There....a dark glint in one patron's eye. His clothing was shabbily worn...the leather jerkin was thin and travel stained, yet his hair was well kept, and clean. Her eyes narrowed, and then looked back to her brother, whose head inclined just a bit, his blue eyes a bright point in his shadowed features.

She watched as the man got up, hands fiddling with something under his cloak, as he followed a particular drunk patron as he stumbled out the door. Ayeka and Touga walked out after them. Touga followed his sister at a distance, just in case something went wrong. Ayeka followed the theif, her eyes had taken on a golden cast once more. She moved in the shadows faster than any human eye could track. As the Drunkard moved past her, and the Theif rounded the corner, Ayeka stepped from those shadows.

"You really should reconsider your ways....it really could be hazardous to your health..." She said softly, her hand on his arm before he could draw a blade. Her hand twisted and she heard a snap. Her hand closed on his mouth, preventing his yell. Her eyes locked onto his, and the cry died in his throat.

She whispered softly under her breath as she moved closer, the torch in the alleyway extinguished itself. As her fangs found the artery in his throat, her mind locked with his.... re-setting the past few minutes....all he would remember when he finally woke was that his supposed target wasnt much of a drunk.... and he would be quite shocked to find himself in the town jail.

She let him go, and he slumped to the ground... The marks on his neck where already fading.... She drew her knife, and cut the theif along his forarm, deep enough to draw plenty of blood. His shirt was now stained with it. She tore off a peice of her cloak and wrapped it. She turned and nearly screamed, she didn't realize that Touga was so close.

"Nice touch" He said, pointing to the wound she made with her knife. She shook her head and cried out for help.

" Wait a second." Jalen whispered from behind Touga.

" Since you bit him, doesnt he become cursed? Your letting him go to jail as a vampire?!" Jalen said in a suprised tone. He quieted down as men came from behind. They covered the body with a cloth and put him in the back of a wagon. Jalen waited for the wagon to depart.

" Oh, i get it. You two still have 'craving'. So instead of killing anyone you target criminals and thieves. Doesnt seem right to me. How do you know this man wasnt just borrowing something?" Jalen protested. If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

Touga turned, his eyes glinted with silver. "Are you so poorly minded that you cannot afford to pay attention? The change isn't instagated by bite only, an exchange of blood is required. And as far as this, once Ayeka connected with him, she wouldn't have taken what she did if his intentions weren't clear." He said softly. He turned, His hands clenched.

"And, you had better be quiet, unless you want to be next." He hissed, the silver in his eyes gleaming in the restored torchlight."You know the term 'too close for comfort'? well....that was Damned uncomfortable!!"

Ayeka turned, the gold gone from her eyes...though the frown on her face was enough to make Touga back away from Jalen.

Melean sat on a stump just outside of the campsite, watching. The woman and the knight from the inn had left for town some time ago, along with the man who had identified himself as the woman's brother. It was then that Melean had sat down to gurad the place for them.

This night was dark. Something told the man that it wouldbe safer for the girl is he stayed.

The wolves had found him, of course, had been aware of him from the moment he had neared the place. One, the dark one, had come over to him and stared for a moment. As one who had walked near all manner of beasts, Melean knew the proper body language to use with wolves, and these were obviously more than mere beasts. Besides, he had been invited to come here. The wolf, at least, had seemed satisfied.

But now something was strange. Melean could feel the air press closely around him. There seemed to be something on the wind that he could not identify.... it was like an elusive smell or a bit of treespeak, but it was something clearly more subtle, for he could not grasp it.

The girl had it, though. He saw her suddenly sit up from her bedroll, visibly tense even from a distance. Something's wrong. Melean picked up the staff next to him and grasped it loosely, the metal that capped it gleaming cold in the shadows. He would be ready this time.

OOC: That's okay, glad to have you back :)

BIC: Ayeka stumbled once, yet recovered quickly, She and Touga where lenths ahead of the knight. just as they cleared the city gates, a shadow separated itself from the darkness....and lunged at Ayeka.

She fell without a sound, though a well-aimed kick threw her attacker off. She stood and watched the Cursed carefully, as one would a rabid dog. she watched it closely....noting this wasn't a Cursed One, not exactly.

Sometimes, now and again, the change goes wrong with the cursed ones...it's usually when the blood between them is old. Though the cursed is young itself, the tainted blood within is old and stagnant. It creates ghoulish wraith-like creatures that live only for blood, any blood. they are more like watchdogs to the Cursed Ones....and are used as such.

"GO! I'll take care of this one! Get back to the camp!" She cried, unsheathing her sword.

Touga hesitated, then nodded, knowing that Ayeka had faced much worse. He ran towards the dim glow of the fire. He didnt' bother to see if the knight was following him. Ayeka's eyes had regained their gold cast...

"Fool of a Wraith....how dare you attack a member of the highest house....You will pay for such a foolish action with your life." She hissed softly, her breath quickening. She rushed at it, as it screeched in rage, claws raised, the bloodlust clear it it's eyes. It's claws raked at her arm, drawing blood, but that only serves to firm her resolve. She lunged, feinted, and finnaly, it rushed past her, and when it realized its error, turned, only to find Ayeka's sword in it's heart.

The unholy screech it screamed made Ayeka wince. It fell as the screech died. AYeka unfastend her cloak, and wrapped the Wraith in it, loath to touch the tainted blood. and made her way back to camp, inending on throwing the body on the campfire...."You know the term 'too close for comfort'? well....that was Damned uncomfortable!!"

Ayeka moved into the camp and walked over to the fire. She fiddled with something on her cloak and then threw the body into the flames. "We're going now....This Cursed One knows where we are...." She said as she moved over to her saddle bag and pulled out her spare cloak. She lifted the bag and proceeded to saddle her black mare. Nytehart pranced and tossed her head, clearly nervous. "Can you keep up, Ranger?" She said calling out to Melean.

The man hopped out of the brush, trotting out to where the horses stood. He held a staff, capped with a small knob of metal. It looked like a wizard's staff...

"No, I can't match your pace, and my horse is back in the town. Here," he said, taking something out of one of his pouches and tossing it to Ayeka. When she held it up, it caught the light- a wooden disk, inlaid with an iron design of a raven. "Show that to any inkeep within leagues and he'll do what he can for you. Dark shadows flitted past, as swiftly as the wind. The sound of pounding hooves on the damp earth echoed that of her racing heart. They were fleeing into the night and it was because of her. Guilt seized Rowena like a hand about her throat. This was her fault. She had gladly accepted their aid, but she wondered if she had unwittingly led them into the path of danger.

Rowena tried to recall the dream which only moments ago had been as sharp as ice in her mind. It was nothing but a hazy recollection now. All that remained was a feeling of loss. Dark eyes lifted to the two moons above her head. A faint shadow of a darker moon kept their company. What have I done, she thought. She did not want to be the chink in the armour that led to their fall. For a moment, her mind had not been her own. If Ayeka had not returned in time, she was not sure what sin she might have been driven to commit.

She could not believe that she was capable of turning her hand against a friend who had helped her; but the dark one who had drained away her blood, had already shown how easily he could enter her mind. She wondered fearfully if she could be so easily possessed again. Her mind was not as strong as that of these ancient people. Her power childlike when tested against the weight of unknown centuries. Not for the first time, Rowena wished that she could turn to her grandmother, the Shaman of Tyne, for guidance; but she knew that this was her time. Her task to prove herself as strong as all the other women of her line.

Tayrn!! Her mind seethed with rage. This Cursed one had nearly destroyed all of her family, only her elder son and her brother remained.

"Do not blame yourself Rowena....In some twisted Irony, this would have happened sooner or later....if not you then some other poor girl...this one, this Monster Will stop at nothing to get what he wants..." She said softly, refusing to meet the girl's dark eyes, for fear of what she may see reflected in their depths."You know the term 'too close for comfort'? well....that was Damned uncomfortable!!"

Rowena knew that Ayeka had spoken her words to comfort her, and she appreciated the kind thought- but to her mind, it was only further proof that her thoughts were no longer her own. Every dream, every memory, was like an open book. The pages simply waiting to be read by a stronger mind.

We will not win this, she thought, knowing now that Ayeka could hear her. You cannot destroy the one we seek when he can play with my mind as easily as if I were a puppet on a bit of string. She shook her head. This was hopeless.

She did not know to where they rode. She did not care. Then she realized what her tormentor had been doing while she had been dreaming. He had been ridding her of her hope. This is not me, thought Rowena. I am usually mush stronger than this. I have always held my hope in a tight fist. It is what has seen me through those first dark days. She blinked and her eyes cleared of the fog.

“I know one who will shelter us from the storm”. A small smile came to her face. It was so simple really, she should have thought of it sooner. Killing two birds with one stone. If her mind had not been so fogged by the cursed one’s hold over her, she might have dug out this plan sooner from her mind. “She will care for your horses and your wolves, and she will feed our other companions. And perhaps his trail will be stronger in the place on the forest path, where it all began”.
She feared no danger, for she knew no sin.

Jalen held on to the horse tightly as it sped through the night.

" Hey Touga. Figuring I'm gonna be facing a lot of evil vampirish demons on this quest, maybe you could give me a few pointers, you know, ways to kill them." Jalen shouted over the rushing wind.If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

Ayeka urged her mare in the direction that Rowena directed. Her thoughts seethed through her mind as a hot flame ate through hard, wet wood, slowly, methodically.

Tayrn had joined forces with her father, trying to have her killed.....He stole her son from her, turning him against her.....he even killed her mate...

Touga regarded Jalen carefully, and helped the knight swing up into a proper riding position.

"The use of a silver blade is best, once used the silver does the damage from within....searing the blood and burning from within...."

Touga leaned forward, urging his gelding to keep pace with Ayeka's mare. "Sunlight is even better, or an intense fire....anything else will be like attacking a dragon with a steel dagger" He shouted over the wind and pounding hooves."You know the term 'too close for comfort'? well....that was Damned uncomfortable!!"

Dawnbreak lighted their path to Tyne. It was a small fishing village located on the Southern shore of the Bay of Balifor, bordering the heartlands of the forest kingdom of Silvanesti. It was never an easy task to live in harmony with the inflexible Elves, and the fishermen of Tyne had seen many disputes and raids from the quick-witted Silvenesti in their time. But even such a severe upbringing had not prepared them for the devastation that had been wrought by a single vampire.

As they rode through the streets of the once familiar town, Rowena could not help but note the changes that had been wrought on her village after only a few days of absence. Children no longer played on the streets. Villagers watched each other with wary eyes. Doors were locked and barred. They regarded the strangers who rode through the street with unconcealed animosity through shuttered windows.

Suddenly, one old woman stepped into the path of Ayeka’s horse and spat on the mud beneath. She glared at Rowena in anger.
“That’s her!” the woman was shouting and pointing. “That’s the witch woman’s spawn!” The other villager began to pay attention, glad to have a point of focus for all their fear and anger.

“Perhaps we should have gone around the village to my grandmother’s house”, Rowena said as she warily watched the approaching villagers, clubs and sticks in hand. But she had not been thinking clearly. Every so often, the fog would descend and rid her mind of clear thought.

She turned a pleading eye to her companions. “Do not hurt them”, she begged. “They are only afraid”. She knew it was an unfair request to make since the villagers own intent was very clear in their eyes. They were very determined to hurt Rowena and who so ever stood with her.
She feared no danger, for she knew no sin.
Doomed to death, though fated not to die.
Panting and pensive now she ranged alone,
And wandered in the kingdoms once her own.

Ayeka and Touga both drew their swords. "I will not kill them....but I cannot completely guarentee that i will not injure them...." She said softly to Rowena.

"I'm warning you now! Stay Back if you value your lives!" She yelled, her grip on her sword firm. "we mean you no harm...but try to deliver you from the evil that so obviously holds your city in it's thrall!"

The two wolves eyed the villiagers warily, their growls easily heard, though neither bared their teeth."You know the term 'too close for comfort'? well....that was Damned uncomfortable!!"

Dark eyes, red with fire ran over the frightened villagers. Their fear echoed her own. “Please listen to her” Rowena called out. “They come here to help us”. Ayeka turned to Touga, and nodded as though answering some unspoken question. He moved his gelding forward a bit, so that he flanked Ayeka. Without warning, Ayeka urged her horse forward, the black battlemare reared, pawed at the air, and bolted down the trail. With Touga and Jalen staying in the path to watch their backs.

From a nearby hilltop, Melean watched the scene unfold. He had run hard and ridden harder, calling on an old friend along the way to get a change of mounts. The horses' tracks had been easy to follow, double-laden as they were, and after they had turned towards Tyne their path was clear. Melean had been to the little village twice before, but had never spent much time there.

But here I am. What now...? It looks like it's up to me if they need help, and they may well if the villagers can't be persuaded.

Melean spurred his horse down and towards the crowd, staff held high. Though he was still ragged and scruffy, the beautiful staff's shining cap and his straight bearing lent him a certain air in the dawn light, something noble or secret in his soul. He bore down swiftly on the people, waiting until he had come close before shouting out loudly.

Rowena nodded. “She can help, but sometime she can be recalcitrant. She will help if she is of a mind to. She wanted me to prove myself, and that was why she told me to go out alone; to hunt the vampire alone- but the villagers”, Rowena paused, a fond warmth of remembrance crossing her eyes, “she cares for them as a mother would her own children. She will put a stop to this. The villagers will heed the word of the Shaman. They must”.

" I'm telling you Touga... if one of them mearly raises a stick at me, i'll end them for good!" The knight said staring at the townspeople.

" Oh look, our friend made it." Jalen said as Melean rode towards them. He waved to the man as he approached.

He kept his sword drawn, but he kept the flat of the blade towards the villiagers, proving his point.

A low voiced whispered from within the crowd of villagers. Somehow emminating above their angered tones yet not losing its cold ageless tone.

"Why do you hold your sword so? You come to this village with this witch and expect us to welcome you? i am but new here myself, but I have heard of your coming."

An evil glint was all that gave notice of who the voice belonged to. It was evident that he was no ordinary person, but the enraged and suspicious villagers had paid no heed to this strange man when he had arrived in the village some month ago with his beautiful wife. Nor did they seem to notice the alarming amount of missing people since his arrival. But they heard him now. Egging them on he spoke with authority and conviction. He knew they were no where near a match for them........but if they chose to fight and die, that would leave an impression on those who survived, and thus ayeka and her friends would be reviled everywhere they went, no passage would be easy for them. They would be shunned, feared, Hated.

"YES! we'v all heard the stories of children being lost in the night. Husbands, wifes, daughters, sons, not coming home ever again. And then you arrive. PEOPLE of the village.......do you not see?! They should not be trusted."

Taking a step forward, he let his words sink into the minds of the villagers, a fear spell already had been cast......the villagers would be unable to control their hostilities amidts their fearful thoughts.

"Tell us why you come"

A villager gave a shout as he stumbled to get near the front of the crowd.
"TO kill us all!!!!!!!" He said. A rather tall sturdy man angrily pushed him away, and a skirmish started. Without another word taryn steped back into the crowd before Touga could reply. The villagers did not seem to take notice that he had disappeared before their eyes, so caught up in anger and fear were they.

Taryn had done what he had planned, if nothing else the villagers would be wary of them. His hope however was for a skirmish causing death. Which would just be the start........For soon.......death would come whether they tried to avoid it or not......"So what is it? The door of the cottage opened.
“She already knows that we are here, and why,” whispered Rowena. It was then that Ayeka had her first viewing of the Shaman of Tyne. The white witch was an old woman. Her eyes were old. Her hair as white as snow. She struck the watcher as a woman who was simply waiting for death to claim her. Shadowing her footsteps was a huge leopard. Rowena grinned and then sliding off Nytehart ran into her grandmother’s welcome embrace.

“You are well?” asked Anoka, though she could see as much with her own tired eyes. Rowena nodded.
“We must hurry,” she said. “The villagers are beyond control”. Anoka bowed her head.

“I have been neglecting them”. She laid a hand to Rowena’s soft pale cheek. “I have neglected much”. Rowena felt a well of hope rise inside her.
“There is time”, she said, as she led her grandmother to her friend.
“Allow me to introduce Ayeka Drache”, said Rowena. She felt her grandmother stiffen under her hand. Anoka could sense the difference in the blood.

“She is a friend”, Rowena said. “She has aided me. If not for her brother sharing his blood with me, I would be as cursed as Marius”.
She feared no danger, for she knew no sin.

"Yes, and then we arrive, darkspeaker! Then we arrive, not before, but now do we come! I know nothing of your village or your plight, but I am a free traveler on your roads! Who will deny me safe passage here!?"

"Tell us why you come"

"FOOLS!" Melean screamed the word, long and loud and menacing as he rode down on the crowd. Amazingly, the people spread like water- though he did not know it, the fear spell was made his unexpected charge seem all the more menacing, and they scattered. He did not break his ride where Touga and the knight sat, instead bearing through the throng on the other side. Knocking clubs, hoes, hands, and pitchforks aside with sweeps of his shining staff, he only hoped that his allies would follow him. Well, that the horse does, in any case... " Flat of the sword.....good idea." Jalen shouted to Touga, turning his sword so the flat of it was ready to strike. The first attacker was a big bellied man with a wood-cutting axe. Jalen swung his sword, giving the man a swift hit in the side of the head. Another man came upon him from behind. Jalen flipped him over with ease then punched him in the face with his armoured gauntlet.

" We must not kill any of them!" Jalen said shouted as he fought off another villager.

A near murderous rage rose within him... soon he no longer saw the villagers before him...but the face of an old enemy, his sister's bane to existance.

“Taryn” Rowena knew that she would not forget the name in a hurry. She turned to Ayeka and laid a hand on her shoulder. “He has much to answer for”. She wanted to know more about this underling of his. Perhaps she would lead them to her master, but there would be time for more questions later. There was a more pressing issue at present.

Rowena raised her eyes to the Shaman. “Believe me. We can trust her, grandmother. Now we must get to the village and quickly, before the villagers attack our other companions”. She did not know for how long they could hold back the tide of angry fishermen.

“Go to the back, and fetch the geldings,” said Anoka. Rowena hesitated at first, raising a worried glance to the two women. “Go”, her grandmother, said gently, and Rowena went to do as bid.

Anoka straightened her stance. Her tired eyes seemed to alight with the last vestige of her life force. Her time in this world would soon end. She had to ensure that Rowena would be ready to take over the mantle, when that time came.

She gazed at the vampire slayer and met golden fire.
“I see that my granddaughter wears a talisman about her neck. It is a powerful charm and I doubt if she came by it lightly. I believe that you gave it to her”. The old woman took Ayeka’s silence as consent. “A person who lends a stranger that which she requires for herself is no longer considered a stranger. That person is considered a friend”. The Shaman had spoken. She would say nothing further on the matter.

Rowena returned with the twin bay geldings, a past gift from an Elven lord. They were all soon mounted and riding back, to rescue their companions from the villagers.

Ayeka's Battle mare knelt for her weary rider, and Ayeka slipped into the saddle easily. Hurry! your sibling is about to loose it! Came Jennah's mental howl.

Quick flashes of TOuga's pale face, the iron grip that he had on the sword.... Yelling a sharp command, She tapped the mare's flank, and she burst into a wild gallop. Ayeka had drawn her sword, and kept the blade slightly raised, the flat against the Mare's flank.

She reached the crossroads first, the mare making the villagers scatter. "Touga!" She cried, and lept from the mare's back... He had raised his sword, intent on a fallen villiager. She saw Jalen trying to calm him.. "Jalen! Get away from him! NOW!" She cried, as she lept infront of Touga. Her sword met Touga's in a sharp clang of silver against steel. Touga's eyes were silver in color.

What's wrong with him? She sent to Jennah, who in turn looked at Nightshade.

He is deep within the packsong....deep within of memory.... Came the enigmatic reply. Ayeka pondered this as she struggled against her brother's weight behind his sword. She opened her mind to the packsong.....the howls filled her mind with a grey fog.... the howls formed into words..... Tayrn...Tayrn....tayrn

"Touga! Stop....He's not here....Let it go! Or you'll kill us all!" She screamed, and she flipped her sword so that his blade grated agsinst the flat of her......it slipped, and he stumbled. With a move that was faster than human eyes could follow, she whirled, and caught him on he back of the neck with the flat of her blade. With a grunt, he fell to the ground, his hand finally releasing his sword.

Panting, Ayeka knelt at his side. "Touga...you can really be a pain...." She muttered as she rolled him over.

“Cease this!” The sound of the Shaman carried through the air, resounded in the ears of all present. “People of Tyne. This is not the way to end your suffering”. Even as she spoke, Anoka sensed the spell that had been cast on the villagers, could taste the darkness that fogged all their minds. “This is not the way my children”. Even as she spoke, her mind was weaving the counter spell. Summoning the spirits of the night and the air to come to her aid. Her eyelids drifted closed, she laid a fist to her forehead, and sang the spell. The chant took her over and filled the air.

“Touga!” Rowena rushed down from her horse and ran to her friend’s side. She knelt beside Ayeka and closed her eyes, laid a fist to her forelock, and echoed the words of the Shaman.

Jalen did not hesitate with Ayekas commands. The knights went far from Touga and watched Ayeka help him. Jalen watched his companion with wide eyed shock. Would he really have killed him if he stayed by his side? Ayekas words stuck on his mind.

The knight came back to the two siblings when Touga was back to himself again.

" Im afraid to tell you this Ayeka, but wasn't going crazy. There was someone in the crowd. At his very word, he roused the villagers even more then before. They started attacking us. I think that man was....Taryn, whoever HE is. I take it you two know this man." Ayeka looked up at Jalen, and shook her head. "I know.... My Nemesis is behind all of this...and don't worry, it wasn't the name that brought on this "fuge" but the "man" himself, if you can call such a creature a man."

"Touga....why didn't you double your sheild spells like I told you to? You've fallen for his trick once before, if it hadn't been for Kiri, you would've killed me..... we can't keep doing this!"

Touga shook his head, clearly miserable. "I- I'm sorry Jalen....I thought...I saw.....forgive me..." He muttered, his eyes filled with remorse.

At Jalen's puzzled look Ayeka elaborated. "Tayrn has tried this trick before, Touga isnt' exactly magicaly Inclined...though he can do sheilding spells if he remembers to do them... When we first ran into Tayrn, he cast a spell on Touga, making him think that I and our friends where some kind of demons.... Touga nearly killed me, and one of our group managed to stop him."

Ayeka looked around at the villagers. "My bet is that he saw Tayrn where ever he looked, if you had moved wrong, say the wrong thing, he would've attacked..... if one of the villagers attacked, he would've probably killed them....only to become more agitated as more attacked, each looking like his enemy.... our "friend" is quite the illusionist."I wish that i could cry

Melean had left his horse nearby and walked into the crowd. Helping people to their feet and inspecting bruises, he was also watching and listening closely. He did not like what he was hearing. A mage was troublesome, and a vampiric mage doubly so. Glancing nervously about, he walked out of the crowd. He would have little rest so long as he remained with these people.

So far, however, they have needed my help... and it seems that they may again soon. I will stay close, for now."Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

The dazed villagers began to recover their thoughts and their wits. One by one, they turned to the Shaman for comfort and guidance.

“Peace” said Anoka. Rowena immediately went to help her as she climbed down from the gelding. “This isn’t over grand-daughter”, Anoka whispered to Rowena. “The spirit song that was cast will last but a while only. We both know that my powers weaken as my time draws near. You and your friends must act, and quickly. This Taryn. Seek him out. Find his weakness”. Rowena nodded, here eyes not betraying a word of what had been said to her.

She would wait until they were away from the villagers, and then she would relay what Anoka had said to her companions.

Jalen patted Touga on the back in forgiveness.

" I understand, my friend." Jalen said. He walked over to Ayeka.

" We should find shelter, maybe an inn." Jalen said with a look of concern. " Who knows when this Taryn will cause more chaos. If he can get through Tougas mind that easily, he could definately get through mine." The knight walked over to Rowena and Anoke.

"Thanks for the rescue. I am Jalen, Knight of the Rose. Is there an inn in this town?" Jalen asked the old shaman. If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

"And so it has begun. The time for brooding has passed and my enimies are before me. And I know just who to go after............first"

The cool airy dwelling that Taryn stood in the midst of echoed his every word as he mulled over what was to be done next. The faint smell of blood scented the room, the 'former' occupants had come to a rather 'unfortunate' meeting with two strangers that humbly requested residence some month ago.

Shandra in her soft alluring voice nodded in interest as Taryn lit the fireplace. "So my love, who will it be then? You know how I rue battles."

"This will be no battle my dear" Taryn said in low tones, the glint of the fire gleaming in his eye. He was in earnest now, a plan in hand, there was no doubt it would serve its purpose.

"No, this will be no battle. Touga was once evil. We were even on the same side once a long time ago, though under different circumstances and certainly not because we wanted to. He has now changed his ways because of his meddlesome sister. He almost killed a villager today because of my spell. There is some evil in him still. It cannot be denied. You will go to him at a moment when he is alone under the guise of another woman of the night for he would recognize you without a disguise. You will tempt him, seduce him to the pleasure of the nightstalker, all the things he may miss yet still. The kill, the fresh blood of the unsuspecting victim. He may fall or he may resist, either way it will serve its purpose. Tension will grow between the 2 siblings. And then in a moment of weakness.........I will handle them"

Shandra relished the thought. At the smae time it pained her, she remembered well her hunting trips with adrian, how he loved to seduce his victims.......alas thats another story, memories of which she did not wish to revisit yet. Now she would have some fun. With a plan in place, she sat next to Taryn by the fireplace, two golden goblets clinked as they drank the red liquid that gave them everlasting life.

"Let the fools rest..........for soon, there will be rest for noone.""So what is it? Do you just flip a coin in the morning to decide what you will be for the day? Heads Knight of Neraka Tails Solamnic Knight :D"

Melean heard the offer, but could not accept... he would not be comfortable in a stranger's house. Walking away, the reigns of his horse in hand, he headed for an inn. Rowena was in the paddock, at the back of the cottage, tending to all of the horses. Smoke from the hearth curled over the chimney and was swept away by a steady breeze from the sea. She patted Milkweed and Wildflower affectionately. Both the bay geldings had seen much use today. She looked to the stars and sighed.

“Ancient Spirits, be with us on our quest”, she whispered into the dark. The burden lay heavily on her shoulders. Her grandmother had said it would be soon. A matter of hours. A matter of days. Time had no meaning for Anoka. She had walked the face of Krynn for many centuries. She was quite possibly the oldest human on Krynn.

The mantle would be passed. Rowena had accepted that duty from birth. However, she shuddered, wondering if she could fulfill the role that had been given to her. Wondered if the tainted blood she carried would stop her from being even half the Shaman that Anoka had been.

Ayeka unsaddled NyteHart, and loosened the bitless bridle a bit. The mare wickered, and nudged Ayeka with affection. Jennah gave a sharp, puppy-like bark. The mare neighed and touched noses with the large white wolf. Jennah sneezed and raised her nose to the sky, her full-throated howl rolled from the cliff like a wave in the sea below.

Ayeka smiled and knelt down one one knee, hugging her friend. To her, the wolves where more than pets, a friend or packmate....Jennah was a sister to her, though forlegged, and a wolf, they had a depth of feeling and complete trust in the other.

Ayeka and the mare held a similar relationship, though not as close. She turned and saw that Touga had done the same to his gelding, the bay gelding pranced as he removed the Saddle and replaced his bridle with a simple hemp rope halter.

She left Touga to his musings, and walked over to Rowena. "How are you feeling?" She asked softly, as not to startle her. When the sun is gone, I see you

BIC: Jalen walked out onto the small terrace of the cottage. He looked up at the star lit sky. He jolted in suprise as he heard a voice coming from the paddock. The knight slowly approached it, his hand on his hilt. He sighed in relief when he realized it was only Rashima.

The knight had been meaning to speak with her one-on-one since this journey began.

" Beautiful night isn't it?" Jalen said as he walked up to Rashima, stroking his mustache. He looked at Rashima with an odd smile.

" It looks like the vampires have won you over. You actually trust those blood-suckers?" Jalen whispered, not wanting anyone else to overhear.

" I've felt strange about those two since the beginning. Whats to stop them from jumping on me and sinking their fangs into my neck, cursing my healthy body. You saw what Touga almost did to me today! These people arent like us, they are beasts!" Jalen said in disgust. The knight got closer to Rashima, his armor glinting in the moonlight.

" I wouldnt want them to hurt you. Your the only person i'm in this for. Come with me! I can take you to Solomnia! Away from these creatures. You are not destined to be like THEM. There is still a chance for you!" Jalen started raising his voice in anger. Jalen heard the two siblings voices and began pacing away from Rashima. " Think about it!" The knight whispered harshly, then headed back to the warmth of the cottage. If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

The scent of garlic, onions, and beef washed over Melean as he opened the door of the Waypoint. The little inn was well known in the small, seaside community for its hearty stews, and Melean was looking forwards to a good meal after all of his excitement. Hailing the keeper, he got himself a room and took his supper up to it, not desiring to stay in the common room, nearly full as it was.

Setting the plate and loaf of day-old bread down, he laid his staff asside set about removing his cloak and swordbelt. The shortsword landed awkwardly on the bed, its hilt ring turning it over before it came to rest on its back. That blade has served me well in the times I've had use for it... hopefully that sort of use won't come again soon. OOC: I think you mean Rowena, right???

IC: The apprentice Shaman turned at the sound of Ayeka’s voice. She nodded her head. “I am well, for now. But I cannot help but feel …lost at times”. The knight’s words had puzzled her. Had the Master Vampire reached that one already? Nevertheless, he had had her best interests at heart, or so he had said. Dividing loyalties was not to her liking, but she accepted that at some time in the future, she might have to make a choice. Rowena knew what she would do. A Shaman had no choice. She would always do what was best for Tyne, even if her life was forfeit.

Rowena could feel a chill in the gathering fog that had little to do with the cooling temperature. She had experienced the phenomenon many times as a child. She would feel the hairs on the back of her neck stand on end and then…

The last time it had been Marius- but no, that was not his name. She could feel a part of her mind slipping into the darkness. Somewhere in the hidden depths, a demon still lurked. Snarling at a leash. For now, it was held at bay, by ancient blood and ancient talismans- but it was only a matter of time.

She looked into Ayeka’s golden eyes. Her own eyes narrowed a little. She was finding it harder to concentrate as the hours dragged on from one day to the next. She fought hard to cling to her memory. The most sacred possession of a Shaman- the Knowledge. The last thing to seep away before an invisible boundary would be irretrievably crossed.

“He will attack this day”, she said. A Shaman did well to trust her premonitions. Rowena had learned that lesson the hard way.

The night had not come fast enough for taryn. He paced his chamber in anticipation, the moment had come.................for the chaos to start.

He motioned for Shandra's attention:

"We will lure them to us, once the fighting has started you must single touga out. make him want to kill an innocent. The spell has worked on him before, if he isnt on his guard.......it will work again. Should they survive......you will go to him, convince him that the way of the dark is the only way, his bloodlust cannot be denied. You know what to do."

Taryn was pleased. He would let his enimies destroy themselves.

The time for waiting had passed, now along the outskirts of waypoint a shrill scream could be heard, and another and then all was silent. A couple lay mangled on the barely traveled path into the city, the stat of what would turn out to be a bloody night..........

taryn was sure that the gaurds and maybe even some villagers would try to come and aide those that had already fallen. he knew also that the others he sought would be amongst them.

Rowena suddenly gripped Ayeka’s shoulder. Her eyes were distant and cold. There had been no warning. Only a fleeting voice in her head, a residue effect from her own attack when Taryn's blood had been linked with her own, and that barely seconds before the first cold body had fallen to the ground.

“He has struck once more” she said in a desperate voice. “I must hurry”. She looked at the Vampire Slayer. As reason began to surface into her mind, so did caution. “You have given much already and this is my task- but still…”, she found it difficult to ask for help, but her eyes spoke volumes. “This may be the end of Tyne”, she said at last.

"It is the time to meet Taryn once more," she whispered.

She began to sing the spirit song that would give the horse the swift feet of the wind. She held on to her racing heart and prepared herself to face the danger ahead.

She knew that her grandmother would have sensed the danger, would already be making her own preparations.

A soft shadow skulking in the dark with glowing amber eyes told her that Hylo would be joining their hunt. At least she would not be helpless this time. Taryn would not be able to catch her unawares.

She waited for Ayeka to give the word that would send Nytehart racing at wind speed.

The knight had heard the scream while lying on his straw mat in the cottage. Jalen then rose and saw Touga running off. The knight followed on his feet. Touga went much faster but the knight managed to keep Touga in sight to see where he had stopped.

" Come Touga, we must find the source of that scream. Do you think it came from the village? Touga?" Jalen looked at Touga in confusion, who still looked around the treeline. The dead figure was that of the baker’s son. “Lewis Gunn. I know this boy”, she whispered, and a terrible pain shot through her body. “I know him and I know his family. He wanted to leave the village and become a soldier, but he never found the courage to leave his family. Now he never shall”. She laid a hand over Lewis’s cold hand. Her own was as white, as cold.

“Rest now Lewis. Your death shall be avenged. I promise you that”, she said. When Rowena rose to her feet, here eyes were filled with a wild fire of determination. Of hatred and evil, as had not been seen before in the young woman’s eyes. The predator within her was awakening to an ancient call.

Her voice was cold and empty when she spoke. “Taryn will be my first kill. I will have no more death in Tyne, save his”. She walked towards Waypoint, an avenging angel with a frozen heart.

Jalen obeyed Touga and found his way through the woods and back to the path. He could see the village, not too distant. He bent over to catch his breath.

Jalen rose when he heard a loud screech from behind. A small winged creature flew towards him. It was only three feet tall. It landed on two legs and started running towards Jalen, its claws ready to strike. It was some kind of imp. It lept onto Jalens chest and slashed the knight across the face. Jalen threw it off then swung at it with his two handed sword. The knight sliced the imps head off with fury.

" Whats going on here!" Jalen shouted in the air. What were these new creatures inhabiting Krynn?

In moments, three more flying imps came down from the star-lit sky. Their eyes flared red. Jalen cut one in half before it could land. The other two landed on his back and started biting his armor, not very successfully. The knights jumped to the ground and started rolling around on the path. After the imps were slightly squashed, the imps flew away in panic.

Jalen sighed in relief. At the sound of numerous screeches, Jalen gasped in fear. He looked in the sky to see hundreds of flaring eyes. It was a flock of imps, and they were heading right for Jalen.

" No!!!!" Jalen screamed in fear. The knight ran towards the village down the path, the swarm of imps not too far behind. If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

The stench of death was cloying. It was thick and heavy. It filled her, numbed her senses as she pushed her way through the ripped door of the inn and entered darkness’s lair. She felt her way blindly, her eyes still dimmed by tears and still weakly newborn. Her eyes were still adapting to their newfound vampire-vision that was keenly Elven in its precision when fully set. She reached out a hand, floundering like an infant.

The smell grew stronger. The scent of death. Hunger woke anew. Blinded her with a fresh stab. A fresh yen for blood.

“Ayeka!”. She cried out in the dark. “I cannot see for the blood before my eyes”, her voice was hoarse. Deep within, Shaman blood warred with Vampire blood.

“Blood will tell”, her grandmother had said. “Blood will tell”…

“Leave me here”, she said, reaching for a wall. Clinging to the feel of the solid wood beneath her fingers. “I need a moment and you cannot waste the time Ayeka. You must go on ahead. The battle within me is my own private war. When next you see me, I may be friend or I may be foe, so have a care dear friend. " I guess we are going to have to find that back door! Unless you dont mind a little burn!" Jalen screamed to Melean over all the commotion. If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

" Come on! Through the flames!" Jalen shouted to his companion. The knight dove through the flame filled doorway. Jalen stood up on the outside. His armor was slightly black from the burn of the fire.

Ayeka ran on, keeping her eyes stoicly on the road before her...refusing to look at the carnage around her. Anger could only be used so far....she feared that if she where to look at the death around her, she would be pushed over the edge.

She heard a soft growl as her only warning, and she spun at the last second, as four razor claws raked across her collarbone and shoulder. She stifled her cry and scrambled back. Her hand dropped her dagger, unable to hold it any longer.

The huge Wolfnari stared at her, it's yellow eyes glaring at her with an animalistic glee. "Foolish Noble...." It growled, it's black fur gleaming in the moonlight.

Ayeka bit back a scream of terror. The last time she had faced one of these creatures, it had nearly killed her. While the Pure-bloods allied themselves with the Canis Lupis, The Cursed enslaved a race of wolf-men. They where huge, six and a half feet tall at their shoulders, their necks where longer just like a wolf, and their heads where also wolfish. Huge jaws filled with sharp teeth. It's ears pricked in her direction.

"I smell your fear Noble-blood.....is it that you remember Blackfury?" the Wolfnari growled. "You should...when master find that you survive, he shamed Blackfury....Blackfury swore to kill Noble-Blood....regain honor and standing in pack...." It snarled as Ayeka realized that this was the same creature that had attacked her all those years ago.

"You!" She hissed.

"BLackfury will regain honor." He snarled and lowered his barbed spear. His howl filled the night and Ayeka watched him closely, her sword glinting in the silver moonlight.I'll be right there

OOC: Way Cool! I love the Wolfnari bit Kalia! Guyz- I take it that the imp-fest is over then? Hope you make it Waypoint soon…where is the master vamp these days?

IC: Darkness enshrouded her like a cloak. It seeped into her pores and her blood. She felt herself fading and lifted a hand before her eyes. The shock nearly numbed her.

What vampire trait was this? With wide eyes, she watched as her hand faded before her, and vanished into the darkness.

“I am invisible”, she said, and as she spoke the words, she knew that it was true. It was a vampire trait that she had not heard of before, but now it was hers, and she was determined to put it to use. To not let it scare her.

The scent of blood grew stronger as she traced Ayeka’s footsteps and then it began to mingle with another foul smell- one that was new to her. What nightmare awaits me behind this corner she wondered, and then she heard the words.

Jalen found Ayeka on the path. To his surprise she was in danger. She was fighting some wolf-man thing, very unknown to him to say the least. The knight gasped in fear. He didnt know if Ayeka needed his help, but he decided to do his part.

Jalen ran towards the wolfnari. His sword was held high and ready to strike. Jalen swung it, his timing way off. The knight managed to slice the wolf-mans arm off from his fore-arm down. The wolfman laughed as blood oozed out of the wound.

Jalen, feeling extremely threatened, rose his sword once more. The wolfman caught it in its swing with outstanding strength. The wolfman sent the knight flying to the ground with a swift kick in the gut with its powerful legs.

She turned the corner and saw to her horror than Jalen was wounded and lay bleeding on the floor. The stranger, called Melean, was by his side, and then her breadth caught in her throat as she looked ahead. Ayeka was fighting a huge animal with the head of a wolf. She was in danger.

Rowena drew a dagger from her belt and approached the dueling couple. She wondered if they sensed her, even though they could not see her.

"This." With a twist, Melean smacked Jalen's hands, breaking free of the knight's grasp and moving out of his reach. Unlacing one of his leather bracers, he tried to wrap the struggling knight together with it. Finding this futile, he grabbed hold of Jalen's hair and pulled him face to face.

"Listen closely, knight. The more you move, the more likely you are to die right here and now, and the more it's going to hurt later on. So I suggest that you lie quietly.""Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

Jalen gasped, reacting to the tightness of the brace around his gut.

" Lie down? Your awefully funny Melean! You expect me to let that wolf thing get away with this?" Jalen stated, motioning to his torn up gut.

The knight rose, blood leaking from his wounds under the brace. His leg had managed to get hurt when he landed on the path. The knight was limping towards the wolfnari.

" You'll.......pay." Jalen managed to mutter. The wolf dove on top of the knight, tackling him to the ground. The wolf man forced his barbed spear downward towards Jalen. The brace stopped it from killing him. Jalen managed to kick the wolfman off of him with all his might. The wounded knight staggered to his feet.

The wolf-man was closer than Jalen thought. Standing a mere two feet away, it snarled at the wounded knight threateningly.

" Now knight, you will die!" The wolf-man growled.

It opened its mouth wide, showing dozens of razor sharp teeth. It bit down on the knights armored shoulder, the lethal fangs managing to get through the steel. Blood seeped out within seconds. The wolfnari did not let go of its hold. It swung with great force then released the bite on the knight, sending Jalen flying to the path. In a matter of seconds a puddle of blood formed below him.

" Im..........sorry.............." Jalen whispered through his blood soaked lips. He had directed this to the three around him. He had failed them. His eyes closed, little life left in the knight. If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

Without hesitatting, Ayeka lept forward, her sword raised. The Wolfnari turned, and his eyes opened wide as he found her sword imbedded in his gut. Jennah snarled, and attacked the wolfnari. Her fangs tore into his throat, as Ayeka's sword was freed by the force of his fall.

Ayeka turned to Jalen. Though they had had their differences and fights, she did not want to see him die. "Jalen!?" She cried, her blue-violet eyes had a faint silver cast to them.

Jennah? Is there a way to help him? Something deep within the memory of the pack? She sent. The wolf looked up, her muzzle dark red with blood. She tilted her head, as though listening to something that was not within their hearing range.

Listen...you will hear The large white wolf sent back.

Ayeka strenghtend the bond between herself and Jennah. The grey tide washed over her mind....soothing the pain and the frustration. Memories flitted by, like dust in the wind, only a brief glance showed her vauge pictures.....finally other lupine voices filled her mind.

Spirit to spirit....blood to blood.....Sacrifice given, life returned.....

Ayeka's eyes opened, and met Jennah's mismatched ones. The wolf gave her a familiar lupine grin, tounge lolling out the side of her mouth. Without another word, Ayeka pulled the small dagger free from the boot sheath, and brought it down with a savage slash, flaying her hand open.

"I give what shall be freely taken....spirit to spirit...blood to blood." She lay her hand upon Jalen's chest, allowing her blood to seep through the damage of his armor. Many moments passed, before Ayeka, pale and shaking pulled back her hand......and waited anxiously.I'll be right there

Melean wasn't wasting a moment- his sword was out and by slow perferation he was mangling the wolfinari's head from its body. It was grisly and slow work, but it was currently the ranger's top priority to see the thing dead to his own satisfaction.

He looked to where his staff lay, some ten feet away. He had thrown it in the fashion of a spear when the wolf man had turned to confront Ayeka, landing a solid blow to the back of the beast's head. The shot had rebounded fiercely, not doing any apparent dammage but adding to the thing's confusion long enough for a true wolf to finish it.

May it ever be so, he thought as he finished his hacking and stabbing, and threw the now eyeless head off into the woods."Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

The dagger had done its work, distracting the wolf-like creature with tiny nips and bites while the knight had lain bleeding on the floor. Then Melean had stepped forward and Rowena had once more retreated into the darkness.

She saw that the wolf was dead and that Ayeka was tending to the knight. She was confident that the Vampire slayer would heal him. For the moment, they were safe; but she knew I would not last long.

She set her mind, concentrated hard and appeared like a flickering ghost, barely visible and only in a half-light, like the strange glow of moss in the dark forest.

“We must move on”, she said quickly, before the spell broke and she again vanished. “You must all hurry”, she urged, and it was no more than a whisper in the breeze.

Rowena had vanished again…leaving her comrades to meet the faceless challenge ahead, while she drifted onwards, marking a trail, which the lupine could scent, and follow.

Talen’s blood was now serving a reverse purpose. It was a homing signal that she used to track her prey. Soon she thought. Soon…

" Ay-Ayeka? Is that you?" The knight whispered. " You saved my life. But how?" Jalen asked. The knight felt a sudden feeling of regret. The same woman Jalen had mistrusted before had just saved his life.

Jalen was then lost in thought.
" I feel.....different....." Jalen grumbled. He looked at his shoulder. Five large holes were visible on his armor.

" When the wolf-man bit me.......I think it transmitted its blood into me. I will change into one of them. Leave me here. I do not want to have to hurt you!" Jalen roared in frustration. The knight was now up on his feet.

" Run! Hurry." Jalen demanded of the group. His face changed before them. It grew wider at the cheeks and grew somewhat of a snout, just like a wolfs. Dark hair began to grow immediately on his face.

Dark wings landed on the roof of the watchtower. The full moon glinted over dark scales. There was laughter. The sport had put fire into his blood.

There was a thud and the sound of rolling. Freefall, then another thud as the object landed on the grassy patch on the ground far below the rooftop.

It was wet and blurred by the tall grass. It was hard to define in the darkness but as the dark clouds passed by, blown away by strong winds from the sea, moonlight shone on the object and revealed its identity.
It was a severed head of Anoka.

On the roof, Taryn returned to his human form and looked out to sea. Tonight he would make the ship journey north, to his homeland; the arrangements had been but first he would rid himself of a longstanding problem.

BIC: Tayrn turned, and faced Touga in an instant. The pureblood balked, and backed away.

Tayrn smiled, his fangs gleaming in lunitari's bloody light. "You really think I'd just turn my back and allow you two to make a mockery of me? You ruin everything.....EVERYTHING!" He hissed, pulling free a sword that Touga hadn't noticed.

Moving with the speed of his people, Touga dodged the blow, drawing his own sword to meet Tayrn's in a shower of sparks. Shandra laughed gleefully as She two joined in wtih Tayrn....the young Lord wouldn't have a chance between the two of them

------------------------

Ayeka ran towards the forest, all forgotten in her mind, the knight, the girl, the villigers...only her brother was in her mind, driving her to the edge as she ran. She reached the clearing just in time to see Tayrn run Touga through, Touga's sword falling from his hand as he screamed in pain.

The silver blade flashed red from the combination of Touga's blood and Lunitari's light.

Ayeka’s scream of rage echoed through the hills, only matched by the fury in her eyes. Fear laced her voice, giving it an edge as sharp as the wind off of the Icewall glacier.

Tayrn laughed as he dropped Touga unceremoniously to the ground. The sword in his hand pulled free, stained red with Touga’s blood. Tayrn’s maniacal laughter filled the trees as he faded from sight.

Ayeka’s sword fell from her nerveless fingers as she dropped to her knees at her brothers’ side. She pulled out the small dagger from her boot, and with a vicious motion, slashed her wrist. Her blood welled immediately, staining the frost on the ground. Grimly she pillowed Touga’s head in her lap.

“Drink, my brother.” She whispered softly, tears filling her eyes.

With a surprising strength that made her gasp in pain, He grasped her wrist. But he did not bring the wound to his lips; instead he forced her hand away his grip staunching the flow of blood.

“No! You must! Or you’ll die!” She cried, struggling against his grip, she would gladly give her life for his.... If not for her, this never would have happened.

Touga winced and gasped for breath, a gasp that turned into a terrifying cough. “I’ll die anyway.... The blade...it... it was coated...wi-with silver...” The force behind his voice was nearly as strong as his grip on her wrist, and just as tangible. Ayeka stared at him, her eyes wide with shock.

“It was coated.... With silver powder...it’s burning from inside....” He choked. Slowly Ayeka moved so that she could see his face, her hands trembling.

“Let me die in the way of our people...” he gasped. Ayeka stared at his pale blue eyes and nodded. She clasped his hand in both of hers, and lightly kissed the pulse in his wrist.

“By the honor of our family” By the honor of our family

“By my honor as thy sister” By thy honor as my sister

“I take that what was thyne” ye take that what was mine

“So that ye may live on within myself So that I may live on within thee

“Thy blood forever in my heart, mind and soul“ My blood forever in thy heart, mind and soul

“Brother, I release thy spirit to the night” Sister, release my spirit to the night

“May ye find the peace and love” May ye find the peace and love

“That ye could not have in life That I could not have in life

Ayeka bit back a sob as her teeth found their mark, the flesh and pulse in his wrist yielding to her. His blood filled every fiber of her being. All that Touga Drache was, his pain, his sorrow, love and joy flowed into her, finally releasing her tears.

She let go as she watched the light in his eyes fade. With a sob she reached out and lay her hand on his chest as his heart beat one last, laborious time. Slowly she took her knife and cut a thick lock from his hair, which she tied with a leather strip, the dark red strands twisting around her fingers. She took a small crystal vial from a chain around her neck, and silently filled it with the last of his blood. She lay his hands across his chest, and lastly pulled the Drache Crest ring from his finger.

She gathered the long coil of his hair, the vial and ring close to her chest as she stood and backed away from him, her sobs now clearly audible. Softly a chant rose from her, the words old and exotic, words only rarely spoken on Krynn. A language from a long-gone tradition. The clouds above stirred and gathered. Lightning flashed... Then again. A third bolt streaked from the clouds to Touga’s body, engulfing it in flames. She watched till the flames had nearly died, her eyes reflecting the burning coals, then she turned away. The remorse was still there, lurking in her soul, but now it was augmented by a grim determination.

“TAYRN!!!!” She screamed her fury to the night sky, knowing that the Cursed One couldn’t possibly resist watching her suffer. “You’ve killed my mate...succeeding in tearing my youngest son from me, now you’ve killed my brother...I will not rest till I’ve killed you with my own hands!!!”

She turned and looked to Rowena. “I’ll not stop till the dirt drinks his blood and his soul is torn to shreds. I’ll not stand Idly by as this Monster tears apart another’s life.”

Within the forest, Nightshade’s anguished howl filled the night. The howls of the pack answered. Snarls and savage growls erupted from the forest, as Nightshade’s howl was cut short. Jennah’s eyes met Ayeka’s as they both realized that Touga’s partner asked the pack to end the pain, so that she could follow her Te’sorthene (heart-friend) on his journey.

“More blood stains His hands, and my soul...” She said as she sloughed the tears from her cheeks roughly.

Rowena: (I'm not exactly sure where we are at this point so I'm going to cheta a bit and pretend that we're all relatively in the same ares).

The girl heard the cry of the wolf as is shattered the still night. There was something unatural and unholy about the cry- almost as if it were a dirge and not the hunting song that most wolves sang at this time of night.

As she stared at the fallen hero at her feet and the woman who had fought so bravely and yet now was weepng so bitterly over the loss of ehr kin, a burning hatred began to grow in Rowena.

Too much life had been taken and lost this day. Even her own great grandmother had been a victim to Taryn's foul deeds.

In the distance she saw the flit of a white shadow in the darkness. The snow leopard watched all and waited for the command from his new mistress.

He waited for the command that would signal the beggining of the hunt- but this would be no ordinary hunt. It would be a deadly chase for a vicious killer. The time has come, the Walrus said, to speak of many things. Of ships and shoes and sealing wax. Of cabbages and kings.

BIC: Ayeka stared at Rowena, mildly shocked at the new confidance in the girl's eyes.

"This nightmare will be over soon" She whispered softly, her hand buried in Jennah's fur. She un-hooked the chain that hung around her neck. A pendant bearing the black rose crest of the Drache family...and slipped Touga's ring onto it. She placed the vial, and the now-braided lock of hair into a pocket, and turned to Jennah.

I will call the wolves.... She sent. Jennah's head snapped up and her mis-matched eyes bore into Ayeka's for a long moment.

Are you certain? The wolf sent back, worry in her grey voice. The look in Ayeka's eyes bore no argument.....and jennah threw back her head and howled. Even to those who didn't understand the howl felt the summons within it.

Ayeka was now surrounded by voices in a grey tide....she struggled to keep Jennah and herself a seperate voice in this ocean of howls....and when their mental voices mingled and became one solid grey cord in the song, Ayeka opened her eyes....to find nearly three score of wolves pacing before her and Jennah.

Two aged wolves, one male one female padded forward....

Why do you call? the male growled.

I call you Grey Ones....as my ancestors did.... Ayeka sent, in words and in images. the pack growled.

What do you offer for your vengence... came the snarling reply, as the female lowered her head, teeth bared.

The Hunt, the blood of the one that forced you to silence the howls of one of your own...that extinguished the light of one of mine....Hunt with me...

The male's yellow eyes glowed in the low light, his fangs bared in it's wolfish grin. Thrill of the hunt? Blood of the one who has killed both of our kind....

The female whined, and her ears lowered, her nose to the ground. The Grey Nightshade was my pup....I grieve for her death....We will hunt this one...with you...

As one the entire pack howled, the night filled with the sound, the power.....and the pack dispersed, their growls heard through the trees, the hunt had begun.

Ayeka moved through the raging pack....the wolfnari seemed gathered in one spot...in a semi circle in a small clearing. Jennah and the two aged ones kept to Ayeka's side...their growls filling her mind, clouding her eyes as she moved as one with the pack.

The wolfnari that opposed her where no longer creatures of fur and fang that sought to block her way, but merely vauge obsticals in her path....her eyes gleamed silver in the moonlight as she moved with the speed of the wolves.

wolves howled in pain, yelped in panic as their lives where crushed by the power of the wolfnari.... Wolfnari howled in rage as they saw their brethren fall to the fangs of the wolves under Ayeka's plea. Cries of rage and pain filled the air, while the earth was fed with their blood.

The scent of blood filled Ayeka's senses....and her hands clenched in a fight to control the beast within herself. Blood stained her clothing, her skin and her golden hair. Her fangs gleamed in the moonlight, though they where clenched in rage, and did not tear to kill. Her eyes darkened to a near bloody glow as she ran her blade through the last Wolfnari that stood in her way.

The bloody glow faded, and she fell to her knees as the wolves released her from their collective conciousness....her bloodied hands covered her face, so all she could taste, smell and see was the blood... She shook with the sheer power that the wolves had lent her.... and dreaded doing such a thing again....

The cries of the dying slowly faded, and she could feel Jennah at her side, whining softly, licking the blood off of Ayeka's hands and face. The white wolf was also covered in the blood of the dying and dead....and like Ayeka, none of it her own.

we fight the cursed one together... Jennah growled and grabbed hold of Ayeka's hand in her jaws, biting down just hard enough to bring Ayeka to her senses....

Ayeka's eyes cleared, and returned to their normal blue/violet stare...they blinked and retained a slight golden cast.

Together, as from the begining my friend... She sent back...remembering that day long ago in Sanction when they had first met Taryn...how he pretended to help her...only to attempt to kill her several nights later....

It had been nearly sixty years...what joy she had from that time on was destroyed by this cursed one....a vampire created by a pure blood, who lusted for the kill and the rush of power. Her younger son, stolen from her as a child and raised in Taryn's blood lust....though he no longer follows taryn....he is still lost to her...

Alucardt...Ayeka's only love and mate...after going seperate ways to find their younger son.. One day their contact was cut short, and she felt a searing pain in her mind....and had no contact with him since then.... Fearing the worse, AYeka struggled on through her life.

now, the final insult......the Death of her only connection with the Pure Blood Council...Her brother... Touga... Her tears came anew at the thought of him, and her hands clenched tight... He had once tried to stop her, thinking her wrong at hunting her own kind... Till the full story came out...and he helped to destroy that which had nearly destroy her, their father. After that, next to Kiri, the human that aided Ayeka all those years ago, He became her closest Confidant... Now he too was dead....her life was now in ruins....

And it was.....all......HIS Fault...

She stood up slowly, and looked up to the trees around her....and licked the blood from her lips.

"Alright Taryn...I know you're there...you can no longer hide from me..... Face Me..." She growled, and jennah's snarls joined her voice.

"Alright Taryn...I know you're there...you can no longer hide from me..... Face Me..." She growled, and jennah's snarls joined her voice.

A low chill laughter filled the forest. It grew louder and louder all around them. A strong gale blew as Taryn spoke, as whisper amongst the trees.
"Face you? How many times in the many years we have fought have I not faced you? Do you think I fear you or your dogs?"

The gale grew stronger and the crackling sound of snapping branches filled the air and then.....it soudenly stopped. Taryn stood before them, eyes gleaming read wit a cruel grin.

"Please......must we have an audience?" He looked disdainfully at the wolves who surrounded him.

He looked at the elder of the wolves as he spoke. "I assure i will not be as easy to kill as the wolfari. This is between me and her, I will deal with you and your kind soon enough.

"Come Ayeka, Show me your anger. TAKE your vengance...........if you can"

Taryn began to glow, a pulsatings colors of red, green and blue. The light getting brighter and brighter. He let out a sinister laugh as he taunted her.

"Come..................you know as well as I..................

Death is only the beining"Being wise is knowing that there is yet more to be learned.

“Do not listen to him” Rowena called out. She stood amongst the circle of the wolves, her eyes burning with a savage hatred and yet despite the animal-like ferocity of her thirst for revenge, their came was a calmness that was at odds with her wild state.

An old voice. An ancient voice. The song of the shaman’s was entering her blood and with it, a new calmness and cold practicality that defied the most human need for revenge.

“He means to push you over the edge with your hatred Ayeka. Do not let your emotions guide you in this for you will loose. That is what the cursed one seeks. To topple your balance and make you fall at his feet. I cannot allow that. You are my chosen champion Ayeka and you must fight this killer with a calm mind and a cold heart. Hot blooded you cannot win. Be steadfast. Be true. But above all else- be calm!”

Even as she spoke, she infused each word with her spirit magic. Swirls of soundless green and formless yellow began to gather from around the substance of the dark forest and began to take shape and form at the will of the young Shaman. She sent her will to surround the Drache, protect her mind, and numb her emotions.

Shield her rage… Temper her hot blood… Make her calm…
The time has come, the Walrus said, to speak of many things. Of ships and shoes and sealing wax. Of cabbages and kings.

Ayeka felt the cold indifference surround her heart, though both in heart and mind she flailed against it, she was never one to be a true cold-blooded killer....that was how Touga had once been, how Alucardt had once been.....

Tears filled her eyes as Alucardt's memory filled her mind...... The wolves suddenly scattered as a single howl filled the clearing. A second howl mingled with the first, and then Jennah tilted her head back.

The howls reached Ayeka as the shaman's magic couldnt... The packsong washed over her mind, a soft soothing grey. The voices within the grey where familiar, Jennah's bright full-throated voice, and then two more.....one vaugely familiar, as though she hadn't heard it in the song for some time, and the third.....

"No....It can't be....." She choked and turned, behind her, stood a man in a heavy cloak. whisps of platinum colored hair flowed free in the wind, torn free from the clasp at the nape of his neck. The wolf at his side was pitch black, with pale blue eyes.

He stepped forward and the moonlight struck him fully. Alucardt was there, the silver moon playing with the hilights of his hair, his amber eyes fixed on Ayeka with such an intense Emotion, she fell to her knees. He strode forward and caught her in his embrace.

"Shh.....hush now...." He whispered, his lips gently kissing her hair.

"how.....How?" She cried, her hands clasped together around her back. She sobbed softly, her face buried in the silk that covered his chest.

"I'll tell you how....with that Creature Listening as well. When we parted fifty years ago, to search for Adrian, I searched for many years alone with Billy." The black wolf at his side whined softly.

"It wasn't too long before I had been captured by that Fiend.... He caught me at a weak moment, I hadn't slept for a couple days, and I hadn't managed to feed... I was overpowered by those wolfnari Creatures of his.... I had been nearly drained in the fight, and was too easily subdued. I was imprisoned in a stone coffin, and was buried under stone."

Alucardt looked up, and then glanced over his shoulder. "I had help though.... " Two young men stepped forward, the first looked itentical to Alucardt, but he had Ayeka's violet/blue eyes. the pale grey wolf at his side had blue eyes. Ayeka pulled back.

"Jadrek?" She murmered seeing her elder son made her smile. It was when her eyes lit upon the second man that the joy of seeing Alucardt alive was reduced to shock, pure and simple.

The second man was identical to her brother, long dark auburn hair and pale, icy blue eyes.

"Touga....?" She whispered, the wanting to believe, the longing evident in her voice.

The young man shook his head. "No...." He said, and the timbre of his voice made her eyes widen.

"Adrian??" She stood slowly, and stepped forward, her step shakey. "Adrian? You're actually here?" She embraced her younger son, her tears falling into his hair.

"Mother...." He said softly, returning her embrace. "I Still follow my own path, but I heard Father's cries for mercy in his prison.... I had to help..... Blood is Blood, Family is more so.... I couldn't just turn my back again.

The four turned towards the clearing again, Ayeka, Aluardt, Jadrek and Adrian, looking more or less the same age, more friends than a true family....

"You've lost Taryn.... I still have my family.... Touga lives on within me...and always will....You sought to tear my youngest son from my side... yet he returns to help his family... My eldest still stands true by my side, and my mate, whom I thought had been torn from this world, and nearly had been by your hand.... We're all here now.... You've failed." She said, her head leaning against Alucardt's shoulder
