People do not give it credence that a fourteen year old girl could leave home and go off in the wintertime to avenge her father's blood but it did not seem so strange to Erin Fey.

It had been only two moons ago when a coward by the name of Corimer had murdered her father, the swordsmith of a small town called Silverdale. The swordsmith had refused to give up the newly fashioned sword to the man named Corimer, when he had offered only one tenth its true price.

Erin had come home to find her father lying dead on the floor of their house, the new sword of which he had been so proud- stolen. There had been nothing left for her in Silverdale. The townspeople had always been wary of her because of her half-breed ancestry. She had left soon after they had buried her father.

She had been trailing Corimer for some time. The man was a skilled ranger and the task had not been easy. The girl hid herself in the shadows and watched as the man stepped into the tavern. She waited in the dark, like an assassin. Her weapons were two daggers with ebony handles. Her father's work. His best. She tresured the two daggers. They were all she had left of ther father. Soon she would reclaim the sword. She warned herself to be patient.

When he came out of the inn, he would come out drunk. He would be an easy target.

She feared no danger, for she knew no sin.
Doomed to death, though fated not to die.
Panting and pensive now she ranged alone,
And wandered in the kingdoms once her own.

Leto leant back in his seat, looking at his hand as the elf opposite him threw in a few more chips to equal Leto's stake. The shapeshifter's black eyes tryed over the mintoaur to his right he snorted in annoyance and folded. Leto looked at his cards as the dealer passed him another, a Fool - the Naga showed no evidence of his pleasure, mreely waiting to see if the elf would put in this round.. IC: Erin waited in the cold. She shivered and let out a long sigh. Her breadth drifted skyward before her eyes like a plume of white smoke.

What the devil was keeping him. She did not think it very fair that while she was chilling her body to the bone in the dark of the night, the ranger remained inside the inn- warm and safe.

She gritted her teeth together. She had to decide soon what to do.

"Another round?"

"Aye."

"Yeah - I'll put in."

Leto raised an eyebrow at the Elf,

"And you?"

"As ever."

Leto sat back, to watch the deal. Until the ranger had come, he'd been doing best by far, but the ranger was having quite uncanny luck. Whilst Leto was certainly not making a loss, the ranger seemed to win all the biggest bets.

He looked down at his hand,

"Raise twenty.""Ah, they have a cave troll....."

He who loses wealth loses much; he who loses a friend loses more; but he who loses his courage loses all.

Her father's words haunted her. She would not loose her courage now. Gritting her teeth together, Erin stamped life back into her frozen feet and cautiously made her way to the door. Inside waited her enemy. Her eyes darkened. Her fingers turned numb from their tight hold on the twin daggers.

Leto growled at the back of his throat, the minotaur echoing his displeasure as Corimer gathered up his new winnings. Then a newcomer caught his eye just beyond Corimer, a girl with a pair of daggers drawn.

Imperceptably Leto tensed, ready to spring in any number of directionsat a moment's notice. Or change. There was always that to fall back on."Ah, they have a cave troll....."

"Corimer" she shouted. "Turn around".

She would not attack him when his back was turned, even though he deserved it. Erin could feel her heart rise into her throat. She swallowed hard and tried to control her racing heartbeat.

She hoped the ranger would not know that she had never killed a man before. She reminded herself why she was here. Reminded herself that this man was a murderer and was responsible for the death of her father. Blind hatred fuelled her. Her grip on the daggers tightened.

“Stand back” she warned the others in a strong voice that hid her fear. “The ranger and I have some business to attend to”.

Brik Sureblade sat on a stool by the bar. The dwarf sat alone, simply enjoying the dwarf spirits running down his throat. He was wearing chainmail armour, there was a handaxe on his belt and a greataxe, generally strapped to his back, sat leaning against the foot of the bar. The dwarf had brown hair and a well groomed beard(of course).

Brik's ears perked up at the girls shout. He turned around to see what was happening. Dear Reorx! the girl could not have reached her sixteenth birthday and hear she was challenging an obviously skilled ranger. Brik's hand dropped to the greataxe: he would not watch this young girl killed by this man...

ooc: cool! Send him my regards.

ic: Erin waited for the ranger to turn about. He did so slowly. Even though she was young and inexperienced, her quick eyes noted the hand that slipped under the ranger’s cloak.

Corimer turned around. He was a tall man, but then all men were tall to a girl who had not yet reached her full height. His face was marked with scar that ran down the side of his face. I will give you one to match it on the other side, she promised herself. That is before I end you.

The ranger was surprised to see a young girl standing before him. For a moment, he had thought that there might be a danger present. Then his eyes lit on the twin daggers. They were an attractive pair. Something about them drew his attention.

“Do you know me?” the girl shouted. The ranger grinned.

“Go home brat” he rebuked, and made to turn about again. The cards had favored him tonight.

“I am Erin Fey,” the girl shouted. The ranger froze. “You killed my father. Prepare to die!”.She feared no danger, for she knew no sin.

OOC: This is just too funny! Erin is going to throw a fit!

IC:

Dark eyes swung from the ranger to the sudden appearance of the dwarf. Her teeth chattered, she knew not whether it was from anger or the cold.
Her blood filled with impotent rage and frustration.

Perhaps it was ludicrous that she try to match her skill against that of the full grown ranger but she had tracked him for days and now she had finally found her target, she was not about to let him escape so easily, and this dwarf….so incensed with rage was she that she forgot for the moment to keep a watchful eye on Corimer. She glared instead at the dwarf.

“Sir” she said with as much politeness and calm as her heated blood and thirsty blades could muster. “I know you must mean well but I do not think you understand the reasons behind our quarrel”. She feared no danger, for she knew no sin.

Corimer was slowly drawing his hand from under his cloak, Leto watching calmly from behined him. Then the ranger dislodged something from his sleeve, a handfull of cards fluttered down ot the floor. There was a moment's silence, then a crash as the minotaur and Leto stood up in unison - overturning the table and tossing it aside like so much firewood.

Leto's unblinking eyes fixed on the ranger,

"Corimer."

The ranger looked at Leto puzzled, then noticed the cards on the floor. With a sudden movement he dived for the door, a knife thudding into the Minotaur's leg he charged - Leto only just dogeing the one that came his way. But he was cheated of his target by the falling body of the injured Minotaur, by the time he had freed himself and opened the door, the ranger was gone."Ah, they have a cave troll....."

"No!" Erin cried out in distress. She tried to run after the ranger but he was too fleet and had made good his escape before she even reached the door. She stared into the darkness, here eyes unable to believe that he had escaped her. No! It was inconceivable. Her hands balled into tight fists. Daggers drawn, she turned angrily to confront the dwarf.

“Curse you dwarf!” she screamed at the top of her lungs. “Your interference has robbed me of the satisfaction of slaying that coward!”. Here eyes blurred with unshed tears. She wanted to strike out. The need to fight something, anything burned inside her.

She charged at the dwarf like a bull in a china shop, blindly and without thought. The seasoned veteran was easily able to defend himself and Erin found herself crashing into the side of the bar. She lay in a crumpled heap on the floor, and began to weep.

“I had him”, she kept saying over and over again, even though in her heart, she knew that she would not have stood a chance against the ranger.

Brik hadnt meant to hurt the girl, it had been reflex. Misinterpreting her tears, he knelt beside her placing a hand on her shoulder, he tried to calm her, "There there, my dear, i didnt hit you that hard. You'll be alright before you're married as they say!" he gave a half-hearted laugh he wiped away one of the girls tears. "Its okay, little Mistress. Come on, stand up, there you go," Brik helped the girl to her feet "Bartender, something, anything hot to drink, for the young lady. Nothing alcoholic mind, shes only young."

He winked at the girl and then realized he didn't know her name.

Erin allowed the dwarf to pull her to her feet. She angrily rubbed her eyes. It was not befitting to cry so openly, and especially in front of strangers.

“I am Erin Fey,” she said proudly. “And that ranger killed my father and stole his sword. I mean to make him pay for his crime”. Her eyes dared the dwarf to argue with her. She sniffed angrily.

She knew what she had to do. She had to follow Corimer's trail, again. But she was chilled to the bone and a drink might help to heat her blood. A real drink. She told the bartender so.

The minotaur swore, and loudly as well. Then he sighed in defeat and aquiessed to Leto's offer. The shape-changer leant on the bar and turned to Erin,

She knew that she was doing this as much for her own satisfaction as for her father’s memory. Hatred had been quick to spring into her blood when she had discovered the dead body. It had taken a firm hold of her. Hate was eating her up inside.

“I will kill him” she promised.

The elf had simply watched the commotion from his corner of the tavern near the fire. He usually found it best to stay out of other people's affairs, but he wasn't about to let a young girl with a death wish go on a crusade to kill a seasoned ranger with no help except that of a wounded minotaur, a man with a gambling problem and a... a dwarf of all creatures! The young girl was taller than the dwarf and she herself looked like she wouldn't reach his ribs-what could a fat little dwarf do? {I suppose if he has his legs amputated from the knees the girl could try to do something with her knives-the dwarf's axe could see to that but they need an elf's keen hearing and vision-and my bow will surley save them more than once... I can't simply let them wander off to their death...} Thought the elf to himself as he made his way over to the motley crew of would-be adventurers.
"Let me introduce myself",he began, and with a flourish of his cloak continued "I am Rynelf Lothloren, though most people call me Scarloc, to track a ranger you need a ranger and Iam willingh to lend my services." He announced while hitching his bow slung across his back and dropping a hand to his sword belt where his elven long-knives hung.
Scarloc took a stool beside the dwarf with a grimace and orderde a bottle of the tavern's best wine from the barkeep.

By now, Erin’s belly was aching from laughter and her eyes were wet with tears. She had not laughed so hard for a very long time. Her eyes glowed with admiration.

“It seems that it is not only my daggers that I must remember to keep sharpened in your joint company”, she said. She nodded to Leto and to the approaching elf. “Sleep then!”, she agreed, for she was ready to collapse from exhaustion. Erin downed the ale with more enthusiasm than sense. She had never tasted such a heady brew before and it had been two nights since her last meal. The results were inevitable.

“But I warn you Master Leto”, she slurred her words, as she leaned heavily against the bar, one foot sliding under the other in a vain struggle to stay upright and trying to imitate the same manly pose that the other three men seemed to carry of so easily.
[She had always been a tomboy at heart, and having lost her mother at a young age, there had only been her father for a role model. In truth, Erin hardly knew how girls acted at times, having always shunned the tangling skirts and dresses for a pair of breaches that made climbing trees and fighting far easier to accomplish. She had always been rash, impetuous, mad, headstrong and there had been no mother to say her nay. Perhaps the company of some seasoned veterans would teach her to think before acting. She knew it was her greatest weakness].

“When we find Corimer- he is mine. He may have cheated you of a few coins Leto, but he cheated me of a father. I get to kill the coward”, she said with a lust for blood that was abnormal to hear form the mouth of one so young.

Eagle eyes watched as the dwarf left for his room. Erin staggered to the fire, and crouching by its side, stared into the flames and brooded. I will kill him. She repeated the mantra in her head, almost every night. It was not long before the hot fire and the warm ale sent her to sleep, her hands still curved about the dagger’s hilt.

She dreamed the same dream almost every night. Her mind replayed her father’s funeral. “You can’t do this”, Erin was shouting as the town’s baker took her hand. The town council had held a meeting. It had been decide that the widow Langfield could use a new apprentice. “I don’t want to be a bloody baker!” she had shouted. No one had listened to her. That night, she had run away.

She was a light sleeper. An honest answer her companion had asked. Erin hid her smile under her hand. She wondered if a rabbit counted, but she guessed that Leto was in no mood for humour. She rolled over, closer to the warmth of the fire and pretended to sleep. Her cloak had acted as her blanket on many nights before.

“Hundreds”, she murmured, pretending to be half-asleep. She may not have actually killed a man before but she could throw a blade with the sure eye of an elf. Let him think what he wants, Erin thought. When the time comes, I will get Corimer. That was all she cared about.

She awoke early, out of habit. The girl rolled over, and rose to her feet, rubbed the soreness from her muscles. She jingled the precious coins in her purse and then walked over to the bar and purchased bread and milk. The milk she drank straight away. The bread she tucked away for the journey.

She finally turned to face the man who had kept the nightly vigil, by the fireside. Eagle eyes searched his expressionless face. Erin was lost for words. She was not used to such feelings. Her emotions were mixed. She did not trust easily. Life had taught her not to. But….she let the subject slide. It was a territory that she did not wish to wander into at so early an hour.

She watched as one by one, others began to gather from above stairs. Some alone. Some with breakfast half-eaten in their hands, and some with their arm around a tavern wench.

Scarloc entered the tavern common room. He scanned the scene before him-he was silently angered by the fact that the gambler had woken before him, the girl had probably been awake all night-she was young and inexperienced, she probably didn't know how hard tracking the ranger would despite what the gambler had said-she would need all the sleep she could get. At least that damned dwarf was nowhere to be seen.
{Perhaps if I crawl I would be close enough to the ground to see him!}.
The elf tucked a golden braid behind his ear as he made his way over to the girl and the gambler.
"That dwarf must still be sleeping off the paint-stripper he seems to enjoy drinking" he mused. Then, seeing that none of his new-found companions found his humour funny in the least, he continued un abashed;
"We must gather supplies for our journey, I will return within the hour."

“Um…supplies? Yes, of course, supplies!”. She nodded to the minotaur and hoped that her ignorance was not showing too much. Her light-brown eyes mirrored her confusion. “What supplies would you recommend, Leto? I usually get by with just the bare necessities. I have my water-flask. My cloak doubles well enough as a blanket. I have my daggers with which to fight. And I have bought bread for the journey”. She shrugged her shoulders, her eyes searching his for an answer. "Will you not need a whetstone to keep your daggers sharp? And a set of flints to start a fire when it is cold?"

He reached out and picked up the daggers, inspecting them with an expert eye,

"These are finely made, true masterpieces. But what will you do if they are taken, or broken? What will you do if you face someone with a crossbow. Like all rebellious teenagers the world over, Erin did not take kindly to criticism, especially when it rang with something suspiciously close to the truth. Yellowish-brown eyes glared the anger at the man before she snatched back her daggers, putting them away with short jerky movements.

“I have survived thus far”, she said. “I will acquire the whetstone and flints as you advise; but as for the other- have a care with your words. When the time comes, I will prove as skilled as any of you”. She turned her back on him and rubbed the back of her hand across her nose. This quest was becoming more demanding with each day. Now it seemed she would have to prove her steel before she would even be allowed to draw her dagger.

“Would you care to test me, Leto?” she challenged. It was impulsive, reckless and foolish. It summed up Erin Fey in a nutshell.

He spied Erin and Leto near the fire, "Well? What are we waiting for? Wheres that bloody elf!? Probably still sucking his thumb, wrapped in his nice warm sheets!" Then he stood and shifted aside a group of tables, creating a kind of path from where Erin stood to the other side of the inn, where he turned to face her, standing stock still,

The temptation to use Leto as a target was very strong at that point but Erin did not think that would be the best way to make friends. Friends she thought rarely threw knives at each other. But how would she know. She had not exactly been big on friendship. She had found the girls and their fascination with ribbons and dresses, far too annoying and boys had found her tomboy ways very strange.

She fixed her eyes instead on the point at the window, where the two slats of wood crossed over each other. Her silver blade flew constant and true to its mark. The fact that the mark was but a mere inch from Leto’s big nose, was an added bonus.

“Darn”, she said, with a half-smile. “I missed you”.

OOC: RIP Erin!

IC:

Whoa, thought Erin. Major head rush. However, she wasn’t a complete fool. One more throw and she’d have no daggers left at hand, and Leto looked like a man who was out to prove a point. One that would prove very painful to her backside, she had no doubt of that!

“Point taken” she said. “Now would you mind returning my dagger, or must I fight you for it?” her tone was calm and reasonable. A complete cover up to her true state.

She withdrew her second dagger, toyed with the hilt for a while and then met his gaze straight on, her own light brown lit with defiance. “Or shall we find Corimer and fight him instead?”. Damnation, she thought. How in hell did she manage to get herself into these tight spots?

She’d always had quick reflexes. She figured she might be able to catch the dagger if he threw it back at her. Just barely.

If she had wrist guards, she might have been able to knock it to one side without fear of injury. She made a mental note to buy some as soon as they neared a shop. That was if she survived that long.

Her eyes swelled into saucers as she watched Leto zoom off, as fast as streak of lightning. She gazed forlornly at her pony. Well a girl had to learn to ride at some point and now was as good a time as any. Taking a leaf from the dwarf’s book, Erin kicked her heels into the pony’s flank and set off in the trail set by Leto with as much courage and speed as she and the pony could muster.

Erin scrambled to where Brik was lying on the ground and peered at his arm. It did not look good but the dwarf looked as if he was prepared to fight, undaunted by his injury. She took courage from his strength and drew her own twin daggers from their nest. She kept low to the ground, her every nerve on alert for the flying arrows.

This was not about Corimer- surely; no ordinary elf could have such powerful friends. She wondered if they had been caught in a net intended for another.

She sighted one of the mercenaries, firing arrows from a vantage point, behind a giant oak. Her diminutive size allowed her to sneak up to the larger man unnoticed. Her attack was swift and sweet. A dagger in the jugular and the second in through the heart, just for the sake of completeness. The man was dead, but not before, he had given fare warning to the other nearby.

Leto’s words came back to haunt her. Daggers were fine but they took time to be withdrawn from the dead body. Time that she did not have.

She did what any person in her position would do as the leering mercenary stepped closer and took aim with a metal crossbow.

She dragged it out quickly and rammed it full on into the mercenary’s stomach. The man doubled over, and while he was regaining his breadth, Erin quickly cocked an arrow and sent it flying into the man’s forehead. At such a close range, there was no chance of missing. He fell, dead.

Erin spun round, her ears pricking for the sound of approaching danger, as she loaded another arrow. For the moment, she was safe. She ran back to the injured dwarf. In the clearing, the elf was fighting, hand to hand, with another assailant. Brik was fending them of with his war axe. But there was no sign of Leto? She wondered if the snake-man had been injured and then she had no time to think at all as another mercenary charged her from out of the bushes. She let fly with her arrow.

She could see that Leto and the elf were busy. A grin took over her face. She blew them a kiss and ran away. She would find Corimer first…it was the way it was meant to be…her heart was racing as she skipped onto her pony and left a dust trail in her wake. To be or not to be, ay there's the point,

Leto would have smiled as she turned to face the elf, but since his face was as ridgid as any snake's he merely lashed out with his broad tail - catching the mageling hard around the back of the head. His tounge flickered out in the direction that the girl was running in, then swore in a very silibant voice,

"Elf - take the mageling on your horse, we can interrogate her when she wakes up. The girl won't last long if we don't catch up with her.""Ah, they have a cave troll....."

She woke up a couple of hours later, riding on a horse to Majesty-knows-where. Realizing that she was still supposed to be unconsious, she kept her limp posistion and watch the lizard as he rode off along with the elf who had 'tricked' her into turning backwards. tracing the throbbing in her head to the back, she figured that the lizard had hit her in the back of the head with his very strong looking tail. a glance at the elf showed that neither of them knew she was awake, and so it would be kept that way.

"Elf blah blah blah! Elf do this, elf do that! Elf blah blah blah! That's all I ever hear from these people, why doesn't that bloody good-for-nothing Dwarf do something for a change? I'll show them!" Said Scarloc to himself gesturing wildly with his hands (as he always did when he was angry), and with a backhand, accidentaly knocked the mage back into unconsciousness.Sola Virtus Invicta!! Getting bored of carring around dead weight and seeing that Stepper was slowing under the weight of the fat little mage with the weird eyes Scarloc dismounted, untied her from the back of his fearless steed and threw her unconscious body into the river that ran alongside the river.

"Let's see what her mercenaries do for her now!!"

Remounting stepper he called to the dwarf "Master dwarf, this place bores me and I'm sure you don't want mistress Erin to get into any trouble-let's blow this joint!!"

He then heeled stepper's flanks and galloped off in the direction of Leto and Erin. (resisting the temptation to click his fingers and transform stepper into an F-14)Sola Virtus Invicta!! (Alone Courage Is Undefeated!!)

The Draconian village was situated in the heart of the dense forest, far away from humans and Elven settlements, and it was the last place on Krynn that Erin had expected to find shelter from the sudden storm that had left her lost, alone and drenched through on the muddy track.

When the scouting party had at first seized her and taken her to their camp, she had expected the fierce looking Draconians to throw her into a cage and roast her for dinner. It was the usual tale told to disobedient children when they were naughty and Erin had been that many times! It was a tale her father had threatened her with numerous times to gain her co-operation- ‘Be good or the Draconians will eat you!’.

She had been very frightened at first but her fears had soon subsided when the Draconians had sheltered her in one of their wooden cottages, sat her by their fire and shared the profit of their morning’s hunt with her.

Their use of the common tongue had been hard to interpret but she had soon managed to work her way through the thick inflections and accents and had managed to communicate her gratitude to them. She had also discovered that they too had been aware of the mercenaries stalking the forest of late, and due to the larger numbers of the mercenaries, the Draconians had thought it prudent to remain hidden rather than force a direct attack against them.

Erin found it surprising that she was now making friends with a race who a hundred years ago, her great grandfather had been battling with in a deadly war. To be or not to be, ay there's the point,

OOC: so we can just kill other players now? sweet!

IC: for some unknown reason, Brik picks up his axe and hacks at scarlocs horses legs. Scarloc falls to the ground, looks up at the dwarf, just in time to see the great axe come down and kill him _ SMUSH!

Brik wipes off the blood and walks back to Thorbardin

Leto had left the other two somehere back down the road - they'd begun fighting about something and he hadn't deigned to intervene. He'd tasted the Draconians some way back, and reasoned that even if they hadn't caught Erin they would be his best bet at finding her in time.

As he arrived in the Draconian village, he remained in his gigantic half-serpent form. The sentries had already run back and were returning with a group of high-ranked warriors. And he could taste Erin here as well."Ah, they have a cave troll....."

The elf's ghost trailed the fat little dwarf back to the dingy little tavern in Thorbardin where he first met the group of adventurers.

{He kills me, I'll haunt him!}

And that is just what the ghost of the elf did, for months, he followed the hairy, tubby little creature around ridiculing him and belittleing him until the dwarf himself simply snapped and committed suicide. It really wasn't a pleasant sight but the dwarf had it coming!!
