OOC: I've been around these forums for quite some time now, however, i never had the guts to start a thread myself. This will be my first. I would like this story to go fairly far. Im also looking for a lot of drama between the companions. Im thinking about only taking six.

Your character must get a letter in the beginning and go to the secret council. I will choose the characters that best fit in with the story. I dont want multiple of the same class, same races are fine with me though. So post you character and ill see what i can do! :)

IC: Kozad strolled down the streets of Bartonsville, his thick cloak wrapped around him tightly. His black boots crunched the snow beneath him as he walked back to his small home. He opened the door slowly and walked in, placing his cloak on a hanger by the entrance.

Kozad relieved himself of his leather tunic and plopped it on the floor. His long, fire red hair was now blotched with little white patches of snow. Kozad was a brawler, nothing more. He fought for money at local taverns and inns. He had a big fight that night. He fought a male minotaur who nearly took his head off. Kozad rubbed his neck, where the minotaur slammed him with it's large hammer. After icing it a while, he decided to train a bit for his next match.

Kozad held his axe tightly in his hands. He began shadow-fighting in front of a large mirror, his large muscles tensing with each move. Suddenly, in the reflection he caught site of an envelope on the kitchen table. He turned around and took the letter in his hands. It had a symbol of a griffin stamped onto it.

" What the hell is this?! No mail on sundays!" Kozad ripped open the envelope in a hurry.

Kozad began to read to himself...

" Kozad,

I have seen you fight, you are good, but not that good! Come to the council in the forest. I do not have to give you anymore directions, you will know where to go. Bring everything you'll need with you. Believe me Kozad, you wont want to leave anything behind....

Signed,
Anonymous"

"Hmmm." Kozad looked at the letter once more. His gaze went to the window. He looked out at the snow covered tree line and saw a white stag dash by into the trees.

" This must be some sort of prank! Im goin to teach someone a lesson!" Kozad told himself as he strapped his axe to his back. He was about to leave when he decided to bring some more things, just incase he's there a while.

After getting on his leather tunic and filling his a large pack with bread and wine, Kozad put on his cloak and walked out into the snowy night........If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

Kozad was having trouble following the stag. It never stopped, making Kozad do the same. Suddenly the white stag came to an opening. No snow covered the grounds within the circle of trees. Seven carved logs made a circle within the area.

" Take a seat." spoke a calm voice. Kozad jumped in alarm. From the trees came a man dressed in white robes. A hood covered the mans face.

" You have gotten my letter Kozad?" the man asked stroking the stag.

" Yes I have. Who are you?" Kozad asked, wondering what was holding him back from unstrapping his axe.

"Shhhh! All will be answered. Now take a seat and wait for the others. They will be here shortly." The white robed man sat down in a larger wooden log than the others. On its backed was carved a griffin.

Kozad looked around at the other six logs. Each had a different symbol on the back. Kozad saw one with a bear. He took a seat in the log and saw the mage nod to him. Now all Kozad had to do was wait.If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

OOC: I'd like to run an elven ranger, my standby character, if that's alright by you. This looks promising.

IC:

A moment later, the white robed man turned his head to the forest, though Kozad saw and heard nothing. He lifted his voice, though his tone remained conversational. "Pray, do not lurk, Tanarias. Your seat, too, is prepared."

A minute or so later, a figure in leather armor stepped forwards. Over him was draped a heavy woolen winter cloak, and over that was a sort of net, laced with overlapping pine branches. Snow covered the mantle, giving him the appearance of a walking tree. In one hand he held a longsword, but Kozad, as a fighter, could see that he was not in a guard position. The other hand balanced a large log on his shoulder. He glided into the clearing with silent steps, and a grace that made him part of the landscape. Throwing back his hood, he revealed sharp elven features, his hair black and eyes blue.

Looking around the circle, he moved past Kozad to a log inscribed with a wolf, then paused. He ran his hand over the symbol, paused, then turned and made his way to the next seat, inscribed with a tree. Settleing himself, he pulled his hood back up against the cold, and waited."Eyes that fire and sword have seen,
and horrors in the halls of stone,
shall look at last on meadows green,
and trees and hills they long have known."

OOC: I'd be honored to have you in this thread. :)

IC: The white mage nodded to the ranger. Kozad was still very confused, but decided to be patient.

" I did not mean to startle you two with the letter, this is very urgent. I am Darlius, mage of Winter. I doubt you two have ever heard of me, but now is no time for isolation. I will speak of the problem at hand when the other four get here. Please be patient, get to know each other. This will be your new family, if any of you break away from the rest of the group, you will all fall. Speak with one another till the others return. I must retrieve something very important to the council." Darlius carefully mounted the white stag and slowly galloped off behind the trees.

Kozad felt an urge to speak with the other man.

" So, you got a letter too? Strange how you knew where to sit, same thing happened with me. I just felt it, ya know?" Kozad eyed the logs suspiciously.

" I guess these carvings represent our personalities." Kozad said, thinking about how he related to a bear.If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

A family... if so, then I do not know how long my path can lie with this circle.

The elf spoke, still hidden by his hood.

"I recived my letter from a corpse. I had hunted a band of goblins northwards from my homeland, traveling many leauges to find them. When I came upon them, I found afterwords that one of them carried a letter, adressed directly to myself. It was then that the stag appeared, and the rest I am sure that you know.

Shrugging a bit under his mantles, he let a pack fall to the ground behind him and shifted the log that he carried so that he could look down the length of it. Drawing a dagger from somewhere, he becan to make cuts in the top of the wood.

"My name is Tanarias Halflight. The tree has ever been my sign, for I am sentinel and shelter, watcher of the world. The humans call me a ranger, and that will do between ourselves.""Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

Kozad looked curiously at the mantle, still not understanding a thing.

" Im Kozad. I fight for money. I cant think of why i would be given the bear seat. It is strange that you found your letter that way. Odd how you happened to run into it. I am sure Darlius meant for you to find it without you getting hurt." Kozad unstrapped his battle axe and began stroking the sharp blade.

Out of the trees came Darlius once again. He dismounted the white stag and walked back over to the griffin symboled log. He sat down and Kozad noticed the wrapped up object on his lap.

" Is that what you went to get?" Kozad asked, pointing at the wrapped item.

" Quiet! You must wait for the others. Let me rest now. You two shall speak more, do not wake me till all who can arrive." Darlius leaned back his head and closed his eyes.

Kozad sighed.
" I hope the others get here soon....."If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

A young woman walked into the clearing. She wore the garb of a tracker...leathers of finely dyed colors, greens, and browns. Her hair was a mass of Auburn curls, that was gathered at the nape of her neck, decorated with owl feathers.

She had a bow slung over one shoulder, and a light sword at her hip. A large snowy owl flew into the clearing, flying silently till it landed on a branch high above the long inscribed with an owl. The woman's emerald eyes narrowed at the sight of the group gathered there. she walked over slowly, sitting down carefully at the log marked with the owl, her hand on the hilt of her sword.

She watched the group silently, not inclined to speak unless they asked something of her.We dare to ask for more

Tanarias' knife paused in its work as, one after the other, the next two companions took their seats. Humans... but they are clearly kin.

The elf deliberately laid asside his work and pulled back his hood. Standing, he made a bow to the woman and a nod to the man, who was seated next to him. He spoke in Elvish, the tounge of the Silvanesti.

"Mae govannen, tauredain. Endil Tanarias Halflight."
(Well met, people of the woods. I am Tanaris Halflight.)

Sitting again, he took up the log and dagger again, continuing to score the face of the wood."Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

"That they are not."

The owner of the cold voice stepped out of the shadow of the trees, darkened steel armour concealed every inch of flesh, the breastpalte and shield emblazoned with a grinning skull symbol, overlayed on a Death Lily. The Knight walked into the clearing and sat down on one of the logs, engraved with a coiling Red Dragon and a Death Lily. He kept his faceless helm on, and made no move towards the large sword that hung at his side, merely sitting and waiting."Ah, they have a cave troll....."

IC: Kozad grabbed his axe in alarm as the new three came to the council. There was still one empty log. Kozad decided to wake Darlius. The warrior rose and walked over, eyeing the others suspiciously. He tapped Darlius on the shoulder. The mage woke instantly.

" Is everyone here Kozad?" Darlius whispered.

" Just about...." Kozad was cut off by the mage.

" THEN DO NOT WAKE ME!" Darlius drew his hood over his head and went back to sleep.

Kozad walked back to his log and plomped down. He was getting impatient. He decided to introduce himself.

" I am Kozad, proffesional fighter. This is all very odd. We should get to know each other a bit more. Darlius, the mage who wrote the letters, said something about us being a family or something. So share your names and i am curious to know how you each got your letters." Ashlynne cleared her throat. she was greeted by curious and indifferent stares. She met each in turn...acknowleging some, glaring in contempt at others. "I am known as Ashlynne Uth Solun." She looked at the owl that remained pearched above her head in the tree.

"I am a proffesional Merc, I recieved my letter through Crystal there....I had no Idea who sent it, but I am between campains right now...my company was disbanded." she sat back sullenly, her green eyes dark and brooding. Tanarias' blue eys narrowed at the approach of the dark paladin and sparkled hearing Ashlynne's story. His voice was soft but slippery, held in a tone that might have been intended as curious, skeptical, amused, or threatening, depending on the listener.

"A mercenary with a trained animal is a rare one indeed, the more so when the animal is a creature such as an owl. A bird of that sort takes only to a wise and skillful hand. I hear echoes of the wolf's comment here.

But as for you, blackguard, your tale is hardly more than your armor. I could say much, but I am loath to lecture. Perhaps you will hear my discourse in time, if you prove what I know about knights to be true."

The elf had continued working steadily with his knife. Setting it asside now, he reached into his bag and drew forth a small hammer and chisel. He set the chisel into one of the cuts he had made, then started carefully splitting the log with it.

Two mercanaries, a wolfkin, and a blackguard. I almost fear to think what our last companion will be... a goblin, perhaps?"Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

" You do not need me to answer that. Ask the knight." The mage awoke for the response then fell right back to sleep.

"Yes Tanarias, perhaps I should." Kozad strapped his axe to his back, still staring at the knight with hatred.

" If you only knew how many times i've had to defend my village from HIS people, then maybe you would understand elf." Kozad walked back to his log, keeping an eye on the knight.

At that moment the mage awoke.

" I sense tention." Darlius rose from his log and began to pace around the circle. Everyone sat now except for him.

"This is good, very good." The mage said, somewhat to himself. " Rashima, why are you so quiet? You five may speak some more. We must give the sixth a chance to get here. We will wait an hour. 12/13/2002 9:09 AM

OOC: Queshu Warrior, you don't mind if I join, do you?

BIC: Airiana walked through the trees to the circle. There was only one log left. Seeing a Dragon and what looked like the Heart-Emerald around her neck, she knew the seat was for her.

Airiana appeared to be a beautiful Elf. Her hair was long and black, held up in a high-ponytail with a material that seemed to change colour-- it went from silver to red and back again, but only as the light caught it. Her clothing was minimal; a long silvery-red robe and knee-high stained-red leather boots. Her eyes were large, almond-shaped, and silver in colour. Her skin held a dark tan and an beauty that could take your breath away.

She was extremely graceful and as she walked to her seat, she seemed more to float than actually walk. She looked at each person as she made that walk, that walk that seemed to take forever as they were all staring intently at her. It made her nervous, because she doubted that she could protect herself against so many if they decided to attack, in this form anyways.

The Heart-Emerald around her neck changed in colour to green, showing how nervous she was. She sat in the log-chair, if you could call it that, and continued looking around at the others. She sat high on her log, and looked much like royalty, though she was not.

OOC: I hope that's okay, I couldn't think of anything else right off the bat. If you don't like it/me I can change it or delete it, which ever you want.

Maas Devvish... fitting. The ranger nodded to the knight.

Severl things seemed almost to happen at once then... a woman entered, and as soon as she had sat, a veritable feast dropped on branches to the six in the clearing. Tanarias waited a moment, examining the food and allowing Kozad the first bite, just in case. Magic, surely, but I sense no evil intent here... the wizard wishes our help, not our harm. Still... The ranger stilled himself, went through a mental exercise that he had learned long ago, a personal warding ritual. He had no idea whether it had any practical value, but he tended to practice it just the same. He too picked up some meat and becan eating quietly, watching both the newcommer and the knight.

At last, the elf paused in his meal, a hint of a smile on his face as he looked at the newcommer. "Hail, unknown one. Five there are here whose natures are seen to the others, and whose names are known. Yet, we know neither who you are." Tanarias wondered if she had caught the innuendo, the "or what you are" that should have ended the sentencte. None of my people could wear such dress in these climes, she should think of these things before she takes our form.

Maas looked suspiciously at the food, then ran a gauntleted hand over it, the palm of his hand glowing a faint blue colour. He grunted and removed his helmet, revealing a hansome, if hard-boned, face and a shock of black hair.

The face was covered in scars and there was an unmistakable tattoo of a five-headed dragon ran over his left eye, the five heads arcing the eyebrow, the body winding down his cheekbone and the tail dissapearing under his armour. Each head was a different colour - red, green, blue, black and white.

He picked up some of the food and began to eat it, though he did not tear into like the brawler, but ate like one might expect of a Knight, or a Priest."Ah, they have a cave troll....."

" Introduce yourself. You too Rashima, the council still knows little of you. After that we will start what you've all been patiently waiting for." Darlius patted his stag on the head and went back to his griffin inscribed log. He took a seat and waited for the two to introduce themselves.

"Let the council begin!" Darlius said cutting off Airianas introduction.
" We must be hasty! Tombaru, would you please bring forth the package."
Out from the treeline came a treelike man. It had branches for arms and held a package in its bony, wooden hands. The creature walked slowly to the middle of the circle and placed the package on a log. The six looked at the package in curiousity.

" Ah! I've been waiting for this!" Kozad said rubbing his hands in anxiety. He had remembered the package being on Darlius' lap earlier that day.

The tree man walked back into the woods. Darlius approached the center log.

" People of Krynn! I have summoned you all to this council to speak of a very important matter at hand. In this package is the key to preventing future suffering. Kozad, your village has yet to seen a REAL army. Rashima and Tanarias, these woods will be chopped down and burnt away by a new evil force emerging in Krynn. Airiana, your family was taken away from you by evil, are you ready to see more of your kind die? Maas, I still do not know where you stand in all this, but i have summoned you because of your outstanding amount of courage. Your Queen is in great danger. Ashlynne, you must leave your fellow mercenaries behind. If this task fails, they will be enslaved and most likely killed. I believe you know not of the armies I speak of. Yes, an alliance I thought would never come to be has threatened the lives of many people. But I promise you, as long as you six stay true to each other, Krynn will not fall to the Armies of Icewall. Yes, i hate to tell you this, the ogres and tuskers have crossed the sea and have convinced Thorbadin into alliance. That is where they are fortified, inside the unbreakable gates. My trust is dwarves have perished and so should all of yours." Darlius said with deep concern on his face.

Tanarias, wide-eyed, set asside the quiver that hadbeen given him. Where in the name of the Oak did wolves get their paws on arrows....?

Then the mage began to speak. It was interesting to hear why each of the company had been brought into the group, but he was more amazed to hear why the group itself had been formed. The elf stood slowly and spoke.

"You speak of great tidings mage, a threat to our lands and our peoples, but I question your sources. Tuskers and ogres have ever been our enemies, but the dwarves of Thorbadin are not numbered amongst our traditional foes. It would be more in keeping for the mountain folk to seal themselves in their holes and leave us to our fate than to consort with the evil ones.""Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

Her father was an evil Dragon, her mother acted as one, though she was Silver, and her fellow clutchmates had been killed by their own mother to hide the evil deed that had been done. Her own mate, Mathias, had been killed in a battle and none of her clutch had lived either. All of her family was dead. Now she had a new one. No one would stop her this time. She would protect her family.

She looked around the circle once more, memorizing each face. "Mage, what can we six do against such a force, and how did it become so big?" She asked, showing concern. The Heart-Emerald around her neck showed a teal colour, giving away her anxiety and sadness over the loss of her first family.

That is why i believe their is more to this army than we think. There must be someone with great power leading the army." Darlius went back to his chair with the package. The mage sat and rubbed his chin in thought.

When Maas spoke, the mage rose swiftly and spoke.
" Dont underestimate them Maas! You musn't! That can cost you and everyone around you their lives! Thorbadin has changed. I have seen its walls. It is no longer hidden. Tall black towers and citadels built from ice stand higher than any fortress i've seen on Krynn. Surrounding the great fortress is an enormously thick ice wall. The elves of Qualinesti left their woods and head north in fear. Trust me Maas, your faith is no longer dominant. There is a new power on Krynn." Darlius sat again and sighed in thought.

Airiana broke his concentration.

" Hmmm...good point Airiana. As long as we all stay together, we have slight chance of victory. We have two choices. We can form a larger army than any known on Krynn by combining all races. That will cost us many lives. So instead, i have summoned only six. All we need to do is destroy this someone or something inside the fortress. This will be extremely difficult. However, if we succeed, the thanoi and ogres may retreat back to Ice Wall. I believe something is controlling this armies minds and those of the dwarves. It is a risky mission, i know. Sadly, this is the best sollution." Darlius grew silent and put his head in his hands. If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

Tanarias' eyes narrowed. So. My kin have fled. This is serious.

The elf's eyes turned first to the Knight, his face ernest but his voice leval and reasonable.
"I do not presume to speak for the mage, and neither do I yet share his dire view of the situation. However, I imagine that it would be valuable to your order to have closer knowledge of the goings-on in the south. And if this army is truly as great as it is said to be, it will surely be an obstacle to your people at soem point. That, perhaps, is a better reason for any part you may choose to play in this."

Tanarias then turned to the mage.

"I believe what you say old one. I would fight to right this wrong and drive this new evil from our doorsep. However, how are we six to bypass the Unbreakable Doors? This I see to be our main obstacle. Know you some way?""Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

Ashlynne listened to the conversation. "yes....I too find it hard to believe that Thorbardin would ally themselves with such a lot......and even if it where so, I am with Tanarias....how are we to do anything about it?"

Mass turned to Tanarias,

"You speak wisely, I will see what threat this army poses - and if it warrents the attention of the Knights of Thakisis."

He shook his head sourly for a moment, it was a pity that his dragon, Styrkraar was injured at the moment - still the huge Red was well o nthe mend. He should be battle-ready by the time Maas finsihed gathering information about this strange army. Then, if it warrented it, the Knights would march, and Maas would ride Styrkraar into battle once more.

He drew his blade and began to hone it's rzor-sharp edge until it was sharp enough to cut floating silk."Ah, they have a cave troll....."

" Well. Hmmm. I assume the gates open quite often now since theres armies moving in and out. So someone could easily sneak in. The fortress is different now. With all its new attachments, im sure theres an easier way in. Maybe a tunnel or an open window." Darlius told the others. The mage was suddenly alerted.

" I can hear your thoughts Mass. You will not go back to your fellow knights. There will be no war. There doesnt need to be. Why have thousands killed when six can do the job just as easily. All that needs to be destroyed is ONE man or ONE thing. Then, as i said before, the control of the armies minds will be lifted and they will return home. Yes, you will probably have to kill many of these ogres, thanoi, and dwarves to reach this controlling man or machine. So Mass, if your truly faithful to your Queen and fellow knights, you will go alone and spare them their lives." Darlius said, looking straight at the knight.

" It seems few of you are hopeful, if none. But listen well. If something is not done, all of Krynn may be destroyed." Darlius spoke as he looked around at the others.

" I dont understand, why us?" Kozad asked the mage.

" Six is the perfect number Kozad. When time comes to split up, you will have two sets of the strongest number. Three!" Darlius said with a smile.

" What do you mean split up?" Kozad shouted.

" Oh, well, unless you can manage to sneak into an evil fortress with six. The less people, the harder to find." Darlius spoke, his smile fading.

" Okay, but you still didnt answer my question. Why are we burdened with this mission. Surely, there must be better warriors." Kozad looked around the circle.

" None of you too alike, and none of you too different. That is all I will say about that matter." Darlius said quietly.

Kozad nodded his head in understanding. If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

"So all we must do," Airiana said, seeing the mage's point. "Is find the controller.. whatever or whoever that might be, and destroy it?" She asked, finding hope that the task coud be accomplished.

"And we shall be split up as well? Under these circumstances, it is probably best that we take whatever time we have to learn eachothers abilities and weaknesses, or else we will fail." Airiana said these last few words almost as if it were a curse. A shiver went down her spine and she looked up into the sky above, as if to find an answer there.

" Im getting the feeling that you, Airiana, underestimate yourself and your companions." Darlius said with a serious face.

" Kozad here has the strength of a bear and great leadership qualities. Tanarias has the eyes and ears of a hawk, one of the finest archers in the land. Ashlynne, a fine fighter, her owl is the eye in the sky. Rashima, ruler of the wolves, is fast and sly. Mass, though he may not know it quite yet, will do anything to save others, and is one of the most courageous on Krynn. And you Airiana, you are one of the last dragons of good in this world, and a damn good one. Me, Darlius, Mage of Winter, commands the Frost Griffin. I have the power to freeze my enemies and can summon ice just about anywhere. I think this little group is the best chance Krynn has." Darlius smiled slightly.

" Did you say Frost Griffin? What the hell is that?" Kozad asked with a bewildered look on his face.

" Oh, yes, i forgot to show you." Darlius opened up the package. Inside was a small statue of a marble griffin. The mage chanted a unique form of magic.

" Now what?" Kozad asked looking around.

" He's coming." the mage spoke, his eyes closed.

Suddenly a loud caw came from the clouds. Snow flew down onto the companions. A pale white griffin floated above. It lowered itself down in a field next to the circle.

" We will meet him later. He must rest now. It has been a long journey for Blitz. Not bad though eh? It may take him a while to get used to you though." Darlius said staring particularly at Airiana. If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

So, the mage comes as well. That is an unexpected boon.

"I disagree with your thinking, mage; I believe that you have let your thoughts outpace your precognition. You claim that there will be no war, nor need for armies, but you know not how long this mission will take, nor what will be required to complete it. If we are confronted by the unforseen, as well we may be if the world is being turned upside-down, then there may well be need for armies to march and stem the tide while we seek out the source of this evil. It may be, Leaf forbid, that an assault will be necessary." The Elf held up a glove to forestall any retort. "You, not even you, can see all ends. I live by certain rules, ones that do not rule out the use of any weapons. If it were otherwise, you might see me clad in similar fashion to our grim knight.

Secondly, I see little hope of passing the unbreakable gates. I feel this in my heart.

Third, however, I have seldom needed hope. I am yet commited. Besides, it does my heart well to understand that you will share in this endeavor, success or failure.""Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

" There will be an assault Tanarias. With an army of seven. Hahaha." Darlius laughed. Kozad stared at him oddly, contemplating his sanity.

" Do not worry Kozad. I speak wisely. If an army is sent in the numbers your thinking of Tanarias, they will surely fall. The enemy will see them from miles away. In addition, the army may befall the same mind domnation as the dwarves did. Then, we are in an even larger mess. If six or seven are taken over, its not much of a loss, or gain for the enemy. And yes Tanarias, i am coming. But do not expect me to go the full length of the journey. About the gates, dont be so doubtful. I already told you, the gates are practically worthless now, there are tunnels leading to the inside of the fortress. The ogres dug them hoping to find resources. I believe we are wasting time going on and on like this. I will end this council now. Any who wish to go, come stand next to me."

Kozad waited a minute before he rose. He looked at the others in the circle.

" I will go. Im not gonna stay in my village and wait to die!" Kozad walked over to Darlius and stood next to him.

" We've got our strength." Darlius said motioning to the warrior.

" Anyone else?" Darlius asked looking at the ones still sitting.

Airiana looked at the real Elf. He wanted to do this his way. Understandable, but large forces could easily be brought in with magic.

Hearing the winter mage, she looked at him. Her large silver eyes were cool and calculating. "I shall come with thee, but only if every member of this so-called family submits to the quest." Airiana turned her gaze back to the Elf, willing him to join the others.

"It can be done. And if all else fails, forces can be brought in... one way or another, ones that shall not succumb to the evils that has overtaken the Dwarves. I have faith in our plight, and most importantly.. I have hope. Can you say that you have as much?" And at the last, she looked back at the council members who had already joined Darlius, and Darlius himself, looking into the eyes of each.

Then he turned to the wizard. "And I do not hesitate."

"Wonderful! Now comes the decisions." Darlius took out a map.

" Everyone gather around. We are here." The mage said, pointing to the borders of Darken Wood.

" We are close to Gateway. First we must get to Solace, arm ourselves to the max. We will visit Theros Ironfield. He already knows of our coming and has customised weapons to all of our liking. It is a short flight, but with all the snow it can be dangerous. We must be quick and order the groups wisely. We need to get there by nightfall. We will stay at the Inn of the Last Home, in the morning we will go to Theros, then we will return to the inn to relax and eat before departure. Now here are the flying groups. Mass, Tanarias, and I will fly on Blitz. Kozad, Ashlynne, and Rashima, will fly on Airiana. Be quick, once we get to Solace, there will be enough time for rest." Darlius finished and led the group to the circle where the frost griffin was lying down.

" Oh get up you old bird!" Darlius kicked Blitz in the ribs.

" Raaaaaa!" Blitz cawed as he got up with an annoyed look on his face.
Darlius mounted the griffin with ease.
" Come on you two. Do not be frightened. Blitz does not bite." Darlius said, smiling at Mass and Tanarias.

OOC: Perhaps an IC appology to Airiana from the mage?

IC:

Flight had always entranced Tanarius. He had long had a secret desire to wing over the treetops and speed over lakes, but he was no spell-weaver... not that kind, at any rate. The griffon's flight had been exhilerating, but too short for his own tastes. Ah well, perhaps when we head for Torbardin. He bowed to the griffon, then turned and followed the mage.

Solace and the Inn of the Last Home were one of the fireside legends that Tanarius had not yet seen. Tanarias barked out a laugh as the fighter made his offer. Knights, at least honorable ones, as Mass seemed to be, would never be as reasonable as to cover their markings where they were not welcome.

That they should not be welcome, however, as a mystery to Tanarias. The legends that he had heard rated the Inn of Solace as one of the most hospitable on Krynn... if they saw no friends here, they would not find them anywhere. " The armies!.....There here!" The man said, fear in his eyes.

" Blitz!" Darlius shouted in anger, feeling stupid for letting a griffin out there in the armies sight. The mage took out a medallion around his neck.

" Hide in the woods. I will call for you." The mage whispered into the medallion shaped like a griffin.

Darlius saw the others panic. Kozad rose, his axe in his hands. The mage pushed the warrior back down.

" Stay calm! You fool! They'll be coming in here any minute now. Do not resist. Avoid conflict!" The mage whispered in an angry voice. Right after Darlius stopped talking a dwarf marched through the inn door. He wore black armor. His hair was fire red, along with his beard. A battle axe rested in his hands. Two more armor clad dwarves came behind him.

" Tax collection folks! Its that time of the month!" The dwarf shouted across the inn.
" Line up!" snarled a dwarf behind him.

Nobody in the inn hesitated. Soon there was a long line at the door. Kozad and Darlius snuck into the middle. Darlius noticed the man who alarmed them before standing in front of them.

" They do this every month?!" the mage asked in shock.

" Sadly. It started a year ago, about a month after ' THEY' came! The tax has been increased twice since then!" The man whispered in anger.

" Whose 'They'?" Darlius asked, even though he had a good idea.

" Since those damn tuskers and ogres came across the seas and settled themselves in Thorbadin. They send these mountain goats to do there work!" the man replied with an angry look.

Darlius looked out of a window. The mage saw a small fleet of about fifty dwarves, all clad in armor. A flag was held up within the fleet bearing the symbol of a snowflake.

" You should get behind us." Darlius said to the man. " Get ready Kozad. Theres only three. Be swift and silent. I will handle everything else." Darlius whispered to the warrior behind him.
Kozad unstrapped his axe and held it beneath his cloak.
" So much for avoiding conflict." The warrior mumbled to himself.

Darlius signalled the other companions to get ready to run.If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

OOC: I stated earlier that Ashlynne was a char that was pulled from our "Dimension" into that of Krynn in a story thread a while back...she is from out "world" and was a student in Law Enforcement (Very much like myself)

Ashlynne stared at the three with open disgust and contempt. she watched Kozad ready himself, and she kept her hand low, and her sword loose in it's sheath.I wish that i could cry

OOC: Oh yes! I remember. Sorry about that Kalia.

IC: There was only one man in front of Darlius. The man put a couple coins in a brown bag being held by the dwarf. The man then went back to his table, revealing the white robed mage behind him.

" Good evening!" Darlius said joyfully to the red bearded dwarf.

" It wont be for you if you dont pay up!" The dwarf roared.

"Hmmm. We'll see about that." Darlius laughed in the dwarfs face who became red with rage. The two dwarves behind the tax collector unstrapped their axes.

" Freezitaxo!" Darlius chanted. One of the dwarfs axes was then coated with thick ice. The dwarf dropped it, his hands feeling the extreme cold of the ice. Darlius dove to the side. Kozad flung off his cloak, revealing the barbaric axe. The warrior swung it fiercly at the collector who swiftly blocked it with a short sword. The other armed dwarf behind the collector lept on top of the warrior as Kozad and the collector struggled. Kozad sent the dwarf flying into a table, forgetting about the collector who slightly sliced the warriors side then headbutt him in the stomach. Kozad fell back into some chairs. The dwarf with the axe was now upon him, holding the weapon about his head, ready to bring down the axe into Kozads neck.If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

As silent as a cat, Ashlynne freed her blade and brought it against the Dwarf's raised axe. "I don't think so.." She said softly, but the edge in her tone was sharper than the blade in her hand. " now!" She called, and the white Owl flew down from the rafters, its talons soon bloodied from the dwarf's arms as he sheilded his face from the Raptor's attack.

In a soundless blur of floating fabric, branches, and scabbards, Tanaris came hurtling in from the side. He landed slightly less gracefully than intended, his clothing and pack swinging his weight unexpectedly. This proved to be a boon, however, as his gear slammed into the dwarf which had dropped his now-frozen axe. The impact tumbled both of them (Tanarias thought that he had gotten the better hit), but the elf had to draw-block to avoid having the tax collector's short sword lodged somewhere in his chest. Struggling to his feet under a hail of blows, he tried to get his barings against the lead dwarf."Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

Kozad got up in pain. He noticed Tanarias was in danger. The warrior swung his axe into the tax collectors back. The dwarf fell to the floor, lifeless.

When all three of the dwarves were dead, Darlius walked over to the window. The mage saw an ogre being followed by a dozen dwarves. They were ascending the stairs up to the inn!

" Another fleet is coming! Stand away from the door!" The mage shouted, he closed his eyes, ready for a spell.

" Sheetzoico!" Darlius chanted. The door was blocked by a thick sheet of ice. The ogre ran up to the door and slammed it with his fist in anger. The ice held.

" To the kitchen!" The mage commanded. Darlius grabbed the griffin medallion and spoke into it. "Come now Blitz! Behind the inn!"

Kozad looked back in fear as he heard the sound of crushing ice. The enormous ogre walked into the inn, a large golden axe resting in his hands. Kozad ran for the kitchen. The warrior gasped as he saw the mage leap out of a kitchen window. Kozad ran to the window to see what Darlius was thinking. He looked down and saw Darlius on the white griffin. Kozad jumped out the window second, just barely catching hold of the griffins talons. The warrior climbed up onto its back.

" Dont worry, Blitz can hold all of us! Hurry!" Darlius shouted up to the others, still inside the inn.

OOC: Yeesh, I don't post for a couple of days and I miss the fighting.....
IC:
Maas looked at the fleeing mage and barbarian, then grunted,

"Sorry mate, no running for me. S'against my religion you know."

He stepped out of the shadows, though how on Krynn a six-foot knight in full plate armour (plus spiky bits) had managed to hide in the shadows no-one knew. He stepped up to the Ogre and looked down at the axe,

"You ever used that thing? Cos there's one reason why gold isn't used to make weapons. It's too soft, one good hit on my armour and that thing would be like putty. Unless it's magic of course, that would just make you a flash git who is almost screaming for someone to kill him and nick the bloody thing.""Ah, they have a cave troll....."

01/02/2003 6:03 AM

OOC: Geez... and I thought y'all posted a lot before... Oh, and BTW, don't worry about it Queshu.. you didn't know. This is going to be a weird post... just thought I'd warn y'all ahead of time. I definitely have some catching up to do.....

BIC: Airiana grinned. The Griffon couldn't catch up to her, she knew that much already, but she thought he would have at least came into range so that she could see his progress.

Looking backwards to her new family riding on her back, she whispered to them all in her mind. 'I hope I have not startled any of you. If I have, I apologize. I love to fly, but taking on passengers and having a mage and Griffin who think they are faster than me... well, it just put me in the mood to prove them wrong! Again, I hope everyone is alright back there.'

With that, she continued flying on, making a soft landing in Solace. The Griffin landed shortly after, and nodded as to say ‘it’s alright… but don’t do it again’ to the mage after his apology. The only problem with being a Dragon was how loud your voice was, even when you were trying to be quiet, so just a nod and a look would have to suffice. She quickly changed into her Elven form, so as to keep from attracting attention, and walked into the Inn of the Last Home. From the time she landed up until she walked into the Inn, she could not shake the feeling that something was wrong.

OOC: BTW Kalia, when/how did you learn Cherokee? I only ask because I am part Cherokee myself and have been trying for years to learn the language. If you could help me out a little, I would be grateful. Wa-do! (Thank you!)

BIC: When Kozad came in with Rashima, she felt extremely guilty. As soon as he awoke, Airiana walked over to him and apologized. ’I am deeply sorry. I will keep the racing to a minimal from now on. I never intended to scare you so.’ She told him softly in his head, hoping that would not startle the poor Wolf as well.

Kozad got everyone a table. As Airiana moved over to it, she nodded to Otik, knowing that there was no need for her to order. She came here so often that Otik knew what to bring to her, a glass of Elven wine, some stew, and spiced potatoes. It was an odd combination, to be sure, but she enjoyed it.

Airiana had no sooner sat down with the rest of the group before a man rushed through the doorway. A hushed silence suddenly fell over the Inn and Airiana knew that there was going to be trouble. ’I should definitely learn to listen to myself more!’ She chided herself, knowing that she should have stayed alert. After the mage said a few words to Blitz, he told everyone to stay calm. ’Well that’s all good and well but the others’ don’t have an alarm going off in their heads! There’s going to be trouble!’ Airiana mind-spoke to the mage, grumbling a little, but stated it in earnest.

Then the Dwarves came in. ’Tax collection,’ Airiana thought to herself. ’No one ever said anything about a tax collection. I must have been lucky enough not to be here during the collection times, and surely no one would speak of it. Still, it is odd.’ She thought, standing up in unison with the others and getting in line. Airiana heard the mage’s conversation with the man in line and knew it would be time to fight soon, though the mage’s wishes were for the rest of us to vacate the premises as soon as possible.

Before Airiana could be removed from her thoughts, the fight had begun. Everyone scrambled. Some to fight, the rest to get out of the way. Airiana was swept back with those who wanted to get out of the way, though she would rather have been with the former than the latter. The door was frozen. Everyone moved to the kitchen. Airiana flashed a look to Otik as she entered, an apology and a ‘Watch out!’ in one. The others ran to the window and it was no time at all before all of her new family was aboard Blitz. All except for Airiana. The Griffon could not support her weight, even if she were the only one to be on his back. Though she took the form of an Elf, she still weighed as much as when in Dragon form. Conveying this information to both Blitz himself and to the mage, Airiana jumped into the air and quickly shifted to her true form.

She hovered just to the side and above Blitz, awaiting his take-off.

OOC: Sorry for such a long post, guys. But I figured it was necessary to get me back with the group. I’ll be posting again the day after tomorrow. I doubt I will get a chance to do so earlier. Oh yeah, I’m back at school so my posting will be every-other-day from now on. TTYL. Ciao for now!

An arrow suddenly buried itself in the ogre's forearm, finding its way between the bones to end its flight sticking right through the huge limb. Roaring in surprise, anger, and pain, the giant dropped its weapon, neatly severing its own toe. Tanarias, standing by the door to the kitchen, reached back under his cloak and fished out another shaft as he spoke to the dark knight.

"You just outlined why you should leave, knight: there's no honor in fighting a foe that ill-equiped or stupid! It'd just be beating up on someone who can't defend himself properly, and I know that's against your Code. And let's face it, the dwarves don't present much more of a challenge. Come on, let's get away from here and give these villagers some peace. The real ememy's far south of here."

The elf waited for the knight's reaction, readying himself to put an arrow into the eye of the first enemy that presented itself. Just take the persuasion and move, knight, we really don't have to do this. Besides, my quiver's running dry..."Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

Maas looked over at the elf, then picked up the blade, running a hand over it whilst muttering a prayer,

"Gah! No magic, it's just a lump of yellow metal."

He snarled again and buried the axe in the head of one of the dwarves, cracking it's skull upon before the gold deformed,

"There's your tax."

He turned and strode calmly out of the window, landing heavily on Blitz who cawed slighlt in protest."Ah, they have a cave troll....."

Tanarias smiled to himself as Mass passed him. So, the Code is still that much of a pain and that much of a help... sometimes I wonder about these knights... He put his arrow into his bowhand and dashed out the back, slipping a small pouch to the inkeeper with a nod; if the elf caused trouble, be always tried to make up for it. The steel in that bag would more than satisfy the invaders.

Jumping out of the window, the elf grabbed a branch and swung for a moment... the griffon looked awfully crowded, and he wondered if he would end up hampering the beast by unbalancing it. Still, he dared not just drop unexpectedly onto the dragon. He hung there for a moment, swaying slightly in the breeze and trying to decide.

Darlius knelt down and pulled the elf up with surprising strength.

" Do not worry Tanarias, Blitz will hold." The mage said reasuringly. The griffon was soon off. He flew high above Solace, however, enemy machines shot out giant arrows towards the griffon.

" Damn! Ballistics! Airiana, blaze those back-stabbing dwarves. I'll give them a little chill afterwards." Darlius looked back at the others aboard the griffon. " We still must meet up with Theros. We are not equipped well enough to go into the fortress yet. Blitz will drop us off close to the blacksmith's house. We cant be long." Darlius shouted back. The mage sent a rain of hail down on the dwarves in fury, after an arrow shot right passed his face.

Hearing the mage, Airiana grunted. ’There will be no need; my Dragonbreath can do as much as you and more besides. I am both fire and ice.’ She reminded the mage as she powered towards the ballistics and aimed a shot of her combination Dragonbreath, being a hybrid Dragon did have its advantages. The ballistics received first a blast of fire and then froze. The fiery-ice combination almost always killed whatever it hit, and she prayed for the souls of any who happened to be in the way.

When she had accomplished her task, she flew swiftly back towards Blitz and the others. ’If any of you are feeling crowded, I would not mind carrying a few passengers. Swift flight is called for and I doubt many creatures can move quickly with such a burden upon them.’

Blitz landed in the woods behind the blacksmiths shop. After all was off the griffins back, Blitz jumped up high then flew out of sight.

" Well, we're here." Darlius said in relief. Kozad looked into the blacksmith window and saw sparks flying around the shop. Darlius walked up to the back door and gave an odd knock, as if it were a secret meeting, which it sort of was.

A dark skinned man opened the door and extended a metal arm towards the mage. He smiled and patted Darlius on the back.

" Ah, your here. It is my pleasure to meet you once again Darlius." the blacksmith said cheerfully.

" Theros, it is MY pleasure to be in your very presence." The mage replied with a smile, patting the mans shoulder in return. " This is my crew behind me. We must be quick. We have stirred this town a bit." Darlius said with a nervous smile.

" Sure, im working on one more. For the warrior Koozed." Theros whispered, fearful of being heard after what Darlius just told him. He was heading back to work when a hand grabbed his steel arm.

" It's Kozad." The warrior beside Darlius said with a smile. He released the man and walked into the shop. He sighed in comfort as the heat from the furnaces diminished the cold on his body from the biting, winter wind outside. Theros nodded with a smile and walked over to the weapon he was working on. Kozad saw it and was greatly impressed. It was a fine axe, however, it was two-handed.

" Thats amazing! I'll just need to get used to not having my punching hand free anymore." Kozad said with a smile, remembering his many fights as a paid brawler.

" You'll get used to it my friend. You look like you can handle the weight of a two-handed." Theros replied as he made the finishing touches on the large double-sided axe. After the blacksmith sharpened the two sides on the head of the axe, Theros handed the weapon to Kozad. The warrior played around with it. He smiled in approval and thanked Theros.

" Whose ready for their weapons?" Theros said, looking at the others behind Darlius.

OOC: This is how we can do it. You can OOC post the weapon and equipment you want. You guys can control Theros to make this process faster. The weapons are all ready and were ordered before hand. Food and supplies are taken care of. Be smart and realistic on what you want to take. You do not have to if you dont want, but this is a good chance to get equipped before we go to the fortress. Tanarias walked forwards, exchanging a questioning look with Theros as he passed him, though he said nothing to the blacksmith. He had already spotted his weapon.

The dagger sat gleaming in the flickering light of the forgefire, orange light playing off of its hilt, crossguard, and ring. The elf took up the thing and drew it, impressed by the balance and length of the thing. He glanced at Theros, who only smiled and nodded. Surprisingly, she found a longbow and armor that was tinted in her colours.

Walking over to the items, Theros smiled and came over to the table where they lay. "These," he said with an exasperated smile. "Took a very long time. Between me and a couple mages... well, it was hard work, anyways. When you are an Elf, the armor and longbow will be of great use to you as they are.

"When you return to being yourself, ... as long as you have them on, mind... they will shift with you. The longbow and armor with sort of... melt into one and mold into a makeshift saddle... in case you decide to take on passengers. Rashima turns back into a human and takes the sword. "I know this might be odd but I will need some one to teach me how to use a sword". Rashima walks out of the shop and sits down just being gald to be on the ground.

As soon as Rashima had stepped out of the forge, Tanarias spun out of the darkness to a halt in front of him. His longsword pointed down at the wolf's feet, the new dagger held in a high backhand that could have stabbed down or stopped a blow. It struck the observer how well-matched they were in make.

"It would be an honor to teach you The Dance, Draugendil. See it now and learn what you can from the first watching." The elf whirled backwards, spinning, his feet and blades a blur of motion as he hopped and lept to get some room. Then his feet suddenly planted and the sword and dagger began to weave a pattern in the air, darting in circles, lashing out unexpectedly, stopping and turning like pups at play. Tanarias' eyes were unfocused, staring purposefully straight ahead, as though his mere glance might upset the live things in his hands.

Finally, the spell that bound him was released, and he sprang forwards, jumping into a roll and coming up in a low block, blades crossed, at the doorway. From there, he bowed deeply to the blacksmith. "Your skill is beyond measure, master smith, and your gift's value is greater than you know. Tanarias Halflight, Ranger of the South, is ever at your service, from hereforth. I thank you, elendil.""Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

Maas stood back and watched as Tanarias span in the bladedance. Once the elf had finsihed, a slow clap could be heard from the shadows where the armoured knight stood, punctuated as the metal of his gauntlets rang.

The tall knight stepped forward, looking the smith in the eye,

"My sword was given to my by my Dark Queen - and I need no other."

The smith stammered slightly - the Knights of the Lily had a well deserved reputation,

"I am aware of that sir, but your shield is somewhat battered is it not?"

The Knight looked down at the shield - whilst his armour and blade were blessed by his patron godess, the shield was not. The skull-and-lily emblem still stood out proudly, but was chipped and worn - as was the shield body.

He looked up as the smith handed him a shield - large - but not tall enough to hamper movement. The skull-and-lily symbol emblazoned in the middle stood out proudly, and several short blades adored the base of the shield.

He passed the smith his old shield and slung the new one on his arm, drawing his blade and testing the wieght ond heft of his new equipment. Then he stood and nodded to the smith, indicating the old shield with his blade,

"It is good metal - smelt it down and use it again my firend, it will serve any purpose well enough.""Ah, they have a cave troll....."

Tanarias could not suppress a smirk and a short scratch of good-natured laughter as Rashima wiped the mud off of his face. The elf walked over to him and knelt with a smile. "I didn't mean for you to try something quite so complex right away, my friend. You'll need to get a feel for your blade first, every one is different. It will be weeks before I can bring my Dance back to its full potential- the dagger is new, and I've been a long time without one. You should start simply."

Tanarias stood, motioning Rashima to do the same. Drawing his longsword, the elf set his feet at shoulder-width, brought up the blade, and then twisted his torso slowly, making his arm follow the movement until the blade was directly in front of him, paralell to the ground.

"This is a basic, powerful cut, one of the first you should learn. By snapping your arm forwards, you can gain much more momentum than a simple straight cut." The elf demonstrated again, this time whipping the blade forwards with a quick twist.

"Try every move slowly at first, it's the best way to learn technique and not harm yourself. Now, try that cut.""Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

The elf turned. "Normally, that would have been the first lesson. I figured you needed a little encouragement first, though. Let's begin the real lessons. He hit you because you were off balance. Two legs is nothing like four."

Gale took up a position beside the Wolf, showing him the proper footing for a guard. Then, asking Rashima to mimic his moves, he moved through the eight saber guards, stopping to correct the Wolf's form occasionally."Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

The warrior dropped his weapon in shock as red flames covered the axe blade. Kozad twisted the handle again in panic. The flames quickly vanished. Kozad stomped back into the shop and came face to face with Theros.

" You curse my axe?" Kozad asked Theros in anger, never having trust in magic.
" Not quite." Theros replied with a slight smile. " It is enchanted. Where you are going, that flaming blade will become very handy. Just think, you'll never need a torch again." The blacksmith began to laugh.

" Sorry for getting worked up Theros. Thank you. I will make sure to visit you again when i am in Solace.......If i live through this." The warrior replied. The last statement was more to himself, since he said it very low, and unclear.

Darlius nodded in acceptance. The fire axe would come to use on their journey. The mage walked outside, onto the snow covered ground. He saw Tanarias with his new dagger.

" Ahem! Tanarias, arent you forgeting something?" The mage asked the elf with a smile, pointing at the nearly empty quiver on his back.If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

Tanarias continued with his fencing set as if he hadn't heard, Rashima only heasitating a second before following his lead. When the drill finished, the elf looked over at the mage.

"Not at all, my friend. I always carry a quiver when practicing simply to stay attuned to the feeling, but this one belies my resources. With my pack and camoflage inside, you will find the quiver of arrows that the Wolves gave at the council. But if Theros has something special for me, bid him place it with my things."

OOC: A bit harsh Quesh - his writing isn't all it could be. Prahaps it does need a little bit of cleaning up but it's not as impossiable to read as you seem to be saying.

Doombug - a few pointers;
Try writing in the past tense, it makes the whole post easier to read.
Also, try spacing out your speech from your descriptions with a blank line - it makes the post easier on the eye and make it easier for you to spot mistakes.
The spelling is easy to fix - write up posts in Word or something similar, after you've spellchecked it you can just Cut&Paste it onto the forums.

IC:

Maas turned to Tanrias and hefted his sword and shield, spinning the blade expertly in one hand,

"You show skill elf. Prahaps you will yet turn out to be a worthy ally."

OOC: Well sylvan, i suppose you meant that your quiver was dry, as in, not wet. After all, you cant fight off dwarves unless you have a moist quiver right? Did you forget when you said that? If thats not sad enough, it happened to be you that posted it. Meanwhile your blaming me for forgeting what Doombug posted. I probably read it, just didnt understand it. After all, it is doombug. So i think it may be a good idea for Tanarias to re-soke his quiver, if you get my meaning. I wasnt trying to offend you with that IC statement. Next time i know to let you go invade a fortress with a useless bow.

Doombug, I used to be polite with you about your writing problems. Now, after a dozen times telling you, same errors are happening. I've been bringing it to your attention since Frigid Keep. Your like a dead phone. All i ask is for you to read it over after you type it. It makes it easier for all of us. If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

Ashlynne stepped forward, and accepted a steel case. When she opened it, a small pistol was within. The gun was old...at least by Ash's standards...but was perfectly servicible. A large horn of gunpowder and a pouch of tiny steel balls was also within in the case. She smiled and was astonished as the mage gave her a wink.

She pulled out the pisol, and with a small cloth, began to clean it Scrupulously.

Airiana had fitted on her armor over her long silvery-red robes. Realizing how hard this get-up would be in battle, Airiana slipped away from her companions long enough to buy some suitable clothing. When she returned, she wore her beautifully crafted armor over a Xena-like leather suit. Her darkly tanned skin showed off easily in the suit, and she looked remarkabley more beautiful than she had before. Her long, black hair was tied up in a high ponytail with a leather thong. She wore knee-high boots and leather bracers. Over her back she had her longbow and quiver of arrows. When she returned, everyone seemed to be... well, just standing around.

"So," she asked the winter mage. "Where do we go from here? We are all fully equiped now." She said, her silver eyes flashing with excitement. She was ready to roll.

" I sense your excitement Airiana. But many dangers lie ahead, remember to keep your focus. We will depart now. It is a long flight, the sun is almost setting now, when we get there it will be rising. When Thorbadin is in sight, and believe me it wont be a pretty one, we will land in thick forest surrounding the mountain. We will then walk through the forest with caution, until we have sight of the fortress wall. I mean ANY sight. It can be a mere glint of the ice wall and we will stop. We will then rest ourselves, that night we will find a way through the walls and maybe even the gates. I will speak more of the plan when we get there. I do not know what may have changed in Thorbadin. Use this long trip to prepare yourselves, rest as much as you want. Airiana, no racing, we must pace ourselves, especially you. Blitz will not come with us, however you are, preserve your energy. Also, dont get confused by Ashlynne's weapons, they are just a tad ADVANCED." Darlius smiled to Ashlynne, who returned it back to the mage.

"Before we leave, i have something to give to all of you." The mage lifted a large package from a stump. It was given to him by Theros.

He unwrapped it and pulled out a snow-white, hooded cloak. He tossed it to Kozad. He took out another one, looking just like the warriors and threw it to Rashima. The mage finally handed all of the hooded cloaks out. They were all the same.

" These cloaks match the color of the snow below us on the ground. Near Thorbadin the snow will be even thicker. In my glimpse of the tower, i seemed to notice more snow than usual. This may also be the power of the mage or object from Ice Reach. I will carry your cloak Airiana, since you need to fly. I will give it to you when we land." Darlius finished and spoke into his medallion. The griffin came down a yard away from the mage.

" Do I have the privilage to fly on such a beautiful lady?" Kozad asked Airiana politely. The warrior put on his cloak, cameoflaging with the snow perfectly. He was still visible, but would be hard to see from afar.

Darlius mounted Blitz and signalled Mass and Tanarias to board the griffin.

" Do you mind taking Kozad, Rashima, and Ashlynne?" Darlius asked Airiana. If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

Tanarias' eyes lit up at the sight of the cloaks and a smile such as had not been seen lit his face. He pulled off his green cloak and tossed the white one over himself expertly, admiring the way in which it flowed. In his leather armor, he might have been a small tree leaden with ice. "I'll be with you all in a moment."

The elf dashed back inside and gathered his things. The green cloak went into his pack and that in turn went under the white cloak. quivers and bow were stowed as well, and he pulled the branches out of his camoflage net so that he could stuff it away. Finally, he picked up his log and turned to Theros. "I have already given you a pledge. Now I give you my thanks, human. May your hammer strike evertrue. Namarie."

Airiana nodded her head, listening to the mage's words. She almost frowned when he told her not to race, but she knew he was right. Her playful spirit would have to wait until there wasn't so much to be accomplished--after the battle.

As Blitz arrived, Airiana gave a slight bow to her partner in flight, and promised not to out do the Griffin on this trip.

Airiana smiled at Kozad as he humbly asked her permission to ride. "Yes you may, warrior. You shall need too. I hardly think you could get there fast enough by walking or even by horse, for that matter."

Turning to Darlius, Airiana smiled. "Do not worrry, mage. I am all business now, all excitement aside. I have no problem with taking on three passengers."

With that, she shifted to her true form, her armor and longbow seeming to meld together and form to her back as she did so. Now Airiana stood in the clearing, approximately two hundred feet tall and two hundred and fifty feet long. She unfurled her powerful wings and stretched them. Laying down so that her charge could mount, she raised her front claws slightly to help them up onto her back. 'Here you are,' She mindspoke to Ashlynne, who was the only lady of the group. 'Climb up and be ready to ride.'

Darlius, noticing everyone was ready, ordered Blitz into the snow filled sky. He motioned towards the southwest and the griffin sped forward in obedience.

After they cleared Solace, he ordered Blitz to slow down. Darlius himself had said no racing. The group members needed time to think and get into the right state of mind to carry out such a great, risky task.

Kozad closed his eyes in meditation as the wind blew onto his face. Airiana flew beautifully, with such care for her passengers. The warrior woke from the transe and looked at Ashlynne.

" Come now my friends. We have a long walk ahead of us. Then we will rest for as long as we want." Darlius began walking, staring at Thorbadin far ahead. Black smoke rose from the great mountain. The mage looked in disbelief.

The elf had seen the fortress of Thorbardin only once in all his days, and from what he knew of dwarves, smoke would not be so out of place. But he wasn't concerned with the castle at the moment.

Walking over to a nearby tree, the ranger paused a moment and put his hand on the bark, drawing in the plant's essence with a slow breath. He felt his spirit thrust roots deep into the earth and spread into a canopy above him as he attuned himself. Airiana and Tanaris scavenged the forest floor for tree branches that were dead and had long since fell to the ground. Airiana found quite a selection, and soon found herself having to use the tail of her white cape to carry the load. Certain that they had enough for the time-being, Airiana headed back to the camp and began preparing the twigs, leaves, and branches she found into a fire and set stones about it. She murmured a few arcane words and a small fire ignited.

"There," she said. "Now, is there anything else you would like me to do, mage?"

" Great work Airiana. Thank you. If you would like to accompany Kozad and Maas on their hunting trip, you are more than welcome to." Darlius said with his joyful smile.

Meanwhile, Kozad was having trouble with the dark knight, Maas.

" Fool?! You better think about who your talking to Maas! And while your thinking about that, think about a name that doesnt have an impossible sound to it! Now lets kill some deer!" Kozad yelled. Airiana nodded her head to Darlius. She was famished, something that would not be good for her companions... after all, she was a dragon. "I believe it would be more beneficial for me to hunt for myself and return afterwards. I would not wish the amount of hunting required for a Dragon on any mortal." She said, excusing herself from the mage's presence. "I will return shortly."

She loosened her coat from around her and placed it on a log near the fire. She shifted to her true form, but a smaller version as to not attract any undue attention. She stood only five feet tall and ten feet in length. In this form atleast, she could use her Dragonbreath, and be quick enough to catch the large amount of prey that would be required.

With a speed unknown to mortals, she ran through the forest, chasing down a herd of deer. After killing and eating almost half of the large herd, she thought better of it, knowing that her companions would require food as well, and she made the remaining deer run in her companions direction so that they might easier get their prey. Still being hungry herself, she found a large bear and killed and ate it. After finishing it off, Airiana made sure that she had left no evidence of her being there--no scrape of deer nor bear, no broken twigs or branches.

After making a cursory check, she returned to the campsite and reverted to her Elven form, putting the cloak back on.

"There!" She exclaimed. "I shall not need to eat again for some time."

" Deer!"

Kozad yelled when caught by surprise by more than two dozen deer galloping through the woods right towards him!

The warrior unstrapped his axe and waited for a large buck in the front of the herd to come near. The axe blade met the bucks neck, killing it and sending it to the floor. Kozad was knocked down by a buck from behind. The warrior took a nasty spill and his back landed on a rock.

Darlius grew alarmed at the sound of hooves getting closer to the campsite. He heard Kozads shout and started thinking of a spell. The mage weaved his hands around while chanting. The deer were now a mere dozen yards from the campsite. The first buck fell to the floor, then another. Soon around thirty deer lay in the opening. Kozad ran back to the campsite. He saw all the deer lying down on the ground.

" How'd you kill them all?" Kozad asked in bewilderement.

" I did not kill them you idiot." Darlius said in jest. He then pointed to one of the bucks. Its chest was moving up and down. All the deer were breathing.

" They are merely asleep. We only kill the ones we need. They will remain asleep for 24 hours." Darlius said to the group. If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

Airiana lowered her head in sorrow. "I am sorry," she said with guilt. "My actions, though helping in nature seemed to have almost caused great problems for us. I should have warned all of thee of what I was about to undertake and directed the deer in a different direction... away from the camp. Please forgive me." She said, feeling terrible that her actions almost caused the stampeeding herd to trample her Companions.

Tanarias looked up from his work and frowned, a dark look clouding his beautiful elven features. He stood and walked towards the edge of the clearing where the deer lay sprawled. "Mage... this is wrong. It is one thing to use magic, another to abuse it. We are interlopers in this land, passing through it as a wind does. The less mark we leave, the better, and to manipulate the forest folk in this way ammounts to cruelty. They do not have even a chance against your spells, as they might against my arrows or Kozad's axe. Furthermore, if they lie still for so long they will be hard-put to stand and regain the energy they might have gained in forraging."

The elf knelt next to one of the sleeping animals and laid a bare hand lightly on it's side as it rose and fell in a peaceful rhythem. His breath whitened the air in time with the deer's his eyes closed as its were, his form equally motionless. Slowly, almost impprecaptably, the animal's breathing slowed, then peacefully stopped. Tanarias removed his hand and sat back quietly. He spoke softly and sadly as though reciting.

"Put up thine axe, warrior, and let the bow be unstrung. This one has given us its life in honor, and we may beg no more of these creatures. All praise to the forest folk, en galen taur nen farothin.""Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

" You are right Tanarias. I was thinking of you when i cast that sleeping spell. I too did not want to over-abuse my power. I will awaken them and let them be off now." The mage said in guilt. Darlius waved a hand and whispered a short phrase. One deer after another rose and walked back to the forest in peace.

Kozad nodded to Tanarias in understanding and strapped his axe. He then turned to Airiana.

" Do not apologize my dear. It was my carelessness that led to my minor fall. Dont worry Airiana, t'was only me who was trampled." Kozad said with a forgiving smile. If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

OOC: okay, i guess we lost Kalia and Doombug. That leaves five characters. Do any wish to give up? Should we go at a faster, more exciting pace? It would be nice to finish a thread for once.

BIC: Kozad roast the deer on newly made fire.

" Dinners ready." Kozad reported to the others when the deer was done.

The warrior sliced off a leg with his axe and began eating away. It has been long since he had eaten.

Darlius took a small piece and began nibbling away. The mage then turned to the others to speak.

" Is everyone ready?" the mage asked in a soft whisper. " After we eat, we will head to the wall. Bring only your weapons. Everything else stays here, we must leave it all behind."

The mage continued with the plans.

" When we reach the wall, we will find a way in. Then we locate the mines and find a way through them to get inside Thorbadin. The gate is not an option, there are too many ogres guarding it. If we are spotted, we stay together. At any time if the party is split up, proceed with the mission. You must find a way to destroy the evil source! After that run for your lives back to this campsite. I will call upon Blitz when we are ready to leave." Dalrius spoke slowly and with care, making sure everyone understood.

" There will be both ogres and tuskers in our way, along with the mind controlled dwarves. It will be difficult to enter, but you are all gifted fighters. That is why i have chosen you four. After we destroy the mind controlling source, the dwarves will be released from evil and it will be much easier to escape with their help." Darlius said. He finished his dinner and took his staff in his hands as he rose. The mage began to walk towards the path leading to the fortress wall. Darlius stopped and turned to look at the others.

" If any wish to leave, now is the time. I will go alone if i must! But let me tell you, death is that way." Darlius said pointing to the opposite direction of Thorbadin. " A chance to live is the way i go. Go back now, and you may live for another year, but after that, you will wish you took my advice. Follow me my friends. Our time has come!" Darlius shouted. The mage turned and began pacing towards the fortress.

Kozad had lost his appetite after the speech. The warrior looked in the direction of the fortress with a sigh. He then looked the way they came and shook his head. The warrior rose and unstrapped his axe. With a wide grin, Kozad ran after Darlius. If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

Airiana was ready. "I will not leave now," she said quietly and stood up. Luckily for her, Airiana had brought nothing with her, save her magic and longbow, and so she had nothing to leave behind. She pulled the cloak's hood over her head and stared off into the distance towards Thorbardin. "I am ready when the rest of you are," she said and continued scanning the walls of Thorbardin. "We will need to take out the guards first if we can. There are at least ten within my range of sight. Mostly Dwarves, but there are two Ogres with them." Tanarias finished his meal and began digging through the snow with his hands, burying his small leather pack and disquising the cache expertly with snow and brush. Satisfied, he tightened the straps on his armor, strung his bow, and stepped to where Ariana and the mage were standing.

"I suggest that if we are to be quiet about things another sleep spell is in order, wizard. I can climb the wall easily enough, but leaving dead in our wake so early would be unwise.""Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

" Sleep spell, kill, whats the difference? If someone else finds them either way, they'll get suspicious and bang one of those gongs on the wall. Then we are in a deep mess. Tanarias, you are excellent with your bow, can you give them a quiet death?" Darlius asked the elf.

When the four got to a bush twenty yards from the wall, the mage thought of other plans.

" Maybe when we get inside the wall, i can conjure a beast of some sort. This will cause a distraction, giving us time to get to the mines without problems. For now we worry about the wall. It is very dark, however, i can see the wall is made of ice! Thats easy enough. Airiana, I am the Frost Mage, I do not have any fire spells. Does a skilled mage as yourself have some firey tricks up her sleave?" Darlius asked with a respectful grin.

" Me might be able to get away without killing, nor putting the guards to sleep. However, they could be a problem on the way out. What do you three think?" Darlius asked the group.

Kozad looked confused. Why couldnt they just barge through the gates and kill any dwarf that gets in their way? The warrior couldnt stand waiting in the snow. He wanted to get to the warm mines as soon as possible.

" I say Airiana rides around Thorbadin in dragon form and set the damned fortress ablaze." Kozad said impatiently.

" No my dear Kozad. We do not want to kill all the dwarves, only those we NEED to. They are not evil, only corrupted. The ogres and tuskers on the other hand, i wish it were that easy. As powerful as our dragon companion is, she can even be harmed by the harpoon-hurling machines of the thanoi. Trust me Kozad, it is better to avoid battle in a situation like this one." Darlius explained.

Kozad sighed in disappointment. If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

"Fiery tricks?" Airiana asked with a smile. "I have many spells that could well suit our needs."

Kozad's idea almost seemed as plausible as the mage’s… and then Airiana remembered the harpoons with a grimace. "Darlius is right, Kozad. I came in contact with one of those machines before. I was lucky then, as I was only passing through, but I doubt I would be so lucky if I were concentrating on creating fire spells."

She then turned her attention back to Darlius. “When would be best for me to cast the spells? I can do it now, if you wish.”

Tanarias shrugged. "Sleeping throats may be selectively cut. But if you prefer to melt your way through please do so by all means. I can get up the wall either way." The elf drew an arrow and knocked it to his bow, ready to begin."Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

" There should be many problems on the other side of that wall. Melt the wall Airiana. Tanarias, as the watchers on the wall fall to the floor, fill them with arrows. When you are ready Ariana. I will cast a spell fit for the situation when i see the forces behind the wall. Tanarias and Kozad, you will fight off the oncoming ogres and thanoi with arrows and steel." The elf simply drew his bow and sighted on an ogre. The arrow, one of the Wolf's gifted shafts, hissed hungily towards the beast's throat as Ariana began her casting. Farothendil."Eyes that fire and sword have seen,

Airiana nodded her head to the mage and turned her attention to the ice wall.

She closed her large, silver eyes and extended her fingers in the wall's direction. She began chanting an ancient magic and around her fingertips danced flickers of fire. The tongue in which she spoke was obviously Dragonic, and it seemed quite impossible for its utterance to come from vocal chords of an Elven body. As her chanting continued, Airiana opened her large eyes, and their colour seemed to have shifted to a colour as bright as the flames that she was calling forth.

The dancing flames joined together between her hands and soon began to grow larger and larger. Lifting her arms into the air, the fireball followed suit and its intensity grew as it rose. The colour becoming closer and closer to white, indicating the hottest of all fires. As her chant reached its peak, the white-hot fireball shot forth and towards the ice wall.

A large hole was blasted into the wall and its outer rim was melting still. Airiana took her longbow up and notched an arrow in it. As soon as the first creature came out, she was ready to take it down.
