OOC: By your leave M'lady Mercedes Lackey. I've enjoyed the stories of "Need" many times, and now choose a story of my own.

BIC: Arwren's head ached, her eyes where sore, and her mind was numb as she tried to bind the wounds of the guardsman. They where all taken by surprise...the party destroyed...men and women dead, all unarmed...killed just for being in the way.

Arwren's father was already lain out, covered with a cloth. Her numb heart felt no more grief...she could no longer see or feel past the now. Fears fell freely and unheeded, as a gentle hand shook her out of her daze. She jumped, and her mind cleared enough to realize that the man she was tending had died under her ministrations.

Wren's dress was torn and stained with blood...her hand bloody to the elbows from an attempt to save lives from Lady Death. Her cobalt blue eyes searched the room....there was not a man unharmed save the cook and her father's personal servent...both unfit to retrieve that had been stolen.

Deinara. Roald's, Wren's brother, bride to be. Deinara's cousins where weeping hysterically. and Wren's mind focused sharply.

I cannot Stay here....

Wren cast a single glance to her brother, Roald's face a mask of pain. it was that look that made her mind. Wren stood up and raced up the stairs to her rooms. She disguarded the torn skirt and corset with a thankful sigh...pulled on breeches and a sleeved leather tunic. with much difficulty she slipped on a chain mail shirt over her head. it had been disguarded by her brother...and fit her perfectly.

She tugged on another leather tunic to muffle the sounds of the mail, and slipped on her boots. She turned from her room, and sraight to her mother's unused Solar...once used for her mother and her maids...sewing and embroidering away the days' light. Roald kept his unused swords here...and she searched for anything she could use....she strapped on a pair of long knives...and a boot dagger....and turned, her gaze searching for a sword...

And stopped...there hanging on a wall was a sword...untouched it seemed by the dust in the room. it's hilt was made with two crecent moons with their backs to each other....she pulled the blade from its' sheath...and felt a tingle run up her arm....as words blazed down the length of the blade.

Need I am called,
Womans need made me
Woman's need I answer
as my maker bade me.

The letters faded quickly...and Wren wasted no more time...she sheathed the sword...already the strange occurance was pushed from her mind...and she raced down to the stables.

The horses where all milling about... with two sharp whistles, one mare separated from the paniced horses...and came to her without pause. Wren quickly saddled the mare...her hands shaking while she tightened the girth...she finished with the chest and rump straps, and got the mare to accept the bit without a fight. She slipped her foot into the stirrup and climbed up into the saddle.

"I have to try..." she muttered...and slapped the reins against the mare's neck. The mare reaced tot eh gate of the keep and turned north...hoves crunching the newly laid dry snow....light brightly by solinari's silver light.~Everyone has a photographic memory.....it's just that some people forget the film.

Ilarân strode along, his furred cloak wrapped tight around him as he made his way through the snow. He peered out from under his hood at the approaching figure, a rider by the looks of things - and heading from the south.

Wasn't that the direction place I was ment to deliver this message to? Ah well - maybey she knows the road to there in any case.

He strode out to stand in the rider's way, his hand close enough to his sword hilt that he could draw it at a moments notice, but not so close as to appear threatening. He stood calmly waiting as the rider approached."Ah, they have a cave troll....."

Wren's mare slowed, and cantered to a stop. the clasp on her cloak word the Felaris crest...a rose over a leaping panther. She stared at the man who stood in her path.

"who ever you are...stand aside...I must ride on!" she shouted, sitting straight in the saddle...her hand resting on the sword at her waist. Her Mare pranced eagerly...and Wren tugged lightly on the reins to calm the battle trained beast.

'well...Out with it!" she demanded.~Everyone has a photographic memory.....it's just that some people forget the film.

Ilarân snorted as she spoke, spitting to one side,

Pah, that accent! She's a damned noble all right.

"I'm looking for a Lord Felaris, carrying an urgent message from one Alanthos Deleris. I'm assuming from your crest, your accent and the fact that you can't ride worth a damn that you are a member of his house? Care to point me towards him, or whoever is in charge if he's unavaliable?"

He glanced up and down the horse with a look of pity in his eyes,

"And take your damned hand away from that sword or I'll take it off.""Ah, they have a cave troll....."

Wren bit her tounge...she had Deinara to think about. "I am Lady Felaris...the Lord of the keep is dead....I am going after the ones to attacked us...there is no one else fit to do so."

and for your information ruffian..I learned from the Que-shu plainsmen on how to ride. She thought Scathingly. She reluctantly released her grip off the sword. "what is your message..." she said

Fool of a man....I'd like to see him try.... came a sleepy murmer in the back of wren's mind...and she stared blankly around....wondering...who... But the voice was feminine...not the voice of this man....

she stared down at the sword in shock...it was giving off a pale blue glow...very faint... "Need...." she murmered softly...trying to remember just what it was about this sword that she couldn't remember....~Everyone has a photographic memory.....it's just that some people forget the film.

" Owwwww! Easy with that thing! Yeowch! Please no more!" Gruin squirmed in pain as the woman worked on his small leg. " Im okay now. T'is a mere arrow hit. Thank you! Has Wren left yet?" The woman nodded and pointed to the door.

" Oh great! She's going to battle already?! She needs me!" Gruin rose and limped off to the stables. He selected the perfect stead, a small pony fit for a dwarf as himself.

" Horses! Humph! Pitiful creatures." Gruin struggled mounting the pony. It was difficult for him in full armor. He wore full chain-mail and had an axe strapped to his back. On his blond haired head he wore a horned helmet. He then rode off in the same direction as Wren.If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

Jahl watcher her leave. He saw the conviction in her eyes, and he knew that no one would have been able to stop her. But she need not go alone. He turned, and looked at himself in the silver bordered mirror.
The dark green of his leather leggins was matched by the vest, over his bare chest. Travelling clothes. His broad shoulders were slumped, still in grief over the loss of his sister, Deinara. I will get you back, he said to himself I promise...

He slumped into a cushioned chair, and rubbed his eyes furiously, as they had started to water. He would not show weakness. I will go after Wren, he thought. I will help her find my sister. He started packing. A small food pouch he stuffed with hardtack, and put it in his leather traveling bag, which had served him well over the years.

He had always been a hunter, a woodsman. Even though his wealthy
family line demanded he act more "civilised", he would have nothing of it. He detested the life of a spoiled rich boy, so he had learned the ways of the hunter, the woodsman.
Even though he was but a mere pup, a young man of 20 autumns, he had the strength and conviction of any man twice his years. With him, he brought a pack with hardtack and a waterskin, as well as his bow and arrows with a boot knife and a dagger at his hip.

He knew it would be dangerous, and he only hoped Wren had the mind to bring with her a weapon of some sort. As he swiftly passed the Solar, he didn't see the sword was out of it's holder, on top of the mantelpiece. Already, he was in the stable, just as a black mare came running over to him, without the need to whistle. It was Nightrider, his own mare. He had trained it since it was but a whee colt.
They shared a deep bond, and he took the time to stroke his muzzle before saddling him and finally riding him out of the stable. He was an excellent woodsman, and he would have no trouble tracking her in the snow, as she had taken the forest path. But he saw another set of tracks, these from a pony. They led in the same direction, and he only hoped that they didn't have bad intentions...

Maugetar

Ilarân fished out the envelope. It was unsealed, as it had been given to him.

"Here you go, and don't worry about it being unsealed, I was told by the author the contents and that I was to help you lot if possiable."

He handed the noblewoman the envelope and stepped back,

"Oh yes, and that boot dagger is worn all wrong. A hurried dismount could sever some important blood vessels there. And more important, it might catch the horse a nasty cut as well.""Ah, they have a cave troll....."

DarkSage

His expensive tailored elven boots crunched on dry snow as he prowled around the path, looking for horse tracks. A light snow had newly fallen here, and he was afriad he had lost track of Wren. He was hoping she hadn't veered left on the forked path.
A scent brought down from the breeze was caught in his nostrils. He could smell horse, leather, and sweat. It came from the right. He got climbed back on Nightrider's back, ad soon he was on his way again. He made clicking sounds, and the black mare sped up a bit.
He was sure she had went this way.

As he rounded a bend, he saw her there, reading a letter and standing beside what appeared to be a messenger from a Lord east of here, by the look of the crest on his breast ((hehe :D)). He called out to her, and saw her turn her head towards him. Still a little distance away, he couldn't tell the emotion that passed her face.

Kalia_Majere
10/10/2002 2:35 PM

Wren turned...and saw Jahl with is black mare heading up the trail. She tucked the letter into a belt pouch and nodded to him...she knew better than to try to turn him away...she only hoped that he wasn't too injured to slow them down.

She turned her head and stared at the messenger... "alright....if you're to come then we should go....every second lost is a second more that Deinara is taken even further...." She clucked her tounge softly, and the mare turned without a protest...shouldering with Jahls mare. IronHeart and Nightrider where heard mates...both born of Que-shu battle stock...well bred, and highly sought horses...for they where rarely allowed outside of the Que-Shu plains.

He does have a point child....though I hate to admit it...tuck that dagger to the outside of your leg... Came Need's voice deep within Wren's mind. Wren stared at the sword again with surprise...but switched the dagger's position. She wasn't used to using blades...bows where her specialty.

"Jahl...the letter says that there was a suspected attack....From Deinara's Uncle... It is still unsure if it was because of him that they attacked an took her...or if it was he who set the attack..." She shifted uneasily. "Either way...they've headed north..we should continue that way." She tapped the mare on her right shoulder, and she turned...and with a sharp command in Que-Shu...the mare picked up her heels and cantered lightly down the path...keeping to an easy-ground eating, untiring lope.

"Not.... Uncle...." he stood there in a state of shock. "Why would he do such a thing? Our own Uncle..."
He stood silent, absently stroking his mares neck. He spoke some soothing words in Que-Shu, for he knew when the muscles in it's back tensed that something was wrong.
He looked around them, behind and before. In the woods he thought he heard the soft scrape of a cloak on a tree. His eyes narrowed. "Wren, we have to get out of here. Fast."
With that, he spoke a loud command and Nightrider started running at a fast pace. He looked behind, and Wren came swiftly beside him. He could see the look of confusion and worry on her face. The messenger too had taken up his horse and was quickly following. That's when a band of what looked to be low-quality mercaneries came rushing out of the brush, running towards them. He told Wren and Ilaran to go ahead, that he would guard the rear.
His bow came switfly to hand, and he shot and arrow just as a rider came close enough to hack him to pieces. He had hawk-eyed precision, and little did this band of ruffians stand a chance against him. But what he didn't know, was that they had a backup band and they came from behind him. To his right, a sword was flashing, and he thought he saw a tint of blue. He didn't have time to look, as he had his hands full with.
With a sword he took from the dead rider, he jumped off Nightrider, and was waiting in battle stance. He could feel an aching pain come from his swordarm, and a creeping headache. But he paid these no heed....

OOC:Just so you know, Ilarân doesn't have any heraldic symbol. He is an old friend of a freind of the man who sent the message and owes fealty to no-one. That is an important point, No-one.

IC: Ilarân swore heavily as he span around he saw the one called Jahl trying to take on the attackers. The fool was injured already - besides, since when did nobles really know anything about fighting. With a snarl Ilarân drew his sword and plunged into the back of the group who had encircled Jahl.

He tore into the mercenaries with a vengance, the stench of humanity filling his nostrils. He snarled and fought as he always had, his longsword weaving a web of steel around him as he suplimented it with the long dagger in his left hand. He emerged from the other side of the group, he turned and wrapped his cloak corner in his left hand, using it like a duelling shield as he fended off more attackers."Ah, they have a cave troll....."

Walking into the middle of the fray, were two unsightly characters, The Dean and Larkin. Close behind them followed the devil Cevromaises, who floated about on one foot. He threw ash and other assorted dust objects at the mercenaries, and started an ogre on fire.
The one called Larkin threw down a vase, and the shattering noise startled all who were fighting. "I am Larkin, this is the Dean, and that is the devil Cevromaises. We represent the WBCLU, or Were-Badger Civil Liberty Union, and we speak for the king of all were-badgers, Mike Kowplansky. You are hereby ordered to stop all eating or other mistreatment of were-badgers, with the exception of three armed were-badgers, who may be rabid and should be shot on sight."
The devil Cevromaises spoke words of an ancient language, and suddenly a rift opened in the ground, from which were-badgers and Nazis spewed out in numbers to rival Bill Clintons infidelities. He spoke: "I am the devil Cevromaises, and you are all my slaves!" "Next thing you know there's money missing from the dresser and your daughter's knocked up. I've seen it a thousand times."

Gruin had been lost, and Wren was nowhere in sight. Right when he was about to give up and go back to the fortress, he heard the lovely sounds of BATTLE! Gruin kicked at his pony who began to gollup across the snow with great speed. Gruin was getting very used to riding, he looked like he actually knew what he was doing.

Gruin heard the sounds coming from behind some tree's. He rode on and found that there was a large area behind the tree's that he had not noticed. Then, with sudden shock, he saw Wren being attacked by riders!

" Dont worry Wren! Gruin is here!" The dwarf rode his pony passed where two fighters looked as though they were aiding Wren. But Gruin did not worry about them, he saw a rider come from behind Wren carrying a sword, who had not seen it. Gruin unstrapped his axe from his back. He held it behind his back, then threw it with enough force to knock down an elephant. In struck the rider right in the shoulder, who spun off, letting his sword fly across the snow. Gruin dismounted his pony.

" Hahaha!" Gruin was really aiming for the riders head, but who needs to know that? He pulled his axe out of the rider and brought it down once more, finishing the job.

Gruin stood next to Wren and was watching the two warriors taking the evil riders to school.

" Well Wren, looks like you found some good company!" The dwarf patted his friend on the back.If your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

Wren turned and smiled at the dwarf. She froze, and her eyes went blank. Wren drew the sword "Need". She whirled expertly, cutting down the asassin that had snuck up behind her... the man fell without another sound....and Wren's eyes re-focused. and dropped the sword in disbelief

Is that any sort of a Thank you The blade retorted sharply. "Gods above and below!" Wren cursed as she gingerly picked the blade. She looked at her two friends and her new companion, confusion evident in her blue eyes.

The blade's huskily feminine voice laughed in the back of Wrens mind....and her eyes widened in shock as she noticed that the other three wore identical looks of surprise. "um...You heard that too?" she asked hesitantlyOne cannot assume that something that looks like an animal isn't an intelligint person~~Nor that something that looks human is more than a Beast.

Jahl was outnumbered. Everyone else had their hands full, but he was faring the worst. The ogres saw him as easy prey, because of his sore skills in swrdplay. He could have used his bow, but it was in too close range. It was only a matter of time before he faltered and was speared on an ogre long sword.... Swoosh!
An arrow embedded itself in his back. His eyes grew large in disbelief, and already the ogres were taking their chance. They came in to finish him off, but someone was there to fed them off. A flashing sword cut them to pieces, as he fell to the ground.
His vision was distorting rapidly, and he could feel consciousness slipping from his grasp. His last thoughts were of his dear, lost sister. He would never again get to see her..... A single saphire tear fell to the ground.
He could see the one who tried to save him stadning over him, as they saw him lost. He could feel his spirit slipping away, to Paladine in the heavens...

((OOC: There is a chance he could be saved, but it would require a miracle of healing! If not, then I can focus on some other threads...))

Too long... came the muttered reply. Wren stared at the blade again and turned to Jahl...

"Can you help him?" She aksed, holding the blade before her. I can try...my magics are most targeted to women..not men...but I may be able to stablize him.... Wren walked over to Jahl... Lay me next to him...though I'll need your strength to do this....I'm no Healind Adept...

Wren nodded and lay the sword down, she sat down beside Jahl, and lay his hand on the hilt...her own hand covering his. She felt an overwelming dizziness and slipped beneath a wave of grey.

She woke a moment later...Jahl resting peacefully, his wounds all but Completely healed....he wouldn't die...but he would be sore for a while. One cannot assume that something that looks like an animal isn't an intelligint person~~Nor that something that looks human is more than a Beast.

Bav-Mordrin sat writing. His quick elegant hand swiftly attacked the contract in front of him. Slender but fierce fingers gripped the quill effortlessly. He was a very articulate, and could put that to good use in his contracts. The subtle dealings often back fired on those he hired before they even knew it.

Intense sky blue eyes never left the appearing ink. Not a word was mis-spelled. Dark hair was tied back, braided. His chisled features were striking, breath taking. Few women looked at him and remembered to exhale. He never glanced their way. Those fluttering eye lashes and done up faces....never appealed to his tastes.

Finishing the document, he sealed it with wax and left it on the table. Bav-Mordin was what was termed a Sorcerer. A mage of sorts he supposed. But one born with a in-nate arcane gift. From an early age he had honed his skills. The only draw back he soon realised was that the number of spells open to Wizards was not readily available to him, but an added bonus was he didn't have to mess around with all that memorising. He simply had to feel the magic and gather the energy. And he did so with earnest.

He wore a pair of leather breeches, black. He wore no shirt, as his robe covered his chest. Splitting as it reached his waist revealing the breeches under as he walked. The black silkand velvet rustled on the wooden floor. His boots thudding gently. His sword hung over the chair.

A knock came at the door. "Enter.", his voice was empty, void. The door opened. "M..master, the...p-prisoner has regained consciousness again....". A smile touched his lips. "Very well....you may leave." The small servant closed the door and Bav-Mordin took another, behind the bookcase. Summoning a small flame, he descended the stone, spiral staircase, taking him deeper.

There, at the bottom, the room grew to an immense size, its corners lost in shadows. A figure stirred not far away, a wailing cry. Again he smiled. "I see you wake my dear...sleep well?", he chuckled. "Now...let us start again. Tell me everything you know about Deinara?"

The quivering women could hardly move with fear, "I know nothing my Lord....i cannot tell you anything other than that i already have....i did not see her on many occasions as it were......please my Lord...show mercy, let me leave, give me release...." Mercy....she wanted mercy.....he knew little of the word.

"Oh you shall have release my dear.....but i have a few more experiments i wish to try out. Do you mind?", her sob racked her frail body. She could take no more.....but he would make her, he could keep her alive for as long as he wanted. The barrier surrounding her dropped as he raised a hand. She bolted. Her feet, unfeeling ran hard. He enjoyed it when they struggled. Throwing a hand out towards her, and making a grasping action, tendrils of green smoke ripped throught the air, coing out of darkness. Twisting around he body, wrists and ankles, pulling them apart.

Suspended in mid air, she screamed. Her cries sent his skin prickling with anticipation...."The pain will be intense but only in passing.....you should survive the process......", with a flick of his wrist, small jolts of blue energy raced over he skin. Green gases swirled and choked her, blood sprouted from pores, her nose, ears....eyes.

The sight was grossly horrifying. Her body mutalated, perversely altered. He licked his lips, her blood spotted his face. The rest drenched the floor.

"Well now that wasn't so bad was it.....", she didn't respond, but she was still awake....the pain had transcended any vocal voicing, her cries were from the soul....he could hear them....it was music....

"Now my dear you will have to excuse me....i am expecting company....", he stroked her hair and lifted her chin.....her eyes net his...such hatred, such fear....he would use that soon enough....given time...with that he dropped her back in the barrier and stalked out the room, and back up the stairs.Come see my site : http://pub63.ezboard.com/bthedream60488

Rena sighed and leaned against the wall. She could hear the girls' screams fall silent...but the power still there... She knew that Bav Mordin would use the girls' fear and hatred as a nearly unexhaustible source of power.

She wondered if they found out anything more about this "Sword of Lives" that they heard so much about...The rumor was that Lady Deinara held the sword....but they didn't know where.

"Is all Well M'lord?" Rena asked...her dark hair shielding her eyes from his intense gaze.

Rena nodded and walked beside Bav mordin...though a slight step behind him.

Deinara sighed...this was it...and she knew it. the sword will go to someone else...and her days of protecting it would be over. The Sword of Souls... Deinara's blue eyes turned to the rising moons...tears quite visible.

"Gods protect the would-be carrier of this sword...." she murmered softly.

-----------------------------------------

Need stirred and reached out with her own mage senses....and reacted with a start! the Sword of Souls? so that's what this was all about...but...if Deinara was the Keeper of The Sword...if whoever had her knew...what would happen now?

Arwren sighed as she waited by the fire...Deinara... She shook her head and stood. She bade Nightrider to kneel, and she helped Jahl into the saddle...with a quick adjustment...Jahl was secured to the saddle...

"Home isn't far...Nightrider will take him back...he's safer with her than all of us combined." she said as she gave the mare a few commands in Que-Shu. the mare snorted and began the trek home at an easy pace.

"Alright...we're going..." she said when they suddenly heard a noise from behind them...someone was coming through the underbrush...

"Blasted thorns...", he picked a few of the annoyances from his arm and then stood up.....he searched those standing before him with a sharp eye.....and what strange eyes they were.....as deep as the ocean, yet as clear as the shallow rock pools....the colour of moonlight almost....the silver moon, a stark contrast to the blackness of his hair, that cascaded like liquid over to his shoulders.

His features....both a sharp cruelty, and un-yeilding grace......an odd mix. He smiled....showing white teeth....slender and nimble fingers rested naturally on a hilt, and a small pouch hung at his side.

"Greetings....i am Increus.....would you mind telling me where i am....i'm afraid that i got a little lost, took the wrong turning on the road i think..", he smiled slightly...and again, that savagery, but also an un-mistakeable look of innocence....

Great...another wimp of a man Wren's shock turned to flushed embarrasment as her hand clenched on the sword's hilt. That's enough you hunk of steel...! She sent back.

"you are just north of Felaris keep...east of Solamnia." Wren said softly...she watched the stranger carefully, but watched the reactions of her friend, and the "messenger"One cannot assume that something that looks like an animal isn't an intelligint person~~Nor that something that looks human is more than a Beast.

As the stranger came form the bushes, Gruin grabbed his axe handle in alert. He stood next to Wren protectively. After the man spoke and imposed no threat, Gruin eased the grip on his axe and stook out his hand.

" Greeting mate! The names Gruin."

Ilarân trudged off in the direction that the noblewoman had been headed, his hand resting on his weapon, as if trying to disguise some aspect of it from view. He looked off down the track and sighed slightly, praying to anyone willing to listen that these nobles would either shut up or die. Or both. Then he continued to walk, his sharp elven eyes scanning the horizon as Ilarân fell into his main role as scout."Ah, they have a cave troll....."

Bav-Modrin stolled aimlessly amoung the trees with Rena. She was a favourite of his. She obeyed him heedlessly and rarely questioned him. He would protect her for like a father to a daughter, but then he would also rip her open if she ever crossed him. Such was his look on life....he believed that good and evil were only metaphors....all that existed were those with power, and those too weak to seek it. He was one with power.

"I have a task for you my dear....find her....my niece, it shouldn't be that difficult. Bring her to me...the Sword must be mine at all costs. Beat her to a bloody pulp if necessary, but do not kill her, i cannot extract the sword if she dies. Her soul muct be intact."

He stopped and faced her. "I have great faith in you Rena...you have never failed me, don't start now....", placing a hand on her shoulder, that was her signal of dismissle. He trodded onwards through the trees. The grass and flowers blackening as he treaded on them.

Rena nodded, and turned once Bav Mordin was out of sight. She saddled her favorite Midnight Gelding, and rode on mercilessly to the assigned campsite where her men where hopefully holding the girl already...

She smiled to herself as she rode on...pleased that she had acted correctly...she found the camp near nightfall, and was greeted by the man that commanded the mercs that she hired. She dropped a pair of large purses in his hand and quickly dissmissed him an his company. "leave the tent that you have her in intact. I have payed you enough to compensate." she strode by without another word and walked inside...sealing it with magic from the inside.

"well well...Lady Deinara...The Soul Child, She who carries the Sword of Souls within her own being." Deinara's eyes met Rena's icy blue ones with a tremor of fear.

"You shall never have the sword...." Deinara hissed, her eyes defiant. Rena smirked, and Struck the girl hard across the face. Deinara fell hard, her blonde hair spilling around her. The girl's eyes filled with defiant tears...as her hand strayed to her cheek, cut by the signate ring that Rena wore.

"you'll do better not to defy me child..." she spat, keping close to Deinara, blocking out all other sight. "you will tell me more about this Sword of Souls!" she hissed, her hand tightening around Deinara's throat...just enough to panic the girl.

Wren rode on...she noticed that the newcomer had indeed followed them. Need had gone silent...a pondering silence...as if the sword was contemplating her next scathing remark.

Wren eased her mare next to Increus, allowing the mare to keep pace with him. "where are you from stranger? and what brings you to our lands?" she asked as they rode on...hoping for a momentary distraction from the fear that pounded in her throat. One cannot assume that something that looks like an animal isn't an intelligint person~~Nor that something that looks human is more than a Beast.

OOC: um...Hello??? lol okay...going on...with or without you :P

BIC: Rena sneered and struck the girl again....Deinara fell to the floor, her face bruised and battered...

"We will have that sword..." Rena spat, shaking her hand since it stung from the last slap she delivered.

a commotion from outside caught Rena's attention...and she walked outside. The Merc Company that she had hired was still there....and they where fighting....a small group of four was attacking them....

Rena's eyes widened as she saw Deinara's sister-in-law....That Wench, Arwren. The sword she carried was obviously magical...for the girl cut down all that came her way. Rena ran from the tent with a cry of rage,....her own sword drawn, racing for the girl....knocking over all in her path...

Swords met and sparked....magic against magic.... Deinara had gotten up...and stood near the tent entrance...tears and blood streaked her face. Wren fought Rena with all her soul....but the older woman was winning....pushing Wren back....with a stinging Clang of steel against steel....Need flew from Wren's hand....

"NO!!!" Deinara screamed....and ran forward...knocking Wren clear from Rena's killing strike... Both Girls tumbled in the snow and dead leaves.

"Damn!" Rena cursed....and she turned to attack again.... only to stare in awe at Deinara....She stood before Wren...her hands crossed over her chest.

"Sword of the Noble Soul....Power Of the Gods that sleep within me.....Heed your master and Come forth!" A circle of blue/white light glowed brightly from under Deinara's hands....the light grew brighter as she lowered her hands. Wren stared at the light in awe....

Deinara leaned back slightly....and from the center of the circle of light the hilt of a sword could be seen. Wren reached for the hilt, her hand closing on the silvery pommel....pulling the sword from deinara's body.... The sword was about three and a half feet from pommel to blade tip. The hilt was a praying angel...it's wings forming the hand guard. Wren stared at the sword...then To Deinara....but only had that single moment....when Rena attacked

"Give me that Sword!!" she shrieked.Do you ever question your life?

As Rena swept her blade down, another whipped out from the side and clashed with it, both swords stopping in a clash of magic. The defending sword was long and blue, with curved extensions placed ocassionaly along it's length. The sword itself was horrifying, the flat of the blade was covered in a myriad of small faces, all raied up from the blade as if they were straining against a tight cloth - and every one of them was shrieking in what seemed to be the upmost torment. Holding the swords's twisted hilt was a gloved hand, belonging to a particular elf, by the name of Ilarân.

Increus rasied his own sword as he met his enemy. Throwing up a hand, he whispered several words, a shower of flaming daggers pounded one, where his blade severed another arm. The commotion was dizzying. The actions happening not too far away astounded him. The Sword was pulled from the woman's body. But he didn't let it distract him too much...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bav Modrin heard the shouting, the death screams, he rushed out towards them, livid that anyone would think of attacking. Reaching the skirmish, he noticed the magic user, also with his blade...obviously not a mage, or perhaps a renegade. But then, the blade caught his eyes....The Sword of Souls....his mouth dropped.....here? Now? The gods must have favoured him this day...despite not having had much faith in them.....

He made his way to the sword...noticing also Rena....he frowned....

A figure out in the distance shot two arrows into two men. His aim was as perfect as can be. The hooded figure walked a distance and shot another arrow at the man who was walking towards the magical sword. He would not let that man take it. Two men jumped behind him and with reflexes quick as lightning he twirled around and kicked both men in the face. He drew his two katana's and started to fight with the men. He was just playing with these men and when he got bored he jumped over their heads and landed behind them. The hooded figure then thrusted his katana's into the mens' back. He walked a couple feet and shot three more arrows. The two hit two men again and the other was aimed at the man who wanted the magical sword but he would not let him have it. It was not supposed to be weilded by men so it would remain that way even if the hooded figure had to die. A man came to stop him but he kicked the man in the chest and sent him right into a tree. "You will not have that sword Bav Modrin!" The hooded figure's voice was strong and confident. He walked toward the man with no fear or anger in his heart just ... revenge.

OOC: sorry friend...got other plans....:)

BIC: Wren's attention was stolen by the Sword of Souls. It gave off a silver/white light....Nearly blinding...while Deinara stood rooted to the spot...in a seemingly trance-like state.

Bav Mordin glared at his attacker....but smiled as Rena Attacked the man from behind...providing sufficiant distraction for Bav Mordin to continue his pursuit.

Moments swam sluggishly by for Wren....She failed to notice as Bav Mordin attacked Deinara....killing the sword's host. The Power of the sword enveloped her almost instantly....it's light pulsing in time with her heartbeat...the sword had chosen it's new bearer.......

Wren's eyes unfocused entirely....the light shining in her sapphire eyes. "Sword of the Noble soul...." she murmered.... Her voice sounding strange....almost etherial. Abruptly, her Rapport with the sword was shattered...... Pain destroyed Wren's facination with the sword..... Steel peircing flesh...scraping and chipping bone.... Wren's grip losened....the sword fell.

Arwren's eyes where wide with shock. Her mouth worked silently, desperately trying to form words. Her eyes refocused for a breif moment on Need. "Help... Need..." she gasped, hoping that someone would understangd what she meant. Bav Mordin pulled his sword free, allowing it to fall to the ground, still stained by Wren's blood. His attentions completely on The Sword.

Wren fell forward...her hand outstretched for Need...which lay just out of her reach. Bav Mordin picked up the blade...his eyes filled with an insane lust for power....little did he know that the sword had chosen it's next carrier....and only the carrier would choose it's bearer.Do you ever question your life?

as Increus pressed Need's hilt into Wren's hand, the blade gave off a bright blue flash....the blade glowed a pale blue, as the light spread from the sword to Wren.

As Increus watched...the worst of the wound healed...leaving the bloody gash, shallower, now only seeping blood where it once flowed freely. Wren gasped for breath, and then her breathing became less shallow...sign that the pain was leaving.

Bastard....he'll pay for that...thinking he can do as he pleases?? Came Need's nasty retort as Wren struggled to sit up...the wound was nearly fully healed, though now it was no longer life-threatening, Need's magic stopped healing it, though she did protect it from infections and the like.

Bav Modrin stood his ground, he had still to win the Sword. Threads of power encirlced the Sword and him, caressing skin, rising from the ground and ascending into the skies. A bolt of red lightning flashed from the blade, striking and shattering a nearby tree. Sweat beaded his forehead, forming droplets at his nose. You will be mine Sword....contest not my power...you do not wish to test its limits.....nor do I..!!

As though hearing the threat, and musing over it, the Sword yielded....for now. A look of exhaulted triumph crossed his face, then he turned to Wren....."Come then Girl! You will have to take it from my cold and dead fingers before i hand it over!!"

Throwing a hand forward, flashes of green lightning arched and hissed their way through the air. After lowering his hand, he brought the Sword to his lips, kissed it, then pointed the tip at Wren..."I said come Child!!"Come see my site : http://pub63.ezboard.com/bthedream60488

Wren cried out in sudden pain as the sword acquiesced. She fell to her knees, holding Need close to her body. "You'll not get away with this..." she hissed, raising her eyes to lock them with Bav Mordin. She leaned against Need, pulling herself to her feet....She would get that sword back or die trying.

NO! If you fail, the sword will be lost to Darkness...for all time! came a frantic voice. Need was glowing again. A woman, of an indeterminable age appeared between Wren and Bav Mordin. Run! Get out! you are in no shape to face him! Die, and the blade will be lost forever!

Wren stared in surprise as she realized she couldn't raise need....though it's magic protected her, she couldn't use the weapon, she wouldn't let her. "No! He Will pay for what he's done!" She cried, tugging on Needs' hilt.

The woman turned to Increus and held out her hand. Get her out of here! NOW! she shouted and changed to a wisp of smoke as Bav Mordin brought his sword down, in an attempt to silence the woman...the wisp returned to the blade, and the voice continued.

Not even the sword of souls can harm one who is already dead, fool! You can't be rid of me that easily and all could now realize that it was the voice of the blade, Need. Wren stared at Bav Mordin, the fear showing in her eyes....her gaze swept to Deinara's still form, and the tears finally fell.... She could feel Increus tugging on her arm...and with a sob, she allowed him to pull her along, oblivious to the fact that Need had let go, and was still in Wren's grip.

Wren ran on, stumbling twice before Increus helped her into her saddle...

Run! Get out now! Fight him later...you'll have a better chance! Need Cried as the group raced on, their horses near panic at the magnitude of power in the air.

The figure than pulled up a arrow and his bow and aimed it at Bav Mordin to try and keep Arwen alive sense he too could here the voice. He shot two arrows at Bav and then threw a dagger that clanged against the sword. At least I tried he said to himself. He then whistled and a horse came out of a bush and he jumped onto it as he did so he turned around and said something in a long forgotten language and a ball of electricity was in his palm. He then threw the electricity at Mordin and it engulfed him in it. Of course the Sword was protecting him so his little spell would only bind him for a few seconds or so.. The group stared in shock as the sword's light reached for wren, tendrils of white light wrapping around her arms.

The Bearer has been Chosen....

Came a soft, etherial voice that echoed aound them....it was now midnight, the start of the longest night...Midwinter solstice.

Wren's features relaxed, as though a peaceful sleep had stolen over her....but her eyes opened just a bit, their dark blue depths unfathomable. the light of the sword seemed to reflect in her eyes. She raised her arms to the sword, though she lay still on her back. the sword flashed with a bright pusling light, echoing Wren's heartbeat. as her hands neared the sword, it became a reality....fully in this plane...

Another moment....The Sword Plunged downward towards Wren....to any who tried to stop it, found themselves halted by an invisible barrier. As the blade seemed to peirce Wren's breast....it faded into a shower of shimmering sparks.....as the hilt faded from sight, a bright glow centered itself on Wren's breast.....then winked out. Wren lay still on her bedroll....eyes closed peacefully....deep asleep.

Back in the labratory....only a vauge shadow of the sword remained...Do you ever question your life?

The soft essence of a strange magic caused his mind to tingle....No....

He stormed back to the labratory......"The Sword....!!" Gone.....Bav Modrin's chest heaved....small spheres of energy danced in circles around him, spinning faster....faster, bluring into lines of colour and light.

"Bitch!!"....and he was gone....travelling paths of magic seldom trode by any Tower Mage....

Wren stirred once more...the force of Bav Mordin's malice was felt even with the sword's magic. The magic seemed to surround Wren, and she opened her eyes. Their blue depths nearly blank for one heartbeat...then they cleared, and she struggled to stand.

She stumbled once, and stood slowly. "He is coming...we have to keep moving....." She said softly, her voice a trifle shakey. She turned, and stared at her companions, and felt the stirring of her soul..the warm presence of the sword.....her hand curled around Need's hilt, and she looked to Increus...it was his quick thinking that saved her life in the first place....what did their future hold now?Do you ever question your life?

"Yes we should keep on moving." A voice said from the bush. Out of the bush came the cloaked man. He had his hood up and looked at the others. "He shall find us if we don't move soon."

He had been keeping watch from the bush all night long, just incase. He was tired yet with the threat of Bav Mordin breathing down their backs he could not sleep. He was rocking back and forth as he thought about sleeping. He then stood firm and shook of the idea of sleep. He wasn't gonna sleep until he knew it was safe. And that could take a long time..

" Thank you Captain Obvious!" Gruin shouted to the cloaked figure.

" So, Wren. Where the hell are we supposed to go! I personally dont know any nearby villages of anysort!" Gruin protested. He then strapped his axe on his back and went to get his pony.

" I wanna go home!" Gruin monedIf your expecting a kick in the balls and you get a slap in the face, its a victory!

IC: As the group moved on Gan watched from the bushes, an arrow fitted in his bow, ready to kill the dwarf.

As he heard the pulling back of a bow he grabbed his and fitted a arrow into it while spinning around. He then was on one of his knees and aimed at the bush that he had heard the sound coming from. "Who goes there?" He looked into the bushes only to see a arrow pointed at the dwarf. "Dwarf get out of the way!"

As he said so he fired a arrow right at the string of the person in the bushes bow. It hit its mark and the arrow fell to the ground and the string was broken. "Come out or I'll shoot." He put another arrow in and waited. Of course he didn't like killing but, if it meant keeping himself alive he would do it.

He knew that the person wouldn't dare try and attack unless he was hired to kill Wren or anybody else in the party. He watched the bush intently. If the person wasn't coming out soon he was gonna have to shoot the person. "Come out or I will shoot you." He raised his arrow ready to shoot.

Gan wrapped his red cape tightly around him to hide the armour.

he stepped out of the bush with his hands in the air, " d-d-don't sh-sh-shoot m-m-m-m-m-mister" he said in his best child voice

Ilaran looked coldly down at the small figure, then stepped forward and whipped the cloak aside - the weather wasn't warm enough for anyone to need to hold a cloak around them. Therefore, the elf reasoned, the child was hiding something.

A grunt of satisfaction escaped his lips as the armour was revealed. Ilaran swung his blade up, it's writhing surface barely a hair's breadth for the figure's neck,

"One more lie and I will kill you - a child you might be, but I'm not known for my fondness of humans.""Ah, they have a cave troll....."

Ilaran's hand was scarred and burning as the sword melted.

"Do not under estimate me elf. I am much more powerful than you think."

Gan's sword was out in a flash and was poised at Ilaran's throat. His dagger came swiftly to ward off everyone else that might challenge him.

Wren frowned, and she leaned on Increus for support, the power given to her from the sword of souls made her a bit shakey. Her hand closed around Need's hilt, and she watched the child closely.

"Who the hell are you? What do you want" She growled, her blue eyes dark, but the spark of power that was there when the sword appeared above her, was still there, and it glinted dangerously. The blade, Need, was silent under her hand...though it was a pensive silence...as though the Geas blade was figuring something out.

Wren's eyes blanked, as the Geas Blade took over....The goblins never knew what happened, they fell with barely a screeching cry. Wren's hand remained on the blade....while her hand outstretched, and within her palm, a bright silver light appeared.

"I am Lady Arwren Felaris...Guardian of the Sword of Souls....Chosen of the Geas Blade, Need. " Her blue eyes narrowed, though they continued to be lit within, a light akin to the sphere of energy that rested in her palm.

"What do you want? I shall not ask again" She said, her voice soft, yet it held within it all the command of her station.Do you ever question your life?

OOC: okay...I've allowed you to play though the story is well underway...but the least you can do is read the story correctly! The character who was the nephue of Bav Mordin is no longer in the story...he was badly injured, and sent home.

The Three other characters with Wren had nothing to do with the fight.
If you are gonna play do it right please.

BIC: Wren's eyes narrowed. "I'd like to know which one of my friends you accuse...none of them are related to that monster....the only one was wounded badly, and I sent him back home. You're a fool to attack a group without understanding what you're doing."

Wren dropped her hand, the silver sphere of energy dissappeared as though it where never there...the light dimmed within her eyes. She replaced Need into the Sheath, and turned away, Showing her back to the stranger....obviously not worth the waste of power. She slipped the Geas Blade into the holdster on her saddle, and tightend the Girth on her BattleMare.

"We're leaving, We will continue north....keep to game trails...stay off the main roads....we'll face this monster of a man...but on our tearms...not his." She glanced back at Gan, knowing that he really didn't have a chance of harming the Messenger originally sent to warn her family.

"Let him go...you want a chance at Bav Mordin? I suggest you set your priorities in order, and go after the man who did this haenous act...and not your suspicions." She turned, and swung up into her saddle, turned the mare's head so that she faced the group.

"You had better do as I ask....with the sword I hold in my being, I could destroy your very being without flinching..." she said this softly...a lie she knew...but....one could never know.Do you ever question your life?

Ilaran smiled coldly at Gan as his sword liquified and ran down his arm into the palm of his hand, re-forming into it's former shape. The elf's hand appeared un-burned. The strange blade seemed to writhe and snarl as it tugged in Ilaran's hand - as if trying to taste the blood of this impetuous youth.
