OOC: This is really for anyone who feels like joining. If you are new to this, or experienced, please feel free to join in.

IC: Galanas threw another large log into the fireplace, the hot embers soon ignited the dry wood and began warming the small room. "Come on children, time for bed", he said. "Oh do we have too", Sasha squeeled as she raced out of the kitchen, her younger brother in tow. "I'm afraid so" Galanas said with a loving smile. With that said, the children scampered off to their room.

Galanas sat down in his chair and relaxed, the warmth of the fire soothed his body and soul. Feeling his eyelids grow heavy, he pulled a blanket onto himself and let sleep take him.

He woke early the next morning, the room felt uncommonly cold. Standing up he noticed the back door was slightly ajar, had he forgotten to close it?, he thought. Looking down towards the ground he answered his own question. Muddy footprints caked the stone floor. As he followed the trail of prints his heart began to race. "Children"!!, he shouted, the words catching in his throat. He raced to their room, only to find their beds empty.

Brynn had gone over this story a thousand times since it had been told to him. It turned out that a total of seven children were taken that night from the small village. The ensuing grief and anger had led the village to nominate five companions who were to follow up on rumours of a slave caravan making its way to a mining camp near Neraka.

Finding the caravan had not been too difficult, finding the right time to attempt a rescue, on the other hand, had proven a more difficult task.

Hiding in a thicket, Brynn felt the cool breeze rustling the slowly dying leaves around him. The morning frost was all but gone and the sun's rays warmed the woods inhabitants. Within a month winter would descend upon the land. Brynn rubbed his hands together in an attempt to ward off the cold, he made a mental note to buy some warmer clothes. He had a feeling it would be a cold winter.

Crouched in the thick underbrush for the last hour was proving to be most uncomfortable. He looked up and down the dirt road, he could only hope the caravan would be coming shortly. Although he could not see the other four that travelled with him, he knew they were close.

"Mwahahahahahaha! I've not felt so happy since .... yesterday!" Lucas, the caravan master of the Caravan of Death mwaha'd. His insane laughter so loud that it drowned out the pain-filled cries of the children.

"HEHEHHEHEHEE! Your right!" His second-in-command, Folken, the legendary slaver with the unbeaten record of having personally captured 10,000,000 slaves, agreed with him. The half-ogre passed his boss an aleskin, the liquid inside sloshing merrily.

Heh. One swig of that poison and the profits for this trip will be all mine. Folken thought evilly.

Ashlynne lay in the brush, her dark hair and clothing masking her perfectly in the bleak landscape of early winter. many months had passed since her arrivial to Krynn, and she was happy she had decided to stay...her skills as a police officer, and her fighting skills had made many merc companies squabble over her.

but to their dismay she was a free-lance merc, and usually only helped out with assignments that fit her crime/punishment sense of justice. Her glasses where kept in a small pocket, thanks to a Cleric, she only needed them for reading now. Not long after being on Krynn, she found she had odd capabilities with animals...she never had a pet at home, but now she found it hard to get along without them.

Galahad, her dapple grey war horse was tree tied, twenty yards away, his reins tied loosely so he could pull it loose himself. Innana, her red-tailed hawk perched in a tall tree opposite of Ashlynne's position. Kidnapping kids...that went too far in her mind...cowards.

She rested her head to the ground, she could feel slight vibrations...and could hear the ground tremble beneath the hoves of horses, and the weels of the carvan wagons. She raised her head, her dark brown curls framed her face, her jade colored eyes wide as she whistled softly, mimicing the song birds, with only a slight repetitive irregularity. She hoped that the rest of the group could hear as she scrambled back from the path, and climbed up into the tree behind her, and slipped behind the main trunk.

She stood there unnmoving, her long hair held in place by the trunk itself, and she was thankful for the still air. she could easily reach her quiver, and had her bow chenched tightly in her one hand. Galahad pranced nervously, but Ashlynne sent calming thoughts to the stallion, as Innana launched herself from the tree, and circled high, the hawk knew what to do, to lure them on, allow them to think she had been shot by one of them, and lure them straight to Ashlynne and the rest.In the thinking of a human, a 100 years is a long time

His chest rose and fell in unison with the howling wind. Its sweet breath brushed his blue tinged skin and swept through his hair. Sparkling sapphire eyes reflected silver moonlight, setting them ablaze with life and intelligence. He ran though the forest freely. Muscle and tendon working to move him faster, the wind helping him along.

Du'Kuli came to a stop. He deftly leapt up into the trees to greet the woman standing amoungst them. "Greetings...."

He ran gracefully and noiselessly through the forest, as only a Kagonesti elf can do. He was scantily clad, with tattoos decorating his sun bronzed body. A bow, with a half full quiver of arrows sat on is back, and a steel dagger at his hip. He was on the hunt. He heard whispers of game near a small stream. He would bring back a at least two fat does this night.

They were in sight now. A small gathering of deer, two does and three bucks drinking from the stream, named Whisper by his people for it's soft music. Iydaros crouched in the underbrush, as noiseless as the preying owl. He shrugged of his bow, and cocked an arrow in one, fluid motion. His prey was in sight, and he shot without wasting any time.

His first doe was downed, the others started panicking and running frantically. He was a patient archer, with an exceptioanlly steady and precise hand. Reknowned in his tribe, and dubbed 'Hawkeye'. His nest target was distracted by another noise, and he didn't waste his time feling it.

The other deer were by now long gone, taking paths that are almost invisible to others, or less experienced woodsman like himself. Now he was curious as to what had distracted the deer. First, he gather the carcasses, and took out the well aimed arrows from their hearts. He carried them each on a shoulder. The werent too heavy, being smaller than he had imagined them.

He heard the soft hoot of an owl, and he knew someone was there to relive him of his catches. A young brave, not yet sporting any tattoos of his stood waiting silently to take the catch. Another brave stepped out beside him and took one for himself, then they were off to return to the tribe.

((OOC: I'm an elf now!))

His shoulder length ebony hair was held at the base of his neck, with the help of a dyed leather thong. It trailed behind him as he ran throug the thicket, in search of more prey. Bu what he found was different. His fine elven eyesight, and hearing spotted a group of people standing together watching a caravan cajoling through the night. His dark almond shaped eyes were watching intently as they moved around, somehwhat restless.

He heard a sudden rustling to his far left, as a man appeared like the sudden change of a breeze. It was unexpected, and he was taken aback. Certainly he would have heard this human running through the forest. "Strange," he whispered to himself in his native language. As the man walked down to introduce himself to the small group, he cocked an arrow ready to shoot at any signs of danger.

He heard them talk, and found out they were planning to rescue a group of captured children, who were to become slaves in the mines of Neraka. he decided he would lend these humans his help. He jumpd down, making as much noise as a mouse. The gathered were surprised when he suddenly appeared from almost out of nowhere.

"Greetings, friends. I have heard of your plight and would like to lend my help in rescuing these children," he said in Common. His accent was thick, he didn't use the common tongue often. Only when dealing with other races. He offered his bow to their cause, as well as his hunting skills.

"No, not now, Folken." Lucas pushed the aleskin aside. "I'm not thirsty. Besides, I'm enjoying the sight of my... WONDERFUL COLLECTION!" He grinned widely. The grin had become wide and scary enough to tear at his mouth muscles.

He pointed at the jars of yellowish alcohol on his table. Jars which broken body parts of small children floated.

Lucas touched each of them gently, then his hand settled on a jar. He lifted his jar and laughed. "We had been so lucky throughout the years because of THIS, my dear sidekick!"

Inside the jar was a two-headed foetus.

Then, opening the jar, he slid his hand into the it and patted the deformed foetus. "Every single time I touched it, our mission's successful."

Brynn looked up and down the long wooded roadway, suddenly he caught site of the wagon. He moved his finger in a small circle, accompanying it with a soft hoot, informing the others to take cover. Grabbing the elf by his shirt, brynn pulled him to the ground, "you can help our cause by staying unnoticed", he said. They had waited too long to let this opportunity pass them by.

As the caravan drew near, he noticed the two men that sat up front. One held up a jar filled with some sort of trophy, the other he could not make out well enough.

The caravan was now only a few yards away. Brynn walked out into the roadway, he knew those who travelled with him would be covering his every move. "I suggest you disspose yourselves of the cargo, gentlemen, or you will die sooner than later".

Grehrak shook his head at the sight of the elf landing down near the rest of his companions. He stroked his beard, he always did when he was nervous. "Fool what if he gets us caught." Grehrak muttered in dwarven. He then moved his hand from his beard and grasped the axe by his side just in case. He wore light armour so the slave traders could not hear him but he kept his favored axe with him. He also carried two more axes on his back and a warhammer at his side. He had a dagger in a secret pocket inside of his boot.

Grehrak was a hill dwarf. He enjoyed the town he lived in for he often traveled out and it was always nice to come home to a nice warm fire and a mug of ale. But when he heard of the kidnapping of children he strapped on his gear and grabbed his battleaxe. And here he was waiting for the right moment to attack. He was still young at least by dwarven standers only eightytwo years old. But now he wondered about his other compaions who had volintered to go. "Master," said Wart to Lucas, "something is wrong. This man isn't alone," hissed the goblin from inside the wagon.

Wart had joined the slavers caravan after he had given up hope of finding his old master, Hooded. Lucas didn't beat him nearly as often as Hooded had but his evil tendencies more then made up for that.

Ashlynne was so startled by the appearance of the man that she nearly fell. She stifiled her cry, and leaned back against the tree, trying to keep her precarious balance. "Blast you!" she snapped, as her balance returned. "Don't you know better than to sneak up on people?" she hissed softly as she brushed back her dark curls.

Ashlynne tensed, as she heard Brynn call out like she did, and she pressed herself even more firmly against the tree, holding her bow close, two arrows already notched into it. She glared a warning to the man floating before her, and then remained still, waiting for Brynn's signal.

Innana landed in the tree, just above her, and Galahad tugged restlessly against his teather. She calmed them both with a mental thought...and waited. In the thinking of a human, a 100 years is a long time

"I had no intention of frightening anyone," he said innocently as he looked around. "I'm here to help. I've been-" he hesitated "listening to your conversation." He smiled sheepishly. He was young after all, a mere 72 summers. He was in prime shape, his muscles well toned from years spent training and living in the forest. Master archer and skilled hunter. He was growing restless of late, spending most of is time in his village or hunting in the surroundings.

He longed for adventure, to travel the width and lenght of Ansalon. It was the same afflitction commonly known as "wanderlust" to kender. Like his great ancestors, he longed to be free and run the wilds and explore the world. Very naive, to be sure. That is what comes with youth.

Standing far from the side of the road and wrapped in a ugly brown cloak that Brynn had given to her, Drucilla tries to keep her red robes from showing. I can't let those slave traders see me. Well the cloak may be ugly but at least it will keep me warm!

Watching her companions she notices two other have join in. Of course one, a blue skinned man, nearly scares Ashlynne into the Abyss and the other is an elf that Brynn has to pull out of the way. She sees that Grehrak is still in his spot waiting impatiently. Drucilla ducks behind the nearest tree as she see the slaves traders heading down the road.

Drucilla knows that this is the time to act with Brynn standing in the way of the caravan.

Ok..here it goes!Concentrating hard she bring the words of a spell to her mind. As she chants quietly, a rather large Orge is seen coming from one of the trees next to the Caravan. Resting for only a few moments, she begins once more chanting words of a spell. The Orge gives out a bellowing sound making all who hear it turn to look.

Collapsing on the nearest tree, Drucilla turns to see her handywork. The only problem is that Brynn, Ashlynne and Grehrak know she was going to cast this but the other two that have join them have no clue.

I hope they don't go and attack it! she says a silent prayer to the Gods, then turns to look over at her companions. Ok my friends do what you do best!!

The spell was only a diversion, to give her companions an advantage of attack on the Caravan Master and his companions. It seems like it is working.

Gathering up her strenght, Drucilla starts to head towrds the Caravan to help the children and her companions.

Brynn was about to confront the caravan master when he noticed the half ogre pointing his weapon at one of the slave children. Taking a closer look he recognized the child as a local to his village. "Ya bunch of soft, bleeding-heart pansies!" the half-ogre mocks the adventurers. He sees the caravan guards taking the chance of the lull to pull themselves into some semblence of order. One of them takes off his helm, which he'd jammed on backwards and puts it on again the right way.

Idiots. What a buncha greenhorn losers.

Turning back to the heroes, he gloats at their predicament, reserving especial dislike for the weak fool that had offered to pay him.

"Well now, I don't know... you don't look very wealthy to me, and these slaves look well fed. They'd fetch a good price on the block, especially the females..." he leers at one of the girls (he's one sick bastard isn't he :)) who flinches backwards in terror.

"There are seven of the little runts, a hundred steel for the other three males, and forty gold for the females... you could even have a little fun for yourself, eh?"

Then he gestures to the child he's threatening with the crossbow. "But this one, I'm gonna keep till we're safe... call it een-sewer-rance," he rolls the unfamiliar word in his mouth, mangling it almost beyond recognition.

OOC:

Question, does the quest end with saving all the children, or is this one of those threads where there is actually some shady mysterious villain that has yet to be revealed?

And the dead easy solution for this quandary, is to have the as yet unnoticed spellcaster cast a barrier around the child so Folken can look like a total ditz when he pulls the trigger and the bolt bounces harmlessly off it.
(this is just one of many possible solutions).

Earlier, and a few miles away in a small fishing village....

Gartag was pacing back and forth, "where are they" he grumbled to the ships captain. The Dark Knight was not keen on this job, and could not wait to get back to the front lines. He hated dealing with slaves, they were dirty and often stunk, it made for a most unpleasant trip. To make matters worse, on this trip he was to travel with Lucas and a few of his men.

Phlight prepared to land as he neared his master. Landing awkwardly on his arm he squaaked a few times, Gartag listened intently. Suddenly his eyes bulged. "You four" he pointed at the other dark knights, "Get going", he said, pointing to the trail that emerged from the woods. The woods were not far off, the knights would be there shortly.

Back at the Caravan....

The caravan master swung wildly. Brynn was growing tired of this stalemate. Without hesitation he took a dagger from his side and hurled it at the the half ogre. The dagger lodged itself in the creature's forearm, he could only hope that one of the others would take advantage of the opening. He grasped his sword tight, "Now it is your turn" he said calmly to the caravan master.

"I'm afraid not" a strange voice said. Brynn turned around, only to see a dark knight of Neraka with a dagger to Drucilla's throat. "Get this wagon to the meeting point", the dark knight said to Lucas, "We'll take care of this lot".

Folken howled in anger as the dagger bit deeply into his forearm, his finger twitching on the trigger and releasing the crossbow bolt. His aim had been spoiled however, and instead of hitting the boy in the heart and killing him instantly, the barbed quarrel tore into his gut. The child was thrown back by the force of the blow, lying on the floor and whimpering in agony as blood flows copiusly from the ragged wound in his guts...

Folken flung the empty crossbow aside, a killing rage upon him. He was past all reason. "I'm gonna gut you, manling! Snap you in half!" His right arm is beginning to turn numb, instead he draws his sword with his left hand and charges Brynn, slashing at him with a wicked sideways swipe aimed right for his neck...

Lucas frowns when his second in command lunges wildly at Brynn. Is he trying to steal my thunder?

But what surprises him most is to see Brynn REALLY attacking Folken even though the children's lives are in danger.

"That's the stupidest thing I've ever seen." Lucas shakes his head slowly. Whether his comment is directed at Brynn or Folken is a mystery. Then he shrieks at the Dark Knights. "You fools, I could easily kill them ALL without your help. But since you choose to help me, so be it then!"

He walks towards the injured boy, a sadistic smile on his handsome face. "See this, little boy? You can't blame us for this! It is your 'saviors' who caused your injury!" He looks at the other children while pointing at Brynn. "THAT is your 'hero', children, the 'hero' SENT to rescue you all. See what the 'hero' had gotten your friend into? I want all of you to remember this well."

He was answered by the wailing and crying of the children. Nodding in satisfaction, Lucas shifted his attention at someone else.

Du'Kuli had leapt down from the trees and stood silently, waiting for the whispers to come to him on the soft breeze. Thunder rumbled lowly off in the distance, a slight spittle of rain danced softly as it fell from the darkening clouds. Yet still he waited and no wispy words passed his elvish ears. Why do they not speak to me....they have never done so before....

So he wondered off deeper in the forest, hoping to find some sort of sign.

Grehrak saw Brynn go into action, the dagger hit it's mark but the child was injured. He had to get to the children, but he wasn't sure if the guards would all come at him. He shrugged off his problems and charged in. Slashing down the guards as the got in his way. In all he took out three of them when he reached the front of the wagon.

"Hey, pansy ass why don't you come fight me instead of scarying children!" He figured if he could hold the caravan guards and Lucas at bay then maybe one of the others could get to the children. But Grehrak was to engaged in hs own fight to see the Dark Knights come out.

She noticed the blue skinned elf slip off into the woods, and she decided to follow. She readied an arrow, checked to make sure her small axe was securely attached to her belt, and crept off after Du'Kuli.

The caravan lurched forward on its broken wheel. The horses strained to budge the handicapped caravan, but slowly it began to move.

Occupied with a dark knight, Brynn noticed the movement of the slave wagon. "Someone help that child" he screamed, as he fought off the well trained knight.

Wart scurried out of the wagon as Lucas bellowed at him. The goblin, clad in black robes climbed to the seat of the wagon and took the reigns. Without waiting for further insults (although he was proud of the one his new master had just hurled at him) he kicked the wagon into gearing. The whole caravan began to move and the guards that weren't busy (most of the greenthumbs) trudged alongside it, trying to appear as if they, well, were guarding. Wart knew where they were headed and he knew he'd be safe with the dark knights.

Drucilla sees the caravan start to move. She start to chant a spell and in front of the wagon loud exploding lights go off scaring the horses. Instaed of moveing forward they start to rear back. The Goblin in the drivers sit is startled as well but that is only short lived. Still he has great difficulty gaining contral of the horses. As soon as Brynn could see again, he saw the half ogre approaching. It was pure luck that the dagger had hit his foe's weapon hand, he would have been grossly overpowered otherwise. They exchanged blows, then to Brynn's surprise, the half ogre took a few steps back. Suddenly Folken dropped to one knee, blood was apparant around his feet. Brynn smiled "This is one delivery you will not see to the end". He drew back his sword, ready to deliver the death blow, when all of a sudden he was blinded. Grit and dirt scratched his eyes. "Feh. You are pathetic." Lucas spits at Brynn. "Listening to your unimaginative, childish, asinine, unheroic one-liners was bad enough, you couldn't even fight a lousy half-ogre? "Huh?" Folken said in puzzlement, as he stood in the middle of the road, blinking in confusion. One moment he had been about to deliver the death blow to that cursed "hero" and then he had felt a sudden biting pain in his back, and everything had gone dark. Now he was standing here in the road again, seemingly only a few moments later, feeling distinctly queer. There was a sensation of weightlessness that he really didn't like.

Just then someone walked right through him.

THe half-ogre blinked.

"Huh?"

Then he noticed the bloody remains on the dirt ground, and everything clicked into place.

"Damn... I'm dead."

Then he thought about it a while longer.

"But why I am I still here?"

Because you were killed by the cursed blade Saviour's Bane, forged in the fires of Lords of Doom from star metal, many many centuries ago.

"Who said that?" Folken demanded, whirling around. And then he gulped as he saw the speaker.

He was dressed in armour crafted from silvered-obsidian, of a design unfamiliar to the half ogre. The exquisite detail and workmanship of it was surpased only by the tragically handsome face of the man who wore it. His face was unnaturally pale, there was an ethereal quality to it. As Folken watched, someone walked right through the man. So, it was a phantom, just like he was.

"Who are you, and why do you know so much about Lucas' sword?"

I am Schtolheim Erinius Reinbach, the ghost said by way of introduction, bowing gracefully. I was it's wielder before your employer came in possesion of it. In fact, I was the one who passed it on to him. Do you not remember? His voice radiated with inner anguish and torment, in keeping with haunted expression on his face.

A faint memory tugged at him. "I think I remember that now. We were passing someplace with a really strange name. I think the sign said: OOC: eswiftfire. You were standing by the road with a funny looking boy dressed like a mage..." He wondered how he could possibly have forgotten that encounter. "But why did you have to give it to HIM?" he pointed to Lucas, who was running after the caravan while cackling insanely.

I thought he was the prophecied one. But I may have been... mistaken.

"What!!! What do you mean you might have been mistaken?"

The signs and portents were... confusing and obscure.

"Never mind about the bloody signs and portents, what am I going to do about THIS?" The half ogre gestured at his ghostly self. "How long am I going to be... undead?"

As long as the wielder of Saviour's Bane continues to draw breath, you shall be doomed to wander Krynn in this form.

"NOO! That can't be-" Then Folken paused, thinking about what he'd just heard. "Wait, you mean to say if he croaks, I'll be free?"

You will no longer be bound to this mortal plane, yes.

"Heh heh heh." Folken grinned. "Then, I think I've got a caravan to catch."

He walks, or rather (since he's undead and a ghost), floats, after the caravan, right behind Lucas. Schtolheim looks on silently for a moment, and then he too begins to follow them.

OOC: For more information on Schtolheim, please read "the Great War" thread.

Most likely she would dodge it, and so he ran forward, sword low to the ground as his feet moved with the grace and speed of the wind. A whirlwind of death he would be to any enemy, but he would give her a chance to explain ....if she would not, he would end it.

"Uh oh..." Kendra muttered. It looked like this strange elf was more of a threat than she'd bargained for. Thinking quickly, she dodged the falling tree and leaped out of Du'Kuli's way. Even as she did so, she realized that there was no way her meager fighting skills would get her out of this one. She searched her brain for spells that might come in handy, and settled on a invisibility one. It was rather simple spell, but she prayed that the elf might just mistake it for a far more advanced teleporation spell.

IC: Kendra leapt from the tree as the lightning struck. She hit the ground with a sickening thud, and in the second before all went black, she felt deeply that she would not wake again in the world of the living.

They say that in the second before you die, your life flashes before your eyes. Obviously, Kendra passed out too quickly for this to happen. If it had, her life would have shown much of interest but little of real importance. Kendra was, above all else, a dabbler. Her skills as a mage were limited to illusions and simple attacks, and her fighting skills were equally scant, despite the fact that she was skilled with a wide range of weapons. She had been raised in a family of loyal clerics of Paladine, and though she had chosen not to follow the path of the faithful, she had a small number of healing spells at her disposal. In short, there were few things that Kendra couldn't do, but there was nothing that she truly excelled at.

OOC: Well, thats the short version, anyway.

Brynn rubbed his eyes, his vision was blurred, but at least he could see a little bit. The caravan had gone!, and the half ogre. Looking around he noticed the dwarf finishing off the last of the dark knights.

"Where are the others" he yelled to the dwarf, who was quite a ways down the road. "If we dont catch up with that caravan soon, it may be too late. Who knows where they are taking those children, besides, one took an arrow from that bastard half ogre, he'll need help, if he's still alive".

"He cannot see you..." Schtolheim said to the half-ogre, a genuinely sad tone in his voice. "Have you forgotten that we are ghosts? There is nothing you can do. He does not even know about your presence."

Then, he frowned, which made his handsome face even more handsome.

"As long as he carries the blade. We will suffer eternal torment."

"Phew! That was a close one." Lucas sighed in relief. "Though I would really enjoy cutting those nitwits into pieces, I won't be getting any profit without personally sending the children to our... buyers."

Then, he walked towards his group of prisoners. Although he was too busy scaring his opponents with his flashy swordfighting skills just now, he vaguely remembered that Folken had shot one of the boys with his crossbow.

The boy was already dead. Lying on the floor, on a puddle of blood. The boy's eyes and mouth were opened wide, he was screaming and whimpering the whole time before he died...

Lucas wrinkled his nose in disgust. Flies were already buzzing around it. One landed on the boy's open yet sightless eyes. The other attempted to crawl into his mouth.

Something snapped within Lucas suddenly.

"DAMN IT! I HATE THIS WHEN IT HAPPENS! I HATE IT! I HATE IT! I HATE IT! I HATE IT!" The caravan master shrieked hysterically, he lifted the corpse up with one hand. "I just lost five thousand steels! Damn you, brat! Dying on me like that!" He snarled.

Overcame with a white-hot fury, Lucas vented his anger and frustration on the dead boy. Slamming his head against the nearby table repeatedly. More blood splattered on the young caravan master.

"MY NEW CLOTHES!"

He flung the corpse towards the edge of the wagon. There was a sickening crunch. The sounds of bones breaking. The boy's head was reduced into a bloody mess.

There were sounds of children weeping, screaming in fear. Yet Lucas was oblivious to them now. He enjoyed it... he enjoyed staining himself with blood.

He laughed maniacally, moved forward and lifted the boy up again. He noticed that a pack of wolves were hidden in the forest, one of them howled...

"Bye bye." Lucas said with a grin as he tossed the boy off the caravan. The wolves were hungry, and they were telling HIM that they needed something to eat.

"Murderer!"

Lucas whirled around immediately, surprised by what he just heard. "Who said that?"

The children shrank away in fear. Well, most of them... except for a girl. Standing alone, glaring at him in defiance. There wasn't a hint of fear in her voice. She was probably eight or nine. Lucas wasn't sure, he was never good in guessing ages.

"What did you just say, little girl?" Lucas asked softly, inching closer towards the children, some were so scared that they had collapsed onto the floor, weeping loudly, a few others have wet their pants. But the girl didn't seem intimidated at all.

"I said that!" She replied. "You're a murderer!! You KILLED HIM!"

And then, Lucas did something VERY surprising.

He threw back his head and laugh.

"Oh? Is that so?" The caravan master said. "What's your name? How old are you?"

"Sasha, and I'm 8 years old."

"I see. Sasha... you are a very brave girl." He patted the girl's head, there was a warm smile on his face. "Very brave..."

The warm smile was quickly replaced by an insane one, the type of smile that threatened to tear apart his mouth muscles. "I HATE BRAVE GIRLS!!!!!!"

He gave Sasha a vicious backhand slap. The girl flew a few feet back and slammed onto a couple of other kids behind her. Lucas pulled out his sword.

"I'm going to slice you into pieces, little girl." The caravan master growled. "And after that, the kids here will have nothing to eat, but YOU."

Schtolheim stared helplessly at the scene before him, a look of pure sorrow crossed his handsome features. He silently hoped that the goblin would do something to stop this madman.

"Master," mumbled Wart, once again speeding up the caravan, "perhaps you shouldn't kill her. You might need the steel to replace your clothes."

"There is no way I'm going to let him stab me in the back and get away with it!" Folken growled. "Damnit, I should've poisoned him sooner!"

Then he paused for a moment, obviously confused. "What do you mean, as long as he carries the blade? I thought I had to kill him to be set free. Does that mean I just have to get the stupid sword away from him?"

BIC: Ashlynne raced on, Galahad's hooves pounded ceaselessly on the hardened earth...He lept over deadfall and small ravines...as fleet as a deer, as nimble as any unicorn.

Ashlynne rode low, her cheek resting on the stallion's neck, moving gracefully with his movements. She would send the hawk back to the group, so that she could lead them to her, as she followed the caravan.

in the moonlight, a glint of silver shone on Galahad's forhead, a tiny silver horn poked free from his silver-grey mane. A decendent of the unicorn, bred between psycically intelligent horses, and the unicorn, Galahad was bred down five generations of such creatures...his dam was half unicorn, half psy mare.....his sire was full psy stallion....the silver horn on his head was all that remained of his unicorn heritage, that and the uncanny speed and nimbleness that no horse could ever possess.

Galahad wickered, and sent Ashlynne a mental picture of the hawk, Innana. Ashlynne nodded and looked up, the hawk flew high above them, her wings spread to catch all the thermals she could. the Hawk was as intelligent as the stallion, and Ashlynne sent the raptor a mental picture of Brynn, with a firm command to go. The Hawk screeched and dived, wheeled, and flew back in the direction she came, returning to the group.

Then, he moved a few steps away, took out a hankerchief and wiped his hand. No way he was going to dirty his beautiful hand for something like this.

"What are we going to do? Kidnap more kids, of course. We need the money. Anyway, feed them now," Lucas gestured at the prisoners. "I don't want all of them starved to death before we reach Neraka. Kendra ran up to Lucas. "I'm back, and I don't think I've been followed. And before you ask, I didn't manage to kill the blue skinned elf. Hell, I barely got away with my life. He's a magic user as well as a fighter, it would seem." She jumped up on the caravan nect to Lucas, and glared at him, challenging him to say anything.

Kendra had worked with Lucas, more or less, for almost a year now. She'd originally been among a group of kidnapped children (although she was almost 18 now, she looked much younger, partly as a result of her mixed elven/kender/human heritage.) She had escaped using her lockpicking skills, and impressed Lucas throughly with a combination of clerical and arcane spells. He had agreed to take her on as an assistant for a time. Kendra saw some good money in it, and as long she kept her wits about her, she was as safe with these people as anywhere else on Krynn.*Shut up, brain, or I'll stab you with a Q-Tip!* :D:D:D:D:D:D

"No one's following us? Fine then. You go help the goblin feed the kids." Lucas said before he walked away.

Kendra, Wart and the now-deceased Folken were the only people he kept around with him for more than six months. Despite the fact that he was reeking of coolness, Lucas was still smart enough to know that he needed people to help him. He wasn't invincible, he can't do everything by himself...

Or rather, he wouldn't want to do all those dirty works by himself.

This girl, Kendra, had always thought that she impressed him with her lockpicking skills, and her combination of clerical and arcane skills. But the fact was... well, she was too old to be a slave. (fortunately, he discovered her true age before it was too late) To give his clients an overaged umm.. child slave would be embarassing, but letting her go would be against his principles... so, to keep his reputation intact, he decided to let her tag along and do his dirty works for him too.

After all, everyone knew that no one had ever escaped from the Caravan of Death alive. (Lucas' predecessor screwed up a couple of times though... but that is another story. Hmph!)

He smiled inwardly. Heh... they ARE following us. Let them come. This time, I'm going to feed you, Savior's Bane. If they dare come near, I will feed you. Bwahahahahahahahahahahaahahaha!!! "Where is that blasted caravan" Gartag said to himself. He had sent off a squadron of Dark Knights ages ago, none had returned.

The ships captain put his hand to his forehead to shield the sun and looked in the direction of the woods, nothing. He was beginning to get anxious, dry land always did that to him, for he was more at home on the open water.

Everything on the boat was in order, rooms had been made up for the Caravan master and his crew. Lucas was to be transferred to the lands surrounding Neraka, his immaculate record had earned him this highly coveted (and well paying) assignment. A new caravan master would be sent as his replacement.......

Brynn heard the birds cry, "quickly" he said to the dwarf, who was beginning to slow. As he turned around to look for the dwarf he noticed what he feared most. His heart sank and he dropped to both knees. Lying a short distance from the road was the battered and bloody body of a young boy, an arrow still protruding from his chest.

Folken watched in outrage as Kendra sat at HIS spot. He wasn't even an HOUR dead and already she was trying to take over his place!!! But then again... she was a crafty one, and maybe she wouldn't just be content to replace him. He'd broached the subject to her once or twice, dropping a few subtle hints now and then about how Lucas was taking the lion's share of the profit, and how HE would have been more fair in its distribution, but the woman had always feigned ignorance. Now however, he hoped that recent events would force her to act.

Brynn looked at Grehrak, then back the boy, his body torn and tattered from the wolves savage bites. "We'll have to take him with us, we cant just leave him here". Standing up, Brynn walked over to where the boy lay, he bent down and heaved the childs body onto his shoulder. "come on, let's get going", he knew catching the wagon would be even more difficult now that they were carrying extra weight.......

Gartag was beginning to worry, when suddenly the caravan emerged from the woods. Noticing the broken wheel, he knew immediately that something was wrong. Calling to the few knights that remained in his company, he started off through the high street of the small fishing village. "We must get that wagon and it's cargo to the ship", he cried to the knights that followed him.

He jumped out and confronted the women, reaching his hand forward to shock her, just enough to knock her out.

Kendra saw Schtolheim's glance, and fidgeted nervously. She might have a bit of clerical powers, but this seemed like way more than she could handle.

She stood up proudly. "It would seem you need a cleric. Well, I have extensive training in that realm, and..." she launched off into a several minute speech on her accomplishments, leaving the others yawning. She finished up by saying, "I know where there may be clerics who can help with this, err, situation. My family dwells a little outside of Solanthus, along with a community of other clerics. All of Paladine, Mishakal, Majere...." she trailed off, realizing that the current company might have some trouble baragining with clerics of good. "But I'm sure we can find a way to convince them to help." She added encouragingly, and smiled with what she thought was her most charming, convincing grin.

Of course, Kendra neglected to mention that she'd run away from her family several years back, and due to the circumstances of that incident, they just might be a little less than welcoming towards her. Folken blinkblinked in that cute way that you only see on Saturday morning Anime programs featuring magical girls in funny costumes or strange monster thingies that appear out of red and white balls as Kendra turned her heard and looked him right in the eyes, literally. It was so disconcerting that Folken backed away immediately.

She can hear me but not see me?

Then, he had a plan...

"Kendra..." he moaned in his most horrifying voice, which, coincidentally, was pretty horrifying, since he was suffering from laryngitis from all that shouting he'd been doing. Funny, he hadn't known that ghosts COULD suffer from laryngitis. Heh. The things you know when you're dead.

"Kendra... I was murdered brutally by our brutal Boss when he was in one of his brutal fits of rage that was brought on when I brutally stepped on a trophy of his that he brutally acquired during a brutal situation in a brutal manner using brutal methods. It was brutally brutal." he paused for breath before continuing.

"Know this. I have picked you to avenge my brutal death at the hands of our brutal Boss. You shall brutally murder him in a most brutal fashion to exact brutal retribution for my brutal death, for I a have cast a brutal curse upon you, and should you fail to do so, the brutal warrior you see before you." Folken gestured to Schtolheim (out of habit, since after all, she only seemed to be able to see Schtolheim and not him), "shall inflict a brutal punishment. Which I assure you that you will find most brutal."I'm tired about all this nonsense about beauty being only skin-deep. That's deep enough. What do you want -an adorable pancreas?

Kendra heard the voice in her head, and did a back flip right off the edge of the caravan. She lay on the ground in a poof of dust, listening to the rest of Folken's speech. Brutally murder Lucas, eh? She had to admit that the idea had some merits. She was sick of hanging around this moving coffin, and she knew better than to thinkt hat Lucas would let her leave anytime soon. For all her bluster about impressing Lucas with her magic, she had a sinking feeling she was stuck here because "No one leaves the Caravan of Death alive!" (With the obligatory "mwahahaha" at the end. All of which was printed in red letters across the back of the caravan.)

She sat up, dusted herself off, and contemplated taking a mace to Lucas's skull. *Shut up, brain, or I'll stab you with a Q-Tip!* :D:D:D:D:D:D

She stomped again, and the monster grabbed her ankle and twisted it, making her fall. The half-ogre rolled on top of her and began choking her. Schtolheim smiled as the woman picked up a dagger and stabbed the half-ogre in the chest with it. He screamed an obscenity at her and knocked the dagger away.
Her knees smacked the half-ogre in the flank. He sat up, grabbed her throat in one hand and raised his other in a fist. He never got to hit her, for the woman's knee jabbed his groin. "You could get an even bigger cut of the loot if you whack Lucas and take his share." Folken whispered conspiratorially in Kendra's ear.

OOC: Thorn, are you siding with Lucas or are you with us? Better hurry up and decide now while he's still away on vacation so we can think of eveeeel ways to kill him behind his back. Heh heh.

And Flan, I'm not sure about being one of the bad guys, you mean joining as a Dark Knight? Cause' all we have here in the Caravan other than Kendra and Lucas are greenhorns.

Oh, and Schuey, nice to see you back, and NO!!!! DON'T drop this thread. It can still continue. At the very least play the Dark Knights so we can finish the negotiation bit. Gartag was out of breath when he reached the caravan, "What in the Abyss have you lot been doing, and how did this happen?" he gasped, looking at the shattered wheel.

Lucas stepped out. His dark cloak billowing behind him in a very cool manner.

"Feh." The handsome caravan master sneered. "Some dumbass goody two shoes mage did that. Got rid of her and the rest of her heroic companions. Thanks to my ex-lieutenant, Folken... may Takhisis have mercy on his dark, scheming, twisted, manipulative, cruel, vindictive soul." For a moment, there was a look of genuine anguish on his face. Or perhaps, it was because there was a pebble lodged in his beautiful, exquisite left leather boot.

"Ahem... where was I? Ah yes... SHOW ME THE MONEY!" Lucas sang.

Eliar spat in rage and clapped his hands twice, ten male dwarves in pink dresses pop out from the floorboards and dance a graceful ballet.

You will recieve payment when this cargo is delivered to the ship. Once the cargo is safely on board you will recieve your new orders. If you choose to take them, you will sail with us to the surrounding lands of Nereka. If you choose not to accept, your career as Caravan Master will cease to exist.

The dark knights have taken from this land for too long, the effort is beginning to outweigh the reward. Because of that we are focusing our resources in other parts of the continent. "Come, we have little time to waste, I must sail within the hour, whether you join me or not".

"Feh." Lucas feh'd. He drew Savior's Bane and sliced the knight into half, laughing maniacally. "NOBODY TELLS ME WHAT TO DO! NOBODY!!! BWAHAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAHAHAH!"

Then, he grabs the reins from Wart and drives the lead wagon over the knight's corpse.

"That does it! We're going to sell these kids to the minotaurs instead! Those who are into bestiality! Mwa ha!"

OOC: Umm..Schuey, i'm assuming that I can kill this knight, since your real character's Brynn... right?

"arrggghhh", Gartag gurgled, as Saviours Bane sliced him in two, his torso tumbled into a nearby ditch.

The two other Dark Knights looked at the Caravan Master in amazement, then at each other. They drew their swords, although they knew their fate was already sealed. They had heard tales of the legendary blade. How this caravan master had come to posses it was a mystery to them, regardless, they trembled.

The first knight charged Lucus, his blade swung at shoulder height, with the intent of severing head from body.

The second knight stood back for a moment, then he slowly began to circle the other two, looking for his opportunity to sneak in a stabbing blow.

Immediately, he turned to the other knight. "Oh? You thinking of giving me a cheap shot eh? I HATE HATE HATE HATE SNEAKY COWARDLY BASTARDS LIKE YOU!!!" He gave a high-pitch, ear-piercing shriek and then hacked off the knight's hands, then he hacked off the knight's legs. Finally he cut off the knight's head.

"Would you rather have him fried? Roasted? Or stewed in a pot of boiling water?" Lucas asked Wart. Eliar spat in rage and clapped his hands twice, ten male dwarves in pink dresses pop out from the floorboards and dance a graceful ballet.

Wart was going to be sick. He didn't eat humans. "Whatever way you want me to eat them master," the goblin mumbled, trying to keep his breakfast down. The kids all looked up, they were starving, one of them even muttered "Braiiins".

Brynn had been abandoned. He laid the body of the child in the woods and started after the caravan. "Blasted companions" he muttered, "maybe if I catch up with them I can get in on some of the action"?

He ran as fast as he could until he saw the Caravan Master finishing off the last of the Dark knights. "Hey, what do you say we sell this little buggers, steal their ship, and wreak havoc on the high seas?" he shouted.

Then, he turns to Kendra and Wart. "Say hello to our new comrade, my dears! It's time for us to resume our journey!"

Saying that, he points dramatically at the sunset.

Clambering aboard the Caravan, Brynn felt instantly at home. The cool afternoon breeze blew through his hair, and the sun caused him to squint. The faint sound of those gone unrescued had no effect on him. In fact, if there had been a whip around, he would have taught the little blighters a lesson.

He thought about his new friends, and the riches they would come across on their travels. Where would they go from here?

Schtolheim and Folken stared in disbelief at the events unfolding before them.

"He's joining up with them???? NOOOOOOOOO!!!!" Folken howled. "Now we're going to be stuck here for all eternity!!!"

"Fear not." Gertag, leader of the Dark Knights said, "surely a freak landslide or some such incident shall befall the wretch before the day is out. Her Dark Majesty is not one to suffer the deaths of her servants lightly."

Just then a ghostly minion from the Abyss appears in a flash of unholy flames (no one but the dead ghosts see this). "I'm sorry, but I'm afraid that won't happen." The spectre said in a prissy voice.

"What? Why?" Getag demanded furiously.

"Because you haven't paid your Divine Intervention bill." The spectre said, passing a rolled up parchment to the dead knight's ghost. Unrolling it, Gertag saw that it apperaed to be a list of some sort with acolumn of figures running down one side and a total at the very bottom. It had a lot of zeroes.

"WTF is this?"

"That's the bill for the miracles the Dark Queen has performed to save your sorry ass. And which you haven't paid up yet. Which means no freak landslide for you, chump." The spectre thumbs his nose at the ghostly lot and disappears in another flash of hellfire.

Schtolheim sighed in a dramatic and angsty manner, his handsome face reflecting his deep inner sorrow at the knight's quandary. "I belive our only recourse is to follow the caravan then."

OOC: Hey, I know Gertag isn't mine, but Schuey didn't write anything for him, so I did. If it's not okay with ya, just say the word, and I'll edit my post.

BTW, is Flandrake gonna post? I can't think of anyone else who might want to write their farewell lines besides him. So if he isn't, we might as well end this.
