His grandfather had been a rather small man, for his age anyway, but it suited Anvi fine, who at the age of 17, was roughly the same height as his departed grandfather had been. Yes departed. The thought often brought a sad smile to Anvi’s face, for he had been terribly fond of his grandfather. The old man had been 73 when he died, a good age for a man now a days. He had also been a mage of the White Robes, so needless to say, Anvi followed in his footsteps. He was just packing his primar when a loud knock sounded at the door. Anvi thought this strange, rarely did anyone visit this early in the morning, not in Solace.

Opening it just a crack, it was Mrs Mulprim from next door. She owned a food store not too far away. “Mrs Mulprim? Can I help you? Is there something worng?”, she waved a hand and pushed the door open, brushing passed him, “Please…do come in.”. He muttered under his breath. “No nothing wrong, but I am worried, about you I mean.”, he looked her with a puzzled expression. “Why is that? I’m fine.”, he crossed his arms, putting his hands into the folds of his white sleeves. He wore a white robe, a gift from his grandfather, the smell of lavender and smoked woodbine hung heavily on them.

“Well, ever since your dear grandfather died, the departed gods bless his soul, you have been somewhat isolated. You never visit me anymore like you did with your grandfather, you don’t go to the dances like you did when he was around, and you never…”, he cut her off. “Please Mrs Mulprim, I truly am fine. I have my studies to occupy my time for the present, and if you please, I must get off to school.”

“Yes…your studies….”, she never truly liked the fact that he was a practioner of magic, and his grandfather a mage, but she never made reference to it. “Well…in any case….you are always most welcome to drop by if you have need of anything….you hear?”, The woman had a good heart, “Yes I hear you and I will if need be…now please I must be going….”

She said her farewell and left. Finished packing his Primar and other books, he headed for school. It wasn’t far, he was a brisk walker, it usually took about 20 minutes to reach.

His teacher was a red robed wizardess. A competent one, but one who would never really amount to anything. The previous Master, Theobald he had heard his name was, was rumoured to have been much the same. But he had retired, and the position was left vacant. Anvi had moved from Palanthas. His grandfather had retired as a member of the conclave and decided to move somewhere peaceful from the huffle and bustle of a city life. Solace was exactly what he wanted. As soon as he had arrived in Solace, Anvi enrolled in the school. To his surprise, he was most likely, not wanting to be boastful, the most talented pupil there. The other students where by the by…..not really caring. But he got on with his studies. Life was easy, until his grandfather died. Anvi had lost his parents when younger, and so his grandfather looked after him. Became his family. They only really needed each others company…plus Anvi was always taught a little extra from what he had learned at school by the white robed grandfather….and by himself even more.

Like many mages, he was ambitious. Wanted the arcane knowledge to be his. Though 17, he could cast minor spells and cantrips, nothing too fancy, but more than other students his age. It went without saying though that the spells drained him severely. He kept this hidden from his grandfather, but felt guilt ridden having done so when he had died. Nothing could be done about it though. His grandpa was dead and he was alive. He sighed as he entered the building, the smells of ink and parchment wafted passed him.

He got to work…..reciting arcane symbols and writing them down. Researching and studying all day. He liked his life. His grandfather had paid for his tuition well in advanced, and had left Anvi plenty of money to feed and clothe himself until he could start earning for himself. After school, he returned home. Ate a light meal and again began to study. His own primar and that of his grandfathers. The old man had kept it….giving it to Anvi while on his death bed….saying that he should learn it….that even in death…he would teach him the arcane. Through racking sobs and blinded by tears….he took it, coveted it closely.

He heard other children playing….outside in the waning sunlight. Children his own age roughly, goblin ball by the sound of it. He went to the window and looked out……

OOC: Ok heres the deal people. This is set just as the war of the lance is about to break out. I would appreciate it if you try to keep your characters under the age of 21.....just for thread's sake. This will be something like soulforge....a young and aspiring magus, his freinds etc. Any questions just ask away.

The group of children playing goblin ball ran shrieking through the village, drawing stern looks from the adults. One of them shouted, "Here, Layna, catch!" and tossed the makeshift ball in the direction of a tall girl with dark, spiky hair cropped to shoulder length. She reached out and grabbed the ball, then tossed it half-heartedly in the direction of a smaller boy. She slowed to a jog and lagged behind the rest of the group.

At 16, Layna felt rather old to be playing goblin ball in the streets of Solace. She dreamed of doing more with her life than taking over her father's small bakery. Layna Taveril, the baker's daughter. She yawned at the thought. She dreamed of being Layna Darksword, famed Knight of Solamnia, vanquishing foes and taming dragons. Never mind that the Knights of Solamnia were now nothing more than an association of poverty stricken bandits, and dragons were the stuff of children's nightmares. She could still dream.

She turned down one of the side streets, following the group of children at a light jog. She stared up at the cottages in the trees, then stopped, seeing someone looking down at her. It's Anvi She thought to herself. The young mage in training wasn't nexcessarily on of the regulars among the children who played in the streets of Solace, but he seemed nice enough. Of course, he must spend his time studying and memorizing. He's going to be a mage, powerful and famous. He's not going to be stuck in this town forever, like me. She drifted back into her musings, imagining glorious battles on dragonback. She walked slowly down the street, kicking the dirt as she went. “We pity him. We hate him. We fear him – all because there is a little of him in each of us, though we admit it to ourselves only in the darkest part of the night.”

After splitting the last few logs of a fallen elm tree, Ashlyn bid his father farewell and raced back to town. He knew the others would be in the middle of goblin ball, and today he was going to be back in time to play.

As he raced through the streets he spotted a lone figure, dragging her feet and looking generally miserable. He slowed his pace and kept to the shadows, nearing the young girl with every step. He snickered at the thought of the suprise that lay ahead. Suddenly he leapt out of the shadows, made a loud "Boo" noise, and jumped around joyfully, as if this was the greatest trick ever played.

"What are you doing skulking around these back streets for, Layna" he said.

A young woman, 16 years old, walked into teh school room. " Sorry, i am late." she sat down next to Anvi and started to copy down symbols and such. " Can you hand me a quill?" she didn't look up from her work, outstreching her hand towards Anvi. " Please?" she looked up at Anvi. She had purple eyes and light brown hair. " Oh, by the way, I am Holly."

Laconfir stood in the shade offered by a tall barn, watching the group playing Goblin Ball nearby to the house of the young Mage, as per usual he stood alone. His otherworldly heritage showed through clearly enough to mark him out, but gave him none of the powers that some others of his kind enjoyed.

He shrank slightly into the shadows as Mrs Mulprim passed him, makeing a sign against the evil eye and muttering something about "devil child" as she did. The old bag had never liked him, not since midwife Hurney had fainted out of the window into Mulprim's vegitable patch upon witnessing the newborn Tiefling's disquitening visage.

Returning to the present day, Laconfir saw Ashlyn creeping up on someone, playing one of his pranks no doubt. Ashlyn was one of the few children who didn't seem to mind Laconfir and seldom mocked him fo his heritage, of course, neither did Anvi, but that probably had more to do with his greater understanding of Laconfir's heritage. The Tiefling moved out of the shadows and headed over to Ashlyn, who was that one with him? Ah yes, Layna, Laconfir had never really met her, but she didn't throw abuse at him, so that was a start.

OOC; Basicaly, Laconfir's face looks like he has had strips of skin peeled off, these form short tiger-stripes all over his body. There are small 'horns' protruding backwards from his elbows and they crop up in a few other places, like his shoulders. He has fangs (think the vamps in buffy) and slanted eyes. He is quite nimble and fast, but has no particular powers apart from the ability to see in total darkness and an enhanced sense of smell. Hope there isn't a problem with a Tiefling in this thread, but he does make for an.......interesting companion for a trainee mage, particulaly if he gets any of his more exotic abilities, though this will not happen for quite a while, if ever."Ah, they have a cave troll....."

OOC: Princess.....Anvi is at home now....school had finished.....but we can pretend that it happened. Maugetar your char is fine and so are the other characters. Juat glad that people joined in.

IC: He moved from the window....a twang of envy pierced his mind....he had often wished he could be outside with others of his age....while his body was not built for demanding sports.....a bit of goblin ball would have proved entertaining if somewhat tiring. But his committment was to his magic, and his grandfather. He wouldn't disappoint him. Til the heart's blood boils or the bones be ash,

Other eyes watched the game of goblin ball.
"Why can't they except me!? I'm just an elf! It's not like I'm going to bite their heads off!" Adian told herself, keeping away from the game and watching. She really wanted to play. She was older than them, 39 in elven years, but that put in at almost the age of 16 in human years with the same problems as teenagers. She was almost exactly like them, except her almond purple eyes, long fine brown hair, and those damn pointed ears! But, sadly, it was her own fault she ran away from the Silvanesti, and she blamed herself for not being accepted. So she sat watching everyone play, and watching the Magic School with interest.

Anvi sat in his grandfathers favourite chair....he had brought it from Palanthas when they moved. He leafed through his primar, memorising and re-reading the words, making them his. He noted the components needed, if any, and the effects of his simple spells. He had been fairly chuffed with himself. He had learned a new one only two days prior, an offensive one.....ok it was a small offensive spell.....but he was proud of it.

He needed to practice it....he had memorised the words and hand gestures, but he still didn't know if it would work. He would need to be alone and outside of the town to work it in secret....he couldn't let anyone see him.....most of any one from school.

Slipping on a woolen clock, again his grandfathers.....he walked outside. The dying sunlight glinted off his impossibly green eyes and dark, almost black hair. Briskly walking down the stairs, his white hem of the robe skirting the wooden walk way.

He passed the children playing goblin ball. Ignoring their shouts....a few taunts about wearing a dress.....but he made note of who shouted the abuse...for later reference. The leaves rustled about his hem and feet. He headed for the woods next to Crystalmiar Lake...it would be deserted by now. Til the heart's blood boils or the bones be ash,

OOC: Glad to be involved, great intro.

IC: Ashlyn was still leaping about when he noticed Laconfir approaching. Although some of the other kids didnt like Laconfir, Ashlyn found him most interesting. They had become friends quite recently and Ashlyn was trying his best to pass on some of his more mischievous attributes. A few days earlier they had found an abnormally large toad (which somehow managed to find it's way into Mrs. Mulprim's kitchen). They had both laughed when they heard her screaming.

Ashlyn walked over and clapped his friend on the shoulder "Come and say hello to Layna, her dad's the local baker, you know!"

OOC: Thanks, that was directed at me yeah?....lol

IC: Aniv reached the lake at little later than he had expected...a small group of wild growing mushrooms had caught his attention....they were rather rare to be growing in these parts, so he colleceted as much as his puches could carry, making a mental note to remember the spot and collect more later.

Anyway, the lake. It was beautiful. The water still and serene, sparkling a molten silver as the low sun shed its last rays across it. He took out his primar....read the words again and prepared to cast his spell.....but then he stopped.

One of his pouches held something else.....something a little more valuable....a small scroll....he took it out....the words written on it had be a challenge, still were.....but a cleverly placed question here and there towards his teacher had given him enough confidence to think he has sussed it out. He had been rather proud of it.

The spell on it was simple enough....he still wasn't sure what it could do...not entirely, but it was a summoning spell of sorts....a incredibly simple one by the looks of it had been Anvi's first thoughts.

Why not? No ones around, it couldn't do any harm....

Further unrolling the scroll, he read over the words carefully, preparing to chant.

"Come and say hello to Layna, her dad's the local baker, you know!"

Laconfir greeted Layna, careful not to show his menacing fangs too much, and made a snide comment about frogs that sent Ashlyn into hysterics. Laconfir was about to speak to Layna, but was stopped by the high pitched, piercing noise that was humming inside his head. The noise got louder as the Tiefling fell to his knees, clutching his head. Then the shreiking noise was everything, accompanied by searing whiteness, numbing cold and a pain like a thousand upon a thousand nails pirecing every nerve. Then he dropped out of the air and landed arkwadly on his feet in front of Anvi in the clearing, he could hear the sounds of the Goblin-ball players nearby, and Ashlyn's confused calling. Laconfir summoned the strength to reply, yelling out,

"In the clearing, by the lake."

Laconfir's voice had an odd carrying quality, Ashlyn had heard, the Tiefling was sure of it. He tunred back to Anvi,

"That, I take it, was an experiment?""Ah, they have a cave troll....."

Adian sat in the trees around the clearing, watching Laconfir land and giggling to herself. She had followed Anvi to the clearing when she say him pass the goblin ball game. Nothing was more exciting to her than following magic-users and seeing what they do. She was a dabbler, a few spells up her sleeve, and only those that she needed for either protection or easy living. But watching was more fun the studying, so she followed Anvi so see what he would do. She smiled.
"Well, Anvi, whatever that spell was supposed to do, it was good."
Adian had a sudden urge to go and talk to those in the clearing. Maybe she would be accepted by them...

"Yes.....one gone wrong.....", he sagged to the ground....utterly exhausted. Though simple, it was a spell that should have been out of his reach, he wasn't used to the demand placed on him by it. He looked at what he had summoned.....Laconfir....Anvi had been interested in him from the first day he had seen him, though they knew each other, they never spoke.

He tried to stand up.....he was shaking with rage and humiliation....he grew dizzy.....the spell had exacted a little to much of him. Til the heart's blood boils or the bones be ash,

Anvi balked. "Holly!", he hoped she hadn't seen him cast the spell...such shoudl have been above his level of casting, he may be cast out from the school, or reprimanded by the conclave, stopped from learning magic....but he never would....if he had to he would turn renegade.....he wasn't sure what a renegade wizard was....his grandfather spoke of them with the up most displeasure, so he guessed they were a bad thing.

"What are you doing here?", he noticed more followers.....sighed and mumbled under his breath. "I should make my goings more secret from now on....."

Eventually he had the strength to stand up....akwardly he said..."I eh...had a bad fall....", he looked at Laconfir with pleading eyes to along with the story....plus he didn't want it known he had made a bummer of his latest spell.....

Suddenly there was a commotion....men rushed about nearby through the forest....they had swords, wore armour. He could hear someone shout....'Theocrat'.....Anvi's attention was immeadiatly captured. He went off and search for the source of the voice.

Layna jumped and shrieked in response to Ashlyn's joke, then scowled at him. "That was a very lame joke, you know." She told him sternly. She turned around to see Laconfir coming towards them. She'd seen him before, but never actually spoken to him. The tiefling seemed like another person who might have an exciting future, so she was intrigued by him. Then she heard Ashlyn refer to her as "the baker's daughter." She turned to him and slapped him. "That's Layna Darksword to you, Ashlyn," well aware of the snickers this would bring. No matter, she didn't really care. She just couldn't think of a better answer. She was startled out of her anger by Laconfir's struggles. When the tiefling disappeared, she she began jumping up and down. "What was that?" she exclaimed. "C'mon Ashlyn, we'd better go investigate." She ran off down the street, quite forgetting she had no idea where she was going. “We pity him. We hate him. Layna was well down the street before she remembered the tiefling's words. "In the clearing, by the lake." She stopped for a moment, and thought. Then she turned around and started running in the opposite direction towards Crystalmir Lake. She did her best to ignore Ashlyn's amused grin. He never seemed to get tired of making fun of her. But he was a good enough friend and she was pretty sure he would follow her towards the lake.

Layna ran quickly, excited by the possibility of something magical happening in her life. She wished she had time to run home and get her crossbow. It was the only real weapon she owned, besides the wooden practice sword she'd inherited from her brother. O well, it wasn't as if she'd actually need weapons. She made her way through the woods, stumbling into the clearing excitedly.

She glanced around, then noticed two figures further into the woods. One appeared to be Anvi, although she couldn't quite make out either shape in the dim light. They seemed to be hiding or sneaking up on something. She crouched low to ther ground near the edge of the clearing and watched.“We pity him. We hate him. "Theocrat.....Theocrat.", a man turned around. "Yes what is it....i haven't got all day....", the man was out of breath. He approached the Theocrat of the seekers and whispered in his ear...."Really?, well take me to him.", the two men wondered off.....

The Theocrat was new in town.....a member of an order situated in haven.....something about being seekers of the true gods.....he was practically running the town now. This....Anvi hadn't liked. He moved away from the trees and wondered back into the clearing.....

"Strange....very strange.....i wonder who he is meeting? Hmm. Oh well.....", he looked around....somewhat sheepishly. "I had best get going....i need to take care of a few things....i'll see you at school tomorrow Holly."

Layna watched as Anvi walked back into the clearing, muttering to himself about something. She stood up slowly, but Anvi apparently didn't notice her, lost in his own thoughts. She considered running after him, then though better of it. Anvi seemed like a good sort, but he was usually quiet and reserved. He wouldn't want to be bothered. Ashlyn had hardly a moment to fully take in the hilarity of Layna's comment before Laconfir's dissapearance. Layna had lept into the air a few times, run off towards the lake, leaving Ashlyn to try and keep up. Arriving at the lake they split up. Ashlyn raced over to see if Laconfir was feeling alright.

"What was that all about" he asked, a smile forming on his lips. "Is there anyway you can show me how to do that?". I mean, it was fantastic, the way you yelled and squeeled, then just dissapeared.

making sure his friend was alright, he took the liberty to peruse his surroundings. He saw Layna a little ways away talking with Holly. Anvi was walking back towards town, seemingly put off by something. He walked over to Layna and Holly, he coughed "ummm....girls, whats the matter with Anvi?"

He hadn't noticed where he was when a small boy pushed passed him. Heeyed him coldly for disturbing his thoughts, but the little kid hadn't been looking, he ran off behind his mothers skirts.....

Anvi continued up the wooden stairs, out of breath almost as he neared the top. Darkness had ensued. The moons, the ones he coud see, peaked over the horizon. Anvi wandered to the Inn of the Last Home. He hadn't a great idea of why but he did......opening the door, the smell of spiced potatoes filled his senses. Smoke and heat filled the atmosphere.

Something strange was happening though. He had noticed the odd assortment of people, a few of them, sitting together. A half elf by the looks of it, a dwarf by no means, a kender, a man....quite a big man....and a .....by the gods....a wizard....in red robes. He clutched a wooden staff, topped with a diamond that glinted in the fire light. But something else ws odd. The wizards skin seemed to have a golden hue about it. Metallic. And his eyes. He only caught a glimpse for he had his hood drawn up...shroaded in darkness. Golden eyes. This guy must have been a very interesting mage. He just wished that there ws someway he could talk with him, maybe learn a couple of tricks...

To his ultimate surprise, the mage looked at him. Firstly Anvi thought he looked passed him, but no, directly at him. His blood stirred. The red mage regarded him for a few moments then turned his gaze elsewhere, leaving Anvi's blood to only simmer.

He was giddy....some seemingly powerful mage had noticed him. He wanted more, but didn't get his chance. A barbrian woman had begun to sing. Anvi was lost. She was beautiful, haunting, serene, yet filled with a loss of ages. He clutched a staff of wood, a man sitting at her side. She sang of the old gods, spurred on by an old man sitting near the fire telling children stories of dragons and the such like.

But the Theocrat was there. He interupted the song....deeming it blasphemy and heresy. The next scene had been confusing. The Theocrat caught fire. The kender thumped him with the staff the golden haired woman had held....but it had turned blue of all things. It snuffed the flames out. At this point a near riot had ensued. Poeple shouting and calling for the town gaurds. Otik grabbed him. "You had best be off young'in. This may get rough.", he walked away, trying to stop fights and move broken tables. Anvi left. The town guard, and other strange looking men thundered in. He slipped out and hurried along the walk way. He heard voices. Looked over the edge to see the red mage floating down. His mounth dropped as he stared in awe. The others climbed down a rope. They scampered off as soon as they touched the ground.

He couldn't believe his eyes. Such magic. He was giddy, but aware of the danger. He headed for home. This was so exciting though. He had to tell the others.

Alirianah frowned, she was going to head to the Inn, but changed her mind as she saw several men heading her way...one, noticing she was a stranger, and an Elf, headed for her...

"Who are you!? What are you doing here!?" the human snarled, his hand gripping her wrist painfully. "Who am I? Just who do you think you are?" she shouted, struggling. She caught sight of white robes, her eyes following the man's movements with interest.

Abruptly, she screamed as the Guard clenched his hand about her wrist. "Fool! You'll pay for this!" she hissed, as he reached for her other hand...keeping her away from her spell componants, her staff falling to the ground, usless without her touch. She hissed in pain as he twisted her arm behind her. she moved as much as she could, the heel of her foot coming down against his shin.

The Guard hissed in pain and only twisted her arm tighter. He raised his hand and Struck her against the back of the head, and she slumpted forward without another sound.

Anvi heard the shrill scream. Noticed the man striking the woman, such attitudes angered Anvi who had a deep and abiding respect for woman. He stopped on his present route and started for the man.

"What do you think you are doing sir....striking a woman as such....have you no....", he was cut off, noticing she was an elf....his gaze wondered to the pouches around her waist, the smell of spell components drifted his way, the staff lying next to her. She was a mage, young seemingly but a mage none the less. This added to the blazing fires forging in him.

"Step away from her sir least you befall harm.", his voice was stern, cold and detached. "What ya gonna do? What you supposed to be...a wizard.....like dressing up in yer mama's skirts do ya.....like pretending to play games with magic.....well son, beat it before i knock you over the side."

The man's attention reverted back to the elf woman. Anvi shook with rage....never had anyone spoke such to him....made a mockery of him, slandered his calling.....disbelieved his power. The fire consumed his vison, all he saw was the man, glouting over his fallen prize. The anger passed that of a childish tantrum. This was rage, unadulterated hate and anger.

"You shall regret having said that sir....now leave her alone!". the words cut the mans attention, whose brow puckered as he regarded the little whelp. "I'll give you once last chance little boy...run back to mama....its passed your bedtime....", but in saying this the man withdrew a sword, bloodstained.

"My mother is dead!!", his cry resonated through the vallenwoods, as he raised his hands. Spreading his fingers, the words of his latest spell slipped like quick silver from his mouth. Before the assialant could respond, the fingertips of Anvi's hands, glowed a soft blackish purple. The light formed a blade sharp dart protruding from the fingertips. With a shreik of rage, he let the magic loose, as the darts sprung like striking vipers and sunk into the mans chest. One piercing his neck. He spluttered, blood frothing at the side. Stumbling forward, Anvi kicked him, sending him crashing to the leaf littered ground.

He sank to the wooden walk way, sobbing, it was the first time he had taken a life. He never thought he would or could do it. The name calling and slander had been enough, threatening to end this mage womans life topped it. Calling him a little boy, pushed him over the edge, or was it the mention of his mother.

Still shaking, he stood up and crept over to the still woman. By the looks of her, she was a black robe. Anvi had met only one other black robe, in palanthas, a mage visiting his grandfatehr under the most unusual of circumstances, but he all but forgotten the details. He nudged her softly. "Mistress.....please....are you injured badly.....can you hear me....", his voice was almost pleading, filled yet with an excitement, here was a mage whom had passed her test, granted it looked as though she had just passed, but still, she had more power than him, he would learn such..... Ashlyn, Laconfir, Holly, and Layna were busy chatting as they sauntered back towards town. Anvi was the main topic of conversation, what was he doing and why had he left in such a hurry? They all knew him to be a quiete young man, but he was acting very strange indeed. "I say we follow him, see what he's getting up to" said Ashlyn. The others looked a bit nervous, but they sheepishly agreed.

Into the Inn of the Last Home Anvi went, even at this distance they could smell Otik's fine fare. The four of them were about to leave the bushes when a scuffle broke out near them. At the same moment Anvi was ushered out of the Inn, along with another group that seemed to be making their escape.

What they saw next shocked them beyond belief. The struggling figure suddenly slumped to the ground, much to the delight of the guard. In mere seconds Anvi was facing the man, anger and rage aparant on his face. They spat unpleasantries at each other, then the guard drew his sword. Before he had time to strike anvi, the man was lying dead, his chest full of magical darts. They all gasped.

The four of them crept towards Anvi and the cloaked figure. "Anvi, are you mad" Ashlyn said. All four were pale. Even though they didnt know Anvi well, they were worried for him. The repercussions would come, and they would not be kind to Anvi. Ashlyn looked at each in turn "What do we do now" he whispered.

Laconfir narrowed his eyes at the fallen corpse, then the single strongest instinct in any Tiefling kicked in. Self-preservation. He snarled, baring his fangs and ran over to the body, rifling his pockets for valuables, cominng up with a few coins and a couple of precious stones of some kind, a brib from a smuggler caravan no doubt. Then he tied a rope around the feet of the guard, he fastened the other end to the saddle of a nearby horse, which he then mounted.

"Ashlyn and you, mage-girl (ooc; that's Holly) take Anvi and the Dark Elf to Anvi's place. Whatever you do don't let that old biddy next door see, she'll give us no end of hassle. and probably get someone to bless the house so's I can't get in. "come on Anvi, we havent got time to sit about worrying...we've got to make sure nobody knows about this". He turned to Laconfir, "We'll see you back at Anvi's"

The two of them helped Anvi up, he was in a terrible state and provided little help in getting the stranger back to his house.

Alirianah stirred, and groaned, her head hurt! She opened one eye cautiously, to find her gaze returned by the white robe she noticed earlier. "Ouch." she muttered and reached up to touch the swollen knot on the back of her head.

"Fool Human! He'll pay for this..." she growled, then caught the look in Anvi's eyes. "Or have you payed him for me kind sir?" she smiled charmingly...her almond shaped plum eyes looking around the place she had been taken to.You can steel the band from the Cooper hands

Layna stared at Laconfir for a second. She couldn't quite believe what she had just seen. She was beginning to think "excitement" wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Her common sense, however, quickly kicked in. She helped Laconfire pick up the body and headed towards the lake. When they reached the shore, Layna followed Laconfir's instructions, tying heavy rocks to the body and helping him to toss it out far out into the lake. When the deed was finished, they stepped back for a minute to rest. Layna stared out across the water, reflecting on the murder, if that's what to call it, she had just participated in. As she did so, she could just make out several figures climbing into a boat and setting sail further down they lake. She wondered who they were and what they could be doing at this time of night.“We pity him. We hate him. Laconfir followed his companion's gaze, his sharp eyes picking out the small single-sail boa through the mist,

Layna turned to look at him. "I'm not about to go rushing into anything, but....." She trailed off, knowing full well that, deep inside, she wanted nothing more than to rush off and see what was going on. "The others will be just fine at Anvi's house. It won't hurt if we go just a little closer to investigate. It might have something to do with all the other weird stuff that'd been going on."

After waiting for Laconfir's nod of agreement, she ran off down the shore in the direction of the boat. The late hour and thick mist made it hard to see, and she wasn't quite sure how they'd reach the boat once the got a little closer. Still, the pair reached a spot on the shore from which they could clearly see the boat, sailing away from them across Crystalmir Lake. She was trying to make out the shapes of the people in the boat, but it was getting too dark to see.

Her attempts were interupted by the sound of leaves rustling in the forest not far away from them. Shouts could be heard, and it sounded as if a group of people were looking for something. Unsure of what to do, Layna darted behind a nearby tree and motioned to the tiefling to do the same. She then peered out and tried to see what was happening.“We pity him. We hate him. We fear him – all because there is a little of him in each of us, though we admit it to ourselves only in the darkest part of the night.”

Laconfir's bizarre facial markings caught the moonlight reflecting off the lake, making him seem more unearthly than ever. His slanted eyes were, Layna noticed for the first time, sheer black orbs from edge to edge. The Tiefling drew a curved sword of a design Layna had never seen befoer, its lines flowing and organic and it's material vaugley reminiscent of bone.

"I really don't want to get held up here Layna, we are going to have to get Anvi out of the village by sunrise."

He caught Layna looking at his sword,

"Its an hierloom from the less Krynnish side of my family. And I'd recomend that you keep your senses open, I think have us loosely surrounded.""Ah, they have a cave troll....."

Back at Anvi's, the others were intrigued by this mysterious woman who had thrown an otherwise normal day into complete chaos. Anvi was very attentive, and seemingly protective for some reason. When Holly tried to get a closer look, he snapped at her "just get water, and stop interferring" he said harshly.

Ashlyn kept his distance, he paced back and forth, wondering why Layna and Laconfir were taking such a long time.

Suddenly, Layna got the feeling that she was in way over her head. The tiefling's exotic appearence, the easy way he drew his sword, all served to convince her that he was a far more experienced fighter and adventurer than she was. She was beginning to feel just the very first inklings of fear.

But she quickly shook off any feelings of hesitation. She glanced around, and found a large stick that she figured she could use as self defense. It looked puny and small compared to Laconfir's sword, and she felt as though she wouldn't be able to do much damage with it anyway. But at least it was something.

"Alright." She murmmured to Laconfir. "What do you want me to do?"“We pity him. We hate him. We fear him – all because there is a little of him in each of us, though we admit it to ourselves only in the darkest part of the night.”

"Run.""Ah, they have a cave troll....."

Layna liked Laconfir's instructions, running was something she was quite capable of. She ran through the woods away from the three figures headed towards them, hoping she wouldn't run into any more on the way back towards town. She slowed to a light jog once she had put some distance in between herself and her pursuers. She was nearing town when she heard some talking and shouting not far away. She darted behind a tree and waited. Several men passed within a few feet of her, talking intently about "catching up with 'em," and muttering "they just ran out, couldn't have gotten far." Layna held her breath in fear.

After the men had passed, she waited for a few minutes just to be sure. Then she slipped out from behind the tree and ran in the direction of Solace. She reached the outskirts of town and started to walk towards Anvi's house.“We pity him. We hate him. "If you must know...I was supposed to meet with the Therocrat...but it seems that our meeting will never take place...pity...and as far as black robes not traveling...I happen to like traveling...being a dark elf, well we'll say it keeps me on the move."

She studied Anvi carefully. "Alirianah...but you can call me Liri or Raven if you wish." She said, holding out her hand, an onyx ring gleamed on her finger, carved lovingly to look like a Raven. "I am in your debt apprentice..." She said, true gratitude filled her dark eyes. she paused and stared at the door. Layna heard Anvi say her name just as she entered. She stepped into the light of the room and answered him. "Yes, it's me. We got held up a bit, but everything's taken care of." She gave him a meaningful look. She didn't really see that it would make a difference if she said "The body's taken care of," but common sense dictated that one didn't say those sorts of things out loud.

"There were some people out on Crystalmir Lake on a boat. I thought it was kind of odd, at this time of night. We went over to investigate, but we didn't get a good look at them because there were other people in the woods. They might have been looking for the people who went out in the boat, but I'm not sure. I'm a little confused by everything that's happened tonight. Laconfir obviously thought they were dangerous, though, because he...." She glanced around a little nervously, "killed one of them." He said something about getting Anvi out of the village before tommorow. Then he told me to run. He wasn't with me at the moment, but I'm sure he's not far behind."

She paused, looking around the room at the strange scene, then continued. "Anvi, what's going on?"“We pity him. We hate him. We fear him – all because there is a little of him in each of us, though we admit it to ourselves only in the darkest part of the night.”

He sighed akwardly. "I wish i knew Layna. Everything just seems soo strange. There was a mage with that group that escaped from the Inn.....i supposed i had best tell you about them. Well....i was at the Inn...i needed something from Otik.....then this barbarian woman, she was bloody beautiful to say the least. An old man told her to sing, she appeared baffled, but then did so. Her voice.....its diffficult to decribed, i just wanted to cry or something.....but the song was about the old gods, those thought to have left after the cataclysm......needless to say the Theocrat thought it was blasphemy and started to cause trouble.....he had had a few to drink...."

" Anyway.....he caught fire somehow.....then the kender....yeah a kender, picked up the staff that belonged to barbarian woman and thumped it across the Theocrat's chest, it shone a bright blue, and he was healed, the flames were gone and the burn marks vanished....but he was appaulded, thinkning it evil magic or something.....so the group....a dwarf, a red robed mage.....he was rather strange, but i'll tell you about him later, "he looked to Liri....."A really big man, and a kender, plus a half elf i think, couldn't tell cause he had a beard, but his eyes told it all......"

"They left through the kitchen and then i was ushered out the door......when i came out i looked over the side to see the mage floating down, i was soo excited, i began to walk down the stairs, then i heard the man attacking Liri and then......well....you know what happens from there."

He walked over to the trunk, pulled out a satchet, another plain white robe and one which seemed to have a lot of strange symbols on it....holding it for a while he stuffed into his bag. Another satchet, he slung over his other shoulder, after browsing through the bookcase and small libary, he picked a few books off the shelves and put them in, including the two primars.

"I know i have to leave, they'll convict me of murder most likely. I don't want that.....they'll probably try a witch burning, i don't want to harm anyone, but i suppose i wouldn't be able to do much anyway."

"I will leave, by myself if need be...there is nothing holding me here any longer, and i feel Solace is heading for alot more trouble very shortly, what happened in the Inn wasn't even the beginning of it. I would like for you to travel with me.....", again he looked to Liri....."And any of the others.....we're old enough to take care of ourselves, and grandpa left me plenty of steel before he died....we are good for a while yet."

As Anvi finished his sentence there was a loud clash of steel outside the door, then it burst open, depositing a one of the town guards on the doormat, two things were immediatly noticable, the first was the number of unlit torches and tinderboxes the guard had been carrying, the second was the curved sword protruding from the man's back, just the colour of bone. Laconfir walked in and removed his sword, wiping it on the guard's tunic as he talked,

"Looks like they didn't bother with the trial friend. This one was sent up here to surroound the house with firewood, the others are folloing up with fuel and some have gone to get the Solomanic Knights."

He stood up and smashed his fist into a wooden cupboard, sending splinters spraying across the room, he removed some food, whcih he passed to Layna,

"Ashlyn, you get our mage friends out to the old ruin outside Solace, yes I do mean the one that everyone but me is petrified of, that's the point. Layna and I will follow up. Grab some food and take a couple of those torches."

He indicated the fallen guard to Layna,

"Grab his sword, it looks well made enough, don't bother with the chainmail, it'll only slow us down. The shield is worth taking though. Then help me set fire to this place, it'll stop them tracking us."

He raised an eyebrow at Ashlyn and Anvi,

Anvi didn't like taking orders, he liked being in control of things, orderly...but he gave this up to Laconfir for now. He looked round to Liri..."I...we....could use your help....though i understand if you wish not to accompany a few teenagers on this little escape......i would also like to learn from you....", his cheeks blushed as he headed for the door, the silver moonlight shimmering on his robes, the red casting a pink across the shadows.

He turned and looked around the house. His grandfathers books, furniture. The chair....tears welled in his eyes....they would burn his house no doubt. He loathed to leave it....those books held such power....he prayed...to the three gods of magic....and sweeped out the door....wondering if the black robe would follow suit. Layna picked up the dead guard's sword and shield, staggering a bit at first. The she followed Laconfir out the back door of the house. Laconfir immediately set to work torching the house. Layna paused a moment before setting fire to a pile of wood. All of Anvi's books, his heirlooms..... But it had to be done. She sparked the fire.

Once Anvi's house was safely up in flames, Layna turned to Laconfir. "I'll run to my father's bakery quickly. No one will be there at this time of night, and it'll give us a chance to get some provisions. I think my crossbow is there too, so at least I'll have some way to help protect us. I'll go by the side streets, no one will see me." She waited for Laconfir's nod of approval, then set off.

She arrived at the backery and glanced around to see if anyone was nearby. Then she took a key out from under a flower pot and opened the backdoor. She grabbed a satchel and began filling it with bread and some dried fruit. She looked around for something that could hold water, but all she could find a ceramic jar. "Too breakable." she muttered. She grabbed her bow as she ran out the door, locking it behind her for no particular reason. Then she set off at a run for the ruins outside of town.“We pity him. We hate him. Laconfir stood at the front of the house as the guards and a couple of Knights of Solamnia rode up, stopping short as they saw the Tiefling. The raginf flames under the night sky served only to increase his fiendish appearance, the flickering light sending strange highlights over his bizarre markings and reflecting off his already disquietening eyes. One of the guards approached Laconfir, sword drawn and sneered at him,

"Where are they?"

The Tiefling laughed, a dark manevolent sound,

"They are beyond you, unless you fancy a trip to the Abyss."

He indicated the burning house, as if it were a portal to that hellish plane. Then he grinned and backflipped away from the guard, hurling himself into the bulding, where he dissapeared in the flames. Dazed and confused the guards and Knights left to find a mage to help analyse the flaming 'portal'.

A few moments later a figure crawled out of the conflaguration. Laconfir stood up, strangely he showed no sign of having been burned at all. He set off at a steady jog, heading for the ruins. Behined him the house collapsed, when the guard's mage contact arrived the next day, he would find no trace of any supernatural activity, much less an Abyssal portal.

She followed them out....as she did, her lips where moving quickly...her hand holding something in a tight grip....as she did, she felt her pack get a little heavier...and she smiled.

She stopped when they did, but she didn't like being in the open...of them all she would be the first to be suspect...She thrust her pack to Anvi and stepped away.

"I need to hide...if they find me...I am surely dead...Whatever you do...DO NOT Loose that pack!" She cried, leaning forward to brush her lips against Anvi's cheek. She held her right hand up, and allowed the Onyx ring on her hand get touched by the light of all three moons.... and she was gone.

Ashlyn ran towards the ruin with the others, leaving Laconfir behind to take care of Anvi's home.

Out of breath and swept up in the commotion, he took a few moments to sit down in the grass and rest. He loved Solace, it had been his home for all of his 16 years, and now he was running from it. For what? because Anvi had not been able to contain his anger.....or was it lust? Was this really Anvi's fault though, or were other forces involved in bringing together this rag tag group?

Ashlyn had been raised by his father his whole life, his mother dying in child birth. The man had given Ashlyn a strong sense of religion, told him that the Gods played a pivotal role in the outcome of people's lives. He would now have to make a choice that would affect the rest of his life...run back to his father....or follow what he believed to be a calling.

More often than not, he was happy, full of life, and always ready to play a joke, but now he sat with tears streaming down his cheeks. He loved his father dearly, and now he was ready to leave without even saying goodbye. He didnt know whether he would ever see him again. Sobbing, he turned his face towards the heavens and prayed that someday he would see his father again.

With that done he wiped his tears with the sleave of his shirt, stood up, and made his way over to Anvi. "Anvi, I'm ready" he said.

Alirianah turned her head to stare at Layna....The Raven's eyes where bright in the darkness, and she Cawed, and rustled her feathers. He mused over Layna's question for a moment....."Laconfir will be alright....he can take care of himself i believe...he may have just taken a small detour to get more food......we'll wait till the red moon reaches its zeneth then go....if he is still to come then he'll catch up no problem.....that sound ok?" Ashlyn was happy to see Layna had made it safely. Although he usually teased her unmercifully, he had a soft spot for her. Unlike the other kids that were happy with their uneventful lives, she longed for something more, and that quality he admired.

He held out his hand, helped her to her feet and offered to carry the sack of provisions. "You didnt happen to see Laconfir on your way out of town, did you?" he said.

Layna smiled gratefully at Ashlyn and handed over the sack of provisions. "No, I haven't seen him since we parted at Anvi's house. Although I'm sure he's just fine. After all, he seems to have more experience as a fighter than the rest of us put together."

Layna continued to chat with Ashlyn as they waited for Lunitari to reach its zenith. She liked Ashlyn, even though the two of them had always pretended to dislike each other. Probably because Ashlyn loved playing jokes on her, and she usually responded by pretending to get mad. But they'd had a sort of easy friendship for a while now, and she felt more comfortable talking to him than she did to any of the more mysterious members of their group.“We pity him. We hate him. Laconfir ghosted into the ruins a little before Lunitari reached it's peak. He headed first for the old well, he heaved the stone lid off and slid it to the floor. It slipped and banged loudly, Laconfir winced, any searchers nearby would have heared that. Although any locals within hearing range would have put it down to the spook goings-on that were reputed to be a part of the old ruins. He hauled up a couple of buckets of water and headed for the small hill on the outskirts of the ruins that he assumed they had gathered on. He hoped the bang hadn't spooked them, the Dark Elf would most likley assume it was something relitavly mundane, but the others had grow up with stories of the ruins being haunted and infested with demons."Ah, they have a cave troll....."

"What was that" Ashlyn said, feeling the tingle of nervous adrenalin surge through his body. They looked at each other, not quite knowing what to do next. A few moments later they saw a shadowy figure making its way up the hill towards them. "Its one of the gaurds on patrol, they've found us" Ashlyn whispered nervously. "What do we do now, they'll kill us the first chance they get".

"Whatever it is, it must have already seen us." Layna murmured. "So there's no use in hiding. I suppose we'll just have to wait and see." Laconfir emerged from the shadows of the ruins onto the open ground of the hill, a bucket of water in one hand and his sword in the other. He looked up at the crest of the hill and his sharp eyes gave him two pieces of rather worrying information, there was one less figure than there should be, and the Tiefling was sure he could see the glimmer of the moolight reflecting off a weapon of somekind......."Ah, they have a cave troll....."

Layna hesitated as she picked up her bow. She'd never actually shot someone before. Then again, she'd done a lot of things tonight she'd never done before. And if she was going to prove any sort of asset to the group, she'd have to be willing to take some risks. She notched an arrow, then let it fly. It soared throught the air, and her aim was true. She held her breath as she heard the arrow thunk into the dark figure.“We pity him. We hate him. As Laconfir approached, Ashlyn noticed the arrow protruding from the middle of the bucket, water trickled to the ground. "Well, at least we know who to call upon if were ever attacked by rabid buckets" he said, turning to Layna.

Layna was angry at herself. OK, she shouldn't have shot at Laconfir, but missing and hitting the bucket was even worse. She had half a mind to shoot an arrow straight into Ashlyn's ear. Well, she'd show him. She turned and replied haughtily,

"Well you never know. There are some strange creatures on Krynn, rumors of even dragons returning. Who's to say we won't get attacked by rabid buckets?"

Somehow, when Ashlyn fell to the ground in a fit of laughter, she knew it hadn't been the right thing to say.“We pity him. We hate him. We fear him – all because there is a little of him in each of us, though we admit it to ourselves only in the darkest part of the night.”

Laconfir walked up to the group, a now empty bucket fell from his hands. He glared at Layna,

"You.....idiot! You could have killed me. And where's the Dark Elf? Or did you shoot her as well?"

The enraged Tiefling's rant was cut short. All the others saw initialy was a burst of flame erupt from Laconfir's shoulder and fall to the ground in a spray that carried on burning. Laconfir narrowed his eyes and span around, drawing his sword. As he turned, the others saw the arrow protruding from his left shoulder. He began to walk backward, his left arm hanging limp and useless at his side,

"Someone is apparently a better shot than our baker's daughter here. On the count of three, run......"

One of them might just as easily have acted first. And then they had the nerve to make fun of her for being a bad shot. As if they would have preferred for her to hit Laconfir instead of the bucket.

She could heard Anvi gasping behind her, but the skilled veteran of many Goblin Ball games could run for longer than this without becoming winded.“We pity him. We hate him. Alirianah cawed, and flew from Anvi's shoulder....she was quite rested now and she cawed out one word...."Shirak!" The raven seemed to explode in a rush of feathers....and Alirianah returned to her elven form.

"Go! Get out....I will do as I can to get rid of them....You saved my life Anvi....I owe you this much...All of you GET OUT!" She screamed, and ran back the other way, hoping to her Goddess that they would actually listen...if they didn't, well, her cover was blown (PLZ no one follow her....her secret will come out to the group eventually)

She ran back and came in contact with the pursuing group. They leered at her and a Draconican...a Sivak stepped forward. "Sssstupid Elff....Now you Ssssal Die..."

"I don't think so Krellin...." she snarled in reply...her dark eyes flashing. The Draconian stepped back in surprise as the Elf faded from sight....and the Black dragon, Kirshah, known as Raven to most mortals....loomed into view. "Back off this group for now...resume your pusuit of the group that fled the tavern...I have plans for them."

The Sivak glared angrily at her, but knew better than to argue....she could wipe out his entire troop without even taxing herself. He turned , and waved his arm back, singaling that they where to turn back. He cast her one more dark look, and then with the rest of the goblins, fled back into the night.

Kirshah smiled, and turned her head back to where the group had been....she might as well make it look like she fought them. Muttering softly, the dragon cast her fire spells, and the forest went up around her....and she returned to her Raven form, and flew high above it....searching for the group. In the Valleys of Fear,

Not wanting to look back, in fear of seeing guards bearing down on him, Ashlyn sprinted into the woods. Fearing an arrow might suddenly thud into his back, he flung himself amongst some shrubs and underbrush. He could only hope the others had the sense to do the same.

"Are you alright?" she asked, as she looked around....she stared at the oncoming flames and cursed....she didn't want this group to die....yet....

she looked around and spotted a dark cave...being an elf , she could see better than the rest...let alone being a dragon. She smiled to herself and pointed. "There! Hide there...I can use my magic to protect us and hide us as well...though I doubt that we'll be followed...." She cried, and helped Anvi along, allowing him to lean on her.

This last image woke Ashlyn suddenly, he sat up quickly, sweat dampened his hair and his head spun. Noticing the others were still asleep, he snuck out of the cave to get some fresh air. She had sulked all night after Ashlyn had joked about her near miss, and he genuinely felt sorry. At least she had the nerve to take a shot. He had been ready to turn and run like a scolded child. Laconfir crouched on top of a tall mound of boulders above the cave where the others sat. He was searching the valley below, his sharp eyes picking out the ever-approaching searchers. Humans by the looks of it, probably the town guards. He wouldn't tell the others yet, they would decide, wisely, to run. Laconfir didn't need that. So he waited as they came to the base of the path leading to the cave.

Close enough my friends.

He jumped down the cavemouth, sword drawn, startling the three who were sitting down eating. He pointed down to the path, where the first guard could just about be seen,

"I just turned around and there they were. Couldn't get numbers, but they obviously don't like us."

As the other four left, the Teifling leapt around the corner, separating one man's head from his body and ripping through the liver of the other with the backswing. After a moment or two of pointless parrying the guards had him surrounded, not including the small path that he stood before, and the others had taken. The leader stood forward and laughed,

"You really think you can take all of us?"

Without waiting for an answer he plunged his sword into Laconfir's chest. The tielfing looked up and smiled,

"Who said I wanted too?"

With that the air around him burst with light and searing flames, he fell backwards through a burning hole in the world, the guards being dragged in with him. As the captin passed him, Laconfir turned to him and laughed,

His anger stormed through his body, mixing with magic, forming words he knew little of. Lightning poured forward, flaming darts seared flesh and boiled skin. Bone splintered and blood sprang freely. Picking up a large peice of splintered wood he began his charge. He closed in on the guard at a frightening pace, his speed fueled by anger and fear. A look of utter surprise crossed the man's pock marked face as Ashlyn plunged the stake into his chest. A few last gasps of air was all the guard could manage before he fell on the ground dead.

Just an image of myself....nothing more than an illusion of my true self.... she laughed, and mumbed the worlds softly, her hand crumbling rose petals....she uttered the last word, and flung the petals forward, and the ghostly image of her true self reared up between the remaining guards and the group.

The image mimicked Alirianah's movements, as it roared and lunged harmlessly at the guards...who in turn, panicked and ran. Liri laughed as she dismissed the image...

"Humans! afraid of what is not truely there" she laughed, resting against the cave wall.In the Valleys of Fear,
Do I walk with my head high;
The weakness that threatens,
My courage belies.
And when it is courage
That fails me aw well
It is hope and my faith
That save me from Hell

OOC: Are we waiting for Laconfir to come back from holiday? or is it dying, hope not.

Anvi began to rouse. His head ached. "W..what happened....LACONFIR!", he jolted up. "He was swallowed by that firey hole thing. It seemed to rip the very air." He still ached, spending himself in such a manner was reckless, he did not have the power or knowledge to cast spells everyday, he was of low rank, but he had an idea of how to fix that. His gaze wondered to Liri....she had soo much dark magic, but she had the power he craved yet could not reach as yet. He would ask her later...when they were alone.

Liri frowned as she studied Anvi, his white robes stood out too much in her mind...she smiled to herself as she decided to fix that. with a single word, and a wave of her hand, his robes where replaced by a soft white silk tunic that held the same runes that his robe did, a pair of buck skin breeches, and stiff leather boots, a pack appeared at his feet, and rolled inside was his robe, and the rest of the things from his home....

Liri, dusted off her own clothes...she wore all black, silk and leather...her robe remained within her pack...she refused to bother with it unless she had to...it was too obvious to travel about in such a fashion...especially when one was being looked for.

"I hope you don't mind...I figured since we're being sought after...It would be better if you didn't wear those robes." she said, and turned to the rest of the group.

They came into view of Palanthas, he said to Liri that it would be best to land a little away from the city, so as not to arouse unwanted curiousity. The greart raven landed and they all leaped off. He dusted himself, knowing full well that there was no dust, it was an unconscious habit.

Layna was brimming with excitement. Palanthas! she thought happily. She had never imagined she could be so far from Solace so quickly. She skipped ahead of Anvi towards the gates.*Shut up, brain, or I'll stab you with a Q-Tip!* :D:D:D:D:D:D

Dark_Master

He watched as Layna moved on ahead rapidly. He wanted to shout out but decided he had best leave her to the excitement. Anvi had to admit he was rather excited aswell. Palanthas didn't seem to have changed. He would enjoy seeing some familiar faces and sites. The very smells drifting from the city stirred nearly forgotten memories, shaking them a little to remind him that they were still there. He smiled little. The first time for a few days. They had had little to smile about and for some reason it felt good to be out of solace. Aside from the trouble he had caused, and the people were nice, but you could never beat home. Even the sight of that black tower brouoght pleasent and fond memories.......he caught himself thinking.....Gods....you would think i was an old man remembering the good old days..

They neared the entrance, didn't recognise the two guards. But he noticed the them looking oddly at them.......Anvi supposed it did look a little odd.....a group of kids wandering out of the countryside and coming straight for the gates. Luckily the gaurds didn't seem to think a group of kids would cause much hassle....but they gave them a small warning not to get into trouble. With a last glance at Anvi with the bird on his shoulder, they let them pass.

They were in Palanthas...."Come, i'll take you to an old friend of my grandfather's......he's a mage, but really nice, i'm sure he'll put us up."

"Do you think he'll have anything to eat?" Ashlyn said. He'd been hungry ever since they started the trip.

"He should do, he likes his food....", Anvi chuckled slightly at the memory. But Ashlyn was away, running after Layna. Something was wrong though, usually the city was buzzing at this time, but now.....only a few littered the streets. Even at that the lords and ladies looking for finery where few and scattered. He didn't muse on it though and rounded the corner.

Layna ran away from Ashlyn, laughing and ducking. She soon acquiring a stick of her own and ran forward to engage in mock swordplay. The darker events of the past days were quite forgotten. "Come on, let's go", he said to Layna, letting down his guard and in the process taking a whack to his cheek and ear. "Ouch, watch it !!!!", he cast her a sideways glance as they began running towards the side street where they had seen Anvi last.

Or the Shoikan Grove? What about the Library?" She began prattling off everything she'd ever heard there was to do in Palanthas in a manner than would make a kender proud. *Shut up, brain, or I'll stab you with a Q-Tip!* :D:D:D:D:D:D

OOC Is it ok if I squeeze my way into the story? It's the only active one that interests me... all the other ones are kinda lax... If not, tell me and I'll delete this :D

Deik(dee-k) looked through through the window of a Jenna's mageware shop, with eyes that were the colour of bloated rain clouds, crackling dangerously with lightning and thunder, as well as the promise of rain. The were a light gray in colour.
He ran his hands through silken dark hair, that hung down to his shoulders, and tied at the base of his neck with a red leather thong.
His red robes were plain, anadorned except for golden runes of protection on the sleeves and hem.

Deik was a red robed mage, a follower of Lunitari, goddess of neutral magic.
His eyes spoke of great knowlegde of the arcane, and ambition. Deik held in his hands a spellbook, quite thin still, as he was only a minor mage.
At the age of 17, he was not quite ready to take his Test of High Sorcery. But he could feel the magic running through his blood like fire.

Every time he cast a spell, it was like falling into a state of exctasy so great, he never wanted it to end. But he knew his limits.
Like any mage, the spellcasting was taxing. It demanded your physical strength. He knew that well.

This day, Deik had been over to the Three Moons shop, to visit Mistress Jenna. She was his aunt, her father's brother's son's son.
He enjoyed going to her shop, looking at the wares that she had for sale, or barter.
He knew that he was lucky, for no novice mage was allowed in that shop, until they had passed the Tests of High Sorcery.
But she knew he had a burning talent, and a good helping of common sense.
He never touched anything in the shop, that wasn't at his level of magic.

Now, he was on his way over to Lantar's house, to deliver a small package of herbs he had ordered from Jenna. It was tucked safely in his robes, along with his own spell components and minor artifacts.
For those, he had been lucky. The use of artifacts were generally allowed only with those who had passed their Tests, and were fully qualified mages.

But Jenna had been happy to give them to him, for a rare herbs that he had unnowingly collected while on a trek through the forests of Darken Wood, on his way from Haven to Palanthas after studying herblore with an elven herbmaster from Qualinesti.

He was just rounding the bend that would lead him directly to Lantar's house, when he heard a scuffling sound from the dark alley to his right. Then, the hissing of a blade being drawn.
Very cautiously and quiet, he took out a ring, and placed it on his finger. It was beautiful, made to look like vines encircling his finger. Its power was to send out vines to trap the person and hold them until they broke free, or destroyed it with their own spell.

He dropped his spellbook, and spoke the word Shirak! and a ball of light illuminated the dark alley. A wiry man, with dark hair and beard, wearing the clothes of a street man had a dagger drawn, and was aiming it at him at a run. Quickly, he spoke a spidery word of command, and the magical vines shot out of the ring, and encircled the man, trapping him. Next, not sure what to do, he called for the guardsmen.
A patrol came swiftly from around the corner, and picked up the situation from there. He was forced t tell the what happened, and they commended him for his bravery. Disbeleiving and a little tired, he continued on his way to Lantar's house. He walked up the walkway, and knocked.
"You cannot reach them. We tried once, yes, precious. I tried once;
but you cannot reach them. Only shapes to see, perhaps, not to touch.
No precious! All dead." -Gollum

Ashlyn heard the knock and looked over at the door, "shomeone's at the door Lantar" he said, his mouth full of food. He let out a muffled chuckle, then quickly looked down at his plate feigning innocence.

Lantar walked open to the door, hideing an arcane gesture as he did so, muttering a short sentence under his breath as he reached for the door handle.

Thus it was that Deik was greeted with the sight of a smiling, but usual Lantar, behined whom were several young-looking pople, one of whom wass currently disappearing under a hail of peas that had materialised out of thin air above his head. Lantar had always had a mischevious sense of humour.

"Ah, Deik, come in - did you get the supplies I needed, ah! Thank you. I'll see if I can't dig you out some old trinket as a token of thanks."

He turned around to face the others, shutting the door behined Deik and snapping his fingers to stop the still materialising peas.

"Anvi, this is Deik, Deik, old man Ruggit's grandson, Anvi. Mage of the White Robes. And Liri, mage of the Black Robes unless I've lost my touch."

Deik grinned sheepishly. "Hi," he said to those around him. He waved and sat down. Immediately, a barrage of peas was sent his way, to much laughter and giggling.
He couldn't help himself, so he picked up some of the peas, fused them with an incantation of his own, and sent them whizzing around the room, hitting whoever got in the way. He laughed until his sides hurt, and then laughed some more. They were all getting along well, even though they had just met, and having a good laugh.
