Maiuna (Pounounced as Mai-Une-Ah)frowned at the parchment in her hand...The bounty on this guy was considerable...but considering what he had done...she wondered if she would make it out. She chucled at herself and tucked the parchment back into the small pouch attached at her waist.

"alright then" she said pulling her long, blue-black hair back into a ponytail. "We head for the city of Neraka first thing in the morning." she said. Will we find Our next bounty there? came a soft voice, like velvet against silk. Maiuna turned and patted Koale, her one companion, a pitch black Pegasus on one delicately folded wing.

"Yes Koale...we leve at dawn." She pulled the saddle and blankets from his back and the pegasus fluttered his wings and tossed his mane in gatitude to be rid of the combersome contraption. Thank you...that thing itches

Maiuna laughed. "sorry friend...I don't want to fall off of you hundreds of yards in the air." She struck the flint and steel and started the fire. She sighed as she looked up at the stars. "Well Koale...our next hit...but that poster in Palanthas disturbed me...thats why we're sitting out here...and not in an Inn...some one has put bounty on me!? A bounty on a Bounty Hunter...ridicculus!! I am trying to make things nicer and rid Krynn of some of the nastiest of the scum here....and they go and put a bounty on me!?" She scoffed.

Maiuna my friend...you seemed to have forgotten the riot you caused up in Solomnia...that incident nearly destroyed the city! Koale snorted, and pawed the earth.

"that was an accident!! How did I know that the man I was after had a twin! I made a mistake...everyone does..."

Koal tossed his head and neighed. Mental laughter filled her head all would be fine in that respect mind-mate...if the person you killed was a Male!! You killed the feind's twin SISTER!!

Maiuna frowned at the Pegasus. "Its not my fault that his twin went around dressed as a man all the time...if she had grown her hair longer...it wouldn't have been a problem!" she growled, and turned from her equine companion, and poked at the rabbit roasting on the spit. suddenly she tensed....she heard something...someone moving steathily behind her.

Her hand tensed on her sword, her other hand rested gently on the dust covered ground as her heels rocked, and she rested easily in a crouched postition.Oh, Moons of Mercy, Moons of Light

Kendi paused as she saw Maiuna shift. It became clear to her that she would not win tonight, in this moment, and silent as a wolf she crept back into the forest and propelled herself to the trees, a considerable distance away yet close enough to know if they moved. She also had her own spies she could rely on, and once comfortable in the crook of a tree, situated herself for a light rest."Faithless is he who says farewell when the road darkens." -- Gimli, The Fellowship Of The Ring

Kayito walked amoung the trees, listening to their songs, his purple robes skirting the grass. He preferred travelling at night, the midnight smells drifting gently on un-seeable breezes and the moons and stars shining in the black sky, reminded him of home. Deep in thought he stumbled over a small wooden stump. Muttering curses to himself he resumed his pace. The night was slightly chilly for his liking and thought about creating a fire but decided against it, his fire brought no warmth.

Once again lost in deep thought, he pondered his future. Did he even have one? Kayito was a mage, though not one of the three orders of high sorcery and so was branded renegade. He was part of a order of forgotten magic. A host of mages who trained all their lives to perfect their specific art. There were seven fields from which to choose

Fire, Water, Mountain, Lightning, Moon, Light and Dark....Dark was Kayito's field, though not by choice.

His father was a Magician of the Dark and so forced his son to be so as well. His magic focuses on aspects related to the Dark and forms attacks or defenses out of them. Kayito proved very adept at the field however was always compared with his father, who sat on the council of seven.

One advantage of being a mage of his order was not having to memorise the arcane langauge. He wouldn't have the patience to do so. A obvious disadvantage was that the selection of spells was severly limited.

With him, Kayito carried a staff of metal the colour of an emerald and atop the staff contained within a semi-oval shaped head... a jem of purest blackness.

Suddenly he noticed the flickering of firelight and headed towards it. Emerging through the trees he came upon a woman sitting on the ground. "Oh.. i am terribly sorry...but...may i trouble you and ask if i can sit by your fire, the night is somewhat nippy.

OOC: okay...first, Sly Maiuna and Koale are on the ground not in the air....Please read posts before you reply to them...I made sure that my postition was well noted...

And Thistle...play what you want...this story is pretty much a free-for-all...I have no real plot and anyone is welcome to take over...I just wanted to intro my new character.

BIC: Maiuna frowned at the stranger...She knew, thanks to Koale that he wsa one of three that prowled these woods tonite. She shifted uneasily, and shethed the sword. The fire light caught the blade, and reflected as though out of a mirror. The stranger could see that the sword was of unknown make... A pair of cresents set back to back marked the hilt...and they seemed to be made of polished black onyx.

Koale snorted and stamped his hoves. Maiuna looked at her friend, and then turned narrowed Tourquise blue eyes onto the stranger. Her long black hair shimmered in the firelight, and her dusky skin tone seemed to glisten in the light. "you may stay...share the fire...but I warn you...any funny moves, and I will share my blade...understand?" she said, her voice cool and calm.

She turned and rummaged through an unmarked black velvet pouch. She went through several pakets of herbs, each marked with a different color. She opened several vials, sniffed at each, nodded and put the vials back...resealing the wax seal before setting them back into the bag. she pulled out a shimmering silver pendant set with a dark sapphire. She stood, and walked over to Koale.

The pegasus raised his head. Maiuna muttered something softly, and Koale lowered his noble head so that she could reach it easily. She muttered unknown words...in a mix of languages...and gently rested the pendant on Koales' forhead. Koale started, and Neighed...he reared, and flapped his broad wings...the silver and sapphire pendant shimmered on his forhead...it shimmered, then changed.

When Koal settled, the pendant was gone...and in it's place was a shimmering horn of silver and blue crystal. Koal, now was an Alicorn....A single horned Pegasus...

" I understand..My thanks dear lady." Crouching beside the fire he lay his staff by his side in easy reach. He watched in earnest interest at the winged horse's transformation and the horn atop its head. He was captivated by the beast, its majestic stance and aura fascinated Kayito.

Folding his legs, Kayito held his hands out towards the fire. All the while he to kept his guard up and watched the woman with the corner of his eye. He wasn't sure if he should make conversation, she didn't look the type for idle chit chat. "So...may i ask the name of the inchanting woman whose company i am in?" Maiuna looked back at Kayito, then gently rubbed Koale's muzzle, and held out her palm...The Alicorn took the offer and munched on the hardened sugar treat. "just as I promised Koale.." she smiled.

Koale nuzzled her shoulder Thank you friend... He sent. Koale locked his smoldering fire/coal-like eyes onto the stranger

He seems okay...what do you think? He wickered.

Maiuna turned and studied Kayito. Her bright eyes locked onto his for an uncomfortable moment, when she shrugged.

"My name is Maiuna Soa (May-Une-Ah So-Ah) This is my companion Koale (Coal) Whats your name?" she asked, as she tied the black velvet bag closed and muttered in that same alien language...and the black pouch flashed a bright red for an instant then returned to its original black velvet.Oh, Moons of Mercy, Moons of Light

Kayito felt as though he were being judged by the Pegasus. Its glare spoke volumes alone. "I am Kayito of the Dark Eye....thats my Clan..the Dark Eye i mean."

The woman seemed non-plussed with his response, it was hard for Kayito to destinguish if the woman was interested in the converstaion or not. " Tell me...are you on a journey of sorts or simply travelling through?"

Jim looked about, being a Marshal was fun, but all of this lonely travel had him talking to himself. "Another boring day, does anything happen in my post?" Jim Raynor said, spotting a few people talking, one had a pegasus. "Alright, finally something to do already." Maiuna opened her mouth as though to reply, but snapped it shut quickly. She drew her sword in one swift motion, and spun. She heard the steady plodding of a horse. She narrowed her eyes and locked onto the figure moving in through the mottled firelight and night.

She raised her sword, and stood there, easily balanced on the balls of her feet. She rocked back and forth easily, keeping her balance even. Her Tourquise eyes shone in the firelight, and the sword's Mirror shine caught and held the flames.

"Who goes there? I warn you...answer or suffer the fate I deal." she called, her tenor voice carrying clear.Oh, Moons of Mercy, Moons of Light

Commotion! Kendi heard Maiuna's voice ring through the forest. Nimbly, the human girl twirled about the branches until she hung upside down over the ground, looking down at a solitary fox.

Seek out the voice and relay me the vision! She told the fox. He nodded in understanding and snuffled his way through the undergrowth to the firelight and the night's disturbers."Faithless is he who says farewell when the road darkens." -- Gimli, The Fellowship Of The Ring

(( OOC: sorry for the long post, but I'd like to join this thread to develop a new character. See you in Neraka. ;) ))

Faenthalas slipped from the alleyway quietly, gathering his ebony cloak around him as he let the shadows envelop him. He peered intently into the dim light radiating from a sputtering street lamp above the door of The Drunken Maiden, a popular brothel on the eastern edge of Neraka. His prey would have to come out soon, and the half-elf smiled, rubbing the familiar leather grip on his stilletto. He hoped his Lordship would enjoy his night at the brothel, for it would be his last.

A few of the local "Guardsmen" shuffled by, then scrambled out of the alley, heads bowed in fear and respect when they saw who sat in the shadows. Faen was a competent mage and a master assassin, a high-ranking member of the Ebony Shroud, a prominent Assassins Guild in the heart of dark Neraka. Few were his equal in combat, and none he had been hired to kill had ever survived. Faen had come to be proud of this fact, and smiled as his notoriety grew. Every being in Neraka; human, Draconian, hobgoblin, or Dwarf knew that to cross the Nightblade, as he was know, was to welcome certain death. Well, every being except one.

Faen spit in disgust as he thought about Hugold the Dark, a rival assassin who had recently stolen a lucrative job in Kalaman on him. Worse yet, the damned human had botched the job, leaving one of his marks alive and breathing to identify the would-be killer. The task was to exterminate the entire family, yet Hugold had messed it up, leaving one young nobleman alive and almost getting Faen himself captured. The half-elf clenched his fist in rage as he thought about it, and remembered the Shrouds penalty for violence toward a fellow practitioner. So be it, Hugolds death was beyond his grasp.

The assassin looked up quickly as the back door swung open, and the Lord Treasurer of Neraka stumbled drunkenly into the back alley, clenching the hand of a slatternly barmaid. Faen waited until the two got closer.......closer........closer.........now! The half-elf leapt from his darkened hiding place, his longsword flashing out like the tongue of a striking serpent. The barmaid bolted toward the street as His Lordship slumped to the ground, his windpipe severed, and Faenthalas casually whipped a dagger after her, watching as she stiffened a moment, then fell to the cracked ground.

Perfect. As always.

Faen retrieved his dagger and went to leave, when he noticed a tattered piece of parchment on the wall of the alleyway. Reading it quickly, he grinned coldly. Apparently the Noble family in Kalaman had put a bounty on the head of Hugold the Dark, and a sizeable one at that. Bounty hunters all over Ansalon will be after the failed assassin. Faen rocked back on his heels, thinking out loud.

" By Guild law, I realize I am denied the right to kill Hugold, but," the assassin wiped the blood from his dagger in a quick, decisive moment " the guild says nothing about aiding a bounty hunter in the capture of my.... unlucky acquaintance." Faen chuckled grimly a moment, then, sheathing his sword, sped off into the shadows.

He had work to do.

*Elsewhere in Neraka*

Hugold the Dark slumped into the plush chair. He pulled his hair back and fastened the thong to keep it in place at the nape of his neck. His plannings had gone awry and that idiot, Faen had lived. If he could have just offed him, he would have, but that would have blown his cover.

The slender human had once been, and still was, High Seat Savok. Savok still made appearances in public when it was fitting, but most of the time, this entity was Hugold. Entity, it was funny to think of himself like that. When he was first born, he had been Black Claw, a lizardman shaman. Then, after a run-in with that accursed telepath, Cai'de, and her dragon-friend, Kalia, the Claw had to transfer his essence into an amulet.

He had used the amulet to escape, first taking over the telepath, and then moving from one person to another, until he settled on High Seat Savok. Savok had been easy to dominate, and the Claw had wiped him out almost immediatly. Sure, there was still a little shred of Savok running around in the corner of his head, but it was the Claw's body now.

The Claw had made the personality of Hugold to get into the guild. It was easy, even if he had to use a human body to do it. Now he was in high confidence of the guildmasters, and "knowing" High Seat Savok had helped him rise.

Hugold/Savok/Claw rose from his seat. He was hungry, and he sent one of his servants down to the kitchens to fetch his meal. Well, there would be other chances to get Faen, and he would be ready."Are you trying to make me look stupid in front of the other guests?"
"You don't need any help from me, sir."
"That's right." - Clue

Kayito reacted along with Maiuna, he gripped his staff and jumped to his feet. In his other hand, he formed a shard of shadow crystal with edges as fine as blades, making ready to let it fly at what ever was about to emerge.

He came and stood beside Maiuna, then realising that her companion didn't approve he side stepped a few paces. He didn't want a heated Pegasus to deal with as well.'From earth to sky, from leaves to roots,

Maiuna uttered a small cry and spun around, ignoring the group and gripped Koale tightly. "I was hired to kill that girl's brother...no more, no less...But I botched the job, the only screwup I had ever done...By mistake, and being at the wrong place at the wrong time...I killed her sister... My Bounty was to kill the man, the man who in turn had killed his parents...and was rumered to kill again...." Maiuna paused, her breath short...her voice seemed clouded with memory. She continued, her back still towards them.

"When I botched the job, I tried to find my true target...but the Riot in Solamnia...was caused by him, to cause enough of a distraction to cover his escape...I never did find him." She turned away, and walked closer to the group, her blue eyes icy once more.

"So if you wish to collect the bounty on a bounty hunter who screwed up...then be my guest...You do out-number me, three to one..." She said, her blue eyes boring into the girl's, daring her.Oh, Moons of Mercy, Moons of Light

Simon watched from the shadows. He had to mentaly check himself from laughing. The whole scene was too Funny. A group of complete strangers meeting in the middle of no were. But then he remembered that he just happened to be there himself. But unlike every one else no one knew he was there. Being a kagonesti did have its advatages, and the black robes didn't hurt to much either. His pure white eyes took in everything. He needed no light to see. There were people he needed to talk to in this little bad and then there were people he wished to avoid.

He stood there proped against a tree watching everything that played out. It was a wonder no one had killed anybody yet. they were all so damned suspicious of each other and jumpy. But then he could see why with the bounty hunter, but the others were a mystery.

Simon felt that it was time to make conact of his own. he sent a telepathic message to the winged horse. "Hello my friend. You don't know me. But i know of you. I need to speak with your friend the bounty hunter alone when ever the time is right. but please come with you two alone. i wish that my presence remain unknown."

Kayito looked at the odd group...he was confused, the pinned woman was in reality a girl, he felt his checks burn somewhat with embarrassment for attacking a young child. "I am sorry, but i thought you were a threat..of sorts....but..please accept my apologies." He waved a hand and the shards vanished in a puff of smoke.

Looking at Maiuna"But your wrong about that Maiuna...it would be against two...i may not know you, however, i have seen enough corrupted hearts to know where evil lurks in them...you are not one of those" He turned two the others and spoke clearly "If any of you wish to take Maiuna, you will have to take me on first and believe me...those shards are the least of what i am capable of."

Kayito looked at the girl, her eyes were full of pain and anger. He could understand such pain...but for some reasin he was compelled to protect Maiuna....but why he had only just met her. The only thing he knew about her was her name...well that and her travelling companion was a winged, horned Pegasus.'From earth to sky, from leaves to roots,

Jim looked even more confused, a small child and he was about to shoot her... oh well, it happens. "Okay, nobody move, newguy, nobody's going to leave here until this is sorted out. How many people have you killed?" He said looking toward Maiuna.

"Why are you attacking a bount hunter at twelve?" Jim said to the girl.

"Why'd you let her up if she kicked you? Come on man, at least make her apologize!" Jim said laughing to Kayito, then thinking who to put the extra crossbow to, then just putting it away, and getting a set of extra bolts out with his free hand and aiming at Maiuna, "Most importantly, who paid you and for what reason?" Jim said in a dead calm. "I used a level 3 fire spell set to volcanic to cook the turkey, it took 10 second, it was only alive for the first 3" Black Mage, 8-bit theatre.

"Easy Jim." Javert said. "I know of the bounty on Maiuna, and most of the circumstances of it. I've also had some of the same, ... miscomunication problems before." Putting his hand on the crossbow, he eased it down. Then, in a low undertone, he wispered to Jim. "There are times when it is better to travel with a bounty and then capture him, than to arrest him right away."

In a loader voice, he called. "I know of the confidences in arranging a hit, and you do not need to tell us who hired you. And Jim, about bounty hunters. They can normally get more money by bringing their targets in alive than dead. Sometimes, circumstancs dictate otherwise. Now, as to you, young lady, I suggest you calm down. Maiuna turned, and shook her head wearily. "I cannot tell you who paid me...the person always Signed the letters..."The Claw"... I was paid in advance...to kill That man for the murder charge of his parents. When I botched the job, I started to see posters up for my Bounty...The bounty was the exact ammount that I was paid in advance..I Don't know who the guy was...He's been sending me hits for years now."

(OOC: Maiuna is around 27 or so.))

Maiuna paused and glanced at Koale, who in turn bobbed his head. "I've been a bounty hunter since I was Her age" she said pointing to the girl. "I was at first a sword for hire to whomever would take me...Then as my skills increased, I became a bounty hunter...specifically specializing in Assasination." She stopped and returned the sudden hard stares.

"Hey...Times are hard...and things are even harder for a girl who was orphaned at the age of ten. I have no family...no one to be dissapointed or proud...What I do, I do to survive...there are some hits that I don't choose to take...some hits are just too Wrong...when that happens, I leave the note and the Money purse where they where left...for the next less conciencious hunter that bumbles along." Maiuna raged, her blue eyes dark. She sighed, and her shoulders sagged.

"My reputation as the "Black Rose" has preceeded me far...I have worked hard at what I do...and for the most part...my hits have been justified..." She said.

"and if any of you recognize the Name...You know that I would normally have plenty of tricks up my sleeve...But I am no coward...for instance...You...Jim, Take care not to take one step back and two to your right...if you do...you'll have found one of four traps surrounding my camp." She smirked, and pointed to a hidden trench, twelve feet deep, and four feet across. "If you would've fallen in there, you'd probably survive...but not for long. The other three traps are twenty feet in each opposite direction. But I warn you...take care...each one is different...and if anything cuts you...see me immediatly...or you won't see the sunrise."

Faen turned down an alleyway, slipping into the darkness as he heard the laughter of a group of draconians behind him. Holding his breath, the half-elf listened to the draconians as they spoke, swearing loudly and boasting of their deeds in slurred voices. Drunk, the assassin thought, perfect. That meant they were'nt after me at least.

Faenthalas strode into the dark with purpose, his mind seething in anger as he thought about the night's precedings. He had been to the guildhouse to collect his pay just after his last job last night, and had spokien once more to the Shadow Council about Hugold. Their answer had been the same as it was the countless times before.

" Guild law states that no quarrel between any of the brethren shall, in any circumstance, be settled by blood. Your dispute with Hugold is not to be settled by battle, Faenthalas. You would do well to forget it."

Well I can't forget it, Faen thought heatedly, it was treachery of the highest degree, and the damned human rat must pay! Briefly, the half-elf thought on his ally-turned-nemesis. He couldn't for the life of him figure out what had taken over the human assassin's personality. Though he had never been a good friend, indeed Faen had never had anyone he could call "friend", Hugold had been an effective partner and a skillful assassin. Now, for some reason, the man they called "The Dark" wanted his longtime ally dead, and Faen didn't know why.

Rounding a corner, the assassin stopped quickly and stepped into a decrepit doorway, looking across the street, lit only by a sputtering lantern. Yes there was the mages shop, right where his contact had said it would be. Faen slipped from shadow to shadow, seeming to become one with the darkness as he circled around to the back door of the wooden building. He had made up his mind; if his suspicions were right, Hugold was, for some unfathomable reason, trying to have him killed, and since Faen was forbidden to kill him, he would have to contact a willing bounty hunter to do it for him. He knew that the spell needed to contact a mercenary over so many miles was beyond his power, but the mage who owned this shop could do it, for a price.

Faen loosened his longsword, and his money pouch, and reached to open the rotted door..................

((OOC: Thorn, I was hoping that your character was after killing off Hugold and taking his form, and was now after my character for some unknown reason. Black Rose...

Hit in Solamnia...
Target: Rouni Uth Gertuare

reports are that the afforementioned Target killed his parents, and plans to kill again, information sources are confidential...but Reliable...

Compensation...10,000 Steel

Other Information: Target has a two sisters...A twin, Kaleane, and Younger Kendi...Only eliminate if no other option.

Maiuna sighed as she reread the parchment...Her hand shook as she held it. "I didn't mean to hurt anyone else...I didn't want it to be this way...I was hired for a clean hit...in, out...finished...my life would go on...but I botched it....and practically have thrown my life out with it." she sighed, and bit into a piece of relitively fresh bread...and watched Kendi closely.

OOC: Dogar, although your idea is good, it would disrupt older posts. What's relly going on is that the amulet that Hugold is wearing has the essence of the Black Claw in it. When the assassin donned it, Claw took over his body. He is very much alive but his essence is crammed in a tiny nich in his brain. His brain (and therefor his actions) are dominated by Claw. Since there don't share thoughts, Claw assumes he must kill all contacts that Hugold has. Hope that helps. "Are you trying to make me look stupid in front of the other guests?"

Each dream was the same; Ronui was after her.

But he couldn't be . . . he was Kendi's brother.

But as she woke each time, she knew, somehow she knew.

She was still confused. What happened to that perfect family? She had been quite young, too young to remember everything but the hazy afterthoughs of ambiance, in which it was bright and warm and happy. No threat of death or betrayal, no hint of danger.

She curled up and attempted sleep again, and eventually found it, wondering what the morrow's adventures would bring."Faithless is he who says farewell when the road darkens." -- Gimli, The Fellowship Of The Ring
