"I'm Slyknife Windslayer if any of you forgot. I come from a minotaur encampment on the plains of dust, they kicked me out for saying 'moo' too much at them. So I wandered around for a while and went to Thorbardin and I'm back!" Slyknife said picking up rocks with the net on his hoopak. "A magic-user?" the old man peered around. "Where?"

The kender cleric ponders this for a moment...entertaining thoughts of a deep discussion about the psychology of Minoutars, then gets bored.
"Tolk! You got a holy artifact too?" he says, his thoughts finally catching up with his ears. "How'd you get ol' Fiz to bless a Shiskabob? "I'm Kylie Tusslemop, treasure-seeker extraordinaire," Kylie said proudly. For a kender, she was certainly beautiful - her long golden brown topknot hung to her waist, every hair in place, tied with a leather thong and decorated with beautiful swan's feathers. She was unusually tall for a kender, the height and build of a small human woman - she had some human blood in her background, and she was proud to display it. Beautiful azure blue eyes were framed by dark eyelashes, and contrasted sharply with her golden tanned skin. Unlike most kender, her clothes matched - she wore a tight, low cut, dark blue tunic and form-fitting doeskin leggings. Her boots were of the finest leather, pale brown and fringed in the style of the Plainsmen. Two bangle bracelets made of reddish-tinged gold tightly circled each of her wrists.

The other kender ooh-ed and aahhh-ed over her marvellous jewelry and swan's feathers. She planted both hands on her hips, legs spread to shoulder-width, and struck a heroic stance.

"Who wants to accompany me on my excursion into the deepest, most exciting depths of Thorbardin? Who is man - i mean kender - enough to search for treasure in the most dangerous caves? Who is brave enough to face the most fearsome of monsters ever....the Trog?"

Slyknife smiled, an attractive kender indeed. His sky blue eyes glittered at the thought of adventureing, again. "My Kris and I will go", Slyknife pulled out his knife and slipped on his hoopak falling on the blade of the knife. Slyknife stood up pulled the Kris out of his stoumach to reveal no wound. The blade looked like the handel was obsidian and the blade itself was stitched in shadow. his hand and him passed through the blade.
"Hope I didn't startle you, this thing likes me, so it won't hurt me. I think it might be enchanted, but I can't tell and I never can remember to ask someone about it. What's a Trog by the way, I have never seen a Trog, I'd like to see one someday. I love going to caves too. I'll go!" Slyknife said with a grin, his black hais in a topknot like all kender. His eyes as black as the knife he held. Wearing a grey robe over small leather armor and a blue cobalt belt with pouchis dangling all about. Slightly attractive for a kender, though pure kender, no other blood in him. More of a wandering friend than a hero. Slyknife picked up his hoopak and put it in a sheath on his traveling pack he wore. "So who will lead the expedition? I can't I'm not a very good leader...""A magic-user?" the old man peered around. "Where?"
Tas whispered something, poking the old man.

Pep Downfeather laddled into the packed room full of feather kenders. He was stout, a bit round at the belly. Pep's clothes were nondescript aside from his magenta doe-skinned leggings and his black gloves and stream-lined black tunic. In his eyes danced adventure and the love of life, but the expression worn on his face was dour and dull. He wasn't as carefree as most kenders went by (most think his mother didn't drop him on his head enough as a child) and he usually stood out as the sore thumb that was smacked by a stray pan. The most amazing thing about him was the curling way his black-haired topknot seemed to curl down his back.

"I'm up for a bit o' adventure!" he boomed excitedly, though the excitement didn't seem to touch his face, and the rest of those congregated tried to avoid him. "Well, no matter if ya don't want me along, I'm gonna tag along. My Auntie Doorstopper always said to push push push your way along to get some of the goodies (Pep was the 13th child and the youngest) or ya never git a morsel. Yep true enough, soo....where ever are we off to? To see some Dwarvies? Hrmph many people say I look and act like a dwarf, but I don't want any spirits, so they are so wrong.

Pep got a sudden perplexed look, and thumbed his fingers into his thick leather belt, where two matching daggers peeked out to the sides. Rocking on the balls of his feet, he look to the extraordinarily tall kender girl to the rest of the group, waiting to get some attention...no matter how long it took.

Slyknife
11/27/2001 4:15 PM

Slyknife looked at Pep, smiling he said "Listen Pep, I wouldn't mind your company but know that this is a treasure hunt, I've never seen any treasure, but I'd like to... I would also like to see a black dragon and maybe a pool of stew, and.... what was I walking about? Oh yeah. the treasure, we plan to split it evenly right guys?""A magic-user?" the old man peered around. "Where?"
Tas whispered something, poking the old man.
"Really? Me?" He said. "You don't say! How remarkable. now you know, come to think of it, I do seem to remember a spell... Fireball. How did it go?"

Tolkanin's eyes flashed happily at Ghostbuster's question; "That's the thing! It won't poke through any meat!" She poked Ghostbuster with it, and though he can see that the end is very sharp, it doesn't hurt and it doesn't leave a wound. "It makes lovely veggie shiskabobs, though! Remind me sometime and I'll make you one!"
She turned to Kylie. "Yeah, what is a Trog? Is it very big? It can't be too big, though, because it lives in the caves, right? Or maybe it lives in the forests near the caves. Wow, imagine! What if it were a giant worm? I mean HUGE . . bigger than us and humans and even elves . . .what if it were up to the trees, and miles long! And it would probably eat meat too, right? It'd have a huge mouth and lots of teeth . . . . wow . . ." Tolk becomes lost in though.

Kylie crossed her arms and tried to look stern and heroic. “I’m going to lead the, expedition, of course. My great great great grand uncle on my mother’s aunt’s side was Kronin Thistleknot, one of the greatest kender heroes of all time.” Kylie made a show of looking over the map of Thorbardin with an expert eye and rolling it, placing it safely in one of her many pouches. “And to answer your question, Slyknife, a Trog is a cross of a troll and a goblin. They’re ten feet tall, with green skin and huge, sharp teeth, and they’re a hundred times smarter that the smartest human. And they can regrow severed limbs as soon as you chop them off. You can only kill them with a magical hoopak.”

The congregated kender ooh-ed and ahh-ed again. “So what are we waiting for, my fellow kender?” Kylie asked, rallying the kender. “Let’s go to Thorbardin and slay the Trog!”

“Yay!” cried the kender.

“Then we’ll go to Palanthas and wipe out the Thieves Guild!” Kylie shouted.

“Yay!” the kender cried again.

“And then we’ll go and toilet-paper the trees of Silvanesti!” she shouted.

The kender looked at each other questioningly. One little kender shouted out, “Yay!”

“Are you with me, fellow kender?” shouted Kylie, waving her hoopak over her head. “Let’s show the world that we’re a heroic force to be reckoned with! Wherever evil doth lay its filthy boots, we will mop the floor with its buttocks!”

“YAY!” came the resounding cry from the kender.

11/28/2001 8:54 AM

Pep's eyes bulged as he heard about Trogs, Cogs, Logs, Frogs, and whatchimacogits. He was entranced by Kylie's go get 'em speech and even found his own tiny digits pumping the air as he felt apart of the group, no matter that he stood in a corner by his self, since the others for some odd reason didn't want to be too close to him.

Shrugging, Pep did a little jig to look for any magical hoopaks that could be laying about, since he must have forgotten his on that last turn to the inn. He scratched his head in perplexity, and sniffed around the floor and suddenly bumped into tight blue tunic that had been sitting ontop of that large kender girl.

"Opps pardon me miss-s," Pep stammered for he had never been in the company of someone of direct descent of Kronin! "Errr, awfully tall you are, did you happen to get stretched out like taffy by some goblins. Or-r maybe a horde of rampant gnomes used a roller machine and rolled ya out to make you bigger." Pep bumbled on and on, on different directions till Kylie cuffed him in both his ears smartly!

"Silly half-knob, I got mixed blood-" she was about to go on more indepth when she was assualted by the crowd of kenders, asking and prying into learning more and to get ready to go on their grand adventure, as Pep was pushed to the outter fringes of the group to land on his doe-skinned bottom. He huffed and patted the dust off his curling black top-knot and bounced off giving the crowd the equivelent of a kender-glare, and waddled off to get his special 'equipment' for the long trek ahead, even if he wasn't wanted, he was gonna go. So there!

Pep crosses his arms, bopped his head and whisked away to tell his mom and pop he was finally invited to an adventure...well kinda invited, but those details could be left out. Grinning to his self he ran home.

Slyknife noticed a small mob of kender and wondered what was in it, so he climbed up a nearby tree to see Kylie in the center talking about things on her adventure. After getting bored not being able to hear Slyknife looked around the tree and saw an apple. Leaning to get it Slyknife fell off the tree shook his head and said. "Might as well spear it!" And Slyknife threw his steel pointed hoopak and it struck the apple in the center and came falling down next to him. "Lunch!" Slyknife exclaimed"A magic-user?" the old man peered around. "Where?"
Tas whispered something, poking the old man.
"Really? Me?" He said. "You don't say! How remarkable. now you know, come to think of it, I do seem to remember a spell... Fireball. How did it go?"

Kylie crossed her arms and smiled. That kid Pep has potential, she thought to herself. He just needs to be smacked around a bit to toughen him up. And he needed to lose a bit of that gut he had. Who’d ever heard of a fat kender? Well, she’d work him so hard that he’d get muscles like a minotaur.

“Hey kid, c’mere,” she said, jerking her chin at him. Pep waddled over to her. “You’re gonna be my sidekick.”

“Sidekick? Really?” Pep asked excitedly, jumping up and down, his topknot bouncing and his dwarvish gut jiggling. His smile faded to a look of perplexity. “What’s a sidekick? Does that mean if you fall down I can kick you in the side? Not that I want you to fall down or anything, and I certainly don’t want to kick you, but I bet it could be fun, if you weren’t the one I was kicking, that is-”

Kylie held up her hand for silence and rolled her eyes. “You don’t know what a sidekick is? Every great hero has a sidekick! Its someone that....who....its kind of......well, its a very important person, that’s what, and every hero has one. And you’re it!”

Kylie rummaged around in her pouches and came up with a long, orange velvet stocking cap with a bright purple yarn tassle and plopped it on Pep’s head. She dug through another pouch and took out a gaudy necklace made of seashells and glass beads. “These are your Official Sidekick Accoutrements. You must wear them at all times so that people know that you’re my sidekick. Ok, now the rules. Rule number 1 - you always listen to me. Rule number 2 - you always agree with me. Rule number 3 - if we get attacked by a dragon or a trog or a troll or something, you have to jump in front of me so that it doesn’t kill me.”

Pep saluted, the stocking cap covering his eyes and the tassel dragging the ground behind him. “Yes sir! I mean, yes ma’am!”

Kylie waved over Tolk and Slyknife. “You two are my official bodyguards. You get to beat people up that threaten me.”

She pointed at Ghostbuster. “You’re my official Paladin of the Realm. You get to march around and look important and get to have people tell you how cool you look. Oh, and you can heal people if they get hurt.” Kylie turned to the other kender. “Is everyone ready to go?”

“We’re going to the general store first,” said Kylie, twirling her hoopak in a dazzling display. “Then we’ll start our trip. Let’s go!”

The kender made their way to the store, twirling their hoopaks and whistling a cheerful tune. The owner of the store, a rotund human man with sagging jowls and beady eyes, quickly locked the door to the store and stuck a large “Closed” sign on the glass.

“Well now, its only just past noon, so they just can’t be closed yet!” Kylie said, putting her nose to the glass and peering through the window. “The shopkeeper must have meant to put up his “Open” sign and flipped it the wrong way around. We’ll just fix that for him when we get inside.” Kylie tried the door handle, but found it was locked. “Oh dear. Well, he couldn’t have meant to do that. I’m sure its broken. I’ll just fix it for him...” And with that, Kylie pulled a bit of wire out of a pouch. Within a matter of seconds, she had picked the lock and opened the door. The large group of kender waltzed into the store.

“Fool kender!” the storekeeper shouted. “Can’t you see we’re closed?”

“Closed?” Kylie asked, an innocent smile on her face. “I think you made a mistake. Its only just past midday. You’re open.”

The storekeeper was seething with anger, and his pudgy face was turning an ugly and mottled red. “If you don’t get out now, I’ll call the town guard!”

“Here now!” Kylie admonished. “There’s no need to bother those fine gentlemen. They have better things to do than chase kender out of a store. Don’t look at me that way, as if I was a common thief!” Kylie turned up her nose at the thought. “We’re paying in hard steel.” She reached into a pouch and pulled out a handful of steel coins.

“Go on fellows, gather the provisions we’ll need,” Kylie said. The kender began to run pell-mell through the store, gathering up food, ale, and any other useless item they could get their hands on, occasionally tripping or knocking each other over. Within moments, the store was in a shambles.

“Here you go, my good man,” Kylie said, handing the storekeeper a stack of steel coins. “That should cover our bill.”

“Ha! Not nearly-” the storekeeper started.

“Thank you, and have a good day, sir,” Kylie said, cutting him off. “We’re off, fellow kender!”

Somewhere in the woods around Kendermore, Silverflare was sleeping. Being only a 100 feet he wasn't large for a silver dragon. But to most regular folk he was still an impressive sight.

He slowly woke up, looking around him. He was hungry, so he leaped up in search for some food. In the corner of his eye he could see Kendermore, but his attention was on a clearing with some wild cattle. Swooping down he manages to grab a cow. Carrying the cow back to the place where he was sleeping he sets down, and started on the cow. Wonder if I meat new people today, he thought. He always liked to meet new people of many races. Allthough some were scared of him.

OOC: *looks at thread name* Why is a human shopkeeper in Kendermore?

Becuase he's desprate as hell?
Ghostbuster giggles. That shopkeeper was so nice...and he had very good boots, he thinks as he lifts up his feet to admire them.
"So, Fearless leader? Isn't Thoarbardin that'away?" he asks, pointing in a random direction, just to seem knowledgeble.

"Hey! Did you know that Krynn is round, so that any way you go you'll probably end up there anyway?" Tolk says to Ghostbuster (or anyone who's listening). She's wearing a chainmail cloak that's so heavy she needs to lean on her hoopak just to stay up. "Look what the inkeeper gave me!" She said, indicating the cloak. "That way no one can ever back-stab me!" She starts to skip off in the direction Ghostbuster had mentioned, however trips under the weight of her new cloak and lays on the dusty road. "Actually, it's a little to heavy for my taste." She says, taking it off. "And about these boots, why do they have wings, will they try to run away at night?" Slyknife then jumped and hovered for a few seconds, then dropped like a ton of bricks. "A magic-user?" the old man peered around. "Where?"

Pep had the shopkeeper sized up and in the corner of the store. The round man stared at Pep, with a strange expression on his face. For here was before him a kender, but not a kender as the kender went. He watched in silent distress as the rest of the little villians ran about and lay waste to his store. One would ask why ever would he set up shop in Kendermore? Because one, he was desperate, and two when they weren’t plucking him clean of wares, they did spend a fair amount of steel in his fair shop. He was used to kender but not this one.

The shopkeeper looked at the kender, he certainly was dressed like one with that long orange velvet stocking cap with a bright purple tassle, as it swung back and forth between his eyes. Some odd hodgepodge of shells and beads about his neck, was also normal for a kender. And the strangest, and he thought, THE strangest thing was the twirling black top-knot he had as it twisted long down his back. But the round man focused on the twin daggers with their lethal edges that poked out under his belt that sat on a generous stomach. The kender rocked back and forth on the balls of his feet, with a very serious and dull expression splashed over his face.

“Don’t you go causin’ no troubles, sir,” said the kender as he stepped protectively in front of a stunningly beautiful kender girl (well beautiful for a kender). The kender noticed his eyes, and spoke up again as he thumbed at his self. “Sidekick, you back off.” The shopkeeper rubbed his eyes and swiped beads of sweat off his face. The round man sneered at the kender, only to have a dagger pointed at him nonchalantly.

Eventually all of the little vermin filed out of the shop at the say of the large pretty kender, and the shopkeeper was left to the Mid-Sized Cataclysm that was left of his shop. He perked up and opened the bag of steel, strangely enough it was a hefty sum, of course never enough for this mess! He snorted, and his only consolation was that it seemed the strange kender was sad, almost as if he felt he was out of place with the large pretty kender and the lot of them. The shop keeper snickered, and looked at the mess and caught sight of a little fold of paper. It read: “Pep Downfeather, Will Adventure for Steel! (If you’d have me).” He shook his head once more and turned in time to see a silver flash wizz past his shop door. Unfortunatly that is all he saw, due to a tin pot fell off the top cabinet and bopped him into a sweet slumber.
