I will let each of you travel by whatever means you deem most appropriate, but note that you will actually have to climb the stair. Reach it, and I will post from there. All of you will reach the top at the same time. Anything you create of the world at this point will be plunged into Darkness. The Sun has been blotted out, and Talios has been using his magic to light battlefields so the war can continue. Everywhere there is either battle, recovering from battle, or death. it is truly the last hour.

Please do post your characters here for approval before you run to the stair though. Otherwise the climb might kill you.

Write your own little piece of this world, or come charging off a battlefield. It's up to you.

06/12/2007 4:58 PM

As Max said he wouldn't be posting for a while I'll keep working on my character a little, but it'll almost definitely be Duskblade (near enough the max 20 lvls) and elven.

06/12/2007 5:23 PM

My family is coming up sooner than I realized (tomorrow, which means I have work that must be done...sigh) so I will probably be able to get the character up sooner.

Nanuk, you asked a question concerning a rogue in the interest thread, and my initial thought would be that it won't be a problem, considering the fact that this seems to be much more adventure than dungeoneering, what with us going to the Dragon's Graveyard and all that jazz.

OldNobleWolf would be the one to settle that, though. It is his concept, after all.

06/12/2007 5:38 PM

Darn tootin'.

I figured that he would have noticed the lack if it was going to become a problem- but wanted to be certain in case he was an evil DM ;)

Oh, and you mentioned something in the other thread about waiting to see what I was going to do with my char before you finalised yours: I thought you'd picked classes already?

06/12/2007 6:09 PM

Well, I have the Storm Giant and the Celestial Gnome pretty much finished, but the other characters I can tweak more.

It's more of an "I have to wait to see what you do to see which character I pick" type of deal. lol

06/12/2007 8:08 PM

We don't HAVE to have a rogue, but one is nice. It will make some things easier (finding hidden paths and the like) but most of the things a rogue can do can be mirrored with magic.

So human, and elf are taken, Half Storm Giant or gnome might be taken and I'm playing a half-dragon.

So far I have a massive human shield, a cleric sorc and a duskblade/? in the works.

06/12/2007 10:50 PM

Rangers also have a lot of the same skill-sets as Rogues. And they have high enough skill points to cross-class for things that they don't have. You can also go from Rogue to something like Arcane Archer and from there into any number of cool PrCs. Although straight 20 level Ranger, 10 level Arcane Archer, say. . 10 level Druid -- would be an incredibly powerful character. Just a thought, if you were looking for ideas.

A Storm Giant, by the way, would make a great Ranger, and an even better Druid. The only problem with Storm Giants, in case you hadn't considered it, is that they have 19 HD. Which means you could only add 21 class levels to make a 40th level character. In the long run, at least in the actual game using dice and the rules as written, high EL races are worthless at high levels because class abilities and the like are usually better than the racial abilities and scores of high-EL races.

~takes a breath~

Whew. But I doubt Wolf really cares all that much, or will penalize you as much as you would be in a tabletop game. Just figured I'd throw it out there to chew on. But I still say a Storm Giant druid would be pretty scary. I'm pretty sure you could Wildshape into something like a friggin' Tarrasque.

06/12/2007 10:57 PM

I wanna join! i.i Can I be the psycho hack and slasher? I mean, the manic warrior?

06/13/2007 6:17 AM

Well, he is only half-storm giant. If you want the full storyline, ask Nanuk to forward you the mail I sent her. I based it off of the same way they made the Half-Giant Psionic Race, but he isn't psionic, and is larger and better than the normal Half-Giant (Half-Giants being based off of Fire Giants, I believe, or maybe Hill Giants). As a result, I tripled his Level Adjustment (from +1 to +3) but if the our GM would like I can increase it to 4.

06/13/2007 6:22 AM

I figured I should repost this here in case someone else wanted to join.

The Items of Worldly Might were entrusted to some of the greatest dragons of all time, but alas, all but one of them has swallowed its hoard and traveled to the Dragon Graveyard. Now a great evil threatens the world and the greatest heroes of every land have been called to the lair of the last and oldest of the great dragons. Talios the ancient gold dragon will offer these heroes the chance to be the first members of the material plane to stand in the resting place of these mystical beasts and, hopefully, live to tell about it. Scattered among the ruins are items so powerful they could change the course of history, but Tiamut's evil aspects have managed to acquire some of the items, and others are protected by some of the greatest and ancient magic every seen by dragon and man alike. What will they find among the ruins of this ancient place? What horrible adversaries await them? Will they ever make it out alive?

There's the general gist of the whole thing. Sorry if it's a little over dramatic. In tabletop I had these characters listed as 40th level, so it's really meant for some high powered stuff, but still has to stay within the realm of plausibility. People may die, but hopefully there will be a cleric around when you need one. The game naturally limits itself to a small group (6 at the max most likely), and no more than one character of each Race.

Available Races would be Human, Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, and Hobbit/Halfling/Kender. I might consider some other races in place of these, or in adition to them, but you'll have to make a good argument.

I would be playing Zaon, the youngest son of Talios. If there's enough interest I'll put up a full bio type thing on him.

Okay, I'm bored and have nothing better to do, so I'm editing in what I expect for character sheet type stuff.

Name: obviously

Age: won't be young. Remember these guys are EPIC!

Class(es):Cross-Class/Prestige class anything you can point me to or explain.

Race: Remember, one a member of a race is approved, it can't be duplicated.

Discription: hopefully this is a no brainer.

Brief bio: This should mostly be what Talios would know from stories of you, not an indepth childhood story. If any of you know each other, It won't be very well. You can add in exceptionally importain details here if you wish though.

Signature Item: Something that has been with your character for a really long time. don't forget to include it's properties.

Other items of note: Things that I just might want to know about, you know, like the miniture dragon in your pocket that breathes fireballs.

Feel free to include more information if you like. More is always good.

Rath, look at the RP interet thread and see if you wanna play. Work up a caracter and I'll let you know from there.

I was thinking 2, but if you want to sacrifice three levels I'll let you.

06/14/2007 1:26 AM

Well, since I assume you approved my character in the Interest thread, I went ahead with a ridiculously-lengthy first post. Figured it was best to put in as much background as I could get to get things rolling.

06/14/2007 5:22 AM

Perfectly constructed, though I was going to post the stair myself, I guess you can each post your own journey. It makes things easier for me. The Stair will be different for everyone though, so wile his journey was broken and cragy, someone elses might be like climbing the shear rock walls, or a trip up an actual staircase littered with bones or anything else ou can come up with. The whole point is your supposed to WANT to give up by the time you reach the top.

06/14/2007 8:59 AM

I should have the character sheet up later- internet was out for a while so there's a few things I need to check before posting.

I mean, the manic warrior?

We have a few fighter types already:

my char is primarily a Duskblade so they have only limited magic, and progress only a little slower than fighters- which I also have a good few levels of: Damo's character is a Cavalier and Max (last time I checked) was going for a cleric/monk so maybe a magic user/roguey type etc might work better?

06/14/2007 9:40 AM

maybe a magic user/roguey type etc might work better?

You can never have enough destructive berserkers. I was going for a HeavyBlade. One of those guys with a huge sword that's like 3 feet wide and 10 inches thick. Heavy armor, big muscles, work primarily with their own force rather than magic or skills like agility.

06/14/2007 10:15 AM

Have you ever played Pen & Papar D&D? Heavy blade is most certainly not a class I've ever heard of. And a weapon like that in D&D is pretty much unheard of unless you also happen to be 20 ft. tall.

06/14/2007 10:38 AM

D&D is garbage. My nerdy cousin plays it, he sucks. He likes to cheat because he thinks I don't know the rules. Anyways, why play with limitations like D&D? D&D is shit to me. And if you nag me about how that rhymed I will cut you in your sleep. Peace out homeys!

06/14/2007 10:43 AM

So . . . um. . . yeah.

06/14/2007 10:48 AM

Umm... no, I wasn't. I declined because D&D is for pizzafaces, and Nanuk apparently.

06/14/2007 11:14 AM

No more sugar for you, dear boy.

Now go away and let us doddery old-timers (*cough*youincludedMax*cough) have fun with our self-imposed D&D limitations.

Make yourself useful and go hassle Iorlas to come back so you can be accepted into the SW thread :P

Muirin Starfall (mwih-rin) (Elf)
Duskblade 20/Fighter 16/Barbarian 3
Gender: Female
Age: 243
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Abilities: Str 22, Dex 20, Con 22, Wis 12, Int 21, Cha 14
Racial Traits: Low-light vision, immunity to sleep magics, +2 saving throw vs. enchantments etc.
Languages: Common, Elven, Sylvan, Goblin, some Draconic
Weapons/Armour: All Proficiencies (except heavy armour/Tower Shields- took martial weapons as a feat)

Physical Description: Muirin's long, dark hair frames eyes of a deep beryl-blue, and a face of delicate but angular features, softened only marginally by her demeanour. Lean, but tautly muscled, and just nudging 5'7, she is lithe and athletic, carrying herself with assurance and quiet dignity (heh- it's epic so we're allowed melodrama ;))

Items of note/Accoutrements:
[apologies for anything armour-related that makes you cringe, Damien-only had PHB to go with, lol. Also, quick question: can you wear pauldrons with breastplates? If not I'll change it]
Usually wears a breastplate of pale grey metal that looks strangely cold-dulled, with organic-looking tendrils etched upon it, with matching greaves and open-faced helm. On her right shoulder is a spiked pauldron, and a short skirt of dark studded leather spills from beneath the breastplate to protect her upper legs, while her undertunic and leggings are a dark night blue, matching the cloak she occasionally wears.
She bears a long sword with a basket hilt, with the same motif as her breastplate etched palely along the dual-edged blade, as well as a long-handled morning star covered in the same tracery.
Coiled at her hip is a slender but long whip, with both black handle and lash.
On an azure field an acacia branch surrounded by an annulet is blazoned on her shield.
She also wears a plain, non-magical white-gold ring on the index finger of her left hand.

Signature item: whip- see below
Uses the whip primarily in conjunction with her arcane chanelling ability to reach otherwise inaccessible adversaries.

Spontaneous spellcasting: Duskblades cast their known spells like a sorcerer, calling upon whichever one they need without having to prepare from a spell book (although, like a wizard, intelligence is the governing ability). There are only five spell levels available, and from quite a small list.

Known spells:
(spells with an * are from the PHB II)
0: acid splash, disrupt undead, ray of frost, touch of fatigue
1: Blade of blood*, burning hands,
chill touch, Kelgore's fire bolt*, shocking grasp,
2: Animalistic power*, dimension hop*, Melf's acid arrow, see invisibility, swift invisibility, touch of idiocy.
3: Crown of might*, crown of protection*, dispelling touch*,vampiric touch.
4: Bigby's interposing hand, channeled pyroblast*, dimension door, fire shield, phantasmal killer, toxic weapon*.
5: Bigby's clenched fist, chain lightning, polar ray, sonic shield*, waves of fatigue.

Basic spells cast per level per day are 6, 10, 10, 10, 8, and 6 for spell levels 0-5, but I'm not sure how the intelligence bonus affects that (only have the first PHB, and can't find a table inline).

Significant feats/abilities

I won't list all of them, mainly the more unusual Duskblade ones as people may not be familiar with them, and just those that are important in terms of gameplay:

Arcane Channeling: Channel arcane energy of touch spells through their weapon as a standard action, dealing both the spell affect and weapon damage with a successful hit. This improves at 13th level to permit her to attack multiple foes in a round with the same spell using a full round attack action.
Armoured mage: Can wear up to medium armour and heavy shields (excepting tower) without risk of spell failure.
Combat Casting: At 2nd level, a duskblade gains Combat Casting as a bonus feat.
Arcane Attunement: Starting at 1st level, a duskblade learns to use dancing lights, detect magic, flare, ghost sound, and read magic as spell-like abilities. Muireann can use these powers a combined total of eight times a day: they don't count against number of spells she can cast each day.
Quick Cast: By 20th level a Duskblade can cast four spells each day as a swift action.. With this, a Duskblade can still apply her full focus to combat, but still cast a spell to aid herself or an ally, or harm an enemy
Spell Power: By 20th level a Duskblade has gained a +4 bonus on caster level checks to overcome a foe's spell resistance after that foe has been struck in combat. The bonus lasts until the encounter ends.

Also Arcane Thesis and Arcane Strike

Brief Bio:
Born the second daughter of a house of considerable standing in the sprawling Sylvan city of Lithaldoren, Muirin was trained almost from birth to be a defender of her people and home: a duty she bore faithfully and without question.
When it became clear that it was not merely their land and lives that were threatened by the growing evil a number of Lithaldoren's finest were sent out for the joint purposes of aiding those they could, while preemptively bringing the fight to the darkness.
Muirin and her mate Vehiron were two of those to leave, spending a number of years travelling the land, successfully, but not without loss, aiding a number of towns and villages with an ever-shrinking band of companions.
Finally, Muirin's darkest day came, and Vehiron, too, was lost.
She threw herself into what had become her mission with a despairing rage, even in the depths of her anguish not losing hope that somehow the threat could be defeated.

Ok, this might sound really silly, but I was thinking for signature item, the whip- would it at all be feasible, do you think, for it to be made from a displacer beast's tentacle? I don't know why the idea popped into my head- I suppose the thought of epic level got me overly excited or something, lol.

The bio was lame, I know- but it's difficult to avoid cliche in D&D anyway, even before epic level, lol, and it gave me a chance to explain the barbarian levels.

And of course anything you want changed or clarified let me know- any suggestions would also be greatly appreciated!

[Edited by nanuk on Thursday, June 14, 2007 2:14 PM]

06/14/2007 3:39 PM

Everything looks fine to me. And I'll even permit the Displacer Tentacle, just because I think it looks cool, but I'll look up the tenticle damage in the MM because I don't think it would do normal whip damage.

06/14/2007 4:24 PM

I'll look up the tenticle damage in the MM because I don't think it would do normal whip damage.

Good idea.

It's more the length I'm interested in- normal +10ft.

She's pretty much a to-the-fore fighter, so it's not used all that often unless it's, as I mentioned, in conjunction with a touch-attack channeled spell.

[url:http://www.enworld.org/archive/index.php/t-30050.html]This has a displacer beast template that lists tentacle rake damage for different sized beasts. It would most likely have been from a large-type beast, so 1D8?

You let me know what you want anyway- the primary weapons will still be sword/mace

06/14/2007 6:31 PM

Savage Species had rules for making weapons out of creatures. I think a magical displacer beast tentacle whip was actually in there, as well as some other stuff.

quick question: can you wear pauldrons with breastplates? If not I'll change it

Yes. You can wear pauldrons with almost anything (they're laced to the shoulder of the armour). Although in normal D&D it doesn't matter. D&D ignores a whole slew of important armour items, like helmets, chausses, greaves, vambraces, pauldrons, rerebraces, gardbraces, etc. More's the pity. But this isn't basic D&D, so have fun with it. I'm wearing chausses and I don't really care that in D&D they don't make a whit of difference.

06/15/2007 7:28 AM

Yep, wear whatever you want.

and 1d8 sound good to me until I can get home and check out Savage Species.

06/15/2007 6:23 PM

Don't make me start poking people with my uber-lightning-sword.

06/16/2007 1:40 PM

Monk 20/Cleric 10/Stormlord 10

Half Storm Giant, 247 years old

Oceandune's intimidating stature looms at 8' 7&3/4" with a muscular build that belies his flexibility. He weighs around 350 pounds, composed primarily of muscle. His hair is dark, and depending on the lighting is either full black in color or tinged with a deep blue or dark violet hue. He wears it in a double close-cropped mo-hawk, providing a stark contrast to his light violet skin.

His garb is a mix of culture and training. His clothing is loose and baggy, providing plenty of concealment on his person, with a sash around his waist. His well-defined musculature is hidden beneath the loose fabric, but this just seems to amplify the affect

Signature Weapon

Storm's Fury

Storm's Fury is a large-sized spear that can take two forms. One form is a +3 Javelin that has been imbued to carve its way completely through its target (the exit wound property from Complete Warrior), and magically returns to Oceandune's hand after being thrown. The other form is a +3 Shortspear of Force.

These forms appear similar, but there is a slight change in thickness, balance, and length between them. (In appearances, it is very similar to a Qiang [do a google image search if you don't know what I'm talking about...I don't know how to post a url or an image here], but it is a deep midnight blue in color, with a silvery white material on the tip [the Standard, which will be explained in two sentences].)

In weather conditions of at least moderate winds and storm clouds posing overhead, both forms are imbued with the Lightning Blast property.

Oceandune has also affixed a Standard of Heroism to Storm's Fury, providing himself and allies within 30 feet with increased morale and will. (In the complete warrior, it says +2 morale bonus to all attack rolls, saves, and skill checks.)

Items of Note

- Perhaps seen as a signature item of his is his Flying Carpet, which he received during his time in his homeland. It is 10x10, and has been specially enchanted to be telepathically linked to his mind, as well as increased its speed.
- Bag holding 20 Beads of Force
- Bracers of Epic Armor +13
- Anklet of Swiftness (As Boots of Swiftness within the epic magic items list)
- Scepter with 50 charges, with the spells Mass Cure Serious Wounds and Resurrection.
- Gloves of Elemental Strikes +8

Skills/Feats of Note

- Took the epic feat Fast Healing four times, giving him Fast Healing 12 (heals 12 points automatically per round).
- Took the epic feat Bonus Domain, giving him access to the Healing Domain. He thus has access to the Protection, Weather, and Healing domains.
- Took the epic feat Spontaneous Domain Access in regards to the Protection domain.
- Took the epic feats Exceptional Deflection and Reflect Arrows

[Sorry, this is going to sound really cheesy and cliché, but I don't know how else to condense the entire story. Plus I don't have everything that I've written out off-hand, being on a computer not of my own. Nanuk, if you could forward me what I've written to you back to me, I can probably fix this up to not sound so noobish.]

The story of Oceandune's birth is legendary, but only amidst those in the pursuit of knowledge. Born as a slave to a Thayan Wizard, he was spirited away to a monastery as a child, where he devoted himself to the Martial Arts. After training for many years, he returned and led his people to freedom from the Red Wizard that was enslaving them.

The details of his motives are unclear, but when the rebellion was over, he left and devoted himself to an ecclesiastic life. He combined his devotion to the martial arts and his newfound passion to help and heal while searching and learning about the paternal side of his parentage.

He has been through many, many adventures, and some tales of his heroics have seeped into common knowledge, although these tales fail to expound on the actual character of Oceandune. To those who search beyond simple folk tales, it is known that he is almost always traveling with a companion of diminutive stature, and the pairing of the two is epic.

[Noble: You said to kind of tell what the dragon would hear of him, rather than the actual story, so I tried to do that. I'm not satisfied with it, but the other stuff is more important right now, so I thought I had to put something in there. I will edit later on, and let me know if there is anything that is unacceptable.

Also, I had one question:

Will you allow his fists to be enchanted? Every DM/GM is different, and sometimes I've been allowed to enchant a monks fists and sometimes it hasn't been allowed. According to the PHB, a monk's fist is counted as both a natural weapon and a manufactured weapon.

If you'll allow it I'll put up the abilities of his unarmed attacks.]

Don't make me start poking people with my uber-lightning-sword.

Nanuk, if you could forward me what I've written to you back to me

Shall do momentarily.

06/16/2007 9:20 PM

It seems fine to me.

The amulet of mighty fists gives a president to enchanting a monk's unarmed strikes. I don't see why an epic level character wouldn't have found a way to place other enchantments in this item. I don't, however, let the enhancement exceed +15 (total) because it can get a little overpowering.

06/17/2007 6:01 AM

Ok, +15 is more than enough. My question still remains though:

Do I have to get an item to enchant which gives his unarmed strikes a bonus, or can I enchant his unarmed strikes directly?

Difference being that if the amulet is broken, or stolen, or whatever, he's screwed. If the enchantment is directly on his fists/feet/elbows/knees/whatever, he's good unless they amputate him.

06/17/2007 8:02 AM

I've always required that it be an augmentation of the amulet of mighty fists. I have had monks that wore multiple items and changed between them depending on the elemental damage they wanted to do though.

06/19/2007 7:06 AM

Wiskey Tango Foxtrot Max. You were the FIRST to sign up. No post yet?

06/19/2007 7:39 AM

Yeah, I second that.

Although it might also be nice to see our Dm's character sheet up... ;)

06/19/2007 9:28 AM

Yeah, I third that.

Wait a tic... -_-

I was seriously just thinking that this morning. I'm only on my lunch break, but I have an extended lunch break - almost a split shift sort of deal, but not quite that much time - so I'll put up my post before I go back to work.

I do, however, have to be somewhere around...*checks time*...now, so I'll post it when I get back.

Sorry for the delay.

06/19/2007 12:26 PM

Was that acceptable?

BTW, I intentionally left out about when he got his letter...I have an idea, but don't know how exactly I want to word it. I'll work it in later, if you want to know.

06/19/2007 12:33 PM

Oh yeah, and now I have to go, 'cuz I'm late for getting back to work...AGAIN!...

*sigh* oh, the side-affects of being addicted to the RPGC...

06/19/2007 12:52 PM

Was that acceptable?

I found it completely unacceptable- it made mine look even more small and piddling. Sniff.

06/19/2007 12:53 PM

oh yeah, frorgot about that.

Zaon Fangsworn

Cleric 20/Sorcerer 20

Half Dragon/Half Elf, 400 years old

Zaon stands about 6 feet tall due to his draconic heritage. He has far more bulk than your typical elf as well. His golden hair falls beneath the middle of his back and frames his too thin face and amber eyes in such a way that make most give him a wide berth. Most would say his face looks hungry, even though he is well fed. He always dresses as if garbed for war his clothes are tight without restricting movement, his boots are sturdy, and not a stich of his clothing hints at the armor that rests beneath it. He has been dressed in the finest things magic can make, and his father has spared no expence.

Signature Weapon

Zaon's Claw

This plain appearing longsword is actually the Item of Worldly Might that was given to Talios for safe keeping, but he has given the weapon to his son because he knows his days are comeing to an end. Other than the silvered blade, you would not think anything of Zaon's claw until you saw it in the throws of battle. once it strikes a creature, the blade changes to better defeat it's opponents. It can change to a heavy mace or to a rapier and can even change the matierial it is made from if need be.

The most impressive abilaties of the blade are actually found in it's sheath. The sheath grants the bearer fast healing and will instantly stablize Zaon should he fall in combat, allowing him to rise to his feet again the next round. The sheath is studded with jewels that can be activated by command word to cause elemental damage to be added to the sword.

Items of Note

Ring of Weaponbreaking
Armor of the Celestial Battalion
Belt of Virtuous Good (as the epic ring)
Ring of Adamant Law
Bracers of Relentless Might
Periapt of Epic Wisdom
Amulet of Epic Natural Armor
Cloak of Epic Charisma

Skills/Feats of Note

- Took the epic feat Spontaneous Domain Access in regards to the War and Strength domains.
- Took the Multispell epic feat twice, allowing him to cast three quickened spells in a round
- Took the Automatic Quicken epic feat
- Took Enhance Spell and Intensify Spell epic feats

Talios has been training Zaon for the entirety of the Half Dragon's life, ever dangling before him Bahamat's promise to make him a full blooded dragon at the end of the war so that he can enjoy the Great Sleep that the other dragons will enjoy once evil has been cast aside. He was taught fighting as both way of life and religion, but his training did not end there. Talios drilled him on history, religion, and arcane knowledge, sending him to random outer planes whenever he got a question wrong until he had learned the answer. His spell casting was pushed into every test Talios could envision, and Zaon became a master of both arcane and divine magics.

Truely, little is known about Zaon, for mortal men have never actually seen his face. Talios has kept him a prisoner atop his great home, and the times Zaon escaped were few. On those occasions, he traveled, useing what his father had forced into his head to try and bring some joy and hope to the men of the battlefields, but always careful of his secrets, Zaon would wrap himself in illusions to keep people from knowing that Talios had indeed had a son.

I found it completely unacceptable- it made mine look even more small and piddling. Sniff.

And that was thrown together during my lunch break. C'mon, Nanuk, you can do better. ;)

Or, as I originally typed it:

Qhe 5yq5 2qw 5y492h 59t35y34 9h j6 o7hdy g43qil

Oh, and Noble:

wow...that's a helluva lot of epic stuff. I wasn't sure what to bring with me, but I'm beginning to think we're all underequipped, lol.

Of course, we're around half your age (Nanuk's a little more) and don't have an ancient Gold Wyrm as a father...

perhaps daddy has a few gifts for us. :D

Oh, and I'll put up something about the amulet for the enhancement to my unarmed strikes (even though they are already 4d8 damage (plus strength, which is high....I don't remember exactly what, and I didn't bother calculating it up to this level, but we can assume it is at the very least lower 30's...he is a Large creature after all), and are lawful, magic, and adamantine).

06/19/2007 3:47 PM

Of course, we're around half your age (Nanuk's a little more)

I was getting all huffy before I realised you were talking about my character, lol.

C'mon DM- story post!

06/19/2007 4:04 PM

lol...sorry, I have a tendency to use first person reference to my characters.

Apparently it extends to others as well.

I'm actually having trouble figuring out what I want on this amulet...anybody have any ideas/suggestions?

Although as I was perusing a couple of things caught my eye, that would be appealing to my character, although I already have the Javelin. They're a couple of epic staves, the Cosmos and Nature's Fury staves...either of them could be in-character for my character, lol.

Oh, I'm going to change the Boots of Swiftness or whatever to an anklet. I realized after I put it up there that I had always pictured him as barefoot...

06/19/2007 4:13 PM

Stop whining about your amulaet- I have no magical junk, lol.

I haven't had a chance to get around to cementing the ideas I have, or work out stats for them.

Well, I suppose first you have to try and decide is it something you think may be useful on the quest or something that you want to tie in more with your character concept so it's more 'true' to IC.

If you have a backstory for how he got the amulet that could influence the properties of it- like, if it had come from his mother it would have been more likely to have an enchantment that would benefit sorcerers etc.

06/19/2007 6:16 PM

First of all, yes, Daddy has gifts. Daddy also wants to make sure his son survives.

A DM Special that I use pretty often for monks is the "Amulet of Elementals". It alows you to chose a type of elemental damage (fire, ice, acid, sonic, elec) and you recieve the burst property for that enerygy type and gain resistance 20. You can change your choice every round.

06/19/2007 7:27 PM

hahaha...I LOVE your post...he's so cute! Like a 400-year-old immensely powerful kid...

06/20/2007 1:18 AM

Hey, just so everyone knows; my computer is on its way out. I've spent all damn night trying to get it working again and it's only barely doing what I want it to do. And, of course, the computer I ordered a goddamn month and a half ago hasn't arrived. Dell didn't bother to tell me my monitor was backordered until the day the computer was supposed to -arrive-. Fuckers.

Anyway, I should still be able to get in my posts until the new one arrives. But if I do disappear suddenly, you know why.

06/20/2007 2:29 AM

Ack. My sister's Dell laptop is being craptacular at the moment- she's been on to their wonderful tech support people for hours on her half day for the last 3 weeks- so I feel your frustration. They're such tone.

Hooray, we're moving along! lol

06/21/2007 9:38 AM

It's all okay. Things will progress at exactly the pace they are intended to. I'm not gonna kill you off because you don't post for a few days.

06/21/2007 9:57 AM

Oh no- my laptop is fine, I'm just feeling her frustration vicariously, lol.

06/21/2007 5:11 PM

I don't think any of you know this, but..

ok, I'm done.

06/21/2007 5:12 PM

Oh, and that was quick. ;)

I had meant to nudge Zaon along, but I didn't think it would happen that quickly, lol.

Oh, well it worked.

06/21/2007 5:44 PM

Me three!

I have the ink to prove it, lol

I want a Zaon, actually. It's like he's channelling a kender ;)

I was hoping to get a post up tonight but it's nearly 2am (already!), and I don't want to rush it- one must meet the quality standards, what?- so I'll leave it till the morning when I'm (hopefully) refreshed and creative.

06/21/2007 6:34 PM

He's easily distracted, and pretty unobservant. Small nudges can move mountains, but a big push will root him in place forever.

06/22/2007 6:37 AM

Sorry for the shortness of that but figured with the three of us having to get responses in it was best to keep it brief.

06/23/2007 10:17 AM

Be for you ask, the extra dragons are Amethyst, Crystal, Emerald (good children), Obsidian, Sapphire, and Topaz(bad children).

06/23/2007 1:31 PM

It's really no wonder she the last survivor of Lithaldoren. I wonder if she knows.

She didn't!

Nicely done- I got all coo-y reading it, lol.
Not sure if I'll be able to reply tonight, I have visitors, but if not then I'll try early tomor.

06/23/2007 5:33 PM

She still doesn't, I should note.

06/24/2007 2:30 AM

Duh, pet- I don't metagame :P

06/25/2007 8:23 AM

I was just thinking there might have been some confusion between him thinking and his telepathy. I've tried to donote the difference as best I can.

And come on guys. The girl is showing us up.

[Edited by oldnoblewolf on Monday, June 25, 2007 8:24 AM]

06/25/2007 8:31 AM

Sorry, I had family cut into my writing time over the weekend, and now I've got work and stuff again.

AND I covered somebody on Sunday, which I don't usually work then.

So hopefully tonight I'll get something in.

06/25/2007 12:19 PM

I was just thinking there might have been some confusion between him thinking and his telepathy. I've tried to donote the difference as best I can.

I didn't have any problems reading it.

Apart from my anguish at the loss of my homeland- which my boyfriend perversely seemed to derive great pleasure from.

And come on guys. The girl is showing us up.

06/26/2007 3:54 AM

I'll have a post up today after work.

06/30/2007 12:02 PM

Choose your items from the epic items list in the online SRD. Anything you don't already have on your lists as far as items slots go is fair game.

06/30/2007 12:17 PM

I think you should choose items for us! They're your gifts after all. :P

I'll look later tonight, if you insist.

[Edited by Max on Saturday, June 30, 2007 12:17 PM]

06/30/2007 1:25 PM

I don't want to accidently give you something with no use. I also didn't want to replace existing equipment, and I have very little time as I'm gearing up for a month long underway on Monday. (yeah navy life). I will be augmenting what you choose with little 'extras' though.

06/30/2007 1:51 PM

Do you want me to just put the gloves that we had discussed then? The only other thing that peaked my interest was the Staff of the Cosmos, and it would need a slight change in the spells it has stored...other than that, they're all just superfluous items.

07/01/2007 12:05 AM

Got my item choices all handled, but no time to make a post right now. I'll get it posted tonight or tomorrow, though. Here are the items I chose:

Ring of Virtuous Good
Belt of Epic Strength
Cloak of Epic Resistance (+6)

Don't I just feel all tricked out.

07/01/2007 5:52 AM

After long and arduous decisions here are my pimped-out gifts:

Ring of Virtuous Good
Rod- The Path
Boots of Swiftness

Feeling a bit woozy still so I'll try to get a post up later.

07/01/2007 7:17 AM

See, and here I was thinking everyone would try to grab rings of universal energy immunity.

And this is ever so slightly more useful that the belt of epic strength.

Bracers of Relentless Might: These bracers grant a +12 enhancement bonus to the wearer's Strength and Constitution. The wearer is treated as two size categories larger than normal (to a maximum of Colossal) for purposes of combat-related opposed checks that apply a modifier based on size, such as bull rush, grapple, and trip.

And the gloves we discussed, Let's call them the Gloves of Elemental Strikes. Since your a Storm Giant they will default to electricity when you first put them on, and the aura will be both offencive and defencive. (people attacking you and people you attack take damage.) Between that and the Amulet of Mighty Fists (Increase the plus to somewhere above 5, your choice) and the staff you should be pretty much good on all three points. about changes though, what changes would you make? As long as they are spells of equivalent total power I have no problems. We'll call it the Staff of Storms.

Nice choices Nanuk. And perfect for my plans. Mwahahahahahahaha!

07/01/2007 7:42 AM

Oh, we get three? Ok...I had been slightly confused if there were just three chests, or if each chest had three items.

I guess that answers that question.

Anyways, after looking I guess I'll go with the following:

Ring of Weaponbreaking (although the as a monk he already has DR 10/magic. Just for technical reasons I'm trying to figure out how it would work. I don't think they'd stack, so would he have damage reduction 15 for any weapon that was of lesser quality than adamantine, and then for weapons that were non-magic but made of adamantine have DR 10? I think that's how it would work. Just let me know, oh mighty GM.)

Periapt of Epic Wisdom +10

Staff of the Cosmos

[Edit: You had put your post as I was writing mine, Noble.

I reviewed it again, and the Staff of the Cosmos will work just fine as it is. It combines nicely the Storm Giant aspect, and the Cleric aspect of my character.

Thanks, and I'll go and edit my character sheet to put in those gloves then.]

[Edited by Max on Sunday, July 1, 2007 7:50 AM]

07/01/2007 8:19 AM

See, and here I was thinking everyone would try to grab rings of universal energy immunity.

I did consider it, I'll confess, lol.
But where would the fun have been? ;)

Nice choices Nanuk. And perfect for my plans. Mwahahahahahahaha!

Uh oh... worry time...

07/01/2007 8:44 AM

Yes, you have discribed the DR rules perfectly. and all non-magical weapons don't get saves, so lot's of things will be breaking. Just remember that when magical weapons break, they explode, potentially causeing damage to you, the wielder, and anyone within 10 feet of you.

And I was wondering why you didn't want the uber wisdom item. I'm sorry for the confusion. 3 chests with 3 items each.

And no need to worry really. It's an added bonus to certain items. Zaon can't wait to tell you all about it.

07/01/2007 9:46 AM

And I was wondering why you didn't want the uber wisdom item.

You mean the +12? or did I miss something?

I didn't want to go overpowered, but if you insist I can change it. ;)

See, and here I was thinking everyone would try to grab rings of universal energy immunity.

I did consider it, I'll confess, lol.

I did as well, but I didn't want to go overpowered. It comes from playing games that my dad DM's. He'll allow you to get whatever, if you can finaggle your gold and skills and items to get it. If you don't use it correctly, or if you become overdependent on that one item, he'll do something and it'll be gone, and you'll be wrecked.

The means with which it disappears can be amusing at times, but it makes one cautious with your characters.

07/01/2007 10:31 AM

yes, yes it does. and i just meant I didn't know why you didn't want a wisdom enhancement. i won't insist on the +12, but will allow it. I just recommended an item to Damien that gives +12 to two stats after all.

07/01/2007 2:36 PM

i just meant I didn't know why you didn't want a wisdom enhancement.

...I did get the wisdom enhancement...

I think we're having some serious communication issues here.

07/01/2007 9:59 PM

The bracers sound good, Wolf. I wasn't sure if that +12 bonus to two attributes was just too much, which is why I didn't choose it to begin with. Do you want us to just describe the items and have our characters put them on or what? Since you want to add your own touches, I'm not sure how you want to go about us RPing the scenario. As soon as you let me know, I'll get a post in.

07/01/2007 10:09 PM

Be as ornate or as simple with them as you want. My little touches won't have any readily apparent effect. Zaon will tell you the command words to make the special things work, or simply tell you what is there if it's a constant effect. All of them will come with a little card that tells you what the item is called, and the name will give you a reasonable understanding of what it does. Then when you put them on they will tell you what they do basically, and then Zaon will reveal their secrets.

Max, I meant when you told me that you only wanted the staff of the Cosmos, I was wondering why you didn't want a wisdom enhancement.

07/02/2007 2:38 AM

ll of them will come with a little card that tells you what the item is called, and the name will give you a reasonable understanding of what it does.

Great minds, and all that, lol.

Shall try to get a post up soon.

07/02/2007 4:07 AM

Max, I meant when you told me that you only wanted the staff of the Cosmos, I was wondering why you didn't want a wisdom enhancement.

Gotcha. Finally that makes sense. And the reason I didn't want it at first is because I couldn't think of a reason why my character would want it, or would even take it if offered.

As a monk, he has trained all of his life to turn his body, mind, and spirit into perfection, and to reject the fantasy world's version of steroids. Before this he has never had a magical augmentation to his body or mind, sans learning from the manuals (the ones that boost a stat by somewhere between +1 and +5), but there was a rationalization behind that. With the manuals, you had to put effort to make yourself better, not just put a necklace or a headband on to become smarter.

The only reason he is going to accept the Periapt now is because he considers it necessary to ensure the fate of the world is secure, and that it is the will of the gods.

Hopefully that will settle that whole debacle. Sorry I was being dense.

07/02/2007 8:11 AM

You know, I had never thought about them being steroids before. That's actualy a rather interesting thought. I might just have to consider alternate rules for 'holy men' who take vows to never use the things because of how they 'polute' thier bodies, or some other such thing.

07/02/2007 9:26 AM

Perspective. You always have to think in the perspective of the character.

07/03/2007 3:14 AM

Vow of Povery feat (Book of Exalted Deeds) would probably be the best start for something like that.

I'm making my post now - although I'll abstain from using 'cards' as that's a little too wishy-washy for me. Plus, my items are pretty straightforward and Zaon can always give Arothir any hints he may need for special abilities that aren't obvious (command-activated, etc).

Draconic as taken from Dragon Magazine #284 "Dragontounge: A Draconic Language Primer" by Sean K. Reynolds with a Draconic lexicon by Author: Owen K.C. Stephens.

Just for the record.

07/03/2007 4:19 PM

"I'm sure you will Muirin. Vethisjach, the Draconic word for 'My Shadow', Will let you step into the Plane of Shadows. You can even attack from inside of shadows prevalent in an area. I thought you would like it. Just say 'kear' and you'll pop right back into whatever Plane you came from."

This is an extra power associated with... the rod?

Oh I do love sneak attacking :)
*stab stab*

"Your necklace will also affect your sight. Illusions will fail before the magics built within, and even magical darkness won't block your perceptions. You can see the farthest of anyone, so it seemed appropriate."

Don't forget my rod increases distance vision x3- and it has true seeing as well ;)

I'll try to get another post up tomorrow- my poor puppy is getting neutered, so I may be playing nurse, but I'll try to get time, lol.

07/03/2007 6:28 PM

It's accociated with the boots actually. It works a lot like the shadow walk spell, except you can't take other people with you, and you can see clearly enough to pinpoint exactly where you want to come out. The boots will also allow you to attack from inside the border of the plane of shadow by extending parts of your body into the bordered plane.

Yes it does, but when he was given instructions as to it's construction, his father didn't tell him all of that. There are some things he's blissfully unaware of. If he knew everything, he might start getting upity.

07/04/2007 2:42 AM

I can be a guerilla ;)

07/06/2007 10:32 AM

Ack- I was half way through a post and realised Zaon had teleported us to the chamber. It seems a little rude to just wander around the castle looking for the gardens.

When I do get a post up it may be in a few parts- connection is being a little funny.

I'm also going away tomorrow for nearly a week- should be able to get online but can't guarantee it, so if I don't get a post up today and you guys need to move on just bring Muirin along and I'll catch up when I return.

07/07/2007 12:15 PM

Zaon will take you where ever you want to go, and the castle can fill almost any need you can think up. If all of you want to go to the gardens, the concensus will be that Zaon takes you all at once. If there are other things you want to do with your hour, Zaon will take each of you individually. Baths or whatever can be provided, pretty much anything but sex is available though. Just post asking Zaon to take you somwhere and teleporting you there, and then the next person can write seeing him leave and return to take them where ever.

07/07/2007 4:59 PM

Baths or whatever can be provided, pretty much anything but sex is available though.

Dam...I was hoping to find one of Talios's half-dragon daughters and try and make an offspring between half-gold-dragon and half-storm-giant.

That'd be one fucked up kid. ;)

07/09/2007 3:56 PM

Half dragon, 1/4 storm giant 1/4 whatever the fuck else.... Yeah, I think he would have some developmental issues there.

Imagine telling a kid that was immune to fire and electricity not to put a fork in a socket, or touch the hot stove.

07/12/2007 1:35 PM

Is the general concencus that everyone wants to go to the Gardens? if so I'll have Zaon move us there, but I thought I would ask before I pulled us all through time and space again. I might be a GM, but that doesn't mean I get to control your characters. Most of the time anyway.

07/12/2007 4:21 PM

Obviously, that's what I'm of the opinion for. Sorry for the shortness and crapiness of that post, but at least I got one up. :)

07/12/2007 6:17 PM

Yup, garden please.
That's what I was going to request before I left, anyway.

07/12/2007 6:27 PM

This is weird. I posted a reply like. . two or three days ago. But. . it's not there. Fucked up, huh? Server glitch, maybe.

Anywho, I'll write up another tonight. Sorry about that - if I had noticed there was no post there earlier, I would have written another already.

07/15/2007 9:27 AM

I'll get a post up later this evening- I'm entertaining at the moment, lol.

07/16/2007 7:02 PM

Okay, TWO posts of mine disappeared. That is so fucking strange. That hasn't happened to me on this site in years.

Anyway -- I'm typing up a post. . again.. right now. It'll be up in a few minutes.

07/22/2007 9:34 AM

Hey Dames, did you ever post the stats for Basilio? I was trying to figure out what he was - I seem to remember something about a Dire Griffin or something of the sort, but can't find it.

07/24/2007 11:59 PM

Hey Dames, did you ever post the stats for Basilio? I was trying to figure out what he was - I seem to remember something about a Dire Griffin or something of the sort, but can't find it.

It was just bandied about between Wolf and I, mostly. In my character sheet he's listed as an 'Advanced Dire Griffon.' Basically, a Dire Griffon with fighter levels. So he's intelligent enough to understand, but not magical and so he cannot speak.

07/25/2007 5:21 AM

Ok. Good to know.

So he's intelligent enough to understand, but not magical and so he cannot speak.

But I can speak to him - mwahahaha! ;)

(Tongue of the Sun and Moon - A monk of 17th level or higher can speak with any living creature.)

07/25/2007 7:20 AM

Yes, you you still have time for character development type stuff. I was trying to give you all a chance to meet and talk and stuff before you are swept off again. If y'all aren't talking by friday I'm going to move things along.

07/25/2007 11:05 AM

Wait - you expect us to talk and develop our characters!

What kind of a GM are you!?

I can't write a post now, as I used all of my lunch (and more) to write in Hardboiled Fantasy, but I'll try and get something up tonight.

07/25/2007 2:06 PM

I have lady problems so my poor female brain is even fuzzier than normal- also I'm very dizzy, but I'll try to get a post up later/tomorrow.

07/25/2007 2:08 PM

*refrains from making comment*

07/25/2007 2:09 PM

On a serious note, I hope you feel better soon.

07/25/2007 3:17 PM

Yeah yeah, sure. I don't even want to know what the comment would have been :P

That post was horrible, and what's more it felt like it took days to write, which is even more annoying.
But it's something which, I suppose, if often better than nothing.

07/26/2007 5:52 AM

And see, I thought it was well done and heart wrenching. I liked it. Then again, this is probably the most intelegent group of people I've ever gamed with, so maybe your used to a much higher standard

07/26/2007 6:02 AM

so maybe your used to a much higher standard

*looks around furtively*

uh, yeah...sure... ;)

We are rather great, though. Go team epic!

Seeing as how you threw me for six with the heartbreak of having me ignorant of having my homeland destroyed I figured I better reference it in some way, lol. Up the emotional ante ;)

08/01/2007 4:04 AM

I just realized I never wrote a proper 'bio' on my character, nor listed his age. I could have sworn I'd done that, but uh.. I didn't. So let's see if I can somewhat fill in those details with my next post.

08/01/2007 4:54 AM

Okay, not only for your enlightenment but just so I don't forget, I'm going to do a brief write-up here covering just a few points of interest that aren't mentioned in my most recent post.

The 'madness' Arothir refers to in the post was a severe, evil pall. It drove men completely insane. Coming home from small battle some miles away from the Castle proper, Arothir was quite surprised to be driven away by the people there, who believed him to be a demon. Those same people were also attacking inanimate objects and setting fire to homes deemed 'unfit for living.'

Arothir's mother has skill with magical healing, and therefore was not present at this time, having already removed herself to a more hostile area in order to tend the wounded. So far as Arothir knows, she is still alive somewhere close to the eastern coast.

08/07/2007 5:13 AM

Well then, I guess you are all done talking and I will insert a post takeing you to Talios, and then on into twilight.

08/26/2007 8:26 AM

Oh, wow...I hadn't seen the post oldnoblewolf did in the RP. I thought we were still waiting for you. :P

You didn't leave us with much, so I'll probably just post a filler. Probably won't even be more than 2 paragraphs, but we'll see.

It won't be right now, but I'm just letting you know that now it is on my mind and I'll remember to do it soon.

08/30/2007 1:53 AM

Bum, I managed to miss this somehow.

Busy getting classes ready but I'll try to get something up soon- though as Max said it'll kind of be filler.

09/28/2007 4:26 AM

Did this thread suffer the same fate as most thread-based RPs, or is it still on and waiting for new posts?

I'm a huge asshole for being gone so long. But I won't bother posting if this thread is all but abandoned.

10/01/2007 3:28 PM

I'm still here!

I was waiting for posts, and thought all interest had simply been lost. Max posted and hope was restored, so all is not lost yet.

10/01/2007 3:59 PM

zomg! I don't know if my sensibilities can handle this! Two threads rejuvenated in one day!

I think if you were to post, Noble, that would be best. Anything from us would just be filler, and we don't need that right now, lol.

And I would love to continue with this, if Damien ever returns from LC Hell. :D

10/02/2007 7:05 AM

Sorries from me too- thought it was dead and then it dropped off my screen altogether :(

Am definitely still interested- but think what Max suggested was best, because I do remember being seriously stuck for what to write.

I agree. At present there isn't much for us to do except make idle chit-chat. That always seems forced to me. The characters have been thrust into a pretty funky situation and would still be trying to get their bearings, not sharing life stories.

Obviously you're hoping for more interplay between characters, but I think that will happen as the characters get used to being around each other. We need to move along and let it all happen naturally rather than stand around trying to force it.
