First things first: the GMs have final say over what goes down in the thread. However, we are extremely lax, and try to work around or solve any problem. We won't tell you what you can and cannot do with your character. This is a collaborative writing, and will be treated as such. And thus, as a collaborative writing, communication is key.

Prior communication with other posters will greatly help to limit the number of problems that may occur, and is all but required if you wish to join this RP. While it is not necessary, communication helps to make sure that no one's character - or the overall story - are hurt. If you post often without communication, and it begins to hinder or harm other characters or players' plans regularly, we will be forced to disallow you to play any longer, and your character will be killed.

Also, a good understanding of grammar, spelling, and punctuation is required. If you don't want to take the time to read, understand, and think through all of the posts, you could potentially hinder the rest of us from enjoying the experience of roleplaying. Use logic in your posts.

This is the sequel to an RP that I started two years ago. There will be a few plot elements that will have to do with the original. However, these will be few and far between, and will not change the experience of the overall game. Also, if you have any questions about anything in-game, just post them here, and we'll do the best we can to answer them.

And finally, post your character sheets here, and we will review them for acceptance. Do not post if you do not have our approval.

All of this may seem obvious. But, do not join unless you are sure you are going to stick with it and follow the above rules. :]

Now that that's out of the way...

Magician's Stones: Rebirth

Long ago, there was a great hero. Gifted by the gods with the power of great magic, he led the world alongside the other heroes of the gods, pulling it out of war and bringing in an age of peace. However, the hero became audacious, and tried to cheat death itself. And so, he entrapped the whole world in a spell, turning those who had magical ability into stones, their greatest power serving his will. He then crafted himself a stone, and hung it high in the heavens, removing himself from his physical body and residing within the stone until he could one day find a new vessel for his spirit.

The stones existed through the years, feeding the hero's power, drawing natural mana from the earth and allowing the hero to absorb it into himself.

People forgot the story of Maeon, the hero, and soon saw his stone as a moon in the sky. The stories and lores of Maeon were now common bed-time stories for children of the Good Mage and the Corrupt Magicians.

The stones, too, were lost... for over 300 years.

Once cast to the bottom of the sea by Maeon upon their creation, ocean sea currents and the pure magical drive of the stones brought them ashore, where many found their glowing properties best used as jewelry and adornment.

However, others found different uses for them.

Stories began to appear of magic once again. Whispers and rumors of the stones being used to unlock the ancient arts of magic spread through the world quickly.

The release of magic from these stones fueled Maeon's power even further. Finally, his time was ready.

Though the events that transpired were unclear, Maeon lost its beautiful shine. It seemed that the gods had finally turned their favor from their hero, and he was lost forever.

Six years have passed since then. In that time, more and more stones have been discovered, and many now lie in the hands of everyday folk. However, not all could harness their magical abilities. And so, many did not keep them, but instead sold them; their value had increased greatly since the knowledge of their power became common. Trade and demand for them intensified, and the economies of many seaside towns increased greatly.

However, along with the benefits, the stones also brought chaos. Major trading sites became the target of a large amount of raids. The stones, and people that held them, were being targeted by those who wanted the magic for themselves, or simply wished to turn a quick profit.

Many that acquired these stones found them to be useless. The stones seemed to have a mind of their own, and would not work for everyone. Once someone was finally able to tap into the power of the stone, its ability would only be available to the one that used it, until that person's demise.

With tension and demand over the stones building, many could forsee the events that were soon to take place. The world was to be thrown into chaos.

When the time comes to pass that the Hero of unnatural magic is finally lost,
objects of embellishment and ornamentation will become the center of chaos.
The once peaceful world of Cecilia will become one of war and death.
However, from this darkness, new light will be born into the world,
and the Enlightened will regain their rightful place in Cecilia.

And finally, for a basic character sheet. I'd put mine up, but it's not completely ready yet. Keep in mind that all characters are human, though not necessarily humans that you would normally think of.

Name:
Age:
Sex:
Height:
Build:
Eye Color:
Hair Color:

Activated Stones:
You can have up to two activated stones that your character knows how to use. These stones CANNOT be anything as broken as invincibilty, super strength, and so forth. You CAN do things like control time, but it should be very limited in its use and only last for a very short period of time. (For example, you can have a stone that pauses time for a few seconds - or if you prefer to consider it this way, a stone that makes you move so fast that everything else seems to slow or stop around you.) You can also do basic things like levitation (again, not too overpowering), fire, water, and so forth without a problem, but make sure it's not too overpowered. Also keep in mind that you can use the stones as you wish, but too much usage within a short period of time will cause stones to backfire, malfunction, or just plain not work. Make sure you give an in-depth description of what exactly the stones you've chosen can do.

Inactivated Stones: Again, you can have up to two of these, but your character will, at the beginning of the game, be unable to use them and not be aware of what powers they possess. You yourself can have a plan for what the stones do, but your character shouldn't know right off the bat. When thinking of these stones' powers, try to keep in line with the above limits. You do not have to name the abilities of these stones, but merely say that you have them and come up with a plan for them later. Or, hell, you could choose not to have stones at all.

Weapon of Choice: This can be anything you choose, but keep in mind your character's size in relation to the weapon you choose. A small little girl with a massive axe may work in video games, but not here.

Biography: A short description of your character's past (this can be as vague or as specific as you want) and their general personality. You should also describe what they're doing and how they might end up mixed up in the story. How they acquired their stones is also a plus.

Name: Vanderbilt

Age: Unknown, believed to be late 20s, early 30s

Sex: Male

Height: Roughly 6'0''.

Build: Average human, with slightly more muscle.

Eye Color: Ice Blue

Hair Color: Unknown, believed to be brown

Active Stones: Air Stone - This translucent green stone allows Vanderbilt to control the air currents around his body and a short distance around him (no more than 2 feet) He can use the stone to grant himself greater speed, force projectiles off their intended path, and push back an enemy of equal size. He can also use the stone offensively, such as pulling the air from an opponent away sharply, dizzying them for a few seconds. It takes more out of Van to use the stone offensively than it does to use it defensively.

Berserker Stone - This blood red stone causes Vanderbilt to fly into a blind rage, and is activated by intense anger or rage. While in this rage, he will attack anything and anyone in his path, regardless of friend or foe, in a brutal and devastating manner. It can take Van a few moments or several minutes to bring himself under control, based on the extent of his anger. Depending on the amount of time in this mode and the amount of damage taken, Vanderbilt will be anywhere from tired to extremely exhausted. If he stays in this mode long enough, he falls unconscious and cannot be woken for several hours.

Time Stone - This bluish stone gives Vanderbilt the ability to slow time for at most five seconds. During this time, everything around him is slowed to a crawl, and any movements he makes appear to be blurs to everyone else. Regardless of what is done during this time period, Vanderbilt becomes mentally and physically fatigued after using this stone, and can therefore only use it at most, twice in one day.

Inactive Stones: None

Weapon of Choice: A black, one handed-sword with runes carved into the blade. Vanderbilt can wield this in two hands if he so chooses.

Bio: Vanderbilt is a unique person in that he alone knows the truth behind why the moon of Maeon lost its shine. This is because Vanderbilt was there, at the heart of the events of that day, and the memory still haunts him. A mysterious man with an even more mysterious past, Vanderbilt was once feared far and wide for being a cutthroat assassin who killed anyone with a stone and claimed the stones for his own. In reality Van only killed those who refused to hand over their stones to him. He was recognized for his worn brown cloak that covered his entire body, and his icy blue eyes that stared out from underneath the hood of his cloak. His eyes were the only thing anyone ever saw of him, and rumors floated around that those who discovered what the man under the cloak looked like never lived long enough to talk about it.

But since the events at Maeon's moon, Vanderbilt has changed. He has spent the past years living in a small forest outside a bustling port town, serving as the town's unofficial protector of sorts. He watches over the people, no longer considered a fugitive in their eyes, and protects the townsfolk from trouble too big for local authorities to handle. Despite this acceptance of him, Vanderbilt still considers himself an outlaw, and believes that he needs to atone for his sins before he continues his true quest.

I altered this char. A bit from the planning forum. Here it is...

Name: Emm Adams

Age: 18

Sex: Male

Height: 5'11

Build: Average

Eye Color: Black

Hair Color: Blond

Activated Stones:

At this point, he only has a very limited knowledge of these stones, only 2 of the four of them seem to do anything presently, and he can only use the powers he has presently in an alternate state. For example: in rage, at absolute peace (meditation), or when feeling great emotion.

The stone one seems to be able to cause minor earth surges, not powerful yet to be called "quakes", and a bit of rumbling. It seems to only be able to affect a limited area. The stone stone (pardon the pun) seems to also be able to cause areas of land to sink, rise, or crack. He can also lift tiny rocks. He knows this from experiments on small rocks.

The strength one seems to have allowed Emm to enter a rage-like state, exhibiting great strength, and stamina also. He is able to lift heavy objects and take fierce blows to the head, or spine without much damage, that is, until he no longer is in the rage, when he sometimes goes breathless, or in an unconscious state for a short period of time due to the blows. He speculates that with combination of these two powers, he could do much damage, but he has yet to try these out in combat.

Weapon of Choice: Carries a large one handed axe and various light throwing axes. Also carries a spare bow with a quiver and 10 arrows.

Biography: His past is very simple. He got bored after finishing school and he decided to join the army. He was in the army for one year, and was recently released after his brother was killed, as is custom where he is from. He is now a mercenary that hides his past. His father was a priest in a very old church and in it was a relic, a religious artefact that was customary to have in churches of old. On a cool, summer evening, he visited his father and the church. During the night, a cult set fire to the church and destroyed everything. He awoke in time to hear his father's last words. Later in the night, while in remorse by the beach, Emm discovered 2 strange, glowing stones that had drifted to shore. He immediately picked them up, and looked at them. Soon, a strange light appeared in the sky, he immediately bowed down and prayed, assuming that it was a sign from the lord. When he finished his prayer, he stood up and again saw this light and was confused, he then heard rumbling and down rained 2 more glowing stones. He placed them into his hand and deemed the night, simply a strange, cosmic occurrence. One week later, he went to see a lore-master for advice about the occurrence. He was told that sometimes emotional events, or even out of body states like being in a blinding rage, or being in a meditative state, can release hidden magical energy from objects. He realized that the rumbling and the lights in the sky were caused by strange powers emitting from the stones. Later, in the evening, the man he visited, who gave him advice, was found dead, murdered by a group of assassins. He realized how powerful these stones were, and that he must keep them secret. He is now on a quest to find out, just how powerful they are.

Straight from the Interest query...

Name: Brianne Nimerche

Age: 14

Height: 5.0 ft

Build: Brianne is thin and lanky, with near skeletal arms and legs

Eye colour: Sky blue

Hair colour: Her hair would be a golden blond if it were not usually dirty. It hangs just above her shoulders, descending in messy, exceedingly stringy tendrils.

Activated stones: One orange, one a shimmery blue

Shimmery blue (for lack of better color name) - This stone levitates the user when held. However it only levitates them no more than four inches off of the ground. It appears to have no other substantial power, and while it does not tax the user in any way, its use appears relatively pointless to Brianne. While inches from the ground, the user cannot move forwards or backwards, or in any direction at all besides standing exactly where she is.

Burnt Orange - The Burnt Orange stone is hot to the touch. Besides giving off heat, it has no other power. One can only hold it for ten seconds without the acrid smell of fried flesh rippling through the air, so it spends most of its time inside an insulated navy pouch.

Inactivated stones: A violet stone and a navy stone.

Violet - I think it has a temporary telekiniesis power. As in, you can project one thought into one person's brain, but it can only be used once per person.

Navy - Currently in development

Weapon of choice: Brianne carries a small knife with her at all times. Beyond that, she has nothing.

Biography: As far back as Brianne can remember, she lived in an orphanage on 17th Street, the Helpless House. The name originally was supposed to be the Helpful House, but after the mistake of the sign painter, the name was forever changed, and indeed, was more fitting this way. The management of the orphanage did not tell her how she came to exist there, who her parents were, if she even had them. At eleven, she fled, unable to handle the mundane existence that the orphanage offered.

In the city she was alone, a ruffian child of the streets, a nameless beggar and street urchin that most people ignore and feel sorry for. For a short time she was the leader of a band of small children who stole and sold things to survive, but slowly they each disappeared until she was alone again. It was during this process that she met Perfidious Ralph. Perfidious was a broker in foreign and used goods, most often black market items that should not see the light of day. It was he that allowed her a job and an occasional place to stay.

One not so important day, a wild-looking man with white hair to his waist stumbled into the shop, raving like a lunatic and waving his hands around. They were charred to the bone, blackened by an apparent fire. Slobbering drunk, he threw a small pouch of stones onto the counter, red splattered eyes boring into Brianne's. She was alone with him at the time. "Maaaagical st-stones! 'et them a'ay frum m-me!" he shrieked at her, and then fled leaving mud on the floor and black remains on the door frame.

She was uncertain as to where the man found the stones, but soon discovered the purpose of these so called magical stones. At first, she was terribly excited, realising how such a wonderful find could change her life! What kind of powers would she have? The ability to make waves, create sculptures of ice, bend fire to her every thought? Such power was useful, dangerous and incredibly thrilling. It was what she had been seeking all her life. The actual powers of the Shimmery Blue and Orange stones were and continue to be a source of great frustration, anger and depression for her.

Bwahaha there it is.

Edit : I don't particular like to be bunnied. Ask first. And believe me, I can write a paragraph or so with only a single line of dialogue without much trouble. So you won't get two liners from me.

Straight outta Compton.

Compton being the Interest thread.

Name: Iesha Rahul

Age: 27

Height: 5'6

Build: average, tending toward the nicely curvy side

Eye colour: her left is dark grey, her nearly blind right a milky white and so unnoticeable against the sclera.

Hair colour: very, very fair blonde, and worn cropped short and toussled

Activated stones:

Seeing- a translucent blue stone allows her the ability to view events and people at a distance. To do this she must have some type of reflective surface- a clear liquid, mirror etc. It requires great concentration, meaning that she can do nothing else while using the stone, and is greatly tired after its use. She must hold her breath to activate and use the stone (how about lack of oxygen affects her brain and ocular nerve function, allowing her to access the stone's power ), and the ability only lasts for as long as she can hold her breath. She does not hear any sound while viewing, meaning that what she sees is narrow and open to interpretation. The further the distance the more brief the viewing time and the more debilitating her reaction. If it is to scry on people she knows concentration is easier to maintain.

Speed- a clear, colourless stone greatly increases her speed relative to those around her. Straightforward enough. To activate the stone she must feel at least anxious or concerned (i.e. she couldn't just use it to get the housecleaning done more quickly unless she was really concerned about what the neighbours would think). The drawback is that as she is being sped up rather than everything else being slowed down so is her heart rate, breathing etc. so once she returns to normal speed she is dizzy, faint and often nauseous. Maximum time she can use this ability for is approximately two minutes, the length of time being directly proportional to the strength of the after effects (i.e. if she used it for 5 seconds she'd only feel a little dizzy).

Inactivated stones: one grey, one chocolate brown.
Haven't decided on them yet but I may have one as Heal, the drawback being the energy used to do the healing comes from her, so she's limited by what she's willing to give, and obviously unable to resurrect.

Weapon of choice: ranged weapons are obviously not her forte given the binocular vision issues, and she prefers to fight in close so that perspective isn't a problem. Usually uses a morning star combined with a sharp-edged shield. The village where she lives is on the seacoast and has in the past been raided, and so a small but disciplined and efficient militia was formed to protect it. The village is small so all able bodied are expected to join up and attend at least one training session a week- this is where she learned to use a weapon.

Biography: Iesha grew up a city girl, one of seven children. Her early life was uneventful- no orphanings, abandonments or plagues- her parents were hardworking and hardhanded but not cruel, and made sure that, although they needed to work, their children also got some education.

When she was fifteen she found a place as a nanny with a good family, the Arbels, and for a while it was a good life. The children were fond of her and she of them, her employers pleasant and fair. But after a difficult labour upon the birth of their third child Mrs. Arbel was slow to recover, in both body and spirit, suffering from poor health and depression. During this trying time her husband, Dayne, trying to cope with the strains of both his family and work lives, turned to alcohol. One night after settling the children Iesha came to his study to bid him goodnight and found him in a drunk and maudlin state. Trying to encourage him to retire to his bed she instead aroused his frustration: he assaulted and used her before passing out.

Leaving the house before the sun rose she was reluctant to go home but did so, saying to her parents only that the Arbels had no further need of her.
Four months later when her belly began to swell and harden she again slipped away in the night, making her way to the labyrinthine slums of the city.

Supporting herself by doing almost any work she could find she yet grew malnourished, and finally ill, succumbing to a sickness common in the slums. 'Ghost Eye' was caused by a parasite, and cost any infected the sight in one, if not both, of their eyes. Considering herself lucky she got back to work as soon as she was able, eventually finding regular and honest work with a middle-aged carter, Eown Bross. Initially she helped him with messengering and light loading and unloading, but eventually was able to help him keep his account books. He never commented on her condition, nor asked questions of her, and when the baby was stillborn suggested she come with him on a trip to the coast to visit his sister.

Sherra and her fisherman husband Tavin lived in a small but welcoming village, Cragaven, and Iesha's spirit returned during the stay, the strange sight of the sea enchanting her and easing the pain inside.
The morning they were to leave she woke to find a letter on her pillow and Eown already gone. In a clumsy hand he had written that he would return in a month, and if she wished to return with him to the city she could, but that his sister and her husband, having no children of their own, had said they would welcome Iesha into their home. There was no explanation for his actions in the letter, but when he returned a month later Iesha was already learning how to repair nets and row a boat.
She remained in the village, anticipating Eown's visits but never returning to the city, and in time writing a letter to her family to explain what had become of her, and that she was happy.
Two years after settling in Cragaven she found her stones on the shore while beachcombing, and she wears them always in a small seal-skin pouch around her neck.

Name: Jaspar (real name is Alexis McLaen)

Age: 17

Sex: female

Height: 5' 8"

Build: Slightly above average

Eye Color: Sky blue

Hair Color: Light brown

Activated Stones: none

Inactivated Stones: Cerulean Blue, Jasper

Cerulean Blue: Allows one to see into one's mind and see one's thoughts, immediate action, and (in weak minds) one's past. What can be seen depends souly on the strength of the victim's mind. Also, the stone feeds off of the autoimmune system on its user and/or others. Currently, it is under a seal, but sometimes finds a way to feed off of someone.

Jasper: Manipulates stones into whatever a person wishes it to be (Items, other rocks, and barriers). It takes a lot of practice, however, to make it into shapes. Once something is created, the creation is very weak and can break very easily.

Weapon of Choice: Long sword in physical battle

Bio: Jaspar was born as Alexis McLaen, a young girl from a powerful noble family. Currently, she is a captain of the army. For most, that's all they know about her other than her appearance. Her tomboyish appearance and attitude has been hindered slightly as she got older. Now her light brown hair is longer, something she would've refused to allow several years before. Men who wouldn't recognize her as the soldier she is would probably compliment her unusually light blue eyes (much to her dismay) and then remark she is rather feminine looking. Even so, she is a boy by nature: more rough and physical than any other noble woman, she can throw any of her men down without a flinch of hesitation.

Despite this, however, some of her officials would mention that she is calmer recently than she would've been. If one were to ask about it, Jaspar would probably respond that 'it's not always good to make rivals of everyone'. The real reason, however, is thus: since 6 years ago, she came to possess the power to feel emotions, a power called empathy. Currently, she is learning to control this skill; until she can control it, she will sense and feel as her own anyone's emotions when her hands are exposed. Therefore, she wears velvet-like gloves. (The side effects of her power are vivid hallucinations, vomiting, and high fevers among others)

In her possession are two Magician's Stones. Both are inactive per say. While the blue stone was discovered within her home, the jasper stone was found amongst some rebels of the law. The blue stone can make anyone catch an unknown sickness. Terrified of this, Jaspar keeps this stone under a barrier set by an unknown person (the bracelet it is embedded in) to prevent herself and others from getting sick.

Name: Leoraki Terran (Leo for short)

Age: 29

Sex: Male

Height: 6'0

Build: Average, young build.

Eye Color: Aquamarine

Hair Color: Short, straight and blond.

Activated Stones:
Blazing Flurry Stone: Allows the user to MUNIPULATE fire into any shape and size to strike his foes, Leo can get cocky and likes to name each shape of fire he makes and eventually boasts about them. Usually found in a gold necklace he has.

Gem Finder Stone: Allows the user to track down gems (rubies, aquamarines, diamonds, emeralds, etc...) from underground or hidden places (I chose this because of Leo's old profession, mining)

Inactivated Stones:
Animal Speech Stone: Allows the user to speak to an animal with telepathy for a short period of time, it can be deactivated if the user wishes. (Time Limit - 30 - 50 seconds)

Sonic Air Stone: Allows the user to blow or scream silently at an object to move it if it's in the way, can only push what Leo can possibly be able to push.

Weapon of Choice: Two short sabre's, one with the gem finder stone encrusted in the blade, the sabre's were made by Leo's father who was a local blacksmith.

Biography: Leoraki was born in a village just on the outskirts of a forest, he, his father and mother were always distant, his father who was a brilliant blacksmith, was always going between villages to craft his finest weapons for knights and nobles. His mother worked in the local tavern as a cook and considering the tavern was open all day and most of the night, he was left to be looked after by his aunt who had no work at all. From her he learned that nature should be respected and after she died, he begun to understand why. When he was 17 he and his father went to a village to blacksmith, as Leo was his fathers apprentice. His father, as a gift of apprenticeship crafted two sabre's for him, one with a slot in it, and this is where his father gave him the Gem Finder, a stone of which he found while in another village, Leo inserted the stone in the slot and farewelled his father and he went to a mining village to become a miner. He soon learn't what the Gem Finder was capable of and used it to much, as a result the Gem Finder Stone begun malfunctioning and he never used it again until one day it would be fixed. When mining he found the two mysterious gems which looked like the Gem Finder, the 'abilities' of these stones where not usable so Leoraki stored them for safe keeping. He bought the Blazing Flurry Stone from a noble who said it was useless and Leoraki began to know it's power. Now Leoraki works as a ship builder in the docks of another village.

Good morning, everyone. Terra, you can now start posting, as well.

I'll try to get my character sheet up sometime today, but I have to go to a funeral at 10am est. That's like, 2 hours from now. D:

If I don't get it up by then, I'll have it up sometime later today. More likely the latter than the former.

Name: Alten Gaurel
Sex: Male
Height: 5'11"
Build: Average
Eye color: Dark blue
Hair: Black, usually pulled back

Activated stones

Color: Clear
Ability: Helps the user to 'read' a person: detects deception, feels the basic mood of the target, and can rarely be used to see the greatest wish of the target. However, while this stone is being used, the target (if aware of their ability to do so, and with slight concentration) has the same ability against the user.

Color: Teal
Ability: Allows for the detection of magic. This includes an ability to 'feel' the presence of stones in an area. Does not, however, detect exactly where the magic is, simply that it is there.

Inactive stones

Color: Dark red
Ability: Unknown. However, the glow that this stone produces pulsates in regular intervals. Also puts off a slight vibration every time the light intensifies.

Weapon of Choice: Trained to weild a one-handed blade. However, his weapon usually stays within its hilt, and he chooses to use two shorter blades.

Biography: Alten, born in a small village near the edge of the Kingdom of Maeon, was brought into an imporverished family of outcasts. His early years were plagued with disease, hunger, and sadness with the nearby society of aristocrats taxing the surrounding areas and townships large amounts. When Alten's father fell ill, he was unable to work, and the family went even deeper into debt. Finally, after a few weeks of missed payments, a group of well-armed nobles came and took Alten and his little sister away, selling them into slavery.

Alten was quickly bought up by a group of armed soldiers, who picked him for the rage that he exhibited against his captors. He was taken to the Kingdom Vaire, where he was put into a program of young children trained specially for a specific part of the Vairene Advanced Offensive Force by request of the Queen, who saw over the training of a group of 100 boys until they reached adulthood. Only 25 of them were chosen at the end of their training to be in a Special Operations unit known as the Queen's Vipers, a group of highly-trained assassins and spies who are the eyes and ears of the Kingdom's high court. Alten just missed the cut, and was instead placed into a group with the other 75 for reassignment.

He made his way into different parts of the Vairene armed forces, advancement coming quickly in the 14 years that he was in the Guerdine branch, working his way up until he was in charge of a battalion of highly trained warriors known as the Guerde Elite.

He was a brilliant leader, bringing his men through many victories. Few had the leadership abilities of Alten Gaurel, and few had come to as much success as he. However, he finally came to a challenge that broke him completely.

The Kingdom Maeon, one of Vaire's strongest allies, had a problem with a principality to the north of its borders. A group of nobles and aristocrats hired hundreds of mercenaries, skilled with the art of war. They captured many villages and towns for the purpose of increasing their power and wealth. However, there had recently been a surge of activity and violence, and the King of Maeon decided to put a stop to it. Calling upon its closest ally, they were supplied two large battalions of warriors: The Ferean Guard and the Guerde Elite.

Alten, remembering his past, had no love for corrupt nobles, and ordered his men to tear through anything in their path to get to the heart of the Reldean Province.

Upon reaching his third target, a small village near the border, he met with his downfall: the corpses of his mother and father were found mutilated in the center of the village.

Stricken with greif, Alten's judgment was clouded with his suffering, and the campaign was largely unsuccessful. Alten was transferred from his division to a division that few had ever heard of: the J'endal.

The original purpose of the J'endal was to find and discover relics and ancient writings in relation to Magic in the early ages. However, their focus quickly shifted in response to the rumors of the magic stones. As a result, Alten learned many disturbing concepts behind them, and was effectively forced to desert, for the only other way he could leave with the knowledge that he had was by execution.

It is now one year later, and Alten continues his research of the Stones and ancient magic. However, he keeps his stones well-hidden, for he does not want to draw attention to himself. He spends his time actively recruiting for a resistance effort against the Vairene Kingdom and trying to discover more about the nature of his stones.

Hey, everyone.

I was around for the creation of the "first" RP, and I was looking forward to this.

Then, June 1, Friday, lightning struck my back yard. Fried my cable modem. So, I had no idea that this was even up yet, as everyone who played in the first one only knew each other online, and, well, if I can't do that, yeah. No contact.

So, here I am. I guess I'd be considered one of those fancy "GMs", though I'm not entirely sure of how deserving I am of the title. I seem to end up with authority in my hands frequently, and all I really wanna do is have fun :( I'm always open to questions, you can contact me at glennisfrog on AIM. Just to chat is fine, too, but I'm sometimes busy, and if I am, you'll just have to wait!

Name: Oberon Falkner

Age:20

Sex: Male

Height: 6'

Build: Buff

Eye Color: Grey

Hair Color:Black

Activated Stones: None. Instead, Oberon is the first of his kind, with the ability to wield magic through faith. He only can perform simple magic, and it must be either of a healing nature, or to repel unnatural evil.

Inactivated Stones: There are none, but there are many unlearned spells.

Weapon of Choice: A simple broadsword

Biography: Oberon was raised by a small order of priests, who could, before Maeon had changed, perform simple rites that could cure minor diseases through faith in the ideal of good. Since the change, they had found their powers had grown significantly. No longer limited to the most basic of healing, they could now cure the wounded, and save lives in immediate danger.

Oberon was decided to be the first of a new kind, one who would directly combat evil, pain, and suffering. As a child, he was taught the basics of faith magic, and in the recent 6 years, he was trained in the use and care of heavy armor and weaponry. Honorable, and with a warm smile on his face, he has set out to right wrongs, and to bring order to the chaos that is the world.

Good- we expected more ;)

Have you read the link AvA put up in the 'RP non-no's thread (I also put it up in the character bios thread)?
It goes to a section of a site where they burninate terrible RP profiles- the number that were 'mysterious' was depressing, so I know how Jay feels, lol.

I'm feeling woozy from blood test-and my arm hurts like all buggery from it- but I'm going to see if I can concentrate long enough to get a post up (how's that for dedication?!)

nanuk
06/08/2007 6:07 AM

Oh, and a quick question- does this port town where everyone-but-me-seemingly is have a name?

I need to get a way to get my character nearer to y'all and I don't think saying 'we're going to that big town, you know- the one with the port?' will read well more than once ;)

And I suppose just to clarify- I assume at least some of will be meeting up at some stage?

Dustyn
06/08/2007 8:19 AM

Haha, quiet down. I was having a momentary lapse of intelligence. :]

I believe I quite fixed the problem, though. So no more shall be said about that.

As for a name, I guess we could just pull something out of our asses. It's not really any specific town that we had in mind. The next person that needs the name is free to think one up. My brain's a little fried right now. :D

And yes, nanuk. I would assume the same, as well.

glenn_frog_knight
06/08/2007 1:33 PM

While, by rule, we don't have to have everyone in a big party, I'd be a bit disappointed if every character doesn't at least meet and get some interaction between one another. That's the fun part, after all.

Dustyn
06/09/2007 12:09 AM

Lifio, your most recent post in the RP was sub-par. It wasn't structured well, and the grammar was also below a level of what we expect. I shouldn't have to correct you. I stated in my first post that this is a game for somewhat advanced players, and as such, higher standards of grammar, spelling, and at least some amount of creativity.

If you'd like to speak with me further regarding this matter, message me. I'll be glad to work with you on any problems that you may have, and even talk a little more in-depth about your post. However, if you choose not to, your posts need to show some kind of improvement. If this continues to be a problem, you may be removed from the RP. Just decide what you want to do, but don't continue if you do not think you have the understanding of the English language that this RP requires. Keep in mind that I'm willing to help, though. :)

Okay- I found myself getting a little confused as to who was who (especially with some of our thread masters temporarily controlling each others characters, lol), so for my reference and anybody else who's bad at keeping track of names here's a list of the characters each user is playing, their activated stones and their ages (for forming a mental picture, lol):

Whizkid7- Vanderbilt (air/time/beserker stones), late 20s/early 30s

adamsonite- Emm Adams (earth/strength stones), 18 yrs old

Jay- Brianne Nimerche (levitating/warm stones), 14 yrs old

nanuk- Iesha Rahul (seeing/speed stones), 27 yrs old

Lifio- Amadis Meline Berass (otherworldly seeing/stone locating stones), 25 yrs old

Deathword- Jasper A.K.A. Alexis McClaen ('psychic'/matter manipulation stones), 17 yrs old

Terra_Withers- Leoraki 'Leo' Withers (blazing flurry/gem finder stones), 29 yrs old

Dustyn- Alten Gaurel (empathic/magic detection stones), ? yrs old

glenn_frog_knight- Oberon Falkner (no active stones, possesses inherent magic), 20 yrs old

Hahah, drugs.

Sorry >.>

Anyway, the four of us always were controlling each character. Vanderbilt is a recurring character from the last game, so the four of us "know" him pretty well. If you're incredibly uncomfortable controlling other characters in your post, you don't have to, but be warned/rest assured, the four of us will be doing it, at least (After all, if we didn't have it, I can't imagine how the two of them could have worked that situation out). We do frequently talk to each other over AIM, though, and ask "How would s/he respond to XXX".

Heheh, porn.

Also, just to point it out; I have 2 n's in my character name (Chrono Trigger).

Oh, and, uhm, thanks for the list. To be honest, I was running back to profiles all the time, too.

Well, please excuse us if we do it without asking. In the last one, it was very, very encouraged to use other characters in your posts. After all, without it, I can't imagine how Deathword and Whizkid would have worked that situation out with as much finesse as they did. We'd usually contact each other outside the game, and either roleplay it on the fly and use what comes out, or we'd simply ask, how would X respond to Y happening?

However, with minor things, or things that are obvious (which I feel is reasonable, after you do it for so long like the 4 of us did), we didn't usually bother.

If someone has your character do something, and you want something changed about it for any reason, simply contact them. Everyone here seems to be friendly, easy-going, and approachable, so it shouldn't be a problem, though maybe an issue.

The nice thing about edit features is that they're there to use :)

If anyone doesn't want us using their character, for whatever reason, say so now. Your wishes will be respected, and not held against you. There are a vast amount of very, very good reasons to request it, and it doesn't have to be permanent. It can simply be "Get to know my character a bit before you use it in complex situations."

We aim to please.

I dont really like to interrupt rping, id rather work around a knot than saw through it, so to speak. If someone does something that I dont like IC, I will rp around it.

EX:

...Then after he had cleared his mind, PJ went to the blacksmith and looked at Emm. He stole his wallet using his special stone power of pause time. He ran away quickly when time was slowed aswell, "Now I have money to buy a decent horse".

((I would say))

Emm was gullible most of the time and on many occaisions he has been duped and theived. However unfortunate for whoever stole his wallet, it was a diversion, and the fake wallet was empty. ((Then I continue rping))

To be honest, what your posts are saying can be interesting, but how you say them is incredibly sloppy.

I'll put my "corrections" in (())

Suddenly a large boom erupted from, seemingly, a ship in the bay.

Characters can be vague, and items can be vague. Events that are not from the perspective of a character directly are not vague. Things do not seemingly come from a ship in the bay. They either straight do, or a character hears it as that.

((Emm thought he heard an explosion coming from a ship, towards the bay.))

That's an example of an ambiguous event that works. The "narrator", aka the text between speech, is a tricky thing to do. We're telling stories, but we're not telling stories to people who are in front of us. The style you do it is different. If you memorized that, and read it out loud to someone, I imagine it'd sound pretty good. These stories aren't supposed to be told as if the reader was there, but rather, like a book.

...a large booming galleon was open firing on the hillside.

((A large galleon was booming as it opened fire on the hillside.))

Please, use correct grammar. Opening fire, not open firing.

"That Hill-shide wahsh ...hic! It...err...attacked firsht ...hic!"

I haven't ever heard a drunk in real life constantly hiccup. Am I alone here? If I'm wrong, okay, but I always found that stereotype silly.

He headed back to the town and he spotted a commotion in the square. He ran over and saw a man with a wounded leg. "What happened here?" A woman told him what had happened and he said, "My father was a medic in the army, one of the best in this kingdom, before he turned to God." He looked at a man trying to stop the bleeding, "I can bandage him until help arrives." He looked at the man, "I'm going to give you some herbs to take, it will help the pain and numb the leg." The man, now drowsy from loss of blood, accepted the herbs.

Is this related to my post? Because where Oberon is isn't where you guys are. You're in a separate town from the one he (and nanuk's character) is at, so if you're playing off my post, you, uh, shouldn't be. It's in another part of the world. Not to mention, my character is in the process of already healing the poor fellow.

If this isn't related to my post, please, be more careful. It's quite the stretch of imagination that both of our characters would both run across a man with a severe wound in the leg at the "same" time in different places.

Son of a damn. Quoting stuff here's a pain.

There are more than one place that a boom can come from. The boom seemed to have come from a ship, a guess by Emm. He did not see the ship, so he guessed that the booming noises came from one. What I am saying is exactly what you said, but with the predicate first, kind of like Yoda. But no worries, I'll go subject then predicate from now on.

In this case, what I mean by booming was large (A boom is the main mast of the ship, to say a ship is booming is to say it is big, I should have simply said, "A large galleon was..."

I meant to say opening fire. One cannot say "open mailing," one says opening mail. This is a mistake that I might have noticed, and I apologize.

Simply comic relief, a typical stereotype, among the stereotype of Canadians like me saying "Eh!" Hiccoughing is simply a spasm in the muscle that separates food into the correct pipe (Food to esophagus, Air to Bronchial). It has nothing to do with drinking. But the story needs some down points (Funny, amusing points), heh heh.

The problem is, what you said was general narration, followed by character talking, and acting. You didn't give the impression that it was what your character thought. Obviously, I understood it's what you MEANT to say, but it isn't WHAT you said :P

In this case, what I mean by booming was large (A boom is the main mast of the ship, to say a ship is booming is to say it is big, I should have simply said, "A large galleon was..."

I've never heard of it being used like that for a ship-specific term. Booming generally means rapidly expanding or resonating, sorry if I misunderstood you there.

Well, funny things can be good. The problem is, cliche humor that's not really related doesn't work usually, and I don't feel it did there.

And yes, i know what hiccuping is, I was just trying to show my distaste of drunks hiccuping.

Just be aware if you're in other threads that generally it is frowned upon here (and in most other forums TBH), and some people react very badly to it. Because you've mentioned it we'll all be aware of it so it shouldn't be a problem- like you say, anyone who has a problem with it can let you know beforehand.

I find my reaction to it can be a bit subjective- if it's someone I 'know' and respect, and is in an RP I'm enjoying I'm fine with it, but if I'm finding the RP lacking and don't really like the person I'll go ape sh*t, lol.

Perhaps we should clarify on that: It's encouraged in the sense that to avoid making short posts, borrowing someone else's character for a few brief sentences is necessary. But you are right in that we should have mentioned that from the start, but thankfully you're all being very understanding about this. We'll do our best to avoid using people's characters that don't want them to be used outside of their own posts.

Yes, well, my internet wasn't working when this was started.

Like I said, if it's your wish we don't use your character in our posts, fine, but even if the forum doesn't normally do that, this game will. I do apologize for not making this known in the start, but it's not like we'd know your forum standards coming in. It was a problem that could have been avoided, and for all intents and purposes, it really has been. There's been no damage done.

Again, it will be respected, but you're going to be the odd man out. If you place restrictions on using your character, exactly that will happen; your character will do less. If you're concerned about your character acting in ways it shouldn't, simply speak up. And, like Whizkid said, it won't be something major. We won't have a post making your character run around naked, and we won't have a post where someone else's character is the main focus; we're here to play our own characters, obviously, and that's what we'll do. But honestly, like I said before, how would you manage a posts where we have extended character interaction? Are we going to have 2-line posts? Any extended interaction, similar to the one Deathword and Whizkid's characters had, will be done behind-scenes first, like I said, then compiled into a large post.

But, again. if someone wants to go out of their way to go against what will be normal thing in a game, it's their responsibility to make it known. Would it be any other way with something else in another topic, where you wanted something outside what's normal? I hardly think it's fair to place blame on us entirely.

Maybe we should ask Dustyn to add that to his first post... to avoid the problem with new arrivals?

... I'll get to that later...

As I mentioned previously I do not have a problem with it once I've been given a heads up, which I have, so relax a little.

I was merely trying to point out that you were the ones doing something out of the ordinary in the forums- and whose responsibility is it to learn the rules of a forum when joining? :P- because, to be honest, I felt your original post (the one above that I replied to) was a bit.. brusque? Is that the word I'm looking for? Passive aggressive?

Ack, it's hard to explain, but I was left with a feeling of mild umbrage- probably because a character someone creates is their creation, and some people-myself included- can get very protective of them, and a kind of blasee attitude about controlling others' characters is a little, well, blasee.

And as I have said before from what I've seen of your roleplaying I know you're not going to do anything ridiculous with my character; that's not the issue.

It's like someone using my mug in work, lol.
If they ask I don't mind, but they need to be aware of the fact that it's mine, and I want it back in the same condition I left it.
Saying 'Where I worked before I used to borrow people's mugs all the time without asking' doesn't make me feel any better about it, nor does the fact that I know you're not just going to smash it off the ground- it's a matter of respecting other people's property.

I know your intention certainly isn't to be disrespectful but to me it feels like you're thinking 'don't be getting your knickers in a twist, it's no biggie' when it has frequently been a biggie here. If something is mine, it's mine, and I can be as lax or as precious with it as I want, and my initial problem was, again, not with the bunnying but that, with your post, you gave the impression that those that felt that way were 'odd'.

But honestly, like I said before, how would you manage a posts where we have extended character interaction? Are we going to have 2-line posts?

People manage.
You can get decent-length posts just fine without bunnying, it just takes a bit of care with the structure of the post.
Obviously, for important interactions they can be shorter, and with dialogue it can get tricky, but I know I, personally, if interacting with another character am careful of the phrasing of any dialogue so that it doesn't necessitate 2-line answers.
In Age of Descent there's a lit of interaction at the start but we coped fine. Occasionally a shorter post was needed but as you already stressed communication is important in this thread the people involved (who might not want their characters controlled) in what they know is going to be an important, dialogue-heavy exchange, can just arrange to be on at similar times so they can reply.

Would it be any other way with something else in another topic, where you wanted something outside what's normal? I hardly think it's fair to place blame on us entirely.

If, in another topic, there was something that was outside the norm for this forum it would have to be mentioned initially by the DM so that people would be aware of it, so yes- the 'blame' is yours.

It doesn't matter that for you posting each others' characters is normal: in this forum it isn't, and, just like in real life, if you go somewhere new the onus is on you to be aware of the 'laws'/cultural differences.
There are enough posts in this section of the site where people give out about people bunnying without permission for anybody joining to be aware that it is not a common practice here- there's a whole thread in the talk section about the kind of things frowned upon in RPing here: if I was joining a forum that kind of thing would be my first stop so that I knew how things operated.

Now this is getting ridiculously overblown and longwinded because, as you've mentioned, it's not going to be major things you're doing to characters, but to me it was important that you understood the thinking behind at least my comments.

I think potentially this thread could be fantastic so let's just move on- anyone who doesn't want their character controlled can just mention it here, and maybe edit it into the post where they have their character sheets.

glenn_frog_knight

- and whose responsibility is it to learn the rules of a forum when joining? :P-

Now, there's a difference between how you guys normally do things and the rules.

http://www.rpgconsortium.com/roleplaynow/ffrpforumsguide.cfm

There's the guide to your forums. Where does it mention what you're talking about?

I felt your original post (the one above that I replied to) was a bit.. brusque? Is that the word I'm looking for? Passive aggressive?

The problem I had was that they went and said "Do work for us" when they were perfectly capable of doing it themselves.

Ack, it's hard to explain, but I was left with a feeling of mild umbrage- probably because a character someone creates is their creation, and some people-myself included- can get very protective of them, and a kind of blasee attitude about controlling others' characters is a little, well, blasee.

How boring, though. Then your character will only be how you see it, and will never get any new angles unless you see it. It's silly, if you ask me.

Actually, all my post really said was "It's going to happen unless you say don't let it. And, I think you'll be missing out a lot with it.

And they're the odd man out, not odd. They're going to be the ones who have characters that do less interaction, because by nature of how they'll be playing compared to the people that allow some "sharing", they'll be doing just that; less.

If, in another topic, there was something that was outside the norm for this forum it would have to be mentioned initially by the DM so that people would be aware of it, so yes- the 'blame' is yours.

That's fantastic, except that we made it perfectly clear we're not old members of your forums. It's like having a guest over, he offers to play a game, and he does it different. Is it his fault that he didn't tell you it was different? No. You're playing his game, not the one you're used to.

There is no real indication that you guys don't have other people use your characters in the primers here. It's not fair to expect us to know things like that, and it's especially not fair to say it's entirely our fault.

It doesn't matter that for you posting each others' characters is normal: in this forum it isn't, and, just like in real life, if you go somewhere new the onus is on you to be aware of the 'laws'/cultural differences.

Yes, it does. Like the example above, we came into your house, but you're playing our game.

The first place you'd look is some random thread in some random topic in a forum with a vast amount of sections? Yeah, right.

The first place you look is the thing that says "If you are new, please look at our Free Form RP Forums Guide page and/or videos before playing."

That's exactly what I did, and everything on that page for tips is met here.

There's a term "house rules" for a reason. We read the basic rules to playing in your home, and you're yelling at us for the house rules, that aren't easily found for people in our situation.

I think you've been very unfair here, and I don't appreciate it. When I found out it was unusual, what was the first thing I did? I explained our reasons, and explained that it's probably going to happen. I don't want to call the people out for being lazy, but honestly, that's what I saw it as.

I'm removing myself from this thread.

I agree with nanuk wholeheartedly, and while I hold nothing against you all as people, I cannot ignore my inner writer. She clings to the characters of her own creation and thinks this -

How boring, though. Then your character will only be how you see it, and will never get any new angles unless you see it. It's silly, if you ask me.

is a load of bullshit. Oh look. You've frustrated me enough to make me curse. The character is mine because I have made her, she thinks the way I want her to think and acts the way I believe she will act, because she is MINE. If you don't like it, well, fine. Honestly, I understand having a community character between close friends that know the character very very well. I'd let Zombie do just about all of my characters, and let nanuk do a few as well. But especially after all of this argument, I really do not feel comfortable staying in this situation.

So I bid you and your roleplay adieu. I hope we meet under a different GM and pleasanter situations.

Okay.

Seriously, I stated my opinion. That's how I feel about the restriction on other people using your character.

You want to say my opinion is bullshit? Whatever. I don't care, because I'm willing to understand it's your opinion and not freak out. Leave because you don't want to be involved in an RP where your character will be "bunnied" (I find that term miserably stupid...), not because my opinion is that the refusal for such is silly.

If you can't deal with me having that opinion, seriously, c'mon. Grow up.

Would you prefer puppeted? Manipulated? I choose bunnied because it strikes my fancy, sorry if it kills yours.

And by the way, I'm not leaving really because of your opinion, I'm leaving because I'm sick to death of dealing with the entire situation. I thought it was figured out, I even had put a little note next to my bio. But it was brought up again and again, and I'm tired of it. THATS why I'm leaving, hence the whole civil and polite ending to my last post, not a nasty and bitchy ending to that post.

Seriously, I stated my opinion. That's how I feel about the restriction on other people using your character.

Now that we've all got our opinions out...

I'm done arguing with you. I disagree with you, you disagree with me. I tried to end this pleasantly and remove myself from the situation, yet you continued to argue. I'm done, and I hope you are too. If not, then I will definitely see if I can't bring in a mod to help us figure it all out.

Cya.

glenn_frog_knight
06/12/2007 11:35 PM

Civil.

You called my opinion "bullshit", and you say you were civil.

If you want to leave, leave. The argument here, for me, isn't so much about playing someone else's character so much as it was that I feel that I was being treated extremely unfairly.

Whizkid7
06/13/2007 7:13 AM

Well...Uh...It seems this argument has ended on a rather sour note.

Glenn, there is really no reason to have continued this argument on like this. Yes, it's true that we're playing with our own rules. But how would you feel if you were playing a game with someone and in the middle of the game they change the rules on you? You would not feel the least bit irked by that? Well, that's similar to what we've done here. We changed the rules on our players without informing them beforehand that this was a rule. Yes, we did tell them that prior communication was a good thing. But we didn't mention that we would be using their characters in our own posts, or that we'd even consider it, and that much IS our fault. Regardless of what we think of their character, we have to respect their decision to keep sole control over them.

It's our duty as the GM/DM/however you want to see us to keep the players interested while informing them of the rules. Getting into an arugment with them over something so trivial as what THEY want to do with their character can destroy a game. It is their choice as to what happens with their character; Under no circumstances should we try to suggest that their choice is wrong or stupid or anything. It is their character, and they have the final say in whatever happens to them.

To Jay, I'm sorry to see you go. You character was just beginning to sound interesting. I wish the best of luck to you.

Now, can we please stop with the arguments and have some fun?

Aw, bless- treated you like crap? By stating the obvious- and politely (and without resorting to exclamation marks), I may add. Considering you were implying we were all ridiculous for wanting to adhere to one of the most commonly held beliefs in RPing I was sweetness and light in my reply.

It is not difficult to be polite and still treat someone like crap. It's not difficult to play it off as being sweet and nice and treat someone like crap.

It's not hard to make assumptions and stick with them when you're told you're wrong.

Well guys, let's not waste a good topic. Those who are leaving, bloody leave, and don't interrupt our roleplaying please. I'm gonna post, and I hope other people will reply.

By the way, someone needs to think of a way to bring my character into this lol, i'm off into my own world somehow and i'm not sure where to go. Do whatever to my character, I don't care at all. If you alter an idea that i'm doin in rping, i will work it into the story and correct it that way, not by spamming the ooc boards and by...forget it, i'm not getting into this...it's not worth it.

Please, please just drop it and get with roleplaying, this is a great topic, lets not waste it.
