From the Interest forum:

I have been wanting to do a Western RP for a while now, so here's my latest idea:

Imagine a world where gunslingers reign supreme, wreaking havoc with the local authorities. Some authorities are like these gunslingers too though, and they can wreak havoc on their dealings.

These gunslingers are special though, they have been born with a gift. A gift with many names.

The most common name for this gift among the Westerners is "the Hex," but you may know it as "Magic." They say it runs through everything with a pulse, and that if you're lucky, you can be its controller.

Then, there are the not so lucky ones, who have been corrupted by the Hex, and have transformed physically and mentally into creatures of a different sort. Vampires, werewolves and other nightmarish creatures have spawned from corruptions in the Hex.

This gift is hereditary, but if both parents are gifted, no special benefits are obtained by the offspring, as everyone is equal in this world.

From now on, users of the Hex shall be known as "Hexers."

The majority of the population isn't really all that bothered about the Hexers, unless they cause a ruckus, naturally.

The rest of the population has a more ... extremist perspective. One side think that Hexers are divine beings sent from another world.

The other extremist group thinks they are here to end the world. These people actively hunt the Hexers to skin them or scalp them, or whatever their preferred method is.

Natives also inhabit the West, and they also have access to the Hex, only they believe it is sacred, and should only be used in ceremonies. Of course, there are exceptions to this rule.

***************************

In case you were wondering, the Hex is like the Force from Star Wars, except it is visible when it is being controlled. It can be used for everything, form the mundane to the awe-inspiring, and it can leave its user exhausted.

There aren't really any factions. There are more gangs of gunslingers, and then a few lawmen that can use the Hex too. People who are "good" and "bad" will work together in this world, so long as they gain personally from it.

If you have any suggestions, don't hesitate to ... suggest them. If you have any questions ask them, too.

Also, as this is my first RP here, I may need some tips and advice on how to keep this steaming along.

Name: Atticus Harker

Age: 40

Gender: Male

Appearance: Atticus has a full head of dark-brown hair, which is kept neatly short. A brown trench coat covers most of his body, but is usually kept open. Under his coat he wears a grey jacket, and matching grey trousers. He also wears a grey armband around his left arm, emblazoned with a red eye.

In fact, he looks very like Revolver Ocelot:

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c315/Longheart/MGS1_Ocelot.jpg

Equipment: Atticus's weapon of choice is a dual hammer custom pistol called the Blue Rose. He carries it across his belly.

Back Story: Atticus comes from a long line of bounty hunters who specialise in Corruptions of the Hex, i.e., vampires and were-creatures. This lineage began with Atticus's great-grandfather Jonathan, who defeated many a fearsome creature.

Atticus's career has led him to begin writing a book, entitled "Compendium of the Hex, Volume Seven." It details the various creatures he has encountered during his travels, and the various ways to deal with them. The previous volumes were written by his ancestors.

Ocelot?
Sweet, lol.

Can I reiterate that I love this idea? I'm feeling a little Dark Towery ;)

So for those of us (me) ready to jump in.. do we have the option of knowing Atticus already or are we to get acquainted in the town?

Shall post my character sheet v shortly

Name: Susan Dennyson

Age: 31

Gender: female

Appearance: tall, lithe, what her Pa would've called gangly, with long blonde hair lightened by the sun and choppy-cut bangs spilling across her eyes. Usually wears light coloured buckskin trews, white man's shirt, a long sand coloured duster covering it all.

Equipment: matching unadorned colts slung low across her hips, a Winchester-type rifle in the saddle, also carries a crossbow for stealthier occasions

Back Story: She'd had little experience of the hex: her daddy'd been a small-time rancher, too many mouths to feed, the usual story. Then one day some people came.. and those mouths weren't an issue anymore, looking after the ranch wasn't an issue anymore. She'd survived, not unscathed by any means, packed her belongings and left.

Appearance: Young Clint Eastwood

Equipment: 2 Standard Issue revolvers + Pump-action Winchester rifle

until he discovered that the Sheriff of his particular district had been
laundering money from the town for his own personal gains. He called up
the food chain only to discover that the Corruption went high up the
Government ranks. So, Ed set off to stop this; his accuracy with his rifle
and his strong sense of ritcheousness as gained him the name:

I'm intrigued, so I suppose I shall jump into this, as more of a renegade, who does what he wants when he wants, for who he wants, so he works for both sides, but doesn't particularly hate either, nor like one side more than the other. Also, a hexer. :)

Name: Tommy Honch

Age: 25

Gender: Male

Appearance: Shaggy brown hair, with a brown trenchcoat as well as a black sleeveless shirt underneath and simple brown pants with black boots. (Idk western terms for all this, so work with me here. Western and gunfighting isn't my style, but this really caught my interest, so, I wish to learn. =D)

Equipment: Magic(Hex) enchanted rifle, which has a scope upon it as well as dual colts (if I can have em, if not, just regular revolvers). The rifle always strapped to his back, much like a bow, unless in use, while the colts rest in an X style upon his lower back. (I believe Dante had his guns like this in one of the games, not sure, but I'm sure you get the picture of how they are placed.

Back Story:Tommy learned of his abilites at the young age of 15, and from then on continued to study up on them as much as possible and learn to use them and master a few techniques. When he turned 18, he decided to become freelance to make easy money while also traveling to learn more upon his abilities as a hexer, but when he parents refused to allow him to pursure these goals, he killed them, leaving any part of his old life behind. He know wanders, studying and learning even more about hexing, while also taking random freelance/mercenary jobs for petty cash. sometimes hitting a nice payoff.

(If anyone finds anything wrong with this, please inform me, I'll be happy to make adjustments if needed. )

02/16/2007 8:21 PM

Name: Corey Scoggin

Age: 20

Gender: Male

Appearance: Short, dark brown hair, tan skin, blue eyes, no beard thanks to his mother's heritage. Wears a buckskin jacket over a shirt and pants of the same dark brown cloth. Pants go over the tops of his boots, which are typical and unadorned western riding boots. Wears his gun belted on the right, because he is left-handed. Ammunition belt is across the chest, with knife attached to the front of it. (sort of like the main character of the game Gun.)

Equipment: .50 hunting rifle (basically a sharps), 45. blued steel revolver (like the 45 cal. Schofield Single Action), a hunting knife and a tomahawk.

Back story: Corey's father was a hunter and trapper. His mother was a native who died in childbirth. Corey's father could use the hex, but didn't. He did not trust it, and his wife considered it sacred, so he just did things without it. His failure to heal Cory's mother with the hex as she bled to death increased his distrust almost to a hatred, and as a result Corey is completely unaware that his father was even able to use it. Corey grew up hunting and trapping with his father, seeing other folks only when they went to the natives or to town to trade. His father taught him enough math and reading to give him a chance to not be cheated by traders. He learned the language of his mother's tribe during his early childhood, when his father left him in the care of aunts and uncles during long hunting trips. He was not taught to use the Hex, and though he recently became aware of his ability to use it, he is reluctant to learn of its use because of his father's influence.

His father died recently, and after burying him next to his mother Corey left, consumed with the itch to travel.

Okay, let me know if I need to change anything before posting.

Hey, is it too late to Join? If not..I have a question..the answer doesn't mean I won't join if its a negative, just curious. ^^ If they are corrupted..say a WErewolf..one..are they a werewolf in the normal sense..full moon and all that jazz..or is it more of by choice I can shapeshift kind of thing, or emotional torment etc etc...And also, can these people, once corrupted, try to become good again? If so..does their sign of corruption go away?

Same for the Vampire...no sunlight, need blood, the usual? And again, do they have to be evil or could the corruption been something from their past they succumbed to and managed to begin to fight, if so, again do their signs of corrution go away and they revert back to normal human or do they remain that way?

Thankies ^^

Propaganda
02/22/2007 5:50 AM

Stetsuna, you can join if you want.

Werewolf Corruptions are permanently werewolves, they have no choice in the matter. They are basically humans who no longer have control of their own mind. They revert to their primal instincts. If you want you can be one, but you have to act as an animal with no spoken interaction between the other characters.

Vampires can survive in sunlight, as they are not the "classic" vampires. The Hex is constantly being drained from them, so they drink blood, the richest source of the Hex, to keep it topped up. Therefor, you can be a vegetarian "vampire" but you would have to eat a lot of vegetables to keep the same levels of the Hex as a blood drinker would have.

Hope that clears things up.

Name: Ashlyn O'Shay

Age: 19

Gender: Female

Appearance: She's fairly tall, about 5'9 in height, 5'10 with her trademark boots on. Her hair is a deep red color, more black with a sheen of red to it than any true red. Surprisingly, given that she spends a rather great time outdoors, her skin is more than a bit pale. Perhaps this has to do with her being corrupted as a vmpire, or perhaps it has to do with her ancestory..basically, if it was a british isle race, she has it in her. Her eyes are an interesting gray green color, with hints of blue. Rather like the water in a swamp. Her build is nothing special, neither slender nor fat. Decently curvy, with wide birthing hips, and a somewhat small waist. Unsurprisingly, she doesn't really show this figure off. Instead opting for more masculine attire that, often as not, actually hides her gender. A pair of rough travel worn pants, and a loose black shirt with a dark red vest thrown over it,. Her hair is almost always cut to be shoulder length, and nearly always held back into a ponytail, most of it hidden underneath a large brimmed black hat.

Equipment: Two boot knives (Cause you never know when you'd run out of ammo) a few hidden throwing knives on her person (Specifically strapped to her arms, and one hanging from a leather thong around her neck.) One pistol hangs at her hip, and another at the small of her back. On her other hip is a rather large hunting/skinning knife.

Back Story: She had a normal enough childhood, nothign too fancy. HEr dad was relatively wealthy, and her mom more or less was busy with soceioty things (not that they were exactly high society, but her mother had delusion of grandeur.) Ash spent most of her time with her two brothers, learning their ways, such as how to shoot how to fight and how to cuss. All of which she took to liek a duck to water. Perhaps, most importantly, she learned how to handle her hex. Her family didn't even know they had it, but one of her brothers had managed to find out that if he drank blood he could use the Hex powers..How he managed that discovery, ASh never asked.
Her life was happy enough, but she left one day, stealing her brothers clothes and weapons. The reason, simple: her dad wanted her to marry and she didn't want to. So, she wanders. She didn't leave that long ago, but already has seen a few...harsh things.

Hope that's okay. If I need to change anything, tell me.

Just a little update...

The world will expand when I can think of a suitable name for the town.

Christianity doesn't exist in this world. The main religion is worship of the Hex, and its followers don't believe in a 'Greater Being.' The Minister could have been a Priest of the Hex, and a Messiah of the Hex could have been crucified (I'm only saying this so nobody has to change their previous posts, and to clear things up).

There are also a few new creatures I would like to add, so here they are from Atticus's notes:

Vetala: A vetala is a primitive form of vampiric Corruption. It has no language, apart from feral hissing and spitting. They crawl on their hands and feet, similar to that of a werewolf. They are commonly sighted hanging upside down from the branches of dead trees.

Troll: Trolls are usually thought of as Corruptions, but they are actually not. They prefer to live on their own, away from humanity. They have their own language used for communicating with each other, and there are records which indicate that they are capable of speaking human languages. They look like grotesquely oversized humans, especially in the upper body.

Ogre: Ogres are similar to trolls in that they are big, lumbering human-like creatures. Ogres are in fact Corruptions, complete with the primal drive of an animal.

Chupacabra: A chupacabra is more akin to a werewolf than anything else. It is in fact a sub-species of werewolf, which prefers to feast on livestock (its name means 'goat sucker'). They are Corruptions, which feed on the blood of animals rather than humans.

Edit: Tejanio is the Mexico of the world. Any suggestions for a name for the North America are welcome.

The town we are currently in is called Morrigan's Hill.

From the almighty Wikipedia:

Jascon/Jasconius is an enormous fish in the story of Saint Brendan. Because of its size Brendan and his fellow voyagers mistake it for an island and land to make camp. They celebrate Easter on the sleeping giant's back, but awaken it when they light their fire. They race to their ship, and Brendan explains that the moving island is really Jasconius, who labours unsuccessfully to put his tail in its mouth.

So...

I was thinking Jasconica or something like that. After all, the myth of Saint Brendan states that he found America in about 530. It all makes sense that way, especially because I have been drawing on Celtic and Irish mythology for the background (the Irish did build America, as we all know).

Yay, now I can keep my sanity!

Okay, I hate to be a wanker, but there are a few problems with this.

1. The name. You can be Sparrow, Hawk, Sparrow the Hawk or something, but just not SparrowHawk as one word.

2. Grammar. "Wheres a black cow boy hat" should be something like "wears a black cowboy hat" or "wears a broad-brimmed hat the colour of the night sky."

3. Shotgun. A scoped shotgun would be useless. If you were looking down the scope and fired, the recoil would leave looking like a Cyclops.

4. Hex-related. A Native would not be exiled for using the Hex outside of a ceremony, as the use of it may have been justified (self-defence or something). Also, they don't strictly reserve the Hex for special occasions, merely preferring to use it at those times.

Lastly, it will be too hard to explain all of the inter-connecting story lines right now, so would you please just read the RP.

Once again, I'm not trying to pick on you, just a lack of accuracy kind of annoys me.

Um just so you know I own a shotgun with a scope in real life for deer hunting, and my eyes alright. I bet you have never shot a shot gun.

If you put a rifle scope on a shotgun it will hit your eye when it recoils. Shotgun scopes are made with a longer eye relief so that the recoil doesn't leave you with blood dripping into your eye.

In the 19th century western era, which I assume the technology in this world is supposed to be based on, rifle scopes extended pretty much the length of the rifle and did not magnify by more than about 4x. They were also very rare, and shotgun scopes were nonexistent. Scopes on rifles did not become popular in civilian populations in the US until after WWII.

This is fantasy though, and if Propoganda wants to make optic technology more advanced than it was in real life and allow a shotgun scope, I have no problem with it.

I do wonder how you would kill a bison with a shotgun, unless you were using a slug, in which case a rifle would probably be more accurate.

I'm guessing the name SparrowHawk comes from EarthSea. I can't think of any reason why I would want to be a [url:http://www.rspb.org.uk/Images/sparrowhawk_tcm3-22240.jpg]sparrowhawk, anway :).

Well, that's all very good and all, but your real life is not a 19th century fantasy setting.

You can have a shotgun, but get rid of the scope. Otherwise, you can have a scoped rifle.

And as Benjmn said, shotgun scopes were nonexsistent, so that pretty much sums it up.

There, now it is settled.

Why hasn't anyone posted in over a week? Is this dead?

I hope not. I was waiting for Luna to post in response to me before I posted again. If you want, I can go ahead and post again; I don't think she would mind.

Yeah, I think it is safe to post. Luna can post afterwards anyway.

Sorry for the intrusion but I believe Luna said she wouldn't be online as much- having to build a computer (Diva?) and what with having a new boyfriend and all.
I may be wrong, but I'm fairly certain I recall something of that nature.

Iorlas, that's a good character but I have some bad news.

We already have a half native character, Corey. Also, we have a hunter of Corruptions, Atticus. If you could modify Blair's bio, then you can join.

So which is it? I have to change my race because someone else has that race already? Or i have to edit my profile to fit a different type of character because you already have a slayer type character?

That's too bad. At least you handled the situation maturely, so maybe some other time.

Just let this thread die. I have run out of ideas for it, and I really want to do something different.

Although it is interesting to point out that when I put a meaning in each of my posts, the thread boomed. Just something to think about.

Farewell, my first thread!
