Name: Theocritus

Race: Minotaur

Gender: Male

Age: 127 (minotaurs live for three hundred years, catmen six hundred)

Weapons and Armour: A pike, a short sword and hoplite armour. He also has, of course, his horns, which have never failed him yet.

Magical Abilities: None.

Class: Warrior.

Appearance: Jet black fur, two yard long horns and brown eyes. As a minotaur he has a bovine head with a very muscualr human body. His legs start off human but end up with bull's legs below the thigh with cleft hooves for feet. When not in uniform, Theocritus wears a long black toga and minotaur sandals. He stands four or five heads over a man and has a very intimidating air over other races.

Personality: Very arrogant as minotaurs go, he feels highly superior to the 'weaker races' and only acknowledges orcs and humans as his equals (orcs for brute strength, humans for organisation). He shares his race's bitter hatred toward catmen. Besides from that he rather preace-loving and would rather be walking through a graden or working out in a gym than being forcemarched through muddy fields and killing things. Hold little or no regard for gods, as he feels they have done nothing for him so far.

Skills: He is fluent at speaking, writing and reading in all the Races' languages, he can swim and cook and is also capable of constructing simple shelters and first aid.

History: Theocritus was born into a rich scholar family and was raised as such. When he came of age, he chose to abandon the scholarly life his family had and become a warrior. For the next fifty years of his life he was vigorously trained by the Iron Hoof platoon and was taught pretty much all he knows now. His life since then was uneventful, for the war was a cold one to begin with. Now that the war has finally gotten hotter, Theocritus was the first to volunteer his services to the front lines and was moved to the Minotaur/Catman borders.

Extras: Theocritus also works as a proffesional wrestler (a popualr occupation amongst minotaurs) and is pretty well known and liked amongst his people.

Alright, this looks like one I could get into.

Name: Ssarl

Race: Catmen

Gender: Male

Age: Unknown for the most part. But visually, one can observe that he is quite old.

Weapons and Armour: Ssarl carries no physical weapons, or armor in the traditional sense.

Any Magical Abilities: Ssarl is a mystic and commands respected but limited power over the elements of the desert in which the catmen live. He also has limited prophetic and fortune-telling powers and some skill with necromancy.

Class (Warrior, mage, priest, clerk etc): Mystic

Appearance (Include clothes, distinguishing features and the like): Ssarl wears well-worn robes that hang heavily on his slight and withered form. The robes and cloak he wears fall to the floor and drag behind him as he walks, their colors are that of the desert, sun-bleached and faded greys. One cannot see above his jaw for he wears the skull of a large ram on his head, it's dry, white horns curling menacingly.

Personality: Mysterious, prophetic and unpredictable. Ssarl often speaks in mysteries and secrets, but his hatred for the minotaur is well known and goes back to a past long forgotten.

Skills (Languages, swimming, cooking etc): fortune-telling, poisons and potion mixing

History: Ssarl was orphaned and starving on the streets of Jikalab. The catmen have always had a mystic living in the capital, kind of like a village witch doctor and it was this mystic who took an intrest in the dirty and abandoned Ssarl and raised him as an apprentice. Ssarl turned out to be a highly gifted student, a natural with the arcane and natural forces of the earth. Eventually, the master died and Ssarl naturally took his place.

Anything else essential:
Ssarl lives on the outskirts of Jikalab, alone in his own tent. The mystics of the catmen have always lived as outcasts but they are also highly reverred and respected by the population. Sultans have come to them to have their fortunes read, or perhaps for advice in upcoming battles. But they also serve the lowliest of citizens, performing burial rituals or even conjuring curses or hexes at the request of distraughtlovers, or betrayed friends. Ssarl has no real friends and no real enemies among the catmen, but he is fiercly loyal to his people and will serve any cause that brings harm or death to the minotaur across the border. Also, Ssarl is blind, but (stereotypically) sees much and should not be underestimated.

Name: Ventuvius

Race: Catman

Gender: Male

Age: roughly 200

Weapons and Armour: Ventuvius prefers the art of stealth combat. He brings as little metal with him as possible, usually only a poisoned dagger or the like. He usually wears tan cloth to blend in with the howling sands of the desert, but when he ventures into the mountains he will exchange the desert tan for the mountain red.

Any Magical Abilitues: Ventuvius has mastered a small art of wind control. He can summon the winds and create a fair-sized wind storm. Though doing so exhausts him to the point to where he can only do it once every two or three days.

Class (Warrior, mage, priest, clerk etc): Assassin (rogueish)

Appearance (Include clothes, distinguishing features and the like): Ventuvius has orangish fur with a white belly. He is of average height and weight for the catmen and has no distinguishing markings. He blends in a crowd very well, which is why he is so good at what he does. He wears clothes that blend in with whatever surroundings he is in.

Personality: Ventuvius is mostly a loner. He is rather laid-back and relaxed. Most people are scared to approach him, but he's really an easy guy to get along with. He cares mostly about himself, but if someone he calls a friend is in danger, he will fight valiantly in their defense.

Skills (Languages, swimming, cooking etc): Ventuvius is a skilled climber. He spent years with the elves, honing his stealth, climbing, and archery skills. While he is a good archer, he doesn't carry a bow and arrows around with him, claiming they're too bulky to maintain proper stealth.

History: Ventuvius had fallen in love with an elf while studying with them, but her parents would never allow such an engagement. So she planned to elope with Ventuvius, but was killed in a minotaur raid on the way. Ventuvius vowed revenge for her death and feels personal revenge against the minotaurs is his life's purpose.

Anything else essential: Ventuvius is the son of a rich jewel merchant. His parents are willing to support him however they can, so Ventuvius has access to easy money, though he rarely does so. He doesn't feel a need to live in luxury, mostly just secluding himself and readying for any opportunity to get revenge against the minotaurs.

Please be aware that you are not restricted to minotaurs or catmen, you can also be one of the other three Races, which include Humans, Orcs or Elves (you may also include any other Race you'd like to play as, but these are the main ones), who joined a side voluntarily for some reason (for example, the character admires the Race in question). If this wasn't apparent at first then I apologise and anyone who wishes to change their character please do so before we get started.

Eh, I've always had a fascination with feline beings. I prefer cats over dogs as pets. So my choice is good for me. ;) Besides, about the only other race that I could think of that would be as good suited for assassins would be an undead shade or something. Somehow, I doubt that would be very, er, good(?) for the story?

Race: Orc
Gender: Male
Age: 30

Weapons and Armour: An iron-bound greatclub of oak hardened by time, use and fire, black ring armor, iron bracers, and a dagger.

Any Magical Abilities: Not really magical, but will occasionally beserk

Class (Warrior, mage, priest, clerk etc): Warrior

Appearance (Include clothes, distinguishing features and the like): Skin is a dark green, really ugly face, with the protuding tusks, piglike eyes and whatnot. His ears bear many piercings, three of which on one ear and two on the other bear gold rings. Very muscular, leaves arms bare from shoulder to elbow except for an iron band around each bicep, wears animal skins so dirty that they defy identification over his blackened ring armor. His black, coarse hair he keeps in a long braid that has random bits of bone and other nasty things in it.

Personality: Rather unpleasant, very rude, easily angered, though his anger can be turned to laughter as often as not. Has a great love of money, killing, and alcohol. Does not care for any race in particular, though he wonders how minoutaur meat would taste and desires a catman fur. Elves and humans he already knows the taste of and considers their skins useless. He pretends to be less intelligent than he is, though he is not the brightest crayon in the box.

Skills (Languages, swimming, cooking etc): You would not want to touch his cooking. He can swim, and can speak the trade language well enough to get by. Has a pretty good understanding of human languages, and a smattering of catmen. He can only read and write in orcish, and he cannot do that very well. Can do basic hide preservation, and carries a skinning knife at all times.

History: He grew up with a tribe of orcs whose chief sources of income were pillaging and trade with the catmen. They preyed on whoever was available, except for the catmen, because that was bad business. They were not entirely isolated from the world, and so heard of the war between the Minotaur and the Catmen. He loved money above all else, so he considered which side would give him the most opportunity for pillaging. The answer was obvious to him. The catmen were the wealthiest race, and so sacking their strongholds would bring in the most gold. Where he would spend the gold he did not think about so much. So he made his way to the minotaurs, and offered his services. They would not let him into their cities, but were willing to let him kill catmen. So he finds himself on the border.

If that does not work, I have a minotaur in mind.

As a student at a university whose mascot is a longhorned steer named Bevo, how could I not side with the bovine warriors?

Anyway, I am not sure how long my big stupid and smelly orc will believably last against agile assassin-like bipedal feline predators who live for six centuries, but it will be fun to write as him.

Actually, on the open battlefield, the minotaurs and orcs and any other race with a very heavy build would naturally have the advantage. Agility serves best in one-on-one fights. When you get into a large mass with sharp pointy objects being waved every which way, your movements are kinda limited. Every fighting style has its own perks and drawbacks. *shrugs*

And on another noe, Tetrius, how many people were you hoping to get before kicking this off?

Yes, but outside of battle, your orcy dude will be hanging around minotaurian encampments, yes? So, an assassin sent to a minotaurian encampment would most likely be targeting someone of military rank, not some mercenary. Unless, of course, you prove yourself to be the strongest of all the warriors on the battlefield. Then you might have to worry about assassins. ;) But, in all reality, your orcy dude shouldn't have [i]too[/i] much to fear, considering it's all-out war here. :P

We can start now actually, who wants to go first?

You're the one that came up with the idea, I'd say it's most fair for you to start things off. ;)

Personality: Dark and secretive, and honourable.
Skills: Knows human, Elf and cat speech, theifing and magic.
History:He grew up in an forgotten Elf village. His mom and dad died at childhood, so he had to fend for himself his whole life. Soon he took up theiving, which was how he got his money. At an early age he started learning magic by himself due to the fact he was an Elf.

[b]Weapons and Armour:[/b] She wears chainmail when she's expecting to face trouble, but usually goes without. Besides her natural weapons, she carries a dagger and a sap.
[b]Any Magical Abilites:[/b] Maa'sma is versed in the healing arts, and has deduced how to reverse the spells to cause harm as well.
[b]Class:[/b] Healer and Merchant (she travels to share her healing skills and discover new tools for the trade, funding herself largely through her efforts as a merchant)

[b]Appearance (Include clothes, distinguishing features and the like):[/b] Short, tawny fur covers Maa'sma from head to foot, with a few exceptions. The soles of her feet and palms of her hands are free of fur and covered with thick, almost leathery skin. Her head has long hair the same color as her fur that she dyes in gold and black stripes and wears woven into three braids. Her eyes are large, almond shaped, and bright gold with a green beauty mark near the bottom of her left iris. Her nose is on the flatter side of average and her lips are wide and full. High cheekbones and a strong jaw finish shaping her face.

When tending a patient, Maa'sma wears simple clothes of plain cotton, close-fitting and clean. When traveling, her favored wardrobe is a sleeveless tunic and long pants in light green silk topped with a sage and gold striped linen robe. At leisure, her clothes are more exotic and of obvious quality. She favors greens and golds, silk and fine linen either woven with patterns or embroidered.

[b]Personality:[/b] Maa'sma seems to many casual acquaintances to be a contradiction, sometimes serious and intent on her tasks while other times she seems carefree and in search of nothing more than a new distraction. In truth, Maa'sma sees life as something that should be enjoyed, and so pours herself into every pleasurable aspect of her life. She enjoys helping heal the sick and wounded, becoming almost single-minded in the process; she frequently neglects her need to eat and sleep when there is something she could be doing for a patient.

When she has no patients, Maa'sma is a pleasure-seeker. She refuses to indulge in anything self-destructive, but otherwise has the opinion that people should be allowed to do what they want so long as nobody is hurt in the process. Her favorite indulgences are honeyed dates, Elven perfumes, carved ivory jewelry, and books.

While Maa'sma understands the long emnity between her people and the minotaurs (insofar as she wants her people to win), she has little desire to fight. She will go on missions to fight them for two reasons: to protect someone she cares for, or for an incredibly high price. Even then, she prefers not to engage the enemy, instead staying back and healing the wounds of her companions after the battle.

[i]Herbalism:[/i] she knows how to use plants and other natural elements for healing and, to a lesser extent perfumes and beauty products
[i]Cooking:[/i] Her food's edible, but she's no gourmet chef and tends to make the same few things over and over
[i]Languages:[/i] she speaks her native tongue, the common Human language, and Elven; she can read the native language and common human but is still learning to read Elven.
[i]Barter:[/i] Maa'sma knows the traditions of trading among her own people as well as the humans and elves with whom they trade most frequently
[i]Magic:[/i] Maa'sma knows that ebb and flow of the body, and has studied many forms of healing. With this knowledge comes the ability harm, as well: all magic can be reversed.

[b]History:[/b] Maa'sma had a typical childhood: parents, siblings, and an extended family that included nearly everyone who lived around the oasis she was born at. She has always been a caregiver, always the first to stop play when another child was injured to help them feel better and walk them home. She still considers that place her home, although she left it when she was old enough to travel and study. She now resides primarily in Jikalab, where she rents a room from a family to whom she is very distantly related; she calls the owners her aunt and uncle.

In her dedication to becoming a healer (and to satisfy her curiosity), Maa'sma spent much of her youth traveling. She lived for a decade each among the Elves and the Humans, learning their healing arts and cultures. She has no great desire to return to either, prefering the company of her own kind, though she does visit the elves she befriended from time to time (Elven weddings being a party not to miss, she's learned).
After traveling abroad, she moved to Jikalab to apprentice and study under a respected healer, a man not yet middle-aged whose magical abilities in the art were highly regarded but who still lacked experience in several fields. She also took lessons at night with a midwife and herbalist who had no magical skills but a great deal of practical knowledge.

When her apprenticeship ended, a merchant she'd treated a few years earlier asked him to sign on with his caravan, as he was old and feared his own failing health. She agreed, and spent the next two years traveling with him, using her skills to keep him comfortable while learning his trade on the sly. She saw in it the potential to provide enough for herself while treating the poor without charging fees they could never afford.

Now she spends half the year traveling, trading and healing as the situation warrants, and half the year in Jikalab.

Sadly, for me, that really [i]isn't[/i] detailed. Detailed, for me, is listing what she usually has for breakfast and explaining how she got that scar on her knee during a particularly rough game of keepaway when she was seven. ;)

Yeah...sorry. I bought World of Warcraft. Between that and work I have not posted, well, anywhere, on this forum or others. I have checked a few times, but have not been able to think of anything to post, and just saw that I missed my cue. Should I post as if I was invited on the mission or as if I remained at the fort?

race: Minotaur

weapons and armor: He carries a large halberd, and a sword and shield for backup. He wears greaves and a heavy breastplate.

any magical abilities: He has a special attack where he slams his Halberd into the ground creating a deadly wave of force.


Appearance: Dalarak is huge even by Minotaur standards. When not garbed for war he favors a brown robe that is well worn. his hair is black and he has 3 foot long horns with gold rings at the base. his beard is braided, and he braids a section of his coat for each kill in battle. He currently has 40 braids and he is not old yet. He bears a huge scar on his chest, and his body is seamed with smaller ones.

Personality:While not entirely simple, he is not terribly bright, and outside of war is very gentle and loving. He has a fondness for small animals and flowers, as well as gourmet cooking. Inside of battle however he is very skilled and obscenely strong.

Skills: Fighting; he is a very skilled warrior with both polearms and swords. Cooking; he is an excellent chef, and often entertains notions of doing it professionally.
Languages; he speaks only minotaur and is barely literate, able to read only the most basic orders, and write barely more then his own name

History: His small village was raided when he was but a calf by catmen raiders. his family was killed and he recieved a head injury which it is speculated makes for his somewhat simple-minded nature. He has sworn revenge on the catmen for killing his family so abominably. So he joined the army hoping for war with the catmen

anything else essential: he is really sweet and goodhearted under his fearsome size and ferocity in battle

I've never imagined a minotaur with a beard before...oh well. You can start off either at Kraetos (the minotaur fort) or the sappers' tunnel.

Never mind about the grammar, it's simply preference. And the beard can stay too, it was simply a remark that I've never considered that minotaurs could have beards (since I've never seen a cow with a beard).

I'm here. I'm not really sure what I'm waiting for. I was going to wait and see what was gonna happen with that big human army wandering around and how they were going to relate to the felines. But oh well.. I'll post. not much going on right now except plodding through the desert.

As far as the passage of time within the context of the story is concerned, the catman army will at least have another full day before they reach Kraetos. That gives Ventuvius a whole other day within the tunnel and the sappers a whole other day to reach jikalib.

Actually, I was going to let you deicde what the Humans were going to do Marion, which was why I left them alone. I'd rather let another player decide the allegiance of the army. so if anyone's interested the army is up for grabs and can swing the story either way.

It will probably take Ventuvius that full day to catch up to the main portion of the minotaur sappers. And as for that army, I've got nothing to say on it. Or, rather: I'll let someone else decide.

ill take control of the samurai army, and add them to the minotaurs, it seems to me that the catmen would have a larger army to begin with, plus they have the dark elves. the human muskets would be less effective against the more lithe and smaller catmen, then against the huge minotaurs.
