Here's the concept I suggested earlier. Practically every species with any ambition has gathered in this city, and dozens of bands now vie for dominance. For more on the story, see Medieval-Based Dystopia in the RP Interest forum. So, here are the main types of characters needed for the RP -

- Band leaders

- Band members (soldiers)

- Solitary warriors, who prefer not to give allegience to one band

- Mercenaries

- Solitary characters, whose main purpose isn't in the bands' conflict

I'll be using a few NPCs, mainly Niall. To clarify, Tanau's men forced him into exile, but killed his other siblings - a great warrior's remaining bloodline, who might dethrone him when the fighting ends. He wandered the lands, gaining enough skill in combat to honourably kill Tanau. He assumes his family are either dead or have left, which is more than likely.

You're welcome to join whenever you like - approval isn't needed, and you're allowed to be Tanau if you like. Just go ahead and jump in.

The typical character profiles are appreciated too. I'll post mine soon.

Niall

Age: 24

Gender: Male

Class: Ranger/rogue

Primary weapon: Knives, sword, bow

Armour: Light (leather)

Appearance: Messy, dark hair; normally clean-shaven; brown eyes; medium height, built; tanned

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Background:
Niall is a wanderer, a vagabond to most lands except his father's. Rumours of his existence are whispered in secret, that one last member of Moen's bloodline still exists. Tanau, the band leader who many expect to win the conflict, had his siblings killed to ensure the fallen hero's line couldn't take the throne which would probably be his. Though, in Moen's honour, he let one of them live, making sure he wouldn't return. Though in his fury, Niall swore to himself constantly that Tanau would die for killing his family and ridding the city of his legendary blood when it was needed. Unlike his honourable-to-the-end father, he sees the benefit in using methods of getting by which are usually looked down on, but believes firmly in dignity and fairness when fighting, if anything. He'll often use his skills for money and whatever else can be traded, when there's a well-protected jewel to be taken, or someone who can't be allowed to live and longer.

Hey again, Pillage. Have to say, I'm liking the idea and the first post. Had to kick around how I wanted to play this one.

I'm going for a band leader sort of character. The overly-ambitious make. The kind of guy that would probably ally himself with someone like Tanau if he thought that was the best path to his own success.

Redryn Gale

Age: 36

Gender: Male

Weapons: An intricately crafted sword that's mostly for show and a curved knife.

Armor: Heavy Cloth

Appearance: Usually well-groomed, but with the conflict in the city, tends to be grimy, something that wears on him. Light brown hair, cropped relatively short. Blue eyes. Smallish size, medium height, but slight of build. Pale skinned.

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Background: Redryn Gale is a career politician, ever the one to strike at an opportunity for power. Through deception and cunning, he's always found himself well looked upon by the people he strives to dominate, but has never achieved any great power. His greatest ability is speechcraft, where he usually finds just the right words to get the reaction he needs. In the realm of politics, he's unmatched, but is inexperienced in combat situations.

With the conflict in Adanmegil, he's ventured there for the hope of finally gaining the power he so desperately covets. With a few stirring words, and the promise of plenty of glory, power, and plunder, he's formed band of merciless, but generally unskilled, warriors. In all likelihood, his main strategy would be to give the impression of strength to other bands and look to ally himself with those that could crush him otherwise.

I'm going out of town tomorrow (probably today when you read this), so I'll have to wait until Wednesday to post in the RP. If you have any problems, or suggestions, let me know.

Ah, this should be interesting. When you get back, go ahead and post in the main RP.

Bard Ravenshadow

Age: 26
Gender: Male
Race: Elf
Class: Rogue
Primary Weapon: Four Blades (exotic weapon, pair of double-sided black daggers)
Appearance: Coal-black hair, tied back; dark gray eyes; tall, very thin.
Alignment: Neutral
Background: Bard is a descendant from an ancient elf bloodline, one of the noble families that ruled the city before chaos took over. As a child he had trained to become a scribe in one of the libraries now used as a fortress for one of the fighting gangs controlling the metropolis. In the slow process of corruption creeping into the city his family of elven heritage was completely eradicated and he was left with nothing but single room in an over-occupied building, more than most in the city can claim to. Eventually he had to resort to thievery and found his nimble body was perfect for it, but his sharp mind was also good for retaining information. Twelve years later he is probably the best Knowledge-Merchant (a polite word for spy) in Adanmegil. He had worked for the few remaining nobles in the last years of law and didn't have to adapt too much to work for bandleaders. He manages to keep out of the way of more dangerous bands by choosing only certain high paying, low profile jobs. Working as little as he does, he stays in a higher financial class being also a seller of herbs from the far kingdoms of the south, the kind that are smoked for pleasure and frowned upon by many. Bard has killed a person or two, but only because he believed it completely necessary.

Here is my character. I'll change the character background if you don't feel it fits the storyline, but I really like the idea of having a "spy" kind of character.

Loth

Age: 58

Gender: Male

Class: Warrior

Primary weapon: Bow, sword

Armour: None

Appearance: Medium height for an elf; silvery-blonde short hair; grey eyes; fairly prematurely aging

Alignment: Lawful Good

Background:
When the high-elves ruled, Loth was the king's personal bodyguard, and an acquaintance of Moen's. In the current anarchy, he takes to exploring the city and walking through enemy territory to pass the time. Though he's considered a friend to the wood-elves, the half-evles consider him an enemy, in retaliation to his race's newfound scepticism of them. Though he now has no king to serve, he's allied with the city's remaining high elves, who exist under no warlord, but still wander the city and look out for each other - even fight together when it's necessary.

I'll post a more detailed explanation of the relationship between elves later. For now, I need sleep.

Regarding elves

Before the fall, all elves lived contently, though wood elves were even rarer then. Of course, some of the high elves were cautious about their half-blood brethren, but the rest happily acepted them. Though when order was lost and the bands formed, thse who had previously tolerated the half-elves became more wary of them, even attacking them at times. Most of the half-elves assumed the Imperials had taken a swipe at their throne, while trying to rid it of all but pure elves, and retaliated. Though many know this was just a misunderstanding, groups of high elves and half-elves still fight. Most prominent are the band of half-elves who now control the city's gates, and refuse to budge for their former allies. Of course, the Imperials live a lifestyle which requires many spies to support their folk, and can do it themselves if need be. The wood-elves, rare but not unheard of, are often found either suppporting both sides or taking one, but never against both.

Sorry about the slow-posting, but unfortunately it won't be remedied too fast. Getting ready to move, so things are a little hectic here, and will be for the next week. I'll try to get another post in tomorrow, but then it'll probably be a couple of days after that.

Because of my above statements, feel free to handle this scene however you'd like, Bard. I only ask that you not kill Grell and Erik. If you'd like to handle it more slowly with some back and forth, then that's cool too. It'll just be a couple of days before I can be sure I'll have the time.

I guess they weren't kidding when they said patience was a virtue.

And, just because I realized I don't really have much in the way of descriptions of the lesser characters I've thrown in here, and don't want to edit the posts I've already put up, I'll include short descriptions here.

Hargon "Briarback"

A tall, well-built man. Has bushy brown hair and a thick beard. Has a massive battle axe strapped to his back. Hairy arms and back.

Ulman

Small man. Gray hair, with deep wrinkles around his mouth. Usually an upbeat person. Still wearing his vestment robes.

Grell

Burly, but not terribly large. Close-cropped black hair with a thick mustache.

Erik

Slender, with long, black hair. His shirt is sleeveless and he wears short gloves.

DarkRogue
10/02/2005 5:30 AM

Rogue

Background: Despite her present position in society, Rogue is rightfully the first child of the third house of Dark Elves. Her mother, Na'talah, gave birth to her fatherless, in the depths of the Underdark. Rogue nearly was accepted as a Drow, if it wasn't for Arwen, Na'talah's sister, who found out about Na'talah's secret tryst. The council didn't believe Arwen at first, seeing the rivalry between her and her sister, but when Rogue reached 9 years of age, her demonic side started to surface. Na'talah had nothing to deny, as the council took action. Na'talah was killed before Rogues very eyes and Rogue was banished.

Ten years, of wandering from town to town. Rogue learned how to survive and some Dark Magic from a necromancer. She nows finds a living upon doing dark deeds and stealing what ever crosses her interest in her travels.

Anything needed to be changed...?

Uscias Slevin

Age: 38

Gender: Male

Race: Human

Alignment: Lawful Evil

Weapons: Tiger claws, large one-sided battle axes

Armour: Ususally none other than red cloth

Appearance: Beginning to age, dark eyes, short black (grey-streaked) hair, tall, built

Background:
Uscian dwelled in the mountain regions as a soldier until Adanmegil's fall, at which point a few of the more corrupt fortune-seekers moved there to form and join bands. He left with a friend, who was killed not long after, when his gang was ambushed. Uscian instantly looked for the best-known leader, found Tanau, and gave the powerful boss his loyalty. Soon he became Tanau's top bodyguard, and at times paid killer. He's known as one of Adanmegil's most feared men, between his skillful weilding of heavy weapons, and his disregard of life and death - even his own.

Well, I fear it could be a while before I come back here. You two are doing pretty well with the thread - one of you can take it in my absence. And if you can find a good Uscias, Tanau (who the GM could take) and Loth, by all means give them the character. I was thinking the elves could take care of Niall for now, and Loth takes his place while he's being nursed. So Niall doesn't really show up again until they face the enemy.

Good luck with it, all.
