I've got my character pretty much worked-out, but I have a few questions.

I didn't know what kind of power-level you wanted, so I assumed the rough equivalent of 5th-level: powerful enough not to be completely useless, but weak enough to keep things challenging.

How closely are we sticking to AD&D rules? I have some old sourcebooks; should I dig those out and use them to determine my character's exact skills?

I'm not a really tough stickler for the AD&D Rules.... you don't need to dig out the source books. :) The real reason behind this is to help new members with their Post-by-Post RP Skills :D

06/07/2005 4:13 PM

Name: Conrad Greycloak
Race: Human
Class: Fighter/Rogue
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Age: 27
Hair: short, dark brown (and a mustache)
Eyes: brown
Height: 5'7"
Build: slightly stocky, muscular but not burly

Weapons: Sabre; light crossbow; small quiver of quarrels; five concealed daggers

Armour: A rather shabby patchwork of leather, chain and plate, scrounged from various battlefields. Topped off with an extremely ugly fur vest. The AC-equivalent of splint mail.

Skills: Can keep his weapons clean and in good condition. Adequate skills at tracking and wilderness survival (although naturally not as good as a ranger). Fairly stealthy. Very good with ropes, bridles and knots.

Conrad's mother died shortly after his birth and he was raised by his father, the notorious highwayman Tarkin Greycloak. The young boy grew up, embracing his father's defiant individualism, although he gradually came to doubt the wisdom of banditry as a profession. As it turned out, Conrad's fears were justified, and he spent his fourteenth birthday seeing his father hanged at the gallows.

Conrad stayed for a time with the old gang of brigands, then moved to the city, where he survived by getting odd jobs and supplementing his income with petty thievery. At eighteen, he found himself drafted into the army of the local baron. Finding the regimented military life intolerable, he deserted within weeks, in the aftermath of a skirmish with a nearby goblin tribe. He was presumed to be among the dead, and was not pursued. Conrad headed north, and spent the next several years variously as a mercenary and as a bodyguard for merchant caravans.

When he was 25, a merchant train that he was guarding became lost in a blizzard on its way to the remote northern mining town of Devon. They were set upon by the armsmen of a corrupt local lord. Faced with superior odds and disoriented in the storm, the merchants and their men were mostly cut down. Conrad fled, but became lost in the snowstorm for many hours. He almost froze to death, but fortuitously came upon a small monastery run by priests of Pelor. The priests took him in and Conrad was so struck by their kindness and evident inner peace that he converted to the worship of Pelor during his stay.

For the past two years, Conrad has returned to somewhat less arctic climes. He does his best to pursue work that will serve the cause of good, but has found that the desire to maintain a clear conscience prevents him from accepting the more lucrative jobs available for mercenaries. More often then not, he finds himself helping poor people for no fee beyond room and board for a few days. Despite his consequent poverty, he maintains his enthusiastic desire to emulate the great and noble paladins of bardic tales.

Note: I chose the god Pelor more-or-less randomly. He's the god of light and goodness from the Greyhawk pantheon. I don't know what kind of religous system this game has, but I have no problems changing this to a different god of good that's more appropriate to this setting.

Conrad good job. The character looks good.

Magician can you give your character a short history. Also, where do the healing techs come from? The wand? Also, silver isn't a very good metal for a sword...it's be broken in two in no time.

Kaila, would you like me to put up something for Thèrves? Also I can play other NPC people in the town and on the road etc.

06/07/2005 7:20 PM

Name: Angelanthas Kalinysas
Race: Elf
Class: Ranger
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Age: 255
Hair: Rich Mahogany
Eyes: Blue Sapphire
Height: 5'3"
Build: Lilthe

Weapons: Two longswords, six daggars, a quiver of arrows and bow.
Abilities: Animal Empathy, Alertness, Ambidexterity, Blind Fight, Two-Weapon Fighting. (Plus whatever else comes with most rangers.)

Animal Companion:

Talathar, the Black Wolf. Talathar has a white star on his forehead, four white paws, and a white tipped tail. His amber eyes speak of an intelligence far more superior to his brethren.

Brief History: Angel has lived on the borders of Syndar for many years now. She prefers the solitude of the forest and nature. Many times, she acts as a sentry for the small town, ensuring the town will be safe from rogue orcs and bands of goblins.

Angel is the aunt of the druid, Arlissah. If not out in the forest somewhere, she is found in the druid's home, talking about the animals and creatures she keeps company with while Talathar "plays" with the caracal.

Edit: Angel is Arlissah's aunt and friend. ;)

Name: Kail Swiftsong
Race: Human
Class: Paladin
Alignment: Chaotic Good
Age: 26
Hair: Flaming Red
Eyes: Emerald Green
Height: 5'11"
Build: Medium, fit

His only weapon, one that has been with him for the last 7 years of his life is a two-handed 3 1/2' steel Long-sword. The magnificent sword has exquisite silver decor on the pommel and crossguard as well as a black leather bound hilt. It was presented to him by his teacher when he completed his training. His teacher was a well respected swordsman, who taught him all the skills he now pocesses. With him he also carries a brown travel sack containing food, water, a thin bedroll and various minor healing herbs.

Grey Hard Leather Cuirass with matching bracers, both studded with steel rivets, white Tunic warn underneath. Simple steel Pauldrons (shoulder guards) with matching steel and leather elbow guards. Covering all is a long grey cloak depicting a silver sword with green leaves swirling around it on the back.

A master of the sword, he has never lost a battle.
Excellent tracking skills, though not as good as that of a ranger, he lives the life of a wandering worrior.
Keen eyesight as well as a natural sense of direction make him a great scout/leader.

Familiar: None

Uhh...Tassanaburrfoot, not meaning to be and ass, but how does your character carry TWO long-swords, key word long, SIX daggers, although not impossible, still hard to manage, AS WELL AS a bow and a whole lotta arrows????

It just seems like a lot for a ranger, whos main skill is to be stealthy and a scout...

Make sure you add a short personality and history description TsuBaSa.

Character description for Thèrves

Name: Thèrves Mage Hand of Rhineter

Race: Human as far as everyone can tell

Class: Sorcerer

Alignment: Neutral Evil

Hair: dark brown, straight, reaches shoudlers, tied back

Eyes: Brown

Height: 5'11''

Weight: 150

Thèrves can cast spells of a decently high level but is mainly focused on machinery as of right now. He is focused on changing the stone of Syndar into a device he can use to gain more power. He is wise and cares little for the well being of others in general.

Dracsis- one of Thèrves' leaders. Sarcastic and acts like a wise ass, even towards Thèrves. Thèrves puts up with it only because he knows there is no one in Syndar that can match Dracsis skill with the blade.

I will come up with other baddies for you guys as we go on but for now this will do.

You can call me Tassana or Tass. Makes it a lot easier.

Sword on either hip, quiver strapped to her back with bow attached. Two daggars keep her hair up, one daggar is tucked between her breasts, one inside either boot, and one strapped carefully on her wrist.

Plus, she's an elf. Elves are known for their ability to conceal their weapons enough to be able to move without making a sound. Moreso then any human could.

But, no one knows where her daggars are. Thus, they are concealed and drawn out only when need be.

Also, I have a quick question: if Angel, the elf and my character, has been living near Syndar for years and often is found in the temple with her neice, then how is it that the townspeople and all wouldn't know her? Or at least recognize her?

06/08/2005 11:23 PM

There seems to be a small confusion...

Jax is a guard captain for the city guards which is a completely different branch than the temple guards of which Luni's character is a part of.

Ok, Im going to try to jump into this, but with me having to make a new character sheet, and then my computer not wanting to load any page that starts with rpgconsortium, Ive finally got to my grandmothers where hopefully Ill be able to catch up. If theres anything wrong let me know.

Name: Gravin Shoni

Race: Drow

Class: Thief

Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Age: 124, appears to be about 23 or so.

Hair: Flowing, shoulder length, parted evenly in middle. Silver in color.

Eyes: Red

Height: 5’ 11”

Build: Well-muscled, but extremely agile as well.

Weapons/Armor/Equipment: Leather armor on his thighs and torso is concealed by his black Elven cloth garments. Under the tightened section of the sleeve on his left arm is a concealed dagger, and within the wristband on his right arm are several lockpicks, concealed as well. Two wakizashis, shorter than a katana but longer than a dagger, one strapped hilt downward to the right on his back and the other on his left hip. Ten 'slim-jim' like throwing knives sheathed along the left side of his torso, one over another. On the left side of his back, out of the way though still in reach is a pouch which contains a silk rope, rolled up strips of black cloth, like his garments and pouch are made of, and some jewels he still has with him from his last job.

Abilities: Natural and Class Abilities, Jumping, Ventriloquism, Tightrope Walking, Tumbling, Disguise

Brief History: Most would find it odd for a Drow to be above ground, and even odder no doubt for it to be of the male gender, but this wasn’t Gravan’s first time here, and he had made sure that it would not be his last. His time spent underground in the cold Drow civilizations had been long gone since he was around thirty-seven, when he grew tired of the stereo-types thrown against his gender in the depths of the earth. He refused to be a servant, and knew that he was stronger than most of his kind, and refused to allow this oppression to keep him from living out his full potential. He realized that on the surface he was much more able than he was underground, despite the harsh sun that drove down upon him. Where underground his abilities at stealth had only somewhat surpassed his fellow Drow, now on the surface he was unmatched, as far as he could tell, and took to the art of thievery as if it were natural. He started out in guilds that others might not choose to start out in, but he wanted the best training he could get, and he excelled in his all of his training, focusing mostly however in silent killing of an adversary, and furthering his already unrivalled stealth arts. His true ‘training’ with a master ended when he was around eighty, wherein he thought that he had learned everything he could from anyone, and now must set out on his own. Petty theft never appealed to him, only he quality burglaries and the likes, though a little pick pocketing for the fun of it never escaped his interests. Of course killing can come with the job, but he strives to remain undetected, so as to spare blood and as well to better his skills. Now he hunts for the most rare of objects, the most illusive of chases, and the most heavily guarded of burglaries.

There are two key purposes of this thread. One purpose is so that the new members can get to know the sages of the RPGC. And to pretty much let you become comfortable with us enough that should you have any problems, you feel welcomed to come to us.

The other purpose of this thread is to evaluate each player and help everyone involved improve on your rp skills. This is not a way to embarrass anyone or make anyone feel smaller. And to keep from causing such embarrassment, I am emailing those already involved. These emails are through the RPGC and are completely confidential.

This is to help you. Not to harm you or cause you discomfort. Any objections or complaints you have, please feel free to contact me. If you don't like what I've said or how I've said, again, let me know.

06/12/2005 8:01 PM

Magician, some clarification must be needed... My character, Arlissah was the one carrying the child.. it is Tassana's char with the Wolf. Arlissah's "companion" or "familiar" is a Caracal, which is a wild cat, not a 'wolf' ;) please try to check your information before posting k?

also, one more thing, please double space after each paragraph to make them easier to read. :D

06/13/2005 6:35 PM

heheh, sorry about that. I have trouble keeping up who's who because there are long posts it's sometimes hard to keep up with the others.

I'll try to read more carefully and post more info specifitly.

06/14/2005 9:39 PM

Ok, I think for some reason there is some confusion... Gravin is in the same room as Arlissah, leaning against the wall with his arm crossed and hood up in the open, no longer in the shadows. I guess I should have been clearer, I thought I was but thats why Im not paid to think, but anyways, that might mean that there needs to be some changes made, and I hate to sound like I am in charge, but I just want to get this right and in the open, if you have a problem with anything Ive said or am fixing to say, PLEASE tell me...

Flandrake, Im no longer in the shadows, so Jax wouldnt need to tell me to come out of the shadows...

Lunitiari0, Im in the same room as Arlissah, so the guards are dealing with me right in front of you and Arlissah, or Kalia, if you are in the same room as Arlissah is in. Im guessing you are since you are talking to her...

Tass, Im thinkin that what I said to Lunitari0 applies to you too...

There may be others, but I think thats it...

I really hate to say this like I am in charge, and if it sounds like that its not meant to be, Im just trying to explain and help. I know Ive left countless facts abotu the room I am in, if I need to quote them I can, but Im not sure where the wires got crossed. I think that Kalia understands what Im saying, I HAVE NOT speaked to her, Im just taking that from her role-play posts, no quotes. Im not sure what needs to be done, If there just needs to be edits or what, but I cant really reply until we get this settled out... Thanks, and sorry to be so seemingly-authoritative.

06/14/2005 11:08 PM

07/08/2005 3:33 AM

i finnaly found a good one too, well one i'm interested in and have been excepted to it?!

07/08/2005 1:50 PM

Kawai, some adivce: don't double post, it clutters the borders and is annoying; use capitals when it's proper, it makes your post easier to read.

And as for the "theives" you were talking about they wouldn't go after Sam to see if he has money because they aren't theives. They are hired men of Thèrves and Rasius has orders to only attack people in search of the Syndarian Stone. However, your character could tip off the others so that they are ready for Rasius' men.

I'm guessing you have better than average hearing, I could post something for Sam to overhear that would make him hurry to town and warn Kalia's and co. characters.

07/08/2005 7:49 PM

yay, sam shall do what ever you say
*bows, then awaits commands*

07/11/2005 11:47 AM

Kawai, please read my advice again and actually listen to it this time:

Kawai, some adivce: don't double post, it clutters the borders and is annoying; use capitals when it's proper, it makes your post easier to read.

And the people were not at "the inn" they were in front of the temple.

whoops, sorry

07/13/2005 7:38 AM

Kawai said he'd be away for two weeks... he posted it in the actual rp section, which I deleted. I am stating it here, so that his message isn't missed.

07/15/2005 8:29 PM

I was wondering if I could join this thread, but I've never played DnD, so I don't know if my character would fit, here's his stats, but if something needs to be changed, I'll see to it:

Name: Ryari
Race: Human
Sex: Male
Class: Bard
Alignment: Chaotic Evil
Age: 21
Hair: Blonde
Eyes: Red
Height: 5' 11"
Build: Neither scrawny, nor too muscular, average.

Weapons: Magical Harp and a short sword.
Abilities: Enchanted songs and using his harp as a weapon.

Appearance: A young male with eyes that pierce the soul with seething fury. He wears metallic armor that is crimson in color. His helmet seems to be more for decoration than for protection, as it is designed with designs and patterns that seem to mimic the flow of music in the air, with a yellow jewel in the middle. His armor isn't bulky, but sleek and thin.

Personality: Easy to anger, but has a rather joyful view in life, which makes him more of a sadistic killer. He prefers to play with his enemies before killing them, or have them go through excruciating pain. Although he has a sword, his poor swordmanship makes it all but useless, mostly using it to parry attacks when in hand to hand battle.

Background: Always having been a youth with dark intentions, he was shunned from his town of birth. Some say it was because his step parents mistreated him, thinking he was worthless and that they were cursed to have him. Eventually he killed his own step parents with a dagger his step father kept in safe keeping. No one knew it was Ryari because he had said that he was out of town for the weekend, and the fact that anyone rarely even saw him to begin with, they couldn't proof him otherwise. But that was just the beginning of his rage, several other crimes which were successfully linked to him lead to his exile. While in the wilds, he kept having urges to go to the nearby mountain range. And he did, where he found the discarded armor with the harp and sword. Thinking of everything but the sword as useless, he tried to pick up the sword only to find the strings of the harp entangling his entire body. He had to either leave everything, or take everything. Grudgingly he took everything. Years passed and he learned the secrets of what he had found.

07/15/2005 10:40 PM

Welcome to the boards Alelo. The main group is primarly good guys and I don't think your character would fit there. But if you want, you can be working with the sorcercer Thèrves.

Some spots you could be at if you say yes:

1. At the headquarters of Thèrves. Thèrves has just started working on another machine to change the polarity (*sigh*) on the Syndarian Stone.

2. With Dracsis at the goblin tribe. Dracsis was there speaking with the goblin chieftin, that is all that has been revealed as of yet. Also, that the talks would soon be over.

3. With Rasius and his small group of men who are going to ambush the people from Syndar. Rasius and 12 others (I think that was the number) are up some ways from the main town awaiting the group that is going to seek the Stone of Syndar.

07/15/2005 11:04 PM

Hmm... if you're ok with it, he could Join Rasius' group, as a mercenary among the 12.

07/16/2005 11:03 AM

Hmm... if you're ok with it, he could Join Rasius' group, as a mercenary among the 12.

Fine with me. Just check out the last couple of posts I made where I mention Rasius or members of his group and you can jump in.

Also, is no one going to reply to Kawai? We need to keep this thread moving.

good point

07/23/2005 4:20 PM

Kawai you already posted that you saw people and walked towards them. You can't just change that unless you edit your original message. Just wait for someone to reply to your original post and delete this latest one which doesn't conect with your last one.

And you still haven't edited the fact that it was a temple and not an inn there was a group standing outside of.

07/26/2005 8:15 AM

How would Sam know that my character decided to hide? I probably didn't make it clear that what had happened in my post was after Sam had reached the village.

07/26/2005 9:02 AM

Kawai, this is the third time I'm saying this, USE CAPITALS! it will make your posts easier to read.

Alelo, I think Kawai was talking about Sly and Gruff since Sam said he could hear him talk and those were the only two Sam heard. Since your post was made after Sam had left, he doesn't know you went into hiding. But then, the whole group is off the main road and in the woods so they are all in hiding pretty much.

[Edited by Flandrake on Tuesday, July 26, 2005 9:07 AM]

07/26/2005 7:51 PM

Kawai, please read this and the above post.

sam sighed, they didn't seem to like him too much. " if its any posibility, may i join you all? i can hear much better than most of you and i'n very light. i also can skitter up trees to see where they are" sam suggested

Kawai, you have not given people time to reply to your post. You stated what their characters thought towards your character which is basically controlling them. You seem very eager because you post a lot but one must learn patience in this world. And another thing, USE CAPITALS! How many times do I need to tell you?

(Sorry about the double posting everyone but it is 'ooc')

07/29/2005 9:50 PM

I would like to apologize to the beginners who had first joined this thread. It was meant to be a good simple adventure to get people used to the RPGC and free form RPing. I hope at least some of you will remain here.

To the staff I would like express my anger and annoyance at the fact that we were unable to post replies and keep the thread moving. It's rather sad when the "best RPers" on these boards can't even compelete a "newbie adventure." Hopefully we can take this as a learning experiance.

*Nod* I also apologize... Perhaps we can try again. I honestly don't know what happened. For the most part I've been so busy with R/L, I'm usually dead tired when I get home, I'm lucky to even brouse the new posts let alone post myself. I've let other threads other than this one lag as well....

It was meant to be a good and easy adventure, but I guess I kinda let it flop... I hope you'll forgive me :(
