"Over two hundred years have passed since the final war of the ring, the victory of Sauron The Mighty over the armies of the West."

This is set in Middle-Earth, the world of the lord of the rings, one of my favorite fantasy worlds of all time. It takes place two hundred and twenty-seven years since the final war of the ring and the Lord of the Rings, with one twist. Frodo and Sam were captured by ringwraiths on the slopes of Mount Doom, before reaching Samnath Naur. Sauron defeated the armies of Gondor and Rohan.

Slowly, over the past centuries, he has driven back the other races, destroying Gondor and Rohan. His empire now reaches from Mordor to the ruins of the Gray Havens. The elves are nearly gone, dead, enslaved, or in hiding. Many humans joined him, as did some dwarves. The hobbits, once a good people, are nearly animals working in the Shire Mines.(sort of like gollum)

The only people still claiming freedom are the dwarves of the Lonely Mountain, who have sucessfully fought him off, and a few elves hidden deep within Mirkwood.
Forty-three years have passed since the black fleet set sail to the Undying Lands, intent on destroying them. However, Sauron's magicks would not reveal Aman, and even the elves no longer can sail to the Undying lands, which have truly disappeared from the world.

Middle-earth is a world of darkness.

Okay, this thread centers around the search for a way to destroy Sauron, or, at least free the world from him.
I'm going to play two characters, though one of them isn't coming in until later. Please post your character sheet here, and any questions you have.

Interesting indeed, AvA.

This would be after the reign of Elessar (who did not become king for long in this twist), taking us past 120 FE.

I'd like to try my hands on an elf, if you don't mind me joining in?

Yes, you're more then welcome!

King Elessar, the Last King reigned for 3 years, before he was killed in the final battle for Minas Tirith, after which Queen Arwen Evenstar led the people into exile in Rohan.
(Years since the final war of the ring are counted as DR(dark reign))

Soaring:

Gah, sorry about losing track in School For The Gifted, I'll hustle over there. And you're more then welcome as well:)

Tis a great thread.

If you don't mind AvA, I would like to join and play the role of a young female hobbit named Jenna Higgins whose fate is doomed to work in the mines near the Shire.

I've got a few things figured out and a few that I hope you can help me with.

I can imagine her being emotionally scarred from her experience in the mines, and perhaps her distrust of any tall humanoids since she might not have met any other than orcs or evil humans. She's overworked, so she might be really thin and her coarse hands and feet bear the signs of working in the mines. She's quick and good at climbing cliffs.

Should she look exactly like a Gollum? Perhaps her state of intelligence would be just like one than?

That sounds fine to me, basically how I had pictured the hobbits from the mines.

Hmmmm......well, that would be up to you. She certainly would share similarities with Gollum, but you can make her personality and intelligence level as you see fit.

Wokey AvA, got it.

She was raised to survive in a harsh environment like the mines, therefore her skills would include sneaking about and stealing food from the orcish guards when the opportunity arises.

She enjoys listening to 'old folks tales', stories told by the few surviving elder hobbits of a time when a beautiful shire existed.

Her appearance would be somewhat similiar to the Gollum except not as bad as the guy, as she lived in a community instead of total isolation. She's sane.

Avenging_Angel

though one thing, what of the Istari? Are they still present on Middle Earth?

I was hoping someone would ask that......
The Istari:
Obviously, Sauruman the white did not die, since Sauron his master won. He serves Sauron from the tower of Orthanc again, once it was rid of it's "ent problem".

Gandalf the grey(later the white)
Gandalf fought for the failing forces of light for as long as he could. He finally was killed by an ancient uruloki(fire-dragon) under Sauron's command, though he killed the dragon before dying of his wounds.

Radagast the brown
Fought long and hard against the shadow. His fate is as yet unknown, for while Sauruman claims he was killed, rumors say he took refuge with the few elves left in Mirkwood, and is part of the reason they are still free.

The Blue Wizards
For those who don't know or remember, the Blue Wizards were two brothers who went south to the realm of the Southrons. No one is sure of what became of them.
I am going to be playing one of the Blue Wizards, though he will come in later in the thread.

Sure! I was hoping I'd find somebody willing to play him....

Avenging_Angel

I realized that I never posted my character stats.....

Name: Shantegra (Shawn-tey-graw)
Race: Human/elf
Gender: Female
Age: 21
Hair: Long, black, curly
Skin: Pale, mostly from lack of light
Eyes: grey

Background:

Shantegra is from the mines of Khar-Darazoth, located near what was once Helm's Deep of Rohan. Human and elven slaves have long labored in the iron mines for so long that almost all the workers anymore are at least part elven. Shante managed to escape from the mines and hid in the ruins of the city above, before finally slipping out. She is headed for Fangorn forest, a place still avoided by orcs, even though the ents were long ago subdued.

I guess that we'll have the people meet up in or near Fangorn?

Avenging_Angel
12/18/2004 2:58 PM

Gah, triple-posting....
Here's a few new races that I've come up with.

Treants(Tree-unts)

Long ago, when Morgoth the black created trolls, he was attempting to mimic the power and might of the ents, but was unable to do so. When the ents were finally subdued, Sauruman attempted to refine the race of the trolls, with the captive ents as models. The resultant race were the Treants.

Treants are similar in size and shape to trolls, but with thick, wood-like hides. Large spikes jut out from their bodies like the branches and thorns of a tree. They have small eyes that resemble those of the ents, and are extremely difficult to kill. The main body of treants are in Isengard and Mordor, though the Treants of mordor are a different type, completely black with the mark of the red eyes on their backs.

Dark Elves

Even before the war of the ring, not all elves were completely devoted to the light. Some, called Grey Elves, had never seen the light of the Undying Lands, and some, like Eol of the Silmarillion, were against their brethren. When Sauron triumphed over Middle-Earth, a few of the grey-elves joined him, serving as his lieutenants in exchange for their freedom. Since then, their numbers have increased, as has their evil, and power.

Dark Elves, called Duredhel (literally, dark elves) or Goriquendi(gor- horror, dread) by their brethren, have ash-grey skin. Hair is usually black, and eyes are usually red or grey. Duredhel are cruel, twisted by the evil of Sauron, but are extremely intelligent, often wielding some type of magic. They are usually commanders and leaders.

Since Sauron's victory, evil races of old, thought to be dead, have re-appeared, the great spiders now serve him, as do vampires, were-wolves, and balrogs, races thought long vanished.

And some maps that are handy.....

Map of Gondor
Map of Rohan
Map of Mirkwood and the Lonely Mountain

The stats of the hobbit I'll be playing.

Name: Jenna Higgins
Race: Hobbit
Gender: Female
Age: Appears to be around late teens
Hair: Wavy blonde hair, unkempt, shoulder length
Skin: Pale
Eyes: Pale blue

Background:
Jenna Higgins has lived in the mines near the Shire ever since she was born. She lost both her parents early on in her life when they died from overwork. Though the harsh environments had robbed her of a peaceful childhood, it did taught her the strong will to survive. She has now successfully fled the mines and is heading towards Fangorn.

Caelin

Ok, never got around to this before now, but here goes:

Name: Anthatal
Race: Elf
Gender: male
Age: 1037
Hair: Long, dark brown
Skin: Tanned
Eyes: blue

Background:

Anthatal has lived his life, after the fall of the west, by impersonating to be a dark elf that he had slain in the aftermath of the war of the ring. After taking the dark elf's armor and weaponry, some seemed to be nearly as good as his own, he went amidst the conquering army and lived as one of them. Due to his intelligence and ability to impersonate others, which he excelled at as a youngling, he always prevented from being discovered. As the years went by, he managed to slip away into Fangorn, where he lived for the last two decennia. On occasion, stumbling upon a run-away from the mines, he managed to get information from the world outside Fangorn.

In the years he lived in the protection of Fangorn, he so far has killed every orc that wandered in there, thus keeping the tales about the forest alive. None of them were ever found and he gathered their armor and weapons, so that none of the escaped slaves went out of fangorn without a decent set of armor and a weapon, even if was too large or of orcish origin.

Through the time he wandered these woods, Anthatal lived off the land, which in turn has made him less pure then the elves that inhabited realm such as Lorien or even Mirkwood. There is something dark in his behaviour, a cold and grim outlook on life.

AvA this sounds really good... Well here is a character I was thinking about entering if its approved...

Eolain, Last of the Lords of the Riddermark.

Race: Human (Rohirrim)
Gender: male
Age: 29
Hair: Long and Auburn
Skin: Weathered
Eyes: Green

Background:
Eolain's heritage can be traced back to the Lords of the Riddermark, who fell during the Dark Reign of Sauron. It is rumoured that Eolain himself is the last in the lineage of Faramir of Gondor and Eowyn, niece of King Theodain. Though the Rohirrim people are a conquered folk, Eolain has always found himself set against the agents of the Dark One.

Trained for battle from a young age, Eolain became Captain of one of the last Rohirrim Warbands, attacking the Dark Servants with hit and run tactics and earning a reputation as a thorn in the side of those Dark Servants.

Recently however, the young Captain found his warband betrayed by one of its members, who sought both riches and favour from the Dark Lord and led Eolain's warband into an ambush from which Eolain was the only one to survive. Still wounded and hounded by his orc pursuers, Eolain had no choice but to brave the darkness of the Fangorn in a last ditch attempt to save himself from the orcs.

Name: Dayen
Race: Elf
Gender: Guy
Age: 638

Physical Description- He is about average height for most Elves. His eyes are hazel and his hair is auburn. His skin is not very tan but not pale.

History- He is a wood elf who fought in the eleven armies during the latter half of the war. At that time the Elves were fighting just to stop sauron. Unfortunately it didn’t help. Dayen was a ranger who was outside grey havens when the final retreat came. As such he was left behind.

He had herd rumors of elves in Mirkwood as wandered around Eriador. After hearing this he made his way that way, but in a very undeliberate way, he had no hurry he lived forever and now forever in an enemy land. The worst that could happen is he could die. He recently crossed the gap a Rohan, and made his way toward Fangorn Forest because he knew the orcs at least would avoid it.

Name: Elendur
Race: Dark Elf (yep- another elf)
Gender: Male
Age: Not known (even by himself), though he appears young. He may be centuries old.
Hair: dark
Skin: turquoise
Eyes: Grey

Background:
Elendur was born into the High Elves, cursed with an evil mind. He grew among the weak followers of justice; the last of his kind to foolishly pursue a dying cause. The young elf watched them bask in faith that their cause alone would save them, despite its constant failure. They met the foe. The Elves fought for their cause with surprising strength.
He watched them die, his home crushed by the growing tides of conquest. Elendur viewed these dark hordes in admiration, captivated by their power. He met with Sauron's Dark Elves, the evil influence now fully transforming him.
He trained hard, lands falling before him and his new Elven brothers. Soon he rose among them. They eagerly gave him Command of a Dark Elven army.
He leads one of the Elven armies against the resistance under Sauron, though resents the idea of a single Warlord above him. Elendur has his own agenda in mind, but follows for now.

Tell me if I've done anything not allowed here.

I'm very interested in RPing in this thread...

Name: Halath Son of Cyrian (Halath Ranger of the Dunedain)
Race: Human (Dunedain)
Sex: Male
Age: 52
Height: 6' 2''
Weight: 180
Eyes: Dark Brown
Hair: Dark Brown

Class: Ranger
Weapons: Longsword, Bow, various daggers and knives

After the victory of Sauron in the north I would think the Dunedain would either retreat into Mirkwood or the Grey Havens. These would be messangers or scouts for the last resistance.

Halath has been trained since he was very young having been born in the dark reign era. So obviously, he is a skilled warrior. And having to travel around the dangerous world his lore and knowledge of other races is good.

Halath is going to Orthanc to find out what he can about Sarumon and hopefully speak with the Riders of Rohirrim (although he will find this not to be possible).

I am also interested in playing a dwarven leader from the Lonley Mountain if we are need of one.

Awesome.

Radagast the brown:

One of the more minor of the wizards, only came into the books briefly. Lived near Mirkwood, had a strong connection with animals and nature. You can probably tailor his character as you see fit, he wasn't really in the books.

Oh, well that doesn't matter. I think I found a loop-whole around that. Although Radagast was corrupted by nature, he also came to Middle-Earth with Gandalf (atleast that is what they think at the site I visited for information on Radagast). So what I think I will do is say about how he grieves for losing a friend (Gandalf). And that will spark his return to what he should have done. Problem solved, I think.

Toromir has been trained in the elven arts of war, which can be seen through his proficiency with the longbow and two weapon fighting. He now wishes to leave Mirkwood in hopes that he too will be able to help anyone that does not claim Sauron as their ruler.

Hey Soaring, welcome back. I was just wondering if you were going to control Gwaihir and the other eagles. Just want to make sure no one is waiting for someone else to do something.

Have I killed the battle for Mirkwood here? If so, I'll change my post and we can get to it again. I'm unbelievably sorry :P

AvA, if you want momentum to pick up on your side of the RP, I can make a second character. Should I go ahead and post the details?

Meh. Not killed it, I think Flan may be busy, and Soaring's in and out....

*nod* It's fine by me. I was actually thinking of transporting Alatar to Mirkwood to sort of tie the two arcs together.

Very good. So, GM, do you think Gloin would have any descendants left? Say, a great nephew of Gimli's who's retreated to a life in the woods?

Hm, maybe. Though a life in the woods would be a tad of a stretch for a dwarf.....unless he's mayhap on some sort of journey from the Lonely Mountain?

And he/she need not be of Gloin's line either...theoretically, the other dwarf companions may have had descendants as well:)

The working concept right now, is that he gets stuck in the woods while fleeing the Dark conquest and takes to a cave, hunting for food and slaying the predators within. Maybe he was with a band of Dwarves and Men, if you don't mind me blatantly putting words in your mouth. Of course, he could be a descendant of Thorin Oakenshield. Thorin III had a close alliance with Gondor and Arnor, which could link him with the aforementioned band- if you like that idea. I want someone who has a role in the original storyline :P

Hmm, that could work, though I'd prefer the "band of men and dwarves" to be fairly small.

I was thinking a group of five, ten or so.

Name: Sudri the Young
Race: Dwarf
Gender: Male
Age: 73
Hair: Long, dark
Skin: Tanned
Eyes: Green

Background:

Sudri the Young is the last of the Dwarven royal line. He was subject to a cave-dwelling hermit's life after a small band of Men and Dwarves, formed to escape Sauron's victorious forces, were ambushed and killed by a Dark army who became aware of their intentions. Escaping the attack, Sudri soon became lost in Fangorn. Years passed, he learned to face the forest's lurking dangers and found a home within. The rough existence made him stronger, while Sauron was led to believe he was dead, the Dwarves thereby removed as an enemy.
Though nobody knew of his survival, Sudri lived pessimistically, thinking Middle Earth had been plunged into a dark rule. He became used to the simplicity of hermit life, but grew bitter and resentful toward others. He learned to forge weapons from wood, built tools to maintain his steel axe and knives; Sudri became a great hunter, warrior and swordsmith. Though he often dreamt of his old home, a shred of hope within him that the war wasn't lost refusing to surrender.

Eh..five or ten? It's not really good to have one person controlling so many character, tends to make the RP unbalanced....maybe more like two or three?

Caelin's character had been residing in Fangorn for years.

Eh, sorry guys for disappearing again. I have finals next week so my teachers have been packing everything in that we haven't done yet. So I have been really busy as of late. Though, after finals are over (and school) I will be able to get back on regularly. So sorry for the inconvenience. Also, could someone take over my characters for me? I need to keep my mind on studying and not worry about the threads I'm in.

*smacks Soaring with the epileptic monkey*
Jeez, don't worry so much. You finish finals, that's more important then the thread. I'll take over the characters for you until you're back.

I wasn't really planning to control them all- since they're all dead :P The character avoids all contact, unless he knows it's threatening him, so he assumes the only people to walk through there are dark soldiers. I was also planning to give him a cave which he'd hidden from view. Actually, I was planning to reveal a lot more about him in the RP than in the profile, so anything will be answered there if you ask him :)

blood_lace, this thread is dead from people leaving/not posting and lack of interest.

Also, your character's history is bad. I'm sick of this whole "not much is known about them" syndrome newbies are putting out. Even if your character and other characters don't know what happened to them in the past, you can still know out of character. Also, all elves are pretty much good. Avenging_Angel brought in the use of dark elves much like dark numenor. These elves are evil and since they chose to serve him in the first place they wouldn't "see throught his evil ways."

(As an RP Sage it's my place to give out such advice.)

If you want to complain about how mean everyone is instead of taking advice go right ahead. But I suggest you attempt to learn from your mistakes instead of getting mad when they're pointed out.
