How ringworld got into roleplaying:
I blame a oftentimes overlooked program called Ultima Online. It is the root of all evil and should be stopped. A friend of mine introduced me to the Star Trek version of RPGs with her little AOL group back in the day. Was interested and played off and on. My favorite character was Harcourt Fenton "Harry" Mudd, villian, conman, and friend to the wealthy and well-to-do and of course fictional thief to the popular series in reruns. My role? I was a Senator. Senator Harry Mudd from the Android Planet.

Some helpful hints for new players getting into RPGs:
Play something you enjoy. Get to know your character. Get to know about what your character can and cannot do then put your spin on it. The fun is creating/enhancing what you already know.
