The process of recovering from stoke is multifaceted. One difficulty with which many stroke patients have to deal is body balancing. It takes determination and taking the right measure for a stroke patient to retrieve his or her body balance. However, stoke patients may be subjected to a number of activities in order to improve their balance and proprioception.

Professionals have proven that doing exercises in a pool is a great way to put together strength and balance after a stroke incident. This mode of exercise is a good starting point for stroke patients due to the weightlessness of human in water, which makes stretching every part of the body quite easy. However, the patient needs the help of a professional to guide him or her on how to go about the exercise.

According to professionals sitting in a chair is another form of exercise that could help stroke patients to regain their balance. The patient should try to exercise his or her muscle while sitting. This could be done by leaning toward one side the chair for few seconds and then to the other side for the same duration. The patient should also try using his or her hands to pick up objects from the floor.

Stroke patients will also find a standing exercise helpful to regain balance. This may be quite difficult for many patients. Hence, the victim needs some sort of support. The support could be a rail. Once the patient has gained some balance, he or she should try some functional tasks such as picking up objects from the floor.

You need to take the exercise a bit higher by trying to stand on only one foot. This will be definitely more challenging. All you need is some focus and determination. You may as well start with a support until you are able to maintain some balance. You shall need to close your eyes so that your balance is directly from your limbs and not aided by your sight.

You may take the standing exercise a step higher by standing on a towel. In the beginning, your stability will decrease. However, be sure that the stability will return if you do not lose focus. As soon as you gain some stability, you may try some of the activities that were mentioned above such as picking objects from the floor.

One leg squat is another advanced balance exercise that would certainly help stroke victims as proven by professionals. In this, you need to pick up one leg and suspend it in air while the other leg bears your weight. Then you should try squatting in the same position. While doing this exercise, try alternating the position of the raised leg by positioning it in front, backwards and sideways.

In order to avoid complications, all the exercises should be scheduled appropriately. The timing is also very important. On starting, engage in each of the activities for few seconds and then take some rest. After sometime, you may increase the duration of the exercise. You should not rush the exercises if you really want to regain your balance and proprioception.
