Sudokus rock! Of course, I'm not so good with riddles so I'm no help there. Rhymes on the other hand, well, I tend to rhyme even when I don't mean to. Still, I need something to go off of to make a rhyme. But you should definitely use a sudoku as one of your puzzles. Maybe it's because I like math, but I'm addicted to them. Good luck!

Yes, it is technically a sword... but we are talking edo Japan. So that's the 100 exp. answer. 250 exp. would be katana, 500 exp. would be ancestral daisho.

While puzzles are fun, I like a bit of action myself, on both sides of the DM screen. After the puzzle was sorted out, I'd throw in a phantom ogre magi impervious to damage. To defeat him, and continue on with the quest, the samari or other honorable-type character must defeat it by sundering it's sword in a dual.

If no one possess a katana, then aswering the puzzle releases a katana with the sundering capability, or temporarily gives that enchantment to the samari's sword, if one is present.

Iron fisted tyrant
Impervious to pain
Sundered impliment of office
Brings closure to it's reign

Throw that shit in at some point prior so the character knows what it must do defeat the ogre magi or perhaps some creature with the oni subtype.
