| Flark | Despair is...? |
Member Since: April 2005 RK: 10 MP: 3,043 | Friday October 5, 2007 7:53 AM Not the big things, the major things in your life that bring you despair, but the little things. What are the little things making you miserable today, or at this moment? A most hated song on the radio? Terrible weather? A surprisingly foul tasting meal? An incredible, iridescent beetle being crushed under foot? The smell of exhaust fumes? Share the misery! At this moment I'm despairing for a family of wood mice whos burrow inside of my compost bin I've just destroyed. A day off work was going swell until my attempt to tidy up the garden lead me to empty out the compost bin. It had become rather solid so I was pounding into it with a gardening fork to loosen up the soil when a rather upset looking wood mouse jumped out and scorned at me before scuttling off. I'd pretty much raked out 70% of the contents by that time, so thought it was quite amazing that the poor thing hadn't been speared. Things got worse several minutes later though when I heard the distinct squeaking sound of it's young who were still trapped inside the bin. Not really sure what to do for the best I figured I should stop right there. Hopefully if the poor things haven't been speared already and don't suffocate, then maybe their mother will come back and tunnel her way in to find them...??? I know you said you wouldn't tolerate excuses... but I have a really good one! |

You tossing them out/spearing them this close to winter... Right now I'm despairing at the ineptitude of the class I have to teach. Setting up a tablwe in MS Access isn't really that difficult... Not everyone's glass can always be half full. In fact I've only got about a quarter of my glass of orange juice left right now. I know you said you wouldn't tolerate excuses... but I have a really good one! |

But let's find something small to whine about... Well, I've got the most worthless new roommate now. A guy that claimed he wanted to move out here with us so he could really start something for himself. Apparently his idea of starting a life is sitting on the couch 24/7, playing video games and eating our food. A real charmer, that guy. |

Member Since: February 2007 RK: 8 MP: 2,375 | Thursday October 18, 2007 4:47 PM Okay- despair is being Flarkless (Flarkless, hah! Awesome) for a week.Actually, at the moment mini-despair is trying to figure out which of the following is true- a. That my water smells more strongly of chlorine than usual b. That I only think it smells more strongly because of my tiddliness c. That it doesn't smell more strongly but my alcohol-enhanced state has given me preternatural senses that make it seem that my water smells more chloriney. All equally possible, I reckon. Despair is also knowing I have to get up in 7ish hours and teach loud teenagers all day...sigh "Just imagine the headlines 'Howard Moon, Colon, Explorer'. Got a ring to that don't it?" You never know when they'll crack. Eventually, they're gonna start gnawing on the nearest thing they can, whether it's a hood ornament or wristwatch, wrist still attached; a moment when that uniform they've made for themselves breaks down and they fall to pieces, right out of it. Give me the life-haters any day. They'll play you straight. -Oobie |

It's one of the old, stylish ones too - it's only problem is that it's lime green, a little battered, and being sold in a town where everyone wants a pickup truck. If I had a job, man... I know what I'd be saving up for. ![]() [[Edited by Avenging_Angel on Friday October 19, 2007 9:01 AM]] "Life is pain, highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something."
