The despair part is that it's back breaking work in the sun all Summer long, and I'm out of shape. His mother was restraining him by occasionally looking up from the shoes to mutter "settle down". I stuck my head around the corner, caught his eyes and gave him a significant look. I'm in talks to illustrate a children's book by an already-established author, and will shortly be getting paid for my first inked/colored comic book issue by my other client. Not a lot of money, admittedly, but it's -satisfying- money. Which led to an amusing conversation with my sister: Sister: Dude... how the fuck did you do that? Me: What? Sister: Actually achieve what you're going to school to do. I've been working on that for five years. Me: Cigarettes, caffeine, and hatred. Sister: ... so the way you do everything.
