Member Since: May 2000 RK: 12 MP: 5,756 | Saturday November 7, 2009 7:44 PM Considering how many of us read Penny Arcade here, it's probably not news to everyone that Child's Play 2009 is starting.I want everyone to know I will be donating again this year to Children's Hospital of Atlanta, and I want to strongly pressure you to think about doing the same, for your nearest hospital. And, yes, that word was correct. Pressure you. Chung and I have long held a policy of keeping our positions here separate from our opinions and beliefs. But, this is one of those things I can't just circumspect about. I don't want you to "just check this out". I want you all to seriously check your budget and find what you can to make a donation. No, I don't want you to not eat or pay your bills. But, there are all things we do that we don't have to do to help a kid feel better. Don't buy those shoes, or maybe pass up a concert, or fuck what ever. And I know there are a few of us from around the world that may be thinking "well that's a US thing". Don't. There are hospitals in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, and even EGYPT. Do what you can, if you can. Just click the picture below. Think about the fact that the kids receiving these gifts will most likely be in the hospital throughout the holidays while we will be spending it with loved ones. One of the books I got them is "Water Bugs & Dragonflies: Explaining Death to Young Children" :'( I have the utmost respect for anyone that could work in a childrens hospital. I think some cases would just be too sad for me. But I really hope they enjoy The Land Before Time as much as I did as a kid. Edit- Thanks for the link Silv. Keep in mind folks that a lot of these hospitals are even asking for stuff as inexpensive as an 8 pack of Crayolas. You don't have to get the Wii and DS's. There's something in every price range....and you can give as little a $1 if you have a PayPal account, and that's split up among ALL the hospitals. A lot of the kids in hospitals are spending their Christmases in the hospital rather than at home. Because of this, many of these families will not be able to afford a Christmas for their children. If one cannot afford to give the hospital any money, another good idea would be to donate old toys. It could be toys your own children outgrew, or toys you, yourself, have outgrown. Sometimes, it could be something as simple as a teddy bear to brighten up the day for a child going through Chemo, or worse. Children's books are another great idea for those unable to donate $25 for whatever reason. (Believe it or not, Hels, it can be quite difficult for some people. Especially in today's economy.)
