I agree. I'm not sure why whoever it was that was whining was whining about it. There are no recent threads about Raistlin and his fan club, or whatever you're not happy with. No need to just jump on some poor kid who happens to like Raistlin and didn't like him dying.
Can it be that there's some sort of error?
Hard to stop the surmounting terror
Is it really the end not some crazy dream?
Tears they flow but why am I crying?
After all I am not afraid of dying
Don't believe that there is never an end

Hm. Go through those anthology books then. (The Tales series etc.)

I really enjoyed Dragons of Krynn and Dragons at War. Those anthologies gave a lot of fresh, different takes on Dragonlance in general, and they have almost nothing to do with the Companions. So they shouldn't be depressing.
The Dragons was a wonderful book, also a nice take on early Krynn. The Black Wing featured Khisanth, a black dragon, and was one of the few DL books that took the perspective of a drago, a chromatic dragon at that.
I really enjoyed Stormblade and The Defenders of Magic trilogy, those both seemed decidedly un-Dragonlance, a lot of fun if you want something off the beaten path, though I found both to be very depressing. Too many character deaths, those books were like wholesale slaughters of the characters... meh.
Nothing is right, and nothing is wrong. It just depends on the perspective.

There's a fair amount of anti-Raistlin sentiment on these boards. Deal with it and move on.
Note that Knight of the Black Rose is a Ravenloft crossover-type novel. NOT a Dragonlance novel. The Soth Dragonlance novel is simply called 'Lord Soth.'
And Tanis, The Shadow Years is not post-War of the Lance. It's pre-War of the Lance. During the separation of the companions BEFORE meeting up in the Chronicles again.
Here are some other "history of Krynn" books you may enjoy that will not take you into the Godless era: (I'm only going off memory here)
The Elven Nations Trilogy
The Dwarven Nations Trilogy
The Ergoth Trilogy
Land of the Minotaurs
The Meetings Sextet
The Icewall Trilogy
The Dragons
The Kagonesti
Not to mention many of the Tales... books (short story compilations)
There are more.. but that should be enough to start you off.

These two trilogies are also back in print. They've been out of print for a while, years, but now you should have no trouble finding them.

Indeed. I've had Elven Nations for quite awhile - I got them used back when they weren't in print.
I still haven't gotten Dwarven Nations. I was never huge on Dwarves, so it never stuck on my list of priority books.

I also got two Elven nations novels and one Dwarven used. You can find them for as low as $1 in ratty condition, but I remember on ebay each trilogy would go for some $20-$30. Theses were once the rarest of the DL books (I think...) but not anymore.
I wonder if The Black Wing and Before the Mask will be reprinted...

According to the grapevine.. all out of print Dragonlance novels will eventually be reprinted. It's just a matter of waiting for the next batch of reprints to come out.
I got mine for 8 bucks, 12 bucks, and 10 bucks (the three Elven nations books, in that order), in very good condition. Worn, but nothing's wrong with 'em. Definitely not ratty.

Well, I suppose I should say that books I got are all intact, they just have really worn, warped spines, and some stains on the pages, but they aren't falling apart. All the pages are there intact.
And I guess I fell that reprinting all DL books is a shame... really hurts any collectibility the older books might have had, and it kinda takes out of the 'excitement' of snagging a rarer book. Bah.

Dragonlance is a not overly-well-known fantasy setting. Those books would never have had any real collector's value.
As for the 'excitement' of getting a rare book? Please! One of the most annoying things on the PLANET to an avid reader is desperately trying to find a book you really want to read. Then when you finally do find it - it's 40 dollars because it's rare.
I much prefer being able to just go to the local bookstore and pick it up. I don't like hunting and paying too much just to read a good book.
